Nestled between Marino and Frascati, the Exarchic Greek Monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata is a captivating 10th-century Christian Orthodox site that boasts impressive fortress-like architecture. While its exact origins remain a mystery—possibly built atop Cicero's villa—the remnants of an ancient aqueduct hint at its historical significance. Founded in 1004 by St.
A monastery from the 10th century, an interesting architecture. A side Chapel from roman times seems to be the oldest part, most others have been altered in baroque style. Still original from the outside. There is a nice view of sunset from here and a souvenir shop. The latter sells also farming products from the minks, such as honey and wine.

Great discovery, unmissable! Enchanting in his simplicity yet elaborate decor. If you find it closed, try to knock or ask the museum nearby, they might help you find the guardian to open it or inform you about the schedule. The ones on the door did not seem correct to me. At the beginning of June, during the week, it was tourist-free. It was a marvellous and peaceful moment. The abbey was founded in 1004 by St. Nilus of Rossano, a monk of Byzantine descent. It has remained in continuous operation since then. It is the only one of the Italo-Greek-Byzantine monasteries that has survived. Most of them gradually fell into decadence and were seized by the Kingdom of Italy when it secularized religious orders in 1866.

A Christian orthodox monastery, since 1024. Impressive structure very well maintained. Beautiful view even at night!

More than 1000 years of history and magnificently looks like a fortress!

This monastery is one of the only three monasteries with Greek Orthodox Mass rite in Italy, with more than 1,000 years of history (it was founded by the monk S. Nile in 1004). This place is a fine blend of bizantine, Baroque, medieval art dominating the breathtaking scenery of Grottaferrata, at a few km away from Rome. Easy to reach, definitely worth to spend a couple of hours here!
Silvia B — Google review
Little gem of a church, Abbazia San Nilo, the last of the Byzantine-Greek monasteries of Italy. It's feels very spiritual and amazing icons and frescoes. Worth the visit and one of my favourite churches in rome
Fekadu Y — Google review
An ancient Abbey built on the ruins of an older Roman Mansion, some says that this ol d Roman Mansion was the legendary house of Cicerone that has never been found. The Abbey has been founded in 1004 a.D. and surrounded by a fortress in the late middle age to protect its treasures. A visit is a must if you find yourself in the neighborhood... Plus nearby you can find some really special for good and genuine food

Agricoltura Capodarco is a delightful destination that offers a refreshing escape into nature. Nestled in lush greenery, it features spacious outdoor seating and charming gazebos where guests can enjoy their meals. The restaurant serves an array of homemade dishes made from fresh ingredients, ensuring every bite reflects the care put into its preparation.
The food was really home made! I could taste the freshness of the ingredients and the love that went into every dish. The service was great, friendly and accommodating without it being invasive or rehersed. Highly recommended! Especially for large businesses groups!!

(Translated by Google) An evening to forget. It begins with the arrogance of a restaurant manager who, when we asked for various fried foods, kept repeating that they only had the three items listed on the menu, but in a very irritable manner. As for appetizers, the suppli arrived... too bad one had a long, black hair stuck in the mozzarella, and he always told us it seemed strange, considering everyone in the kitchen was bald!!!... He ordered another one, unfortunately still frozen, with the mozzarella stripped of hair, but this time it didn't even run... he still thought it did!!! I didn't ask for another!!! The pizzas arrived... one of them was burned underneath, impossible to eat with the typical burnt smell. The guy ordered another one, identical to the first, floating in oil, impossible to eat either. They forgot to bring one, so it arrived after we were all finished. We asked if they had any donuts to go with our coffee, which, as is often the case in many other restaurants, are usually offered with liqueurs... but on our bill, they were labeled "libero" for a whopping €3.50, a portion of four donuts... tiny... tiny!!!! I said, "What's the word "libero"?... and he always replied, "the donuts"! To which I replied that after everything that had happened, we expected him to offer them to us... and he asked, "Why?... what happened?"... surprised by my request!!! The nine of us went home hungry, four of us... having paid a whopping €27 per person!!!! Despite everything, the waiters were kind and helpful, unlike the restaurant manager.

(Translated by Google) My family and I have been coming here for years. Unfortunately, we've been served twice. After a 40-minute wait, we were rudely told we had to wait by a very rude and impatient waiter. We were afraid to even ask for a bottle of water or add something we'd forgotten at the end of the order because the waiter got annoyed. CRAZY, HOW CAN YOU SERVE LIKE THIS? My sister is celiac and has always eaten here without any problems. The last time she asked for a gluten-free bruschetta, the impatient waiter said, "But we have a lot of contamination." It seems absurd to me that a restaurant that caters to celiacs would say something like that. She couldn't even get a pizza because there was such a long wait. I understand that it's very busy on a Saturday night, but this can't become a problem for the customer. There should be more organization, and especially certain people who aren't suited to working with the public shouldn't do it. Because waiting is fine, but being treated badly is NOT. After years, we're forced to look for another restaurant. What a shame. I'm giving one star only for the location and the food.

Very small park mainly for little children. Staff is rude and shows they don't want to work or even stand up. They clearly don't want to work with or for foreigners. If you are a tourist, read the other reviews from foreigners and don't go there. When you read answers to some recent tourists' reviews, you see a mix of scorn and racism. Just indecent!

Simply stunning. It's hard to believe this is still a private residence and not some sort of government building or museum, as many of the old villas have become over time. This is Roman opulence at its finest. It's worth taking the bus trip from Rome to Frascati just to peer through the gates. The surrounding town is steeped in equal amounts of history as the villa, so it's a wonderful day out
Titus A — Google review
Although you can't enter the villa itself, the grounds are definitely worth exploring. Make your way behind the villa and you will find some lovely fountains and sculptures. Then keep going up the hill towards a very large park. From the front of the villa there is a great view of Rome in the distance.

Nestled in the heart of Grottaferrata, Taverna dello Spuntino has been a beloved establishment run by the Fortini family since 1960. This charming trattoria exudes warmth and hospitality, making it an inviting spot for both locals and visitors alike. The restaurant is steeped in history, with its ancient walls once serving as a wine cellar for the Castelli region.
Fantastic lunch experience. The food came out in a timely manner and delicious. Generous portions. You pay a bit more here but it’s worth every cent. As a tourist; the staff don’t speak English but nonetheless understand and get it right. The owner even let us look through the cellar which is within the catacombs. Highly recommend!

Very genuine traditional food in a superbly characteristic tavern-like restaurant, with excellent hosts. We loved the possibility they give, for patrons to opt for more than one 'primo', getting an excellent combination of one's favourite pasta options. Great generous portions, at times even too large for the average eater. The price is right - not amongst the cheapest options but what is offered here is great quality and generous portions. All in all, the right price. Cosy in winter and fully air conditioned in summer! Excellent for Sunday lunch or family gatherings, birthdays, special occasions, or just a any reason to eat in a lovely place. Tried and tested on different occasions and will be back again.

I simply lived this restaurant. The decor and attention to detail. From the fresh flowers, the porcini mushroom, harvest table , linens and my favorite plates,it was simply a beautiful Roman restaurant. Our host knew what to order for us fettuccine with porcini then the most tender guancile ( pork cheek) we had ever eaten. I had a ravioli with a very light and tasty sauce. The red wine from the Aldobrandi estate paired perfectly with our meal. The desert was tiramisu and it was good. The cantucci with fennel liquor was a delicious finish. Highly recommend!!!

We have been here for dinner and opted for the mixed plate of pasta (you can choose 3 of the pasta dishes from the menu and try a but of each). The service has been attentive and the food was really nice, but I was a bit sorry we were seated outside because I’ve seen the pictures of the inside area and the restaurant seems really peculiar, I think the atmosphere is definitely nicer inside. A part from this I was also surprised to see that they only had large bottles of water, so for just the 2 of us we had to take a litre of still and a litre of sparkling water, and having ordered wine as well we didn’t even get to half of each bottle.

Amazing decor & fair service, but the food was overpriced and not very nice. Thickly salty prosciutto with a small bocconcino sized mozzarella €20. House red was vinegary. We ordered 8 different plates and only the steak was good. I wonder what food other diners ate that have given this place 4 & 5 stars. Toilets are clean. (Translated by Google) An unforgettable experience! We discovered this restaurant almost by chance, but it was one of the best gastronomic surprises of recent times! The welcome was warm from the first moment, thanks to an attentive and kind waitress, who made us feel at home. A detail that we appreciated very much was the visit of the chef himself, who passionately explained the dishes to us and guided us in our choice. We opted for a round of tastings of three first courses and we couldn't have made a better choice: one better than the other! The pasta, strictly fresh, had a perfect consistency, cooked al dente and with very fresh and local ingredients. It's been a long time since we've tasted such delicious first courses! Even the desserts were up to the standard of the rest of the meal: the tiramisu was light and fresh, a real pleasure for the palate. The whole experience made us feel more like we were in a home kitchen than a restaurant, a detail that makes this place special. It will definitely be a fixed stop for future occasions and trips! Highly recommended! (Original) Un’esperienza indimenticabile! Consigliatissimo!

(Translated by Google) I wanted to give a very positive opinion on this activity. I was for lunch this Sunday 8th September and I must honestly say that I had a really good time. Excellent food and service, delicious first courses: smoked fettuccine and tonnarelli, bacon and cardoncelli. You can see in the photos the quantity of portions, each first course was two portions, that is, we practically ate four first courses for the price of 2, but Chef Nunzio rightly said that "in this restaurant you have to eat" 😊. Second course is also very good Capocollo di Cinta Senese (pork). The restaurant has very nice internal rooms, higher level chairs and cloth tablecloths, in many places there is a sheet of paper instead of the tablecloth and you pay more for service and cover charge, here less. In my opinion, at the Casina del Buongusto there is the union of the refinement of a superior restaurant and the friendliness and friendliness of an Osteria, Trattoria Romana. For me this is an advantage. Chef Nunzio lists all the dishes to choose with precision and kindness, careful to check every now and then that everything is going well for the customer. Even the waitresses Nicolle and Francesca, precise, kind, polite and nice. Greetings to all of you, Dario.

I recently stayed at Villa Cavallatti and had a wonderful experience! - The hotel is situated in a safe and quiet area, perfect for relaxation. - The rooms were fairly clean , providing a comfortable stay. A special thank you to the incredible staff: Giulia, Diego, Alessandro, Veronica, Lavinia, and Eleonora. They were exceptionally friendly and attentive to our needs, always ready to help with any concerns we had. Their hospitality truly made our stay memorable . The only downside was the difficulty in finding Uber services, and the hotel is a bit far from restaurants and shops, which could be a challenge if you prefer to dine out frequently. Overall, Villa Cavallatti is a fantastic place to unwind, thanks to its serene atmosphere and the outstanding service from its staff!!!

As a group of 10, we spent an amazing morning at the Villa. The staff welcomed us at such short notice for a wine and oil degustation, which we really enjoyed. Lavinia was a fantastic guide, taking us round the property whilst giving us information about the history of the estate and explaining steps in the production of their wine and oil. We enjoyed the breath-taking views in such a peaceful environment. An experience not to be forgotten and we'll surely come back.

Absolutely unforgettable experience at Villa Cavalletti! The olive oil and wine tasting tour at the on-site museum was a true highlight—our guide Lavinia was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and brought every detail of the process to life. The flavors were extraordinary, and the setting among the 27 acres of vineyards and olive trees was nothing short of magical. Waking up to breakfast on the villa’s top terrace, with panoramic views of Rome and the surrounding hills, was a dream. Every bite was fresh and flavorful, served with care and a view you’ll never forget. Huge thanks to the front desk staff, both day and night—they went above and beyond to make our stay seamless, offering top-tier recommendations and always greeting us with warmth. Just a few minutes away, the charming town of Frascati offered fantastic designer shopping, delicious food, and easy train access that made exploring even easier. Villa Cavalletti is a hidden gem that blends nature, history, and hospitality perfectly. We can’t wait to return!

We stayed at Villa Cavalletti for three nights at the end of September, 2023. The staff at the reception were immaculate, attentive, kindhearted, with great manners. A special thank you to Stefano and Alessandro (hope I got the names right!) you both took a great care of us like if we were your own family and you made us feel very welcome.❤️ The hotel has an absolutely stunning garden with fountains where you can spend hours just chilling. Breathtaking views from the roof terrace on level four. Our apartment was lovely and we had everything we needed. The beds were so comfortable, the best mattresses we’ve ever slept on. Our apartment was attended by a housekeeper daily, beds were nicely made and fresh towels were placed in the bathroom. We enjoy our stay very much, thank you for your hospitality! ❤️

Scammers, the prices are in the menu but after you eat they charge you different prices, they charge you more without telling you. And the pizza was nothing special and we waited 20 minutes for it even though the restaurant was empty (only us and another table eating), 20 min for two pizza, stealing money by charging more than what in the menu, and pizza is not great. Never to go back, it explains why the restaurant is empty

Food experience was 5 out of 5 stars, with unexpected quality of what constitutes a proper pizza dinner in Rome and surroundings, with all the proper fried appetizers like zucchini flowers, cod fish, ascolana olives, mozzarelline and obviously suppli'! Very nice selection of fantastic ITALIAN beers. Atmosphere is rather downbeat, though, with aseptic wall colors and furniture. Excellent value for money. 5 stars especially for the tranquility and the staff. If it remains, the desserts are also highly recommended. We gladly come back very often. (Translated by Google) We chose this restaurant for our wedding lunch on October 12th and it was like feeling "in slippers" from the first day we entered to try their dishes. Excellent quality of the products, very fresh and delicious, obviously the top dish was burrata ravioli with amatriciana sauce and I'll leave you to imagine how extraordinary that crunchy bacon was... Our relatives were all more than happy, and the approval of the Umbrian is worth like no one else's 😁 Stefania and Leonardo followed us every step of the way and met our every need with great availability and tolerance, truly two golden people. The service carried out entirely by the guys was impeccable, very nice and very kind. We have only good memories of this experience, we will gladly return to taste other seasonal dishes... Thank you very much, see you soon! Grazie mille veramente, a presto! ❤️

Everything was perfect: from the aperitif, held in the beautiful and meticulously maintained, elegant, and slightly shabby chic garden, to the lunch inside the restaurant. The owner, Stefania, took care of everything with great kindness and professionalism. The dining table was very elegant and had a beautiful centerpiece of fresh flowers, and the table for the favors and confetti was beautifully presented! Since the weather was a bit unpredictable over the past week, we spoke several times to decide how best to organize everything, and I must say, it turned out to be a wonderful festive lunch! All our relatives complimented us on the location, on the kind people who looked after us, and above all on the menu. The food was excellent, high-quality, and just the right amount! I'd like to extend a special thank you to Stefania, because at the end of the party, my very elderly aunt fell, and she promptly arrived with a first aid kit and ice pack to help us care for her as best we could (such support is not a given). In short, I highly recommend her for organizing a party or important event because it will surely be unforgettable! Thanks again for the wonderful party!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful setting and ample parking, but the portions and maintenance of the grounds could be improved. Il Castellaccio is a location that offers undeniable logistical advantages. The very large parking lot is an exceptional strength, making access extremely convenient. Furthermore, the service was attentive and professional. However, the rating is limited to 4 stars due to some critical issues. First, the grounds, although extensive, needed greater care and attention in the management and pruning of the plants. The small plates left on the ground for "beautification" were a constant hazard for children who are very distracted while playing. The second aspect concerns the culinary experience: while the quality was good as always, we noticed that the portions of the dishes were not particularly generous. This left us feeling dissatisfied, as we had hoped for greater generosity. The flavors (in my experience) were just right. In short, the facility has great potential, highlighted by the service and convenient parking. To reach a higher level, greater effort is needed in exterior aesthetic maintenance and, above all, a better balance between the quality and quantity of the dishes served. This is my opinion.

Nestled within the historic walls of Grottaferrata, the Museo dell'Abbazia greca di San Nilo a Grottaferrata is a treasure trove of art and history. Established in 1004, this museum showcases an impressive collection that includes ancient sarcophagi, exquisite marble artifacts, and portraits of notable figures like Alexander the Great and Constantine.

Easily accessible, the road signs are explanatory, parking is convenient. The abbey has its own particular charm both outside and inside where I was able to witness an Orthodox rite. I recommend a visit to admire a cross-section of Byzantine and Baroque art. (Translated by Google) Small museum set up in the monastery of the Abbey of San Nilo to preserve and raise awareness of various artefacts linked to the history of the abbey. The historical importance of the artefacts as well as the beauty of these and some rooms is indisputable. Unfortunately the descriptions are too short and often the individual piece is described in its obviousness without explaining its importance: for example, the text (nor even a translation) of the medieval inscriptions is not reported which would certainly help to better understand them. Furthermore, the opening is scheduled only on public holidays, a real shame. In any case, it remains an essential stop to learn about the history of such an important monastery. The guided tours included in the ticket price are appreciable.

(Translated by Google) Small but very interesting museum, inside the garden of the fortress that contains the Greek abbey of San Nilo in Grottaferrata. Composed of 8 small rooms with an informative video on the various changes that the abbey/fortress has undergone since its construction and which contains historical pieces that describe this path. It costs only 5 euros and was a pleasant discovery. The only flaw is that you cannot pay with a card. In the area you can easily park the most paid ones. There was no queue and there was not much coming and going so it will be a very pleasant visit. The garden before the entrance to the museum is enchanting, the abbey is spectacular even though they were rehearsing for a wedding and therefore we could not take photos or even visit the crypt inside, a shame. I also recommend going up to see the library.

(Translated by Google) The real discovery of this monastic complex isn't the abbey itself (sorry...it didn't thrill me...beautiful but not spectacular) but its small archaeological museum, actually established about a century and a half ago with the first artifacts discovered in the area and subsequently renovated. The collection, the fruit of the expertise of several monks, is housed in the Renaissance rooms (one stunning one is even frescoed) of the Palazzo del Commendatario and is displayed chronologically. Open only on Fridays and Saturdays (and the first and third Sunday of the month), it costs just €5 and consists of just a handful of rooms, the last of which is dedicated to educational screenings and activities. It begins with a series of Roman-era statues retracing two millennia of the area's history. The most astonishing feature is the reconstruction of the Hypogeum of the Garlands, discovered near the nearby Catacombs ad Decimum, which houses the sarcophagi and burials of Aebutia Quarta and T. Carvilinus Gemellus, father and son, respectively (the grave goods also include a precious gold and rock crystal ring). In the main hall, there are some fragments of medieval frescoes that survived from the abbey's restorations, as well as many stelae, including a stele dating to the late 5th or early 6th century BC, depicting a seated youth reading a scroll. There are also numerous marble artefacts, sarcophagi, portraits, including one of Alexander the Great and one of Constantine, and beautiful pieces of Byzantine and more recent art. It practically occupies the wall that runs along the corner of the structure next to the entrance door and overlooks the square with the statue of Saint Nilus. Absolutely not to be missed. Need some useful info? Then leave a like and check out our other reviews of Rome and beyond. Utili info? In addition to a religious soul and an absolute dedication to the Lord God, they also had a particular attention towards art and expressed this sense through the collection of artistic and architectural materials that over time. Even the commendator abbots delegated by the Pope to manage the abbey of Grottaferrata carried out a commendable job which was also reflected in terms of the architectural enrichment of the monastery and the church. Everything converged in the abbey museum, where finds of great value and artistic significance such as the hypogeum of the garlands, a tomb made up of two sarcophagi and the Attic stele with splendid funerary reliefs found hospitality and shelter in the rooms that compose it. such as the young man intent on reading. Of great value is the late fifteenth century marble predella depicting Christ "man of sorrows" between angels and saints The beautiful access portal to the narthex of the abbey has been recomposed and is clearly visible inside the museum. You are then entranced by admiring the fifteenth-century sculptural group of the Madonna delle Grazie in painted limestone, attributed to Giovanni di Biasuccio. A chalice-shaped refresher in painted majolica by Cardinal Farnese from the sixteenth century is beautifully displayed in a room of the museum together with silver chalices, pyxes, mortars, shells and tribals in embossed silver. Paintings reproducing the thirteenth-century frescoes of the abbey, a section of a fifteenth-century polyptych by Bicci di Lorenzi in tempera depicting Saints Benedict and Nicholas and a splendid cycle of frescoes, dedicated to the stories of the Roman leader Fabio Massimo, executed by the mannerist Francesco da Siena in the sixteenth century they embellish the various rooms of the museum.

(Translated by Google) Monastery in Grottaferrata A small miracle 30 minutes from Rome - an 11th century Greek monastery founded by Saint Nile. This is the last saint revered by both churches - Catholic and Orthodox, since already in 1054 there was a schism and the churches went their separate ways. Saint Nile of Rossan was born in Calabria in 910 into a Greek family; after the Arabs captured Southern Italy, he was forced to wander a lot to different monasteries. His stern and ascetic nature attracted people and monks to him, and he enjoyed authority among the powers that be. Thus, the Count of Tusculan gave him an abandoned antique villa in his domain, where Saint Nilus, already 94 years old, founded a monastery according to the Byzantine rite in 1004 and soon died. The monastery had a difficult fate - it was under the patronage of popes, three of whom were representatives of the Tusculan family), was the scene of constant hostility between emperors and popes, as a result of which it was attacked and plundered. At the same time, huge land holdings and favorable geographical location turned the monastery into one of the important pilgrimage centers. The new flourishing of the monastery is associated with the fall of Constantinople in 1453, when many Greek intellectuals were forced to flee the city captured by the Turks. Thus, from 1462, the monastery was headed by Vissarion of Nicea, who continued the library tradition established by Saint Nile, increased the collection of manuscripts and manuscripts, and generally carried out a significant reconstruction of the monastery. Further, the monastery was headed by representatives of the Rovere family and Colonna, Farnese, Barberini, Borghese, who contributed to the development and decoration of the monastery. The life of the abbey continued and even Napoleon’s capture of Italy did not affect Grottaferrata - it was decided to preserve the abbey as a unique center of Byzantine culture. In 1874, despite the policy of secularization of church lands, the monastery was declared a National Treasure of Italy, and the cult was preserved. Now the monastery is one of three centers of the Italo-Albanian Catholic Church, in which worship is carried out according to the Byzantine rite. 12 monks from the Basilian order perform services in Greek according to an ancient typicon of the 11th century, written by Bartholomew the Younger. The first thing that strikes you when entering the main temple of the monastery - the Church of the Virgin Mary - is an indescribable fragrance that is felt only in Orthodox Greek churches. The temple is built in the Romanesque style, the entrance is preceded by a deep columned portico, followed by a narthex, above an ancient wooden door with a richly carved marble portal - Deisis mosaic, all dating back to the 11th century. On the right is an ancient 11th century baptismal font (a copy, the original is in the museum). Inside, the church has three aisles, with a Greek iconostasis, but with Baroque elements preserved from numerous changes. In the center is the revered icon of the 12th century Byzantine master Hodegetria. In the triumphal arch, after reconstruction in the 20th century, a 13th century fresco depicting the Holy Trinity of the Fatherland type was discovered. On the sides it is framed by two mosaics from the 12th-13th centuries depicting the scene of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. The floor of the basilica was made in the Cosmatesque style in the 12th-13th century and is perfectly preserved. The interior of the basilica as a whole belongs to the restoration of the 18th century, when many mosaics and frescoes were lost. To the right of the entrance is the historical crypt of Ferrata, which gave the name to the monastery. The small square room made of dark volcanic stone dates back to the 5th century; perhaps there has been a Christian chapel here since the time of the ancient villa, and here, according to legend, St. Nile prayed and the Virgin Mary appeared to him with instructions to build a monastery. Another landmark of the church, the Farnese Chapel, was painted at the direction of Cardinal Odoardo Farnese in 1608-1610 by the young Domenichino. The cycle is dedicated to the life of the founder Nil Rossansky; in the faces of the characters one can discern portraits of the artist’s contemporaries Guido Reni, Guercino and others. The altarpiece in the chapel is the work of Annibale Carracci. The monastery museum is definitely worth a visit. 👌👌👌

Fossato dell'Abbazia di San Nilo

Historical landmark
Fossato dell'Abbazia di San Nilo is situated in a protected natural area on the Alban Hills, covering 15 municipalities in the Lazio Region. The location has been utilized for historical re-enactments and medieval fairs, complementing the backdrop of the walls and moat of the Abbey of San Nilo. The Municipality of Grottaferrata is dedicated to enhancing this unique place, making it suitable for various events that take advantage of its historical charm.
(Translated by Google) A moat that becomes a unique place. I was there for a historical re-enactment of a medieval fair and I must say that the place suited it very well. The Municipality of Grottaferrata does really well to enhance the place. I couldn't say what other events are organized here but they all fit against this backdrop of the walls and sticks of the Abbey of San Nilo.

(Translated by Google) More evocative than the interior, this part of the building must have actually undergone significant changes over time, creating a more relaxed version that could then be enjoyed by the public. It does not have the characteristics of a moat but rather a civic space, especially since the municipal administration is exploiting its central location and functionality to host events, historical reenactments, and themed markets inside. But why a moat for a church? Pope Pius II appointed the famous Cardinal Bessarion (yes, the one with the house on the Appian Way, editor's note) as Commendatory of the abbey, which restored importance to the site, which was typically chosen by transiting troops to set up camp, occupying it due to its strategic position. Under the cardinal, this monastery enjoyed a period of peace and great cultural development until 1482, when the Duke of Calabria occupied the abbey again with three thousand men, which convinced Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere to fortify it. At the end of the 15th century—at the behest of Della Rovere (who would become the famous Pope Julius II) and designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger and Baccio Pontelli—the entire abbey complex was enclosed within a massive wall that included four towers and this enormous moat, making it one of the best-fortified abbeys (it was not the only one; consider the convent of the SS Quattro Coronati near San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome). Over a century later, Odoardo Farnese enriched the ornamental part by commissioning Domenichino to create the exquisite frescoes that can be admired today in the Farnese Chapel. The bastions are beautiful; to admire the moat, you must walk around it, not stopping at the road but reaching the end overlooking the valley, where a structure slopes towards the road. Need some useful info? Then leave a like and check out other reviews on Rome and beyond. Nestled in the heart of the Castelli Romano area, Ristorante Cinese Euroasia has evolved from its original focus on Chinese cuisine to include delightful Japanese offerings. While I can't speak for the sushi, I can wholeheartedly recommend their Chinese dishes, which are nothing short of exceptional. The appetizers and first courses shine here; their ravioli and spring rolls are particularly noteworthy. With my girlfriend we tried everything, from Japanese to Chinese cuisine. And it was all really delicious! It goes without saying that I recommend something, because I recommend EVERYTHING (the dishes you see in the photo are just a part of everything we took). Fresh ingredients (even the fish) and delicious. And finally the prices are excellent! The two of us, having eaten a LOT (really a lot), and having also taken dessert, spent €35 each, but we realize that we took a lot of things because we didn't eat so well (and because we were on a diet ) for a long time; which is why normal people can easily fill themselves up with €20/25 each (or if you eat little even €15/20 each). We will be back for sure! :)

(Translated by Google) Let me start by saying that I celebrated the birthday of a 7 year old boy. The place is welcoming even if basic. Ordinary furniture. Fairly average food, bland food, but well cooked. In the mixed carpaccio (of fish obviously), the fish was completely immersed in lemon and consequently canceled out the flavors of the fish. The latter is not of exceptional quality, it did not have a nice colour, especially the tuna. seems previously refrigerated. The sushi, however, was quite mediocre. Fish always of a fairly average quality. Overall, 3/5.

(Translated by Google) Almost perfect, second courses are unfortunately not their strong point, but the first courses and especially the appetizers are wonderful, the ravioli are spectacular and the waiters and cashiers are very kind, the price is fair. Recommended. (Translated by Google) Since I was little I have always frequented this restaurant and it was one of my favourites. It's a shame that recently I've totally changed my opinion: every time I go to eat there I feel terrible. food sails in oil, literally. for example, the prawn clouds actually taste like very old fried oil. very often the meat ravioli arrived completely raw. I was fond of this restaurant and it really breaks my heart to say it, but I strongly advise against going there to eat. ps: if you want to pay into separate accounts expect a 30 minute wait :))) (Original) da quando sono piccola ho sempre frequentato questo ristorante ed era tra i miei preferiti. peccato che nell’ultimo periodo ho totalmente cambiato la mia opinione: ogni volta che vado a mangiarci mi sento malissimo. il cibo naviga nell’olio, letteralmente. per esempio le nuvolette di gamberi hanno proprio il sapore di olio fritto molto vecchio. ci sono arrivati molto spesso i ravioli di carne completamente crudi. ero affezionata a questo ristorante e mi piange davvero il cuore dirlo, ma sconsiglio vivamente di andarci a mangiare. ps: se vorrete pagare in conti separati aspettatevi un’attesa di 30 minuti :)))

(Translated by Google) And I have been coming to eat here for many years and I always have a great time both because the staff is always nice and helpful and because it is really good, everything is super excellent: the ravioli, the spring rolls, the duck, the soy spaghetti... .everything really excellent with always fresh and quality products, not to mention the delicious sushi! I recommend it to everyone! Complimenti

(Translated by Google) Restaurant initially created for Chinese cuisine only and now also Japanese. I can't comment on Japanese food because I don't eat it. But I can definitely say that for Chinese cuisine it is the best. Service a little slow especially on weekends. Not a very modern environment. Honestly, a little extra waiting in such a place is worth it for the dishes that then arrive on the table.
