Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport

3.3
(24750)
International airport
Airport
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, named after the local engineer and Nobel laureate, is conveniently located just 4 miles from the center of Bologna. It offers direct flights to various European cities as well as internal flights within Italy. The airport has excellent transport connections, with a bus departing for Bologna every 11 minutes.
A small cozy and comfortable airport with a very good lounge, not too much to offer, but comfortable to sit around. Have a nice coffee, some croissant, some wine, a very close fast track area.
Ashish A — Google review
Was very disorganized and ill equipped to handle complications such as flight delay and cancellation. We were placed in the hallway to the plane that was uncomfortably hot (33+ degrees outside) for about thirty minutes with no communication. There were many families that had to sit down in the ground with their children because it was like a green house in there. The helpdesk lady didn't speak much English, which was frustrating when our SAS flight to Copenhagen was suddenly canceled and we wanted information. The staff aren't the most polite, but that might just be an Italian culture thing, as I'm used to more delicate customer care. The area past security was very packed, so it MIGHT be smarter to go through security closer to your departure instead of 3 hours before, like we did. There was an area with a crazy line because they weren't using the dividers properly, but they got very upset when I tried to film the line.
Nathan S — Google review
I had an early flight and discovered that after midnight, there’s no public transport from the main train station to the airport except taxis. So, we took the last Marconi Express to the airport. Unfortunately, the waiting area was far from comfortable—no cozy chairs to rest in, and the existing seats were deliberately designed with fixed armrests to prevent passengers from lying down. There’s no lounge available either, and in this situation, I’d have gladly paid for a comfortable spot to relax for a few hours. Overall, it was a dreadful experience with poor service. I hope to never repeat it.
Farnaz H — Google review
Nice airport. Sufficient food and drinks options. Behind security there are many shops. Airport is open 24/7. When traveling from the direction of Lippo there is no pedestrian walkway and you must take a bus or taxi. Good connections to city center.
Pascal W — Google review
We arrived at the airport late like 1am. The taxi queue is long however it is still possible to get a taxi if you wait. You can also use Uber. It was about €37 from the airport to somewhere near Bologna Centrale station. There are water fountains after passport check. On our way out, we saw a carrefour so it should be quite convenient.
J. Q — Google review
You can check my profile. I've traveled a lot, and I've never been in a worse airport than this one. There's just not enough space for all the people they are cramming into this place and not only that, the air conditioning is inexistent. It's not only claustrophobic and suffocating but I think it's simply not even safe. I'm thirsty and it's impossible to buy water in the waiting area next to the gates due to the excess of people lining up on every store. There's no space to sit. I ended up having to sit on the floor next to security. Never come here.
Manu C — Google review
I wish I could give -5/5 AND PLEASE TAKE A TAXI if you can!!!! My rating is solely focused on the god awful monorail - Marconi Express! They charge 25 euros for 2 people and provide BUSES. Then there is a person who just makes you buy the ticket without any explanation for how much the ticket is and how long it will take for the bus to come. Then the horror continues because every bus obviously cannot hold as many people as the train can, so you wait for at least 45 minutes in a line along with the sun burning you and the flies sitting on you. Buses do NOT have enough seats. Do yourself a favor and pay for a taxi! Which we also tried to do but these TPer tickets are NOT refundable, in anyway possible - their website literally recommends you to take another means of transportation if you have an appointment somewhere, just awful! Overall just don't arrive at this airport if you want to visit Bologna. It's not possible to reach the city with their horrible connection. EDIT: the replacement bus is single most squeaky bus I have ever taken in Europe, and it is as shaky as an Auto-Rikscha in Asia (see attached video) PLEASE TAKE A TAXI if possible 🙏🙏🙏

Europcar Bologna Airport

3.5
(715)
Car rental agency
When it comes to car rentals, Europcar stands out as a reliable choice for travelers seeking convenience and quality service. With competitive pricing starting around 30 per day, they also offer attractive discounts for longer rental durations. Many customers have praised the helpfulness of their staff, particularly at airport locations where assistance is readily available. For those exploring scenic areas like Fanano, Europcar provides an excellent option for renting vehicles that allow you to soak in the beautiful countryside at your own pace.
I would like to thank the company, and specifically Roberto, for their help. I had a bad experience with another company, and I was left in Italy without a car, which could have ruined my plans. But I found Roberto, and he listened very carefully to my request and offered the best option out of all the companies at Bologna Airport. He found the right car and explained everything in great detail! I recommend renting a car from them! Thank you, Roberto!
Aigerim K — Google review
It started nice with a charming welcome and friendly conversation in good English... and then it went South... as my flight arrived late and baggage claim took a bit longer than expected I have shown up at the Europcar counter at 23:05, while I was supposed to rent at 23:00. Now, as they are closing at 23:00 normally, I was thankful that they waited for me as they knew my flight number. But charging 36 EUR service fee for 5 min waiting appears a bit on the high end, to phrase it friendly.... anyway, my employer will need to pay it... after walking to the car I found it in this narrow parking garage (well, it's Italy, all rental car companies are in this narrow parking garage...) and it wasn't very clean, actually quite dirty in the inside... but which annoyed me most, was the warning right away when turning on the car that AdBlue is missing and aftrr 276km I won't be able to drive anymore. This message will have popped up since the last 3000km, so why on earth didn't someone at Europcar refill AdBlue at some stage??? I guess they want me to do that and pay for the AdBlue other people used?! Incredibly disappointing...
M Q — Google review
Hiring cars is always a little nerve wracking and can be unpleasant but this was great! The staff spoke fluent English, were super friendly and helpful. The desk was located in the terminal which makes a change, although it was about a 5 minute walk to the car. I got a free upgrade on the car, which was clean inside and out but it did smell of smoke in there but that was only minor. Genuinely a very pleasant experience and I would recommend choosing Europcar when visiting!
Ian — Google review
Avoid at all costs as it is not a reliable service!!They charged an amount of 40€ for supposed damage two months after the rent when there was no such thing. It is so difficult to communicate with the company so that you are tempted to say never mind I’ll pay for the 40 euro. The car had not been cleaned when we got there. Should have requested for a refund in the first place. It will save you time money and peace to select another car hire company.
Eleni P — Google review
Worst Europcar experience ever. Due to travel delays, we arrived just a couple of hours late to pick up the car we had reserved. The whole point of a reservation is to guarantee the car will be there when you arrive — that’s the very nature of a reservation. But Europcar gave our car away and only offered us a much worse vehicle in poor condition at a higher price. This completely destroyed my trust in Europcar’s reliability. If a reservation doesn’t mean the car will actually be there, what’s the point of booking in advance?
P T — Google review
The car was not clean when I picked it up. I would appreciate more attention to cleanliness for a better customer experience.
Mehmet K — Google review
I am very disappointed with the overall experience. The service completely lacked any standard or professionalism. What was advertised and promised was very misleading — the actual service was nowhere near the quality expected, especially considering the premium price charged. The car seats for children were in poor condition, clearly old and unsafe, which is unacceptable. Charging extra for such low-quality, poorly maintained equipment is unreasonable and misleading to customers who expect safety and reliability. Overall, the experience left me feeling frustrated and deceived. I would strongly advise others to be cautious before booking with this company until they improve their standards and transparency.
SAGA — Google review
Unpleasant and discriminatory experience I had at Europcar branch in Bologna on 14 October at around 8:00 AM. When I arrived to collect my reserved vehicle, your staff member refused to proceed with my rental, claiming that I needed an international driving permit. This was highly surprising, as I have rented from Europcar and other international rental companies many times before without ever being asked for such a document. My national driver’s license has always been accepted without issue. What was most troubling, however, was the staff member’s behavior. After seeing my Albanian passport, his attitude became noticeably rude and dismissive. I strongly believe that his refusal to provide me the vehicle was motivated not by company policy, but by prejudice based on my nationality. This experience was deeply disappointing and made me feel discriminated against. I request that Europcar investigate this incident seriously. Such behavior does not reflect the professionalism or respect that customers expect from a global company like yours.

Rocca di Vignola, also known as the Fortress, is a significant symbol of the town and was built in 1963. It's open to visitors during specific times and offers free entry. The castle is a popular attraction and is considered very photogenic. While it may be slightly damaged, it still holds historical significance and is worth a visit. Visitors can enjoy a free guided tour by booking in advance on their website.
It's always a pleasure that you come back home for your family and take some time to look to the Castle.... Is a piece of soul I take in London and around the world with me always . Tornare a casa e prendere del tempo per andare a vedere la Rocca... Riscalda sempre il cuore.

Awesome castle with great artwork. Super fun to tour and immerse in the colors and pictures. Great opertunity and a must stop if in the area and have time. They do close for a mid -day period (like a lot of places), but if you wind up in. That gap, the Castello Restaurant across the street is a great stop for a bite and a caffe while you wait for them to open back up.

Vignola is a quaint little town near Modena worth visiting. A nearby public parking lot is perfect starting point for the tour of old town. Vignola castle is a must visit. An imposing castle is free to enter and very photogenic. There was quite a crowd on our visit on saturday. I enjoyed walking the old streets more than visiting the castle, I guess you get quickly spoilt in this part of Italy with many historic sites in bigger cities.

With an inviting atmosphere that blends modern design with historical elements, it offers a warm and stylish setting to enjoy your food.
Great food, tasty, good value, right across the street from the castle. Eat here before or after touring the castle, they will not disappoint. Great staff, fast service, good food and fair prices right next to an attraction. What's not to love? Certainly worth a stop!

OK place but make sure you confirm your order. The pinsa and pizza were fine but somewhat overhyped in other reviews and personally my risotto was way too salty for me. Another issue I had hinted in the beginning of my review was I received the wrong dish but to be fair I was wearing a mask and didn't speak very clearly. I like the fact that there is an Italian and English menu which is very convenient.

Found this place by accident when looking for somewhere to celebrate my birthday. All the other restos were closed or full, but we got here 20 mins before the kitchen closed. The waiter was wonderful - kind, friendly and very accomodating. The food was fantastic! We were very happy to find not just pizza on the menu, but tuna carpaccio, fried shrimps and calamari and a fantadtic mushroom risotto (not al dente like lots of places). Highly recommended. Great for quick pizza or nice meal. Very reasonable too.

Northern Italian restaurant
Osteria Di Rubbiara is a casual restaurant located in a serene countryside, just a short drive from Modena city. The Pedroni family, known for producing traditional and commercial balsamic vinegar as well as nocino liqueur, offers an unforgettable dining experience. Visitors can savor dishes like ricotta tortellini with butter and balsamic, paired with their own pale pink Lambrusco.
We had lunch there with our wine suppliers. What shall I say? It's absolutely stunning, I am a big fan of the Manitoban kitchen but this blew me away.......

Wow!! The pastas here are simply extraordinary. Freshly made, perfectly cooked and unforgettable. The Nonna’s ragù was hands down the best ragù I’ve ever had, and I’ve had hundreds across Italy and the U.S. and nothing comes close. The tortelloni was out of this world. This was not just a meal, it was an experience. The restaurant has been open since 1862, and you can feel the history and tradition in every bite. The location is peaceful, quiet, away from the city and surrounded by beauty. It feels like stepping into something truly special. This place deserves national recognition. An incredible lunch and an unforgettable memory. Highly, highly recommend. And absolute must visit if you’re in the area.
Carly M — Google review
I had high hopes for this restaurant because of the history and it being a balsamic vinegar maker. I appreciated the idea of using balsamic vinegar in various food and I absolutely loved adding balsamic vineger to tortellini (I will forever be doing that). But the dishes were inconsistent. The pork ribs are delicious. The vegetable flan had flavors that didn't mix well. The lambrusco chicken was overly salty. Tortellini without the balsamic vinegar is bland. I love the balsamic vinegar on ice cream but the ice cream itself is flavorless without the vinegar. Overall I like the balsamic vinegar from this place which i bought a bottle and I learned more uses of the vinegar which I'm grateful for. I don't regret trying it but probably won't return again
Peihsuan T — Google review
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. Having the balsamic vinegar from the Acetaia itself was a lovely treat, especially with the icecream. We had gnocco fritto, vegetable flan, tortellini, ragu and chicken cooked in Lambrusco. All tasty and good value. Recommend reserving a table - it’s popular!
Roberta E — Google review
We had a lovely meal this evening at this rustic, traditional restaurant. We chose the tortellini followed by the chicken in lambrusco and the pork in balsamic. Both dishes so flavoursome. The service was outstanding. We had a beautiful dinner and would recommend this place to others

La Botte Pizzeria Bar is a delightful spot located on Corso di Sestola, nestled in the heart of a pedestrian area. Known for its light and digestible pizzas, this charming eatery offers an impressive selection of flavors, including standout combinations like lard and leeks. (Translated by Google) The Pizzeria La Botte in Sestola is a simple place and you are looked after by helpful and courteous people. The pizza can be chosen in a "traditional" way or on a cutting board which is lighter, more digestible and crunchier. Furthermore, it can be requested with more than one flavor to appreciate the different proposals. One piece of advice I would like to give is to offer draft beer at a lower temperature. The restaurant is located in the pedestrian area of Sestola and I recommend you book in advance due to the high turnout.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Monte Cimone, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Avis. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Mountain peak
Monte Cimone is a majestic 2,165-meter mountain that offers breathtaking views and features a ski resort as well as hiking routes. The climb to the top can be challenging but rewarding, with stunning panoramic vistas awaiting those who make the effort. For a more luxurious stay, consider booking one of the Superior rooms which boast elegant antique-style furniture and Art Deco elements. Additionally, visitors can take the cable car from Passo del Lupo for a more gentle ascent.
Very nice hike indeed.

The mountain is stunning but the place is littered with human structures. Those that are long not in use should be removed so nature can reclaim these spaces. Beautiful meadows with flowers and insects. Also found a small swarming colony of honey bees.

What a fight to get to the top! For.me this was a hard constant slog to reach the top. 2165m which is around 7150ft on foot and the closer to the top the harder the climb. Great for endurance training and the views make it worth every step.

The botanical garden Giardino Esperia Club Alpino Italiano is a remarkable location with an exceptional team that is always prepared to elucidate the marvels of plant science. Visitors can observe numerous types of blossoms and foliage not only from the Appennines and Alps, but also originating from diverse nations and continents. The garden provides sightings of various pollinators such as bees, dragonflies, and newts. Additionally, patrons have the opportunity to purchase plants at incredibly low prices.

(Translated by Google) Not a garden but the most important botanical garden in the Apennines thanks to the CAI, opened 70 years ago. Very well maintained, with an external path among beech and fir trees, and an important variety of plants and flowers as well as a small pond and a peat bog. Also interesting for those who love insects, beetles and butterflies... the many flowers offer them an inviting banquet. You don't pay entry but you can make a free donation which I think is more than deserved. The view is truly dreamlike, you can admire the entire valley from the garden in front of the entrance and above all from the internal tower. We bought tickets for the guided tour around noon. The guide, a very expert gentleman, provided us with a lot of historical-artistic details about the place, allowing us to fully appreciate the richness of the site. The anecdotes are interesting and I would recommend the visit! A small pearl in our Apennines. When it comes to car rentals, Avis stands out among popular providers like Europcar and Hertz. With rental prices beginning at approximately $30 per day, travelers can find great deals, especially for extended rentals. For those looking to soak in the stunning landscapes around Fanano, consider opting for a bicycle rental as an alternative way to explore the charming countryside. Whether you choose Avis or a bike, adventure awaits!
As ever, very easy pick up and drop off. Car had some extra damage which we took photos off and at drop off once they saw the photos they updated their notes. Very friendly and helpful staff.

A total scam! DO NOT RENT HERE!!! On February 5 2025 I rented a car (supposedly a Hyundai 10) through booking.com. My flight landed at 11pm, I was at the Avis counter around 11.30. The employee gave me the keys for a Fiat 500 and told me to take pictures of the car before starting it because it had some damages and send them to their email address. I arrived at the parking lot (it's like a 10 minutes walk from the airport), found the car (they don't tell you the parking number... you gotta find it yourself!), took pictures of the huge scratches it had (see attached pictures) and sent them right away. I used the car for a week and returned it on February 12 around 3am as planned with them, then dropped the keys off at their drop off box inside the airport. Took my flight to Frankfurt and while boarding from there to San Francisco they sent me an email saying that I damaged the car and they already charged me 1555usd for the damage. I had to call my bank and dispute the charge and also sent them again the pictures I took. Finally they answered me saying they are gonna refund me... in 20 business days... I'm glad I took pictures otherwise I'd be scammed by these thieves. Still waiting for the refund btw. Hope this is helpful! Update 02/20/2025: the company refunded me part of the amount, keeping 33usd... I wonder how much money these scumbags do per year doing this scam, pretending to refund you and keeping a small amount (compared to the whole sum). Being the office in an international airport, I suppose they found a great way to make money illegally. I proceeded to dispute the lacking amount with my bank in the US. Update 02/21/2025: after disputing the remaining amount with my bank, I have been fully refunded. Very bad experience. Update 03/17/2025: the remaining 60+dollars were refunded by my bank, not by Avis. I just realized that, so basically they kept those money and will deal with my bank now.

I am writing to you to dispute a damage charge applied to my rental car returned at Bologna Airport on October 14, 2025. According to your invoice, I was charged EUR 226.86 for "chipping/cracking windshield" and "vehicle downtime". I did not cause any damage to the car. (I have plenty of videos and photos to prove this). According to the attached photos, the windshield is intact. A very unserious company, avoid renting cars from this company. As can be seen from the other reviews, it seems that I am not the only one who has this problem with this company! I also have no one to contact from this company. No one answers the phone number in the contract, I don't have WhatsApp, as I was told when renting the car that I could send pictures and videos of the car's condition on WhatsApp.
Sebastian M — Google review
Very bad experience with Budget Bologna Airport! I booked and paid for a car through Rentalcars, but Budget refused to give me the vehicle because my Greek paper driving licence (from an EU country!) is written only in Greek. This is completely absurd — Greece is part of the EU, and the licence is valid across all EU countries. The staff member was rude, loud, and totally unprofessional. I was stuck for over two hours with my two-year-old child and my fiancée, and nobody offered any help. When my fiancée politely asked if she could at least tell us where to catch the bus to the city, she just laughed at us. Unacceptable behaviour for any customer service employee. Even worse: I have rented a car from Budget in Germany with the exact same licence – without any issue at all! How can the same company treat EU citizens differently in another EU country? ❌ Terrible service, rude staff, no respect for customers. Never again Budget in Italy!
Dimitrios I — Google review
Absolutely Unacceptable Service — Rent at Your Own Risk. I wish I could give zero stars! I’m writing this review to warn others about the utter incompetence and lack of accountability displayed by Avis Budget. Our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. The vehicle we rented broke down — inconvenient enough — but the real disaster began when we discovered that, due to the company’s failure to register the car with the roadside assistance provider, we were left stranded with no help whatsoever. For three entire days, we were forced to find and pay for our own transportation out of pocket because this company could not provide a replacement vehicle in a timely manner. We spent hours on hold with customer service, only to be told repeatedly that they “couldn’t help us” and that we needed to call the roadside assistance company ourselves. When we did, roadside assistance told us they couldn’t help either — because the vehicle was never even registered with them! It was only after we took yet another taxi to a Budget/Avis office that someone finally fixed the error. But even then, roadside assistance didn’t come for the vehicle until the next day. Only then were we finally able to get a replacement car — after wasting three days, countless hours on the phone, and paying out of pocket for taxis to get around. To add insult to injury, we’ve received zero compensation for the taxi fares we racked up or for the days we paid for a rental car we couldn’t use. It’s completely unreasonable to expect customers to foot the bill for your negligence and still pay full price for a service that was never delivered. This was an embarrassing failure of basic customer service and operational competence. If you value your time, money, or sanity, avoid Budget/Avis at all costs. I strongly urge the company to take responsibility, reimburse us for the additional costs we incurred, and issue a refund for the days we were left without the vehicle we paid for. Until then, I’ll continue to share this experience to warn others.

AVIS-maggiore-BUDGET SCAM COMPANY! Worst car rental experience ever. They withdraw money from your account without any justification, and even with full insurance, they invent damage claims to get more money. Completely untrustworthy — avoid at all costs!
Mert A — Google review
Long queue. Only one person at the counter. Very long time to do the paperwork. Car with a lot of damages, not very well washed, difficult to detect scratches and small damages. Had to pay ~€300 upon return by a "new damage" size of a 1EUR coin on the front spoiler.
Pedro F — Google review
Do NOT go there! They accuse you of damaging the car, even though it's clearly noted on the rental papers that the damage was already there. The rental goes from single to double. Moreover they send and invoice of a certain amount, and they take more on the account than what the invoice specify ! From 660€ to 770€ for what reason ? No idea, they say nothing. Just stealing money as if there was no law in Italy. And it is impossible to contact them. They do everything they can to dodge calls and they take months to respond to mails. Message for you Avis : give me a real phone number that I can call to have a discussion about this unacceptable situation.

Antica Trattoria Ponte Guerro is a delightful surprise for travelers, offering delicious and reasonably priced food. The unpretentious eatery is crowded but the local dishes are incredibly good, accompanied by a nice selection of local wines. The staff is attentive and polite, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the restaurant provides safe parking and clean facilities including large rooms with showers operated by digital keys.
This is my first time to this restaurant/Truckstop, and I’ve not been disappointed! The food was absolutely delicious, and reasonably priced I had one beer, 4 courses a Limoncello and Espresso for €27.50! Showers are operated by a digital key that you top up in the wall slot, insert the key next to the shower and the water turns on, they are accessible throughout the night large and very clean rooms. Parking overnight was very quiet with refrigerated trailers turned off I had a good night sleep and I’ve just had a nice lunch. I will be sharing this gem with our other drivers, and I will be visiting here again when down collecting in Bologna.
