The Forbidden Corner, located in Middleham, is a unique family attraction filled with statues and peculiar buildings. Spanning 4 acres, it offers an enthralling experience with labyrinths, mysterious follies, underground lairs, revolving floors, pop-up fountains and hidden surprises. Visitors must navigate through the garden while avoiding tricks and making decisions. The attraction features elusive brass circles that reveal hidden markings to guide visitors on their mission.
We had a lovely afternoon wondering around the attractions and getting totally lost at the Forbidden corner. There's lots of weird and wonderful things to do and see. You'll wonder around not knowing where you are or how you ended up where you are only to end up where you were earlier!
Very quirky and wacky but wonderfully fun!
The coffee was great quality and the play area was a lot of fun for the kids.
Priced at the higher end, however it's a very unique attraction so value for money was decent.

This is a really fantastic place. Our visit was thoroughly enjoyed by both adults, our 9 year old and our 15 year old. The app is brilliant for solving the quest and although it was busy, the site was not crowded. No queues anywhere. A burst pipe meant that the water was off for a lot of our visit but the staff managed this brilliantly and it did not spoil our experience at all. The gift shop has a wide variety of items and is one of the best I've seen. Would definitely recommend to families of all ages.
Brilliant day out, well worth the money. Full of wonder and mystery, even for grown-ups - and the attention to detail is amazing. The staff are really friendly as well as incredibly helpful. Food is amazing at the cafe attached to the gift shop, with a very good gluten free range as well. And although some of the site is understandably not wheelchair-accessible, it is generally very good for people with limited mobility (however the car park could use a few more disabled bays - despite having a blue badge we had to park in the overflow car park which was quite a walk from the entrance). Overall, though, I rate the Forbidden Corner very highly and would recommend to all ages and tastes. We'll definitely be returning!
Brilliant place to visit. Full of surprises, quirky, funny, spooky, we had a great time. We’ve been visiting since it was a little bit smaller, but now a major tourist attraction. Well worth a visit. Try to go when it’s a little quieter, possibly during the week. It was really busy when we went on a Sunday, but all well mannered. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful location too in the heart of the Yorkshire dales.
What a fantastic day out for the family! We took our 9 year old son here on the first Sunday of October half-term. We all loved it. There were also much younger and much older children there who were having a great time too. We're looking forward to returning next year.
Absolutely incredible installations. Highly recommend this unique and impressive mix of sensory garden, haunted mausoleum and interactive srt installation. Excellent value for money.
I don't want to spoil this place, so just go,take the kids, and experience it for yourself. There are some slightly creepy moments that some sensitive kids (and maybe even adults!) Won't like, but we managed fine with a 6 year old. Great place, very different to other attractions, really unique and original.
Been meaning to visit for years and finally got there last week with our granddaughter. Fantastic day out at this quirky and unusual venue. Surprise and delight at every turn! The café and gift shop were very reasonably priced too, which was nice to see, given the rip off prices at many places!

The Bolton Arms is a charming village pub located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, offering attractive bedrooms including single, doubles, family rooms and four-posters. Each room features private bathrooms, remote control color televisions, tea/coffee making facilities and direct dial telephones. The delightful private South facing beer garden provides a perfect spot for breakfast on summer mornings and 'al fresco' dining on floodlit evenings.
We were in the area and in need for a bite to eat. We came across The Bolton Arms as it looked nice from the outside and was convenient to get to as it’s right in the middle of Leyburn. We parked in the Long Stay car park, which is only a few min walk from the centre.
We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and told we were able to sit wherever we like, and were handed some food menus.
There was a good selection on the menu. And the food came out quickly. It was hot, fresh and tasty (they do an amazing pizza!)
The staff were super helpful and friendly and gave us suggestions on what to do around the local area.
I cannot comment on the rooms, however the pub area was lovely. I would highly recommend The Bolton Arms.

We had a great meal at The Bolton Arms—the food was absolutely delicious and well worth the visit. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home.
The only downside was how quickly the pub got busy and loud, which made it a little harder to enjoy a relaxed meal. That said, if you don’t mind a lively atmosphere, it’s a great spot for tasty food and good service!
Nice, spacious seating areas, both indoors and out. Traditional theming looking a little tired in places. Staff are fine & friendly. Dogs are welcome, enjoyed sitting outside in the beer garden. Nice selection of drinks on offer. Food is reasonably priced and all dishes we tried were nice. Enjoyed our afternoon in Layburn.

Got the small parmo it was huge glad I did not go for the large. But very nice.
Went about 4pm quiet and at 4.30/5 thats when lots of guys came in and a bit loud for us but we was finishing the meal and going anyway.
Awesome pub. I went with family. Food was brilliant. No shady portions here. Staff were really nice and the music was rockin. A great biker venue if I was on my bike (we intend going back on the bike). Plenty of parking and even better if you can find a spot outside the front door.

We called in for lunch as some of reviews and pictures posted sound and look absolutely delicious , but sadly there was a wake taking place and the kitchen was closed but we will definitely return and enjoy the food on our next visit.
So , the lady behind the bar was friendly , our Guinness poured well and price ok.
I'm sure it'll be five 🌟 across the piece next time.
Food completely disgusting. The pie was inedible pastry was raw. Chicken Parmo was shocking also. The only thing we both ate was the chips. We waited over a hour and was about to leave when are food came. We heard multiple other table complain about there wait. The pub in general needed a good clean. Seriously would not recommend to eat in.

I had the pleasure of having my wedding day here, it was an instant yes as soon as we saw it. The wedding event planners esp Chloe and Jessica who were AMAZING. All the way leading to the wedding and the wedding day itself, my wedding was so so organised and everything went to time. The venue is so spacious, in a beautiful area and our guests adored this. I couldn’t fault anything, it was nice to be relaxed, they made sure I had everything and for my family too. Thank you again, a beautiful venue indeed! Xxx

We came for lunch on recommendation from folks we met at the nearby Constable Burton gardens. The cafe was bright and airy, and the staff were welcoming! We got served pretty quickly and then paid up front. No sooner had I put my phone away, the drinks came immediately! Then the sandwiches came a short time after. The prices were very reasonable and really impressed with the cafe itself. We definitely know where to come for lunch the next time we are near Leyburn!
We had breakfast at the cafe which was delicious. A wide variety of choices very reasonably priced. The service was quick, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Worth a visit to the shop there too.

Harmby Waterfall is a stunning natural attraction located just a 5-minute drive from Haven House. Visitors can easily access the waterfall from the main road via a sloping footpath, with parking available across the road. The area surrounding the waterfall is described as beautiful and not too crowded, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful walk. However, visitors are advised to be mindful of muddy and slippery paths, especially after recent rainfall.
Attractive waterfall situated in a small wooded area just a minute or two from a residential street. It's quite a surprise when the waterfall comes into view after taking the short walk from the village. Well worth a quick stop if you're in the Leyburn area, easy to reach and a good place for photo opportunities.

Beautiful little waterfall, its at most a 3 minute walk from the road side (which is where parking is) .. there isn't much to it walk wise, but none the less it was a pretty little adventure for the dog.
Very cool down there on a burning hot Bank Holiday weekend. It’s a shame there’s no access to more of the (smaller) falls downstream. It’s a very steep gorge so the water drops away from you. Not a sign of the river upstream that I could see, a maker shame.
Well worth a little walk down the hill to the path (signposted) by the side of a house..

Our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. We had a lovely time at the saddle room and restaurants. I will rate their services 5/5. Check in was smooth. We were shown to our room. There is dedicated free parking, the rooms where bright, neat and clean, you get everything you can ever need in a hotel room up to shower caps :D. The shower water pressure was amazing. What more can i say? Food was amazing. Make sure to book for dinner, so you don't miss out on the sweet delicacies. The accommodation is perfect for a one or two night stay, if you are visiting the Yorkshire Dales, its close to sites you can easily dribe the to. There are trails and beautiful walks you can go on while lodging here as well. If i can go on i would. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Keep taking care of the place. Cheers

Delicious food. The place is quite unique, especially the decor. Service not the best, we only had one drinks menu between 6 that was given a while after the food menu. Staff didn’t tend to listen to what we said or pay much attention to the table. Overall would recommend as the food was very nice with lots of choice on the menu, we loved the map of the local produce they use.

The room we stayed in was stunning, well looked after and decorated. Was incredibly quiet and peaceful in the evening. Breakfast was also included which was top quality!
There is a bar/restaurant on site too (which is where you have breakfast) which is just as stunning and well presented as the rest of the venue. We ate here for dinner in the evening, price point is great for the high quality of food on offer. Again staff were lovely.
All in all of you're looking for a quality country retreat you can't go wrong with this place, highly recommended!
Lovely restaurant with lovely staff. We visited after spending an afternoon at the Forbidden Corner next door. The restaurant is a converted stable block and looks very classy. The food was amazing. We went for T-bone pork, which was a good size, moist, and tasty. It came with a crispy piece of crackling. The waitresses looked after us, making sure we had everything we needed. Service was quick. The horsey theme was great. Toilets were clean. It was a great meal in a very nice setting.
Stayed here for 1 night to visit the forbidden corner. Lovely place,had the twin room. Ate in the restaurant that evening, beautiful location and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone.. fabulous

Had a very enjoyable dinner here. Food was without flaw and it came across that there is pride in work in that kitchen. Staff friendly, only comment was getting Guinness delivered instead of a Guinness zero to our designated driver, which thankfully we checked. The place is very well thought out, not too crammed and has a nice decor.
Would definitely recommend and would go back if we’re travelling that way. We didn’t go to the forbidden corner which looks worth coming back up for.

Stunning meal and right from the beginning we got welcoming vibes. I rang on Friday afternoon on the off chance and were made to feel so welcome by the lady I assume is the owner. During our meal she was so attentive and genuinely caring. The food was absolutely sublime we had the Lamb and Beef cheek. It was so tender and delicious. We would certainly return if lucky to be in the area again… Sticky toffee pudding alone deserves some sort of prize. Thank you

The members of staff were very friendly, we had a lovely chat with one of the ladies about food recommendations and local activities.
We ordered:
Cheese soufflé - absolutely stunning
Fillet steak- beautifully cooked to our liking, seasoned well and accompanied by delicious chips and salad. I changed my chips for dauphinois.
Creme brûlée- absolutely gorgeous, lovely vanilla custard with the perfect caramelised top served with a homemade ginger biscuit.

We got there too early and they happily opened up for us and we got drinks straight away. The dining room is lovely and the staff were great, giving enough attention and a friendly atmosphere. Bolton Castle, completed in 1399, is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the country. Nestled in the heart of Wensleydale, it offers stunning views over the Yorkshire Dales. Originally built as a luxurious home, it still retains its outstanding condition with numerous rooms and features to explore, providing insight into its turbulent past spanning over 600 years.
We had a fantastic time at Bolton Castle! The weather was sunny and perfect for a picnic on the lawn. Alice was wonderful, showing us the beautiful birds at the falconry and demonstrating the archery in the courtyard. We also loved our tour of the castle, especially seeing the room where Mary Queen of Scots stayed, and we had fun feeding the wild boars and getting lost in the maze. A perfect day out!

£48 to go in for a family of 4. £5 to park so we parked in the village for free. The people doing the show and talks were really great (archery/ owls / Mary queen of Scot’s). Kids LOVED the maze. The gardens are really well kept. We bought some herbs. Great day out. The owl aviaries seemed a bit bland and could have done with some more enrichment but owls seemed happy and in good health. Really well kept castle. Would recommend. Also great views from the top.
We stopped by this castle in the middle of a long hike and were delighted to find that the gardens, cafe, and some of the interior are free to access for those passing by!
There is a P&D car park with free outdoor toilets and an adorable herd of wild boar. They are very friendly to visitors and so cute.
🦮✅These areas are also dog friendly, although the main ticketed interior museum is not dog friendly. If you have a dog, there is a "dog friendly" area of the cafe just for you. The staff were very friendly and brought us water and treats too!
☕️ The cafe offers oat milk and has a wide selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free cakes and drinks. Everything is clearly labelled and gluten free food is separated.
We had a great time, our second visit, last here in 2020. It was windy today so the owl display was taken indoors but still excellent. Some great views from the castle and nice grounds to walk round. If you want to venture further there are a couple of public footpaths starting from the castle grounds. Enjoyed seeing the wild boars.
A fabulous castle with gardens, shop and cafe, good but not free parking.
Cafe had a good selection of sandwiches, quiche, pie and delicious cakes, hot and cold drinks. Had a bird of prey display too.
What a great day out! The castle is extraordinary and you get some awesome views. The gardens are gorgeous with a maze, vinery, herb and dye gardens.
We went to the cafe too which had limited choices but it was fine and inside the castle which added to it's charm.
A stunning piece of history. Beautiful gardens and a well-maintained castle, including its ruined parts, make for a brilliant experience. The staff were also extremely knowledgeable and happy to take time out their day for a chat about the castle and its history.
Majestic and beautiful castle. Events from medieval period with volunteers dressed up as medieval knights, Lords and maids and showcasing activities and sword fights. The gardens are very well maintained and beautiful. Falconry events were being hosted. Lovely day out. Highly recommended. Please do buy wristbands to see castle and Gardens as all money go towards preserving the castle as it is now.

Wensley Waterfall is a charming and secluded natural wonder tucked away from the main road. Accessible via a brief stroll from the nearby pub parking lot, it can be found along a pathway adjacent to the historic White Rose Candles mill. This delightful waterfall offers an enjoyable sightseeing opportunity while traversing the Leyburn Shawl to Wensley loop. Contrary to one reviewer's claims, there are no trespassing concerns here, as evidenced by photographic evidence.
Ivd wanted to photograph this particular Waterfall for over 12 months now, this Waterfall is beautiful and not in the location I’d half expected, packed the car and walking 50 mts

We were calling by to go to "Forbidden Corner" and we had to call by and check out the waterfall.
Nice clean area, hidden down side of the "White Rose Candle". It's very hidden, you wouldn't even known this little gem was there.
Lovely waterfalls off a path by White Rose Candle Shop on A684 by Wensley Bridge. Parking available by the Three Horse Shoes pub then a short walk to the falls.
Came upon this on a walk. Quiet little spot boasting a lovely waterfall. Plenty of water coming down even though there hasn't been rain for a while. Narrow, tricky path to get to it if unsteady on your feet. BTW, it's free, no booking or ticket required.
It's free to visit (Yorkshire) therefore not signposted. You will find it, as I did on my third attempt. It's on the south side of the A684 in Wensley down a short track between the Three Horse Shoes pub and a little candle shop.
No problem with parking. A precarious foot path to the left takes you a few yards to the waterfall as it emerges from beneath the A684.
Can be very spectacular when the head waters are full.
Difficult to find as it's not signposted, probably because it's free. You will eventually find it in Wensley a few yards down a rough track southward of the A684 and between the Three Horseshoes Inn and the White Rose candle shop. A bit of a tricky but short path to the waterfall as it emerges from beneath the main road at Wensley. Well worth the effort to find and observe this little beauty.

It's a lovely little waterfall great as a small stop on your route, can be a little hard to find but if you park behind the pub and walk down to the candle shop it's in the garden off the candle shop.

A pleasant restored heritage railways station with train service. The station has a cafe and shop and is well stocked and run by very friendly volunteers. I had a coffee and cake and both were nice. In terms of the train ride, it’s a scenic line but the timetable isn’t the most frequent so definitely check before attending.
Brilliant little preserved railway, can thoroughly recommend a visit for lovers of old diesel engines combined with the lovely scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.

A small amount of parking is available on site but only 5 min walk from the town center carparks. Has a well stocked shop and café serving drinks and snacks. The staff made us feel welcome and were very helpful. The round trip to Leeming takes about 1 hour 40 mins and has some great views. Great for a trip down memory lane.
A really well preserved railway station. Freindly volunteers. Nice cafe and gift shop. Good toilets. Some car parking, plus more in the nearby town. A great train ride to Leeming Bar and back.
Lovely Cafe. Cakes are homemade, I had raspberry and apple cake and my wife had carrot cake. Easily the best cakes in Yorkshire.

Really nice site, we stopped over here for a night en-route Northumberland, would have liked to have been stopping longer. It's a really peaceful site in a beautiful setting, the facilities were nice and clean (and no dreaded push-button showers!) and Tony the warden was really friendly and helpful. Wish the pub across the road had been open the night we were there but you can't have everything 😄

What a great site! We were met with the warmest welcome shown to a very large pitch! The site was very well-kept, and the dog walking area was immaculate. The shower block was spotless and warm. Having a lovely pub over the road serving great food was an added bonus. We would definitely recommend.
We visited the gardens beautiful garden. You don't have to pay online like we did there is a honesty box to pay. Not much direction to where to walk round privately owned needs updating
Great caravan site (pitches, showers, staff etc) BUT the permanent pitches seem to think it is okay to mow their own “lawns”. So a peaceful sunny afternoon is constantly interrupted by the whirring motors of underpowered lawnmowers pushed around and around, ruining the grass and making a nuisance. The owners already cut the grass to a very tidy length. I just don’t understand such inconsiderate behaviour from the seniors here. 🤷🏻♂️

My girlfriend ordered the Goats Cheese and red caramelised onion pizza, which was a good size, very filling and tasted delicious.
I had the chicken parmo with peperoni and chillies and wow, this was delicious.
I had a pint of Theakstons best, which I was not expecting to find when I arrived.
The car park was full, beer garden was busy, and the staff (mainly yound girls) just worked through the queue and kept smiling.
We recommend this for anyone in the area.

Its a nice little country pub. Good selection of local beers. We booked a table for x6 13:30 for a Sunday Lunch. It is busy. We were shown to our table and told to order at the bar. No problem but a short wait for the barman to come from the kitchen. Then, a table of four sat behind us and their orders were taken at the table?
The roast dinners were very nice, some green veg and parsnip would be great with the beef, but the carrot swede mash was OK. Yorkshire puds and roasties very nice, the side order of cauliflower cheese was super. After finishing our dinners we waited for the table to be cleared quite a while, the waitresses continued to walk back a forth aware we had finished but just ignored the work and did not clear the table. Finally we went back to the bar and ordered pudding. The barman came over with menus and he cleared our table and took our pudding orders. Again, very tasty. You'll not be dissapointed with your Sunday Lunch, but maybe the service if you get ignored...
Great little pub, it was a halfway point of our walk, we were hungry and needed to dry out a bit. Met with a warm welcome and a treat for the dog. The pub was quiet but this gave the staff chance to have a chat. Beer was well kept served in a nice clean glass. We ordered a light lunch which was tasty and filling. A well run pub and would definitely recommend.

Lady serving in the takeaway was lovely but that was as good as it gets. Sadly, the food was terrible. We barely touched it and most went in the bin. Mushy fried rice, slimy omelette and the rest just tasted weird. Chips/salt and pepper chips weren't horrible and apparently the chicken curry was ok - but not good by any means.
I would have sent it back in a restaurant but paid cash in a takeaway when on holiday.
I'm confused by the positive reviews, maybe they have different chefs so can be a bit hit and miss? For us, on a Monday night, it was a huge miss!

We stayed at a local lodge and decided to order from here one evening. I can honestly say the food was terrible. Dry and tasteless. The duck and prawn toast was like leather. Avoid at all costs.
I was down in Leyburn for a few days for a family wedding and had the displeasure of experiencing the worst Chinese I've ever had. Chicken fried rice was boiled, chewy and insipid looking. The spare ribs were bare and had no meat on them. The chips were admittedly very good but not enough to carry this awful meal. I truly feel for the country folk of Leyburn who don't know there is better Chinese food out there. AVOID.

We were staying nearby and they managed to fit us in (4 children and 5 adults) at the last minute. What a lovely country pub! The service was excellent and there's a lovely welcoming atmosphere. It has a lovely seating area out the back which we didn't realise. Well the staff were very friendly, the food amazing and atmosphere great. In away good job we had triggered it was open, otherwise we would have been there every night. Thanks to the staff for making our last night very memorable and should we be up that way again.

Rated 4 star rather than 5, as although we really enjoyed it and would return, I’ve marginally marked it down for what feels like very expensive food (eg £9.50 for a sandwich), even in economically difficult times.
The staff were also a little cold if I’m being honest. All the right things were being said; at best it was service without genuine warmth or ar worst pretty curt, depending on the member of staff.

My wife and I visited Milners to check out some wool for a project. What a beautiful shop. Staff and friendly and helpful. As well as wool there are ranges of Seasalt, Whitestuff and other clothing too. All clean and smells lovely. A real credit to the staff and the town.

Confusing sign.
We had our pooch with us and it was a hot day and we wanted to discuss fabric for a reupholstery job we need carrying out and new carpets.
There is a sign in the door with the words "We love dogs" in a large font, so we thought ideal we can go in.
Fortunately, we looked closer at the sign, and there in much smaller letters the words "but our clothes don't - service dogs only"!
If you don't want dogs in your shop, which is fine, be more honest and just say so.
We found another carpet store nearby who was happy to allow our dog in the showroom.
Ordered a birthday present from Milners of Leyburn for my daughter which went astray somewhere along the Evri journey. Evri was extremely unhelpful so contacted Milners who were superb and responded quickly. They located the parcel and posted it, free of charge by Royal Mail next day delivery, so that it would be in time for her birthday. Excellent customer service.
Absolutely brilliant service from Milners, from help with deciding on fabrics, style and fit. We had new curtains and blinds and they look amazing and the quality is fantastic. We will be requiring new blinds for the rest of the house and will definitely be heading back to Milners. Thank you.

A fabulous wool shop. Lots of examples of patterns made up. Ruth was so friendly and helpful. You know how difficult it is when you've already got other wips but you just can't resist. The wool looked so sumptuous that I couldn't walk away without something. She encouraged me to even try them on and that completely sold me and I ended up buying a 'friend's hat kit' (what I went in for) and 2 lots of wool and two patterns for a cardigan and a jumper. Specialists in longhorn hand dyed wool. 4ply, DK and Aran. A little on the pricier side but you get what you pay for and totally worth it for items I'll have and wear for many years.
Have used the website and the shop. Very, very helpful and knowledgeable. The wool is of a fantastic quality and the lustre of it amazing. It washes well, I washed it by hand, don't know about machine. Love the colours as well. In the past I have sometimes been reluctant to pay this much for wool. No more. I am sure I will be wearing this woolly for years, even though it is a favourite and as such will be worn a lot. Have been asked where I bought it!
Have loved this special quality wool since the early 90s. Now in it's own lovely small shop in Leyburn which saves going off track to the farm where the Wensleydale sheep are kept. Lots of gorgeous colours and a selection of patterns. A serious knitters paradise.
I'm delighted with this finished sweater knit by my wife. I chose Wensleydale Longwool Sheep yarn in natural black and the 'Michael' fisherman's rib pattern. Can't wait for cold enough weather to wear it.
My wife and I own several sweaters and vests knitted of Wensleydale wool by several of the local knitting ladies. They are remarkable garments made from the finest wool I have encountered, including cashmere. Plus the folks who run this place are lovely people.

Chambers Coffee House is a newly visited coffee shop with a bustling atmosphere. Despite the busy staff, they managed to seat customers promptly and take orders efficiently. The coffee here is decent, not particularly strong but definitely not unpleasant. However, it's the food that truly stands out. The sausage and blue cheese baguette with chutney is a true delight, featuring three delicious sausages and an abundance of creamy blue cheese.
Stopped here en route to Northumberland. What a quaint, picturesque town! We called in for a pot of tea and scones and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was a real homely feel to the place and the staff were super friendly. Everything was so reasonably priced too! When we next go on holiday we’ll call again if in the area. Highly recommended.

Lovely tearoom just off the marketplace. Huge scones and nice selection of cakes. Friendly service and great prices. Good to take the weight off your feet and chill out. There's outdoor seating too when it's warm enough, or if you have muddy boots. Great scones with jam and cream 😀
We had lunch here after a trip on the heritage railway. We both had a panini which was delicious and had a generous filling, with salad and coleslaw on the side. The staff were friendly and welcoming, we could tell there were a lot of regular customers which is always a sign of a good cafe. The price was incredibly reasonably, two big lunches, a tea and cappuccino for less than £20. The cafe is well situated in the town, we were able to watch the world go by as we ate, ideal as we were on holiday. We would definitely recommend and if we are ever on holiday in the area again we will definitely go again.

We ordered a BLT and a Sweet Chilli Chicken sandwich. Both came with salad, slaw and crisps. A generous portion, very tasty and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend them 👍
We are visiting our friends in England, and they recommended Chambers for coffee and a scone. It was very good. The breakfast was a lot of food! The beans are tomato based, not too sweet, and very good on toast. The sausage and the bacon were delicious! We got a fruit scone which was raisin. It was very good too (and very large). Next time I want to try the cheese scone. 😋 Coffee was really good too! A nice stop before hiking around the dales!

Just had a fab lunch at La Cuisine, staff were great and Ian the chef is so passionate about his food. Surprised to find such lovely authentic Jamacian food alongside a traditional Sunday roast. Will definitely be going again.

The service at the door was great and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. They seated us promptly and Ali in particular treated us with great care. I had to say the Lamb Hasina was unreal and it really hit the spot. I will definitely be coming back here again.

I cannot recommend Saffron Indian Restaurant enough. From the appetizers to the desserts, everything was superb. The onion bhajis were crispy and flavorful, and the lamb curry was simply divine. Each dish was served hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The restaurant has a lovely ambience, perfect for both casual meals and special celebrations. The staff were knowledgeable, kind, and always smiling, which made the evening even more enjoyable. A five-star experience in every way.
I ordered a takeaway from Uber Eats. I was very impressed that the restaurant called to warn me of a long delivery time (as i am located a very long way from them). They the even beat their own delivery time. Tarka Daal is my favourite comfort food, I'm very fussy about it, but theirs was excellent! better than I've had in years.everything else was delicious and perfectly cooked even though it had travelled nearly 15 miles.
I have to say the curry was absolutely outstanding. The aroma alone set the stage for something special, and the first bite confirmed it.This curry was comforting, flavorful, and left me wanting more. Easily one of the best I’ve had, and I’d recommend it to anyone who appreciates authentic, well-made food
A bunch of us were staying in a holiday home some miles away where food delivery options were somewhat non-existent. We weren't exactly hopeful that they would be able to take our order but when I spoke to them on the phone they bent over backwards to arrange the delivery for a specific time that evening.
When the food arrived it was piping hot and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.
Was not sure but ordered early takeaway and got the 20% discount. We had jalfreezi and lamb madras. The biggest takeaway main course containers were much bigger than what we get down South. But the important bit the food was fabulous. I had never had such tender lamb and so much of it and my wife's chicken was the same. Would definitely recommend and will go back before our holiday ends!

Got a takeaway from here - £60 for 2 with no starters. Very expensive and small portions. Worst sagaloo we have ever had. Both of us had reoccurring diarrhea for 24hrs after when we didn’t eat anything particularly spicy - would not recommend. Not particularly friendly staff either.

Stopped for 2 nights and yes the rooms are a little dated, will not appeal to everyone BUT it was incredibly clean! Always what we want most in staying away. A very old looking rustic pub. Staff really friendly. Ideal for a quick visit to Leyburn. Parking not a problem. Would recommend.

Just had lunch here, had the hot beef sandwich with chips, sandwich was crammed with topside beef. Really lovely. Wife had the hot sauce chicken burger and loved it. Friends had cheese platter and prawn sandwich with Mary rose sauce. Everyone was very impressed with the quantity and quality of the food.

Stopped just for one night. Very comfortable room, the staff were all cheerful and very friendly. A good selection of cask beers. The cooked breakfast was fabulous. Plenty of free parking. Leyburn is a lovely village, no graffiti or litter seen.
As a recommendation, if you wish to book a room, do so by phoning them first. Best way of achieving preferable rates. We will return.
We were passing though the town and thought we would call in for Sunday lunch. From the outside, the venue seems rather grand so we made the assumption that we would enter into a rustic pub, warm welcome and lots of locals having Sunday lunch.
WELL!!! How wrong we was.
We entered into the most eerie atmosphere in have ever been in.
As we walked in, there was TVs playing, neon signs and not a soul in sight. As if the pub had been abandoned in a hurry. However we continued to walk towards the bar (even though there was no staff visible) hoping that our first impressions were wrong. It is worth noting that the children present also sensed a disturbance in the force when we entered.
We eventually found who we assumed to be staff asleep on the seating area in the corner.
We took this as a sign to leave and go elsewhere.
Officially the most obscure pub i have ever set foot in. Will not be returning.
We went for Sunday lunch, while we were waiting, I was a bit concerned as the place looked a bit unloved but they are seeking new managers so that could explain it.
When the food came, my fears were unfounded, it looked good and was delicious, a large portion for both of us, I had a Sunday lunch with beef which melted in the mouth with a home made Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings, my partner had steak and ale pie which was a huge piece and was very tasty, would definitely eat there again.
I haven't rated the rooms as we weren't staying here.
Never again..... dropped in at 4pm to see if they were serving food and we were told 6pm no mention of booking a table.Arrived back at 6 and after being told all the tables were booked , we quite happily sat in the beer garden ordered our meals at just before 6pm when food started, still waiting 50 mins later, which wouldn't have been so bad, but when we got it very disappointed, sausages tasteless, peas and carrots obviously from a frozen mixed bag and gravy like water , the only saving grace was the steak and kidney pudding my husband had. The staff were nice enough though.
Popped in here for some lunch, at first look at the menu I thought it was a bit expensive for sandwiches.
Ordered a cheese sandwich and my partner opted for ham, I also got some chips.
Sandwiches were huge, a full baguette with lots of filling. My partner had to take part of hers away with her, well worth the cost in the end.
Staff were nice. Food was well below par in my opinion. Steak pie was the only saving grace. Chips ok. Veg was very poor(frozen) Gravy was thin and tasteless. Mrs had scampi which was mush in breadcrumbs. Kids had mac n cheese. Milky and tasteless. Shame!

Nestled just outside Leyburn in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Wensleydale Show is a delightful annual event that takes place at the end of August. This vibrant showcase of rural life features an impressive array of competitive events, including over 60 classes dedicated to poultry and various livestock. The atmosphere is lively and genuine, offering a refreshing contrast to larger shows like the Yorkshire Show.
Fantastic agricultural show. Long cue to get it but soon went down. I would recommend a visit. Take Cash as they like cash. You can use your card.

Prepare to queue on the roads as you approach the venue.
After the commerciality and big business vibes of the Yorkshire Show the month before, getting into the dales at Leyburn for the Wensleydale show feels more genuine and connected.
Clothing stalls, beer tent, exhibit tents, food stalls and agricultural machinery a plenty but the animal shows in the main ring are the main attraction.
Ticket prices are reasonable and suggest buying them on-line pre show. Highly recommended as a day out.

Absolutely loved the Wensleydale Show in summer. Fantastic day out for all the family, loads to see and do, and lots of animals. Will definitely be visiting again, and free parking was a bonus.
The show was very good just the right size and mix of exhibits just a shame DEFRA can be so awkward so that the sheep trials could not take place in the main ring.
On the down side the queuing to get in was made worse by the lack of basic information and surly foreign security personnel who were rude and unhelpful. My prejudice but paying using my credit card to some one with a tattooed face and hands did not fill me with confidence

A brilliant day out with lots of fascinating local crafts on show. The central area has some really entertaining shows, particularly the terrier racing and Flyin' Ryan. The only downside is at lunch time you do have to queue for food but it's worth it for the great local produce, the scotch egg stall was a particular treat.
A very good show, lots to see, eat and buy. Some important visitors.

Had visited many times in the past with my dog and purchased some great walking shoes unfortunately on the last visit dogs were not allowed !
Unfortunate as I found the salesman very knowledgeable and helpful won’t return.
I went in to buy a pair of walking boots. The owner helped to kit me out. As an outdoor enthusiast he was very knowledgable about boot selection for the correct terrain and feet size. I have very slim feet size and his advice and guidance allowed me to own a superbly fitting and comfortable all-terrain scarpa boots which I believe will see me through next 10 years. The shop is very nicely stocked and maintained.
I've been wanting a new pair of walking boots for a while but can find it difficult to find shoes to fit and felt a bit out of my depth. Popped into The Walking Shop whilst in Leyburn for the weekend and had some incredible advice and guidance, proper measuring and testing to find the perfect fit - without any pressure to buy. The Meindl boots were a revelation and were spot on from the very first wear. So much so that my husband also took the plunge and bought a pair! Thank you to The Walking Shop for wonderful customer service and help, highly recommended.
Top notch by any measure. Alec is a fountain of knowledge about everything walking from boots to hats and everything in between. He knows his products and backs them up. It has been too many years since we took a holiday cottage in Bellerby but we still remember Alec’s kindness.
Called into The walking shop to try on some new walking boots. As I have been walking for over ten years I decided to try a different brand of boot. The owner was so helpful and his knowledge in walking boots and explaining to me why I had to go up a size from my original size 8 to a 9 was definitely worth every penny. He measured my feet correctly and as I do a lot of up/down hill walking, tested them on the downhill ramp they are perfect 👍. You never get this level of service when purchasing from online, and I’m so glad I called in as I would of stayed in a size 8. He deserves 5* for great customer care and my little freebie 😊 Many thanks from my happy feet 👣
I've been looking for my first proper pair of walking boots for a while. Called into The Walking Shop to have a look. Despite having other customers to help, the owner took the time to find out exactly what would be suitable for me based on my level of experience. He obviously knows his stuff. I came away with a very comfortable pair of boots and the feeling that he was more concerned with helping me find the right thing at the right price rather than just trying to sell to me. Very happy, thanks Alec.
Brilliant advice from the owner/manager who is very knowledgeable about boots, feet and walking and really helps you understand fit. The new boots i bought here are the most comfortable and best fit I've ever had. Cant recommend him highly enough. Shop has really good gear too!

Leyburn Shawl is a limestone outcrop above Leyburn that offers panoramic views of Wensleydale and Penhill. It's a great spot for history enthusiasts to explore, with a 5-mile loop walk featuring muddy paths but rewarding viewpoints. The area also boasts a fantastic playground for kids, making it an ideal destination for families.
We walked the 5 mile loop walk which was super. Very muddy and wet ( expected) but there were enough paths to make it worth carrying on. Stopped in Wensley to pick up some cheese before heading back to Leyburn.

Hillside walk with super views across the valley. There's also a large children's play area. No parking so you will need to park in the town with a short 5 min walk to the shawl. Good for dog walks on a clear pathway. Some benches along the route. Not steep but a bit of an incline.
Lovely walk with fantastic views. Located just a few minutes from the market square. Well worth visiting. There is a park there to keep the kids entertained further. Take a drink, picnic with you.

Absolutely fabulous church, well worth a visit and a generous donation to keep the place open. Lovely carvings on the choir stalls and some of the banners are wonderful. If you are passing please call in and have a good look around and enjoy the peace and tranquility as well.
A now disused church that's somewhat out the way but now I'm the care of the churches conservation trust and being cared for..
Full of interesting features and history including an elaborate canopied family pew and multiple box pews of significant age, in addition there is an old wooden reliquary associated possibly with st Agnes and probably the only one of its kind.
Other worthwhile features include an ornate and undamaged brass of a preist, ornate stalls near the altar and the large gravestone of 2 brothers known as the bluestone where the start of marriage ceremonies were and still are held and coffins placed for funerals.. an interesting and fascinating local tradition
This is a beautiful church with hundreds of years of history. it is open most days for touring. Be sure to do a google search of the history. Amazing. It has been very nicely kept. A few minutes drive from Leyburn.

I visited The Kings Head in Leyburn recently, and it really hit that sweet spot between a traditional country pub and a comfortable place to relax after a day exploring the Dales. The first thing that stood out was how welcoming it felt. The staff were genuinely friendly and down-to-earth, not just ticking boxes. It’s got that cosy, lived-in feel—stone walls, a proper fireplace, wooden beams—everything you want in a classic Yorkshire pub.
Food-wise, I was pleasantly surprised. The menu had all the usual pub staples, but with a bit more care and quality than you sometimes get. I had the [insert your dish here—e.g., steak & ale pie or Sunday roast], and it was really well done: hearty, flavoursome, and clearly homemade. Proper portions too—no one’s leaving hungry.
They’ve also got a solid selection of local ales and ciders, which I always appreciate. It felt like they cared about keeping it local and authentic rather than just offering the same generic line-up you see everywhere.
The atmosphere was relaxed, with a good mix of locals and visitors. You get the feeling that people actually enjoy spending time here, not just popping in and out. It’s the kind of place where you could just as easily have a quiet pint on your own as settle in for a long lunch with friends.

Slightly deterred by the choice language from some locals on a Friday teatime, but did not put us off returning the next day for the leyburn jazz festival which was very good.

Visited this pub a couple of times last week. Locals pub but they are so friendly and welcoming best beer and prices in town. Proper pub with nice staff, pool table, dart board and a jukebox. Definetley will call in when im in the area.

This is an excellent pub, with great staff and fantastically priced drinks. I come to the pub a few times a week and can confirm that the Covid restrictions they have in place will keep you as safe as possible, so please don't be put off by the previous review questioning them. There is a one way system in and out of the pub, track and trace or sign in sheet as soon as you walk in the entrance; hand sanitizer is available. Luke or another member of staff will take you to a table, where you can then take your mask off and order a drink. Table service continues throughout your stay and the staff keep their masks on. If you leave to visit the toilets or go outside you are ask to put your mask back on. I can't see how Luke and his team can do anymore. Add to this the excellent tasting drinks, vast amount of football and other sports on the many TVs and the lovely fire, there isn't a better place to have a drink in the town or area. As for it just being for locals, I'm originally from East London and don't live in the village, but always receive a friendly welcome and stay from staff and patrons as do my daughter's. It's a brilliant pub, make sure you pop in for a drink or two.

Absolutely gorgeous food! The cheese, ham and mango sandwich is amazing...as are the massive Chelsea buns and Danish swirls. Coffee is reasonable...but this isn't a coffee shop, so that's OK and doesn't stop me giving 5 stars.
Definitely one of the best bakers around. Their "Scrummy Oatie Cookies" are particularly gorgeous. That said everything from this bakers is wonderful. Today I had a cheese and red onion sandwich which was delicious.
I go out of way to find a "Thomas The Baker " shop.

We ate at The Royal Spice this evening, there was also a large table in at the same time but we didn’t have to wait long for our meal which was served hot and delicious. The team were friendly, welcoming and attentive. There was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Would definitely revisit if we are near Leyburn again.
Was really unsure what to expect but food was excellent and portion sizes very generous. Most likely one of the best Indian meals I have ever had. Atmosphere lacked a bit, but if that does not bother you, highly recommend.
We were staying in Aysgarth and drove here to pick up an order. Ordered online really easily and then collected the meals about 25 mins later. We stay in Yorkshire a lot and didn’t have massive expectations due to the rural location and we have an amazing curry house at home (Liverpool). We were so pleasantly surprised! The food was so tasty and still hot despite the drive. Everything tasted fresh and the meat was high quality. Staff seemed lovely. Our next trip we will be back.

Fries were so nice that I didn't have to use salt and pepper and the burger was simply delightful and moreish.
It was the perfect portion size and nicely priced.
I'm just gutted that I live close to 2 hours away from here so it'll be a while before I've tried everything on the menu.

Went here a good few times while staying down the road, the food was very good quality and reasonably priced, the beer was excellent, a good choice and variety. Anyway their food had been delivered and eaten before ours eventually arrived. Our food was excellent (hence 2*) I'd recommend you not eat here if you are hungry. Portion sizes are meagre. Neither when our plates were collected or when I returned to the bar to pay, did either staff member ask if everything was okay.

Penhill was my late father's favourite spot, and it's easy to see why. The views are amazing, whatever the weather. The walk up can be fun, but worth it!
The stone cairn gets rebuilt from time to time. Last time we were here it was just a pile of rocks, now built into a circular shelter.

Out of lockdown this year means that you can now go back into the shop to browse merch and buy irl - however you can still order online from the looks of things.
Lots of jumpers, shirts and the like but also has UoY mousepads, longboi magnets & even a duck plush! If you're a student, member of staff or even a visitor it's worth checking out the stuff this shop has to offer.
A tad on the expensive side but the jumpers prove to be worth it as they are nice and thick so kept me warm during the recent cold winter!

Lovely building, good location, great decor, nice atmosphere. Very small bar, fair selection of local ales but I never saw a member of staff behind the bar. Had Sunday lunch here a couple of times, overall pretty disappointing especially given the premium price. Wait times for food and drink were far too long, 30 mins plus for drinks, 1 hour plus for main course, dishes served at intervals and differing temperatures, even though the restaurant was less than half full. Food, when it arrived, was reasonable quality, generous portions but at best lukewarm. Nice dessert, terrible coffee.
There seems to be a problem with staffing/management. Waiting staff were friendly but none of those we spoke to were familiar with the food or drinks on offer. And the kitchen clearly isn't able to cope with demand.
8 of us visited for lunch 04/09/25. We ordered very different mains and deserts and it was testament to the quality and beautiful presentation that every plate was eaten with nothing left. Very good portion sizes and all dishes appeared freshly prepared. The ambiance and comfort of this eatery is warm and welcoming and the service was on point. Definitely a place worthy of visiting.

Dropped on for a quick bite to each at lunch, a burger and a ploughman's. The ploughman's was two pieces of the same cheese, four leaves of rocket some coleslaw and piccalilli and two pieces of dry bread, shreaded ham literally covered in whole grain mustard. No butter, onion, salad, pickles, onions, pork pie.
The burger came with chips, which if I'm being polite were best described as very dark brown and had either just been left far far too long or completely forgotten about. They were basically burnt and should never have left the kitchen. After saying they were not edible it was explained they so brown because of the sugar in the chips!!
We live nearby and have previously visited throughout the year but seriously if you are considering dropping in

This is genuinely a lovely bar/restaurant however, the service was all over the place. Apparently it had a new management team and didn't seem to be working very well. There was a male staff member crying in the bar, who then (I believe) 'left' . We overheard 2 separate tables that had waited for food for over 40 minutes, be told the chicken they ordered was no longer available. All in all, it was poor, we ended up cancelling our table that we had booked. Its a shame as we visited a number of years ago and it really is a lovely place. This is NO reflection on Akebar Park its self, Purley just the bar/restaurant
Terrible service. Went for sunday dinner with the family. We were asked what drinks we wanted while we were walking to the table without even seeing a menu. We ordered our food but they waited 30 minutes to tell us they had ran out of beef. We then waited a further 50 minutes to get our meals with no apology. All we got were excuses of being busy etc. The food was ok but well over priced. Would never go back.

The portion size for "regular" was huge so I'm glad I didn't go for the challenge size! The desserts were fantastic. Highly recommended and I wished that I lived closer.

We booked here for our anniversary meal on Thursday.
When booking we ticked the box that we were celebrating a special occasion but didn’t think anymore of it, on arrival we were met by a very special treat.
The service, food and drink was up there with the best places we have ever been, unbelievable.
We pass this restaurant every weekend and just thought it was a village pub, we were pleasantly surprised to see a fabulous restaurant.

From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely outstanding — easily the best we’ve experienced in a long time. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do.
The food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. What really stood out was the excellent range of vegan options, which is often an afterthought in many places, but here they were clearly crafted with care and creativity.
Whether you’re a foodie, travelling with a four-legged companion, or just looking for a special spot to relax and enjoy top-notch hospitality in the heart of Wensleydale, this place is a must-visit.
We absolutely love the Wensleydale Heifer, upmarket restaurant and individuality styled rooms with quirky, quality interiors.
The food is top quality focused on seafood but with lots of meat and vegetarian alternatives.
Great choice of drinks and amazing cocktail menu.

Our stay at the Wensleydale Heifer felt like a real luxury experience from start to finish. The rooms are uniquely designed, and ours came with whisky samples, which was a nice touch! The space was cosy yet comfortable, making it a great place to relax after a day out.
The service from the staff was outstanding - they genuinely seemed happy to help with anything we needed, which made the experience feel even more special.
Food was another highlight. We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious. You can tell they put a lot of care into their menu, and it really shows in the quality.
Parking was ample, but getting in and out was a bit tricky due to a very narrow entryway - something to be mindful of if driving a larger vehicle.
A couple of minor things we weren’t keen on: the towel rail was positioned at the far end of the shower/bath area, making it awkward when getting out, especially with nothing to grip onto unless you wanted something hot! Also, while the shower itself was great in terms of heating and power, it was quite noisy.
Overall, a fantastic place to stay with excellent food and service. A few small quirks aside, it’s well worth a visit for a luxurious getaway.
Our son booked here as a surprise 40th anniversary. The room was gorgeous. We stayed in the whisky room and the management provided a flask of whisky, cakes and an anniversary balloon.
The evening meal was
superb as was the breakfast and the staff were attentive and professional. We will be returning and we highly recommend this boutique hotel.
We stayed here for 1 night whilst travelling . The staircase to the rooms is extremely steep . The rooms are comfortable but the walls are paper thin . The person in the next room keep us awake all night with very loud snoring ! When at 4 am we were talking they had the audacity to bang on the wall . I would not stay here again for this reason . Please get some acoustic lining in your property. Regarding the stairs , we were told on booking there were 13 stairs and the building was old . Having just had hip surgery 6 months ago we would definitely not of booked if the accurate angle of the stairs had been described .
Had lunch here and the food is stunning - I had the chippy option - the fish and chips were fresh, crispy and perfectly cooked, and the bone marrow gravy is sooo tasty - hubbie loved the chicken milanese, which also came with a lovely sauce. The chef has a talent for sauces I think! Would definitely recommend - the staff were lovely too 🙂
