Weinheim in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Weinheim, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Weinheim is a picturesque town on the German Wine Route, known for its medieval old town, market square, and half-timbered houses. It’s nicknamed the “Two-Castle City” for the hilltop ruins of Windeck Castle and the 20th-century Wachenburg, both offering wide views over the Rhine plain. Visitors can stroll through the renowned Hermannshof show garden and the exotic tree park (Exotenwald), which feature diverse plant collections in a compact area. Its location on the edge of the Odenwald forest makes Weinheim a good base for hikes and day trips in the region.
With favorites like Diebsloch, Schau- und Sichtungsgarten Hermannshof, and Schlosspark Weinheim, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like bratar Burger Grill Bar | Weinheim and La Cantina so you can get the best taste of Weinheim while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Miramar is a popular thermal spa and family attraction offering a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. The facility includes saunas, laser shows, waterslides, and swimming pools. Visitors can enjoy the clean and well-maintained facilities with ample parking space. Families can have a fun day out with kids enjoying the waterslides and various pool activities. The place offers something for everyone, from quiet rooms to relax in to exciting water slides that are loved by children.
When we started from our home 2 hours away, we kept hoping our day would be worth the drive. But Miramar exceeded all our expectations in ways that we hadn't imagined. Although the place was super crowded on a Saturday (we couldn't find parking), it was clean, well-managed, and SO much fun. There are sooo many amazing options for kids (and adults alike). From the numerous slides and the wave pools to the outdoor thermal pool, the music/bar pool, kids pool. Even the food was delicious with several vegetarian/vegan/dessert/drink options. The highlight surely was the laser show at 7pm, the kids had a blast. Cannot recommend this place enough! We can't wait to go back!

Not recommend this place anymore! This was our 4th visit, 1st from the reopening, but sure it was the last one!!! Upon entry, our bag was checked and it turned out that we were not allowed to bring in glas bottled drinks, which is understandable for security reasons. Then after entry, they reminded us that next time we could not bring in a normal-sized freezer box. Okay. Everyone inside with huge freezer boxes, but no problem. 🤷🏼‍♀️ then we were faced with the fact that no outdoor pool was working. You can only sunbathe outside. or if you want to enter the sauna section, which is in the nudist section. No, thank you. There is hardly any air inside, the heat is unbearable. But the entrance price is still 30€ / person. shortly after we got there we wanted to ask for our money back and leave the place. The answer was that they informed us on their website which pools were not working, sorry but I don't check the website, I've been there before and I knew the place was good, we loved it. so far... they offered that if we wanted to go we could get the money back in the form of a voucher. but what should I do with it if there won't be an outdoor pool this year? and this was definitely our last visit! and I didn't even mention the wounds we got on the slides, thank you.
Ana R — Google review
Never again. I've been here several times but this was terrible. They still charged full price for half the facility working. The adult sauna area was dirty, unhygienic and over crowded. It should not be allowed for visitors leaving towels to block recliners in the quiet zones or sleeping rooms and leave for hours expecting them to be saved not allowing someone else to use them. And too many children and teens unsupervised in the adult area. This used to be a nice relaxing spa but will never return. If you want an adult area and nice experience I suggest karlsruhe.
Greg L — Google review
Nice place for a day of fun with the kids. Free entry on your birthday. Enough parking (free) space. Could be a little cleaner. Slides are great - kids love it. Can be crowdy at times and you need to cue for the popular slides. One pool has waves every hour - what a fun. Sana area is awesome and it looks like kids are allowed (great for some, disturbing for others). Quiet rooms available.
Guido O — Google review
The most amazing wellness nearest Mannheim 😌
Somayeh F — Google review
We were there on a very hot day so the place was packed. We only were on the "fun area" with no access to the salt baths or sauna. The sitting area was so full people were laying on the floor in the halls. The staff was friendly on the cash register but inside there was almost no personal for upkeep. Or so it seemed. The price for 4 hours of swim was too high in my opinion and they should lower the limit of visitors a day it was really too busy to enjoy.
Sweet P — Google review
I love Miramar. The wave pool was fantastic!! There is a water slide that ends in the wave pool. It was still busy though, especially the Splash water slide, that one took 15 minutes to ride. My favorite one had to be the Typhoon water slide, and the Race water slide. There is a swimm-up bar! Miramar had a cafeteria with some yummy food. Definately try Miramar on a not busy day!!
David N — Google review
This was a spontaneous trip during my stay and it was unforgettable. My local guide handled all the talking since my German is rusty, but the service was very nice. I liked the security of the lockers, everything was clean, and the food was good-especially the fries! The slides are safe for those of us who can’t swim since the water is shallow. The main pool with the mushroom has a setting with waves that I wouldn’t recommend for those without swimming legs. There’s activities for everyone and it’s very safe. I’d visit again. *Bonus*: this was my first time going to a sauna and it was better than I expected. No one is being creepy, there’s plenty of rooms, and you don’t have to be nude in that section (except the sauna room).

The park is a perfect place for a leisurely stroll with its rolling hills and exotic birds. It hosts various events throughout the year and is open to the public.
Perfect place for family. It's free of cost. It's having lot of place for children to play. It also has small bird place where you can see some chirping birds like parrot. It's also connected to other places like rathaus. One must visit once. It also has good parking space. Also, there is lot of space for children to play.

Beautiful park with a small pond. Perfect place for walks, picnics, family outing and birdwatching. A great spot for kids as it has plenty of space to run around.
Yuzena K — Google review
An amazing park in the middle of Weinheim city center. This place is picture perfect and maintained amazingly well. The park is large and spacious and very good for kids to walk and play around. You can do a nice weekend picnic sitting on the lawn and let your kids walk and run around on a nice sunny day. There is a small hill going up and getting down can also be very good for a short run around the park for beginners. Definitely a place to visit if you are in Weinheim.
Aravind R — Google review
This is a nice place to take a leisurely stroll through the park, picking on the rolling hills, looking at the exotic birds, or a nice backdrop to enjoy your ice cream from around the corner. There are many events hosted here throughout the year, but generally it is open to the public park. The palace connected to the park with many other beautiful monuments and statues make this an excellent place to visit. Either you are passing through or a local, you will definitely want to spend some time here to enjoy it

Wachenburg

Castle
Hiking area
Wachenburg is a historic castle with a rich heritage, featuring a courtyard restaurant and a meeting hall. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Rhine Valley. This modern castle, constructed in the early 1900s, has been well-preserved and serves both ceremonial and organizational purposes. While it may not be widely known for tourism, it is an excellent location for leisurely walks and provides convenient parking facilities.
Steep walk through the forest. You can skip the workout for that day 😀
Constantin M — Google review
This is a modern castle (built in the early 1900s), of course still well preserved, which houses a restaurant and seems to serve more ceremonial/organizational purpose than tourist ones. I only discovered it when I brought my kids to do the Gruffalo path (which is the only reason I even found out about Windeck castle, as the path leads up to it), but couldn't find opening hours on their website. I decided to come and see if we could explore the castle; we parked at the Wanderparkplatz just prior to entering the castle grounds and walked up the paved path, through the wooden gate that was open, and under the stone arch lladen with crests. There happened to be a large party there that night for a business' employees, which looked like a grand old time, and the setting was wonderful for it - once you walk through the arch, the indoor restaurant entrance is immediately on the right, but then you see the terrace in the courtyard, which has a great view and has wonderful ambiance, many tables, even couches to lounge on. The castle surrounds you, with its beautiful windows and stone walls and a single tower (that I saw). I couldn't find anywhere to enter the castle itself that was open to the public, and there were no obviously castle staff members to ask, so we simply enjoyed the view for a few minutes and went on our way. The restaurant menu looked fantastic, if a little too fancy and expensive for me to stop there with just myself and three young kids 5 and under, but I'd guess it'd make for a great date night or girls night out. This, topped with ample close parking, makes for a wonderful evening!

Great location in the heart of Weinheim. I would recommend getting your burger with smash burger patties. The brioche bun was only okay - I would recommend the classic bun. Overall, lovely lunch spot right by the church. A perfect place to sit and watch people go by!

Food is very salt, and sea food does not appear fresh. Cannot say service is friendly as no smile on the face. We came in July it is nice to seat outside but the seafood attracts tons of fly which is very annoying. Not recommended

Stay away from this strange restaurant. On the 1st of January I booked a table in this restaurant because they have oysters in the menu. We spent 1 hour driving to the restaurant with a child and a small dog. When we arrived, they offered us a “New Year menu” that you can see in the attachment - a crumpled piece of paper with a proud statement that it costs 50€. The main menu didn’t work that day and of course nobody was going to notify about that when I booked a table. The staff was a bit nervous about the fact that we only wanted to order oysters with wine without their super-special offer of the day. But the next news was that they don’t have oysters anymore. “Sorry” - that was only what they said when I tried to clarify how they confirmed the booking two hours ago when I asked about oysters and wine. We had to leave the restaurant and just wasted 2 hours. Nothing was offered for us to resolve the situation in a good manner, but this shouldn’t be a surprise if you look at their special New Year menu and how it looks like.
Ilya K — Google review
Visited several times and All was great until today. I came with friend to drink coffee and restaurant was empty. As always coffee was amazing, but after we paid the waiter said - tomorrow if u want drink just coffee go to another place. Very unprofessional. Especially if u don’t have guests and we not sit in a table where someone else can sit and eat.

Fantastic lunch experience. Good amount of comfortable outdoor seating that is well-shaded and spaced out. Great selection of in-season food and dishes. Maultaschen was delicious and very good desserts! Service was nice and helpful. This places makes everything fresh and it takes some time for the food to come out. Not unreasonable but don’t expect a quick bite here. It is worth the wait. Interior was cute and their toilets are clean. I would definitely come back here again!

La Bodega Espanola is a delightful tapas restaurant that offers an authentic taste of Spain right in the heart of Weinheim. Diners can expect generous portions and a menu filled with flavorful dishes, although those seeking vegetarian or vegan options may find the selection limited to bread, pimentos, and tortillas.
