Vitré Castle is a dramatic medieval fortress with restored towers showcasing relics, history exhibits, and art. It is considered one of the most stunning fortresses in Europe, featuring a beautiful courtyard and serving as home to a museum. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Middle Ages while exploring the castle's interior, which includes steep stone steps and offers great views of the picturesque town from its battlements. The self-guided tour leads through various rooms, providing an enriching experience for history enthusiasts.
The best Chateaux to date that I have visited on this trip to Brittany, France. This is also the best medieval town I have ever seen, even beating the UK one's. So, worth the visit, fully recommended.

Beautiful castle in Vitré.... Entrance is 7 euro. Worth it... Do not forget to visit the old centre of Vitré after this visit.

Very nice medieval castle and town to visit. Explanation in English on the signs. Tours in French possible.
Tim N — Google review
Lovely way to spend a good hour or two. Kids enjoyed exploring all the rooms.
Nic S — Google review
Well worth the entry fee, spent quite a few hours on our visit. Highly recommended lots of history and culture.
Keith R — Google review
Although there were some predecessors, construction of the castle with its triangular shape started in the first half of the 13th century by Baron André III. In the following centuries, it was enlarged and beautified but largely abandoned in the 17th century.
Seimen B — Google review
Stunning fairytale castle worth making a special detour to see.
Phil M — Google review
For €6 entry and free for kids, you can't go wrong! Partly closed due to renovations, you can still access 75% of the castle. Well maintained and with very good period furniture and paintings, you'll really get a good sense of how the residents lived during medieval times.

This stunning Roman Catholic church, constructed in the 15th century, showcases a captivating blend of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles. Its intricately designed facade and elegant spire are complemented by remarkable stained-glass windows that add to its allure. Notably, it features an exceptionally rare outside pulpit, making it stand out among other historical sites.

Great place to relax. There's a beautiful lake with ducks and gulls, a bandstand, two play areas for kids, an area with a couple of picnic tables, a big bird house and a couple more things. There are toilets (though there's no sign about it). They're near the main entrance.
Anna B — Google review
This is a great park for the size of the city. Playgrounds for ages 2+ lots of ducks and other birds. Plenty of grass for a picnic in the sun and the shade. We took our wedding pictures here as well. It’s about 1km around the outter path in the park so it’s perfect for runners. There are always lots of people walking around in the park so I usually feel very safe.
Courtney B — Google review
Really very pleasant park with plenty of seats, a lovely pond and very well kept. Next to a school, so gets quite busy around 1230, but plenty of space regardless. One of the nicest public gardens we've been to in the region.

(Translated by Google) Avoid! A terrible experience with the staff at Next Adventure in Vitré, where we had planned to celebrate our son's birthday. Zero flexibility and no commercial sense. The customer is completely disregarded. To avoid losing our 50% deposit, even though we'd been trying unsuccessfully to reschedule the session for a week, we chose to honor the reservation, but once we arrived, we had to pay for all 8 reservations, even though there were only 4 of us left! In the end, they won the day because we refused to pay the balance, so no laser tag for us. They pocketed the deposit for 4 tickets and were able to resell the 8 reservations. A great deal for them. However, for us, we lost €64, and my son didn't get to celebrate his birthday at the laser tag. We'll never go there again. Furthermore, after reading the T&Cs, he writes: "if fewer USERS show up to participate in the game SESSION than initially planned when booking, the BUYER and/or USERS cannot claim a refund of the price difference, a credit note corresponding to said price difference will be issued, this credit note will be valid for 6 months after the date of the initial booking." However, no credit note was offered to us. I inform you to file a report with the fraud prevention service. (Original) A fuir!

US$6.00 pp. (students pay US$4.00 pp.) The Château des Rochers-Sévigné is a former Breton residence of Madame de Sévigné, a 15th-century Gothic mansion located near Vitré, in Ille-et-Vilaine. After partial inscriptions in 1942 and 1944, the château was classified as a historic monument on March 20, 1995. The small château was built on a rocky hill – from which it takes its name – by the ancestors of Henri de Sévigné, a Breton nobleman who married Marie de Rabutin-Chantal in 1644. The residence is built on an L-shaped plan and has two towers. There is also an octagonal chapel, built by Madame de Sévigné in 1671 for her uncle, the Abbé de Coulanges, known as Bien-Bon, stables and outbuildings added in the 18th century. At the back of the garden, a curved wall creates an echo when standing on a slab. Madame de Sévigné used it to read to her daughter. The French-style garden was created in 1689 and restored in 1982. The entire property is surrounded by a wooded park whose alleys were all named after Madame de Sévigné, who stayed at the château des Rochers several times after her husband's death. It was here that she wrote many of her famous letters to her daughter, Françoise de Sévigné, Countess of Grignan. The chapel and part of the manor house, which houses family portraits and some objects belonging to the Marquise, can be visited. A golf course, a restaurant and reception rooms have been established on the property.

A great experience! The owners are super nice and efficient, and the food was very good and well priced (some €19 for a three course meal). I had the « raw salmon » (which was rather smoked salmon but never mind), the lamb and the crème brûlée. All of it was very good and despite us being an 8 persons party, we didn’t wait much (and it was full!). Greatly recommend the place!
PF R — Google review
Excellently prepared traditional French dishes and reasonably priced for the quality and attention to detail. We had the Le Menu (flacky pastry with goat cheese and nuts and terrine with fig paste as appetizers and fish with lemony hollandaise sause and slow cooked lamb as the main dishes). Really good chocolate fondant in white sause and strawberry mouse in a fort of lady fingers for dessert. Our grand creme café's came with carmel-chocolate mouses and small meringues. The proprietors are very friendly and courtious. They speak French, so best be prepared to know your French food names in advance or go with whatever they suggest, it is going be tasty no matter what. Outdoor seating is available with a view of the church across the street. The inside is gorgeous. The place filled up quickly on Sunday in June, so making reservations ahead of time is highly recommended.

Despite many tables being open I was told there was no availability (for 1 person). That's fine I responded. How long are you full for? "The entire night" I was told. This was 45 minutes after they opened on a Wednesday. I've been going to creperies (with higher ratings in other larger touristic towns) for some time now and have never been refused service. The rudeness of the hostess can only be explained by xenophobia and dislike of foreigners. I've only experienced such hate towards foreigners in one other place in France in over a month of traveling here. Don't support establishments that employee such French. It isn't the norm. Avoid this place and go give your money to all the other very kind French throughout Vitre.
Alexander M — Google review
We wanted to visit a creperie, but at the entrance, we were met by a rude waiter. He rudely asked us what nationality we were and harshly told us that there were no tables available for us today. This spoiled our impression of France, because any nationalist attitude towards Ukrainians today is very hurtful.

L'Artisan, a renowned eatery in Vitre, stands out for its exceptional cuisine and welcoming staff. While the menu leans towards meat dishes, I appreciate the variety of options available. It's possible to enjoy a satisfying meal by simply choosing an appetizer and dessert. Additionally, L'Artisan boasts a spacious patio suitable for summer dining and can accommodate larger groups with prior reservation. The prices are reasonable considering the location and type of establishment.

Another great restaurant in Vitré. The staff is friendly and the food is super good. I am not a big meat eater and this restaurants plates tend to be heavy on the meat. Even so, I still really enjoy eating here. Sometimes I even just take the Entrée and the dessert! They have a great Patio for the summer and can host larger groups if reserved ahead of time. The price is average for the area and type of restaurant.

Located in the charming town of Vitre, Restaurant La Place comes highly recommended for its delightful ambiance and delicious cuisine. Situated in a picturesque square with views of the castle, this establishment offers a truly magnificent setting. The food served here is equally impressive, with an emphasis on quality and flavor. Being English and with very little French between us, we were recommended to go to this restaurant in Vitre for a meal. We arrived just before midday and were shown to an outside table. Set in the Square looking over to the castle was a fantastic setting and the food we were served was equally as fantastic and very tasty. We all 3 chose steak which came with garlic potatoes and salad. With a bottle of wine, several litres of Kronenburg and cola light for me as the driver with creme brulee for a sweet our bill of €112 represented excellent value. We will visit again.
Dave N — Google review

The food was exceptional quality and value for money. The hotel location is amazing as it over looks a castle! The owners/staff were very welcoming and attentive. Amazing spot for delicious locally sourced food and wines. I would highly recommend, staff is delightful and the place itself warm and welcoming. You'll want to buy every bit of food they have on offer.

A great place to have a glass of wine with your friends. I feel like the snacks can be a bit overpriced for what they are and they aren't amazing but its definitely one of my preferred places for a quick drink in Vitré

(Translated by Google) I recommend this place where you can relax in complete peace of mind to have a drink or snack on a plancha. The welcome is warm, the decoration is very nice and above all you can taste craft beers....a real pleasure for the palate....and above all...it's out of the ordinary.

(Translated by Google) To discover! Great place with very good boards to share. The wine is not bad and goes well with cold meats and cheese. Besides, you can buy the latter on the way out! I recommend (Original) A découvrir !

(Translated by Google) We sit on the terrace, warning before our arrival, no one comes to give us a card or take our order after 10 minutes. My wife goes to the counter to place the order, we ask her if it will be okay to carry everything, the waiter had not planned to serve us in fact. Cold meats to cut but no knife. We ask for it, the waitress forgets us. I go back to the counter to get it. I see as I pass the menu that there is a condiment planned with our board, we don't have it. I demand it. I ask if there are pickles, and I am told that there are, but that they don't always put them. I ask to have seen that they have some, I am told that they don't use them all the time, that they haven't used any. I understand, but if there is any, I would like to have some. This is not possible because they are in the kitchen, they are big and they have to be cut, so no pickles. Our table was not cleaned before serving us on top of that... No bread, but dry croutons, we are told that the bakers are on vacation...we are not tourists, we live 2 streets away and we manage to get bread without any problem... No professionalism, it's a shame.

French restaurant
Le Vieux Vitré is a charming restaurant with a small terrace and indoor dining space, offering good value food and exceptional service. Despite some comments about slow service, the relaxed pace of lunch in France allows for enjoying the company of others and the atmosphere. The menu offers a reasonable selection of vegetarian options. Visitors have had pleasant experiences, praising the excellent menu and service even during busy times like night carnival.
I could not recommend this place and their food anymore! The owner was the sweetest as well as all of her staff. The food was prepared carefully and skillfully and with love. The taste and presentation were immaculate! They were so willing to seat and serve six of us so close to closing & even offered us dessert still. Hands down the BEST beef tartare I have had in years & during our entire trip to France.

Was honestly the best food in France, and definately one of the best things my husband and I have ever eaten. If you are visiting Vitre I highly reccomend popping here for lunch or dinner. Thank you to everyone there. 10/10.

Wonderful food, friendly and helpful staff. Our French is nonexistent- the staff was accommodating and attentive. We had the Escalope Savoyarde and grilled steak - both Exceptional. Wish I was able to save room for dessert- it looked fantastic.

Amazing restaurant owned by a cute sweet French couple who are always there - the lady is so sweet and he husband cooks! The food was really great, I had beef tartare, the steak was to die for, I also loved the panna cota. The place is located on a cute old street and it’s absolutely beautiful.

A wonderful place and a must visit if you find yourself in Vitré. Food and service were spectacular. English was very sparse but we got through our lack of French.
Keith K — Google review
This place is adorable. I met the owner which just took over two months ago and you can tell they take the work very seriously. This was one of very few restaurants open in the middle of the day when many others are closed in between the lunch and dinner times. The food was delicious. I had the steak and my wife had the beef tartar. Also, the dessert was delicious. Service was very quick and friendly.

A great little find for lunch with a small terrace on the square and indoor dining space. Good value food and the service and server were exceptional. Others have commented on slow service, but this is the pace of lunch in France, unhurried and giving you time to enjoy the company of others and the atmosphere. Will consider this restaurant again in the future and had a reasonable selection of vegetarian options.

Has to be one of the best Crepes l have eaten in 40 years of visiting France. No frills Crepes restaurant, very clean, colourful decor and good menu selection. Highly recommended when visiting the medieval Quarter of Vitre.

We barely sat down on the terrace around 13:15 when the waiter came barging out, waving their hands, saying "We're finished, we're closing!", despite the posted closing time of 14:00. We thought we misunderstood, so we tried "can we order a cappuccino?", wanting to start with a drink and order a bite to eat as well. But no, they repeated: "It's a restaurant, not a bar and we're closing". That felt quite rude. Never were we asked whether we wanted something to eat.
