Amusement park
Movie Park, located in Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany, is a popular amusement park with a movie theme. Divided into seven Hollywood-themed zones such as Hollywood Street Set and Nickland, the park offers a variety of family-friendly and thrilling rides, live shows, mazes, and audiovisual attractions based on famous movies and TV shows. Visitors can enjoy 4D cinema experiences like Ice Age or explore mazes inspired by The Walking Dead using real sets from the show.
We were a group of five visiting Movie Park Germany on a public holiday, and we arrived around noon. Before entering, there was a thorough security check, which I found very reassuring—it made me feel safe throughout the entire day in the park. Inside, you can find a variety of restaurants, snack stands, and sweet stalls offering treats such as crêpes, churros, gummy bears, fries, and pizza slices. There are also plenty of restrooms located conveniently around the park. Movie Park Germany is a fantastic destination for families with young children, but also for groups of friends or adults looking for excitement. The park features several roller coasters, ranging from family-friendly rides to adrenaline-filled thrill rides like Star Trek: Operation Enterprise, which even launches you backward, and Van Helsing’s Factory, a dark ride coaster with sharp turns. The safety measures on all attractions are excellent, and staff are very attentive. Since we visited during the Halloween Horror Festival, we booked two of the horror houses: The Hell House and Blood Moon: The Trailer House. Both experiences were intense, immersive, and absolutely worth the extra cost. The Halloween theming across the park was very detailed and atmospheric, with actors, decorations, and special effects adding to the experience. The only downside was that the groups in the horror houses were admitted too close together, which sometimes broke the illusion and caused a bit of crowding inside. One thing to note is the parking situation: there is no payment machine directly in the parking lot. You need to purchase your parking ticket inside the park before returning to your car. As the distance between the parking area and the park entrance is not very short, it’s definitely easier to buy the ticket in advance before heading back. Overall, Movie Park Germany is a great choice for a fun day out, whether you love thrill rides, entertaining shows, or seasonal events like Halloween.

Very nice themed park. My kids (8, 12 and 18years old) all had a great day with the rides and shows. Not completely five stars though. The drinks are quite expensive. The food is reasonably priced. So a tip is to bring your own drinks. Further more, all rides close half an hour before closing time and some only open at 11 even though the park is open at 10. But all in all a great day out. The park is not very big in lay-out, so it is easy to go from one place to the other. Also the waiting times are not ridiculously long as in other parks.
Dave G — Google review
We had purchased the tickets at a discounted price of 29€ and visited on Saturday. We reached early at the opening time and were lucky to not face long queues at most rides. Best thing about this amusement park is that it has rides for all age groups so no one feels left out and most of the rides are super fun. We loved it to the bits and would happily visit it again.
Sweta K — Google review
Make sure you buy your tickets online and not at the gate as you’ll save about €20. Had a great day, did lots of attractions in only a few hours. Studio tour the ride was our favourite with some great theming and effects. It’s a fun park but for someone who’s done many Disney and Universal studios parks it lacks a little in its up keep but I don’t think that’s the parks fault but likely down to the guests as some of the details in the ques look quite worn down.
Cieran B — Google review
Very nice theme park in Germany. We been there with my colleagues last spring. Its not so big place but the attractions were compact and you can go in every rides for whole day. Its not also crowded and you dont need to wait for long lines to go in every attractions Also the rides are exciting and fun.
Cheryll C — Google review
We had a family trip to the movie park. It was an amazing experience. Suitable for all ages. We were. Group of adults, a 5 years old, and a 10 years old. Everyone had an activity suitable for their age. From breathtaking rollercoasters, to family shows, to kids plays. The best thing was that we didn't need to stand hours long on the queue for each ride. Highly recommend!
Lara B — Google review
This is the best adventure experience I’ve ever had in my life so far. No words to express my excitement and joy. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to go there someday soon again.
Kalpani K — Google review
I went on a Sunday with my boyfriend and, even though it was full, it was an wonderful experience! I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks because everything is very expensive here. One suggestion - put the maximum heights in ALL the attractions. My boyfriend is 2,06m tall and he found, sometimes after waiting 45 minutes in line, that he couldn’t fit the attraction cars (even though they didn’t have a maximum height published at the entrance).

Freizeitpark Schloß Beck is a charming amusement park located in the Kirchhellen-Feldhausen district in Bottrop, Germany. Situated within the grounds of a Baroque stately home dating back to the 1760s, this park offers a delightful experience for families with younger children. The historic Schloss Beck serves as an elegant backdrop for the theme park, providing a unique setting for visitors to explore.
Greate place for family with a children (we have a 3 years old daughter). She was allowed to go to the all attractions. Except 3 or 4. Thre are a lot of attentions which are interesting for adults as well. You can change 1 euro coins at the enter and also get a map of the park. Unfortunately boats and catamarans do not operate. Most likely due to the fact that the lake is drying up and there is little water in it.
Vladyslav Z — Google review
We had an amazing time at Schloss Beck! It is large enough for the kids to have a fun day and small ebough to let the kids run around without having to stay on top of them. The nature path in the back was a lovely surprise! We will be back!

It is a good park to spend a day with children. There are different rides and boating available for all to enjoy.Every ticket at the entrance costs around 14 Euro then all the rides are inclusive. You don’t have to pay extra for the rides.
Malini S — Google review
Great place to visit with kids between 3 and 9 years old. It s an older parc but your kids wil love it. Dont expect exiting things to do for adults its an amusement parc for your kids. Prices for food are not too expensive. The food you can get is all very basic. Parking costs you 1€.

Freizeitpark Schloss Beck is a small amusement park that's a perfect day out for the whole family. It's a cosy place with really friendly staff! Definitely recommended if you have a family with kids!
Coasterfreak 4 — Google review
I recommend it for family with young children, no crowd on weekdays. Adults can go on rides with kids which makes it ideal if kids are scared/reluctant to try. There is even small lake to go boating.
Manoj T — Google review
Well worth the price! Paid 64€ for 2 adults and 4 kids , The park itself was really good in my opinion, quite a lot of self service rides which could be potentially dangerous in my opinion especially when you have parents that dont care what there kids do. The staff i met where friendly and helpful. The price is 100% good for this park , brilliant for small children.

Nestled in the charming northern region of Bottrop, Gasthof Berger is a delightful 18th-century restaurant that seamlessly blends tradition with gourmet cuisine. Located conveniently near the Feldhausen train station and close to the borders of Dorsten, Gladbeck, and Gelsenkirchen, this establishment boasts a picturesque garden that invites relaxation. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for families as well; children can enjoy a safe play area designed with soft turf flooring.
Real traditional German restaurant with top service and amazing ambient (garden and the terrace are so beautiful). They don't have so much things on the menu but the food is very tasty. It seems that their specialty are traditional cakes. They have many of them and they all look amazing and very tasty. We tried “Sahne Schokolade“. It was perfekt! The coffee was also great!

Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is a former metalworks site in the Meiderich district of Duisburg, Germany that has been transformed into a public park. The landscape architect Peter Latz preserved the industrial structures such as blast furnaces and chimney stacks, integrating them into the park's design.
Public park, has a lot of magnificent things to see, î visited mostly because Im a Hunger games fan and some parts where filmed there for The ballad of songbirds and snakes. They also filmed Sunrise on the reaping there. But in general it’s a beautiful place to visit, just walk around, take pictures, enjoy. There might even be some events finding place there, when I was there there was a street food festival

I recently visited Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and was completely amazed by how an old steel factory was transformed into such a creative and inspiring public space. The combination of industrial ruins, greenery, and open access made it feel like walking through a giant outdoor museum. Climbing up the old blast furnace was a highlight – the view over the Ruhr area is fantastic! I also loved how peaceful it was despite being such a popular spot. The lighting at night is magical and gives the whole park a completely different vibe. This is a perfect spot for photographers, families, history lovers, or just anyone who enjoys exploring unusual places. And it’s free! Highly recommended if you're in the area.

It's a huge public park full of factories, machines, an old railway, a theater and a windmill. It just show you the history of The industrial part of the country. It's a great place for photos and sports since You'll walk a lot and climb many stairs. You can ride a bike or walk your dogs too. There's a small cafe at the entrance and some public bathrooms.

Landschaftspark Duisburg is an amazing place to visit. It is a former industrial site turned into a beautiful park. The old steel structures look impressive, especially when lit up at night. There are many activities like climbing, walking, and exploring the old factory buildings. The park is well-maintained and has great photo spots. It is perfect for families, friends, and photographers. I had a wonderful time and would love to visit again.
Mohammad A — Google review
One of the most extraordinary things I've visited. You can walk from the bottom right up to the top of one of the blast furnaces, stopping at various levels to see how it worked. The views from the top are incredible. There is no fixed route and we just wandered around, but if you wanted an order to it, start from behind the gas tank and head for the bunkers, where you'll "find" the walkway which takes you along them, to the bottom of the visitable blast furnace. There isn't much signage, but actually that's one of the nice things about this place.
Georgina F — Google review
Day is good for if you want to climb up to the top of the factory, night for the light and spooky vibe, the evening is great for the view, i like the iron slide they have for children and adult.
Huỳnh T — Google review
Amazing recreation area. Good place to explore the industrial history of Duisburg. An amazing place to make photos or just to get in touch with the steelmaking process. A little foodtruck is nearby. Plenty of parking space

Lovely place to walk around. There are signs to explain the different structures left from when it was a factory. Sunset from blast furnace #5 is so pretty.

SEA LIFE Oberhausen is a family-friendly aquarium with over 5,000 marine creatures housed in tanks totaling two million liters of water. The main highlight is the largest shark tank in Germany, featuring black tip reef sharks and rays visible from an underwater tunnel. A new turtle exhibit opened in 2017, offering insights into different species' habitats, evolution, diet, and behavior. Located just a short drive from downtown Essen, it's a perfect stop for families or anyone interested in marine life.
A pleasant experience to do alone or with your family. The kids love it, there is an activity for them where they are given a map and have to stamp the various areas they pass through during the visit. Super clean. Lots of interaction, and assistants explain each animal area. Clean and large bathrooms. There are several areas to sit in the middle of the route. You will find a very cute shop at the end. There are also some activities at the end with virtual glasses. And there is a smoking area for those interested. All the staff were super friendly.

A really good place with a lot of aquatic life in both flora and fauna. The whole place was very well maintained and it was a good experience going through the entire setup. Fantastic place to bring kids. The staff personnel were quite helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend it.
SACHIT V — Google review
Was genuinely excited to take our visitors (with a 6 yo child) to this place. We have been to Aqua Zoo in Düsseldorf and was really amazed. So we had high expectations here since it's an international franchise. Cons: - Price of the tickets were a bit more expensive to our liking, considering that a lot of the exhibitions were closed. No otters, no penguins, no seals. - Place could use some sprucing up. Everything felt old. Ambience was depressing, from start to finish. Good thing my niece still appreciated seeing the fish, but the adults clearly saw what was lacking. - Very crowded on a random weekend. I didn't see staff on standby inside to usher people through and engage kids. They could have compensated with the lack of exhibitions with engaged staff that actually talk to the kids. - Limited to vending machines for after snacks options. - I downloaded the app and it was very laggy. Couldn't even identify the fishes properly and were giving wrong data. Very misleading and a waste of time. - No signal throughout the exhibition. It's 2025 folks. - No locker rooms. Prams were left randomly scattered to the side of the reception. Pros: - Staff at front desk seemed to be nice. Although they were clearly exhausted already by 14:00. - They set up some Halloween decoration and were giving away some Haribo. There were stamp stations across the place, but failed in execution as some of them were already missing the stamps. - Very clean bathrooms. - They had a friendly mascot waiting at the end to take photos with. - Nice quality selection of souvenirs, but limited choices. Expensive but that is to be expected. - I heard a staff member inside talking about mussels, it's nice to also have these educational stuff around places like these. Overall, I'm not coming back. I would rather go to Aquazoo or even Krefeld Zoo to see more variety of animals.

I really liked it, especially the Animal Crossing event was fun. Generally the atmosphere was relaxing however it can be packed with people in some areas. I went there at around 4pm and a lot of kids were running around but only at the beginning. Overall it was fun and a wonderful experience.
Mai T — Google review
I really enjoyed my trip here. It's definitely a great place for children but I was visiting a friend and as an adult, I had a great time! Everything is well maintained and beautifully set up. The clean and large bathrooms were a nice surprise as usually in such establishments where lots of children are involved, things can become messy quickly. It should be noted that the staff were very helpful and friendly and even spoke in English when they realised I was an English speaker. I would highly recommend a visit and do be sure to check out the cute shop at the end.
Kimberly M — Google review
We got tickets to Sea Life as part of our hotel stay package. It’s a decent sized aquarium where you walk along a fixed course to see the fish. For the kids there was an Animal Crossing stamp tour which adds a bit of extra excitement to kids running around. Some areas did tend to get crowded but at the entrance they do regulate the number of people that get in at intervals. There are some areas where you’re allowed to touch things which was a fun addition. We did see some people arrive that did not book tickets in advance who got turned around at the entrance because the day was fully booked, so be careful of that.
Akil K — Google review
We really enjoyed the visit with our baby, I recommend buying tickets early!

Tetraeder is a remarkable steel pyramid sculpture located in Bottrop, Germany. Designed by architect Wolfgang Christ, this 60m-high hollow tetrahedron offers breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. The structure features a 387-step internal staircase that coils up to just below its highest point, providing visitors with an engaging experience as they ascend.
Nice place for visit. It’s calm and quiet. You can either walk along the normal path or for some small adventure you can take the steep shortcuts. Imo evenings would be the best time to visit since you get the nice view of the sunset.
Karnan D — Google review
The Halde Tetraeder in Bottrop is a striking steel pyramid perched on a former slag heap—an icon of the Ruhr’s industrial heritage and renewal. Open 24/7 and free to visit, it offers a thrilling climb via stairways and suspended platforms up to 38 m high, with panoramic views stretching from the Ruhr Valley to Düsseldorf on clear days. The platforms gently sway in the wind, adding excitement, while evenings bring magical sunsets and dazzling light installations. Whether for hiking, architecture, or breathtaking vistas, the Tetraeder is one of the Ruhr region’s most unique and rewarding landmarks.
Ujjwal J — Google review
I've seen one of the best sunsets of my life here. There's no entry fee for visiting this structure. It's open to all and open at all times but be cautious as you would have to trek to that place. Access by vehicle is also possible but I would recommend walking up to the point. Sunset from here was so beautiful and calm. No sound pollution what so ever. One side there was sunset filling the sky with colors and on the other side, full moon with non disturbing smoke coming up from a chimney. I was lucky to be visiting exactly that time. Walking trail is also very beautiful. You'll notice the petroleum pipes around the trail. They also add beauty and uniqueness to the place. Highly recommend visiting this place on a weekday in the evenings!

The place is amazing and the view is fantastic. The other visitors are friendly. Just don’t forget to wear sunscreens d a hat on sunny days as there’s hardly any shade there. Also there’s no infrastructure at all (like toilets) so come prepared.

Nice area for a nice breedge. Climb top the triangle thing and eye up the sorrouding of Bottrop. Metal stairs on the way, and an iconic (overhead) bridge would add up some nice photos in your gallery for sure. Make it in the bucket list and hit it for a hike or jogging or some refreshment.

After a ten minute walk up the hill directly by stairs or in circles on a way, you can get to this interesting building. The view from the hill is already stunning. If you get on of the plateaus or even on the top of the Tetraeder, the view get‘s even better. I can really recommend this spot for a walk to enjoy the view and the sound of the Ruhr area.

Franziskaner im Centro in Oberhausen is a charming eatery that beautifully combines natural stone and light wood elements, creating a cozy atmosphere. This restaurant excels in offering a diverse menu featuring Bavarian specialties and regional dishes, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or brunch. Guests can indulge in hearty meals reminiscent of Alpine cuisine, including the famous pork knuckle with its crispy skin and tender meat, as well as traditional favorites like schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn.
Great place in Oberhausen for some Bavarian food. The place is totally decorated with a Bavarian theme and it was very full. I ordered a alcohol free beer and a Schweinehaxen (Pork Knuckle). The pork knuckle was served with baked potatoes. The meat was very tender and tasty, while the skin was very crusty and crispy. It was super delicious! Super recommend!

Excellent local food like gulasch soup or cream patato soup. Traditional sousages with mash patato and cabbage. Pretty crowded and usually full for weekends. Service fast enough, pretty good job they do. Anyway beer to try is obligatory Franziskaner whisse beer as it is apsolute top there. For smokers there is also terrace with gas heaters so even now in November you can enjoy there. Sure this is one of places where we go regularly and will come back again.

Good menu with wide choice of different German dishes. Big plates, nice service and a cozy an warm atmosphere. Took quite some time until dinner was served, but quality was good.
Sander V — Google review
The "Schweinshaxe" (pork knuckle) was perfect imo - super crispy skin with tender meat and a tasty gravy. The Schnitzel was ok, and so was the "Caipirinha", which lacked a bit of lemon and sugar. The waitress didn't speak English at all, but was very experienced and handled all situations well. If the weather allows it you would want to sit outside to have a chat while seeing people passing by. The toilets are upstairs in an area that seemed busy before the pandemics.
Danilo T — Google review
This place was a real treat in respect to getting good Bavarian food and beer in the North Rein. I used to go to another restaurant in Essen but I will definately be back to this one as it is much better. I came in a group of 8 and they were all English speaking people. The wait staff was great anwering any questions the group had as well as providing them English menus. I had the Schweinehaxen (Pork Knuckle) with roast potatoes and it was perfect. The skin was super crisp, the meat was really tender, a fantastic dish with great quality. The Weissbeir, well it's true Bavarian Weissbeir. I've been to the brewery and it did not disappoint. I did try the banana Weissbeir and really enjoyed it. Give it a shot if you want a treat. It's not sweet but a great banana taste added to a really good beer. If you haven't tried it yet and you are in Oberhausen, give it a try you won't be disappointed.

I went on December 29, 2019. Ordered the Veal Schnitzel with hollandaise sauce that was very good. But for dessert we ordered a KAISERSCHMARR‘N that looked gorgeous but when I started eating I found burnt pieces underneath. We told the waiter and he just said he could ask to have another one done, for which we didn’t had time to wait. Despite showing the burnt pieces I did not eat (originally thought that’s how the dessert was) they charged us fir the dessert. Very bad customer service. Do not recommend

Top Atmosphere, delicious Fries. Finally, first time in Germany get hot Curry Sauce with 750000 scoville 👍👍👍 (1-6 level)

Great surprise find. Currywurst by a real chillihead. First time I've seen mad dog 357 on a menu like this! I went for the ghost pepper (jaloka) currywurst and it was crazy hot. Luckily they have great beer to wash it down with and the prices are great too.

for all my English speaking travelers, the food at this restaurant is hands down the best currywurst I have tried. I have traveled to Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, plenty of other cities, and still, this little shop near the Tetraeder sticks out as the most tasty. Worth every penny! Martin is a very nice man, and the location is perfect for a lunch with loved ones! if you are ever near Bottrop, and A42 you must stop here! Thank you martin for the delicious currywurst

The ASH Oberhausen is a vegan-friendly restaurant located in Oberhausen, Germany. It offers an American brunch every Sunday and holiday, making it a great spot for brunch lovers. The restaurant follows the concept of American steak houses, focusing on serving steak in various styles, along with fresh sides and alternative options like burgers or fish dishes. The ambiance is reminiscent of supper clubs from the Prohibition era in the USA.
The rib eye steak was the best. Even the home made ketchup taste wonderfull. Good service nice place and a wonderfull place to dinner

I had pretty good experience in this restaurant in Bremen so I decided to choose the same when I was in Oberhausen. this restaurant has the same design and so on. interiors are not bad, there is a lot of place there, very good toilets. food was good, prices were reasonable. there are though couple of flaws: portion of asparagus was quite small, mashed potato was made from powder. the service was a bit slow, probably because the restaurant slowly became crowded. we also ordered free coffee using coupons from the app, and firstly waiter told us we cannot use two apps. but this problem was quickly solved

We chose the Ash for a family lunch after visiting a nearby Lego experience. While the initial impression was pleasant, it quickly took a dive down. We all ordered burgers and were excited to try them. It took more than an hour to get the burgers delivered to our table. No explanation or excuse was given as to why the service was so slow. We specifically asked for the burgers to be cooked at medium rare, unfortunately they all came extremely well done. I would accept this at a random place but I thought the steakhouse would know the cooking time better. Complaining about it and waiting another hour seemed pointless. My truffle burger has zero taste of truffle and barely any smell. The burger' condiments and the fries were top notch though, which makes this seem like an unfortunate oversight to what otherwise could have been a great experience.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the food was absolutely delicious, and everything was beautifully presented. A special thank you to our waiter, Daniel who made the evening even more enjoyable. He was attentive, friendly, and very professional. He gave great recommendations and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Highly recommended – I will definitely be coming back!

Staff is very friendly and polite. We had a baby with us and they were very helpful with our demands! Ordered medium tenderloin and it was as tender as the name suggests, very well made. The truffle pasta is also a recommendation, very tasty! Would absolutely come bak and eat here again. As in all my reviews I grant this a heerlie de peerlie out of 10.

Good steak, fair price and cool vibes! We book an appointment easily via their website and can easily check the menu in advance. Once I and family got there, our table was reserved, however, we have to move the table one time without providing a clear reason. Afterward, the service is not that smooth, I think it is because of new staff. The steak menu was good and easy to order. The chef cooks it right as I wish.Nonetheless, my rumpsteak was not my cup of tea, nice aroma but still too chewy for me. The side dish was good. The atmosphere is modern and cool with fire or ash decoration. The toilet is not that clean. The car park here is easy and convenient.

First time going here and it was just so pretty. The atmosphere was nice, the people were nice and friendly restaurant wasn’t too crowded to hear tour own conversation. Such a lovely experience. The food was great, the steak appetizer was amazing. Mashed potatoes just a inch dry but everything was great. Especially the apple crumble, i wish there was a bigger serving of vanilla ice cream but delicious nonetheless. Highly recommend, especially for a summer setting.

Had dinner on a very busy December night. The location is very close to Westfield CentrO complex. Despite not having reservations, we were seated quickly (30 mins). The waitress was very good, gave solid recommendations and was attentive to our requirements. Our party had their reservations about the restaurant, we wanted a local good German meal , not an American style Steakhouse - however, Ash delivered on very good food and beat our expectations. The dry age steak was tender and tasty, while the large flank steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and full of flavor. The American style curly fries featured theater style nacho cheese - exactly what you would expect. The location was very busy, by not too loud and our table could have a conversation without yelling. Our per person cost was around 75 euro a person including tip. We did have coffee and drinks, but no dessert. Overall, I would definitely go back, if I was in the area.

Nestled in the heart of Bottrop, the alpincenter Bottrop is a winter wonderland that surprises visitors with its impressive indoor ski slope, which holds the title of the longest artificial ski slope in the world. Spanning an incredible 640 meters and boasting a width of 30 meters, this facility offers snow depths of up to 40 centimeters year-round.
This review is mostly for the ski school. I highly recommend getting started with skiing here! I'm a newbie and I got more or less comfortable skiing down a red slope (skis not parallel all the way though) after 6 private lessons. My instructors, Elias, Jörg, Tino, Lea, Marc and Lenn were all excellent instructors! They were all able to identify my problems and made me do exercises that were very effective in fixing them. They were all very friendly and patient. I stopped asking for a specific instructor after realizing how all of them were great! I had little to no problem with the ski hall. The rented equipment never hindered the learning. The price was reasonable. Not a fan of the climb to the entrance of the conveyor belt + the long way back up, but it wasn't a problem during the course (mostly because we get the "priority access" :D). I'm really looking forward to coming back here once they reopen next fall/winter!
Abinav P — Google review
The slope is wonderful, the employees too- everything was just great (including the tasty food), the only terribly annoying thing was those ski coaches with their groups of students, that would take up a lot of space and time till they discussed whatever they talked about and moved. Also coaches would shoot over very grim, annoyed stares for straight lining down the slope (I’m a beginner. Needed to learn how to even properly stand on that board first). I think the Alpincenter definitely needs to start having a certain time schedule for guests and for their ski lessons.
Kana — Google review
Very nice place for kids who can ski a bit already and its easy to get on conveyor belt to go up. Some naughty youths or inexperienced ones make it stop, could be annoying but then you just go to get drinks and food and then it feels much better 😀
Olga K — Google review
+ Great open buffet, helpful staff. - The conveyor belt is incredibly annoying and outdated. We just didn’t even want to go down the big slope anymore at some point. It takes you 30 seconds to go down and a good annoying 5-10 minutes going up on the conveyor belt, standing up the whole time. You have to get out of both of your bindings and hold your snowboard to get on it. If you kneel down for a second, they will stop the belt and make an announcement saying that it is not allowed :D Also, what’s the meaning of this giant hill right before the lift? It’s so funny to see that everyone is miserably trying to climb up that last hill, trying to reach the infamous conveyor belt. Even though it was stated that there is a snowpark, it was nowhere to be found. We saw all the rails and the ledges at the side of the slope though. Overall, I feel like this place is missing out on a great potential but I guess they don’t care anyway.
Mert A — Google review
A great place for our family, suffering from parental alienation syndrome ( something many American fathers and German kids experience after divorce in Germany due to the awful court system!) to come together and bond after years of being forbidden to engage in fun activities together. Now that my 11 year old daughter and 15 year old son and are finally able to do activities together outside of Essen and we have discovered this magical place my normally dismal yearly visitations to see the children in rainy cloudy Frillendorf in October are now transformed into a great chance to learn new skills and have fun together! We went twice this week and learned snow boarding for the first time in this safe and well run indoor Winter Sport environment!!
Thomas C — Google review
My first time in ski hall and also on ski I don’t know how snow is good or bad but service and equipment in this location are 5/5 what I can’t recommend is the buffet, sorry but Schnitzel is not my favorite product. Service in restaurant is also top. It was excellent day and we had a lot of fun. Nice place to spend time and to ski down the hill
Alex — Google review
The longest artificial ski slope IN THE WORLD! Thanks to two sections with different steepness level, it is perfect both for newbies as well as for experienced skiers. The interior is nice and spacious. There is possibility to rent skis, snowboards (included in entrance price) as well as helms and ski outfit (extra charges). The place is quite popular on the weekend and less full during working days. Buffet food and drinks are also included in the entrance price, which is fantastic! Parking is available right at the entrance and costs 0,50€ for each 30 minutes. Maximum parking cost is 5€. Entrance tickets can be bought online in advance or on the spot.

Broccoli was completely missing, even though I specifically requested it when ordering. If I choose and pay for an extra ingredient, I expect it to be on the pizza – anything else is simply unprofessional. 2. The baking tray was about 70% burnt. The pizza was hard, bitter, and inedible. You shouldn't deliver something like that to a customer – this isn't a minor mistake, this is a quality failure. I understand minor mishaps, but this is a lack of care and respect for the customer. Neither warnings nor attention was paid to the quality of the product. (Original) Enttäuschung auf ganzer Linie – keine Empfehlung“ Ich bin absolut enttäuscht von meiner heutigen Bestellung. 1.

Restaurant
Schloss Gastronomie Kaisergarten in Oberhausen offers a picturesque setting right by the canal, surrounded by park landscapes and with views of the castle's own zoo. The restaurant serves upscale international cuisine with a strong regional influence, featuring dishes like black Beluga lentil salad with blood sausage and Irish ox cheeks from the stew pot. Visitors praise the friendly service and delicious food, including options like steak, salmon, mushroom soup, apple pie, and a variety of hot drinks.
THANX to the Egyptian waiter who helped us choosing from the menu and served a good lunch with so much kindness . The steak and Salmon were sooo delicious . Mushroom soup was salty a little bit. The place was GREAT to stop at , during our road trip . Again I want to deliver a special thanx to the Egyptian fellow. I hope to come back again here …

ELORIA – Erlebnisfabrik & Eventlocation offers a 3000 m2 show promising goosebumps, suspense, and magic for the whole family. Visitors are immersed in a fantastic and stunning experience with friendly staff guiding them through the narrative at a well-timed pace. The escape room provides an amazing and unique twist, making it a fun puzzle to solve as a team. Despite being late due to traffic, exceptional customer service allowed for another mission to be fitted in.
Eloria Erlebnisfabrik & Eventlocation is Awesome! I had such a blast! Their escape room is next-level—super creative, with amazing attention to detail. The games were challenging but not impossible, and the storylines really pulled me in. It felt like stepping into another world! The staff were friendly and made the whole experience even better. Whether you’re new to escape rooms or a pro, this place is an absolute must-visit. I can’t wait to try another game next time!

We were there for my daughter’s 8th birthday. The target was to find the pirate’s treasure. All girls were totally enthusiastic and worked together as a team to uncover all clues and find the treasure chest. 2 pirates accompanied us who where very helpful and funny and great with kids. Was a total hit, everyone loved it, including the parents. We highy recommend it and will come back!

We do escape rooms every 2 months with a few different groups. We mainly do escape rooms in the Netherlands. But also went to Belgium and drive up to 2 hours for them. We use escape talk website to search good venues. This 'escape room' Eloria was booked due to birthday present from my girlfriend side friends. Not my regular group. Lets just get to the review.. The concept of Eloria is promising but it does not last. After some initial story introduction you are let loose in the 1920 town. This immersive works to some extend but due to the time constraint nature you arent really focused on the scenery. I found the employees on the streets and other groups of escapees in your escape experience giving it a bad vibe.. it didnt feel like an escape room. Also the puzzles were really boring and easy. No secret rooms. Nothing of hidden objects. Just looking for some symbols that are linked to your escape room. With all the space that Eloria has and the Decor thats been built they have very bad execution. I suggest Eloria to go to escape room "the non believers" in the netherlands and gather ideas from there and implement. The whole concept needs redo. My fair point of view from a escapee with 20 escape rooms under his belt.

Indoor Skydiving Bottrop GmbH is Germany's pioneering indoor skydiving wind tunnel, boasting state-of-the-art facilities in Europe. The facility offers an exhilarating experience for individuals aged four and above, simulating the thrill of flying and freefall in a 14-foot glass flight chamber with airflow speeds reaching up to 280 km (174 miles) per hour. Visitors can enjoy the sensation of skydiving without the need to jump from an aircraft.
We have been to this place 14 years ago and had booked 2 minutes flight at that time. It was fun but too short to really learn anything. So this time we booked 6 minutes and took our kids with us. We had a really great time. Both instructors are very friendly and experienced. Our French instructor knows all the member’s name by heart. He explained the techniques to us in detail. I actually feel that I improved a little bit this time. After the flight he also spent time discussing our individual flight with us. We will certainly come back again. All the staff was very helpful both on the phone and on site. Just be aware that it could get very crowded on the weekend.

What a wonderful experience! As we entered the building we were nicely greeted, had to fill out a form and everything went so smoothly. Then we waited less than 10 minutes before our instructor, Gregory, called us and began the instructions. We were handed our goggles, helmet and a jumpsuit to put on. Gregory showed us around and demonstrated how we should enter the chamber and what positions to keep so that we would be able to float. He was so confident and professional that we, newbies, felt very comfortable and worry-free. We would each enter the chamber individually, and my experience went super smoothly and it was so fun that I laughed the entire time. A piece of advice: if you’re laughing keep your mouth closed 😂, to avoid your face from getting wet! I could do this all day long!! I couldn’t get enough. So happy to have done this! Very strongly recommended. Thank you Greg ☺️

It was a great experience, although you are not really aware of what is going on, you somehow get it a bit. I got two 2 min. dives and it is enough for the first time. The instructors and other staff are also great.

Amazing event! The whole time was just amazing. The team is friendly and explains the system and what happens at each moment. The instructors are open to answer every question and you never feel alone in the “flying chamber”. I will definitely come back for a second and third fly!

Our three 'kids' had a fantastic time in Bottrop and greatly enjoyed their flights. The waiting area is nicely furnished and clean. Everything was well organised and all members of staff were very friendly and competent. A special compliment goes to their instructor, Greg, who has such an open, friendly, witty and endearing manner that made everyone feel instantly at ease! His instructions, signals, body language, and helpfulness in the air channel were a pleasure to watch ~ so refreshing to see someone, who obviously loves his job, and to see how contagious this was for everyone he instructed.👌 A fantastic experience and a wonderful family memory! Keep up the great team work and all the very best to you all.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Essen Minster, also known as Essen Cathedral, is a historic Roman Catholic church located in the Burgplatz. Originally built as an abbey in the 9th century, it is considered one of Germany's oldest cathedrals. The cathedral treasury houses a significant collection of religious artworks, including a golden Madonna statue. Managed by the cathedral chapter, the treasury chamber preserves liturgical implements and objects still used in the service of God to this day.
The most beautiful church I ever seen. What really impacted me was the krypta. What a magic place I went down 4 times just to look at the serenity of this place. Wish I had a chance to enter and meditate there. The surroundings were peaceful and clean I just love it

Top and perhaps the only place to see in central Essen. Golden Madonna is magnificent. There are few more pieces of art surviving. Otherwise, the cathedral is quite empty- I guess due to the bombing campaign during Second World War.

Damaged in WWII but rebuilt this is a lovely church with a historic Romanesque west end resembling Aachen, with a gothic nave and apse. It has the famous Romanesque golden Madonna (behind grates and glass) and an equally old giant candle holder. The old crypt was closed whenever we visited. There are many interesting modern features too, I particularly loved the Buschulte (I think) stained glass in the nave and choir. Guessing late 1950s into the 1960s? Outside there are modern bronze doors, also very interesting - look out for poor John the Baptist's head and Salome. A nice quiet cloister on one side and large square on the other with wonderful plaited trees and a nice fountain. Also a modern statue of Alfrid, the founder. No tickets needed but check for when the services take place. We went for a lent musical meditation which included baroque organ music as well as some liturgical elements.

Well, the prices for something like that have unfortunately risen astronomically everywhere, so there's no need to talk about it. And we're still looking forward to the fish sandwiches to take away. Housed in a renovated coal-washing plant, the Ruhr Museum is situated within the Zeche Zollverein complex. Designed by architect Rem Koolhaas, the museum's layout preserves the original flow of production, with exhibitions spanning four floors. Visitors can explore local history, culture, and nature through both temporary and permanent displays. The museum offers insight into the region's heritage beyond coal mining, showcasing artifacts unearthed from excavations in the area.
Very well maintained museum with diverse expositions on many topics enriched with sound effects, good light design and overall feeling. Those keen on visiting such places definitely need to make a visit.
Maksim L — Google review
Let me start that's not a bad museum, the amount and quality of stuff, especially the geological is top notch. It's just not what you would expect from something located in a UNESCO site in a coal washing plant. Especially since, when you enter one of the longest escalators you will see in your life and arrive at the entrance level you are greeted with some cool looking industrial stuff. You feel like you actually went back in time and entered the factory, then there are stairs, that are mysteriously glowing in an orange color. All of that bursts like a bubble when you enter the permanent exhibition which is using almost nothing of the the place itself or the industry that was located here. Of course there is a whole floor dedicated to the Ruhr region history nowadays, and at the bottom when there are the history sections where you can see some environment damages and machinery that was used in old times. It's all about the Rurh region, but why not use this whole UNESCO complex you have here? Use the transmission belts to travel between the buildings and the exhibits. It's not like you would have to build them, they are there, you can even see them through the glass doors. Show some coal mining and coke production, not with a movie, hidden somewhere in a corner, but with lights, moving objects and sounds... something that would keep the feeling you have at the entrance. There are guided tours that show a bit more, however unless you are interested in the history that you could read on your own, there is little to see on those. I am actually mad at the wasted potential of this place. It could've been something that's one of a kind in the world, with this preserved site and what you get is a good museum for a middle school trip.
Maciej P — Google review
I spent seven hours browsing the site and the museums, and even then there were more things to see! The main museum has three floors of various expositions, from the ancient history of this region to the modern times, plus industrial artifacts, paintings, books, and more. There is an observatory platform to see the area from above. There are several tours in German and English. The English tour took us to the coal plant where we learned a lot about the mining operations of the past. I recommend coming as soon as they open (10:00 at present) to easily get tickets for any areas that require them (several areas are free). You can easily spend the whole day there! The museum has elevators to make it accessible. However, for the plant tour make sure to ask, because our route involved many stairs. There is a café, book & souvenir shop, and plenty of restrooms in the museum building. I highly recommend! Don't think about it as "just a coal mine" - this is a phenomenal museum of natural history, industrial history, and stories of the people of Rhine-Ruhr over the years. Plus, the territory of Zollverein has many other activities to explore.
Natalia P — Google review
The Ruhr’s entire story under one roof! Located in the iconic Zollverein Coal Mine Complex, the Ruhr Museum takes you on a journey from the region’s geological origins to its industrial boom and cultural transformation. The exhibits are beautifully curated, mixing fossils, minerals, historical artifacts, and powerful photography. The industrial setting adds atmosphere — riding the massive orange escalator to the entrance is an experience in itself. A must for anyone wanting to understand the Ruhr’s soul.
G. A — Google review
Stumbled upon this unique location before heading home. We walked around and did a tour on our own. We made some cute photos in the booth and made a souvenir coin. Always nice to learn some history.
Tyrienne — Google review
A very good museum! It's actually huge, and tells stories not only about the site itself and the industrialization of the Ruhr area, but about geology, history and geography as well. Plan several hours for the visit.
Slobodan E — Google review
If you come here, give yourself time. Some exhibits are confusing and not well laid out and others like the Ruhrkunst art show (lower level) is absolutely outstanding.
Will B — Google review
The Ruhr Museum is really an amazing place. It is located in a building of an old coal mine, and a lot of the original equipment was kept there, which creates very interesting atmosphere. The exhibitions are very diverse. There is a history of the region, the history of Germany itself, as well as archaeology and nature. The exhibition doesn't become boring because it keeps switching your attention from one aspect to another. They also didn’t forget about coal. There are many different types of coal presented. I didn’t even know there are so many types of it! Overall, it is a great museum and highly recommended to visit.

The Red Dot Design Museum, located in a building redesigned by Norman Foster, showcases the finest contemporary product designs from around the world. Situated within the Zollverein Complex, it celebrates industrial design breakthroughs and houses over 1,000 products that have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. The museum is dedicated to excellence in design, functionality, and innovation. It has been recognized as one of the top design museums globally and features everyday items that have become iconic due to their exemplary designs.
The Red Dot Design Museum is a fantastic spot for design lovers! The exhibits showcase award-winning products and innovative concepts from all over the world, from clever everyday items to visionary designs. The museum’s industrial-chic setting complements the modern displays and adds to the experience. I’d recommend giving yourself about 2 hours to really take it all in—you’ll want to explore each piece. One thing that could be improved is the signage; it was a bit hard to find the entrance, so clearer directions would help. Also, while the museum shop is decent, it didn’t quite live up to the creativity of the exhibits—could be a bit more exciting. Overall, though, the Red Dot Design Museum is a unique and inspiring visit for anyone curious about the world of design
Charlotte B — Google review
The Red Dot Design Museum in Essen is a hidden gem, especially if you love design, creativity, or just seeing cool stuff. It’s located in a former coal mine, which gives it this incredible mix of industrial history and cutting-edge innovation—a great setting for showcasing award-winning designs. From Apple and Nintendo’s evolution to kitchen gadgets you never think twice about, the museum makes you realize how much thought goes into everyday objects. The best part? You can actually touch and test out many of the exhibits! I had way too much fun spinning in a designer chair and checking out futuristic furniture. What I was missing was a bit more explanation added to the displays or maybe one sentence fun facts on why this design is special - sometimes it was difficult to know without googling what I was looking up or why should I care. Oh, and if you’re on a budget—Fridays are “Pay As Much As You Want” days! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Anja F — Google review
I will start by saying that the Red Dot museum IS worth visiting. However….some feedback and notes for fellow visitors. Though there are some cool state of the art or certainly interesting items, I’m sorry but a “control system” or “car part” does not engage (key word of the day…) or inform me what in Earth it is for, good for them for earning a “design award”. A few videos are more helpful but besides being able to touch some things and sit on some chairs, for things to either be functional or actually explained! Also, for some of the items that can be “tried”, it’d actually be nice to be able to leave feedback on their design or functionality because I’d certainly never buy a modern Chinese fridge that’s impossible to open. Maybe some things are already out for sale in Beijing or Finland but a lot does not leave a wow impression from having plainly seen it at the museum. The cashier is friendly and knowledgeable, and I’m not saying the museum has to sell its soul to the corporations making these products, the wow factor should be the premises of finding out what innovation is

Design heaven inside a former powerhouse! The Red Dot Design Museum blends cutting-edge modern design with the raw industrial charm of the Zollverein Coal Mine Complex. Every corner showcases innovative products, from everyday gadgets to futuristic concepts, all winners of the prestigious Red Dot Award. The building itself is a work of art — a perfect backdrop for creativity. Whether you’re a design professional or just curious, it’s an inspiring, hands-on experience you won’t forget.

That's fantastic place for everyone who is interested in art, design and industrial architecture. I've visited it multiple times and will definitely visit again. Surrounding area is quite vast so prepare yourself for long walk if you want to explore entire complex.
Robert K — Google review
It's fun.... But I also found myself asking, (as a designer), "why did [this] win a design award?". As many of the products did not take into account usability at all. Washing machines that hurt my hands to open (and would be near impossible for those with large hands), designs that were unintuitive to figure out. It seemed more like awards for aesthetic beauty-- rather than innovative, functional or overall good designs (which I expected).

Very nice any cozy place. Haven't had chance to try food of the restaurant yet, but very nice breakfast included in our stay. Happy with our stay and would recommend.

Great place to stay in Bottrop, just not very central. The room was minimalist yet cozy, breakfast was diverse and very tasty, and they also had a great looking restaurant, but I didn't have the chance to taste their food. Finally the hood around the hotel was very picturesque. All in all, even if you don't travel with a car, with a bus you'll only need some 20 minutes to be there.

Small hotel situated next to one of the main roads of the town. Clean and spacious rooms with a comfortable bed and free WiFi. Due to a steep staircase not suited for disabled people. Excellent breakfast buffet with a lot of choices. Friendly and very helpful staff. Great place to stay while in Magdeburg.

Roller coaster
If you're a thrill-seeker and a fan of sci-fi, then "Star Trek: Operation Enterprise" at Movie Park Germany is an absolute must-visit! This steel launched roller coaster, crafted by the renowned Mack Rides, opened its doors to adventure enthusiasts in May 2017. The ride features an immersive pre-show that sets the stage for an exhilarating experience filled with inversions and corkscrew turns.
The best rollercoaster in the park without a doubt! It's very nicely themed and if you are a Star Trek fan this js the ride for you! The queue is also very pretty and the area around the ride is also very nice. I hope Movie Park will continue making such beautiful rides!
Awkward T — Google review
strange operations. They hold you in a big room for queuing as you enter, then you're rushed past the most amazing set of the bridge towards the station (why not let people queue in there and take photos?) then a massive crowd of people and the queue becomes a complete mess at the station, they also only had one train on. ruined the entire experience which would be a good one otherwise, a few simple, changes at zero cost to the park could change this
Andy K — Google review
Star Trek: Operation Enterprise is a really fun Mack launch coaster with a triple-launch, some hangtime and a few ejector pops! The well-done and awesome Star Trek theming makes it one of the best rides in the park!
Coasterfreak 4 — Google review
Great rollercoaster with some nice theming, the launches are not too intense but just perfectly. A real must do for any rollercoaster and startrek fan!
The C — Google review
It is a decent roller-coaster. Even though it is the most extreme coaster in the park, I personally would not classify it extreme. It has some fun elements, a well themed Queue. The ride operators are very nice, however if you don't wear a mask you're pretty likely to get kicked off the ride (which is a good thing in my opinion)
Mathieu B — Google review
A awesome rollercoaster! The theme is nice and the queue is completely indoor. The launch of the coaster is amazing and the track and cars are very comfortable. The seats give a nice feeling of freedom. I can highly reccomend this coaster. And put your arms up in the air!

Halde Haniel stands as a remarkable spoil tip in the Ruhr area, reaching an impressive height of 185 meters above sea level. This unique structure is designed in two spirals and consists of materials from the nearby Prosper-Haniel mine. The journey to Halde Haniel offers a captivating experience, featuring a scenic route that includes the historic mining site and a pilgrimage path adorned with benches and informative signs about local mining history.
The Spanish or - better geographically placed - Basque artist AUGUSTIN IBARROLA GOICOECHEA (born in 1930 in Basauri, Bizkaia) is a famous artist who has made a very good name for himself with SCULPTURE, PAINTINGS and LANDSCAPE DESIGN in recent three decades. At the HALDE HANIEL (approx. 184 meters high) he has formed a spectacular COLUMN-CRESCENT on the upper edge of the spoil heap from the old WOODEN BOARDS of the tracks of the local TRASSENBAHN - each BOHLE is taller than man, each individually sculpted and individually brightly painted! In addition to their special shape and individual coloring, the planks also offer an associated silhouette that moves like a pointer on a SUNDIAL that is exposed in the landscape and adapted to the crater-shaped tip of the heap. It is therefore advisable to mark the end points of the shadows with bright glass stones on the longest day of the year, the SUMMER SOLSTICE with the highest position of the sun on June 21st, and then to measure and completely mark the shrinking of the shadows until the WINTER SOLSTICE (Heinrich55)

(Translated by Google) We were at the Haniel mine dump for the first time. (185 m high) On the way up we saw various objects from the mine, which also had explanations. When we reached the top, we had a great view in all directions. It's worth walking up there, just because of the wonderful all-round view in clear weather.👍 A few benches would be nice to relax.

(Translated by Google) I've always wanted to go up here, but unfortunately, all the art installations up there have disappeared. The view is magnificent, and for that reason alone, I recommend going up there. The Stations of the Cross are interestingly designed. But it was a bit desolate up there; the amphitheater was flooded, fences were down, and the totems were missing.

(Translated by Google) From the summit of the Haniel slag heap, you have an excellent view over part of the Ruhr region. Several landmarks and industrial buildings are clearly visible. For example, you can see the Thyssen steelworks in Duisburg Rheinhausen, about 20 km away. There's a circular trail at the summit with a clear view of the surrounding area. It would be nice to have some information boards there explaining what you're seeing. Work is being done on the summit. Fences have been erected in some places. There's a pond at the summit and a small amphitheater. The totem poles have been temporarily relocated. The view is worth the climb. There's at least one wide gravel path with a moderate incline all the way to the top. I think you can also ride it on a touring bike. The trail leads through the forest that was planted on the slag heap. This is very pleasant when the sun is shining brightly. There are also narrow paths and steep trails that have obviously been used and groomed by mountain bikers. I think the trails are used for downhill rides. A lovely place for a walk or bike ride. Free parking is available. Anhang: 8 Fotos, 1Video

(Translated by Google) The pizza is OK, but not exceptionally good. And the price-performance ratio, especially for the salad with prawns, is almost a disgrace. €13.90 for 3 prawns, lots of rocket and a few tomatoes is simply not fair. Here you get significantly more for your money at other pizzerias. When asked, the response was negative. No longer an option for us in the future.

(Translated by Google) We used the pizza delivery service. We pre-ordered it and it arrived on time. The first thing we noticed was that the pizza was quite small for a "large" pizza. That probably won't be enough for everyone. I thought the taste was okay, but I wasn't overly enthusiastic. Overall, everything was fine. Unfortunately, due to the rather poor price-performance ratio and the fact that it wasn't anything special, I only gave it three stars.
