Fontana delle Sette Cannelle, located in Piazza della Repubblica, is a significant monument in Pitigliano. Dating back to 1545, this ornate fountain was named Fontana delle Sette Cannelle in the 18th century and is fed by the adjacent 16th-century Medici aqueduct. The town itself is perched on a tuff rock outcrop and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
If your in central Italy. This is well worth the drive even on the hottest days. There are cold fountains everywhere and the views are well amazing. Restaurants are open and drink bars right next to this Fontana. If you love to drive take that manual gear box for a rip….. this area has roads that will fill your needs. Take it easy.

Pitigliano, what a beautiful placevto visit. Full of atmospheric charm and history. Photographs paradise. Picture round every corner. During the day and at night we'll it is just amazing to see all lit up in it's wonderful glory. We just came across it ended up stopping the night.

Pitigliano is a unique historical town grafted onto the top of a tuff rock outcrop. Not so much to do in the small historical center, but worth a stop.

The Fountain of the Seven Spouts is a monumental landmark located in the historic center of Pitigliano. If you're visiting the old town, you're sure to see it set against the gorgeous backdrop of the Tuscan slopes. Make sure you visit around sunset, as the skies are especially gorgeous then.

The Museum of Palazzo Orsini is a stunning collection of sacred art, featuring works and liturgical furnishings from the Cathedral of Pitigliano and surrounding churches. Housed in 18 rooms, it showcases remarkable pieces like Jacopo della Quercia's wooden Madonna and Child statue and Guidoccio Cozzarelli's panel painting 'Madonna and Child with angels and saints Francesco and Pietro.'
The Sforza Castle and Museum is a wonderful example of construction. It stands in the town of Pitigliano, which is an outstanding example of a town on tuff. Tuff is a type of rock made from volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. After being ejected and deposited, the ash turns into solid rock. I especially liked the lion statue on the outside of the castle.

Barely frescoed rooms; ultimately it's a museum. There is something interesting in it (the oil mill, the balcony onto the central square, some paintings), but I don't know if it's really worth it.
Metalpsyche82 — Google review
The middle aged man at the reception was very rude. I approached and asked in Italian "good evening, how are you? Do you speak English?" because I need to ask a question I didn't have the vocabulary for. .... he replied in a mocking voice, in Italian, "no I only speak Italian because I am in Italy!" like a child - com'è uno bambino!!! Everyone else in Pitigliano of all ages and languages has been so kind, polite, and helpful - we turned and left immediately due to his attitude!!

Delizie di Ale & Helga is a superb eatery situated on Pitigloanos main street, offering delectable cuisine and homemade savory preserves like vegetables and spreads. This friendly establishment provides a great pasta experience in a warm atmosphere. It comes highly recommended as the ultimate spot for an aperitivo in the entire borgo, where they serve their own products alongside local wines.
Super delicious food, homemade savoury preserves (veggies, spreads etc.), great pasta in a friendly setting on Pitigloano’s main street. Absolutely recommended.

We just had lunch there. 💜 Was amazing. We had one of the best pasta in Italy. With organic products. The wild white boar ragout was incredible, and the dessert ( ricotta gelato with cherry amarena ) so good. Very good price for the quality of the food. Dont miss this place.... I just read some other reviews, and some are not deserved from our experience. The young lady who served us was very caring, helpful, trying to explain us the menu. Smiling and kind. And the wife of the chef (apparantly the owner) came to us to say hi and was very friendly. Really we loved everything ablout this place 💜

Went in for a short lunch break with my parent while walking through the town. The waitress and another woman in the kitchen whom im assuming was the owner were actively horrible to us. We ordered a cheese and meat platter with bread to share. Apparently that wasn't a big enough order, they were appalled at the fact that we did not order wine to go with our lunch and scolded us for having a small water bottle with us. At some point we were actually yelled at. i would like to state that we are not the type that goes to restaurants looking for conflict, rather we just wanted to try the local food and have a light lunch before we left the town.

Can’t say a lot about food, but I should talk about staff. We ‘googled’ the phone and called in a middle of the day to make a reservation, but I was told they don’t make them. Non c’e problema! It was rated so good, so we decided to give it a try and noticed some free tables. Cameriere came to clean the tables and we asked one for two people. “Un momento” - she said. While standing there in the street, some italians came, asked another cameriere and was leaded right away. Not to lose our queue again, we sitted ourselves :) Plot twist - cameriere came and said that this place was reserved. But how come if they don’t do reservations?? Very cute couple nearby suggested to take their places, but after some rude answers again, we decided just to say Ciao.

Located in the Jewish quarter of Pitigliano, Hostaria del Ceccottino is a must-visit bakery known for its traditional dishes and delicious desserts. The restaurant offers a varied menu with gluten-free options available upon request. While some find the prices to be on the higher side, many visitors praise the attentive service and overall dining experience.
Walked in without a reservation. Owner was kind to accommodate us. House wine (Rosso) was very good, food was delicious and service was excellent. Next day ran into the owner before the restaurant opened. Asked her which wine we had the previous night and she went out of her way to share details about it and pointed me to the local shop where I could buy it. Definitely recommend visiting this hidden gem in Pittigiano.

PITIGLIANO is probably the cutest little town in Toscana and staying at the Ceccottino is the best recommendation I could ever make to anyone that wants to experience real tuscan hospitality! The rooms are immaculate clean, done with such taste and dedication to detail. Overall a wonderful experience! Their hosts Chiara and Alessandro are a delight! Their restaurant is fabulous! Still making dishes following their mamma’s recipes but with a twist! The Slow food movement is expressed at its best! A must in Toscana, a true gem you’ll never forget!

Amazing meal in a beautiful place. The ingredients are simple but well treated and beautifully served. We mostly ate plant based items because we wanted to keep it light for a midday meal, but the selection includes meat based traditional dishes. The wine list is an education. The best part is they do not allow smoking, not even outdoors.

This restaurant is top notch. Everything was just perfect, the food, the service, the atmosphere. One of the best meals I've had in my seven weeks in Italy. The lasagna was incredible.

Located in the heart of Pitigliano’s old town, Hostaria del Ceccottino offers elevated Tuscan cuisine in a stylish, softly lit space. We came here for a romantic dinner and were not disappointed. The highlights were the beef tagliata with rosemary potatoes and the handmade tortelli stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The wine recommendation – a local Syrah – was spot on. Service was polished and professional, and the setting made it feel like a special evening. It’s a bit pricier (€50–€60 per person), but absolutely worth it for the quality and atmosphere. Perfect for a date night or celebration.

Museum
La Piccola Gerusalemme, Ghetto Ebraico in Pitigliano is a must-visit when exploring the village. The Jewish Museum, located partly in the former synagogue dating back to 1598, offers an insightful journey into the formation of the Jewish quarter and its cultural significance within this small town. The museum features comprehensive exhibits that take visitors underground and provide a detailed understanding of the challenges faced by the Jewish community.
Fantastic history and well-appointed. Don’t miss the fantastic paintings on display as well. A truly wonderful experience that takes about forty-five minutes to fully absorb.

Fabulous museum from the ghetto starting back to 1555 where the village of Pitigliano nicknamed "the small Jerusalem" was a place of refuge for the Jewish community, seeking to flee the city of Rome so as not to be subject to Catholic authority. The ghetto as such was formed at the beginning of the 17th Century which the Medici dynasty took command of the city and restricted Jewish mobility. Yet still the community was well integrated and respected, collaborating in the economic, social and cultural fabric of the town. Prior to the 2nd World War, the community was numerous and active. Throughout the 19th Century when there was greater freedom of movement, many members of the community left Pitigliano for the more economically attractive cities of Rome, Florence, Lucca or Livorno. By 1938, however, after Nazi racial laws took effect only 60 members of the community remained, many escaping capture thanks to their neighbors, but forced to hide with farming families in the valley. A plaque in the Ghetto commemorates the 22 Jews born in Pitigliano who were killed in concentration camps. The town of Pitigliano sided strongly against deportation and in 2002 the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem, the honor of the "Righteous Among the Nations" was conferred to some Pitigliano families for their attempt to save their fellow citizens. The Synagogue was built in 1598 and following a landslide rebuilt in 1995 by the town. This visit include the synagogue (restored in 1995), Cultural center, ritual bathhouse, wine cellar, bakery, dye-works, all of which are dug into the native tufa stone, as well as the the fairly non-traditional Jewish cemetery tucked in a cypress grove below the town.

Small but very complete and informative museum with content in both Italian and English. As an American Jew, I found it interesting to read the descriptions of things I already know, to see how they are explained to others. I would recommend this visit as a wonderful learning experience for those who want to know more about the Jewish religion.

(Translated by Google) If you happen to be in Pitigliano, a visit to the Synagogue/Jewish Museum is a MUST...here you can see and feel the suffering these people endured over the centuries. The guide (very knowledgeable and available to answer any questions) is the main architect of this experience, but the rooms, where everyday life took place "underground," are the real backdrop. You can (and I recommend) book your visit in advance. Friendly staff, prompt tasty food and delicious local wine, great decoration (including a 3D feature of the town along the bar), good music and ambience. The pasta was delicious - tortellini with spinach and ricotta and wild boar ragu was some of the best pasta I’ve ever had; packed full of flavour and cooked perfectly

Pleasant. Nothing really wrong, but this place feels like “ I order, you bring, I pay”. Done. Positive is the extensive wine list. Food regular quality, no problems. Our waitress was a pleasant , efficient person.

We had a great experience at this place. Food was delicious from the cheese and salumi selection to the first course. Perfect also for vegan as they serve a very tasty soup (I tried it even in Summer time). Location is also great and romantic, just next to the aqueduct arches. Definitely recommended!

Locanda al Pozzo Antico, located in a historic 15th-century building in the heart of a medieval town, is a charming restaurant that offers authentic Tuscan cuisine. With its cozy and elegant ambiance, this place serves high-quality dishes showcasing the flavors of Tuscany. The menu features fresh and seasonal options, including handmade pasta, locally sourced meats, and succulent seafood.
Nice find, very friendly staff... Pizza with smoked cheese, sausage and caramelized carrots ... Delicious and crust was spot on. Simple Pici dish with tomato and olive oil just great. Good value house red, and friendly service.

Everything the best! Pizza, made at the place on the view, was quite large with a lot of topics - Capriciosa positive-surprising because of unusual ingredients. The wholegrain pizza is also possible - a huge plus. Saute of broccoli delicious. Good prices regarding to quality and size. If you want to eat a not very sweet dessert (yeah, not everyone can eat sweetness 😁) I recommend to ask a waiter about that - I got the panna cotta which wasn't included in the current menu and it was really only little-sweet (in the normal price). Waitress are great, they speak english, very sympathetic and talkative. They play a good rock music. Sorry for a long description, but it was so nice supper that I had to... 😊

A party of four we tried 6 different dishes. One soup, one pizza, two primis and two secondis. All but the soup (correct) was exceptionally good. Take it from someone who takes special interest in the Italian cousine 😉 Tartufo dishes (pici and pizza) are must try dishes

Delicious. The soup was really nice and tasty. Spaghetti with bacala was very very yummy. Plus the pizza gourmet with postacchio was sublime. For the pizza you can also ask the lateral with filling (I asked for anchos and cheese as lateral filling). The price is very correct. We could see the restaurant is good as many locals were also having dinner. Well done.

Restaurant
IL TUFO ALLEGRO di Pichini Domenico is a highly recommended restaurant in Pitigliano. Visitors were impressed by the warm welcome and attentive service, especially accommodating a pregnant guest. The menu offers typical dishes with handmade, fresh pasta and a fusion of local flavors with innovative culinary twists. Guests raved about the delicious acquacotta e lamb stew and the high-quality, light food.
Cute little terrace on the side of the restaurant. Friendly service and well priced and delicious food.

Il Tufo Allegro has a more modern vibe while still staying rooted in local flavors. The interior is cool and minimalist, with shelves of natural wines and creative plating. We started with a zucchini flower tempura and moved on to tagliolini with porcini mushrooms and thyme – fragrant, rich, and absolutely delicious. They also had vegetarian options, which was a welcome surprise in a meat-heavy region. Our server was helpful and clearly passionate about the menu. We spent about €35 per person. It’s a great stop for food lovers looking for something a little different in Pitigliano.

The waiter was drunk, forgot our order and brought the main dishes 30 min apart for a group of 4. The food was too salty (esp. meat), except pasta that was simple. Their terminal didn't work, so we had to go to the ATM to get cash. Overall a bad experience, no view, bad service, bad food. I do NOT recommend. There are soo many other places in the area, go to those

We came to this place upon the recommendation from the Jewish and we were not disappointed in the least. they were extremely nice to us and let us in early since my wife was pregnant and we just needed to sit down and brought us water immediately and then explain to us their menu of typical dishes. The food was extremely tasty and clearly the pasta was handmade and fresh. They use typical, fresh, seasonal ingredients and allow the quality of the products to speak for themselves and really be the protagonists of every dish. The smoked ricotta gnocchi with aubergines were delicious. The classic dish of tomato Pappa was amazing and you shouldn't miss it! since they don't take the tip on credit card I asked them tfor a coffee to split change after I paid the bill and they said you don't need to order a coffee to get change I'll give you change and offer you the coffee which was very nice and speaks to the pride that they take in their dishes and in making you feel welcome. Definitely coming again.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Via cava di San Giuseppe, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Azienda Vitivinicola Villa Corano. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Via Cava Etrusca San Giuseppe is a significant route in Pitigliano, particularly during the Torciata di San Giuseppe festival. Celebrated on St. Joseph's feast day, the event features a mix of Christian and pagan traditions, culminating in a torchlit procession along Via Cava and a bonfire at Piazza Garibaldi.
This is 5 star historical entertainment. A fantastic walk through Etruscan history that provides a great way to spend an active day.

Cantina di Pitigliano, situated in the province of Grosseto, southern Tuscany, is a winery located in the town of Pitigliano. With a population of around 4,000 people, this charming town sits atop a tufa rock that reaches about 300 meters high and is surrounded by deep gorges formed by the two rivers Lente and Meleta.
Amazing Wine! It is one of the best white wine I ever try. The service is very friendly and in English as well. Amazing little town. It is real pearl in the Tuscany. This summer I will come again! Why you don't distribute your wine to Canada? You must!

A comfortable place. But as others have noted the experience is quite commercial. The hostesses were polite and friendly, but served and left. Their 'award winning' white was pleasant. Their Sweet red was very pleasing. Sorry, forgot to get the names.

I will say, the wines were just ok. The experience overall was very commercial and business oriented. If you are looking for fantastic wines and a more organic and personalized experience this is NOT the place. Also, appalled at the pricing strategy. I confirmed on the phone as tasting for TWO and they charged us also for the children almost the same amount who had sparkling water and a few bites of the spread. Service was good, but disappointing overall.

We started with an Ildebrando Bianco di Pitigliano Superiore DOC, then a Nel Tufo Maremma Toscana DOC (bianco) and finished with a beautiful Via Cava Gradone Maremma Toscana DOC (rosso). Everything was delicately paired with a delicious antipasto (cold cuts, cheeses, olives, onions and breads drizzled with a delicate and intense olive oil). The attendant, a young brunette, was extremely kind and explained in great detail the entire history surrounding the production of the wines. This was one of the best tours we did in Pitigliano. I would like to thank the entire team. (Original) A degustação de vinhos foi uma experiência maravilhosa e inesquecível. We were very impressed by the location, it was intimate and pleasant, the girls were also very kind and helpful. The wines obviously depend on taste (for the layman) but we would have preferred to be followed with more attention during the tasting rather than being left to our own devices. The food was also excellent, the locally produced oil and the various cured meats and cheeses with jams and so on were very good. In conclusion, a beautiful experience with a slight blemish. I recommend it! Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
When in Pitigliano, Italy, make sure to visit the stunning Pitigliano Cathedral, also known as Cattedrale Ss. Pietro e Paolo. This centuries-old church was dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul during a refurbishment under Count Niccola III degli Orsini. The cathedral's history dates back to the Middle Ages and it boasts a beautiful late baroque facade, making it one of the most significant monuments in Pitigliano.
(Translated by Google) The cathedral has its roots in medieval times, although its structure has been modified and expanded over the centuries. During the Renaissance and Baroque period, the church acquired many of the elements that define its style today. Pitigliano's historical connection with the Orsini family, which played a crucial role in shaping the character of the city, also influenced the design and ornamentation of the cathedral. This historical context enriches the visit, as it allows the cathedral to be placed in a broader framework that encompasses politics, art and religion. However, it should be noted that despite its historical importance, the cathedral often goes unnoticed compared to other churches and monuments in the Tuscany region. This could be due to a lack of proper promotion or competition with better-known destinations such as Florence and Siena. The architectural design of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Saints combines medieval and baroque elements, giving it a distinctive character. Its façade, although not as ornate as other Italian cathedrals, features baroque details that reflect a more sober but elegant approach. The columns and decorative elements that frame the main entrance are testament to the skill of the craftsmen of the time. The interior is where the cathedral really shines. The main nave, adorned with delicate frescoes and richly decorated side altars, is a space that combines majesty with intimacy. The main altar, made of polychrome marble, is a notable work, although its baroque design may be excessive for those who prefer the aesthetic simplicity of the Renaissance. A critical aspect of the architecture is its apparent lack of integration with the natural surroundings of Pitigliano, a town famous for its dramatic location on a volcanic tuff promontory. While other buildings in the city seem to dialogue with the landscape, the cathedral seems somewhat more isolated from this visual interaction, which could be considered a missed opportunity to connect even more with the spirit of the place. Among the artistic jewels of the cathedral, the frescoes and sculptures that decorate the interior space stand out. The wooden crucifix on the main altar is a particularly moving piece, combining a realistic style with thought-provoking expressiveness. However, some minor pieces lack the artistic quality that would be expected from a cathedral of this importance, which could be a consequence of less successful renovations in the past. Another point to consider is the interior lighting. Although natural light plays an important role, certain areas of the cathedral lack sufficient artificial lighting to highlight key details of the artistic works, especially on cloudy days. This could be an area of improvement for a more enriching experience. The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is not only a center of worship, but also a symbol of identity for the local community. The religious festivities celebrated here, such as those dedicated to San Roque, the city's patron saint, are events that unite residents and attract visitors. However, its cultural role could be expanded through more exhibitions or activities that highlight its historical and artistic importance. Although the building is in good general condition, some areas show signs of wear, especially in the frescoes and certain areas of the exterior. It would be advisable to implement a more comprehensive restoration plan. The cathedral, due to its location in a city with steep, cobblestone streets, is not easily accessible to people with reduced mobility. While this is understandable given the historical context, additional steps could be taken to improve accessibility.

The facade of this beautiful cathedral dates from the start of the 18th century. It is spread over four square columns which frame the statues of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul. His entry is in Renaissance style while his bell tower proudly carries the colors of the Romanesque style. The bell tower was first erected for a defensive purpose. The building has two side chapels where paintings from Francescarelli (local painter.) The interior architecture is preserved is preserved in Baroque style and date of the 16th century. A remarkable work, from 1609, from Francesco Vanni: "The Madonna del Rosario" is at the entrance, on the left of the building. On the sides of the presbitaire, we can also admire two superb sculptures in the 18th century, one representing faith and the other charity. The adjoining "Torre Campanaria" of the cathedral is a very rare example of a tower erected for military purposes but converted to religious purposes.

(Translated by Google) The church has very ancient origins (1061) and over time has undergone many alterations, which have given it its current appearance (Baroque prevails). Interesting are the canopy that surmounts the main altar, the Baptismal Font and some paintings, among which the one representing the Madonna of the Rosary stands out. The bell tower, initially built as a military tower, assumed its current shape (on three orders) and its current function as a bell tower around 1700. Synagogue
Museum
Sinagoga di Pitigliano is a small but well-maintained synagogue that offers a quiet place for meditation and peace. The synagogue, along with the old ghetto, provides important insights into the historical Jewish community in the area. Visitors over 13 years old are required to cover their heads, and kippas can be purchased at the entrance.
The community of Pitigliano established at the 1550’s almost disappeared during the Holocaust and currently numbered only 3 people. The museum is run by an association under the Jewish community of Livorno. It is a beautiful museum that includes also all the Jewish life of the community. The Synagogue was renovated lately (1995) by the city. The city itself is located atop an impressive cliff and reconstructed after huge damage of WWII. Please see the reply of the community bellow with important information

Wonderful historic synagogue showing the past of Jewish settlers in Pitigliano. The underground was extra cool.
Andrea T — Google review
Superb visit of the synagogue and it's fantastic and impressive museum which tell the story which starts back to 1555 where the village of Pitigliano nicknamed "the small Jerusalem" was a place of refuge for the Jewish community, seeking to flee the city of Rome so as not to be subject to Catholic authority. For once, they fell well, since the inhabitants of the Tuscan region never supported the Pope and the Jews were very well received within the city of Pitigliano. Several years after the installation and integration of the Jewish community in the village, a first synagogue was built in 1598, accentuating this peaceful and healthy coexistence between Christians and Jews. Exiles arrived from many parts of Tuscany to the ancient town resting on a tufa ridge and though they were restricted to a ‘ghetto’, the community prospered. The town was considered a 'privileged place of refuge' for Jews exiled from the Rome in the period 1569-1593. Over the centuries the population’s safety and status rose and fell with the politics of the day – at one point comprising 20% of the city’s population. The community even published the 1st Italian Jewish newspaper and maintained a large library, a synagogue (built in 1598), a ritual bathhouse and a bakery for the preparation of the unleavened bread. Unfortunately, this cohabitation quickly ended when city governance was dominated by the Medici family. This new authority was attributed under the orders of the Pope, anti -Semitic, reserving a tragic spell for the Jewish community of Pitigliano. From the year 1600, all the Jews were transferred to a confined section of the village, with the obligation to distinguish themselves by wearing a red hat for men, and a red pin in the hair for women ! At present only 1 member of the community is left, but visitors may visit the synagogue (restored in 1995), Culture center, Kosher butcher, ritual bathhouse, wine cellar, bakery, dye-works, all of which are dug into the native tufa stone, as well as the the fairly non-traditional Jewish cemetery tucked in a cypress grove below the town.

Lovely museum, synagogue and shop describing the past Jewish presence in "Little Jerusalem" where 1/4 of the town was Jewish long ago. Great displays showing where matza was baked, and many other Jewish activities from long ago in this quaint old town. A real effort has been made to preserve this memorable area. Thank you for your efforts!

In a place with such a rich and long Jewish presence and culture like Pitigliano, a museum dedicated to this heritage should be better organized, and have much more information (e.g. how the community evolved from the first days until it was brutally decimated by the Mussolini/Nazi racial laws). One learns a little about the Jewish holidays and a few other religious practices (the kosher bread, wine and slaughter of animals) or the purification bath... but that's it... and the different old workshops (wine cellars, weaving store, etc) should have more signs and historical/ archeological explorations. The 5€ entrance costs are to high for so little.

I happened to find this winery on the way to Pitigliano. I wanted Passito. So a lady kindly recommended similar ones. I had a taste and was satisfied with those. I was lucky to drop by Villa Corano!
Seung Y — Google review
I’ve done a fair amount of international travel over the years, and more often than not, my trips tend to revolve around two of my favorite things: food and wine. Locally, I love dabbling in wine tastings and taking the occasional class — but let’s be clear, I’m not a connoisseur. Labels, price tags, and tasting notes with hints of “graphite and wet stone” don’t mean much to me. I just like what I like. That said, two of my most memorable wine experiences happened in Napa and Mexico… until now. This was my first time visiting Italy, and wow — what a trip. Eight cities, one stunning country, and memories that will last a lifetime. But the standout, the crown jewel of the entire adventure? Villa Corano. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like old friends. At the door stood Stefano Formiconi — the owner, the manager, and part of the third generation of this incredible family-run vineyard — alongside his granddaughter, the fifth generation. Stefano didn’t speak much English, but honestly, he didn’t need to. His warmth, gestures, and joyful energy said more than words ever could. He led the tour and tasting, with his granddaughter — who spoke perfect English and clearly shared his deep passion — gracefully bridging the language gap. I’ve visited plenty of vineyards where the staff genuinely love what they do. But there’s just something different, something magical, about being welcomed by the owner, and experiencing the pride and humility firsthand. You could feel the history in the air, see it in the family photos and hear it in the stories they shared — generations of dedication, craftsmanship, and love poured into every bottle. The wine? From “really good” to “wow, can I move in?” good. But what made this visit unforgettable wasn’t just the wine — it was the heart behind it all. It felt like being wrapped in a giant hug of tradition, gratitude, and passion. I’ll never forget this visit, and I’m sending all the love and best wishes to the Formiconi family. May their vineyard continue to flourish — and may I get to drink their wine again soon!

We stayed in a rental villa just outside Pitigliano. We came upon the winery quite by accident as we were driving the Tuscan countryside. We were graciously welcomed in to wine taste and enjoy some food which we did. The wines are all wonderful and Stefano is a wonderful host. I definitely would love to revisit someday! I had several wines shipped to the USA and am enjoying them now.

Il Caveau Restaurant in Pitigliano is a charming dining spot located in the historic center of the town. It offers a panoramic terrace and unique wine cellars carved into the tufa rock. The menu features a delightful selection of local and international dishes, with a focus on top-quality local produce. What sets this restaurant apart is its inviting caves below, adding to the overall dining experience.
Delicious restaurant in a magical setting. Super friendly staff and great steaks. The cured meats and cheese selection had a selection of stunning produce, really worth the money. Suckling pig and steak were both excellent. The green salad was basic but fresh and crisp. Desserts were not an afterthought, all skilfully made. Staff were kind enough to show us the meat fridge and the cellars. Both super interesting. Grazie.

We were blessed to find this well known restaurant on a quiet week day evening in early Jun. Seated at the edge of the terrance we were treated to a magnificent sunset on a beautiful spring day. A perfect dining experience! When we decided to get away to Pitigliano I don’t think we would have such an opportunity to enjoy hi-end cuisine! We found Il Caveau on Google maps and walked over to make a reservation… we loved it. My wife, my son and I decided to try a variety of dishes and the local wine and all of them were beyond our expectations! The chef sent out “amuse Bouche” of tenderloin filet with truffle. wow! We paired that with the local Sassotondo wine and stared our appetizer of beef tartare then our main courses: pasta with porcini mushrooms, veal cheeks in pumpkin sauce and beef ribs with roasted rosemary potatoes. Desserts were equally amazing, as we had two crumbles, and a soufflé (which was the only dish that wasn’t perfect… it was less like a French soufflé and more like an American brownie) but still delicious! If you’re eating in Pitigliano: THIS IS THE PLACE!

Home made pasta, dry aged meat, and local Tuscan wine. Stopping by Il Caveau was the type of pleasant surprise you hope to find when roaming around a small Italian town. We visited Pitigliano based on a suggestion by a friend and wandered the small streets until we came across the humble sign posted just outside the entrance. Noticing the curious look on our faces a woman (presumable the upstairs neighbor) told us we would not be disappointed…. She was right. We were greeted by a pleasant hosting staff who showed us around the unique setting of the restaurant before bringing us to our table set on the terrace overlooking the west facing valley so we could have a view of the sunset. If this wasn’t enough, our meal was just what you would expect. I started with a home made pasta with semi-dried tomatoes and bottarga eggs paired with a local wine. To finish off we had a fillet which was prepared perfectly tender. One of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tried. The fact that I am writing this 3 months later says something. The waitstaff were very kind and knowledgeable. A great example of Italian hospitality and taste. I’m very much looking forward to return to try their dry aged meats.

Amazing restaurant! Here's a tip! Avoid the restaurants at the entrance to the city. There are some well-known restaurants but with expensive prices! Not long had lunch here on the basis of other Google reviews and not disappointed in the slightest. They sell ready-made pizza by the slice, but we ordered a freshly made Salsicce off the menu which took about ten minutes and had a couple of reasonably priced appetizers and drinks whilst we waited. Menu not in English, but staff present did speak it, which obviously helped a little. Pizza was delicious, service was excellent and would recommend it to price-conscious tourists who want to support a local business that primarily serves the locals. Grazie!

The cuisine here is exceptional and surpasses all other local establishments we've dined at. It is an absolute must-visit for any food enthusiast due to their passion for delectable dishes and innovative Tuscan cooking style.
We loved our dinner at L’Altro Sapore: the food, the service and the ambiance were just perfect. You can tell that the owners have put a lot of love and care in every single detail: from the local premium ingredients, to the music and the beautiful natural setting. They welcomed us with warmth and made us feel at home. If you are a lover of the true luxury that exudes from simplicity, this is the right place for you.

What a great experience. A true hidden gem in the Tuscan country side. Local and high quality food served in a farm restaurant with great ambience. Very nice hosts. Their olive oil is worth buying as a souvenir after your dinner. A must go when in the area of Pitigliano!

What a wonderful experience! Host and chef greeted us at the door. The food was fantastic — fresh ingredients and immaculately prepared. Outstanding hospitality and took great care with our children (ages 8-10). Their award winning olive oil was flavorful and delicious — we bought three bottles. A wonderful evening!

This restaurant is a pearl. We have visited many restaurants in the 5 days we stayed at our b&b and at the last day of our stay, we visited this restaurant and we were sad we did not visit this one earlier so that we could explore their menu completely. The food is amazing and of all restaurants in the neighborhood this offered the best we have eaten. The love for the food and the innovative Tuscan cooking is a must for any foodie. Also, the service (Eduardo) is great, really adding to the relaxed and romantic atmosphere.

Trattoria La Pappalpomodoro Di Foschetti Anna Lisa offers a perfect evening atmosphere in the city, especially when seated outside. The staff is friendly and provides quick service, even without a reservation. The restaurant is known for its great wine selection and reasonably priced local wines. The food is delicious with big portions at fair prices. Dishes like carbonara come with a unique twist that makes them both familiar and unusual in taste.
Been seated outside and it was perfect atmosphere of the evening city! Great wine, amazing pasta, good tiramisu. Friendly staff, quick service, big portions. Definitely recommend to check if you there. (We didn’t have a reservation and still have been seating outside. September.)

During our visit to Pitigliano, we decided to stop at this place due to the very positive reviews they collected and the level of tourism there was. And I can say, without a doubt, that it is one of the places that I most remember from the trip. The food was homemade, the service was very polite, and it didn't take long to serve the dishes. But when you try the pasta with pesto and cherries, I can assure you that it's wonderful!! I would go back upside down. 😬🫣 What an outrage!

We discovered this restaurant as we walked through Pitigliano on our 1st time there. Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
Reverend S — Google review
Nice atmosphere. Food was so so. The pici all'aglione ONLY taste like garlic. The tagliata (cut) ai porcini was not ... cut and has almost no salt in it while the porcini were almost too salty. The paccheri with ciliegini tomato was a little sour. The spinach taste only like lemon and were way too sour. The waiter did not mention lemon on them when we asked what was in them. The waiter was in general not well trained. Finally the bonus was to see a can of veggies on the sink in the bathroom.

Big portions and fair price. We had quite regular dishes (like carbonara), tho they were with a twist and tasted half familiar, half unusual. :)

Lovely little restaurant with real character. Great prices and when the food arrived it was more then ample in quantity and spot on for quality. One of those restaurants where you walk out rubbing your tummy and with a smile on your face both because of the good food, wine and very reasonable contrino.

Amazing, unique meal. So delicious. I wish I could remember the name of my dish, but it had a fat pasta with eggplant, caper, and breadcrumbs. Extraordinary. Then had Pstachio Cream for desert. Insanely good. Sweet decor. Very cozy.

We had an absolutely gorgeous meal for my birthday here! The place itself is absolutely lovely with beams and almost like a little cave. The staff were really attentive and friendly and the service fast. The food was absolutely lovely! We ordered the cold cuts and pecorino cheese starter, the ravioli with ragù, pici with butter and truffle and tiramisu and fig cheesecake. I would go back in a heartbeat, it was really lovely. Thank you so much!

We had lunch here recently when we did a car trip to Pitigliano. So delicious! The star for us was the starter, which was warm pecorino cheese with truffles, served with toasted bread. I wanted to eat the warm cheese with a spoon it was so good. We also really enjoyed our pasta dishes. I had the tortelli and my husband had the tagliatelle with wild boar. Both were so good! This was just a charming little restaurant...seemed very authentic.

An outstanding restaurant. The food truly deserves huge praise – on another level entirely. We ordered truffle pici and pasta with garlic and tomato sauce, and it’s without a doubt one of the best pastas I’ve ever had – perfectly balanced, full of flavor, and cooked to absolute perfection. The chef clearly knows exactly what he’s doing – every bite feels like a tribute to real Italian cuisine. A small place with a big soul. If you’re visiting Pitigliano, this restaurant is an absolute must.
Omer A — Google review
The food was good quality, everything you expect from a typical restaurant in a historic borgo. The view from the outdoor seating is beautiful but the down side is that the seating is too close. I was practically touching the table next to us. They cram three people in a table that is only for two. And this is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars.
Meghan W — Google review
Absolutely unforgettable! Every bite was pure perfection, and the staff radiated warmth and charm, making the whole experience feel special from start to finish. Really the BEST. The Saffron Risotto was beyond divine... creamy, aromatic, and the kind of dish that lingers in your memory forever, and the Ricotta pie with seasonal vegetables on saffron fondue and parmesan is OUT OF THIS WORLD. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ HIGHLY, passionately, recommended!

The friendly and accommodating staff contribute to the warm and inviting atmosphere, ensuring guests feel right at home.
We only had one dinner in Pitigliano and I'm glad it turned out to be Dalla Pepita. I'd describe the dishes as being a typical selection and above average quality. Pasta was good and the steak was served rare the way we had asked. The owner or manager was very welcoming and served us himself. The patio in the rear has good atmosphere, although perhaps not as romantic as some restaurants deeper inside the Centro Storico. We did not have a reservation and there were lots of empty tables at opening time but they filled up quickly. The restaurant was good, but not so good that we wouldn't try somewhere else if we came back to Pitigliano.

We had a wonderful experience at Dalla Pepita. The service was warm and attentive from the moment we arrived, and the patio created the perfect setting to relax and enjoy our meal. The real standout, though, was the food—especially the gluten-free pasta. It was exceptional, every bit as flavorful and satisfying as traditional pasta, which is a rare find for anyone with celiac. This place clearly takes pride in both quality and hospitality, making it an absolute gem. Highly recommended.

We went to Dalla Pepita yesterday (02/08/2024) for a lunch. I ordered Papardelle with meat ragu. It seems that something in the food wasn't quite fresh - probably the meat. I got a nasty bacteria food poisoning and I experienced a lot of vomiting and diarrhea throughout the afternoon and night. I never felt that terrible for a long time. From the reviews it seems that this was a one-time isolated situation as the other reviews are generally very positive. The atmosphere and staff of the restaurant were ready good and nice. I'm just sad that this basically ruined the rest of our vacation in Italy.

We had the special menu at B&B La Magica Torre, consisting of a first and second course for 19 euros. I chose the pici cacio e pepe and prosciutto wrapped veal, both of which were quite enjoyable. However, they could have used more pepper. My wife ordered the gnocchi, but unfortunately it was overcooked. On the bright side, the sauce accompanying it was delicious. The servers were pleasant and accommodating.
Wonderful dinner with an amazing view and served by lovely staff. Red house wine was very tasty. Pasta and Tagliata excellent. Only the panna cotta was set too firm. Would recommend for an affordable dinner option with romantic scenery.

can't comment on the rooms, only the pizzeria. Awful. Felt like an inconvenience sitting down for a beer and pizza for lunch, the audacity of expecting a restaurant to provide me with food in exchange for money. My wife and I chose our pizzas and drinks. 5 minutes later our little starter platter, each, came out, I said there must be an error, we didn't order that. The waitress that took our order came out and said we ordered it, it is the special on the board, only doing the deal which comes with a starter. I said we only wanted pizza, starter is too much, too bad, it only comes as meal. Sure enough, we ate, and couldn't finish our pizzas. But they weren't the best pizzas anyway, so was no big deal. Waste of time and money, went cos of the location, we'd walked past it many times to our apartment off the piazza, but wish we hadn't bothered.
Kris B — Google review
O STARS! We sat down, ordered drinks, were handed menus, and then they obliged us to order the same pasta, and we wanted 4 different ones. If not, they will not serve us. At least they should have said this before ordering the drinks, not after we spent time here to decide then wait to order.. And the majority of the other restaurants in Pitigliano close at 21:30. So "thanks" to you we didn't had any other option to eat. So yeah, this was really great, thanks a lot! NEVER AGAIN! AND DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED!
Ana M — Google review
Staff is unfriendly, you feel that they're bothered by the guests and the job itself. If they're working long shifts, I recommend giving them rest or paying them more, if it's not the case, then they better be more professional. Calf meat was very good, Pizza might be compared to a good German place but not to an Italian.

I had the 'menu trattoria' special, primi+secondo for 19 euro. I had pici cacio e pepe and prosciutto wrapped veal. Both were pretty good. Could have used more pepper. My wife got gnocchi and it was overcooked, but the sauce was great. Servers were nice. Pizza looked terrible though, on the tables beside us

I stayed here with a group. The staff and owners were so kind to us and accommodating. The rooms were incredible and spacious. We were late on arrival and they were very flexible. Then our van broke down and they immediately called a mechanic for us. For dinner, they made amazing pizza the first night and incredible pasta (three flavors, pici, caccio e pepe, handmade gnocchi!!) our second night. The wine was great, and food was great, the service was great. We would've stayed longer if we could have. 100% recommend this place, stay here if you go to Pitigliano.
Hannah R — Google review
It is a cute restaurant and a nice location as you enter the beautiful city but by far the worst meal we have had in Italy so far. The caprese tomatoes were of a poor grocery store quality, bland and colorless. The Ragu was fine but nothing exciting. The pizza was less than okay. It literally tasted liked a frozen DiGiorno pizza. The service staff was kind and helpful.

Arriving at around 9:30pm, one is immediately captivated by the breathtaking restaurant landscape enveloped by a stunning arrangement of flower bushes. I highly suggest trying the bruschetta adorned with truffle sauce, as well as the pici al pasta and tortellini patate, both infused with delectable truffle flavors. To conclude this delightful dining experience, indulge in their creamy and velvety pistachio cheesecake that strikes a perfect balance without overwhelming the palate.
Probably some of the best food I’ve had in Italy. Also the restaurant has a very unique atmosphere as it is a cave, and all the staff is lovely and nice. Would recommend all visitors to Pitigliano to have a meal at Il Noce.

The food was decent, but unfortunately, a truly great dining experience involves much more than taste alone. Service, waiting time, and the attentiveness of the staff are equally important. One of the first disappointing aspects was being informed after we had already been seated that pizza was not available, this in a restaurant that has "pizza" in its very name. The waiter who seated us could have mentioned this upfront, rather than waiting until we were ready to place our drink order. Another issue was the service itself. I politely called the waitress twice to take our order, but received no response; only on the third attempt did she finally acknowledge us. Following this, the waiting time for food was longer than expected. I might have understood if the restaurant had been full, but this was not the case. Additionally, it would be helpful if the menu specified portion sizes. Some dishes were surprisingly small, occupying barely a quarter of the plate, which can be disappointing if you come with a real appetite. I cannot say the food was bad, but it was certainly not memorable either. With better communication, attentiveness, and clarity, the overall experience could improve significantly.

We ate pizza and caprisse salad and drank Pitiglano white wine. It was all very nice and delicious. We sat inside because it was cold, the ambiance was very impressive. Prices were very reasonable.

Very good food. Impeccable service from the staff. However, there is a lady at the entrance who could be more careful when dealing with the public. Gastronomy is sacred, but as soon as we arrived we felt uncomfortable. Anyway, we tried the food and it was perfect. Just this small detail, which can make a customer not want to return because they don't feel welcome.

Very beautiful and affordable restaurant. Good food but the service feels a bit newish (8 min difference between my pizza and my girl friends pasta).the food was very good and even better priced! Beautiful view and a real gem.

Unsatisfying!!! Unacceptable!!! Disappointing!!! A restaurant with the name pizzeria in it and no pizza when you seat at the table!!! If I would not have wanted pizza I would have gone to a restaurant with no pizza specific!!! From 6 pages of the menu, 3 were with a pizza that they did not want to make on a Saturday afternoon!!! Besides I was very hungry and they brought pasta in more than 40 minutes!!!! Horrible experience! They were lucky because of the cat and that at least the taste was good. But a pizzeria without pizza???? Unacceptable!!!!!

Osteria I’Gazzilloro

Italian restaurant
Located in the central square of Pitigliano, Osteria Gazzilloro offers a charming and traditional ambiance, ideal for indulging in authentic local cuisine and daily specials. The warm atmosphere enhances the dining experience, while the attentive staff impresses with their efficient service. Commencing with a selection of regional cured meats and cheeses complemented by exquisite chestnut honey, the gastronomic journey continues with bruschetta featuring locally sourced extra virgin olive oil, sausage, and liver.
Though off season only open in the weekends (Fri-Sat-Sun), this small wine taster Osteria is placed near the republic square (Piazza Della Repubblica), infront of a pictoresk fountain (Fontana delle Sette Cannelle). It's partially a family owned business that offers mainly local meat based dishes and a variety of well assorted wines. The quality of the ingredients are on point. Just be mindful to bring cash if you wish to tip their fabulous service and wonderful food; as in Italy, tips cannot be given through card payment.

A very good restaurant in the heart of the old part of Pitigliano, cozy and traditional. Serving typical local dishes and plus daily specials, with a good choice of Tuscan wines. Appetizers, pasta courses, and main dishes were all very good. Service was fine, considering we went on Eater which is really a tough day for restaurant staff. Portions are adequate, you won't get up hungry, and prices are totally fair for the food and the location. Definitely recommended.

Excellent place with very nice food and a great selection of wine. Best: when you like a wine, you can buy bottles for takeaway at very fair prices. A “must go” place 😉

The food was awful, and we had to wait for 40 minutes for pasta after we ordered. The nice scene around the place didn't help at all.

It was the first time in Italy with such unpleasant service. We sat down for a drink and to eat something, but we didn’t have chance to do it. We were asked to leave as this was place only to eat… and it was said in a really rude way

Pizzeria La Terrazza offers excellent pizza and delightful Creme Catalana. The service is exceptional, as they efficiently manage to accommodate guests on the terrace even without reservations. The terrace provides a picturesque view of the vale, set in a charming medieval building. Prices are surprisingly affordable, offering great value for money. The pizza itself is fantastically tasty, with a perfectly crispy dough and fresh ingredients combined in delicious ways. The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
Best pizza 🍕 in Pitigliano!!! Great prices and service. I’d recommend making a reservation because they are always full. The Margherita was among the best I’ve ever had. Impasto, cheese, and sauce was just divine! I highly recommend stopping there. It’s impossible to be disappointed. We ate in the lower dining room which surrounded us in the famous tufo stone that built this fantastic borgo…

We wanted to taste a proper Italian pizza and ensure that we eat where the locals eat. And that's what we found. A lovely place, very reasonably priced, with great service and awesome thin crust Italian pizza. We had the mushrooms and truffle oil pizza and the vegetable pizza. Both were excellent. Fresh. Tasty. Crispy. The host was kind and patient. In short, we truly liked it! Don't forget their deserts. They're made locally and are very good.

Pizza was good, but crust was a little too thin for my liking. Crust was thin and crunchy like a cracker. Don't get me wrong, I like a crispy crust, but not crunchy. Because of the cracker texture, it was a bit dry. Their tomato sauce and chili oil on the side was delicious though!
