The brasserie features a lovely terrace overlooking the Nive river where locals and visitors of all ages come together to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
Waouw, I didn’t expect to eat so well in a Brasserie like restaurant 💕 the pulp as starter was amazing, the beef was cooked perfectly and very good quality ! The desert was perfect and the staff very friendly 💯 They refused 100 people coming in without booking… so if you are not lucky like me you better book 😂

Buzzy atmosphere. Good range of local wines. I didn’t like my sausages as too grisly and the piperade was tasteless. But the beef axoa was excellent. Good service from the young staff.
Malcolm G — Google review
Nice bar and restaurant, had a couple of beers (0.5ltr @ €8 each) and dinner, the sausage had a huge piece of gristle though.

Cousin place overall the main horse was pretty good and their orange drink is exceptional. Service was all right. They seem to be busy but that’s OK because it was worth it in the end was a good food. Our dessert was pretty good as well.

Sat at table 13 @ 13.55 today Beautiful view and at first a friendly welcome Maryline was our waitress Ordered the Cote de beouf rare from the menu. It came out an hour later very well done. We sent it back and the next one was tough chewy and still / medium well at best. Poorly cooked steak is one thing but aggressive rude and nasty service is another I should point out the really bad service was from only this one waitress. Everyone else was polite and efficient.
Gar M — Google review
We came here following google maps' advices. The service is good, staff very friendly and location is right beside the road and facing the river. From our point of view, a bit priceay. We ordered two main dish, couple of beers, one dessert and two coffees, 52€. Quality of the food is not at the price they charge, at same time, the fish wasnt really well cook and meat was chewy.
Rutas A — Google review
Great value ,lovely food, definitely worth a visit ,price included 2 large beers, and a desert,33euros each

I had been there around 5 o'clock. So I couldn't enjoy the dishes. Because they were available after 7 pm. But local beer was good for me as a foreigner. Cool and delicious. And employees were accomodating. I would like to recommend to try Equzki ipa beer 🍺

Le Navarre is a charming restaurant located at the gates of the old town, offering traditional cuisine made with local products. The café and brasserie are open all day, serving daily specials and combined plates in the restaurant or on the terrace during summer. It's a great spot to enjoy an evening Apero while sipping on sangria, beer, or soft drinks. The staff is hardworking and friendly, creating a pleasant atmosphere for solo travelers and Camino pilgrims alike.

Excellent place and quite affordable, hard working staff but I think I made the wrong choice of food. Some of the entrecote was olpretty okay but some part where unetable. The poulet basque looked and smelled amazing, I should have gone for that!!

Thanks to the wonderful lady, who managed to give a table to a solo traveller after waiting for 1 h! I don't understand why the restaurants don't open a large table for all solo travellers who want to join - cannot be so complicated!

Le Chemin vers l'Etoile

Lodge
"Le Chemin vers l'Etoile" is a charming hostel located in a 16th-century cottage, offering simple dorms and private rooms. The welcoming host, Eric, shares his passion for the Camino and provides valuable tips for pilgrims embarking on their journey. The hostel boasts a clean environment and offers a variety of breakfast options to prepare guests for the day ahead. Cyclists will appreciate the secure bike storage facilities in the backyard.
It's really near to the pilgrims office and only a couple of minutes away from the train station, perfect start for the camino. The host was super friendly and made me feel very welcomed. The breakfast was really great with many options, the best one I had at the camino until now. I surely would stay there again!
Jana — Google review
Great location, and lovely man at reception. He was so helpful! Cons: The bed was so uncomfortable, the stairs dangerous, just two bathrooms for who knows how many rooms... The AC unit in the room would go off so often at night and it was so noisy.
Serena C — Google review
Great location, friendly staff and very nice breakfast. But unfortunately I was very disappointed about the room I was given. It was not anything similar to what is shown in their listings. My room was accessed through the back of the property where there were four very tiny rooms with no windows and only a curtain as the door. If I had gotten the nicer room in the main building I would have for sure given this place a high rating.
Saba S — Google review
The proprietor was exceptionally kind and helpful. This is an Alburgue on the Camino, so the timed showers and bunk beds are standard. A nice carb-heavy breakfast was available as well. Would definitely start here again. Buen Camino!
A B — Google review
Great location! Short beds. If you are taller than 180cm you probably gonna struggle. Rooms are very loud, some don't have a window and it smells accordingly. For what you get a ridiculous price.
Simitha — Google review
Wonderful owner, and he always has good advice for first time pilgrims. The building is a true hostel/albergue: simple, rustic, and welcoming.
Erin H — Google review
The host is very nice and welcoming. The rooms however are tiny. Not enough place to sort out your stuff. Thankfully during my stay the temperature was ideal but I can’t imagine sleeping there in hot summer or cold winter. Over 30euros for the night and breakfast does feel like a stretch especially since there isn’t a lot to choose from in terms of food and you have to prepare everything yourself. Overall not bad, but could be better.
Katarzyna K — Google review
+20€/night with no access to heating, sheets or breakfast. +3€ for each blanket. +3€ for each towel. Had to rent two blankets, one to act as a bottom sheet, one to act as a blanket, because the protection given to not directly contact the mattress was a 1mm polypropylene sheet. I have been in bed&breakfasts in London with a much better service for much less. Would not come here again.

(Translated by Google) In search of the best Basque cake (for my tastes), I had to try this institution. The individual Basque cakes are reasonably priced at 2.50, and even though they're smaller than what I've seen elsewhere, they're perfect with a coffee at the end of the meal. I really enjoyed the shortcrust pastry, but the pastry cream filling left me a little underwhelmed; I would have liked more flavor. The cherry filling was a lovely filling, with a nice texture and not too sweet, but I was also slightly disappointed by the taste; it wasn't very flavorful. But honestly, the shortcrust pastry was lovely! Gentil accueil ☺️

One of the original city gates and is one of the most easily recognizable landmarks of St. Jean Pied-de-Port. It was featured in the 2010 film The Way. It is right beside the Notre-Dame-du-Bout-du-Pont Church and you exit it when you start the Camino Frances.

Notre-Dame Gate at the end of the street that has everything you need for the camino de santiago. Boutique du Pelerin - where you can get equipment (don't forget to buy walking sticks - if you don't have them, they don't have to be expensive ones - for 20€ you'll be fine). in the street you also have the Officina del Pellegrino where you will register and get a pasport de pellegrino (to collect stamps along the way)...

However, a little disappointed with the organization of the departure (some clients designated at the last moment had to take their own car, to take the whole group, to reach the starting point of the course… via a very narrow sloping path…) and this was not announced… Finally, perhaps review the organization to avoid too much waiting during the course. My sister and I stopped in to have a quintessential French breakfast before starting out on the Camino de Santiago. Without a plan, we stumbled into this café and it has been a sheer delight. For eight euro each, we got baguette, croissant Café latte. Our plates were adorned with butter, and apricot marmalade jam, . The host was attentive, thorough, and even with limited English confirmed he understood our order perfectly. If you are a pilgrim and don’t know about this place, put it on your Saint Jean must do list.

As a meat pilgrim, this will be the last decent restaurant before you reach Pamplona! The pork knuckle is delicious! It is what I think of for the next three days. Thank you!BTW,Flies are a real hazard. It is recommended to place more fly lamps and light a small candle in the middle of each table. But,It is still worth five stars.

While I’m typically hesitant to write less-than-stellar reviews, I feel obligated to share my experience. First and foremost, I’d like to commend the staff, who were notably friendly and doing their best despite being stretched thin. That said, the culinary experience was unfortunately not up to par. Our veggie burger was, in reality, just a vegetable-filled bun—far removed from what one would expect a ‘veggie burger’ to be. The risotto, too, was excessively oily and nearly inedible. Adding to this was the pervasive cigarette smoke from nearby diners, which further soured our experience. The redeeming factor was the amber beer, which was genuinely enjoyable. While the prices were on the higher end of average, the quality of the food didn’t match up, making it feel like poor value overall. In closing, despite the earnest efforts of the staff and the decent beer, the food quality was highly disappointing. I would advise caution when considering dining here.
Alon D — Google review
Good definitely worth waiting for and I’m debating on going back again tomorrow. Salads were very flavorful, fresh and quite big. Pizzas also were delicious, and decently sized. House red wine was local. Service was superb. Very quick and friendly.

Thursday 28 august we went for dinner here. We were sitting outside at a 4 persons table, but a bit blunt waiter told us it could not and we had to move. There was a table for 2 number 54. We ordered a drink which came, and the waiter asked if we wanted to have a bottle of water, but we never got that. The food was medium and the French Fries were tasteless and fat and not crispy. The flan caramel, was of very low quality too cold and not tasty. The unfriendly staff told us to pay at the exit, but the man behind the register seemed not to interested in anything except the payment. My advice is avoid this place. There are much better places that you make feel welcome and better food an service.

I ordered a chicken pasta, tast just not bad. The server service was very good and kindly, but the owner lady was a little... I asked if there was a paper bag to pack my bread, she just told me to take it with my hands. LOL👍 I‘m not a beggar😢 And there are too many flies. Even shares food with me.

Nestled in the heart of the Basque Country, Restaurant Oillarburu is a charming eatery located near the church in the historic town of Saint Jean Pied de Port. This delightful spot offers traditional cuisine crafted from local ingredients, ensuring an authentic taste of the region. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy a leisurely meal.
We had a lovely meal at this restaurant, which is tucked away from the main street. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating available. We chose the menu option and tried the truitelles (trout), jambon serrano, axoa de veau, and chiperons. All of them were delicious, especially the trout. The only downside was the environment, as there were unfortunately a lot of houseflies, and we even found a fly in our water. That said, I’d still recommend this spot for an authentic meal.

Paris is Paris. But when you venture out into the country you receive classic cuisine that has not charged since I was here in the 70’s (sooo old). And that is a good thing. Crispy small trout (Troutelles), thinly sliced, tender and lean lamb shoulder (epaules d’agneau) and a classic gateau Basque. Try the local wine and shame on you if you don’t try the local digestif. Aux pied de la France A classic meal: fish and lamb Countryside cuisine

Arriving in Pier du Port on the first day of my Camino de Santiago journey, I found myself in need of a hearty meal to replenish my energy. Amidst a plethora of dining options, Relais de la Nive, charmingly situated right on the river, caught my attention. Its inviting ambiance and the promise of a special pilgrim menu made it an easy choice. The concept of a pilgrim menu, common along the Camino, is designed to offer a complete and affordable meal to travelers. Relais de la Nive excels at this, providing a satisfying meal that included a juicy burger, crispy fries, and a fresh salad. This balanced offering was not only filling but also came at a flat cost, which included a choice of beer or wine, adding to the value and convenience for a weary traveler like myself. The setting of the restaurant added to the overall enjoyable experience. Dining by the river, with the gentle sounds of water flowing and a view of the picturesque surroundings, was both relaxing and rejuvenating. The staff at Relais de la Nive were friendly and accommodating, understanding the needs of pilgrims and tourists alike, which made the meal even more pleasant. Overall, Relais de la Nive provided a perfect stop on my Camino journey. It delivered on both comfort and taste, making it a recommended spot for anyone passing through Pier du Port. Whether you're a pilgrim looking for a nutritious meal to fuel your walk or a casual visitor in search of a delightful dining experience by the river, Relais de la Nive promises to meet your expectations with grace and flavor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course A La Carte meal from this restaurant The food was outstanding and it was £38 euros per person. The large beers were a little pricey so we should have had the wine lol. Would definitely go back.

We had a ver delicious meal with a suggestion of the cook, which was a typical Basque dish and my partner had a lovely pork dish. As dessert we a ganache au chocolat and i had the pavlova. It was outstanding delicious very well presented. The waiters were very helpful and friendly. It is a pity that we left Saint Jean, as we surely would go back to dine again. Very reasonable prices and superb service. Very recommendable

One of the best spots to eat in town. The food is amazing and the service was great. We went multiple times because of the delicious meals, and how patient the staff was with large parties and small children. They even had a high chair for our toddler. The view is also unbeatable. Highly recommend this spot!

There was no space so I returned in the evening. I got a table and ordered boudin noix and a glass of wine. Very good. It is a bit under cooked for my liking but onetheless very good. The local red wine is very strong. I was so full that I could not have dessert which was disappointing. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. The price was also very reasonable. I wanted to leave a tip for my waiter but cashier just inputted the price of the meal. My french is not good enough to anything. Anyway it was a nice meal before starting the camino. Do try this place for a pleasant experience even when travelling alone.

Entered this cute looking restaurant with my female companion. She wanted to order the smaller child’s portion meal as she wasn’t very hungry. The waitress said it was only for children, so she then asked for a small salad. The waitress then left the table to go to the back, and the manager came out and made a scene telling us loudly to leave as we were not going to eat, as he is running a restaurant. Very rude and unnecessary as we both planned to have multiple glasses of wine, and I planned to have an appetizer, entree and dessert with coffee, but I literally was never asked for my order. They should call this place The Mad Hatter.
