San Felice Circeo in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in San Felice Circeo, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
San Felice Circeo attracts visitors with its mix of sandy beaches, rocky coves, and clear Tyrrhenian Sea waters along the Circeo promontory. The town lies within Circeo National Park, offering hiking trails, coastal dunes, and views from Monte Circeo tied to the myth of the sorceress Circe in Homer’s Odyssey. Its historic center, with narrow lanes and a medieval tower, provides a quieter, small-town atmosphere compared with larger Italian coastal resorts. Located south of Rome, it’s a convenient seaside escape that combines nature, history, and relaxed village life.
With favorites like La Scogliera Circeo, Spiaggia Porto di San Felice Circeo, and Locanda Degli Artisti, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Locanda Degli Artisti and Barracrudo so you can get the best taste of San Felice Circeo while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Seafood restaurant
Il Grottino Al Porto is a charming restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and high-quality food. It offers a breathtaking view of the harbor and serves perfectly cooked fresh fish of the day. Visitors have praised the friendly staff, delicious food, and reasonable prices. The menu provides various options, and guests have enjoyed the recommended dishes. The restaurant's setting is described as charming, making it an ideal place for a delightful lunch or early dinner.
I visited the restaurant with some friends and the service was excellent. The staff was nice and friendly and took care of us since the moment we sat down. The food was delicious and the menu has many options. They recommended us some great dishes to try. We will definitely go back again.

Serving a varieties of local seafood dishes, paired with their excellent wine; I would ask the server what pairs well with the meal and then choose from their selection. Save room for their house desert as the portion size is for two people. The dessert wines are an excellent choice if you feel like something sweet but not filling.
Peregrino — Google review
Mediocre overpriced food with shocking service. The waiter could not be bothered to explain the menu and acted annoyed when we asked them to explain the menu. He could not wait to just take our order and get on his way. Manner is basically non-existent in this restaurant. We were already at a restaurant with an Italian friend. However, if you speak Italian, think twice. If you don’t, don’t even think about coming here. On another note, we overheard some people who came to this restaurant a few years ago were also shocked by the decline in the quality of both services and food. It turns out this restaurant changed hand a few years ago and explained why there are still so many good reviews on Google map.
Eric N — Google review
Sad decline in quality of service and food since the new management took over. In addition, capricious rules about what dishes are available and when; and totally overpriced. We lament the loss of our favorite restaurant in San Felice.
My R — Google review
This place by the seaside is not bad but the devil is in the details. First up, the service was excellent and our wine was delicious. The food could be better though. My wife's spaghetti vongole was too oily, the pasta was sightly undercooked (we like Al dente, it was truly undercooked) and the clams had a lot of sand still left in them. The waiter sold me on the fresh fish which wasn't on the menu and ended up being 35€. It was really quite tasty but again, too oily. The accompanying roasted potatoes were a touch too salty. Overall it was overpriced for the quality of the food but still an enjoyable experience.
Marco B — Google review
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic and well executed meal on the west Italian coast. The view was incredible, the staff friendly, and the food- above all- excellent and fresh. Upon placing our orders, the server motioned us towards the back of the restaurant and showed us what fish we would be eating (sea bass), also presenting us with available substitutes. Twenty minutes later, he came back and showed us the preparation before deconstructing the fish and plating in front of us. Overall, a wonderful dining experience.
Luther C — Google review
I love the food in the restaurant and the charming setting. I had a great lunch time there, I loved it! Specially the dessert. The host was nice and very welcoming. Me and my friends are planning to visit again when in the city. The price is reasonable and the service is great!
Google review
I was visiting my italian friend, who took me to this place one afternoon to have an early dinner. Food was amazing, our server was very nice (even though i didn't understand a lot of what he was saying i could conclude that he was trying very hard to make sure we have a nice meal and that everything is to our taste). Prices are not too expensive, and it was definitely worth the money.

Spiaggia Porto di San Felice Circeo is a hidden treasure that offers a serene escape between the majestic promontory and the inviting, crystal-clear waters. This charming beach features a stunning backdrop of rocky formations and golden sands, with Mount Circeo standing proudly in the distance. The atmosphere here is tranquil, making it perfect for swimming or simply enjoying a peaceful dip in the calm waters.

Beautiful beach without any beach accessories such as shower, umbrellas etc. Anyhow the views are great and the water clear as it comes...

(Translated by Google) Beach located near the port of San Felice Circeo, not very large. To reach it you can park in the port car park with a parking disc (2 hours) or at a cost of €1 per hour for as long as you want and from there you can get directly to the beach (there are 10 steps and not a descent so it is not accessible for everyone). The beach is very pretty, it is located directly under the Circeo mountain, in fact when it's 5am it's already all in the shade so maybe I recommend going there in the morning. The water is of a wonderful colour, there are fantastic colors and the water remains low (almost 2 metres) up to 50 meters of the shore and the first 20 meters is not even knee high so perfect for children too. There near the There are also various parking spaces and bars and restaurants if needed. I don't think I've seen umbrellas or sunbeds for rent on the beach, it's a completely free beach with no lifeguards, but it's correct that there are rubbish bins on the beach.

Historical place
Torre Fico, also known as the Fig Tower, has a rich history dating back to 1562 when it was constructed by Pope Pius IV as a defense against Saracen piracy. Although part of the tower was destroyed over time, it was later rebuilt. The access to the path leading to the tower is somewhat hidden by vegetation and some parts have collapsed onto a private road, but visitors can still make their way there.

Located in the San Felice Circeo harbor, Locanda Degli Artisti is a well-known seafood restaurant along the Pontine coast. The restaurant offers about a hundred seats spread across indoor, outdoor, and street-side dining areas. Specializing in seafood, it is renowned for its raw dishes and an impressive selection of oysters such as Fleur des Eaux and Marennes Oleron.
My boyfriend and I had the most amazing meal at Locanda Degli Artisti! The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. The seafood gnocchi, fritto misto and octopus were incredible. If we're in San Felice Circeo again we're definitely coming back!

The restaurant has indoor, outdoor, and across-the-street seating areas, so if you're making a reservation, please be specific about your preferences. Serving local seafood with large portions, I recommend sharing plates, and if you still long for more, there are other excellent meals on the menu. Avoid this place like the plague, expensive for what is offered, some of the staff are alright but the old guy responsible for the umbrellas and deck chairs is REALLY rude, impolite, confrontational, aggressive and disrespectful. My family had a similar business for many years in Rio de Janeiro (I've worked there doing a similar function too) and we would NEVER in a million years treat a customer the way this man treated me and my family. We asked about the possibility of moving closer to the water with the chairs and this man started saying things like: "You come to my house and you want to choose where to sit?", then he proceeded to become confrontational and we immediately asked for our money back and left. Do not come here!

Day 2

Southwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the southwest side side of town. Start the day off with Grotta delle Capre, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Chiesa Madre di San Felice Martire. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Grotta delle Capre, also known as the Grotto of the Goats, is a well-known and frequently visited spot in Sabaudia. It was once used by shepherds as a shelter for their flocks due to its spaciousness. The rocky road leading to the parking area may require off-road capabilities, but the trek to the grotto is safe with firm ropes available for assistance. Visitors are advised to explore the depths of the grotto with guides.
A very nice place to visit. The cave was 10min from the parking lot and very impressive. There is a stairway down that is easy to access, right before the cave it got a bit more rough. Beautiful ocean.

It’s amazing and charming place. It takes nearly 15-20 minutes to go down the “stairs” to the cave. But be careful!!!! It’s not easy to find those stairs. I’ll attach some screenshots how to find them, they’re on the parking. Everyone needs to visit this place.

Bring some light and explore the cave! The gate is closed, but as many writes: it's easy to pass. The path down is short and easy, but I would still recomend good shoes. No facilities on site.

Amazing grotto just beneath the town of San Felice Circeo. The road to the parking spot is rocky and dusty- offroad abilities beneficial. The way to the grotto is rocky, but firm ropes are available everywhere for grip and the whole trek is very safe. The view at the end is spectacular - see to it that you don't miss the nearby smaller Grotta del Fossellone either. Walks into the depths of the grotto should only be done with guides.

Grotta del Fossellone

4.0
(2)
Historical landmark
Nestled along the stunning coastline, Grotta del Fossellone is a captivating cave that boasts a striking circular opening, formed by the partial collapse of its vault. This natural wonder can be explored both from land via a scenic path and from the sea on a small boat, offering visitors unique perspectives of its beauty. The cave holds historical significance as well; it was once inhabited by Neanderthals who left behind tools and animal remains, providing fascinating insights into their existence.
(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful caves in Circeo. It can be visited by land via the small path near the Capre cave or it can be admired from the sea with a small boat. The vault of the cave collapsed and for this reason it is called "Fossellone" because of the large ditch that can be seen on the highest part! A place not to be missed.

Since we left the restaurant we keep wondering how did they managed to have 133 reviews of 5 stars. It is a shame for the italian cuisine. A terrible disappointment and a maximum bewilderment about how this restaurant given that is mostly empty and obviously a tourist trap. The food is execrable, inedible, and the pretention to be a gourmet restaurant is obviously denied by the way of preparation: definitely a fast food (a rizzoto cannot be prepared just in five minutes). by the appearance of the dishes on the table: absolutely disgusting and by the way, everything looks terrible, this restaurant beeing without any doubt nothing else than a trap for tourists. I strogly recommend to be avoided by everybody. for all the good reasons. Last but not least, it should be mentioned that although we could not eat anything and refused everything, the bill was paid in full as they requested. A total disaster!

(Translated by Google) A simply unforgettable evening. La Scogliera is not just a restaurant: it is an experience that involves the senses and the heart. From the warm welcome of the staff - prepared, smiling and attentive - to the last sip of wine, every detail is taken care of with passion. We dined with dishes that to define as "gourmet" is an understatement: a shrimp tartare with passion fruit, crunch and licorice with squid ink that left us speechless; octopus with potatoes very tender and rich in flavor; risotto with freshly caught corn, scented with mint oil and licorice - a refined and surprising explosion. All accompanied by an excellent Gewürztraminer served to perfection. After dinner, a walk on the port closed a perfect evening. A place that I not only recommend, but where I will return every time I want to treat myself to a real treat. Thank you for making an already important day for us special. 💫 Rating: 10 cum laude (Original) Una serata semplicemente indimenticabile. 💫 Voto: 10 e lode

(Translated by Google) A pleasant discovery. This restaurant is relatively new to the Circeo scene and I was pleasantly surprised. The recipes are original but without distorting the flavors of the ingredients (the bruschetta with belly pork is excellent), and the service is attentive and knowledgeable, even when it comes to wine recommendations. I recommend trying it. (Original) Una piacevole scoperta.

(Translated by Google) An unforgettable experience. I came for dinner with a friend last night and we were pleasantly surprised. Filippo, the owner, welcomed us with a smile and attentiveness to every detail. We dined, and with each course, Filippo honored us with a detailed explanation of what we were about to eat, as well as with the wine selection, his greatest passion, which he has made a true profession out of. Top-quality ingredients and high-quality cuisine. Everything homemade (pasta, bread, breadsticks, butter). The wait times were just right. The location was super welcoming, as were the restaurant owners. The place was spotless and elegant. A real guarantee, we will definitely be back. Highly recommended. Tutto home made (pasta, pane, grissini, burro). Tempi di attesa giusti. La location super accogliente, tanto quanto i proprietari del ristorante. Luogo pulitissimo ed elegante. Una vera e propria garanzia, torneremo sicuramente. Super consigliato.

(Translated by Google) I had lunch with a friend of mine, we had a raw appetizer, two first courses, sweet, bitter and coffee. The appetizer was really delicious, the quality was immediately noticeable and you can also see it from the video… The first courses were also very very good, but above all abundant! They have a nice selection. The dessert didn't drive me crazy, I mean it was good for goodness sake, but it was really a little taste and it cost €12😅 A bit excessive in my opinion, in the end it's a dessert… For the rest, highly recommended, the location is very nice and the service very friendly and attentive! They asked us countless times if everything was okay 😂 I'll be back!
