Although there were some predecessors, construction of the castle with its triangular shape started in the first half of the 13th century by Baron André III. In the following centuries, it was enlarged and beautified but largely abandoned in the 17th century.

Great place to relax. There's a beautiful lake with ducks and gulls, a bandstand, two play areas for kids, an area with a couple of picnic tables, a big bird house and a couple more things. There are toilets (though there's no sign about it). They're near the main entrance.

This is a great park for the size of the city. Playgrounds for ages 2+ lots of ducks and other birds. Plenty of grass for a picnic in the sun and the shade. We took our wedding pictures here as well. It’s about 1km around the outter path in the park so it’s perfect for runners. There are always lots of people walking around in the park so I usually feel very safe.

Really very pleasant park with plenty of seats, a lovely pond and very well kept. Next to a school, so gets quite busy around 1230, but plenty of space regardless. One of the nicest public gardens we've been to in the region.

Being English and with very little French between us, we were recommended to go to this restaurant in Vitre for a meal. We arrived just before midday and were shown to an outside table. Set in the Square looking over to the castle was a fantastic setting and the food we were served was equally as fantastic and very tasty. We all 3 chose steak which came with garlic potatoes and salad. With a bottle of wine, several litres of Kronenburg and cola light for me as the driver with creme brulee for a sweet our bill of €112 represented excellent value. We will visit again.

Amazing restaurant owned by a cute sweet French couple who are always there - the lady is so sweet and he husband cooks! The food was really great, I had beef tartare, the steak was to die for, I also loved the panna cota. The place is located on a cute old street and it’s absolutely beautiful.

This place is adorable. I met the owner which just took over two months ago and you can tell they take the work very seriously. This was one of very few restaurants open in the middle of the day when many others are closed in between the lunch and dinner times. The food was delicious. I had the steak and my wife had the beef tartar. Also, the dessert was delicious. Service was very quick and friendly.

A great little find for lunch with a small terrace on the square and indoor dining space. Good value food and the service and server were exceptional. Others have commented on slow service, but this is the pace of lunch in France, unhurried and giving you time to enjoy the company of others and the atmosphere. Will consider this restaurant again in the future and had a reasonable selection of vegetarian options.
