My sister and I stopped in to have a quintessential French breakfast before starting out on the Camino de Santiago. Without a plan, we stumbled into this café and it has been a sheer delight. For eight euro each, we got baguette, croissant Café latte. Our plates were adorned with butter, and apricot marmalade jam, . The host was attentive, thorough, and even with limited English confirmed he understood our order perfectly. If you are a pilgrim and don’t know about this place, put it on your Saint Jean must do list.

Our veggie burger was, in reality, just a vegetable-filled bun—far removed from what one would expect a ‘veggie burger’ to be. The risotto, too, was excessively oily and nearly inedible. Adding to this was the pervasive cigarette smoke from nearby diners, which further soured our experience. The redeeming factor was the amber beer, which was genuinely enjoyable. While the prices were on the higher end of average, the quality of the food didn’t match up, making it feel like poor value overall. This was a perfect place to stay at to start the camino - the breakfast and communal dinner were delicious and I’m very grateful for the help I got finding accommodation when I realised Roncesvalles was booked out. Very good location as well - close to the Pilgrim’s Office

Thats the view of me taking my breakfast, beautiful albergue, and super clean. English is the main language spoken, breakfast included in the price (32 eur as of 2025 july). The owner is very kind and attentive and we had a beautiful meditation in the morning which marked my journey to St Camino. Recommended!

If you’re looking for a great lunch spot for your last meal in France before the Camino, this may be it. A first course of local dried salami, followed by a real, hand made croque monsieur is something special. The tarte tatin was impressive (nice crust and caramel, not too sweet).

Wonderful vegan option here. I ordered a salad and it was a large portion of fresh ingredients including asparagus and a large artichoke heart. I ordered an off-menu side of bread to share. It was all filling and tasty.

Lovely place for some wine and lunch. Would definitely eat here again. The food was great, as was the staff.

Entered this cute looking restaurant with my female companion. She wanted to order the smaller child’s portion meal as she wasn’t very hungry. The waitress said it was only for children, so she then asked for a small salad. The waitress then left the table to go to the back, and the manager came out and made a scene telling us loudly to leave as we were not going to eat, as he is running a restaurant. Very rude and unnecessary as we both planned to have multiple glasses of wine, and I planned to have an appetizer, entree and dessert with coffee, but I literally was never asked for my order. They should call this place The Mad Hatter.

So glad we found this hidden gem - owner was sure to move us to the a great table when we were at first sat at just an ok one. The food was delicious, we had squid and a big salad. Would go back!
