Restaurant
Ribeira do Poço is a charming restaurant located in the Algarve region, known for its abundance of fresh fish and seafood. The establishment offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with well-decorated interiors. While they also serve meat dishes and pizza, their specialty lies in expertly prepared fish, complemented by local white wine. Visitors can expect an array of fresh seafood options such as clams, prawns, razor clams, tiger prawns, and mushrooms.
Just finishing one of the best lunches I’ve had in Portugal. Fabulous lamb cotêlets. An amazing almond roll dessert with delicious artisan ice cream. Definitely coming back for fish or cataplana all of which looks so fresh and tasty . Absolutely delightful service. 11 out of 10.
Lorraine M — Google review
Nice place, the service was average because the waiter did not really care! The octopus salad contained more onion than octopus, the grilled squid was awfully prepared and tasted like burned gum. Dessert was delicious! Prices are okay if you get a well prepared meal!
Ilze V — Google review
The Restaurant was almost full around 6 pm on May 4 , and we had to sit outside because we did not make a reservation. Having said, we like the outdoor seating. The exterior of the restaurant has unique decos. We ordered razor clams, Fish cataplana, and grilled limpets. The latter two are excellent. Unfortunately, razor clams had sands while tasting them. Senior servers were great too. We reserved our seats for the coming Tuesday. Prepare cash!!
Peter C — Google review
The food was tasty, and the location is nice, but I was disappointed to find out at the end that they only accept cash — this wasn’t mentioned anywhere beforehand. I didn’t have €50 in cash on me, and withdrawing money in Portugal with a foreign card comes with high fees (around €7 including conversion), which made the experience frustrating. Some of the waiters were also a bit rude, which didn’t help. Overall, good food but the service and lack of clear information could definitely be improved.
Katya B — Google review
Great gastronomy experience Food it is very well condimentaded the seafood and fish the best if you like the word (fresh) this place wins 🏆 in every aspect. Includes a big selection of traditional deserts and great wines. The service is outstanding 👏 .
John R — Google review
A really lovely restaurant in a tiny town. We came to the town just to visit the restaurant and so happy we did it. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the cataplana and also the desserts. The fish & seafood was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The service was quick & friendly. The servers were very courteous & helpful. They even speak english. The pricing is just perfect and the portions are wholesome. We loved our experience and highly recommend Ribeira do Poco. They are currently accepting cash only, but there is an atm just outside.
Monica M — Google review
Fantastic authentic food. Very attentive waiters and fresh seafood. Strawberries for dessert made it perfect.
Jane D — Google review
Easily the best food we had on our entire trip. The restaurant offers an amazing choice of fresh fish and seafood and the food quality was excellent. Be sure to try the amazing deserts as well! 5 stars, we will definitely come again. The service was very friendly and helpful. The Restaurant offers outdoor and indoor seating, electronic Payment is possible.

O Cultural is a top-notch restaurant that consistently receives five-star ratings across the board. Every aspect of their dishes is meticulously crafted to create incredible flavors. The standout dish is undoubtedly the steak, which is expertly cooked on the barbecue and bursting with taste and tenderness. From the moment you step through the door, you can feel that it's going to be a fantastic experience with excellent service, a charming setting, and generous portion sizes that leave you feeling satisfied.
Great spot for a relaxed meal! I had the falafel burger—crispy, flavorful, and super fresh—and the banana oat milk peanut butter shake, which was creamy and delicious. The ice cream was delicious as well. Friendly service and a nice outdoor setting. Highly recommend!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Been back 3 times already within a month and I live 1,5h drive away, also taking everyone I know. And it’s a hit each time! Truffle burger is my favorite but friends are raving about the bacon one too. Also the smoothies are good too! Just so sad they aren’t open in the weekends. Parking is easy down the road, cash only, bank around the corner. Don’t skip this place!

The meat was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. All the toppings complemented it really well, making the burger a real treat. The service was excellent – friendly and attentive – and the place had a great atmosphere. Definitely a spot worth visiting!

I had the best burger of my life at this place! It was perfectly balanced — every ingredient worked together so well. The patty was juicy, the bun was fresh, and the toppings were just right. From the first bite to the last, it was pure pleasure. I honestly can’t wait to go back! The staff was SOfriendly and quick, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Overall, it was one of the best burger experiences I’ve had in a while. I would definitely recommend this place to any burger lover!!!!

Nestled in the heart of Vila do Bispo, the Mercado Municipal de Vila do Bispo is a charming market hall that serves as a hub for locals seeking fresh produce. Open daily from 7 AM to 5 PM (except Sundays), this delightful spot offers an array of fresh fish, vibrant vegetables, and succulent fruits. While the fish stall tends to close around noon, visiting in the morning ensures you can snag some artisanal honey or organic delights.

Restaurant
Pisco in Vila Do Bispo is a versatile restaurant that caters to various dietary preferences, offering options for vegans and those avoiding gluten. The eco-friendly establishment boasts a diverse menu, including a delightful pizzeria. Visitors can enjoy dishes like polenta chips with tomato olive dip and celeriac cappaccio as starters, followed by mushroom steak and special pasta dishes as main courses.
We had a very friendly reply when we reserved by email and have been looking forward to going to Pisco in Vila do Bispo. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and introduced to the specials. We ordered both specials and were glad we did: the baby beetroot and burrata starter was a highlight, incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The flatbread was another standout. For mains, we enjoyed a well-made pizza, and finished with two indulgent desserts: a rich chocolate mousse and a great tiramisu. I was glad to find a nice local and different than normal option for non alcoholic drinks in a non alcoholic IPA beer and my wife had a lovely white wine from the minho region. The restaurant is very cosy and the owner curates vinyl records that play throughout the evening, even displaying the album covers on the bar. A lovely little touch. Can highly recommend and hope to be back!

One of my favorite restaurants, an amazing fusion of freshness, flavor, texture, and quality! I try their menu every season, and every time I go, I’m surprised by the new flavors, new ideas, and above all, the quality of the products (and I truly value quality). I always recommend this place to everyone and will continue to do so. Thank you, Pisco.

RUN do not WALK here, and make a reservation! Pisco is the most beautiful restaurant with an incredible chef, host, server taking care of everything. Food was delicious. Dishes were creative and culinarily delightful. Would go back again and again and again. I am a vegan and there were not shortage of options for me. Including a special featuring lion's mane mushroom. Just incredible. Mouth watering!!!

After a long, hot, salty day on the beach at Cordoama, we snuck in an early supper PISCO (love that they open at 6pm AND one of the only restaurants in the area open on Sunday's - for anyone visiting this area on day trips!). We’d been waiting to go back on our next day on the West Algarve and it was more than worth the wait. The gaspacho with ice-cold basil granita was the most refreshing start imaginable, followed by their classic but salubriously innovative watermelon tataki that is both fun and full of flavour. The homemade pasta was perfectly pillow, and the desserts: the best tiramisu we’ve ever eaten, and a dreamy lavender ice cream topped with bee pollen that tasted like summer on a spoon. We finished intime for sunset on Bordeira beach. The perfect way to end a sunday at what is easily the best on the Algarve’s west coast. We’re already dreaming of our next visit.

PHENOMENAL food. Best meal of my 2 week trip in Portugal. I was hiking the Fisherman’s Trail so have been all over but this meal will never leave me. Wow! 4 of us split off from our hiking group to come here and I’m so glad we did. We had carrot dip with carrot top pesto and hazelnut dukkah on top (with delicious bread to dip in it), some roasted chard with spring onions and almond emulsion, this incredible homemade cavatelli pasta with sheeps cheese and black garlic sauce and a pizza with caramelised onion, oyster mushrooms, crispy potatoes, rosemary and cheese. We shared all this between us. For pudding we had the meringue and then the best pudding I’ve eaten in a long time - lavender ice cream, honey and lemon curd. DELICIOUS. We’re still talking about it a week later! You must visit Pisco!!!
Jessica C — Google review
Fellow Fisherman’ s trail travellers, this is the place to eat! You’ve tasted the cataplana, the Rice with fish, all really excellent, but you need your salads and vegatables. This is the best restaurant so far. Forget the pizza’s. Delicious salad, greens and flatbread, it’s a real treat. Lovely people, Genius cook! Warmly recommended.
Gerard R — Google review
Certainly a little higher priced restaurant in the Algarve definitely justified by the preparation and taste of every dish. A must have for every vegetarian visiting the area.
Claus F — Google review
This is a very cozy and cute local restaurant where everyone seems to know everyone!! Not many tables so recommend reservations. Service was on point and we felt well looked after. A wonderful wine list with lots of natural wines and good recommendations from the host. As many reviews have mentioned the food is creative, colourful, and very fresh. We did the 5 course tasting menu. Loved each dish but my fav was the fresh pea soup! Great vegan and vegetarian options. If you can’t get a table consider the takeout pizza!

Bed & breakfast
Moinho Calmo is a charming property located near the center of Vila do Bispo, featuring accommodations spread across different buildings, including a renovated century-old windmill room. The B&B offers attention to detail and a delicious breakfast buffet with homemade products. Guests praise the comfortable and tranquil rooms as well as the warm hospitality of Nelly and Roman. The breakfast, prepared fresh every morning, is highlighted for its variety and richness.
We had the pleasure to stay at Moinho Calmo in the new wind mill. 😊 From the very moment we arrived, we felt at ease and calm. Moinho Calmo is a true haven of tranquility and positivity. ✨ 🧘‍♀️ 🧘🏻‍♂️ Nelly and Roman are extraordinary hosts. They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. 😊 The vegetarian breakfast with lots of vegan options was amazing. There are many homemade choices (bread, granola, cake and so many more) and all ingredients are locally sourced. We haven’t had a better one in any other accommodation around the globe. 🍳 🍞 🍉

What a beautiful place to stay. I spent my birthday here with a few friends and we had a blast. We were hiking through and chose to stay here, everything from the rooms to common areas was so beautiful we loved it. We tried an excellent italian place for dinner near by and had such a nice time walking the quaint streets. We spontaneously decided to join a yoga class (again the studio GORGEOUS) and we really appreciated everyone's flexibility adding us into the group and the yoga class was so amazing. Thank you so much for having us. I also cannot forget to mention the incredible breakfast :) cannot wait to come back and for a bit longer.

One of the best places I’ve ever stayed — hands down. From the moment we arrived, everything was flawless. The house is beautifully designed, exceptionally clean, and clearly maintained with pride and care. Every detail is just right. The owners are some of the kindest and most genuine people I’ve met while traveling. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and relaxed — always there when you need something, but never intrusive. And then there’s the breakfast… absolutely incredible. Freshly baked bread and cakes every morning, homemade with top-quality ingredients, and served with care. Honestly, it’s worth coming here just for that. This place is peaceful, elegant, and full of heart. I’d come back in a second — highly recommended to anyone who appreciates quality, comfort, and great hospitality. Thank You Roman And Nelly for that amazing experience and all the advises.

Amazing gem in a quaint little town. We were passing through on the Fisherman’s Trail and this was one of the highlight stays of our 8-day hike…beautiful property designed with care and attention, a warm welcome, beautiful room (the loft) and the breakfast delicious…would definitely come back!

Moinho Calmo blew us away! This is the best place we stayed while walking the Fishermen's Trail. If you get the chance to book it - just do it. Roman and Nelly's place is so much more than just a bed and breakfast. It's a gem, a sanctuary, where you instantly feel at home. We received the warmest of welcomes and were lucky to get to stay in the beautiful 200 year old mill (!) which exceeded our expectations. Amazingly comfortable bed, best nights sleep ever and absolutely incredible home made breakfast including the most delicious coffee and Swiss bircher muesli made by Roman. We're lost for words and very grateful for all the goodness and generosity we received! Thank you sooo much for everything! We'll definitely be back!

An absolutely unforgettable place — the kind you never want to leave, and one I’d return to without a moment’s hesitation. Every corner is tastefully designed with great attention to detail, spotlessly clean, and filled with a sense of warmth and comfort. You can feel the care and love put into every element. The owners are welcoming, kind, and always ready to help, making you feel like a valued guest rather than just a visitor. Breakfasts 🤩 Simply outstanding. Worth the trip alone. Freshly baked bread and cakes every morning, all homemade, top-quality, and absolutely delicious. Everything served is fresh, beautifully presented, and made with real passion. This is more than just a place to stay — it’s a place to relax, enjoy, and feel completely at home. Without a doubt, the best place in Algarve to stay.
Paulina J — Google review
Must-stay at Costa Vicentina/Algarve! Such a warm and welcoming place with hosts who make you feel at home from the first second. We stayed in the windmill for 2 nights while hiking the fishermen’s trail - the experience of sleeping in the windmill, the outstanding breakfast and all the lovely details with which the whole place is designed is worth every penny. Also got a massage there which was heavenly. Thanks for creating this safe and relaxing space! We will definitely come back since we also enjoyed Vila do Bispo as a town.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Vila do Bispo, Solar do Perceve is a delightful culinary destination that goes beyond its namesake delicacy, the percebes (goose barnacles). While these unique seafood treats are a highlight, the restaurant also boasts an impressive menu featuring regional specialties such as seafood rice, fish stew (caldeirada), and cataplana.
Hands down one of the best seafood meals we've ever eaten. One of us had the sea bass, a daily special. The skin was cooked perfectly, the meat was tender, and the presentation was great. The other one of us had the swordfish steak, which was delicious and tender. Portions were large, and sides were fresh and tasty. It seems like it's a mom and pop place, with the owners serving the dinner. Would strongly recommend if you're in the area. Note: cash only.

What a cute neighbourhood find. We went in for a classic Portuguese seafood experience and loved every minute. Great prices, delicious food, and large plates. It is cash only, so keep that in mind (no credit cards).

Super reasonable prices, friendly service, and really delicious arroz tamboril! The bolo do bolache was one of the top 3 I've tried in Portugal. Will definitely be back!
Jennifer F — Google review
Had a great time there. Not too busy, nice service, the Percebes and Clams bulhao pato were amazing! Also the almond roll. Would recommend!
Patricija K — Google review
The best food we had in our 4 days trip in algarve. Totally recommend! Everything - from soup to main dishes to deserts. Desert with carob was so good that we took more to eat at our place . I had a vegan meal and it was the best vegan meal I had in algarve.
Shahnoza C — Google review
Very nice position. In May we easily parked. They don't take credit card payments and the waitress has been pretty unfriendly already when we asked if the could process card payments. However, there is an ATM behind the corner. The service has been very poor from the beginning until the end as 2 of the 3 waiters completely ignored the table and the third one always showcased no interest in serving us and did not try to accommodate any request (E.g. Swapping boiled potatoes with fries). Their English is ok to order and have a very basic conversation. The food is ok but definitely below standards in Portugal and also overpriced. Portions are smaller than other restaurants. We ordered bread and butter, a fish soup, stuffed squids and two desserts (in the pictures). Nothing special. Definitely, we wouldn't come back.
Alberto M — Google review
I recently had the chance to try this place, and while some elements stood out, others left me a bit underwhelmed. Starting with the percebes (goose barnacles) – they were unfortunately a letdown. While I was hoping for that intense, briny burst of ocean flavor that fresh percebes are known for, these were rather bland. They lacked the signature sea essence that makes them such a delicacy, which was disappointing given their reputation and price point. On a more positive note, the amêijoas à Bulhão Pato were quite enjoyable. The clams were fresh, tender, and bathed in a fragrant garlic, olive oil, and cilantro sauce that was both delicate and full of flavor. This dish truly captured the spirit of Portuguese coastal cuisine and stood out as the highlight of the meal. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The service was courteous, and the ambiance pleasant, but the quality of the percebes did bring the overall impression down a notch. Still, worth a visit – especially for the clams.

Aki no Pôr do Sol is a budget-friendly cafe and tapas spot that offers a mix of local specialties and international dishes. Despite its unassuming appearance, the restaurant surprises diners with delicious offerings such as foot sprouts, fried moray eels, seafood dishes featuring shrimps, octopus, and squid. The prices are modest considering the quality of food served. Visitors appreciate the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere at this 17-year-old gem in southwest Europe.
Very good bar, tapas. Local and lay back vibe. The food was very nice and good value for money.

Budget friendly cafe and Tapas (but I have tried only coffee and cake) I was so surprised, there are many costumers both tourists and local. The menu provides some local dishes too. The coffee is average so does the cake. It is very cheap comparing with other places so I am okay with it. The service is great and friendly.

Stopped for breakfast and went for a ham & cheese toasted sandwich, a croissant and a milk coffee. There were all fine and much needed after biking 20km. The toasted sandwich could have been cooked longer and the milk coffee was average Portuguese quality. It was extremely busy at 9.45am mid-week.
Simon R — Google review
Price is cheap but so is quality. Octopus was swimming in oil as u can see in the picture. So were the prawns. French fries overcooked. Fish not bad actually but it's poorly cooked. Desserts save the situation. No English speakers.
Dio B — Google review
Clients aren’t treated equally and the service is beyond bad. The menus were literally thrown to us on the table and the lady ( very rude and arrogant) didn’t care at all about taking the orders. Don’t go here , we would prefer to stay hungry than step in this place again.

We have been to this small but great restaurant for 3 times. It is a 17-year-old lovely gem in the southwest of Europe. All the dishes especially the starters are perfect!! We love the berry cheese cake very much. Also, the staffs are sweet and careful.
Qi X — Google review
Not worth the price tbh. Portions were extremely small, and very bland. We had a few different dishes, and the best of it all were the fries, though they are fried from frozen, so there’s that. No taste to speak of really, there are very likely better options available. Everyone in our party felt pretty much the same, and there were a few of us.

Delicious food. Do not get fooled by the looks of the restaurant, rather small and with nothing that makes it stand out. The dishes, mainly composed of seafood ingredients like shrimps, octopus, squid... are very tasty. Prices are around 8 to 12 euros per dish.

Restaurant
Eira do Mel, located about 10 kilometers north of Sagres in Vila do Bispo, is a charming restaurant offering a mix of Portuguese favorites and unique dishes such as rabbit and wild boar. The menu also features a wide selection of fish and seafood. This Michelin-listed restaurant provides a modest and welcoming atmosphere for visitors to enjoy authentic Algarvian cuisine. With its strong reputation, it's considered one of the best restaurants in Vila do Bispo.
Excellent food, every single dish we ordered was absolutely incredible. The restaurant was recommended by a waiter in Lagos and he was spot on to say the best cataplana in the Algarve. Beutiful traditional Portuguese style decor and cosy. Highly recommend
Christiana C — Google review
Very magnificent restaurant with a great service and one of the best food I've ever eaten. I highly recommend the boar stew and the dark chocolate ice (home made). I don't understand why this restaurant has such a bad review, the food was super delicious and the service is great, the food is not even expensive (20€ for meals that whould cost in other restaurant 60-90€). I would give the restaurant 10 stars but I can only give 5.
David R — Google review
Highly recommend off the beaten path authentic português cuisine near Sagres and Lagos. We enjoyed peixe cataplana with nice wine options and dessert. The service was wonderful with a calming homey atmosphere.
Kristie W — Google review
Average food, nothing to recommend - nice waitress but mainly we were just shocked when we tried to take away a nearly full bottle of still water we had paid for and were asked to give it back to the restaurant!!! (Literally followed us into car park to tell us this). We spent 70 euros at the restaurant. This was a normal supermarket bottle of water, not an own brand, special bottle of any sort. Super strange behaviour by the owner and just made us feel really unwelcome. I wasn’t even going to leave a review as I only do with very bad or very good options but really felt this was poor form.
Lea S — Google review
The food here is exceptional, full of local delights and an incredibly homely atmosphere. The interior is welcoming, and the service is warm and friendly. Highly recommend the octopus dish, and a tart to finish with. Each course is unique and spectacular. Will recommend to anyone going to the Algarve.
Ruán H — Google review
Paula the owner and waitress is absolutely amazing! She will do everything to enjoy yourself! Her husband leads the kitchen, which serves dishes you will not have anywhere else! For us it was an ad-hoc, but great choice for something special at a great atmosphere!
Aron A — Google review
We had an incredible dinner, everything was delicious and the hosts were absolutely lovely. Highly recommend their octopus dishes, their almond tart, and anything they serve that has figs in it.
Gammandromedae — Google review
Amazing people and food! One of our favorite restaurants for sure 👌 The food is made with incredible local ingredients and is the simply delicious and the owner and staff couldn’t be kinder and more attentive. If you haven’t been you need to go!

Day 2

East side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the east side side of town. Start the day off with Praia da Cordoama, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Centro de Interpretação de Vila do Bispo. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Lovely very wide beach with wild Atlantic waves. Lovely beach for a long walk and stunning views. Go see. Pics from February visit.

The best beach we saw in our Portugal road trip. What a cool place! Small parking, ATM and shop present. You can rent surfing gear too. Easy drive from Vila de Bispo. Was here about 8 AM so there was fog, is probably better views later in the day.
Hanne H — Google review
Like walking on Mars’s surface. You can easily spent the day here. Late September was a great time to visit. Parking is probably an issue in peak season.
Peter K — Google review
One of the greatest scenarios I have ever experienced! Perfect for kids to run around in the sand and perfect for surfers as well!
Daniel C — Google review
Praia da Cordoama is a must-visit when you’re in Portugal. The view from the miradouro is exceptional, especially at sunset. It’s good to have a car to get around this area because it is more difficult to access on foot. But it is definitely worth it!!
Fatima — Google review
We found this beach quite by accident and we loved it. It was at least 400-500 feet from the cliff face to the waters edge and the sand was quite firm so very easy to walk on. This beach was enormous and relatively empty, I joked about it later by saying they averaged 1 person per acre and the noise from the waves was delightful. There were maybe 20 surfers of varying skill levels to match the variety of waves that came in on long swells, some only a couple of feet high and some that I would estimate at 6-8 feet. I am talking about the waves now, not the surfers. Plenty of parking and a beach bar that looked inviting but I was the driver so I did not sample their wares. I loved this beach and that day it was heaven on earth.

As many said, to do not go to this point, instead go to ; 37°05'46.4"N 8°57'05.0"W. The view of the beach is amazing, especially if you have the chance to go during a very windy day and if the ocean has big waves. Note that the road is very very bumpy and you have to drive very slowly while trying to avoid rocks and holes on your way there, so it's not necessarily for everyone and every car! But the view and the feeling you get up there is worth it. It's much nicer and impressive than Cabo Da Roca and way less touristy!
François C — Google review
We did a hiking tour of about one hour from Vila do Bispo to the Torre de Aspa. The road is rather boring - we recommend to go by car. Also do not only stop at the Torre de Aspa - which is rather boring - but go to Ponte de Aspa: there you will have a stunning view and can visit a nice streetart ruin / house.

Absolutely recommendable restaurant. Great atmosphere, very friendly, very good enjoyable dishes Portuguese Style. Reasonable prices. Unfortunately they didn't share the recipes. Try the tuna spread with olives and the authentic bread as a starter. We enjoyed it a lot. Thank you!!! Manuela and Petra

Stunning place, but if you want to drive there, be aware that the roads are not paved with a lot of bumps and big rocks. Doesn't recommend if you don't have a high suspension car.

Amazing viewpoint. You need a car that you can drive on unpaved roads... It's absolutely worth the view ...
Jonathan S — Google review
Beautiful area, gorgeous scenery, untouched landscapes, absolutely recommended. Usually it is a bit windy and fresher than further inland in the Algarve. The Costa Vicentina provides for wonderful walks and long hikes. Some of the views and beaches are absolutely breathtaking.

Museu de Vila do Bispo - Celeiro da História

Museum
The Museu de Vila do Bispo - Celeiro da História, which opened its doors in January 2024, is a captivating destination for anyone interested in the rich cultural heritage of this remarkable region. This museum offers an immersive journey through time, exploring everything from geological formations to ancient human settlements. Visitors can marvel at excavated pottery and tools that tell the story of prehistoric peoples and their connection to this part of the Iberian Peninsula.
What a wonderful museum about one of my favourite places on earth. I thought I knew a lot about Vila Da Bispo (I've even written an article about it), but I learnt so much. Exhibits are labelled in Portuguese and English, with exhibits from prehistory up to present day. Very helpful staff and a lovely new building.
Andrew C — Google review
This new museum walks you through the long and amazing history of this important and key part of the Iberian Peninsula. From the geological formation, ancient occupation by pre-historic peoples and possibly some of the first evidence of homosapien occupation in the Iberian Peninsula. You walk the path through history following dinosaur tracks, showcasing various finds from archeological explorations, through Roman, Islamic, Christian occupations. The importance of this part of the world in allowing discovery of sea routes around Africa under Henry the Navigator. It was also fascinating to learn more about the series of very early menhirs (and dolmens) that may be some of the earliest known across the globe. Go, learn, enjoy, appreciate. Many paths have been walked throughout time and it is fascinating to take this glimpse. The museum is superbly curated and presented and we are glad that we got to enjoy some time there.

An excellent museum showing the history of this lovely part of the world from the depths of geological time, through the Romans and Henry the Navigator up to the modern day. Really well laid out and fascinating content. It's highly recommended and I look forward to visiting again soon

Bar da Praia is a beachside restaurant that offers a wonderful dining experience with its delicious food and refreshing drinks. The staff is friendly and efficient, providing quick service in a lively atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful ocean views while indulging in tasty dishes such as Dorada, fish soup, and salads at reasonable prices. Whether it's for a quiet dinner or a quick coffee or beer by the beach, Bar da Praia provides an enjoyable spot to relax and take in the serene surroundings.
An amazing stop off on a long bike ride. Super friendly staff, awesome views from the decked seating area and delicious grilled chicken! Just be prepared for the long steep hill on the way out of here, electric bike or car recommend 🤣

Simply the best restaurant in the world! Really I don't understand some reviews around here. This place is not for luxury, is just wonderful to have a good food really on the beach, feel the ocean, etc. And I think the owners are doing a such a great job, is not easy to bring all the food and drinks so close to the beach. For me it's maybe the best restaurant in the world!
Tavi L — Google review
Friendly staff that work quickly to serve lovely food and drinks. We got here mid afternoon and they were open for visitors without any restrictions. Been back several times since and it has not changed. Just be aware of the opening times. The restaurant opening is seasonal from sometime in April until sometime in October. (2025 from 10 April until 31 October. Cash only, No WiFi (just beer).

Overpriced with bad service not a good combination. Location is brilliant but you dont need to go to the restaurant to see the sunset
Senador V — Google review
Fellow cyclist on the Eurovelo 1, when stopping to have a snack or a drink, if you can steer off this place. If you don't guess where they expect you to park your bike, they all quickly come swatting you aggressively like a fly. No need to support or tolerate this rudeness and arrogance, especially when there's more options in the nearby beaches
Jorge P — Google review
One of the best surf beach with the worst restaurant. 18€ for french fries and a „salad“ - very disappointing after so many healthy beach bars around surf spots.
Thomas H — Google review
It’s hard to put in words how bad this restaurant is. The food was disgusting but the service was genuinely the worst I have experienced globally. Apparently, asking for just a side of fries is an insult and asking to go to the toilet is completely unreasonable in this place. Don’t even mention the myriads of flies harassing you during your stay and just let the picture speak for itself. (You won’t) Enjoy!

Extremely slow and arrogant service, abismally disgusting food, open area invaded by wasps and no rules whatsoever on pets. Simply… TERRIBLE!

O Palheiro is a welcoming and efficient establishment, even during busy times. With affordable prices and delectable meals, it offers a delightful taste of local cuisine. The staff deserves five stars for their exceptional service. Unlike other places that can be harsh when under pressure, O Palheiro maintains professionalism and friendliness throughout. While there may be a slight wait for food, patrons can enjoy starters in the meantime.
The second time we came here on our holiday because the steak was so fantastic. Tonight we had the mixed meat grill which was great value. A good restaurant highly recommended. Kids loved the puddings.

Restaurant
Castelejo is a stunning destination in the South Algarve, perfect for those seeking breathtaking views during sunrise and sunset. Easily accessible from popular towns like Faro, Albufeira, or Lagos, it offers a delightful dining experience right by the beach. Visitors rave about the generous portions of delicious seafood dishes such as shellfish and monkfish rice, making it an ideal spot to refuel after a long hike.
Truly wonderful. The highlight was the two ladies and the young man who served us. They were absolutely delightful. The cakes were incredible. Thank you for a special experience in a unique and naturally wild environment. Note for others: We were there slightly later than the advertised closing time on Google of 5pm, so it may not be correct.
Nikki P — Google review
What a spot! We experienced it at lunch time as a nice breeze blew through midway through a long hiking day. It turned out to be the perfect resting spot. The tuna salads were large, varied and tasty (especially with a little touch of olive oil). Then, with the added serving (1 to share) of the potatoes fries, it made for a perfect beach side lunch. Staff very friendly and engaging. The view, perfection.
Don C — Google review
We had the shellfish and monkfish rice which was really tasty and a huge portion! This place has a great view/location, so they could easily get away with bad food, but they don't. The only downside for me was the toilets were really quite grim... otherwise a brilliant spot! Other reviews seem to be upset about the rules (no dogs/swimsuits etc) but given how popular a spot it is, I can understand why they have to be strict with such things!
Michael T — Google review
A good beach restaurant with good seafood and fish. The service is good even though it tends to be somewhat slow. A bit disappointed after asking if they had sardines, they confirming, seating us, just to tell after that, actually, nope! The clams and seafood are very good though…probably not worth the long trip here but if you are close by or are at the beach, good spot to pause and eat!
João D — Google review
TL;DR: don’t plan to eat here unless you want your plans changed by them, there’s another restaurant on the most adjacent beach where the staff is much nicer (2 min by car, 10 min walking on the beach) Yesterday we were planning to spend the day on the Castelejo beach and eat dinner in this restaurant waiting for the sun to set. We got there in the morning to try to book a table. The sign at the entrance says the place closes at 8pm, however the menu says their specialties are available until 6.00pm. Okay, fair enough. Another sign points out they don’t accept credit cards (in the big 2025), so since we didn’t have cash we decided that before going there in the evening we will take a walk on the beach to get some at the ATM (which is close to the other restaurant I mentioned btw). We ask if it was possible to make a reservation, the girl at the entrance says it’s not possible. She also says not only their specialties are not available after 6 but the entire kitchen will close at 6.30. We then ask if it was possible to grab some food to take away and she says we are only allowed to take out drinks and ice cream. Despite all these limitations we plan to come over at 5.45, eat there and see the sunset after dinner on the beach. We arrive at 5.45pm sharp, the very same girl asks us if we are there to eat or drink and since we’re there for dinner she gives us a table. she comes back with the menus, she leaves only to come back again after 15 seconds telling us the kitchen was closed already. We left immediately astounded by how rude that girl was and how unorganized they were. We went to the beach nearby where they have a restaurant with much nicer people and good seafood.

Wonderful beach, good for surfing or if you want to escape the crowded beaches. Some places look like scenes from a distant planet. There is a bar with food, drinks and toilets. No mobile net or wifi - you have to talk to other people.😎
Jürgen M — Google review
The restaurant has the most beautiful view on the ocean, you can see the surfers from here. The cheese omelette is great and comes with home made chips. The best place for lunch after surfing in castelejo. Service isn't always perfect but efficient.
Twan M — Google review
Fabulous beach. Glorious views. The restuarant is not included in the five star assessment. Food pretty mundane, unexceptional and expensive... but this restuarant is not alone in that. Fleecing tourists seems stock in trade round here . Visit for the beach and a beer. And take a picnic.
