Portofino in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Portofino, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Portofino is a small Ligurian fishing village turned elegant seaside resort, known for its pastel-colored houses clustered around a scenic harbor. Visitors come for coastal hikes in Portofino Regional Park, boat trips along the rocky Riviera shoreline, and swimming in coves such as nearby Paraggi Bay. The town also offers landmarks like Castello Brown and the Church of San Giorgio, both with panoramic views of the Gulf of Tigullio. Its compact size, upscale boutiques, and waterfront cafes make it a popular day trip from towns like Santa Margherita Ligure and Genoa.
With favorites like Agririfugio Molini, Gelateria Gepi Portofino, and Outdoor Portofino, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Langosteria Paraggi and La Terrazza so you can get the best taste of Portofino while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nestled in a picturesque cove, Abbazia di San Fruttuoso is a 10th-century abbey with a rich history and ancient Roman cloister. The surrounding area offers stunning hiking trails through Parco di Portofino, featuring olive tree groves, rare orchids, and waterfalls. This location is part of the Sentiero Liguria, a 419-mile-long hiking trail along the Ligurian coast.
What a great side trip from Portofino - we decided to spend half a day here , visit the abbey, the museum and the tower together with a spot of swimming thrown in. It happened to be a magical experience!

Was very busy and not a lot to see tbh. Queue for food / toilet massive (sept) and too many people waiting / arriving on boats causing gridlock on te boat dock. Had 2 hours here due to boat times and couldn't wait to get on boat to Portofino. Much better places to see than here.
Martin S — Google review
Wonderful place to visit. So much history. Just a shame we didn't have enough time due to boat timetable. Will have to return again sometime.
Paul W — Google review
This place is worth your trip. Do not hesitate and loiter around to discover best view points. Take a swim. When you leave San Frutuoso sit at the back of your boat. You will have spectacular view.

What an amazing experience for a few hours to visit by ferry. There were a few trails to hike, photos to be taken, sea glass everywhere on the small beach and a few options for delishous seafood or cocktails. Highly recommend bringing a bathingsuit as the water was crystal clear and just beautiful.
Amy M — Google review
Nice hidden beach with no access by road, either we need to trekk or take ferry from Camogli or Portofino to reach this location. Beach has pebble shore and small, mostly people like to visit Christ under water statue which is about 200 meter from shore.
Vinay H — Google review
The hike from Camogli was awesome and really challenging! We went with another family and the youngest child was 5, so not too insane. The beach is pretty rocky, but we were able to find a good spot for our picnic. Water was cool in June, super refreshing! The abbey is simple and I felt a peace there. Caught the second to last ferry back with no issues. Really great day trip all around. Highly recommended if your in shape for a good hike!

We travelled by ferry to Abbazia di San Fruttoso which was wonderul as we could see everything from the water. We enjoyed walking around the site and exploring the paths and historic buildings. The beach was clean and surrounded by historic buildings in including the abby.

Baia di Paraggi, also known as Spiaggia di Paraggi, is a captivating beach located in the charming town of Santa Margherita Ligure in Italy. It is renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, golden sands, and lush vegetation, making it a top attraction in the area. The picturesque bay is surrounded by green hills and offers a tranquil swimming inlet with sun loungers on the beach.
Superb beach and incredible water, though to buy sunbeds is extremely expensive 200€+. A few restaurants that are expensive as well, but there is a free portion of the beach. Quiet in september. Would recommend for an incredible day at the beach
Luca P — Google review
What a wonderful place. Less busy than Portfino with nicer beach, with beautiful turquoise clean waters. Only issue is that the beach is 90% limited to the guests of the overpriced restaurants.
Fedja D — Google review
Spent an amazing day here with my family. Clear water and white sand. 90% of the beach was privatized and pricey for Sun bed and facilities. It’s really relaxing and a kind of experience. Love it.
Ida W — Google review
Visited Baia di Paraggi on Sept 23 and was happy to see that it was not overcrowded as it was clearly end of season. The “beach clubs” were either closed, or just really not that busy. There is a tiny “free” beach in between the private clubs areas, and there was still spots available around 1pm to lay a towel down on the sand. We walked to the beach from Santa Margherita Ligure which took about 15 minutes from where we parked on the street (for free) just past Capo Nord. The walk was pleasant on the boardwalk along the coast of the sea. We checked out the prices at Bagni Fiori for a day bed but it was out of our price range at appx 200€ for two day beds. Could have been worth it for a full beach day on a sunny summer day, but unfortunately it was a bit cloudy that day and we were only there for a short period of time. The hostess at Bagni Fiori was kind to us anyway.
C L — Google review
We stayed in a little boutique hotel in Paraggi and traffic was insane, the police officer stopped us and asked for proof of reservation to be able to drive down from Santa Margherita Ligure. It's located in the Italian Riviera. The "magic" of Portofino became more of a hassle than anything else... The Baia is pretty small and offers only a few options for food and drinks. It looks like it might be a great place for swimming and diving, but we did not test the water. Once we were able to park (we had to wait for a while to get a spot), we walked down to Portofino in about 20 minutes. That part was nice and very scenic but I wish they had a better structure for hotels and parking options. In a nutshell: too much demand for little structure.
Kat S — Google review
The bay is beautiful, no doubt about it. But if you’re not ready to pay a ridiculous price for sunbeds (70 euros for two beds and an umbrella even at the very end of the day, just for one hour!), you’re left with a miserable narrow strip of beach that’s already packed with everyone unwilling to pay that price. It felt humiliating – just one shabby dark changing booth for all the people there. My advice: bring as few things as possible.

Outdoor Portofino offers a unique experience for those seeking to connect with the sea. Visitors can embark on a kayak tour, exploring the stunning coastline and discovering hidden gems such as Port Bay, a secluded cove perfect for a refreshing swim. The knowledgeable guides provide insights into the area's history, geology, and wildlife, enhancing the adventure. Despite initial weather concerns, guests have praised the dedication of staff members like Sara who went above and beyond to ensure an unforgettable experience.
Our kayak and snorkel guide Filipo was amazing, and we had a nice little wine and focaccia snack after on their deck. Great experience, beautiful location and worth the money!

We had such an amazing time on our kayak tour in Portofino! Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive. She shared so much about the history of Portofino as we paddled past small harbors and landmarks, making the whole experience not just fun but also really interesting. It was our first time kayaking, and she explained everything clearly and patiently, which made us feel completely comfortable and safe. Her guidance and attention really made a difference. The 1.5-hour tour was truly magical—being able to see Portofino and its beautiful natural harbors from the sea gave us a completely different and breathtaking perspective compared to walking on land. Highly recommend this tour—it was a wonderful experience we’ll never forget!
Zoi V — Google review
It's an environmental friendly water sports operator. Signed up for the snorkeling tour, the assigned guide is very experienced of this particular bay. Depending on the crowd, the water visibility is about 20 feet or 7 meters. This allows you to see most of the bottom fish and other sea life's. However, their gears may not be the best. I would have bring my own giggle instead. If you're not into sun bathing, this is a excellent alternative. Certainly time of the day, part of the Bay is also shaded.

We accidentally wandered down onto this beach, just looking for a place to jump in the beautiful blue water. We were able to rent a stand up paddleboard for 2, just 20 € included a secure locker, use of shower, use of the board and 2 oars for an hour. What a deal, and super friendly staff. Gorgeous bay with so much room to explore and stunning views. Fantastic find!

My two daughters, both aged 8, enjoyed their Scuola Natura course with Outdoor Portofino this August! They did fun activities - stand up paddle, canoa, snorkeling and walks in nature. Their favourite part of the week was racing each other on the SUP, seeing octopuses while snorkeling and making new friends! The surroundings is absolute paradise and the teachers were very friendly, fun and knowledgeable. See you again next year!
Marianna S — Google review
We had a great first experience snorkeling here! The location has the feel of a little private beach. You can park your scooter near the stairs that’ll take you down the cliff safely to beach. Our instructor had a real heart for the sealife. Her enthusiasm was infectious while still remaining professional enough to take care of everyone in the group. 10/10
Ramon W — Google review
Phillipo provided appropriate instruction and historical insights for a fun and extensive kayak tour. Just the right length of paddling for us in a two person canoe. Then Julia was very detailed in our snorkeling education, in particular regarding fish that we might encounter. Once in the water, she was highly attentive to our equipment fit, underwater observations, and pointing out sightings for everyone to see. The experience ended with a refreshing drink and pizza/bread nourishment. Lockers kept our personal items safe. A great time that we highly recommend.

Highlight of my trip. Being able to get a view of Portofino that not many do and without the hustle and bustle of the crowds is amazing. Very easy for beginners also. Colour of the water like nothing you have seen and plenty of wildlife to boot. 6 stars. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who happens to be out there. Can also be booked through Viator.

Langosteria Paraggi is a stunning restaurant with a beautiful view of the sea. It's open all day and even offers a beach menu for those lounging by the water. The staff is welcoming and accommodating, especially to families with kids. While prices are on the higher side, the quality of food and service justifies it. The location is breathtaking but can be challenging to access. Guests have praised the professional and friendly staff who ensure a pleasant dining experience, even during busy times.
One of my favorite meals in Italy! The views are absolutely stunning, making the dining experience truly unforgettable. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, which added a warm and welcoming touch. If budget isn’t a concern, this place is definitely worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of my meal and can’t wait to return!

My daughter and I really enjoyed this meal. She especially liked the oysters and we loved the spicy lobster. The dessert was the best we had on our 2 week trip to Italy and Switzerland. The service was exceptional plus the restaurant sits right on the Dior Beach. Loved it.

Exquisite Italian dining by the beach near Portofino in a stunning setting. Dined with a selected set meal for a larger meal and each dish was delivered flawlessly, both beautifully presented as well as tasting fantastic. Service was excellent. Recommended!
Edward P — Google review
For any interior designer this place has to be a must visit. They do everything right in that respect. The lighting, the comfy seating, the decor, the view. Everything is perfect. We got in in time to appreciate the spectacular view as the sun dimmed its intensity. As the night strolled in and you start to notice the vegetal treliss, the difuse lighting from different angles, the intense reds that somehow fit nicely, the model airplane to my left. In most similar themed restaurants they overdo the decor and you feel like you are in a disney play. Here its handled with taste and precision, even if it looks haphazard. A beautifull frame for any wonderfull evening with friends. The food was OK, but it almost didn't matter as the ambience takes over making every minite enjoyable. If I had my two cents to add, it would be to make the portions a bit heftier, as all plates seemed like hors d'oeuvres. A wonderfull night nonetheless.
Alexander C — Google review
What a gem of a restaurant! From the moment we stepped inside to the time we left, the staff was attentive, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was utterly divine! The warm seafood salad melted in our mouths and the sea bass was sensational... as were the cocktails! We could not recommend this restaurant enough!

Absolutely outstanding experience at Langousteria in Santa Margherita! We visited with a large group for several extended lunches and were amazed by the fast, efficient, and genuinely warm hospitality of the entire team—even at short notice. The quality, freshness, and presentation of the seafood were exceptional, truly prepared to the highest standard. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, spotless, and extremely comfortable. Everything, from the ambience to the attentive service, was perfect. A special mention to the manager, Giovanni, whose leadership is evident in every detail—he ensured everything ran flawlessly and made each guest feel at home. Having dined at top seafood restaurants around Europe, I can honestly say Langousteria is among the very best—surpassing even famous names like Lobito de Mar in Marbella. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable seafood dining experience!

We enjoyed this restaurant so much we dined here twice in our 3 days! The cocktails, Lobster Pasta, gnocchi, appetizers and desserts were all so amazing in such a beautiful and special ambiance. And of course the views are amazing and out of this world!

La Terrazza is a restaurant located within the legendary Belmond Splendido, perched above a hill overlooking the harbor of Portofino. The view from the terrace is described as beyond amazing, especially during sunset while enjoying a glass of wine and dinner. The atmosphere is unbeatable for couples on a romantic getaway or families exploring the Italian Riviera.
Absolutely spectacular - "bucket list" setting. The service was kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and savvy. The food was the most beautiful I've ever seen, and just as delicious. The music, the setting, and the landscaping were so beautiful. If you're not staying at the Hotel Splendido, or in Portofino, I'd recommend scheduling a transfer service to take you - there are a limited number of cars allowed into Portofino. But the local drivers are allowed to drop off. And it's very hilly, so if you have folks who aren't able to climb a lot of stairs, it's important to drive to the hotel entrance and then walk to the restaurant. We would enthusiastically go back.
Eric S — Google review
Dining at La Terrazza is an unforgettable experience. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by breathtaking views that perfectly capture the charm and beauty of Portofino. Whether you’re seated indoors by the panoramic windows or out on the terrace, every glance feels like a postcard. The food is nothing short of spectacular. Every dish is crafted with care, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor — a perfect balance between authentic tradition and refined culinary artistry. You can truly taste the freshness of the ingredients and the skill of the chef in every bite. Service here is exceptional. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely passionate about creating a perfect dining experience. We had the pleasure of being served by Tekla, who is from Georgia — our home country. Meeting her was such a warm surprise, and she guided us perfectly in choosing desserts that ended our meal on the sweetest possible note. La Terrazza is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where every detail, from the cuisine to the view to the warm hospitality, is executed at the highest level. A must-visit for anyone looking to savor the finest of Portofino.

We spent three days at the hotel and ate twice at this restaurant. The view was breathtaking, and the staff was professional, as one would expect. The Liz Taylor pasta was delicious, as were all the pastas. Unfortunately, the meat and fish courses were not up to standard on both occasions. Vladi entertained us with his great music and made us forget about both the fish and meat! 🎹 🪇

I've dinned at both Splendido Grill and La Terraza on different occasions, and although dining at the Grill was a great experience, La Terraza definitely stood out. First and foremost, thank you, Gabriel, for your unmatched hospitality and kindness towards our 5 year old. She still raves about the flowers you picked for her to match her dress and bag. What a beautiful way to set the tune for the rest of our day. I absolutely adore Portofino, it will forever be one of m favourite places, and the views from this particular spot are unrivalled. The atmosphere is calm and very pleasant. Food is exceptional. Can't wait to return.

Absolutely beautiful view with unblocked Portofino scenery. Tubetti Pasta and sea urchin risotto tasted amazing and also loved the Ligure prawn which was very fresh. Felt like fish-chips was not really worth the price as there was only 1 or 2pieces of fish and the remaining were vegetables. Overall the service was good and satisfied with the experience.

Had a lovely lunch experience at La Terrazza in Portofino! The service was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the vitello tonnato and pasta. But the real highlight? The view. Absolutely breathtaking! Dining with that stunning Portofino scenery in the background made the whole experience unforgettable. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing meal with a view you won’t forget. 🌅🍝✨

Agririfugio Molini is a rural farmstay located in the Portofino Natural Park, accessible only by hiking trails. The simple rooms offer Wi-Fi and breakfast. Guests can enjoy trekking in the area and take romantic strolls along the beautiful promenade connecting S. Margherita Ligure, Paraggi, and Portofino. Despite being a bit pricey for some, it's considered a modest ask for the experience offered.
We went there for snack only. Unfortunately tagliere was not available (kitchen closed) but wine, dolci and farm products were all great. Location is beautiful and service was very kind.

This was perhaps doomed from the start. I found this accommodation on Google Maps and fell in love with the idea of staying in the wilderness overlooking the Ligurian sea. This place is completely *inaccessible* to anyone who is not backpacking which is not clearly communicated on their website. The offer of using the monorail for heavier luggage is smoke and mirrors. When attempting to journey to the accommodation I sought assistance from the owner who was most unhelpful and pitiless to my distress (I was lost on the trail at the time). Don't bother trying to make this your grail...it's not going to happen. I ended up staying in Santa Margherita Ligure and day tripping to San Fruttuoso.
Anya K — Google review
We hiked up from the cove for dinner service and this was the best meal and experience we had during our stay in San Fruttuoso. If you are looking to try Authentic Liguria food this is the place. We ate at a shared table with others who were lodging or also hiking and what a wonderful experience it was to dine with other nationalities. The service was lovely, kind and helpful. We ate many dishes, you will not leave hungry. Eating from a set menu it was all fresh and tasty, with the pesto gnocchi starter and rabbit main deserving a special mention. The children enjoyed "the best meatballs" they've ever tried and they are fussy at the best of times! Had it been a warmer evening it's possible to dine outside and take in the stunning views. After we finished dinner we then enjoyed the night trek back down the hill with head torches, again a magical experience for us and our children (our youngest is 12 and managed the walk up without issue, just wear sensible shoes). Not for those who don't enjoy a hike along trails.
A.D W — Google review
I stayed here as a 24 year old backpacking my way from Camogli to Portofino. The price was expensive for me then but looking back a very modest ask. I was late coming to check in.. very late. I had to call the host to tell him I'd be late because I had missjudged the walking distance to San Frutsuosso and got lost in the woods a few times. The host, a man whose name I have forgotten but whose kindness I will never, told me not to worry. He actually stayed up, waited for me to arrive and served me a three course dinner for one at 1100 pm.. He gave me so much food I actually couldn't finish it all! The location of this hotel is something I'll never to forget. You wake up and you can see the mountains on either side of the valley and the ocean. You can easily walk down the hill to town and to the beach. The water there is a crystal blue with big waves that pull you in quick. I think about this place whenever I need to escape in my brain to a time when I had been way too sure of myself and it worked out fine. Not because of my own ingenuity but because this place welcomed me in like a family. Please tip the hosts here they live locally and this is one of the few jobs around.

Fantastic place, only accecible by hiking the mountainbike trails. The very kind and welcoming staff, together with the stunning location made this a memorable experience. We stayed with our kids, youngest being 7, and they did the hikes very well. Prices ver reasonable, especially considering the logistics, where that the staff carries the majority of groceries up or down the mountainbike slopes.

This is an absolutely lovely place to stay - San Fruttuoso is definitely worth spending a night, very comfortable, clean, client-friendly, and eco-responsible. Emanuela answering to my messages, Alessandro taking care of the clients and the chef Stefano (you should definitely opt for the dinner there, it’s something!) did their best to make the stay just amazing. The views are awesome, the sleep was so peaceful with the sound of river nearby. Really appreciated flexible check-in hours. Grazie, merci, spasiba, thank you, it’s a gem!

On a roundtrip from Camogli to D. Fruttuoso, the ship not running due to waves, the bars at the bay below kind of uncertainly open, we had finally the chance to sit down and enjoy a piece of cake and a juice. Position and difficulty to bring food makes it not easy to carry goods, so it is not as cheap as one may think.

A hidden gem in Portofino, DÖ Batti is a wonderful restaurant with quality food. The service, food, and ambiance are perfect. If you want king prawns, go there. The octopus is the best dish eaten in the last three years. They also bring limoncello and other liquor after dinner on house.
The food is really good, l made the reservation in person and we came on time and has a good meal. The deserts are very good. Main dish also good but nothing special. We are 5 people and we paid 250€, the prices are indeed not cheap.

We were recommended this for the “batti prawns”. The food was good but not great. We also had the basil pasta also good but we had an even better one the night before. Very nice restroom. This can always be an issue in Italy. A little slow the night we were there but good atmosphere. We would probably come back but it’s not on our must do if we were.

This one was one of the best restaurants i have been to in Italy. Very small and run by an old lady and her husband, the vibe is very cozy and the food is to die for. We ordered one order of linguistine then ordered another then another.. totaling 4 orders, then we got two extra orders of risotto! The linguistine was so delicious I wanted to take some extra to go. The old lady was very friendly and welcoming making us feel we were in her home. My New fave place will be coming back here.

We had a lot of fun eating here at our day in portofino. The staff was friendly and though pricey and no view, the food was good and we enjoyed our experience. Get the shrimps if you wanna crack open a few unreal ones! But get ready to put your bib on and pay up!

Tourist trap - definitely wouldn't recommend. Service was also one of the worst we had in our trip to Italy. Avoid!

A hidden gem in Portofino. Don’t waste your money at the overrated seaside restaurants. The service, food, ambiance are just perfect. If you want king prawns go there. The sauce they cook them is heavenly! The octopus is the best I’ve eaten in the last three tears. They bring limoncello andsome other liquor after dinner on house. The owner is there all the time. Checking, greeting, serving

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Faro di Portofino, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nestled at the tip of the stunning Italian Riviera, Faro di Portofino is a captivating lighthouse that beckons adventurous souls. Accessible only by hiking, this scenic spot rewards visitors with breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea and surrounding cliffs. The journey to reach this iconic landmark is as enchanting as the destination itself, winding through rugged coastal trails adorned with vibrant flora and offering glimpses of charming pastel buildings dotting Portofino's landscape.
take care if you're mobility limited, the walk is very steep and there are steps, however there are lots of stopping places, and the views are spectacular! the faro itself isn't open but there is a very welcome bar that serves drinks with a view!

After a long walk starting from the stairs next to the Portofino marina, you can enjoy the view and finally visit the area next to the lighthouse of Portofino. The view is breathtaking. I strongly recommend avoiding warm weather.

Very beautiful place, although it was very warm the road is overgrown and largely obscured by vegetation. Beautiful views definitely recommend !

A pretty cool spot overlooking the edge of the Mediterranean. The walk is pretty long and views are okay, but can be too far for some.

Sights & Landmarks
Castello Brown, a 1557 castle turned museum and event venue, offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its art and antiquities. The castle is surrounded by a lush Italian garden and boasts stunning views of the bay. From its terrace, guests can take in panoramic views of Portofino, making it a must-see attraction in the area.
Insta: @planterik If you’re visiting Portofino and want to escape the touristy crowds for a bit, climbing up to Castello Brown is an absolute must. Once you make it up the steps, you’re greeted by a charming historic castle with incredible panoramic views of the harbor and the open sea. And the best part? It’s only €5 to enter, and totally worth it. We went before noon and it was surprisingly quiet—even on a weekend. No queues, no crowds—just peace and beautiful scenery. The castle itself is cool inside (literally—air conditioning in summer is a win), and there’s a lovely little café with a terrace offering amazing views. Prices were super reasonable too: €2 for a croissant and €4 for an iced latte. There are no discounted tickets for students, kids, or seniors, but honestly, the views alone make it a great value. Every corner offers a new breathtaking photo op. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Portofino. It’s a peaceful break from the bustle and gives you a fresh perspective—literally and figuratively.
Erik E — Google review
The best place to enjoy Portofino's stunning views is from here. It's a 15-20 minute uphill walk. Entry costs 8 euros per person. There's also a small cafe inside. You can reach it by following the pier or the church.

This place was better then expected. My wife and I were on a cruise and did not book an excursion. We got off and walked over, paid 16 euros and were delighted with the views. It’s a little hike that would be difficult for people with mobility issues but it’s worth the effort!

Bit of a climb, but an amazing view! You can go inside, but nothing special. Just right for 8 euros entrance. We also sat on the terrace, witch had some Black Eyed Peas ambiance. Very fitting, haha.

Very nice place to visit, wonderful view on sea and Portofino town. The castle is a silent witness to famous visitors from the world of cinema of the 60s and 70s and you will find numerous photographs of them in the halls of the permanent exhibition organized here.

The views are nice and the castle history is interesting. It's also a nice walk through a nature area. A walk to the lighthouse from there is ok, and there's a basic café.

Chiesa di San Giorgio, located in Portofino, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the town and the sea. To avoid crowds, visitors can take a scenic hike up to the church through an inclined road or stairs. The church itself has a modern exterior and a traditional interior, situated on a hill with stunning scenery along the way. For an even more secluded experience, guests can continue their ascent to Brown Castle for unparalleled vistas of Portofino from its terrace.
The Chiesa di San Giorgio (1760) and adjacent Castello San Giorgio occupy a ridge between the sea and Portofino, Italy. A large Catholic cemetery is behind the church which is perched on the edge of rugged cliffs.

Beautiful viewpoint in Portofino! Chiesa di San Giorgio is definitely worth the walk uphill. It takes a bit of effort to get there, but the views are amazing—you can see the town on one side and the sea with rocky cliffs on the other. A peaceful spot with stunning scenery!

We visited Chiesa di San Giorgio early in the morning around 7:30 am after arriving from our cruise ship, and it was such a peaceful experience. With hardly anyone around, we could fully take in the charm and history of this beautiful chapel. It’s a short uphill walk—about 10 minutes from the harbor—but well worth it. Learning about its past and connection to Saint George was fascinating, and the panoramic view overlooking Portofino and the Ligurian Sea was absolutely breathtaking. A must-visit for both history lovers and anyone who appreciates a stunning viewpoint.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio Church in Portofino, Metropolitan City of Genoa, Italy, is open to the public and visitors to go inside. Entrance is generally free. There might be a fee for special events or exhibitions. To reach the church from Portofino’s harbor requires climbing 185 steps; therefore, check for events beforehand. From its hilltop position, the church provides stunning views across Portofino and the harbor. This church sits halfway up the hill leading to Castello Brown. Inside, you can admire frescoes and religious artifacts, and experience the peaceful atmosphere. The church is typically open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. Holy Mass is held on Saturdays at 6:00 pm and Sundays at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm.

Very little church and completely closed for tourists (probably only Sunday masses and that’s it). Why? Why not to open it up for all those tourists? I really don’t get it. Way most interesting was the cemetery behind the building.

Gelateria Gepi Portofino offers a delightful selection of gelato flavors, including hazelnut, cinnamon, and fig, as well as Italian specialties like cannoli and coffee with whipped cream. The store provides the option to enjoy your treats on outdoor seating or for take-away. While slightly pricier than other gelaterias in Italy, the quality is top-notch.
We came here every day during our 4 day stay in Portofino. The gelato is amazing, the cappuccino is the best we had in town, and the croissants were super fresh. Friendly staff and great prices too. A must visit.

Best gelato i have ever had. Amazing taste and we wanted to have more. Located near the center just a bit of walking. It was very crowded and also you can use the bathroom which was a plus. Highly recommended and i will definitely go again
Melissa A — Google review
The ice cream is really good and you can tell it’s high quality. One evening we stopped by around eight, when they were almost closing, and a tall, dark-haired girl kindly opened the door for us and served us ice cream — a really nice gesture! The next day, because we had such a good impression, we went back, but unfortunately found another girl, shorter with Asian features, who was rather rude. It’s a pity, because the ice cream is excellent, but the service should always be at the same level.

Believe or not, we had 3 gelato cones a day at this place. It was exquisite. The texture was right, the flavors were great and the price was not crazy regarding the whole Portofino scene. Honestly, pistachio is never overrated and it's the best flavor.

I’m not a huge icecream fan, but I was in Italy’s Porto Fino in 30c heat, so saw this quaint little gelateria and decided to try both the dark chocolate and pistachio flavours .. normally I’m underwhelmed by most icecream parlours try at creating exquisite frozen desserts, but I must say that this truly was exquisite in my opinion .. the dark chocolate was as chocolatey as you will find, luxuriously creamy and full of chocolate sweetness.. the pistachio tastes exactly like what it was. All in all , extremely satisfying even for a non ice cream lover .

Area Marina Protetta di Portofino is a stunning marine reserve in Liguria, offering breathtaking views of rugged cliffs, clear waters, and diverse marine life. The park features well-preserved paths through Mediterranean vegetation leading to panoramic viewpoints and pristine beaches. While popular and catering to visitors with varying budgets, it remains relatively underrated, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers seeking a more secluded experience.
Amazing but underrated place. We haven't met a lot of tourists (which is actually cool). The view is breathtaking. Just take a look at these photos and imagine yourself beeing there. My mind was blown. If you love the nature, I totally recommand !
Jady — Google review
A truly stunning park, on par with the Cinque Terre one, which one cannot avoid visiting during a holiday in Liguria. It comprises several well preserved paths, accurately signalled, which cross typical Mediterranean vegetation and lead to breathtaking panoramic points or beaches with clear water. The places I recommend above all are the war bunkers ('Batterie'), where incredible sunsets over the sea can be admired, the small rocky peninsula of Punta Chiappa, and the ancient abbey and beach in San Fruttuoso, where the famous underwater statue Cristo degli Abissi also is. The park can be reached by the train stations of Camogli or Santa Margherita: some paths start from these two towns, and otherwise it is possible to take a bus to either San Rocco or Portofino or a boat to Punta Chiappa and San Fruttuoso. If it's summer, take a swimsuit (and expect a bit of crowd in the most popular and touristic locations, San Fruttuoso and Portofino, especially on weekends). Refer to the website of the park for a detailed explanation of the paths.

Beautiful and picturesque little port with an even better view from the hills surrounding the port. We've visited Portofino before. In Corona times. And it was busy even then. Now of course it was even busier. But it's a place worth visiting. The town itself is pretty compact and easy to walk. The main attraction and heart of it is of course the Marina with the boats, Yachts and all the colorful buildings. And the Castle sitting on top of the hill, overlooking the Marina. There are some special events sometimes. Like this time. Wine, cheese, meat. All kinds of things to taste and buy right on the Marina. Get a drink in a restaurant or Cafe to watch the world go by. Or bring some picnic with and sit down on one of the many benches around the Marina. This time we left the car in Santa Margherita, where we stayed for a few days and took the bus here and the ferry back. Way better and easier. Parking is limited and expensive. It's best to take the public transportations if possible. Portofino is a pretty town. But don't miss out on Santa Margherita, Lerici or Camogli. All worth a trip.

Beautiful location, lots of shops and restaurants. If you're just there for a little sightseeing, a few hours should do it. Worth the trip, though!

A must visit, best to travel by boat to it. Costs €11 from the other ports. The views are much better from the sea. Traveling by car is not recommend, the bus service is good and cheap but can be crowded.

Portofino maybe small but is such a pretty fishing village with so much to offer. Nice boutiques to look into and plenty of choices of bars & restaurants overlooking the water. You can stay here for the day...chill & watch the world go by or you can catch a boat that can take you to Margharita the next town or village ( however the Italians calls it 😊) to explore..either way both if these coastal towns are worth a visit when the wind takes you in this part of the world. I fully recommend to check these places

Nestled in the heart of Santa Margherita Ligure, the Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure stands as a testament to the town's rich history and stunning coastal beauty. The Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure (1550) at Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, was built by the Genoese to defend against raids by Barbary pirates but that role became redundant in the 18th century when the attacks ceased.

About the castle: Construction began in 1550 and were completed in September of the same year. From the 18th century it lost military importance, thanks above all to the ceased pirate invasions, and therefore received only some repair and maintenance work. About the expedition: Open every Sunday morning from 10:00 to 12:00, even in April. The multimedia exhibition spaces of the 16th century castle of Santa Margherita Ligure tell the story of our sea and our seabed, with talking paintings, touch screens, projections and archaeological finds Entrance fee cost of a few EUR.

Al Faro di Portofino Lounge Bar is a charming and somewhat hidden gem nestled in the beautiful town of Portofino. It's well worth the moderate hike up to the lighthouse, offering a pit stop at this quaint cafe bar with breathtaking views of the Italian Riviera. The staff is friendly, and they serve refreshing drinks like the Portofinese Spritz. While food options are limited, their cocktails are great.

At the end of the walk to the point in Portofino you find this little bar; just in time on a hot day. two versions of it; we went to the second one. A bit busy as you would expect for such a marvellous spot. However as usual a bit of charm and the staff are super helpful. We loved the swordfish with grapefruit and an excellent panini. Well done all !

Amazing seascape and horizontal eternal view! Nice and friendly personnel. It's expensive to drink a coffee or to buy a water, but! we pay for an atmosphere, view, possibility to sit down after a difficult hiking trip there! All worth it! 3 euro per espresso and 3 euro per a bottle of a water.
Arkadiy K — Google review
This is a nice cafe at the end of a fairly long walk. Views over the sea are amazing. The seating area however is small with not enough sun shades. 1 person smoking can affect 3/4 of the seating which, if you don't like breathing in smoke, is not ideal. Menu is reasonable and it's not too expensive, especially considering it's technically Portofino, but you should go here only really expecting a drink or some ice cream (which is generous), not much more.

We visited on a Wednesday and had a really nice time. A bit hidden away from the touristic area the lounge is located and ready to serve some delicious drinks with a great view guaranteed. We had a cold chocolate and a Virgin Mojito. The Mojito was good but mostly made out of ice-cubes, leaving me wanting more. However, we did get olives, chips and nuts to go with it which kinda made up for it. In general it’s a nice romantic place and definitely worth a visit! Kinda bad music tho lol

Avoid this place at all costs. I had a deeply disappointing experience here and would not recommend it to anyone, locals or tourists. I’m Italian, born and raised, currently living in Australia. Yesterday, I visited Portofino with my Australian partner, who doesn’t speak or understand Italian and was visiting Italy for the first time. I was excited to share some fresh Ligurian focaccia and the kind of traditional panini Italy is famous for. We stopped by this bakery hoping to grab a quick bite before heading to the beach. I asked in Italian if they made panini, and a younger staff member confirmed they did. While I was translating to my partner in English, the older lady behind the counter suddenly became extremely rude and aggressive. I politely asked for bresaola, one of the meats we were offered, and that’s when she began abusing me, first in Italian, then in Ligurian dialect (which I understand perfectly). I calmly let her know that I understood every word and asked if she could be a bit kinder, as I was simply trying to order what was already offered. Shockingly, the rudeness continued. She said that making a panino was a huge favor, even though we were paying customers and asked for nothing out of the ordinary and she wasn't even serving us and the bakery has just another client in she was attending to. That gentleman she was serving was very embarrassed meanwhile my partner was very confused since he did not understand a word. In the end, I told her to keep the panino and walked out, completely shocked and embarrassed, especially because this was my partner’s first taste of Italy, and this kind of hostility is not at all representative of true Italian hospitality. It’s incredibly disappointing to be treated with such disrespect in your own country, especially when you're trying to share it with someone you care about. Sadly, Portofino only has 2 bakeries, and perhaps this gives some people the impression they can treat customers however they like. I strongly suggest supporting other local businesses where respect and kindness are still part of the culture. Italian hospitality should be warm, generous, and welcoming. This experience was anything but.

It’s hard to find options in Portofino, so we stopped at this small supermarket. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The selection is limited, everything is seriously overpriced (even for Portofino), and the quality doesn’t justify the cost. The person working there seemed uninterested and unfriendly — not sure why, but it made the atmosphere quite uncomfortable. Only stop here if you really have no other choice.
Amir K — Google review
Terrible service. Only one lady working, glued to her phone the whole time, completely ignoring customers. She forgot to say hello or thank you. Honestly, even a random fast-food place in the U.S. would treat you better. It’s way too expensive for what you get. Hardly any choice on the menu either. Definitely not worth it.

Restaurant
Located in a picturesque setting with both indoor and outdoor seating offering stunning views of the docks and surrounding woods, Strainer is a popular restaurant known for its delectable dishes. The "Strainer Style" shrimps and the "Gerardo Style" sea bass are standout menu items. Visitors praise the attentive staff, including Ivan, William, and Miguel, who provide excellent service. Guests also appreciate the reasonably priced menu options and well-crafted cocktails.
Everything about this place is AMAZING! Gorgeous view, superb service, and some of the best food we have had in Italy! The cheese wheel pasta with truffle was perfect! Be sure to try some of the other dishes too as they are all delicious! We will definitely return.

This was the absolute best experience I've ever had at a restaurant! The most delicious parmesan wheel pasta, quite literally the top number one dish I'll ever have in my life. The absolute BEST atmosphere for a restaurant, right by the water and perfect for any dinner you'll want to book. I fully recommend this place to anyone visiting Portofino and any surrounding towns/city.

This restaurant is hands down one of the best in Portofino. Every dish is exquisitely crafted, offering flavors that are both refined and exceptional. I highly recommend trying the ravioli with lobster—it’s a masterpiece! The truffle pasta is also a must-try, absolutely mouthwatering. In fact, it’s safe to say this place even outshines Dav Mare. An unforgettable dining experience!

Simply overpriced. €16 for an Aperol that was far from worth it. The starters, like the tomato and mozzarella, felt ridiculous for the price and not what was shown in photos or served to other tables. The fish was fine, but overall the quality does not match the cost. The owner wasn't really nice, and the service didn’t feel right for what you pay. Honestly, the bar just across the street treated us much better for the same price.

Every aspect of the evening was amazing. Our hosts took such good care of us and the food was extraordinary. We love Italian food. The from pasta Bolognese made perfectly to mussels in wine sauce and spaghetti vongole... Everything was great. But the crown was the special pasta with truffles made in a parmesan wheel. I've tried this dish at many restaurants, but now I understand why it is such a specialty. Dessert topped it off with tiramisu and a ricotta cake with chocolate sauce. Thank you for the wonderful evening!

Absolutely amazing food. Appetizers were delicious, pasta was fresh and dessert was decadent. Best meal I've had in Italy in 20 visits.

The lobster ravioli was top 5 best meal I’ve ever had. A must try place when visiting Portofino. The chocolate cake melted in my mouth

We had a late dinner. Despite the late time, the owner and the waiters were all very friendly and attentive. They helped us explaining the contents of the dishes and even prepared some dishes custom to our preference. It was a wonderful experience for us. The truffle pasta had an amazing taste. The seabream plate for two people was also quite delicious. The prices were quite high but we knew that this was the normal price range of also other restaurants in this specific and unique location.

DaV Mare is a renowned bar located at Hotel Splendido Mare in Portofino. It's highly recommended for its exceptional cocktails crafted by local mixologists Paolo Gastaldo and Vincenzo D'Amato. The bar offers a variety of unique creations as well as classic favorites.
DaV Mare offers an exceptional dining experience in the stunning setting of Portofino. With a focus on fresh, local seafood, every dish is a masterpiece, beautifully prepared and bursting with Mediterranean flavors. Highlights include the delicate fish dishes and perfectly crafted pastas, all paired with an excellent wine selection. The chic, waterfront atmosphere adds to the charm, making it the ideal spot for a romantic dinner or special occasion. With impeccable service and an unforgettable view, DaV Mare is a true highlight of the Italian Riviera. Stopping by for a lunch is an absolute must!

I think this is one of my favourite restaurants I went to during my trip! Service was exceptional, the waiters were clear professionals and were super kind to us. The food was well presented and absolutely delicious. I loved every single dish from starters to dessert! I also loved how they gave us traditional italian desserts to taste at the end of our lunch. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a wonderful dining experience!

The most incredible restaurant: food, ambience and service was exceptional. The paccheri is served at over £70 in Da Vittorio in Bologna where you get it here for under £40 and it’s incredibly soft, delicious… They granted us a table right at the front of the piazzeta in Portofino and the waiter was so caring and helped suggest other restaurants in the area. Thank you so so much for everything. We will never forget the experience! GRACIAS!

We recently visited Dav Mare in and had their bar menu. Overall, it was an average experience. The fried calamari was unfortunately too salty for our taste, which was disappointing. As for the pizza, it was more like a soggy piece of bread with warm sauce rather than what we expected. However, the burrata was quite nice, both in taste and presentation. On a positive note, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, which made our visit more pleasant. Additionally, the bathroom was very clean, which is always appreciated. While some aspects of our meal could be improved, the welcoming atmosphere and cleanliness were definite highlights.

I didn't see if DaV has any Michelin stars, but they should. Great service with table-side presentations. The meal started with a delicious amuse bouche from the chef (ours was a little pie-like pastry filled with a shrimp mousse and some pesto). For my meal I had the pasta with pesto, and for dessert I had strawberry ice cream with fresh strawberries and pineapple, both dishes were delicious. At the end of the meal the pastry chef came around with a cart and filled complementary little sugar cones with a vanilla creme and presented those and various sweet petit fours for us to enjoy. A top-notch meal with top-notch service.

I was too skeptical when my sister insisted in going to this place (I mean we were gonna break the bank cuz it was a five start hotel restaurant). We decided to try out the breakfast instead of dinner (after rescheduling for the 3rd time, the staff was very accommodating). The price tag may seem high but it was so worth for me. We got eggs, toast and some pastries. The presentation and pastry selection met the expectation. We laughed so hard when more pastries just kept coming. The hot chocolate was good. Coffee latte was decent. They even served bread with butter and jams on the side for breakfast which was insane. Service 10/10. Very attentive and supportive. I did not regret having brunch there.
