Glenfiddich Distillery, located in the picturesque village that is an essential stop on Speyside's Malt Whisky Trail, offers traditional Victorian distillery tours. The area is not only renowned for its whisky but also for being home to one of the best salmon rivers. Visitors can explore the surrounding countryside with its vibrant colors and visit classic distilleries like Glenfiddich, Macallan, Aberlour, and Glenlivet.
I had a great time touring this rightfully famous distillery in Dufftown! The distillery is beautiful, sitting in a scenic valley, they just recently added a beautiful new still house. The tour is a great value: in 1h30 you get to learn about the history of this family distillery, visit the facility with a step-by-step of the whisky making process, and get to try 4 different drams, including a special edition. They take away kits for drivers, but I would recommend leaving the car home and coupling this visit with a ride on the Keith-Dufftown heritage railway for a full-day experience!

Beautiful & Legendary Distillery We decided to visit Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, as we were visiting the nearby Balvenie castle. We really enjoyed it and thought this place was great. It looks the part, a bit Victorian a bit Scottish, it is really nice & well maintained. I have know this Whisky my whole life, even living in Switzerland, somehow it was always in the bars, clubs I was going to. I imagined it would of been a larger and more industrial place. I was happy to see it was more normal, smaller, etc. This is somewhat in the heart of Speyside's whisky region do visit if you can! The tour (like most of them in Scotland explains the production and making process, of whisky. Really worth your time and highly recommended from us. Note they also have a great shop and bar.

Had my first-ever distillery tour at Glenfiddich! Our guide was hilarious! super engaging and very informative 😂 The place itself is absolutely stunning and filled with history. The whisky tasting was alright, but it was still really fun to learn the story behind the drinks. Such an interesting and memorable experience!
Mugsey — Google review
Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, friendly, always stopped to ask us if we had any questions, and took his time with us and didn’t rush things along. The tasting room was super nice, very exclusive feeling, and there were only a handful of us on the tour together, so it felt very personal. 100% recommend.
Will V — Google review
Unforgettable Tasting Experience The Glenfiddich 1990 and 1992 Sherry Oak casks are hands down the best whiskies I’ve ever tasted, truly exceptional! Deep, rich, and perfectly balanced. A standout moment in an already fantastic tasting.
Jesper C — Google review
We were passing the Glenfiddich Distillery when we met a very friendly security guard. He invited us to have a look around so we did. All the tours were booked up. We chatted with various people and visited the shop which was very busy. Next time we visit we might book a tour and that would give a better understanding of this very popular industry.
Allan M — Google review
Of course, Glenfiddich isn't exactly an insider tip. But the tour of the distillery is unparalleled—and we experienced many on our tour. Glenfiddich is one of the gold standards when it comes to Scottish whisky and shows that even a large distillery can impress with individuality and quality.
Claudius G — Google review
Great distillery. DO THE TOUR! Get there early and do the first one for the day. Our guide was Drew and he was brilliant. Well worth it.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Balvenie Castle, located on the northern outskirts of Dufftown, is a 13th-century ruin that still exudes a commanding presence. Originally built as a heavily fortified stronghold, it features an imposing curtain wall that stands as one of the few remaining examples of 13th-century military architecture in Scotland. The castle was later redesigned in the 16th century to become a genteel Renaissance home with various amenities for its time.
After visiting Dufftown Distillery we carried on to visit this impressive castle. This castle is included in your Historic Scotland Membership so free entrance for me. There is a small souvenir shop and one of the guides gave us a very interesting introduction. Once inside it is much larger than it looks and you can climb the spiral staircases. What is left is well cared for and there are some information notice boards. Well worth a visit it isn't expensive £6 and you are making a contribution to the upkeep.
Allan M — Google review
We randomly ended up at this castle after finding out another was closed. We are sure glad we did. The castle comes with a gift shop and tour guides. We were given a great and informative tour by guide, Matthew, were able to explore much of the towers, and ended with getting to get up close and personal with some highland coos at Matthew's guidance. What an amazing accidental stop. Highly recommend and well worth the price of the ticket.

Legendary & Iconic Speyside Castle This is a well preserved castle really close to the main distilleries. So if you want to visit one whilst visiting distilleries, then this is a really good choice. The Castle itself is very impressive and really well maintained. As mentioned by many reviewers you can climb up a few staircases to get a better view of the ins and outs of the castle. This is a graded & listed building so obviously you are not supposed to degrade anything. They have a tiny parking (like for four cars) and a small shop. The staff is really nice and super helpful to understand the history of the place. Highly recommended visit from me.
Paul V — Google review
Balvenie Castle is a striking ruined fortress located about 1 km north of Dufftown in the Moray region of Scotland’s Speyside area. Originally known as Mortlach Castle, it was constructed in the 12th or 13th century as a stronghold for the powerful Comyn family (specifically the Black Comyns, Earls of Buchan). The castle features a rare example of 13th-century Scottish military architecture, including a massive curtain wall and a wide, flat-bottomed ditch that once encircled it on three sides for defense. You have a chance to explore the ruin without a crowd of other people. The castle is easy to find and get to - it is a short drive from the Glenfiddich parking lot. The gentleman who assisted us was wonderful - he knew the history and was passionate about its story. There are Highland Coos in the field across from the castle parking lot. Recommended.
Shane G — Google review
The castle was closed for the season, but you could still walk around the outside, and visit the cows in the fields around the castle. The low wire fence around the castle grounds can easily be stepped over for a closer look if you were so inclined, but some of the best photos were from up on the hill in front of the main entrance.
Will V — Google review
We visited on a Saturday. It was not very busy. Matthew was manning the shop. He explained the moat that's still visible, apparently a rare feature. He shared knowledge of how they built the walls and how long it took to build a castle partly due to Scottish weather. The castle is amazing with robust repairs and we were able to climb several spiral stairways to see much more than in other castles from this period. Matthew's knowledge really added to our enjoyment as did the plackards filled with information. This is well worth a visit.
Cameron P — Google review
Single track road up to the car park in front of the shop ticket office. There is only room for 4 cars. Entrance fee payable. It is a substantial building and most of it is accessible. There are barriers up where walls are unsafe. Still able to climb two stairs for a look over the grounds inside and out.
Joseph K — Google review
Lovely castle, with a very knowledgeable guide staff member. There are two turrets which you can climb up most of via the spiral staircase. Parking is very limited.

The Glenfiddich Distillery Visitor Centre is a must-visit in Speyside, offering an impressive stillhouse, a delightful restaurant, and engaging behind-the-scenes tours. It stands out for its diverse array of choices and expert guidance at The Whisky Shop Dufftown. Visitors can enjoy detailed tours with proper tasting sessions and even have the opportunity to bottle their own Glenfiddich Whisky. The warm and enthusiastic guides make the experience truly memorable.
This was a last minute adventure on our trip to Aberdeen. Approx 1 hr 30 min from where we were staying. The staff at the Welcome Center were amazing. We did not book in advanced and for some reason got lucky enough to get on the tour. The Staff said this was very unusual but it was a Monday and we did get lucky. This place is amazing and very very beautiful. A mix of newer and older building which shows how much they have grown. Our tour guide was very good and we learned a lot about the history. Small tasting at the end. If you are driving you are not allowed to drink which is smart in my opinion but they do give you a few small take away tasters of the 12, 14, 15, and 18 yr old. Cost was about 30 gbp for the tour. Would love to come again.
MSG M — Google review
We did a guided tour which was really good! The guide showed all of the behind scenes of the distillery and explained how the whiskey is made. The tasting was fun even though I didn’t try anything because I was driving. But I did get a sample boks with the whiskey the rest was trying. Super friendly staff that was really professional and service minded!

Even if you don’t drink scotch (your loss) this place is fascinating. The chemistry that goes into making whiskey is complex and interesting. The grounds at Glenfiddich and well maintained and beautiful. The smell coming from the stills is wonderful. They offer tours (take them up on it) and tastings (ditto). The gift shop is large and has great gifts for jealous family and friends back home. Highly recommended. You will like it.

One of the best tours of the whole speyside region. You get to learn the rich history of the whisky and the Grants family. There is a bit of museum with memorabilia from even the beginnings and than you go and see the actual production. Beautiful, pristeen production area where they show you every step. Our guide was such a character and true whisky lover. We connected right away. At the end of the tour there is a whisky tasting. Underage kids can go on the tour they just miss this part. They even showed us an unreleased whisky too. On the way out you can stop at their bar and sample even more great drinks or by Glenfiddich branded gifts. They have a cask on site from which you can handfill your bottle
Szabolcs J — Google review
The distillery is nicely displayed and the shop and bar room are beautiful with a lot of selection. Sadly, the whisky prices are higher than on most websites and some things are massively overpriced. The distillery tour was very good, the guide had much information and the tour is recommendable. The tasting, however, left much to be desired. Whilst at first told we had much time for the four whiskys, it was rushed and ended abruptly. It felt like the stuff wanted to kick us out. Although they told us the bar was still open, the stuff also declined our question for another dram with harsch words. One of the staff members at the shop was really kind and helpful and gave us the chance for some tasting tests at the counter. Big thanks to John, who saved our experience in the end. He willingly gave us information about the whiskys, answered the questions friendly and sovereign.
Kima M — Google review
Mary gave us a truly immersive and insightful tour, teaching us not only GF's unique process, but their incredible story. Truly, the GIANT of Speyside and of the entire whisky industry! As an Austin bootstrapper, I very much appreciated the family effort of William Grant & sons with their adoption of Cardhu's old equipment and their keen eye for opportunity with Balvenie, a mere 5 years after founding the original. Staying independent has allowed the company to chart its course, but also for whisky itself, creating so many innovations along the way, including the first tours and marketing of single malts. Oh, and the fun side project of Hendricks Gin! Truly the pinnacle of what was an absolutely immersive and amazing journey through all 5 whisky regions, 25 distilleries in all. Thank you GF for all that you are and Mary, for being such an incredible ambassador!
Bijoy ( — Google review
We just looked into the shop. Gifts and various whisky products for sale up to £1250 for a 31 year old malt. Tasting sessions are also possible here. Worth a look around for a different type of gift.
Joseph K — Google review
Visited here for a whiskey tour and tasting experience. I do not like whiskey (I was accompanying my sister who loves single malt) but I still found the tour very interesting. They are so thoughtful and give a driver's pack for tasting so drivers don't need to pay full price and miss out on the tasting!

What a great place! We've passed this very many times, but decided to stop for a quick lunch. We had the homemade mushroom soup with a scone, and another with the quiche. It's a nice touch when three so can be combined with a range of options. Great value for such lovely food. The cakes, and high tea all looked amazing, but we will have to leave that for another visit.

Sidings is a great cafe stop just on the edge of Dufftown at Dufftown station. Great coffee and breakfast in the converted railway carriage. It was great to learn about Dufftowns connection to the Canadian Pacific Line in the room at the station, great information, highly recommend!

Wow, what a find. We had an unexpectedly excellent lunch here today. Delicious food, interesting menu and excellent service. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cakes to die for and if you haven't had haggis before try the haggis baked potatoes. We will be back here before long.

Seven Stills French Restaurant and Malt Whisky Bar/Lounge in Dufftown is a charming place run by the friendly owners, Rose and Patrick. The restaurant offers a delightful fusion of French classics with a Scottish twist, featuring dishes like grilled goats cheese salad, traditional French onion soup, local Scottish wild venison lasagna, and Burgundy beef cooked in wine. The warm welcome and personal touch from the owners create an exceptional dining experience.
My wife and I walked over for dinner from the Abbeyfield B & B and I'm sure glad we did. I made the reservation about a month ago, making sure we had a place to eat dinner our first night in Dufftown. My wife and I made the 5 min walk and met Rose at the black door. Our meal was more than dinner, but a dining experience. We ordered drinks and a few minutes later Patrick the Chef came out to our table to greet us. This was the first time either of us had the chef to talk to us. Then, the smoked duck breast came out for us to sample while we talked. Then the crab while we tasted some whiskys. My wife had the mushroom lasagna, and I had the beef bourguignon. Both of our entrees were like nothing we had tasted before. Simply fantastic! For desert, we shared the Traditional Tarte Bourdaloue with an espresso. Wonderful way to finish off such a fine meal. The whole time we were there, there was never any rush for us to hurry and finish. Such a wonderful place. When we had finished, Rose invited us to take a walk through her garden in the back, which was amazing. Seven Stills is a place you must experience during your stay in Scotland!

We had a blast! I can really recommend the whisky & chocolate pairing. Rose made us feel like at home - played some board games, had some really good drinks and delicious tapas. We‘ll defineteley return next time we‘re in Dufftown. Lots of love from Germany!

We had a fantastic dinner at the seven stills. They have recently redecorated and they opened up just for our dinner group. The inside was beautifully decorated with a very homey vibe. The whisky selection is incredible and the food was excellent. Snails from France, incredible French onion soup and other great starters. The highlight was the beef bourguignon. This was the chefs family recipe and prepared/cooked for a week. Desserts were also great with the cheese plate (best bread ever) and crème brûlée. Highly recommend all to visit this great restaurant!
Samson W — Google review
Really nice restaurant/whisky bar run by really nice people. A warm welcome on arrival and since I was flying solo i was offered the chance to sit at the bar which was ideal. The food was really amazing, huge portions and jam packed full of flavour. Patrick the chef took time to chat with all the customers and it was nice to hear his passion for food and using the best quality local ingredients and it certainly shows in his cooking. Patricks wife Rose runs the show front of house and does a grand job whipping up cocktails, serving food and taking time to have a wee chat on the fly. The whisky selection is huge so there's bound to be plenty of choice for even the fussiest connoisseur. If you're in the area do yourself a favour and book a table I doubt there's many better places to eat a meal within a couple of hundred miles.

Fantastic food. Did open for our group after reservation (normally closed on Friday). Very friendly Lady runs the pub. French husband in the kitchen: creative ideas! And a very long list of great Whisky's too. If you are in Dufftown a must visit!

Wonderful dinner! Felt like family by the time we left. Rosamond and Patrick were superb in customer service with history about Dufftown too. Beginning with our French Onion soup to ending with whiskey flambeed fruit cake EVERYTHING was a delight. The ambience and character of Seven Stills was authentically Highlands. We will be back with a group! Can't wait ❤🖒

There is something special in this restaurant and it is the owners, not everyday you are greeted by the chef Patrick (owner) asked for the food quality. His wife Rose, the kindest person is serving with smile and warmth. The food was exquisite, the whisky collection is impressive. It was like we were in Wonderland of food and drinks. You have to go there at least once!

This was a great experience! They have a wonderful garden where you can sit and enjoy your drink. It's a wonderful Scottish French kitchen. The chef gave us interesting experience through the menu we have chosen with a lot of passion. The dinner was fantastic. If you have time left, you can use their lounge to enjoy a coffee and whisky.

"The Capercaillie" is a charming restaurant located in the small town of Dufftown. It offers a delightful tapas-style dining experience with a variety of flavorful dishes. The menu features options like smoked salmon ceviche, roast carrot and beets, chicken thighs, haddock tempura, wood pigeon with red currant and black pudding in whisky jus, and roast beets and carrots with whipped feta.
Beautiful food! Well balanced small plates with tonnes of flavour and beautifully served. Staff were great and wine was lovely too! So glad we got here for lunch on Sunday.

The food is good but not value for money. I know it’s tapas style but the portion is very small for the price. The hake was kinda bland if not for the dressing. The cauliflower was the best dish for us. I was seated at the table where I had a good view of the tower clock. However, the restaurant had that oily smell during service.

What a find! Just loved our evening, thanks to the team for such a warm and friendly evening and such terrific food. Every dish was beautifully prepared and balanced, I just loved the beets and herbs, and the bavette steak was standout tender and perfectly pink. Oh, and what about the black pudding scotch egg? The Keith & Dufftown Railway, located in Dufftown, offers a nostalgic train journey on a vintage 11-mile line from Dufftown to Keith. Operated by the dedicated volunteers of the Keith and Dufftown Railway Association, this old railway features 1950s diesel motor units running on weekends from Easter to September. Visitors can enjoy friendly volunteers at the classic train station and onboard the vintage carriages.
Had a fabulous time at the railway, lovely friendly staff that were so accommodating of our missed bus and allowing us to transfer our tickets. Had a great time with the driver experience hugely recommended and overall can't recommend a visit enough. Thanks guys.

Wife and I enjoyed a high tea on the Dufftown-Keith Railway. Sadly we were the only people doing it, it was totally enjoyable with a tea pot with a thermos flask to refill when needed.the high tea was a delight with the usual suspects. Train ride was enchanting totally staffed with volunteers and a real ticket inspector. Ride to Keith was fun, on the return we were in the Dram-Tram which was a specially renovated scotch whisky themed carriage. Lots of fun to be had with the bartender. Totally worth doing.

Highly recommendable experience, for train enthusiasts, and perfect for a day trip coupled with a whisky distillery tour on either end of the line. Beautiful scenery, interesting rolling stock, and they have a small museum (free) at Dufftown station. Two things to keep in mind: The line offers 3 services both ways, only from Friday to Sunday. If you have booked a ticket in advance, you should still get a paper ticket by showing it at the station. The staff, all volunteers, are very passionate about this little line, and welcoming to passengers. They can happily tell you everything about its history and the sights along the way.

Whenever we have been up to Keith visiting family The Heritage Railway had stopped running due to time of year, so coming a different time was a good opportunity to go on it. Keith station is a beautiful station, well looked after and well run. You can buy your tickets direct from the ticket office either on the day or prebook for the next as I did (open days trains run) or on line where you swap the paper ticket at the ticket office before embarking. We boarded the train, loads of seating and headed for Dufftown which takes around 40 minutes travelling at a lovely slow speed so you are able to enjoy the scenery. At Dufftown Station there is a lovely cafe, a converted carriage that sells a variety of food and drinks and is not overpriced, there is also a small museum, shop and toilets on the station too. On the way back we had a member of staff giving out lots of interesting information about the trains and the areas we were travelling through. A really good few hours out that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Just a few photos of many that I took.

Costcutter is a convenience store chain that provides a variety of baked, fresh, and packaged goods along with alcohol sales. It offers a nice assortment if you are unable to visit each individual distillery. The prices are fair and competitive, although slightly higher compared to purchasing directly from the distillery. However, this allows for savings in terms of time and petrol required for the trip. Customers have found great value in buying quality whisky at Costcutter, as they provide discounts on noteworthy options.
After visiting the Glenfiddich distillery, I was looking for a very special bottle of whisky—one that had been discontinued. Unfortunately, I was told it was sold out. The guide mentioned there might be a chance at the Costcutter, so I decided to try my luck. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by two incredibly kind people. Even though the bottle wasn’t on the shelf, one of them went to check in the back—and to my surprise, they still had one left! Their kindness and effort truly made my day. A perfect shop with outstanding service. Highly recommended for any whisky lover!

Nice collection if you can't make a trip to each distillery. Prices are decent and competitive. Obviously a bit more than buying from the distillery, but you save on the time and petrol for the trip.

Sightseeing Tours
The Balvenie Distillery, located in Dufftown, Moray, is a renowned whisky distillery founded in 1892 by William Grant. The distillery stands out for its use of home-grown barley and the presence of coopers on site. Visitors can expect a comprehensive tour that provides insight into the distillation process and its rich history.
The Balvenie Tour is probably one of the best distillery tours you could take. What sets it apart is that Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that is fully self-sufficient, handling everything from malting to mashing, distilling, and coopering their own casks. Our guide, Brian, was hilarious and kept the tour engaging with his great sense of humor and wealth of knowledge. He made the entire experience not only informative but also incredibly fun. If you’re a whisky lover, this tour is an absolute must!
Lashane F — Google review
Specifically chose to tour Balvenie as I’m a big enjoyer of their whisky and what a great decision it was! This was the best distillery tour we did in Scotland and the tasting session was great. Came away with a few bottles to fill the suitcase up.
James H — Google review
Ryan gave us a great tour!! Loved the cooperage!! The filled hand tasting in the warehouse!! The shared warehousing with Glenfiddich and shared space for Washback and Mash Tun with Kininvie are impressive!!
Lars R — Google review
This is one of the best tours I have ever been on. Morag made this such a fun experience. She was clearly knowledgeable but what was most appealing was her obvious admiration and loyalty to her company. This family run business makes you feel right at home by welcoming you with refreshments and comfy leather couches before a very extensive tour of the grounds. So much informative and fun facts, she had us laughing and having a lovely time. Then finish off with a great tasting that was not skimpy. We left with some scotch and other fun things from the gift shop. Overall a fantastic experience. If you are looking for a great tour in Speyside, don’t skip Balvenie.
Chelsea S — Google review
This might have been my favorite distillery tour ever! The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the whisky. And a very cool location. Would visit again!
Eric R — Google review
Outstanding 3 hour tour and tasting. A must do if you can book early enough to get a ticket. I remember this forever.
Pat S — Google review
We are no whisky connoisseur but happened to be in the area so dropped in to check out the distillery. There were some last minute cancellations and we got on a tour! Tour was more expensive (£75) than some distillery but was comprehensive and we got a good understanding of their cooperage which is great since we did not manage to join a tour at the Speyside Cooperage. Guide was patient and did not rush through the tour, allowing for questions. No photos on most part of the tour though. However, tasting room which was the finale of the tour was small (a bit like a break room for staff) and a bit letdown in terms of overall experience compared to other distilleries. The drivers pack was just clear bottles and one has to write and put on own labels.
Grace S — Google review
Excellent tour experience presented by the guide Tino. He distilled knowledge about the whisky-making process and motivation towards whisky. Plenty of time for questions, which were precisely and entertainingly answered. He was kind enough to swap one of the tasting bottles to accommodate my interests. The whole 2.5 hours tour sparked motivation and curiosity about The Balvenie and whisky in general. The distillery is great, with some unique features such as their own cooperage and malting floors (all reachable through the tour). Good tour for learning and tasting nice drams whether you are a novice or an expert on whisky.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Auchindoun Castle is a 15th-century stone fortress located near the River Fiddich. It was built by John, Earl of Mar, and has a tragic history as he was murdered by his own brother shortly after its completion. The castle offers breathtaking views and provides insight into its historical significance. Although not easily accessible for pushchairs or wheelchairs due to a steep narrow path, it is well worth the visit for its beautiful surroundings and intriguing ruins.
Auchindoun, aside from being hard to spell, was one that felt like "if we are nearby, we'll stop", even though we had it on our itinerary. Once again, the countryside was beautiful as we drove through. Unfortunately, the official parking area for the castle is about a quarter mile down the road and with our older father (76), this would have been a show stopper. However, since it was basically after hours (though there are no posted hours for this castle ruin), we drove up to the homes at the gate entrance and parked there (not sure we were supposed to!). This made the approach manageable for dad, and we all got to explore the ruins. Vistas, arches, green countryside, a ruined 3-story tower in the center, it was all pretty amazing.
Duane R — Google review
Once you’ve negotiated the (very) rough track from the main road, and parked your car, the walk up to the castle is great. The castle itself is up on a hill overlooking a beautiful glen. The ruins are not extensive, but are bonny and the setting is secluded and peaceful. No entry charge either 😊
Robin R — Google review
Amazing castle ruin, with quite a hidden and rough track to get there. The car park is small, 5 cars max and there is a short walk to the castle itself. It's free to enter and has stunning views surrounding the castle itself, great spot for a picnic when the whether is good!
Glen C — Google review
Just a very short stroll from our accommodation at The Castle Byre on Parkhead Farm. An interesting history and the views are fabulous on a clear day!
Murray P — Google review
Auchindoun is incredibly impressive and dominates the landscape. A place of power and might, held by the Gordons. The track from the road to the car park is steep and rough but can be driven, with care, by a car. Parking for four cars then a decent path to the castle. The walk is about 1km, but this introduces the castle in a more dramatic way

Fantastic ruins, and stunning views. What a lovely place. Maybe a few more info plaques dotted around the place would be good tho. 👍
Kevin G — Google review
It’s a little bit of track and hilly walk to get to it, but it was worth the walk. It’s unmanned so go whenever you want. There are spectacular views from the castle as it is up on a hill.

DO NOT follow satnav to tge layby on the road because the bridge is closed. Drive from the square down Church Street to the church and graveyard. The path starts over a wee bridge between the church and the distillery, following the river to the right. Path is well maintained with great views, a bit up and down but worth it. Once you reach the Giant's Chair keep walking until you see a column on the left slope leading to the magic fairy Village.

As of Oct 2025 the bridge is closed but the sign is on the other side so don’t come in from the Dufftown side but do the Linns Falls Walk start in Aberlour. very cute, easy walk.

Incredible and so original. Truly so creative. Wonderful for kids and also adults. Absolutely no one there so we had the place all to ourselves. A bit difficult to find.
Alba B — Google review
Found this place on google maps and wanted to visit as the pictures of the place looked amazing. To be honest it was a tad disappointing, the houses were a little dilapidated and the Big house was broken down. It was still nice to see the little village and sit in the chairs provided and enjoy the energy of the space.
Charmaine H — Google review
This quiet and wonderful spot can be an embuggerance to locate but is very much worth the hunt! You need to drive through the Distillery complex and a few hundred mtrs untill you come to a small lay y at a tiny bridge. There is a small sign indicating towards waterfalls and the Fairy village but it doesn't have an actual laid out path, just tracks for walking. Bring decent shoes. Theres a small meadow with a stream along the south side. Walk to the end of the meadow and look very closely up the small bank. You should see a fence and maybe a small sign indicating the village. It can be easy to miss in very bad weather. The carvings and models are very quaint and they were obviously a labour of love. You can enter one of the bigger houses for a sneak peek but most are a foot or 2 tall. I cant explain the feel of this wee spot. Please keep it tidy and leave a small donation in the box if you can. There are small waterfalls/rapids jist a little further up the path and a Bench to rest and listen. It can be very difficult underfoot though and the drop into the water is very steep.
In V — Google review
Cute little trail. Very easy but the end result was a bit underwhelming. Although it's cute, the grass and plants are overgrown to the point that it's taking over the "fairy village". The road to go there is very narrow but it seems not that busy so we went for it and it was fine.
Antonia H — Google review
Lovely little home made fairy Village. Kept together by one guy with his own time, money and any donations left on site. Had a grand wee time exploring the wood trying to find it and was not disappointed when we got there. Sat and had lunch on the benches there and admired this great guys hard work, good on him for making the local forest just a bit more magical!

Ancient church foundation in a very scenic location. Originally founded as a Pictish monastery, the parish church was the centre of the tiny village of Mortlach. Dufftown was established nearby in 1817, leaving the Kirk as a lost backwater! The Kirk yard contains many important historic monuments.

Customers have praised the excellent service provided by Fraser and Russell when hiring equipment such as the E17 Bobcat and a small waker plate. Both experiences were described as straightforward, professional, and convenient with easy pick-up and drop-off arrangements.

The property is equipped with a well-stocked kitchen and is conveniently located near a small supermarket. Super clean, comfortable, well equipped. Feedback from the guys "It was a great place to stay, could even be the best I’ve been in!" I can't say more than that.

Perfect location to see so many attractions in the area, particularly distilleries, of which there are so many! We visited The Balevnie and The Macallan Estate, both of which were amazing. The local Speyside Cooperage tour was a great family visit, really interesting. We also visited Lossiemouth on the coast which is beautiful, travelled on the steam train around the Cairngorms national park and visited Aberdeen for a shopping / sightseeing day. The accommodation was incredibly clean, and so well equipped - we stay in self-catering accommodation regularly, but never have we had the amount facilities provided here, particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms. Our hosts were so helpful and informative. There is a choice of take-aways within a minute's walk and a very handy small supermarket across the road. Parking was easy and we also made use of EV chargers in the town. Absolutely loved our stay, we were all so sad to be leaving after 5 nights and will aim to visit again.

Perfect spot for a weekend visit. The flat has absolutely everything down to a hair straightener! Fully stocked kitchen, fully modern clean bathrooms, comfy beds. It was quite warm the weekend we were there so a fan would have been nice, but it was likely an exception. Yes, Dufftown is a dead town, but if you come for Whisky tasting as we did, it's a perfect location.

We had a fabulous stay in Dufftown and enjoyed the Ben Shea home immensely. Had a dram by the fire thanks to our lovely host's recommendations. Very comfortable jumping off point for exploring the whisky trail or the northern coast over to Inverness. Plus, a handy CoOp right across the street. Cheers!

We stayed at this house in June 2023. At first we were a bit overwhelmed by all the high-tech gadgetry, but once we got the hang of how everything worked the house grew on us. It is all well furnished, the kitchen very well equipped, it is a really comfortable place. Plus there is a small supermarket right across the street. The owners were extremely helpful with everything we might want to find out. Also, we found the app that Ben Shea Smart Home provided very helpful. There are only two things that dampened our good overall experience. One was, that Dufftown was almost "dead", shops and restaurants were sometimes closed, there is only one open pub and not much else. And the other thing is, that we found the Ben Shea Smart House totally overpriced. On our trip through Scotland we found places just as nice for a lot less.
Wilfried B — Google review
We stayed for a week and it was excellent from beginning to end. Service and facilities were exceptional. We travelled with a baby and a dog, and although the stairs were a little tricky to navigate, with them and all their luggage, it was spacious and well designed for use. We had a couple of questions which were quickly resolved by our great hosts who were on hand when required. Dufftown was very nice with lots of walks and places to see near the property. Property was very central, so amenities were very handy and everything needed. Thanks!

Highland Spirit Bed & Breakfast is an elegant B&B housed in an 1830 building, offering genteel rooms with garden and river views. Run by the friendly and hospitable Karen and Alistair, it provides a perfect base to explore the Whisky capital of the world. Located in the center of Duffton, it's within walking distance to town and Glenfiddich distillery, with many other distilleries just a quick drive away.
Beautiful place to stay. Karen and Alistair are fantastic hosts. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable with everything you need for a romantic getaway. Breakfast is delicious, recommend everything but do try the Scottish Breakfast with Black Pudding, and definitely try the porridge with a dram of whiskey!!! Karen has a beautiful garden, and they can both give you all the advice you need to plan your distillery tours. Town was very quiet and has definitely suffered during covid, but there is a lovely restaurant across the street, and the distilleries are so close.

My wife and I stayed here in July 2017 (sorry for the extremely late review). This was the first bed and breakfast we had ever stayed at and unfortunately it ruined all the others for us. It is a beautiful house with beautiful grounds and gardens. Karen and Alistair are some of the most friendly people you will meet. Also, the best full Scottish breakfast I had the entire trip. If this place has availability, BOOK IT. You will not be disappointed. 10/10 would recommend.

Stayed here end of June 2021. It’s a fantastic place to stay. Everything from the welcome, quality of the rooms, bathrooms, cleanliness, gardens, breakfast and information was first class. Even the WiFi was good! As hosts Karen and Alistair were wonderful. Engaging, helpful and very generous. The Mortlach History and Whisky walking tour was one of the highlights of our trip. A fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Stopped in Dufftown to visit the speyside distilleries. Stayed in the Bank Manger Room. I must say a giant WOW! Karen and Alistair have set the bar for B&Bs. Absolutely a must-stay if you're in the area! Pre-trip, communications were prompt and clear. We knew what to expect. We arrived on site to a warm welcome. Karen provided us with a great introduction to the area. Room and facility just excellent. It's a labor of love restoring the old house to such standards, yet retaining its historic charm and features. Location of the house is very convenient. Walkable to many attractions but at the same time, set a little back from the street so it's quiet and peaceful. Best of all was the warm hospitality. Karen and Alistair really care about what they do. From little details like source of ingredients for breakfast, good WiFi coverage in the room and all the way to discussions about Scottish produce and lamb. It feels like we were staying with good friends and not just "guests". Highly recommend without any hesitation. Thank you Karen and Alistair!

Staying with Karen at the Highland Spirit Bed and Breakfast was the perfect way to see the Whisky capital of the world. Located right in the center of Duffton and in within a few minutes walk to the town a 15 minute walk to Glenfiddich, and a quick drive to many other distilleries, this was the perfect place to stay for a few days in the Highlands. Karen was an excellent host that provided many recommendations for things to do, to give us a great experience in our few days in Scotland. Breakfast each day was fantastic, with locally sourced ingredients that made up a tasty Full Scottish breakfast, as well as a dram of Monkey Shoulder whisky that was a great contribution to the morning's porridge. I'd highly recommend staying at the Highland Spirit to anyone looking to explore the highlands with a comfortable base point and excellent hosts! The rooms were cozy and had a selection of slippers, toiletries, and other amenities to make sure you were all set for your trip. As a side note, for those taking the UK day 2 COVID test, the testing kits were delivered right to the B&B, and the drop off box was within walking distance as well. I will definitely be returning to the Highland Spirit B&B next time I travel to Scotland.

Karen is so nice, welcoming, accommodating and gives some wonderful recommendations even amidst the uncertainty of COVID. The house is squeaky clean and homey, and COVID policies adhered to. It's also so conveniently located yet tucked away at the same time, secluded getaway, not far from all the main things to do in the Highlands. 11/10 would recommend and certainly cannot wait to return!

The Giant's Chair, situated in a picturesque forest, offers a charming stroll with enchanting attractions. Along the narrow path, visitors can admire not only the impressive rock formation but also a Fairy Village and the captivating White Apron Waterfall. Although some may find it difficult to spot the expected grandeur due to dense foliage, this delightful walk grants an opportunity to enjoy beautiful waterfalls and allows dogs to frolic in the nearby stream. However, sightings of the titular giant's chair may vary.
Lovely walk through the river valley by the Dufftown distillery to where the fairy village is and the site of the Giants chair , unfortunately due to the recent storm damage the bridge over the Dullan water is still out of action and there is still a fair bit of debris in the water , it was difficult to make out the chair but the natural beauty and peacefullness makes up for that

There is a fantastic easy route to the Giants chair and the Fairy Village, ideal for those not as steady on their feet, it also has lots of benches for a rest. Really magical spot. Sadly a tree is down at the giants chair, but the cradle and all the fairy folk are still accessible. I'd have given 5 stars if the tree was cleared.

This is a nice walk along the side of the river. Currently two bridges are damaged and closed and not enough signage to help those who don’t know where to go. Fairy village is cute but very overgrown. Benches need a lick of paint. Needs a bit of tlc. Watch out for deer if you have dog off the lead. Nice little waterfall.
Susan S — Google review
Beautiful walk through a narrow forest path with not only Giants Chair but a Fairy Village and White Apron Waterfall to enjoy.
Dariusz M — Google review
Loved the walk and the dog could splash in the stream. Didn't see the giant's chair!
Ian T — Google review
The giants chair is not much to look at but the fairy village that you pass to get to it as really nice and well worth a look 👍👍
Bret B — Google review
Great walk with cool points of interest like the giants chair and cradle. Bit rough in patches so maybe not suitable for buggies + wheelchairs
Emily S — Google review
Not the spectacular rock formation we expected, couldn't see it for the trees, however a very nice walk and lovely waterfalls!

Takeout Restaurant
I visited The Lunchbox Dufftown for take-away lunch and was immediately impressed by the spotless establishment and friendly staff. As I perused the menu, I felt welcomed. The food was delicious, particularly their irresistible whisky tea-loaf. This place is a must-visit if you're craving tasty take-out options. It offers fresh and flavorful meals at reasonable prices. Their jackfruit and salad wrap, as well as their BLT toastie, were both outstanding choices.
Popped in for some take-away lunch items. Initial impressions were of a very clean shop, and friendly staff who made us feel welcome whilst we read the menu. The food was good, and the whisky tea-loaf we had was monumentally moreish. Go here and you'll come away with something tasty to eat.

Really good lunch spot! Fresh and really flavourful, and very reasonably priced! We had the jackfruit and salad wrap and the BLT toastie. Both were excellent! If you're in the area, this is a really refreshing lunch option! 100% recommend!!

Located in the charming village of Craigellachie, Highlander Inn is a top bar in Scotland known for its warm and knowledgeable service. The staff are passionate about whisky and eager to share their expertise with visitors. Spice of India, situated near an Airbnb in Dufftown, offers a tantalizing aroma of Indian cuisine that's hard to resist. With a wide selection of Indian and Bangladeshi dishes as well as Western options, this restaurant provides a clean and inviting atmosphere with friendly staff.
My girlfriend and I came in firstly because it was pretty much the only place open at 8pm on a Friday, but we’re so glad we did!! Liked it so much, we came back for takeaway the next day! I can’t remember what my friend ordered, but I had the Hariyali and it was amazing with garlic nan. The next night we ordered the hariyali again and the Butter Chicken….. wow!!!! Both were so good, it was hard to pick a favorite! The place was fabulous, with super friendly service and excellent prices!!

We had 2 takeaways from here in the 5 nights we stayed in Dufftown. The food was great, thoroughly recommend the butter chicken. We also had pizza as one of our party is not a fan of Indian - the pizza was great and exceeded our expectations. Would thoroughly recommend as the menu is extensive and there is something for everyone.

We got food for take away on our holiday from Spice of India. We were a large group with a big order and Spice of India did a wonderful job! The food was VERY good and even with our large order they didn’t forget any items. We would very much recommend Spice of India and we are very glad we ordered from there.

Outstanding takeaway from the Spice of India. Staying near Craigellachie and looking for a takeaway we found this place. Indian meals used to be a regular go-to, but we gave drifted away and rarely have one now. After this I think I need to reconsider. An award winning restaurant, we struggled to find an up-to-date menu, but got some information on their website. We went for a meal for 2 at a very reasonable £32.95. Unusually there were very few limitations on what you could order. We had a 20 minute wait and took our dogs for a short walk while waiting. I had a lamb nihari and my wife had a tiger chicken. They were both very good, very different. Her chicken was rich and sweet, while my lamb was tangy with a strong chili after taste. Both dishes were new to us and we were delighted with them both, though the nihari was too strong for my wife. We also got poppadoms, chicken tikka, the best pakora I've had in years, salad and a garlic naan. The biggest problem was eating it all, but we were in agreement that it was the best Indian food we have had in years, and that it's award- winning reputation is well deserved. I've no doubts at all about the 5 stars and will definitely be back when we are back to Craigellachie.

Gives you a good tour in some foreign languages even. Well preserved buildings, good parking. Multimedia show. Nice situation.

Dufftown 2000 Ltd started this Museum 10 years ago to make it the focal point for visitors from all over the world. It's the hub to get info to distilleries around Speyside.

It was closed at 11pm. As a tourist, you are in front of a closed door without warning. I have been told it’s because of lack of volunteers, closed until they have someone. I understand the situation but i think in high season, july, the city should not let that happen.
Fil D — Google review
Small place and to be honest quite boring for children - it's completely focused on whiskey fanatics

Brilliant! Loads of good whiskies, friendly people. Highly recommended.

Visitor Centers
Located in the heart of Dufftown, the Dufftown Clock Tower is a historic landmark that was once used as a local prison. It serves as a starting point for leisurely family walks through Megs Wood or for exploring nearby attractions such as Balvenie Castle and the famous Glenfiddich distillery. The area also offers opportunities to encounter friendly local heilan coos, perfect for photo opportunities.
The signature building in Dufftowns town centre is the clock tower which was built in 1839 firstly as the town jail , then became the burgh chambers and is now the tourist office
