In de Vrede is a cafe located near the Sint Sixtus Abbey, where visitors can enjoy the renowned Westvleteren beer on tap. The abbey itself is not open to the public, making this cafe one of the few places where you can savor this sacred brew for on-site consumption. Additionally, visitors have the option to pre-order cases of Westvleteren beer and pick them up at the abbey's drive-through.
We went on a Sunday at about 11:30 and had no issue getting a table, but I suggest getting there early because every table was full by about 1:00. The beer was incredible and we were able to get 2 packs to take with us (they had all 3 available). We had the abbey pate and abbey cheese; both were very good.

In de Verde is an absolute gem. Nestled in a peaceful monastery, it’s home to Westvleteren 12, which is considered the best beer in the world—and it absolutely lives up to the reputation. The setting is calm and beautiful, the beer is incredible, and the whole experience feels unique and special. If you're a beer lover or just looking for a one-of-a-kind spot in Belgium, this place is a must-visit.
Alex R — Google review
A very warm welcome. The food and beer are sublime. Well worth a visit and you can buy so.e extra in the shop to take home.

This hostelry is located within Sint-Sixtusabdij Westvleteren. We've visited afew times over many years, sometimes just for a beer or a light snack but the last couple of times for a proper lunch. The first was a very pleasant experience with a novice brother serving us who explained the menu and was completely brilliant; this time 18/09/2025 very less so. The servers, about 5 or 6 in all, were dithering around a screen showing reservations, orders etc., and none of them were serving. We had to wait quite some time for our order to be taken and found the servers to be preoccupied and not focused on the job in hand. They weren't engaging with their customers and weren't welcoming or particularly friendly. Shame. It was relief when our food and drinks arrived.
Mimi V — Google review
A lovely pub to enjoy great food and the exclusive Trappist Westvleteren beer. The cheese platter, bitterballen, pâté, and soup were all amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised by the coffee accompaniments — a cake, a cookie, and a chocolate. Overall, a really delightful experience!
Anastasiia B — Google review
Superb food, an impressive spacious restaurant environment. I felt very well looked after and it was a delight to drink the beer while enjoying a substantial meal. A range of abbey cheeses are available in the shop from Westmalle, Orval etc, jars of Mostard Wostyn. Suffice to say I filled my panniers prior to a cycle back to the Dunkirk ferry port.
Scott C — Google review
Lovely cafe / restaurant attached to the Abbey. They serve the various westvleteren beers along with some great food. We had a seafood dish with a lovely rich sauce, served with fries.
Phil M — Google review
Great place to enjoy a wonderful beer. The patio is nice with plenty of tables. The food all looked good - we had the beer board and it went well with our drinks. The gift shop inside has various items for sale along with beer to go in packs of 6. The current limit is three packs of 6 per person.

German Tower

4.5
(6)
Historical landmark
Nestled in the serene countryside just outside Poperinge, the German Tower stands as a poignant reminder of its historical significance. Erected in 1940 during World War II, this 13-meter-high observation tower was originally part of a military airfield used by German forces to monitor aircraft activity. After the airfield's closure in 1941, the tower fell into disuse and now resides quietly amidst fields, visible only from a distance.

If you're on the hunt for an exhilarating adventure, look no further than "GUESTHOUSE ESCAPE." This escape room experience is perfect for families and friends alike, offering a blend of original puzzles that are both engaging and challenging. With beautifully crafted rooms that tell the intriguing story of Omer, you'll find yourself immersed in a mysterious atmosphere where surprises await at every turn. The focus here is on clever problem-solving rather than high-tech gadgets, allowing you to truly appreciate the art of escaping.
Very great experience, be sure to do this !!!

(Translated by Google) We played Omer with three people who already have some experience with escape rooms. We were really impressed with how great this old-fashioned cream was. The decoration is very nicely done, the puzzles are ingenious, and the atmosphere completes it. Afterwards we had a very pleasant conversation with the manager, who is very friendly and jovial. In short, highly recommended! We will definitely go back to play the Secret of Omer. (Translated by Google) A good example of "less is more". Both rooms that tell Omer's story generally have fewer technological gadgets than other rooms I have already played, but this allowed the focus to be placed on the puzzles and the story. Beautifully maintained rooms, each with original puzzles that are not too easy or difficult. There is a mysterious atmosphere that makes you not know what to expect and so you encounter a new surprise again and again. We played the room with 5 which was perfect (we escaped both rooms with about 15 minutes left on the clock, we didn't get in each other's way and everyone contributed something). After the game we had a nice chat with the GameMasters/owners and exchanged some experiences. Thank you for the nice afternoon, we will definitely come back to play the XXL room! :) (Original) Een goed voorbeeld van "less is more". :)

Pegasus Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in the heart of Poperinge, West Flanders. The restaurant offers a monthly changing menu featuring fresh ingredients and a delightful atmosphere. With its French and Belgian cuisine, Pegasus provides a fantastic and heartwarming dining experience. Visitors can enjoy tasty dishes in a great atmosphere, with the option to relax in the comfy living room for an aperitif before their meal.
A very special dinner, like only few would be able to make. Tables are setup separate rooms and with a luxurious interior from distant a time. This is the place where atmosphere and food become one.

Reservations are highly recommended as this restaurant can get very busy especially on public holidays and weekends. The service was amazing. Highly skilled and friendly staff. We were very pleased to see young staff who were absolute professionals. The food was good, too. We chose the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The only minor issues for us were the waiting time between courses…and it was rather noisy as there was a table of 8-10 pax who were talking quite loud in such a small space. So perhaps ask for a quiet area, meaning not to be around big tables, when making the reservation.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, we look back on our visit to Hartig in Poperinge with mixed feelings. The food was tasty and refined, but because we had to wait more than an hour for our starter (!) we were so starved that everything might have tasted good at that moment. I had made a reservation for 7:30 PM and we didn't get our starter served until 8:40 PM. Then we had to wait until 9.45 pm for our main course. Really not okay. Top notch: the Namur wine from Chateau de Bioul. The temperature in the restaurant was also not pleasant. At first it was too hot and when the air conditioning was finally turned on, it became way too cold. Moreover, the acoustics left much to be desired, making it difficult for us to hear each other. Conclusion: very tasty food, had to wait far too long.

A real beauty in the city of Poperinge. Absolutely can recommend this cosy and -yes- romantic little hotel. A good hotel, what does it need? Clean rooms. A bit of luxury - like a spa bath in the room or a jacuzzi outside, maybe a small swimming pool? Then a little cosy outdoor bar, with self-service? A well maintained garden? The possibility to take a massage? Friendly staff, for sure. Good breakfast, absolutely. An eye for detail. Maybe a sense of living for a few days in a castle. And if you really want, a touch of decadency, like champagne for breakfast. If that defines a top hotel, well, then this one ticks all the marks. Brilliant. Thank you for hosting us!

We did not stay here but visited it as a museum visit and to pay our respects to the past. A fascinating place to visit. The garden is beautiful and the house is fascinating. The steps up to the chapel are a bit hairy but well worth carefully climbing. The visit includes a cup of very good coffee or tea.

This is a must visit when doing the great war somme region. Look out for the Happy Hoppers, run by volunteers who are happy to see you, make a killer cup of tea. The house has to be explored and will give you a good understanding of "The everyman club".

Talbot House is an incredible place, full of history and atmosphere, but what made our visit truly special was Simon’s tour. He has a real gift for bringing the past to life – not just with facts, but with moving stories, humour, and warmth. We felt transported back in time and could almost imagine the soldiers finding comfort here during such dark days. The house itself is beautifully preserved and so evocative, but Simon’s passion and knowledge made it all the more powerful. This was one of the most memorable and meaningful tours we’ve ever done. Absolutely recommend both Talbot House and Simon’s superb guiding – a must-visit

The Hopmuseum Poperinge is a highly enjoyable museum that provides a wealth of information about the history and cultivation of hops in the region. Visitors can explore various exhibits, including a fascinating display of beers on the ground floor. The museum offers a free 30-minute parking option, but it is recommended to allow more time to fully appreciate all it has to offer. The museum offers more thab you would expect. You get a full experience of the history of Poperinge, hop cultivation, harvest and all the people's life around it. At the ground stairs there is a floor with beers on display, impressive.

Everything you need to know about one of the more important ingredients of beer can be found here. It gives a nice overview of both the history, the production and processing of hop.
Bart E — Google review
The place is gorgeous. They could have put some efforts in explaining the technique of growing hop, biology...The audio level. of the guides is quite low. It s a lot of short explanation maybe a few longer one could be more comfortable to listen.
Geoffrey V — Google review
It's an okay museum. A bit too dark. I was expecting more. Very friendly and helpful receptionist. In the times of corona they let disrespectful guys with a cigarette in their mouth to use the toilette. We can't breath anyway due to mask we use. Outrageous!

Free 30 minutes parking outside but I recommend taking a bit longer. ,60€ got me about 90 minutes and only 6€ for the museum. It also includes English audio guide through the tour.

We stopped off here for a drink in our free time on our guided visit of sites in Poperinge, 7 thirsty lads we sat down in the outside area at the front of the premises and were quickly attended to by a very nice waitress, we all ordered drinks from a decent menu of beers and whilst drinking we chatted and considered staying here for lunch.. as we were finishing our fist drinks the bar person/ waitress who had been flitting in and out appeared to have disappeared we gave it a few minutes but no one else appeared and so we decided to go elsewhere for something to eat and better service. I went in and paid the bill the place wasn't overly busy.. the bar person was very polite, I did try to say we would have eaten had there been service but she just shrugged.
Ian E — Google review
We went for a meal here in 2015, I meant to write a review then but only thought about it when my wife and I were discussing the best restaurants we have been to over 35 years, this one is right up there as being memorable, we visited as my grandfather then aged 18 spent his first night in Poperinge in 1916 so the whole area felt special. The meal was absolutely fantastic and so were the staff, we initially thought that the steaks were a bit small, however the waiter came back with 2 more large steaks, the chef wanted to make sure that they were cooked to our liking. The whole atmosphere was memorable. A very big thank you and apologies for not writing this review sooner.
Paul C — Google review
The hotel is clean and I like its style. The stairs to the rooms are a little steep, which is a problem when you have to bring up the luggage. I cannot judge the service received during my staying : due to Covid I was the only guest, so basic breakfast and fix menu for dinner. Anyway the food was good.

Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is a significant site to visit, being the second-largest Commonwealth war cemetery in Belgium. The imposing entrance with huge iron gates leads to a relatively new visitor center that provides briefings before touring the cemetery. It's a humbling experience and offers context and history through an interesting visitors center, including a time bar with statistics. Additionally, there is a small area for graves of the Chinese labor force on the back left side.

I had a wonderful experience at Bistro Houblon. The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with a cozy and welcoming vibe that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The staff provided fantastic service — they were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the evening. And the food… simply excellent! Every dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a warm ambiance, outstanding service, and delicious food.

Super friendly owner, beautiful cafe and most of all delicious food. Personally I can't recommend the ribs enough there so delicious and quite cheap mixed with fries and salad it's honestly super good. Overall the atmosphere in the cafe is nice on most days.

Dinner at Bistro Houblon felt like walking into a friend’s house where everyone somehow already knows your name. There’s a quiet confidence in how they do things here: lights low enough to relax you, music that fills the gaps in conversation, and staff who move with that calm precision of people who actually care about what they’re doing. The meal unfolded at the perfect rhythm, no rush, no waiting too long, just that effortless timing you rarely see anymore. Each plate looked like it had been thought through, not just cooked. The flavors made sense together, nothing shouting for attention, everything balanced. By the end, it felt less like a restaurant visit and more like a small reminder of how good it feels when every detail simply works.

(Translated by Google) Despite the fact that we did not make a reservation and arrived in the middle of the evening service, we were still given a table. We enjoyed an extensive fondue dish with vegetables and fries as desired. There was also more than enough meat provided (+- 12 heads of cattle per person). People are very friendly. The interior is certainly unique with the extractor hoods (for BBQ) in the middle of the establishment above the tables. The menu is not very extensive, but is full of less obvious dishes (BBQ, grill plate, fondue,...). It is absolutely no ordinary restaurant, but a unique concept. But there are also some downsides: - There is NO bicycle shed. - Parking spaces are very limited. - Some dishes (e.g. BBQ) must be reserved in advance. - Most dishes are for 2 or 4 people. So you always have to eat the same thing as a couple... And as a couple you can't choose some dishes. If there are 3 of you, you all have to eat the same thing... There are a few dishes for 1 person, but they are less extensive and less luxurious than the other dishes. Men is er erg vriendelijk.

Brouwerij St. Bernardus is one of the legendary names in Belgian beer and is located in West Flanders, amidst the hop-fields. Visitors have praised its rooftop bar terrace for offering a modern and spacious setting with a great beer menu, along with friendly and accommodating staff. The brewery tour provides an interesting insight into the production process, complete with beer tastings and a nice present package. The Kazemat beer Wipers Times 14 has been highlighted as a personal favorite by some visitors.
Great brewery tour with loads of interesting and insightful information. We appreciated the humor and liked mash ton's story. Definitely check in at the shop before scanning your online barcode. It would be nice if an in person tour was possible. The bar is well worth checking out and sampling the brews. Look to see if the Gaasthaus has any availability. Note the restaurant is only open certain days...

Fantastic tour and great to hear and see the history of St. Bernardus and how this is related to West-vleteren. Modern brewerey and on working days you can see the botteling process from above!

Absolutely wonderful visit. We stayed for three hours on the rooftop terrace and ate very well [drank even better!!] on Wednesday 24 June but as we missed the shop opening hours [it closed whilst we were blissfully unaware a few meters upstairs] we returned today to raid the shop!! An absolute asset to the area and such a stunning locality it is too!

The tour here is excellent value for money. You admission is for the tour with an electronic tour guide, two tokens to sample the beers on offer and a 5 euro discount voucher in the shop. The tour and story is fascinating and very interesting and well executed. You get to see the bottling flier from a gallery, which good to see. The restaurant is very nice with a huge space of glass with a view off the countryside and the hops growing in the fields below. The menu is varied, snacks or full hot meals. It was very busy so service maybe slow as l counted only 4 waiting staff in the floor. It was busy. A fabulous place to visit and to eat. My only complaint is that the waiting staff could smile a little… Getting fed up with visiting great places with miserable staff. SMILE. We are spending money and keeping you in a job!!

Really nice brewery and tour! The tour was great for the history of the brewery, but they focus less on how the beer is made compared to other breweries.. Incredibly cheap for what you get though.. 2 free beers at the end, and a beer package of 4 beers and a glass to take home! Definitely worth a visit if you love their beer!

Best meal we’ve had in Belgium. Excellent quality food. Owner/chef is nice and chatted for awhile even though I speak no Dutch. Vol au Vent and slow cooked pork belly were top notch. Even the house red wine was great once my wife decided she’d had enough beer for the day. I travel a lot and this is a nice find.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful inn on the edge of the Helleketelbos. From the terrace we had a beautiful view over the Heuvelland. Hostess Rosalien pampered us, and Chef Peter can cook! The shrimp croquettes score high in our Top 10 in Belgium. (which we have been keeping track of since 2011...) The pork cheeks were amazingly tender and full of flavour, and served with a sauce to die for! The fresh vegetables provided a nice contrast. It's also nice that you can just order a simple scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream here for dessert, genius. We had a delicious meal here in April 2024. The renowned restaurant 't Hommelhof in Belgium, endorsed by the country's King, is highly regarded for multiple reasons. Firstly, customers are warmly received like beloved relatives upon arrival. Secondly, the chef Stefaan showcases his culinary brilliance by concocting unique dishes with a distinct emphasis on beer as an ingredient. Visitors to Watou can combine their trip with a visit to this extraordinary establishment which specializes in beer-infused cuisine.
A little gem every beer and food lover should visit. Everything is cooked with beer, there's a house beer too. The seasonal "Brewers lunch" was a perfection, service was top notch, ambiance is amazing. Enjoyed immensely.

Great place! the food was on its own level, and it's reasonably priced (approx 30 eur a main course). The service is also excellent, but their English command was limited. We had a fantastic time :)

This is a really hard restaurant for me to rate. If it was in Denmark, it would definitely be 4 starts given the value for money. However, being in Belgium changes things a bit. The food was mostly good (except for the first course which was terrible) and the service was top notch. The environment would have been perfect if not for some of the other costumers that kept blatantly starring at my table sometimes. Maybe they were not used to foreigners and specially the ones that do not dress up super formally for a 75 euro dinner. I am probably not going back, but you should. The food is definitely not bad and you might have a different impression than I did.

For years now we visit Watou for the beautiful art and poetry festival and have dinner at restaurant Hommelhof. This is a beer restaurant. Almost everything is cooked and prepaired with Belgium beer. The presentation of the food is nice and it taste great. We had half a lobster, lamb and beeramisu, indeed tiramisu with beer. The bitters in this dish really added some extra flavour that cuts through the sweet. Again a fine dining experiance.

Wonderful cosy restaurant in Watou. Wait staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is amazing and the beer list extensive. Not the cheapest place but you get great value for your money anyway. We had an excellent amuse bouche and charcuterie gratis before entrees. Portions are generous, and beer is used in a lot of the dishes. Show up early or make a booking, recommended to anyone in the area.
