The Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Dublin is one of the most important religious landmarks in Ireland, and has been a part of the country's history for over 800 years. It is the largest cathedral in Ireland and is home to many beautiful stained glass windows, marble statues, and medieval tiles. The cathedral also plays an important role in literary pilgrimage, as Jonathan Swift once served as dean here.
Beautiful cathedral and park right outside. The stained glass throughout the building is breathtaking. I took one of the audio self guided tours, and that was a nice complement to the signage. I absolutely loved the interactive section - I’ve never seen anything like that in a cathedral, and that was incredible! We went up and bought tickets on the spot - no problem
Moira D — Google review
We purchased tickets in advance so there was no wait. It is such a beautiful cathedral. The architecture and history is amazing. There is a "quiet area" for reflection and prayer, however there lack of respect from other visitors for that area. There is a gift shop area, however most of the items there can be found in other shops around the city.
E G — Google review
We purchased out tickets online ahead of time for an easier entry, and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour here. Audio guides were included with our basic admission but we chose to walk around without it just admiring the architecture and stained glass windows. This is a very neat cathedral, one of the best I've visited on my Europe trips. WAYYYY better than Dublin Castle!!
Alex B — Google review
Really a great visit. We were unable to explore the green due to weather, but the amount of information and things to see inside the cathedral was just amazing. There was so much about the history to read, and the memorials across the walls was such an interesting sight. I personally loved all the stained class. HIGHLY recommend getting there right at opening. You'll be able to beat the tourist groups by just a slim margin, but it makes all the difference. After tours arrived, it was chaotic and crowded, and the tourists were fairly impolite. Get there early and you'll enjoy it way more!
Maddy H — Google review
Visited on self-guided tour on a Monday morning. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to visit each part of the cathedral with space and time to learn about its history and it's stunning architecture at our own pace. Price of admission was either 8 or 10 euros, a steal for the experience.
Tara H — Google review
Amazing cathedral ! The history of this place was amazing. I’m intrigued by the men who made their fortunes selling alcohol also poured their money into churches. It is a beautiful place and I know many have found the love of Christ here for 100’s of years.

Worth a visit if you're interested in religion and history or even art. Beautiful building with great art work on the stained glass. Audio guide offered. Leaflet offered too and there are some guided tours depending on the time. Nice war memorials here too.

Lovely cathedral, there's a lovely park outside and a quaint coffee shop around the corner. There's an entry fee into the cathedral and it's beautiful inside. Good to visit on a lovely sunny afternoon.

Forty Foot

(3953)
Forty Foot is a renowned spot located along Dublin Bay, offering year-round swimming in the Irish Sea. It's a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, with a picturesque promenade stretching along the sea shore. Accessible via the DART to Dalkey, it provides an authentic local experience as swimmers can take a dip off the rocks. The area boasts safety signs and convenient facilities such as bathrooms for post-swim showers.
Fabulous evening at the 40 foot Sandycove. Great watching all the swimmers and taking in the sunset. Cute little beach when the tide is out. Area is very well maintained and there is some parking on the streets to be found when it isn’t too busy.
Lisa M — Google review
Total blast! It's cold, but, you'll acclimate quickly. No changing room. Any dry clothes will have to be swapped in under a towel! The whole experience is invigorating. Swim shirt and swim shoes recommended.
Kevin P — Google review
This is my go to place every time it is warm in Ireland. Full of people on weekends but you can find your place on the jumping part. There is steps and a ladder to clim back up. Places to seat and even showers. Definitely a good trip on a sunny day.
Pierre B — Google review
Are you an open water swimmer as we say in California? It’s “sea swimming” or “wild swimming” - best term- as it’s called here. This is an excellent swim hole. Water temp was around 60f , 15c, when I swam here in August. Very familiar temp , a bit warmer than the sf bay for August. Highly recommend this place for wild swimmers or those who just want a dip or a jump. East 25 min DART ride from Tara St station.
J S — Google review
Went for a run last Saturday from Dún Laoghaire to Killiney, and honest to God — passing the Forty Foot nearly stopped me in my tracks. The sea, the sound of the waves, the hardy folk hopping in like it's a summer’s day — pure magic. There’s just something about that spot… the buzz hits ya right in the chest. One of these days I’ll jump in myself — nearly tempted already 😅 Cracking coastal route, class views, and the Forty Foot is the star of the show.
Jack H — Google review
What fun for all! There's a gorgeous park along the water, a nice little sandy beach, a sauna, and big rocks where you can dive in from about 20 feet, or just dip in your toes!
Matt C — Google review
I visited the Forty Foot purely because of its legendary status—and I’m glad I did. It’s a true deep-sea swimming spot, with dramatic rocks and cold, invigorating water that really lives up to the hype. What stood out to me most was the crowd. There are always a lot of people around, which made it feel a bit overcrowded at times, but also gave me a strange sense of safety and shared experience. Locals and tourists alike come here to swim year-round, and there’s a real sense of tradition and community. I went mainly to try it for myself, to see what the buzz was all about—and I can now say I understand the appeal. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dublin and want to step into something legendary.

Nestled in the charming village of Dalkey, The Dalkey Duck is a delightful gastropub that perfectly captures the essence of this picturesque area. With its spacious outdoor terrace, it's an ideal spot to soak up the sun on warm days, while its cozy interior provides a welcoming atmosphere for intimate dinners by the fire. Known for serving a fantastic Sunday roast and featuring local seafood—especially during lobster season from March to October—this eatery showcases Ireland's finest produce with flair.
Great food with a nice outside area… the portions are big and the food is flavourful, will definitely be back to try something else on the menu

The pub looks much bigger inside than out. They have a pool table and great outdoor areas. The bar inside is lovely and the food was brilliant too. Super Guinness and friendly staff it's definitely worth a visit the next time you're in Dalkey.

Best place to play pool in south Dublin hands down. The place is big and the beer garden is fantastic. Lovely crowd and pretty aesthetic spot for a game and a pint
Manya S — Google review
Today I was for the first time in Dalkey. It was late Saturday afternoon and there was the annual lobster festival. Despite the strong drizzle, the temperature was mild and the people attended by weight, something typically Irish. The establishments that sell food, pubs among them, were crowded. We were looking for a pub where there was supposed to be a musical performance, but it was nothing. So we went to Killarney to see what would be happening there.
Eduardo G — Google review
Great spot in Dalkey! Tasty food, big portions, and good cocktails. Loved the old and rustic vibe of the place. Bathrooms could use a little bit attention but overall, it was a nice experience dining here.
Amy A — Google review
Good pub, great pint of Guinness and friendly staff. Live music is only in a small section of the pub and can’t hear it in other areas and that was ok for us though as we stopped to chat. They have more selection of beers than the selection at the bar we ordered from.’

The Queens Bar & Steak Room, established in 1745 and licensed since 1787, is one of Dublin's oldest inns. Located in the heart of Dalkey, this 18th-century restaurant offers a sophisticated Irish menu featuring signature dry-aged steaks. The large and airy pub provides ample seating for groups and features its very own Steak Room where patrons can cook their own steaks on the stone.
OMG, I was so excited to finally try Queens after it was closed, and I gotta say, it totally lived up to the hype! We got two starters and one main. - The calamari were cooked perfectly with panko. I've never had it like that before, and it's a must-try! - The chicken wings were delicious, even though I got them plain instead of with the spicy sauce, and the blue cheese on the side was amazing. - And the beef burger? Seriously, I have no words to describe how good it was, tender and juicy. 100/10! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 You always have room for dessert, right? And thanks to Andrea for reminding me! ♥️ The chocolate cheesecake is a MUST-TRY with a perfectly made brownie base! 🤤🤤🤤 Everything was perfect 👌, and we're definitely going back.

I liked the atmosphere and the decor a lot. The servers were polite and helpful. We had to wait for a little while to order our food. I really enjoyed my marinated beetroots with whipped goats cheese. The seafood chowder on the other hand, lacked seasoning. Quite tastles as my husband said. I guess we'll have to come back to taste the mains 😉
Edita B — Google review
4 of us were looking forward to the return to the Queens. But I can tell you we won't be ordering food there again. The 4 of us rated the food BELOW average. I had the Rib Eye (€38) and it must of been sitting under a light and was dried out. Pepper sauce and chips weren't hot. Service people were nice but nobody knew what was going on. We moved table and manager told us off and said that we should of told staff. Staff were the ones to have moved us. Drinks didn't come ... ordered 4 times on one round. And we just had to laugh about Faulty Queens. Our new name. But one staff member needs a shout out and that is Chris ... he was the only one outside Sat night that tried to keep things going. Food is definitely below average and won't eat there again. The service was laughable (literally) and the atmosphere is nice. They really really need to train staff ... its not the staffs fault. Won't be rushing back for sure

Great food and atmosphere. Came here for Sunday lunch and loved it. The place is beautiful and the service was really welcoming (they were great with our daughter). The food was the best part, though. The chowder was incredible. Highly recommend.

Lovely classy eatery with ample seating outside and in. Nice decor and efficient and friendly staff . Highly recommend the lunch menu - the Chowder dish with brown soda bread ( homemade ) is orgasmic. Cheeseburger with fries is mouthwatering, meat is delicious, and ample in size . Everything well presented. Prices average but lovely Lunchtime experience overall. Keep up the high standards ……
Mike R — Google review
Order Loaded Cheese Fries to have nibble with my drinks and sad today they are €8.50 fries with some curdled gloop - service is good but food needs improvement.
Aine R — Google review
Glad to see it open again after a very quick patch up (paint on outdoor tables still sticky as they didn't seal it) and not much changed inside, but food not up to the mark (tasteless salad, which was kindly replaced and Cuban sandwich in name only). Would definitely go back for a pint outside, but still feels outdated on the inside. Much better friendly service than under last owner.
Brendan W — Google review
The recently reopened Queens in Dalkey manages to strike that fine balance between heritage charm and fresh polish. The interior is warm and inviting, with a contemporary elegance that doesn’t lose the pub’s classic soul. From the moment I walked in, the staff set the tone—friendly, attentive, and refreshingly consistent in checking that everything was to our liking. The food offering started strong with the wings. Tender, well-cooked, and genuinely delicious, they had just the right kick. If anything, I’d have liked a touch more sauce, but that may simply be down to my personal preference. I didn’t ask, but given the service, I’ve no doubt a request for extra would have been happily obliged. The chips, however, fell short. Chunky in style (never my favourite), they leaned more towards the frozen end of the spectrum in both texture and taste. A minor letdown, especially given how good the wings were. Drinks were where The Queens shone again. The Limoncello Bloom cocktail was a bright, zesty pleasure—sweet but balanced, and absolutely the kind of drink you want to linger over. One thing worth noting: I happened to witness the manager deal with a particularly difficult customer. What could have easily soured the atmosphere was handled with calm professionalism. The disruptive diner was swiftly but politely asked to leave, and the room’s mood didn’t falter for a moment. That sort of composure says a lot about the team running the place. All in all, The Queens feels like a welcome addition back into Dalkey’s dining and social scene. I’m already planning a return visit, most likely for another round of those wings.

Killiney Hill Park, located just south of Dublin, is a popular recreational park offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding area. From the capital city to the Wicklow Mountains and even the Irish Sea, visitors can enjoy stunning vistas. The park features family-friendly walking trails and is often referred to as 'Thousand Dog Park.' Additionally, there's a cozy cafe at the base of the hill for those in need of refreshments.
This is without question one of the most scenic parks in all of Dublin. It has multiple viewpoints overlooking dublin bay and offering outstanding views of the Wicklow coastline. Truly a must visit ,and also a dogs dream as there are so many little adventure trails for them to explore.

Really great little park. My daughter loved it. Especially the wooden horse with a cart. There are things to jump on, twirl around or swing on, climb and see saw. The only thing it doesn't have is a restroom.
Elysia C — Google review
“This is the perfect morning,” I whispered to my husband, standing in the forest with our boys, surrounded by tall, moss-covered trees. 🥰 Killiney Hill gave us more than we expected. We had set out looking for nothing more than a walk and a bit of space to move as a family, but the day unfolded slowly and beautifully. Not far from the base of the trail, we spotted a handwritten sign for ice cream and coffee. One of those small, perfect surprises when you're out with kids. We stopped, got a morning ice cream and coffee, sat for a while, and let the day slow down before we’d even begun walking. From there, we made our way toward the tree-lined hill. The path opened gradually, with the light shifting as we climbed. At the top, the views widened all at once: the sea, the sky, the city off in the distance. At the apex stood the obelisk. We sat on the rocks there for a long time, just taking it all in. My older son climbed the pyramid-like structure nearby - confident, happy, determined. The descent took us through what felt like an enchanted forest. Quiet, cool, damp in the best way. Moss covered the trees and low stone walls lined the path. Everything smelled green. We didn’t rush. At the end of the trail, we reached the park. It’s simple, natural, and beautifully done. Our kids had the freedom to explore and play, and we weren’t just watching. We were part of it. Sitting. Laughing. Resetting. 🧡 It’s hard to find places that offer this kind of balance: open air, design that feels considered but not staged, and enough ease for both kids and parents to enjoy it in their own ways. This one did exactly that.
Candace L — Google review
Killiney Hill Park is one of Dublin's hidden treasures, perfect for anyone who wants to trade city noise for fresh air and inspiring views. The park itself is open year-round and offers a great combination of accessible walking trails, winding paths through old woodland, and several scenic lookouts. The main climb to the summit is gentle enough for most people and only takes about 20–30 minutes, but the payoff is immense: at the top, you’ll be greeted by panoramic vistas of the Irish Sea, the Wicklow mountains, and sometimes even Wales on a clear day.One of the best things about Killiney Hill is the peaceful atmosphere. Even when there are other visitors, the area rarely feels overcrowded. Locals come here with their dogs, families enjoy picnics on the grass, and anyone feeling a bit stressed leaves lighter. There’s a small cafe nearby, which makes it easy to grab a coffee or snack before or after your walk. The park is also full of character, with historic landmarks like the obelisk and old stone walls providing little surprises along the way. Photographers will have plenty to capture, from dramatic seascapes to tiny wildflowers.Paths are well marked, making it a safe option for walkers of most abilities, but bear in mind some areas can be muddy or steep after rain. Good shoes recommended!Overall, Killiney Hill Park is a wonderful reminder of how close nature is to Dublin. Whether you want exercise, reflection, or just a beautiful place to wander, you’ll leave feeling refreshed and a bit more connected. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors!

Oscar G — Google review
Been here plenty of times and it's always a great experience! Better on a sunny day of course, but even during not-so-perfect weather this park is still a solid choice for a stroll around. Parking is always available and paths are very straightforward.

Italian restaurant
Benito's Restaurant in Dalkey is a cozy Italian eatery that has been serving authentic Italian dishes for 14 years. The menu features homemade pastas and wood-fired pizzas, along with a carefully curated selection of Italian and international wines and classic cocktails. The restaurant offers private dining in The Loft, making it suitable for both families and couples. While the limited cocktail menu is compensated by a good wine list, the ambiance can be affected by noisy patrons on occasion.
Good italian restaurant in the center of Dalky. Service and food is OK. Menu prices are not exceptional high.

I had the chance to have dinner there the other day, and I must say, it’s a nice place. I had the pasta, the chicken, and a glass of wine — overall, a good experience. That said, it could have been elevated a bit. I didn’t receive the bread, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar that you usually get at Italian restaurants. Still, it’s a decent spot.

Where do we start - my brothers and I went for meal with 90 year old parents on a recommendation from friend. Food was fantastic but service was even better ! Our waiter was part of family that own the place - recommended a great wine and gave me a taste of another ( expensive ) one that he had just opened - but more impressive was how patient and respectful he was with my 90 year old parents - a great truely Italian welcome. The food was wonderful - we had pizza pasta lamb and fish stew - every meal was delicious. It was just an enjoyable experience from beginning to end . Truly a five star meal.

The most racist place I've ever witnessed in Ireland. It was just a pleasant evening where me and my friend ordered a piazza for takeaway but the owner and his staff took us, where he asked us to leave the place, once we got out pizza after 45 minutes. When we were just asking for an explanation about the delay, he rudely asked us to leave without making a fuss and providing an reason. Since it was a busy day, he didn't even care about our concern. Kudos to the service. Dalkey book festival, you served us very well. Thank you. No doubt, pizza was tasty and delicious just like we expected. But never expected such hospitality in this region.

Absolutely beautiful meal here on one of the busiest days of the year with the book festival and bloomsday and father's day. All things considered the service was fast and the food was top quality with huge portions. Highly recommend the key lime pie for dessert. I also loved the chips, I ate my own and finished the others too. The scampi was delicious and the fish tacos were so fresh and filling.

Lovely little restaurant in Dalkey. Food was good. I especially enjoyed their "bubbas fries". Would definitely eat here again. Time from ordering to receiving meals was longer than the average restaurant, but I didnt mind it. Another thing I always call out in reviews is soft drinks are served at 330ml which is much appreciated.

On May 2nd at 18:15 we made a reservation for 2 people for the outside terrace and sat at a small table for 2 people at the entrance. Since the heater was not on our side, we asked your curly haired waiter if she could change it. She said that every place was full but from the moment we started our meal until the moment we finished, we saw that there were always empty tables. The curly haired waiter deliberately showed a disgusting attitude and service. She is probably one of the experienced waiters there. Then we ordered a lot of food but the table was so small that the food did not fit and they put the salt shakers somewhere else. When I needed a napkin, I reached somewhere else. It was so disgusting, I got very angry and embarrassed in front of my guest. Normally, I would have ordered more and even considered letting my guest open a bottle of wine but because of the disgusting, sullen, shameless attitude of the waiter, I lost interest in your business. and after the food came she came and asked something as if she was mocking me I am sure she did it on purpose, then I told her again this table was too small I had told her before I politely asked her to change it but she went inside without paying any attention, I was aware of her attitude, if you want turn on the camera and watch what your staff is doing. This is my 4th time at this restaurant, I have always hosted my new friends here when they come to Dublin. But because of this attitude of your staff I will not choose you again. Your food may be good, but if you do not see the service, smiling face and humane treatment you cannot enjoy your meal.

Nicely situated restaurant in Dalkey with both indoor and outdoor dining. The staff are lovely, polite and friendly. Overall a nice setting. There is not an extensive fish option to choose from unfortunately, no salmon, no tuna, no mackerel etc. I started with the platter which was well presented and overall yummy. Only disappointing element were the mussels which were teeny tiny. Plenty to sample from though on the plate. Sea Bass was delicious as a daily special and I recommend it. The tacos were cold which was a let down but the ingredients were good and hearty. Their fries are different but in a great way, very tasty! All washed down with a pint of plane. If you’re in the area it’s worth a lunch but is pricy so be ready to pay.

This was our first time coming here, and I have often driven by and liked the look of the place. The staff are really nice and obliging. We decided to have the fish and chips and scampi and chips. I was yesterday with friends ( lobster’s festival ) when I arrived I was so happy cuz my expectations was so higher cuz tried my first whole lobster in this place (being a fish restaurant ) but nope 👎the food was good but not amazing 😕but the worst was the customer service why the blonde hair girl she said they don’t have anymore whole lobster ( gone)but few minutes after the others new customers arrive before us ; they start to received whole lobster…soo 🧐that’s why one of my friend ask about that situation and the girl changed the speech and said ahh we have other option but is more expensive … ( what does means that answer) I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ but 💯 I’ll don’t back this is place.. the restaurant sole I had best experience than here by the way the toilet is so small…..

Nestled in the picturesque South Dublin Coast, Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel is a charming 18th-century castle offering elegant rooms with stunning bay views, upscale dining options, and a luxurious spa. This family-owned hotel has been providing genuine service to guests since its establishment in 1971. Situated near Killiney Beach and overlooking Dublin Bay, it's a popular choice for couples, families, and wedding celebrations.
We vacationed in Ireland traveled the whole country and this hotel was by far the best we stayed in. The staff was amazing they remembered me mentioning my daughter's birthday and brought her up a happy birthday cookie platter. The pool, bars and restaurants were great the food was amazing I highly recommend this place! Btw to the people saying the place is dated it's an old castle I wouldn't want it looking like every other hotel it's modern but still has class and history it's a 200 year old castle so stop with the dated it's well taken care of and has more charm than any hotel I stayed in that includes the ones in my own country.

Beautiful castle hotel. Still keeping a lot of authentity and castle spirit. Friendly and helpful staff at reception, restaurant, bar and spa. Very big rooms, comfortable beds, extras in the rooms like: iron, ironing board, kettle, coffee machine, bottled water. All necessary essentials in the bathroom were provided. Lovely presented and very delicious food in the Mapas restarant. Live music in the bar. Unlimited use of spa and gym for guests. And most important - lovely breakfast in the morning. It was a weekend to remember.

Very beautiful hotel with a lovely balcony view. The room we stayed in was clean and very spacious. The bathroom was in great condition and you get provided with all the shower necessities you need. The TV works and includes Netflix. The rest of the hotel is very beautifully designed and the restaurants have amazing food.

My compliments to Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel for a most memorable happy enjoyable dinner party 🎉 for my 80th Birthday Party last night. From the Cocktail Party on arrival to the Dinner and then the breakfast the next morning my 50 guests thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The food was beautifully cooked and delicious to eat. The staff were professional, kind and very polite and willing to go that extra mile if and when necessary. My sincerest thanks to each and every member of staff for their efficiency and kindness shown to everyone. Georgina Bryan Jim Bourke

3 persons attended this hotel for morning coffee today. 2 having tea with scones which were really good. However our cups for tea arrived without teaspoons. We had to ask for teaspoons. Server passed coffee across a person when he should have gone around table. Poor service for 4 star hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the Fitzpatrick Castle. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with a beautiful view of Dalkey Village and the ocean. The staff at the Fitzpatrick are amazing! One of our group lost a hat in a taxi and the hotel staff called the taxi company to retrieve it for us, it was waiting in our room for us upon our return. Great food and drink options in the different bars and restaurants. Would highly recommend staying at Fitzpatrick Castle!

Lovely hotel in a fantastic setting within an easy commute from Dublin centre. Good pool and fitness centre also Only slight negatives were for such a great location our view was of a brick wall and also the prices were a bit much. We would have spent more time in the hotel however when a Guiness and a wine were nearly 22 euros we decided to eat and drink elsewhere

Returned for a visit to Ireland with family after a gap of 20 years to find "The Fitzer Castle", an old friend, in great shape and as welcoming and comfortable as it has always been. It is the epitome of Irish hospitality, hotel tradition and comfort. Atmospheric and easy going with great food, warm, friendly staff and as it always was, excellent value.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Finnegan's of Dalkey, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Dillon's Park. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Pub
Finnegan's of Dalkey, a beloved establishment since 1970, is situated at the southern end of Castle Street. This charming Irish pub offers a delightful dining experience with a menu featuring fresh seafood dishes like deep-fried breaded haddock and chips, Finnegans Fish Pie, and crayfish linguine. The pub has been frequented by notable figures such as Bono and the Obamas during their visit to Ireland.
Had a lovely lunch with local friends. Enjoyed the baked cottage pie with a glass of Glenmorangie. Staff is friendly and the restaurant is located around the corner of the DART on such a cute and charming street.

We stumbled across this place on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The fish & chips were amazing. As was the cauliflower soup! The place was crowded and had a very fun vibe to it. We had a very nice and professional waitress. I would certainly go back!

I had the shepherd's pie and my wife had the goat cheese salad. Both were excellent. I needed to wait quite a while before I could eat the shepherd's pie because it was quite hot. That was okay, because I love fine woodworking, and this place is amazing. I love the old world feel + the service was prompt and attentive.

Our party of five strolled into a pretty quiet dining room (though the bar had a few folks enjoying themselves). We were promptly greeted and shown to our table by a friendly duo of ladies, seemingly orchestrated by a gent behind the bar. Thumbs up for the speedy water delivery! We kicked things off with a couple of crawfish bowl appetizers, and our drinks arrived without a hitch. So far, so good! Then came the main event... or rather, the wait for the main event. We clocked a good 45 minutes before our lamb, haddock, chicken parm, and fish and shrimp scampi finally graced our table. What made the wait a bit puzzling was watching other tables, who arrived well after us, get their food and even finish up! At first, I thought maybe they had some sort of secret pre-order superpower, but seeing it happen multiple times raised an eyebrow or two. When we politely inquired about the hold-up, the answer was a simple, "We're quite busy." Hmm. Finally, the dishes arrived, and while they weren't bad, they definitely landed in the "perfectly average" category. Now that I'm back home and looking at the menu, I realized my scampi was supposed to come with fries, which were noticeably absent. While the initial service was pleasant, the lengthy delay and the feeling of being overlooked left a bit of a sour taste. Given that this was Easter weekend and perhaps things were unusually hectic, I'm hoping this wasn't the standard experience. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that maybe visitors from across the pond weren't exactly a priority.

Great atmosphere for a pint! We arrived too late for the lunch menu but still had a great time.
Kristen M — Google review
Food is only served through lunch (about 3 pm.) We didn't experience this. For service, the bartenders were fantastic. We were located in the very back corner of the pub, so table service was sparse. Atmosphere was great, live entertainment was good, and the locals were absolutely enjoyable.

Went in for a couple of drinks and to relax. Very busy and other people's food looked delicious. I found that the cleanliness a bit lacking. My husband was served a Guinness with a broken lipon the glass which he sent back immediately. The floor carpeting needs to be replaced and refreshed. Can't stand spiderwebs in establishments and not Halloween decorations.

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre is a captivating destination located just south of Dublin's city center, steeped in history since its construction in 1390 by the Anglo-Norman knight John de Courcey. This well-preserved castle served as a refuge for local lords during turbulent times and now stands as an engaging heritage center.
Enjoyed the tour very much, beautiful castle and church ruins, awesome guide, and amazing actors. Definitely check it out.

Did the Hallowen experience last night. It was great exploring the castle in the dark and going on the roof. The attention to detail was brilliant. Really recommend for children 10 and under (although our 12 year olds also joined in). A fun way to see the castle.

Unique experience. Never had a guided tour through an old castle, in which actors are roleplaying the inhabitants, and showing the means and living inside the castle. Was well worth the extra money. Especially nice for children (5-14 i would guess), but as a adult never seen this before.

Absolutely! Here's a glowing review you could share online or with friends: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **A Magical Step Back in Time at Dalkey Castle** From the moment we arrived, the team at Dalkey Castle made us feel genuinely welcome. The **customer service was outstanding**—warm, attentive, and full of personality. Every staff member, from the ticket desk to the costumed guides, radiated friendliness and enthusiasm. The tour itself was a brilliant blend of history and theater. The actors brought medieval life to vivid reality with humor, charm, and impressive knowledge. We met a barber-surgeon, an archer, and a cook, each sharing fascinating insights into 14th-century life. The castle grounds and heritage center were beautifully maintained, and the interactive exhibits added an extra layer of immersion. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a unique experience near Dublin, Dalkey Castle is a must-visit. Highly recommended—and hats off to the team for making history feel so alive and accessible!

Coliemore Harbour is a wonderful place to visit, offering fantastic views across the bay and serving as the starting point for a short boat ride to Dalkey Island. The harbor provides a charming and quiet swimming spot with a platform for easy access to the water. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful setting, which combines natural seascape with small-scale manmade features like slipways, steps, and piers.
Just a 10 minute walk from the main street, this will be the launch point for you to travel to Dalkey Island. From here, you get wonderful views of the island, where you can see a number of its distinctive landmarks. The Harbor itself is small, but great for photo taking. In the mood for a swim, you can do that as well. Perhaps you’d like to do a bit of fishing. Great spot for it.

I'm not sure if the cruise ship was the Norwegian Dawn. The titanic was 269 meters long. This giant is up to the 290's I think. Nice Park, nice memories with the Ex wife and Step son back in 2007. I brought my son 11 and daughter 12 to the park today 11-9-23. Those back roads are hard to navigate up towards Vico Road when the weather is so good, the roads are busy. The park is relatively small but the view is beautiful. God bless. I'm off to watch the Daniel project documentary again for some notes... Bye!

Went to this place yesterday. Seems like a family-run restaurant, run by an old man and his wife. The old man was very polite and also served us very well. He was also super considerate by mentioning about the ingredients in a certain dish weren't suitable for vegans. The food tasted amazing, seemed authentic, and was quite-filling too. The restaurant gave a very homely vibe, which I liked quite a bit. Would definitely visit the restaurant again if I have the opportunity to.

My friend and I were walk ins on the off chance of getting a table. Despite it being busy and a Sat night they found us a table in the window. We had a delicious meal and the owner was so kind sorting things when my friend accidentally got covered in beer when another customer knocked it over as they left. Thoroughly reccomend this place for delicious food, charming and attentive service and good atmosphere- thankyou.

This place is located in a nice spot in Dalkey (honestly, all of Dalkey is nice haha!). The food was great, and so were the folks who served us. The only let down was the gentleman at the front desk. He seemed hostile and made us feel unwelcome. I don't have a specific incident to point out, but sometimes it is just the way how someone speaks (or doesn't speak) or looks at you that makes you feel that way. You will see that there are a few other reviews which do point out something similar.

Went with my niece. Staying at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. I am home from Vancouver on holiday. Appetizer was fine. My nieces dish seemed OK. I ordered Red Duck, it seems that the cook had used the remains of a duck, like a carcass to make this dish. I could not eat it as the meat/ duck was fatty with grizzly bad tasting meat. I asked the waitress to look into this. She did not. On leaving, I spoke with the Owner. None of this meal was either replaced or refunded. I paid full price for a meal that was inedible. Would never eat here again. Very poor, disappointing experience

Hands down the best Indian food in Dublin in 2023. We shook our heads with each bite such was our out and out delight. Irish ingredients coupled with the chefs of Jaipur’s talents makes this a destination restaurant for me. Did I mention the mouthwatering dessert and excellent wine pairings too? The airy decor & beautiful art work coupled with the warm service make this restaurant beautifully understated and fitting for this seaside village. Lucky Dalkey.

Had a very mixed experience here. Credit where due, the food was really good albeit on the pricier side. But for the experience it was well worth it. The waiting staff were all very nice. What ruined my experience was the reaction of the person in charge that day. We had specifically booked a birthday and brought a cake. I requested for the cake to be put into the fridge until after dinner. This person was extremely rude and reminded me that I should have told him this before and outside food is not allowed. Then he said he'll do me this favour . I understand restaurant policies, even if this was not pre-informed when making the booking there could have been a much nicer way to manage this. In the end we decided to take the cake home and do it there. Didn't leave the restaurant with a warm and fuzzy feeling on the day. Hopefully it was one off.

Situated at 107 Coliemore Rd in Dalkey, The Club Bar and Restaurant is a must-visit spot. Upon entering, you are greeted with a welcoming ambiance that immediately puts you at ease. The charming wooden decor and traditional pub style provide a delightful setting for an unforgettable dining experience. Established in 1840, this establishment is a well-known drinking spot in Dalkey.
It looks like an old establishment with a history. It was a full house on a Sunday afternoon when I dined for lunch. I went for the chicken fillet and a pint of Guinness. The starter soup was amazing as well.

While visiting Dublin, we had the opportunity to take the train to the beautiful Seaside Village of Dalky. When we walked into the club bar and restaurant, to grab a few pints, we realize we had found the type of pub that most travelers dream about. Amazing beer. Incredible hospitality and kindness. Great conversation. Wonderful food. And an experience that you take with you for the rest of your travels. Hard to describe, but this is a place you should definitely stop by if you’re in the area.

It was really quiet when we arrived around 2PM on a Saturday, just a dozen or so customers. We were told it was due to the rugby game the previous night. The interior is lovely and old, but it's so dark. There were a few men sitting on their own having a quiet drink, obviously this atmosphere suited them. Our server was lovely and very patient with an 'elderly' member of our group. We ordered the chicken wings for joint starters and they were delicious. For the main meal, I had a beef burger and chips but wasn't overly impressed with either. My wife had the chicken burger and she wasn't particularly enamoured with her choice either.

If you’re not a local, you’re not welcome here. Went at 17.00 for a quick bite to eat and was told that since we didn’t have a booking we would have to be gone by 18.30. This was fine with us. Once we were sat down and drinks were ordered, a waitress came over all guns blazing seemingly annoyed that we were put at that table. We told her we’d be gone by 18.30 and she said that she had taken the booking for a regular and he would be in by 18.00 (how were we supposed to know this?). We quickly ordered food promising to eat it fast. However, we felt so uncomfortable after the whole ordeal that we ended up cancelling the meal. Terrible service and an awful way to treat people.

Lovely pub to visit in Dalkey! When you imagine or picture a pub for a picturesque place such as Dublin, you picture a pub like The Club. We had some stout beers (Guiness and Beamish) which were lovely a creamy. The chicken wings were fine, we had them with the buffalo sauce I believe which was a good option. The steak sandwich I highly recommend and it one of the better ones I’ve had in the area, the steak was a striploin which was very tender and flavourful without being overly salty. For dessert we had the ‘death by chocolate’ case which is exactly what you might imagine with such a name, it does come with vanilla cream which I find brings a great balance to the cake. Staff was very friendly and also knowledgeable about the menu, food and drinks came relatively fast which is always positive. The atmosphere is beautiful, beautiful brown bar which (to me) looks historic/vintage yet very well maintained. Great place to be and will come back for sure!

Absolutely fantastic. There are a few other pubs in the area, but the staff and food here are super friendly and top notch. With a sense of humor that can't be beat. This is my go-to spot when I visit Dalkey. Emma is amazing! Plenty of the good stuff on tap (including Budweiser, but order at your own risk! Lol)

Very disappointing experience at this place. No one cleaned our table before serving us. We ordered buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese dip and chips. Food was very poor quality. The dip tasted nothing like blue cheese. Wings were tiny, dried out and underneath the buffalo sauce had a bbq flavour, so they must have been reheated with a fresh sauce. We didn’t finish the food. No one came up to check in on us. When we communicated that we weren’t happy with the food, staff member just shrugged her shoulders and still charged the full price. No apology or anything. Really disappointed with the service and food. Quality of food did not reflect menu price. Would not recommend!!!

Bodies of Water
Bullock Harbour is a picturesque and charming destination offering stunning views of James Joyce Martello Tower, Forty Foot, Sorrento Point, and Killiney Bay. Visitors may be fortunate enough to spot a pod of bottlenose dolphins or observe a variety of wildlife such as rare birds, wild goats, and a seal colony. The harbor is also known for its lively atmosphere with local fishermen and an opportunity to embark on fishing trips during the summer.
We often come to the small port here because sometimes there are fresh lobsters and crabs here, and we have also fished here. Looking at the sea always makes me miss home. The people here are also very nice. Occasionally you will see seals. A good experience

I went for a short break from the city, place was full of Fisherman's but nothing bad, but the peace and quiet form the pace was amazing. Good to take sun (if you are lucky enough for a sunny day in Dublin ☺️)
Raul — Google review
Just to have a walk out of Dalkey, but nothing really to see. Dirty, no services.
Mircea-Bogdan T — Google review
Nice picturesque little harbour. Sit and chat with friends on a nice day and admire the view to howth over Dublin Bay. Keep your eyes peeled and there's a good chance of spotting some seals around the rocks outside the harbour mouth.
Michael S — Google review
Such a lovely harbour. In summer great place to rent a boat for a bit of fishing. The pier is still damaged from the beast from the East storm, however work is underway. Hopefully not too much longer. Cliffs / rocks on back give great views and are good for adventurous children.
Fergus W — Google review
Small harbor with a lot of gulls and seals. Lovely place for a little break. You can always find an empty bench with a good sea view. Also, it's the start point for Dalkey island trips.
Viktoriia S — Google review
Great and authentic view. There are benches available to sit and enjoy the view. A seal was swimming very close to pier when we were there. Watch out of seagulls)

Beautiful place to visit. Like a little bit of rural Ireland in the suburbs.

Kayaking & Canoeing
Kayaking.ie offers daily guided kayak tours in the Dalkey area, providing an award-winning experience suitable for all. The coaching received on the beginners' course was highly professional and informative, covering practical, safety, and rescue drills over two days. Participants gained a solid grounding in enjoying the sport safely while learning about architecture. During a kayaking trip with knowledgeable guides, participants enjoyed stunning views of the coastline and encountered plenty of seals.
I did the 2pm tour with my Mum. It was amazing to see our coastline from a different point of view. We saw plenty of marine wildlife, including grey seals basking on rocks. It was a great workout and a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. Jenny's friendliness and welcoming nature added to the experience!

Went out this morning and Conditions were perfect 👌 All equipment needed was provided, well organised. Tour was informative and fun. My priority was seeing seals and I saw plenty. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. Thanks all!!

We did the 5:30pm tour and couldn’t recommend it highly enough! Signup was smooth, reasonable price, clear communication beforehand, easy access for beginners, topped off by amazing views (including seals and local birds) and an excellent guide — thanks Philip!
Luke H — Google review
First class tour, we had Philip as our tour guide. Excellent instructor on the fundamentals of kayaking, very knowledgeable on the wildlife and local history. Wonderful tour of Dalkey and over to Dalkey island. All equipment was modern, easy parking too. Highly recommend 👌
Gary F — Google review
A great afternoon spent kayaking around Dublin bay. Learned plenty from kayak leader Philip and his team (Amy & Dan)
Darran L — Google review
Had a great tour with Philip. All equipment was provided and he gave excellent instruction for two complete beginners. The wind direction meant we had to set out from Dunlaoighaire rather than Dalkey but still plenty of wildlife to see and the seals were a highlight.

Great craic. Phil and James were brilliant, taking us out on an engaging and fun kayak tour of Dalkey island. Great focus on safety and making sure there were plenty of breaks so no one was left behind or struggling. If you’re doing this I’d recommend bringing old shoes with you!

Absolutely wonderful day kayaking at Bullock Harbour. Beautiful weather and loads of seals came out to say hi! Hamish looked after us and made the trip all the better! Will definitely come back next time we visit Dublin!

Specialty Museums
The Joyce Tower Museum, located in the seaside village of Sandycove, is a Martello tower that holds significant memorabilia related to the renowned author James Joyce. This historical site served as Joyce's residence for six nights in 1904 and inspired the opening scenes of his novel 'Ulysses.' The museum showcases a collection of letters, photographs, first editions, personal belongings of Joyce, and items associated with the Dublin depicted in 'Ulysses.'
The James Joyce Tower Museum in Sandycove is an absolute gem and a must-visit for literature and history enthusiasts! First of all, it’s completely free to enter, which is incredible considering the richness of the experience you’ll have there. The highlight of my visit was meeting Cristina, an amazing Argentinian lady who works there. She has such a passion for the history of the tower and James Joyce’s legacy. Cristina shared fascinating stories about the place and some wonderful anecdotes about Joyce that brought his life and works to life in such a unique way. Her enthusiasm and knowledge truly made the visit unforgettable! The museum itself is beautifully preserved, and climbing to the top of the tower gives you stunning views of Sandycove and the surrounding area. It’s a small but powerful glimpse into literary history and Irish culture. Whether you’re a James Joyce fan or just curious about Dublin’s heritage, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss. Thank you, Cristina, for making my visit so special!
Josep P — Google review
Tiny James Joyce museum in beautiful tower. The kind museum staff can tell everything about this interesting writer, and history of the tower. Climb the top of the tower via the very narrow staircase. Free entrance.
Ger R — Google review
Really interesting museum for both military history and Joyce fans. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Great views from the roof but even if you don't climb the narrow stairs, the lower levels have lots of information. Free to enter, donations accepted.
Eileen's I — Google review
A unique haven for every devotee of James Joyce. The staff welcomed me with warmth and kindness. Within these walls, treasures abound— relics, photographs, rare books— each a whisper from another time. The air itself seemed steeped in enchantment, a spellbinding atmosphere that honors the greatest writer of the twentieth century.
Ferdinando F — Google review
I had a fantastic experience at the museum! Although it is small, it is rich in details. It's definitely worth a visit, not only because they have the first edition of Ulyssesand some personal belongings of James Joyce, but especially because the tower itself is mentioned in the first chapter of the book. The guides, John and Matt, were incredibly friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable!
Camila C — Google review
Extraordinary staff and exhibits. Best introduction to James Joyce ever. Beautiful seaside setting at the mouth of Dublin Bay in charming village of Sandycove. Convenient Dart train from Dublin. Free admission.

interesting and beautiful place. but I was certainly thrilled by the experience of the volunteer Brian who explained the history of the place to me in a very compelling way and with passion. really much appreciated. a greeting from Italy, a big hug to all the volunteers who work hard every day to keep the museum running🫶🏻
Giulia S — Google review
I have always enjoyed every visit. Initially I just wanted to experience the stupendous penthouse style 360° views from the cannon platform. More recently, I'm attracted to Joyce as a unique unsurpassed Irish Artist. Now, years later, I have decided Joyce is a force I cannot resist, and have resolved to explore his vortices and vectors, whilst realising there are few such diamonds in our 'rough'. I set forth, nervous, feeling rather inadequate, but full of expectation. I anticipate never being bored again!

Ice cream shop
On a sunny day, there is often a queue of ice cream lovers outside Bel Gelato, where they can indulge in flavors like salted caramel or sour cherry sorbet. This shop has been known since the gelato day at work. On one occasion, after a walk on Kiliney hill, I decided to try something different and more citrusy than my usual chocolate gelato.
Well, what can I say ? Amazing ice-cream, great staff and very nice store. Very high ice-cream quality so I go there whenever I need one. Thank you very much !
Philippe W — Google review
Bel Gelato in Dalkey is, without a doubt, the best ice cream in Ireland — truly Italian-style and full of authentic flavor. My personal favorites are the pistachio, which is rich and nutty, and the salted caramel, which instantly reminds me of the *dulce de leche* I grew up loving in Uruguay. The service is always warm and welcoming, whether from the friendly staff or the owner himself, and the place is usually busy — a clear sign of its excellent quality. One of the best parts is making the cycle from Dublin down to Dalkey along the dedicated bike lanes and rewarding yourself at the end with an amazing gelato. It’s the perfect combination of exercise, scenery, and indulgence. Highly recommended!
Gustavo I — Google review
I’ve known this shop since I had the Gelato day at work. First time walked in the shop in Dalkey after Kiliney hill walk and it was still so good! I got Chocolate gelato before so I thought why not trying something different and more citrusy. So I’ve got Blood Orange and Lemon Sorbet. Both of them were so so good. Very refreshing and authentic Italian gelato flavour! Highly recommend it especially on sunny day!
Eunju L — Google review
Most definitely the best ice cream I've had in Ireland, gone here many times. The pistachio ice cream is a rare gem as it's 100% legit where as other places you might go to the pistachio would be with other nuts. In my opinion the best combos to get our salted caramel and pistachio and lemon and blood orange. Everything tastes absolutely delicious and isn't artificial whatsoever highly recommend for a hot day, to go with family and they also make a delicious expresso!
Ginabobeina — Google review
My favourite ice-cream place in Dublin. Amazing, traditional, creamy, tasty ice-cream made by a real traditional Italian ice-cream maker.
Goran P — Google review
I like the strawberry and chocolate ice cream because it isn't too sweet or artificial. The ice cream at Bel Gelato is better than the majority of the gelaterias in Italy.
John M — Google review
The best gelato in ireland for years, the quality is just always amazing. Great flavours too.
Sylvia B — Google review
Great gelato. So far the only place I found in Dublin that makes zabaione gelato. Also the owner is very nice. Definitely a must if you are in Dalkey

Perfect!! The very best meal we had during our holidays in Ireland. We shared mussels as a starter and then had the grilled lobster. Delicious! Olivia served us with her wonderful smile and she made us feel very welcome. Thank you, Olivia. This is the place to be and eat in Dalkey!

Back again for the fish & chips! Really really good but I’d love to see the little extras at Ouzos; some nice breads before the meal, a surprising garnish with the main dish and a mint to cleanse the palate at the end of the meal. More peas with the fish & chips please! I will be back.

Been there last week with 8ppl, had a lovely service, great atmosphere, delicious food and good price. The Chief and the owner is amazing as always, coming to welcome you and thank you during your dining. Totally recommend. High class restaurant.

First time here and it was a fantastic experience! The food was lovely, the ambience was class and the the staff were brilliant! Tried Crab for the first time and it was delicious! Highly recommended, especially people looking for seafood!
Sneha J — Google review
Ouzos in Dalkey deserves a standing ovation, especially for their 1kg Lobster Thermidor! But let's rewind a bit - before diving into this seafood marvel, I kicked off with their delightful Seafood Chowder. A perfect prelude to what became an unforgettable seafood feast! 🥣🦐 Flashback to a bustling Dublin evening in October, and amidst the rugby night rush, Ouzos emerged as a true gem. The 1kg Lobster Thermidor was the star of the show - succulent, rich, and utterly satisfying. It was an indulgence that made the city buzz fade into the background. Ouzos isn't just about exquisite seafood; it's about an experience. The quality, the flavours, and the warmth of the ambiance all contribute to a memorable dining affair. If you're a seafood enthusiast or just seeking an exceptional meal in Dalkey, Ouzos is an absolute must-visit. 🦞✨

Ouzos is a delightful place in a delightful location. We enjoyed perfectly fried and crisp calamari with a spicy chili jam. My wife had scampi and chips and they were tasty and delicious. My lobster and crab salad was perfect: avocado, mozzarella, fresh veggies and fantastic lobster and prawn claws. Just look at.the picture, although it can not convey how satisfied I was. Staff is kind, quick and always smiling. We will definitely go back, it's now our favourite fish place.

Nice and comfy place. We dropped in but decided to take just takeaway coffee.Staff very friendly and attentive.Latte was nice.Plenty of seating spaces inside. There was a table with chairs outside to enjoy the great weather.
Oksana V — Google review
this is the place I would love to find always for breakfast. Coffee and food were just amazing and the way how are prepared is enchanted. People who work in it, music, place, give a very relaxing atmosphere.. it is not only about to sit in a place for having breakfast, it is also about experience. The option of dishes is also more variable than usual. Normally you find Irish breakfast, Benedict eggs and not the possibility to opt for more healthier plates. Here we find bagels with cheese, eggs pounched with avocado and Parmesan cheese, granola yoghurt and Irish honey.. Thanks for giving us the possibility to start our day deleciously!

A lovely local café in Dalkey, filled with locals who are all greeted warmly by the chef/owner. We had french toast with bacon and maple syrup and it was perfect.

Really great place to sit on a sunny day. Staff really friendly. One small thing was the glasses we got were a bit dirty probably just a bit unlucky with the dishwasher but that aside food was really good.

What a beautifull place in Dalkey. Not in the main street so not everyone knows about that place, plus for us cause was not overcrowded. Service was excellent, pastries was nice, warm and miami. Coffee and Hot chocolate super tasty with lovely art. There is a garden area as well. That's my new favor spot and will visit everytime when in Dalkey . Love it
