Mountain cable car
LOEN Skylift is a popular attraction in Stryn, Norway, offering visitors a thrilling ride to the top of Mount Hoven. The cable car ascends over 1,000 meters in just five minutes, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding fjords, mountains, and glaciers. Located in the picturesque fjord region at the eastern end of Nordfjord, Loen is a hub for outdoor activities and adventures.
Did a short trip with my family in the afternoon around 17:00 pm. No queue, and very nice view. The lift was awesome and the facility around at the top was also great. Many hiking trail and a really recommended to take the time walking around on the top. Restaurant and cafe shop were also quite nice. Zip line activity for the sporty one.
Vu T — Google review
Fantastic experience! We went around 6 PM – no queues at all. The weather was beautiful, and the ride up is super exciting. It only takes about 5 minutes, but the feeling of height is incredible. This was my first time here, but I’ll definitely be back soon. We also went for a walk at the top and enjoyed a delicious meal at the restaurant. Excellent service and top-class facilities. Highly recommended for everyone to visit!
Bo G — Google review
Absolutely has to be done if you are in the area. We arrived at the start of the day and very misty but managed to see some stunning views as well as experience the lift with amazing views. Highly recommended.
Ian M — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Words cannot describe the views from the top of this skylift. Simply wonderful. If you go to Olden this is an absolute must.
Mike I — Google review
The Loen Skylift takes you up quickly. Up there you will enjoy many amazing viewpoints, with amazing scenery. It is also recommended to hike up there for extra viewpoints.
Nissim C — Google review
Fantastic views, even on a cloudy/rainy day. The top of Loen skylift is a few degrees colder than the ground but there are plenty of hiking trails and activities to keep you warm and get the adrenalin rush. The cafe is the bar inside the restaurant where you can order delicious cakes and hot chocolate, yummy.
Joy — Google review
Fantastic trip to do when visiting the area. Seemed to be long queues earlier in the day. Part of our pre booked trip took us to other beauty spots further away and then came back to it around 3pm and there were no queues at all. The lift itself is a great experience in itself. Not for people with a fear of heights or vertigo , it's a very steep climb. The views from the top are stunning as is the landscape and surroundings. There are multiple places for great photo opportunities, toilets , gift shop , some coffee and cakes and then what seemed to be a very nice restaurant. Bit of a queue to get back down , worth considering if you need to be back at the cruise port. It's was much colder and wetter at the top so dress accordingly.
John R — Google review
Wow, wow, wow. If you're heading to Olden, this is something you simply have to do. Would recommend booking directly through them (if on a cruise, you can book Shuttle bus + Skylift tickets at the dock), as you'll save time and money. The earlier the better - We got on a shuttle bus at 09:15, and we were up at the summit before 10:00am. Skip the queues!

Strynsvatn Camping, located in Veslebygda, offers fishing permits for purchase at several nearby camping sites. The campsite provides various permit options for fishing enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful view and well-maintained facilities including new washrooms, showers included in the price, and a spacious kitchen area. The staff is attentive and responsive to guests' needs. Accommodation options range from basic cabins with shared bathrooms to more luxurious cabins with private facilities.
Strynsvatn camping - Worth a visit all year round. We were visiting this place in the middle of january 2025 and it was definitely one of our highlights of our Norway roadtrip. Johan was the best host imaginable. Chatting with him felt more like talking to a friend rather then your typical destination host. He made sure we had the best possible stay and even gave us a massive upgrade of our booked cabin, since there were so few people there at the time.Thank you for your kindness and hospitality Johan! You truly made our time there an unforgettable one. Strynsvatn and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. True postcard material, especially in winter. One tip: Be sure to bring a car, as the public transport infrastructure on the norwegian country side makes getting around tough.

Beautifully located between the mountains, this place offers a peaceful and serene atmosphere with easy access to nearby areas. The common spaces were exceptionally clean, and the owners were incredibly welcoming and kind, making the stay even more enjoyable.

Parked here for one night in our camper van. The location by the fjord was very nice. However, by late season the hedges are overgrown and limit your view. The WiFi was very limited no matter where you were. The bathrooms were clean AND MODERN. Showers were free. Washing machine with dryer for a costs. Power was free. The kitchen was modern with plenty of additional amenities (soap, sponges, towels, water kettle, etc). The water point was non-operational for the hose was duct taped and had no pressure. All the water was lost to the leak. The website is nice for it shows what each spot looks like and their views.

Great camping in the Stryn area. Very nice camping spot for our car with a roof tent. Clean toilets and showers. Also great to have a shared kitchen (need to bring your own pots and pans). Friendly staff with some nice recommentions for the Stryn area

We had the pleasure of enjoying: - A warm and welcoming receptionist - A sauna with panoramic views over Lake Strynsvatn, including towels - Beautiful, modern sanitary facilities with wonderful showers (at no extra charge) The best we had on our trip in Scandinavia. - A pitch with a view over the lake and electricity (at no extra charge) And we left with: - Clean, dry laundry - A well-rested feeling - A full water tank - A big smile :) Thank you!
M. L — Google review
Stayed here with my husband and 2 doggies for a long weekend in July. We both agreed that the facilities on the campsite are some of the best we have experienced - clean showers and toilets with plenty of hot water. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. All the common areas were neat and tidy. The site was suitable for dogs and seemed great fun for children with a park and swimming spot nearby.

Amazingly friendly staff who'll happily give advice and help you out. This place also has a nice exhibition and all the information you'll need before visiting glaciers. There is also a nice selection of maps here. As well as a nice cafe and useful facilities. Big thumbs up! Go here first!

As it was my birthday while we were in the are Mrs Mono kindly bought me a helicopter flight over the national park, mountains, lakes and fjords which offered breathtaking views of everything in the area, but especially the Jostedal Glacier. For security reasons, we weren't allowed to fly directly over the glacier, but we got as close as possible, and I would recommend this extra without a doubt - I would have sacrificed dinner and drinks were it a question of money - a once in a lifetime experience!

It was a little small, but it was nice. Also nice souvenirs and a great movie about this Fjord, which’s also in the Dutch language available. Lovely people working here and the garden outside was also nice with a great view.

Campground
Mindresunde Camping is a picturesque campsite with well-maintained grounds and competitive prices. The camping area offers beautiful views of the lake, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. Visitors can choose to stay in cabins or set up tents amidst the serene surroundings. The facilities include clean toilets, a small kitchen, and access to fishing permits for the lake. Families with children will appreciate that those aged 16 and under do not require a fishing permit.
We stayed in one of the cabins and had a great experience. Everything was clean and well-maintained — the kitchen was fully equipped and the beds were really comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful, always smiling and making sure everyone felt welcome. His wife, who runs the place with him, is such a kind and warm person — you can tell they really care about this campground. The location is also great — just a short drive from Stryn town centre, but still quiet and surrounded by beautiful nature. Would definitely come back!

I absolutely loved my stay at this campsite! Cabin 10, The location is breathtaking, surrounded by stunning mountains, lakes with clear water. The site is well-maintained, clean, and offers just the right balance between comfort and a true outdoor experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed how quiet and relaxing the area. I’ll definitely be coming back again

Wonderful stay with amazing hosts! We stayed in “Hytte 6”, a simple cabin, but very clean, well-maintained, and with everything we needed. You bring your own bedding (which we knew in advance), and we especially enjoyed the veranda thanks to the great weather. It even had an oven, perfect for baking fresh rolls in the morning! The owners are incredibly kind and helpful, from the friendly email contact before our stay to going above and beyond on site. She even lent me a pan from her own kitchen so I could make pancakes, and he got up at 5:30 in the morning to help start my car so I could catch the ferry to Denmark. A small tip: adding a drying line on the veranda and a traditional cooking pan would make the cabin even better. Highly recommended, not just for the facilities, but for the warm, personal touch of the hosts.
Karin J — Google review
Very nice campsite with beautiful view over the lake. We had a place directly at the water. We put our car parallel to the waterside, but the owner lady came shouting that we should place it perpendicular. Oke, no problem, but why get so angry? First time in Norway that we got such a bad treatment (and we were in Norway 3 times before). We will not be back on this site.
Matje S — Google review
We camped in a tent and were pleasantly surprised by how spotless the sanitary facilities were — everything smelled fresh and was cleaned regularly. The staff were very welcoming and polite, always around if you needed anything. The location is absolutely stunning — surrounded by mountains, with a magical lake nearby and even a view of a glacier in the distance. The whole area is calm and perfect for nature lovers. We loved every moment of it!
Johnny B — Google review
The views from the campsite was stunning! In between the mountains, waterfall and the water. A quiet place with clean infrastructure. Has a washing machine and a dryer and 2 places to cook. Showering in included in the price.
Doreen S — Google review
The owner was aggressive from the moment we arrived, without any clear reason. At first, we assumed she might be having a bad day and chose not to take it personally. However, things escalated when she came into the kitchen and rudely demanded that we remove our food immediately. We calmly explained that we were in the middle of cleaning and would take everything out shortly. Despite this, she continued shouting for no reason. It was so unpleasant that even other guests came to us afterward to apologize for her behavior and reassured us that not all Norwegians behave like that.

Sande Camping is a laid-back resort located on the picturesque shores of Lake Loen. The camping site offers beautiful cabins with terraces overlooking the lake, providing an idyllic setting for a relaxing stay. Visitors can enjoy amenities such as BBQ areas, a cafe, and direct access to the lake. The facilities are well-maintained, including clean showers and a kitchen equipped for cooking. Families will appreciate the children's playground and swimming area by the lake.
This camping is the best I have been to, perfect for backpacker's. First of all we got a ton of value, it was almost to cheap to stay there compared to what the camping offers. The staff was super friendly, and they have equipment like a full kitchen and dining area free to use, good shower's free to use and washing machines for clothes, they have different activities around the place with fire pit pan's, table tennis and so on. They also have small cars for rent, to a very good price, they were so fun to drive around with. We had a tent down by the river, and they have fresh water taps close by. The road to the camp is narrow, so drive slow. Also the people in the area are super nice to tourists. Will recommend this camp, that's why I took these photos. Far above our expectations!
Helge B — Google review
We spent one night there and it was really awesome, the camping is really nice and the owners are very friendly. We paid 475 NOK for a small 3-person cabin, it costed just 50NOK more than the place for tent. The facilities are well renovated and maintained, everything was there!
Ryan — Google review
Incredibly comfortable place in a great location. We slept in a tent and it was great to cook and wash in the shared facilities, which were really clean and functional. I will definitely come here again.
Jonne L — Google review
What a scenery from the camping site! Breathtaking, perfect for families, perfect for camping. A need to see for everyone.
Victor M — Google review
Stunning lakeside location but seriously overcrowded during peak season. The facilities simply can't handle the number of people they accept. Main facilities are at the hilltop requiring a long walk from lakeside pitches - very inconvenient for toilet trips. All showers use push-button timers that last only seconds. With so many people, you can expect some mess. Someone left toilet doors open overnight making the shower area freezing cold, and the kitchen became a complete mess. Arrived at 1 PM to find them "fully booked" (first time on our trip), but they offered us "spot number 0" next to pitch 1 - apparently on land they don't normally use due to potential landslide risk! 😂 Then they squeezed another tent right next to us anyway.
Soohyun P — Google review
Incredibly nice and chill owners, the kitchen is more equipped than my house, insane view, if I could give 6 stars I would.

Lovatnet Lake, located in Norway's Stryn region, is a stunning natural attraction surrounded by majestic mountains and pristine landscapes. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as camping, boat rentals, fishing, and picnicking while immersing themselves in the enchanting allure of the area. The lake's beauty is truly breathtaking, especially on sunny days when it glows under the sun.
My favourite place in Norway so far. Enjoying it in Winter time and in summer time. Magical turquoise blue water.
Sintija Z — Google review
For a motorcycle rider, going in here and going out the same way, is twice the experience. A unique valley, a unique lake. Just let yourself be immersed in the wonderful nature.

I was expecting more... Yes, the lake is beautiful, the turquoise water is mesmerizing. But it is a very inconvenient road (one lane for two directions of cars), as well as very crowded during the season, places need to be booked very, very in advance. Overrated. There are much more beautiful and free lakes nearby
Lena M — Google review

Hidden gem of a lake, just off the beaten track but accessible by car (20 min drive from Loen). It did not only exceed our expectations but ran circles even around Geirangerfjord which was overran by tourists, whilst here we could enjoy the awe-inspiring views in solitude.
Aron T — Google review
Absolutly breathtaking. Definitly a must see on your trip though norway. What a magical place. You can't believe this is real, unless you see it. Choose a sunny day, because the sun makes the lake glow. The first two pictures were made early in the morning. The last after the sun was up. There are a lot of camping sites with showers and toiletts, i recommend using them (around 250 NOK). We could't find a free and flat camping spot, that was not directly on the street, where you really don't want to park and most area around the camping sites is privat property with not camping shields. You can rent small rowing boats or kajaks at different camp sites, check in advance.

Scenic spot
Nestled in the charming village of Stryn, Norway, Kjenndal Glacier is a stunning natural marvel that captivates travelers from all corners of the globe. As a prominent attraction in Stryn, it is a branch of the expansive Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which holds the distinction of being mainland Europe's largest glacier. The glacier boasts remarkable ice formations and is set amidst breathtaking surroundings, offering an unparalleled experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
Lovely place, nice nature, great view on glacier and all waterfalls around it. You can basically park 400m before viewpoint, it is paid and you need to paid in online. It is 70NOK. You can also get there by bike or by foot. Entire route is beautiful. On the way is small restaurant by the lake where you can refresh yourself.
Marek H — Google review
Finally got close to a glacier after we had to abort the hike to a different glacier due to bad weather. It was really amazing view and also sad to know that the glacier is getting melted every year. There is a toll road to reach the closer parking lot.
Hasangi K — Google review
Amazing place, definitely worth visiting! Waterfalls and the glacier with splendid lake!
Volodymyr ( — Google review
I enjoyed this short hike a lot. It's not strenuous at all, I saw some pregnant women walking it, at least to the end of unpaved road. Plus a lot of other people on bikes or by foot got just there. After that you continue walking on the rocks, till you get to the glacier. One disadvantage is that the paths on the rocks are not marked, neither clearly visible. You usually just walk wherever it's feasible for you. So better take some good hiking shoes. No tickets to enter the place needed. Also the parking lot at the beginning of the train was free of charge.
Jana K — Google review
You‘ll have to pay 100NOK or 200NOK (camper) to go there, but absolutely worth it if the weathet is good! Drive to the end of the gravel road to the parking spot. There is a gravel footpath 400m to a patform. But don‘t stopt there! Put on some good shoes and walk the natural stony trail even further to the glacier. It starts next to the empty red metal sign. The trail takes you 10-15min (one road) to the river. Best for fotos is before noon when the sun is not yet there. But also good with the sun just harder to make good fotos. The restaurant down the road on the lake only serves warm food starting at 1PM, no vegetarian options.

The food was okay and the cups are plastic, but the prices are quite high for the quality. If you want to sit by the window, you’ll need to reserve in advance, though the view is still visible from most of the other tables. The service was decent, but not particularly warm. The location is definitely the highlight if you’re not hungry, you might just enjoy the view from the viewpoint above the restaurant instead.

This restaurant possibly has the best panorama in the world! At the top of the Louen Sky Lift on Mt. Hoven it serves delicious and fabulously presented Norwegian specialities as well as family favourites. We wanted to try dishes from the area and Justin could not have been more helpful with his excellent suggestions. He was extremely welcoming and professional. The views are spectacular and somewhere not to be missed on a visit to Olden.
Ashleigh A — Google review
I visited Hoven on 17 August 2025 and was deeply disappointed by the poor attitude of the reception. Their bad attitude and the face of “I don’t care” made me feel unwelcome and ruined my experience. I expected better from a place known for Norway. This behavior needs to be addressed to ensure other customers don’t have a similar experience. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements.

Hjelle Hotel is a charming 19th-century hotel located in Stryn, offering breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast and features a sauna and fitness center for recreational activities. Guests can enjoy delicious afternoon tea by the fjord and appreciate the beautiful traditional atmosphere of this family-owned hotel.
The location of Hjelle Hotel is out of this world and far exceeded our expectations. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. We stayed in one of the balcony rooms in the concrete building and the view was breathtaking. The room was super clean, quiet, functional, and comfortable. The service was friendly and breakfast was simple but good. There is a good hike nearby with fantastic views. The hotel is historic and cozy and a unique experience.

We slept in the separate building for 3 nights. The location is stunning on the water's edge. The breakfast is very good. Lorenz was patient and answered all our requests and questions. The location is excellent for the Geirangerfjord and the glacier. the room is a bit small but it was OK .

This hotel is an absolute gem in this area. We stayed in the motel next to the main building, and our experience was very smooth and pleasant. The room had everything we needed, including a small hairdryer. The shower water pressure was great, and we could enjoy a lovely view of the water from the small patio. Breakfast was very nice, and you can even take coffee and some snacks to go for a fee about 140 Swedish Kronas - such a thoughtful detail! We took sandwiches for lunch :)

This hotel was one of our favorite hotels in all of Norway. The location is just breathtaking. Stunning. We wandered around for hours just staring at the lake and the mountains. It was so peaceful it felt unreal. The hotel itself has a bed and breakfast vibe - there was a cozy comfy sitting area with a pool table, books, etc. The room was very clean, it had no TV which at first I thought I was going to die but actually the Wi-Fi was really good so my phone could entertain me when it got dark. The bathroom was very clean and modern. The front desk receptionist (also possibly the manager?) is SO funny and SO nice - in that Norwegian way. We are normally not really social people but man - it was fun to talk to him. The hotel has a free row boat! Turns out I'm terrible at rowing boats but you can't beat the view! You can also rent kayaks on site. The breakfast was delicious!!!

This is a must visit stop for delicious cakes and indescribable views. Simply gorgeous with the cakes to match the scene!! Have to get the cheesecake with the berry topping - unreal! People inside are so friendly and helpful. Lots of outdoor seating at tables overlooking the mountains and lake. Unreal

We stayed in the motel portion that’s not attached to the main hotel and had a wonderful time. Beds were very comfortable, rooms were very clean, staff was extraordinary and the breakfast was divine. Close by there is a short hike to a waterfall that was beautiful. We really enjoyed our quiet little stay here. The red boat is free to use for hotel guests and there was also plenty of parking! We would recommend staying here 100%

I did not stay in the hotel but we wanted to rent kayaks, we looked everywhere around without success, but at Hjelle Hotel they do 😁 Two kayaks and two paddleboards! We tried the kayak, it was 290 nok for 1 kayak 2h, it was super fun. Very easy to rent ! And the lake was beautiful. Really a good spot for a kayak tour

Visited Olden in the Jostedalsbreen National Park as part of a Norwegian fjords cruise. Really enjoyed our time here. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Would highly recommend recommend a visit here.

Jostedalsbreen National Park, established in 1991, is located in western Norway and spans 1,310 square kilometers. It is home to Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on mainland Europe, which dramatically shapes the park’s terrain of steep valleys, high peaks, and expansive ice fields. --- Landscape & Nature The glacier itself covers about 800 square kilometers. It has many arms extending into lush valleys, with the most famous including Briksdalsbreen, Nigardsbreen, and Austerdalsbreen. The park ranges in elevation from around 350 meters to over 2,000 meters at Brenibba. The powerful contrast between icy blue glaciers and green lowlands makes this park a photographer’s and hiker’s paradise. --- Outdoor Activities Glacier Hiking: Guided hikes on Nigardsbreen and other glacier arms offer a safe and thrilling experience. Crampons and safety gear are typically provided. Hiking Trails: Popular routes include the scenic walk to Briksdalsbreen (3 km roundtrip) through waterfalls and wildflower meadows, and more challenging mountain hikes in Jostedalen. Ski Touring: In spring, ski touring is possible across the glacier. The "Josten på langs" route is a famous multi-day challenge. Kayaking & Rafting: Paddle in glacial lakes or navigate glacier-fed rivers for a close-up look at the power of ice and meltwater. --- Visitor Centers Breheimsenteret (Jostedalen): Located near Nigardsbreen, it provides insights into the glacier's geology, wildlife, and climate. Jostedalsbreen National Park Centre (Oppstryn): Set beside Lake Oppstryn, this center highlights the park’s natural and cultural history. Norwegian Glacier Museum (Fjærland): Features interactive exhibits and the Ulltveit-Moe Climate Centre focused on glaciers and climate change. --- Weather Conditions (May 26, 2025) The park is currently experiencing light rain and temperatures around 3°C. Conditions are cold and wet, so proper rainproof clothing and footwear are essential for all activities. --- Getting There Jostedalsbreen National Park is accessible by car and bus: From Oslo: Drive via E16 to Lærdal, then take Highway 5 toward Sogndal and Fjærland. From Bergen: Take E16 east to Lærdal, then continue on Highway 5. From Trondheim: Follow E6 south to Otta, then take Highway 15 west toward Stryn. Summer buses connect Sogndal to Breheimsenteret and other visitor areas.

My wife and I took a trip to the base of this park, which is really to go and see the glacier off in the distance and the lake and river which flow from it. It was fascinating, as indeed was the visitor centre there, which had very informative films and displays. The trip there back was both beautiful and amazing with the gla ier in the distance, the lake at its foor, and then the torrents of water which flow from it down the valley making for an exciting stretch of water.

Large national park with many hiking trails leading up to the glaciers. They have guided tours as well as camp sites. Very beautiful landscape, a must see when visiting Norway.

06.2024/ what can be more beautiful than visiting the Kjenndal Glacier Kjenndalsbreen, alone, with nobody around at that time, in an absolute quietness. Amazing experience. We managed to arrive in the area around 19:00 so everything was mysteriously quiet and beautiful calm. We were alone the entire time. Such a quality time! Due to the fact that it is located between two mountain peaks, this glacier it is much more imposing than Briksdal glacier and definitely worth the trip. You can visit the Kjenndal Glacier Kjenndalsbreen at any time of day because the access is automatic through video camera; 70 nok per car

Sensational National Park. You can spend weeks exploring its beauty if the weather is good. You can approach the glacier from almost every side. The campgrounds around are one of the best in Norway. Be prepared that it can get very crowded in the summer months. There are many hidden beautiful trails though if you ask the locals.

Very accessible glacier hikes and beautiful scenery. Many arms accessible from various points at the edges of the park. And at the end of the season mid-Sept felt like we had it all to ourselves with barely anyone around!!

Briksdalsbreen is one of the most popular arms of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which is the largest glacier in mainland Europe. It descends from a height of 1200m down the Briksdalen valley to a small glacial lake, offering stunning views and attracting visitors from around the globe. Accessible via a hiking trail amidst waterfalls and towering mountains, it provides an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.
A marvellous place , easy walk from the parking to the lake where you can see in front of you the glacier, that is much smaller than before. The only problem is the Norwegian who set up a small car ( not electric ) service to bring tourist from the park to the lake !!! People come to the mountain and they don’t even want to walk and enjoy it.
Luca D — Google review
Fun hike and good views! However when you reach the base of the glacier, you actually see less of it. Be sure to take photos when you’re a bit further out (you can do this when returning to the parking lot).
Jeremy C — Google review
Very nice hike! Moderate, out and back hike, suitable for families and strollers, great viewpoints of waterfalls, the glacier and a small lake. The Glacier gets smaller every year which is sad to see but still worth a visit! Took us about 45 minutes each way.

Must come! If you are lucky, you may accidentally park at the parking lot besides paid parking for free like me😂😂. I would say it is totally worth it. If you have no problem with your health, I recommend you to walk up to the glacier because there are some amazing views along the way. You can easily spend 2 or more hours taking photos and picnic there. The energy of the glacier is just magical. MUST-COME. Easy walk. 30 mins up and 30 mins back in total. Worth it!

Breathtaking! Not a long walk to the glacier, 5k in total. Quicker walking back as it is downhill. So many good photo opportunities. The waterfalls are incredible. Well worth the a visit.

Hiked up to the glacier, very scenic all the way up, you miss a lot if you take the troll cars. A few beautiful waterfalls along the way

Easy family route for all ages. Amazing view of the glaciar and glaciar lake. You can take the troll bus or walk to the view. Path is easy, you can take your trolly and family friendly. We had an amazing time. It was very windy and be prepared to have a raincoat to wear it while going through the waterfall. You will get whet.

This place is a must-visit—especially for cruise travelers. As is typical in Norway, you’ll often see rain and sunshine at the same time, so be sure to dress appropriately. If you purchase a round-trip bus ticket, you can hop on any return bus from the same company regardless of the time.

Briksdal Glacier, located in Stryn, Norway, is a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Nestled in the picturesque Jostedalsbreen National Park, this glacier offers an awe-inspiring experience with its impressive size and stunning beauty. A guided tour of Briksdal Glacier provides a unique and intimate exploration opportunity amidst breathtaking views and local wildlife sightings.
This is the second time we have visited the glacier, bringing my daughter as we were celebrating her 21st birthday. The walk up can be a stiff climb if you're not a walker, but troll cars are provided if you are not so inclined! Once at the top you have a great view of the receding glacier. The lake is a very atmospheric location, but very windy on this visit. The views down the valley are very picturesque, of very rugged terrain. We also saw an eagle soaring overhead on this trip, unfortunately my photo didn't come out too well! In all a beautiful spot but it can get crowded so my best advice is to start early.

Nice walk and some hike even with 4 year old traveler. Grab some snacks with you to enjoy the stops on the way. Or you may use a lift service if walking is not available. Some more hiking is available, but we could not afford it with the kid this time :)
Agne S — Google review
This was an experience that we’ll never forget! Definitely worth the hike up, the view is amazing and we loved every second of it. The nature that surrounded us was breathtaking and we appreciated every little thing that we saw. The glacier is amazing and its actually closer than it seems on the photos. The water in the lake is beautiful blue and crystal clear. We can’t recommend this trip enough, and we’d suggest to anyone who can hike up, do it instead of the little little cars that brings you up, because you see more things that way.
Szabó N — Google review
We did this hike as a share excursion from a cruise. To walk one way it takes about 45 minutes. The path is gravel, easy to walk, a bit uphill, quite wide (two to three people can fit side-by-side most of the way). A few sets of steps have to be climbed but there are good handrails installed. Alternatively a troll car can be taken for a fee for most of the way but you miss out on some good views. The glacier and the waterfalls you pass are spectacular!

Absolutely stunning! We set off early to beat the crowds & it paid off with only a few people around. Amazing walk past the powerful waterfall & behind you a panoramic view of the mountains topped off in ice & snow! Then you turn a corner & see the impressive ice blue Glacier & finish at the blue lake below it surrounded by massive mountains - it’s pretty special & a must do!

Take your time if you can. Beautiful hike. It kicked my butt going up and down. Might take the troll cars but you miss a bunch of great views.

Absolutely amazing. We went from Olden Cruise port, catching the 115 bus, which only cost £7.15 for a family of 4. The bus left the cruise terminal at 10:05 and took approximately 40 mins to get the start of the walk. Two service buses are available if enough people are waiting at the port. I was with my 5 and 7 year old and they managed the walk up in 40 mins. The path is a compressed gravel path, trainers are more than suitable for the walk. There are a couple of sets of steps, which are fairly simple with good hand rails. Walking is by far the best way to see all the waterfalls and means you see the best of the sights, which are stunning. The walk down takes slightly less time, about 30mins. There are picnic benches along the side of the paths at regular intervals. The service bus waits whilst you are on the glacier and leaves at 13:30, meaning you have plenty of time and cost another £7.15 for two adults and two children on the return journey. There are toilets available at the bottom of the walk on the shop/cafe. Amazing views, amazing value for money, amazing day, amazing photo opportunities! Would definitely go again.

Olden has two main attractions, the Briksdal Glacier (40 minute bus ride from town), and the skylift (10 min ride from town). If you only have time to do one, the glacier hike should be the one. A 45 minute leisurely walk from the parking lot is full of great , rushing waterfall views in every turn, which leads to the glacier and the lake into which it drains. The scenery is just spectacular. There is a public bus that leaves the cruise port at 10AM, which brings you back at 2pm, for only 49 NOK ($5 USD). Ignore all the other more expensive tours and take the public bus. It takes exactly the same amount of time, you see the exact same thing, and you pay significantly and I mean significantly less.

When exploring Norway Excursions Olden, visitors are treated to a breathtaking experience filled with stunning landscapes and memorable adventures. One popular option is the tour to Briksdal Glacier, which includes a scenic 30-minute bus ride through narrow roads led by an expert driver. The friendly guide provides insights while allowing time for independent exploration at the park, where hikers can marvel at glaciers and waterfalls.
Absolutely beautiful place to visit, even in the slightly inclement weather, Loen skylift is a great way to get some views in and a walk up to the Briksdal glacier is another great thing to do whilst there. If you go on Iona cruise ship, the locals give you a great send off when you leave.

A choice of excursions from buses to the skylift or troll cars, with scenic bus routes and a road train stopping off at various photo opportunity points along the way.... due to weather with low cloud with rain and mist we opted for the toad train, a 50 minute trip stopping off here and there with an interesting commentary pointing out landmarks and points of interest and humorous stories along the way finishing at either the retail outlets or the ship, priced at £26 pp a worthwhile trip catching a glimpse of the glacier. Had the weather been better we would have gone to the sky lift first.

We had a fantastic time on this tour from Olden to the Briksdal Glacier. The tour guide was very friendly, easy to locate at the meeting point, and made sure everyone felt comfortable throughout the trip. We appreciated that we were given plenty of time to enjoy the glacier at our own pace and take in the stunning scenery. The bus was clean and comfortable, and the drive through the beautiful Norwegian countryside was an experience in itself. Our guide shared interesting facts about the area and its history, which really added to the day. We’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Olden — it’s well organized, stress-free, and a great way to see one of Norway’s natural wonders up close.

We are currently on a 17-day cruise through Norway, and our second stop was the beautiful village of Olden. We booked an excursion to the Briksdal Glacier through Viator, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. As soon as we got off the ship, we were warmly welcomed by guides in bright yellow jackets who made it very easy to find our bus. I want to give a special thank you to our driver, Marius (I hope I am spelling that correctly). He showed such thoughtfulness when he saw our two young daughters and immediately went to get booster seats so they could sit higher and enjoy the views out the window. He was a very safe driver and incredibly kind throughout the trip. Our guide Laura was absolutely excellent. She provided interesting commentary during the bus ride and even offered to join us on the hike to the glacier. She took so many photos for us and made the whole experience even more special. Our seven-year-old daughter completely adored her and just wanted to stay by her side the entire time. Laura was knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly gracious. The hike to the Briksdal Glacier was breathtakingly beautiful. Surrounded by waterfalls, towering cliffs, and lush greenery, the entire walk felt like something out of a fairytale. The glacier itself was absolutely stunning and so much fun to explore. Our little girls had the best time running around, skipping along the path, and taking in all the natural beauty. On the way back from the glacier, we stopped at a beautiful lake for about 10 minutes to take photos. It was the perfect spot to pause and enjoy the scenery one more time before heading back. This was a truly special day and one of the highlights of our trip so far. Highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Olden.
Foodieextreme F — Google review
My wife and I took the Briksdal Glacier tour in Olden on one of our cruise stops through Viator, and it was an incredible experience. Our tour guide did a fantastic job providing background and interesting facts about Olden as we made our way to the trailhead for Briksdal Glacier. The hike itself takes about an hour, give or take 15 minutes depending on your pace. There are a few stretches that give your legs/calves a workout, but the effort is absolutely worth it. Along the way, you’ll pass a stunning waterfall that’s both powerful and refreshing, expect to get a misted as you walk by! Once you hit the waterfall, you’re about halfway there or a little more. At the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking views of the glacier spilling into a crystal-clear aqua blue lake filled with floating ice. The 360-degree scenery throughout the hike is simply picturesque, it’s hard not to stop every few steps to take photos or videos. If you enjoy hiking and are physically able, I highly recommend doing the walk. For those who prefer a less strenuous option, there are “troll cars” available that can drive most of the way up. Our guide also made a photo stop at Olden Lake, which offered a spectacular view of the glacier in the background, a nice bonus. This was truly a memorable trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone cruising to or visiting the area!

Our tour guide was friendly and informative and let us explore on our own once we got to the park. The hike to the glacier and waterfalls was wonderful. The scenery is amazing. On the way back, we stopped by Olden lake for a few more pictures. An excellent tour for anyone cruising into Olden.

Via Ferrata Loen, Stigall Ladder

4.5
(108)
Rock climbing
Via Ferrata Loen is an unforgettable adventure for the daring. It takes you high above the fjord, where you can traverse the 120m long Gjolmunnebrua suspension bridge, Europe's longest of its kind. The bridge offers breathtaking views at 750m above sea level. With routes of varying difficulties, it's suitable for those with a good basic fitness level.
I wanted to write this review in hopes it will help others concerned with the difficulty of this climb. My son and I completed the via ferrata Loen as part of his high school graduation trip to Norway. This was one of the primary reasons he chose to come to Norway. This will definitely go down as a core memory for us both as the climb is challenging and the views take the remaining breath away! He has been wall climbing at gyms 2-3 times per week doing intermediate routes. I have been with him to the gym twice and only climbed beginner routes. I do 45 min of cardio 4-5 times per week and he does none, only climbing. We do hike in north Georgia mountains frequently, but this is about the extent of our exercise routines. We are both 6’-3” and 180/235 lbs. All of that to say, the via ferrata definitely pushed my limits, but I never felt that I couldn’t complete it. I’ve always had a terrible fear of heights, and barely slept the night before due to reading all of the other reviews. 😊 During the climb, I was so focused that the heights rarely came to mind. I even elected to do the cable bridge at the end! The views and sense of accomplishment, in addition to having completed this with my son, was well worth all the effort and fear. The approach hike was challenging, but no more than the Appalachian trail sections. The guides took it slow and were encouraging the whole way, offering tips when needed. I would recommend a trip or two with wall climbing to learn basics such as not using your arms. I do not do well with this, lost my strength several times, and had to take many rests mid climb. Maybe training with mountain hikes (5-6 miles with 1,000’+ elevation) so you are not so spent before starting the climb. My son had no issues at all and said this was the time of his life, so again, well worth it!
Brad R — Google review
Wow! It was an amazing experience I completed with my son. We rented the equipment and left at around 530PM. We saw a total of 3 people. Now I would have given it 5 stars if I was in good shape but I haven't worked out for 7 months. Let me just say that if you do this, you must be in excellent shape and have some climbing experience. Otherwise, Via Ferrata will eat you up like it did for someone I know very well, me. My son is the reason I pushed onwards and fought the urge to quit. Oh yeah, once your in it, you cannot just quit, your going all the way to the top.
Shawn G — Google review
This wasn’t our first via ferrata, but it was definitely the most challenging and exciting one we’ve done so far! The entire experience was absolutely perfect — thrilling, well-organized, and carried out with great care. A huge thanks to our guide, Rickard, who made the climb not only completely safe but also incredibly fun. He gave us valuable tips along the way and made sure we felt confident at every step. Even during the occasional wait for people ahead of us, Rickard kept the mood light with funny stories and a great sense of humor. Thank you for this unforgettable adventure — and a special thanks again to Rickard!

Unique experience. The ladder is up high, and has a wobble to it as you move. Not for those with fear of bights. Do not underestimate how long it takes to reach this place, we spend a total of 6 hours hiking and climbing (Via Ferrata). If you do not have Via Ferrata experience, definitely go with the guided group.
Johan — Google review
Loen ferrata is a great experience for everybody with a good basic fitness level. It goes up 1000m, probably 400m-450m of it is hiking, rest climbing. And it offers different routes with varying difficulties of "difficult" - and once you started there's no way back. If you don't want to go with a group (and don't have own equipment with you), be there between 8.00 and 8.30. Alternatively you can rent equipment after 2pm (I think) but given the tour takes a while, I would recommend starting early. Average time to get from the store to the top is said to be about 4-5 hours, but can differ of course based on the route you take, the amount and duration of breaks, waiting times (if you have people on front of you), your own pace... I personally completed the tour in about 3.5hrs. After that, you can continue hiking on top and then either hike back down or take the skylift. Additional note: July 2023, cloudy weather, rained the night before - but no rain during the climb.
C. B — Google review
I climbed Via Ferrata Loen with my cousin from the US, and he called it the best experience of his life — I couldn’t agree more. The views, the adrenaline, and the sense of achievement are unreal. If you’re visiting Norway and have the physical ability, do it. You won’t regret it.
Perkash S — Google review
It was exciting Via Ferrata around 1000m. It is recommended for people that have some climbing experience or with guide. Since we had equipment, we just stopped the store to sign the paper and pay the maintenance fee that was 200nok per person. We parked the car close to the skylift and start walking up to reach to the start point of via ferrata. Then we started climbing till a section reached to the intersection. Last year we tried the normal route (left one) but this year we took the right one that was counted little bit harder. Before continuing I changed my shoes to climbing one and that one really helped me. After that point we reached to the hanging narrow bridge. After little bit more climbing reached to the point that we had two choices passing over cable or you hike up. One of us passed the cable and I hiked up since I afraid of height :)
Anahita — Google review
This Via Ferrata is really beautiful but also demanding. You will need to climb up from the valley. Even the easiest path includes C sections which require good skills. There is also E/F path which is really for professionals. The bridge is just amazing and all the path is well maintained and secured. You will be astonished with the views. I recommend not to enter when it is wet. For the way down you can take the Skylift, which I can recommend. Walking on your own is cca 15 km. We did this in total 5 hrs up.

Hoven, located in the heart of Fjord Norway, offers a range of activities for visitors. In winter, skiing and snowshoeing are popular on Mount Hoven's well-maintained tracks at an elevation of 1,011 meters. The Loen Skylift provides quick access to the mountaintop from the fjord below. During summer, hiking is a great way to explore the area.
On of the most breathtaking spots i personally have ever been to, offering unmatched views and great hiking potential with its plethora of trails. The process to get up there via the lift and the quality of the lift itself were splendid.
Metodi H — Google review
Great infrastructure! Be prepared to stand in line around 30min to go up as well as down. Also the hiking trails are not great. In the effort do be accessible, the trails are all wide and with gravel. But the gravel makes waking up and (even more) down quite slippery. The trails are very steep and walking down must be done in small steps. On the back of the building, we walked up trail number 1 to then go to the left on trail number 3. Trail 3 is around 8km, 523 ascent/descent as it is a round trip. But the first half is gravel and the second half is a black paved road for cars, very steep, 400m ascent on the sun, no shade. This was the most terrible ascent we ever did! We were so unmotivated and hot that we needed an hour, always hoping for a car that would pick us up! Hike 3 is not for children!

Visitors can enjoy warm-weather skiing, off-piste adventures, cross-country trails, and summit hikes. The ski resort was closed! Even though there was still quite a lot of snow. But we took the opportunity to go sightseeing in the area and take a short walk up in the mountains. It is quite extraordinary, breathtaking views, beautiful nature. Kids loved to play with the snow and stones.

It is so narrow to drive in but the narrow road limit the traffic make this place amazing.

Had one of the best experiences here. The staff present there was the most helpful and kind people I've ever met. They helped my father(on a wheelchair) experience the ski trolley. It was one of the most beautiful views you can ever see.

Loved it! Cool experience, to snowboard in the middle of the summer, outside.. And what is even more cool - you can reach this pace with motorcycles and snowboards on :D. And you can swim as well in the icey mountain river if you are brave enough. Atrraction for all family, for sure! Price for skipass 1 day - 490,- NOK You can rent equipment, buy food and drinks in the little cozy coffee-bar at place.

We were there at the end of June 2022. And so much snow !!! A very wild and raw place, which makes it beautiful. A narrow and demanding road, especially when you are driving a motorhome.

No summer skiing available the summer of 2018 anyway. The snow was all gone by end of July when we passed here. But do the trip anyway, the road going her from Geiranger is beautiful!
Håkan N — Google review
Amazing, I got there for the opening day, and had the opportunity to make some of the first track of the season ! The snow was excellent, they have a few jumps so you can have a lot of fun with that. I think they build more of these as the season goes. Everybody is very friendly and kind. The price is ok, 480 NOK for the day. You can rent some skis there but I would advise to come with your equipment if you can. There is a small restaurant that serves barbecued burgers. Would totally go again as soon as possible !

Small but nice camping above the road. 2 showers, 2 toilets and a small kitchen. Nice view.
Ákos P — Google review
We reserved a cabin in advance. However, when we arrived, the owner told us that something went wrong and all the cabins were full. Instead, we were put into a caravan. The caravan itself was nice and had a nice view of the lake. Yet, some things were closed off (such as toilet, water and stove) which was a bit of a shame. Additionally, there was no ordinary cutlery in the caravan, but plastic disposable cutlery. The sanitary facilities were clean, but maybe a little small in capacity.
Nick B — Google review
We booked three cabins. Two thru website, and one by calling them. which was later confirmed in an email. But when we reached there only one cabin was available. Was given a strange reason that her husband is mentally ill who was handling the booking mess up booking by mistake. location is good, but service is hope less. never ever book cabin there.

We rented an electric car. It was available right as we walked off the ship. We had more than enough charge to go the the glacier and back with several stops. No fuel or charge need before the return. We rented the BYD and it was a fun comfortable car for 4 people. (Not available in the US so we took advantage of renting something we can't normally rent). The staff was friendly and everthing went seamlessly.

Mountains
Skåla, Norway's highest mountain located in Jostedalsbreen National Park, offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience. Rising 1,848 meters above the stunning Lake Lovatnet, the ascent involves a demanding climb with breathtaking views of glaciers, fjords, and mountains. The hike leads to Skalatarnet round cabin at the summit, which was built in 1891 and has become an iconic symbol of Skåla.
A beautiful mountain walk 1843 altitude. With good help from the Shjerpa people, the route is very nice. Calculate approximately 8 hours round trip. 22 beds at the top, as well as a couple of tent seats. An experience👍 photo: @engelsen

Loved this hike to the summit of Skala yesterday. Its a tough continuous uphill hike as you would expect going from near sea level to 1848 metres. Paths are good and well marked even the last few hundred metres in the snow are well indicated with the stone cairns. Amazing views but for me very cloudy at the top. Its great there is the tower and new shelter at the top that many people book to stay the night. There are a few drinking water streams up till about 1600 metres. You have to be in good fit shape to make it to the top and with warm gloves and kit etc. I hiked on my own and made it to the top in 3 hours 40 mins with half hour stop round trip was 6 hours 50 mins. Loved it.

Oldevatnet is a stunning lake located in the Oldedalen valley of Stryn, Vestland county, Norway. Covering 7.9 square kilometers and stretching about 12 kilometers in length, it offers breathtaking views with its clean waters surrounded by towering mountains and lush greenery. Visitors can rent bicycles at Kjenndalsstova to explore the area or take a short ride to the Kjenndalsbreen glacier viewpoint.
A wonderful place! Not as busy with tourists as Lovatnet. The purest turquoise water, camping sites, entertainment

A very clean lake surrounded by high mountains, frequently visited by the tourists in the area with an impressive concentration of green trees. The lake can be seen from different high places around it. The lake is very narrow in the middle of it and this gives it a special appeal when you see it from the bridge crossing it at the middle.

Cafe
Stryn Kaffebar & Vertshus is a delightful venue with great food and friendly staff. The vegetarian pizza was perfectly baked with fresh toppings and a nice cheese mouthfeel. The slightly different Focaccia served here is toasted and topped with garlic butter, while the milkshake, though mild, had a nice consistency and thickness. The breakfast and dinner offerings were absolutely sensational, offering tantalizing pasta dishes, succulent steaks, juicy burgers bursting with flavor.
We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The menu is diverse and also meet kid's expectations which is hard. I had the fish soup and it tasted really great. The sneakers pie and pecan pie were delicious. The service was great and inside, it is beautifully decorated. One of my best culinary experiences in Norway. I highly recommend.

We absolutely love our dinner here. My husband and I both chose different cod dishes and they came out fast, gorgeously prepared and tasted excellent. The desert and coffee also did not disappoint. We will come back 100%. We really can’t understand the negative reviews. Service is friendly and efficient. It is our favorite meal in Norway.

We had dinner here twice during our trip, and each time the food was fantastic! We tried the pizza, burgers, and the tagliatelle with mushroom sauce and beef—all of which were delicious. The tagliatelle, in particular, stood out and is highly recommended! The service was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and professional staff who made us feel welcome. We also enjoyed a lovely dessert to top off the meal. A great dining experience overall!

Stopped for a coffee here during our tour of Norway, was very impressed w how friendly the gentleman who took my order was! A rarity ( in my opinion ) in Norway. My guess is that he must have travelled a lot. Great service, great coffee, absolutely great staff, and very clean and modern bathroom.

This typical Norwegian seaside town is simply beautiful and the Stryn Kaffebar is a wonderful catering establishment with friendly and helpful South American staff that welcomed us and fed us great food. Nothing extraordinary about the menu, but it is vast and varied and the sea food dishes were just what we wanted. I would return to this place without hesitation whenever I am in town.
David F — Google review
I dined here twice. Burger the first time which was decent. I had salmon the second time which was pretty good. Service here is hit or miss. There was a gentleman with glasses the first time who was amazing. The second time I didn’t see him and service was mediocre. It’s also unclear when you gi in whether to sit down or order directly at the cashier. Turns out, you pick a table, note the table number and then go to the cashier to order. Overall, it’s a solid option in a town with limited food options.

Enjoyed the nice outdoor seating. The pizza was decent—I had the spicy Loen pizza. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Sunny_ — Google review
I had one of the worst dining experiences at this pizza place. The pizza I was served was overbaked to the point of being nearly inedible, with a strong burnt smell that completely ruined the taste. I ordered 3 pizza all were in same condition. When I politely brought this up to the staff, instead of offering any kind of solution or even acknowledging the issue, the staff member I spoke to was shockingly rude and arrogant. The tone was condescending, and to my disbelief, he told me I should leave if I wasn’t happy. I’ve never been spoken to like that at any restaurant before. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from the staff. I don’t usually write reviews, but this level of disrespect and lack of professionalism needs to be called out. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great not crowded waterfall. U can made a photos from behind him. Worth to go there fore sure. Walk is up to 30 minutes from school parking in village. Around are some old buildings and farm to see and of course beautiful fjord and hills. Do not mist this beautiful place.

Short walk from the car park and back. Fantastic view! For a longer hike, you can take the path down to the fjord shore to see a small museum.

Beautiful falls. We looked at the fall from the top and then took the route down the hill… it was very steep and thus held the trees to prevent slipping. Well worth the hike down (hard work coming up) to see the falls. The walk to the falls is lovely and there are little details that the locals have added along the way.
Susie V — Google review
This waterfall was amazing! You can totally walk under the falls and there is room for many people (and photo ops!) **Warning though!!** Google told us we "arrived" but Google was not correct.. we had to drive further down the road and park in the school, and you have to walk about 1.8 km ish down a little gravel path/road to get to the falls. There are some helpful signs once you actually find the school tho!

Stunning!! Which was a little bit vague to me, was the signs! I wasn’t sure how i could fo further to other spots to see the waterfall from other points. The rout to the waterfall is legit amazing! There are cute decorations on the way like trolls’ cloths. I was lucky that the weather was nice as well and i could see some fjord’s views which were breathtaking

We were a bit unlucky in a way that when we visited the waterfall there wasn't enough water there to wow me. Seen pictures on Google where people have experienced much heavier waterfall. I guess u have to research a little before going so u could get the best experience. By the way it's just a short walk from the barnehage, where u park the car. When u are at the waterfall then u can cross at Ur own risk but it isn't dangerous or anything.

Mountain peak
Klovane offers a unique hiking experience with stunning views from the top, providing a refreshing change from the classic fjord scenery. The relatively short 3 km trail involves a challenging ascent of 900 meters, making it steep but manageable with short breaks. Hikers are advised to wear sturdy shoes due to the muddy and wet terrain. Despite the demanding climb, the breathtaking vistas make it all worthwhile. It's recommended not to attempt the hike after rain as it could be slippery.
A beautiful but very challenging trek. The first two kilometers are only steep ascent. Do not underestimate your footwear! You can park at the beginning of the trek for 50 NOK, but we parked and stayed overnight at the great Oldevatn campsite - highly recommended.

The path is steep and slippery and muddy even on nice days, which is why proper hiking boots are essential. No problem for experienced hikers, but perhaps a bit of a challenge for inexperienced hikers, but is rewarded with a breathtaking view! (Original) Absoluter Geheimtipp, schönste Wanderung in Fjordnorwegen bisher! Wir, mitte 20 und fit, haben für den Aufstieg zum Gipfel 2 h und für den Abstieg 1,5 h gebraucht. However, you have to climb 900 meters in altitude over a relatively short distance (3 km on the way there), which of course makes it very steep. If you take time for short breaks, it's still doable. Be careful, wear good shoes, the ground was very muddy and wet! The muddiest hike of our three week vacation! The valley is also very beautiful! Elevated
Old Strynefjell Mountain Road, also known as Gamle Strynfjellsvegen, is a historic route that traverses challenging mountain terrain and has become a popular tourist attraction. While the paved road surface may have some bumps and holes, it offers a beautiful journey with stunning alpine panoramas contrasting the nearby fjords. The road is accessible to regular cars and provides breathtaking views of Skala and Oppstryn.
It's one of the great places to see amazing views. I went there on 08/07/23 by a rent car.

Spectacular view of the mountain and lakes and high snow wall just after the winter. Its an special experience. You may have to drive 30 km per hour, no asfalt on the road, just soil or pebbles.
Syed K — Google review
What an incredible experience. Driving over this mountain range was such an adventure of scenery and Climate change. From spectacular views, waterfalls, wildlife, glaciers, lakes, mountains, historic places one after another, trails..... my goodness, the list goes on and on. Just incredible.

Man, I read the reviews and it felt like i was going to drive through hell with my 8 meters long campervan because of the narrow road. The reality is that it is definitely feasible and worth. Of course you need to frequently stop in the wider areas to let other pass, but hey if you are here you are not in a rush for sure. Make some photos while you wait. Go for it!

The most beautiful autumn scenery I’ve ever seen. We drove here end of September (I assume as soon as the first snow fall starts the road isn’t drivable anymore). Honestly no words to describe this beautiful place on earth! Please keep it that way! Unfortunately we picked up some cigarette buds laying on the floor…

Beautiful raw nature Breathtaking Sceneries, waterfalls Cows & sheep roaming around freely Best time to visit is july and aug Best camping spots.

A must do! This road gave us some of the best views of our entire trip! It's essentially a dirt road winding through a valley along a river with stunning views. It is a dirt road and slower going, so allot about an hour for it, but the road is in good condition and we managed just fine in a two wheel drive sedan during the fall time.
Cole M — Google review
Worth seeing especially after summer season when you can enjoy the beautiful Autumn colors.

This is a fantastic route to reach Stryn. On top of the mountain you can see a wild nature, the road is a bit narrow and old so you can't drive more than 10kmph. Mobile signals drop there so don't drive in the late evening or at night.

(Translated by Google) We took this route to Stryn because the guidebook recommended it as being very scenic. And they didn't overpromise. What awaited us here was truly magical: Waterfalls, turquoise water, all shades of green and gray, and majestic mountains. The route itself is a bit adventurous at times, but since we were traveling by car, the route was manageable. It was an absolute highlight of our trip. Absolutes Highlight unserer Reise.

We had the Vegansnadder and the vegetarian Lasagne and it was really good! That's our place in Styr now. We also love the people there, so kind and friendly. If you are vegan or vegetarian, this is the only restaurant in Styr where you should go. They have 5 vegan plus 3 vegetarian options.
Celine-M C — Google review
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the service is excellent. The problem is you can’t charge those prices for very low-quality food (bagged salad, frozen fries) in a place where you can constantly hear the microwave. Not to mention beers at £10. If the prices were lower, it would make perfect sense — but at these prices, no.
Diego S — Google review
We have ordered Deluxe pizza with extra onion and extra pickles for takeaway… And I don’t know if it’s funny for the workers to not respect the clients and playing with their food, but we got some kind of carrots and marinated cabbage on our pizza… we got *extra onion, but *extra pickles all different kinds, sizes and it’s like 3 on all pizza. And we got some kind of jalapeño that wasn’t supposed to be on pizza… Oh and we have paid too much, but later at least the waiter said sorry and gave the difference, but I don’t even know if the difference was right..… Sad…
