Perched at an elevation of 1834m, The Eagle's Nest was originally built as a mountain retreat for Hitler and has since been repurposed into a restaurant with stunning panoramic views. Accessible only by a special shuttle bus from the Kehlsteinhaus bus station, this historic site boasts a rich World War II history and was once used by top officials of the Third Reich regime.
Awesome place to see the views of the mountain range and the village below. Only has a little bit of the history to read to say how iconic it is. Overall Great place to visit, definitely a must see if not for the view alone.
Stephen D — Google review
Expensive but worth the trip! The bus is a little confusing, but you have to take the city (838) bus to the Dokumentation station and then buy a tour bus pass to get to the top. 838 drops you off and picks you up from the same area. Convenient! Costs around 11.50Euro for round trip from the main station to the tour station. Keep your ticket for the return. Can also just buy a one-way ticket. We went middle of October. Snow was VERY slippery (and wet) so bring good shoes or walking poles. Was cold but not super cold. Thumbs up if this review helped you! :)
Colton W — Google review
We were surrounded by clouds going up the mountain, but once we went up the elevator, it was clear skies and beautiful. The house is a restaurant which i did not go to. You can climb a little bit of the mountain and take breathtaking pictures.
Debbie D — Google review
Great experience and amazing views!!! If you go when there is snow, expect no treatment on paths could be very treacherous. Would do it again for sure!!! Restaurant was very good also, would eat there again. You need to park then take a bus up to elevator.
Jim S — Google review
A must to go ,the special built buses will take you up the narrow path and the scene from the bus on the way up is something one must experience for themselves. Everyone will be guided into a tunnel where a lift will take you all the way up to the Nest. U will be able to have some snacks at the coffee house when u reach the top.
DFW N — Google review
This is a very cool place to visit. It’s great that such a historical place has remained largely unchanged since construction. Even if you’re not interested in World War II history, the site offers fantastic views assuming the weather is cooperative. We had a nice lunch in the restaurant and I hope to visit again with clearer weather.
Shawn S — Google review
A very good experience. The bus trip up and down is excellent, it makes you appreciate the work involved to create the road in such a short time period. The views from the top are just phenomenal.
Alan W — Google review
Must see and worth the 15 min electrical bus drive up mountain. Spectacular views. Terrible history but worth remembering all of us to have this never happen again. In the sun-gallery there is some information on the site and history.

Located near the bus station that takes visitors to the Eagles Nest, Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg is a museum dedicated to studying and remembering the history of National Socialism. Once a summer retreat for senior Nazis, including Hitler, this area became a significant seat of Nazi power during the Third Reich. The museum's exhibits cover various aspects of Nazi terror, from the forced takeover of the area to Hitler's racial politics and foreign policy.
Loads of Erie history on the area, audio self walking tour filled with photos, models, artifacts, and stories of the era. At the end of the tour you walk through 5% of the bunkers used.
R C — Google review
enter for free after purchasing bus ticket. get the audio guide in your favourite language (40 min guide is enough) and start your time journey and learn the connection of the black era to the local village. after finishing the floor, head to the bunker and witness a glimpse of ww2 as you follow the tunnels. very educational in this thematic.
David A — Google review
Why are the staff so unfriendly and hostile? It was the 29th August, 2025. We had done the Eagle's Nest and the tour operator allowed time for us to visit the Documentation Centre. Now, naively, it was our assumption that the centre was INCLUDED in the Munich to Eagles Nest trip but we were mistaken, as we soon found out. So we sauntered in - no queues in sight, no price list anywhere. We approached an entrance to the right before being accosted by a very rude woman. Now, there's a way to deal with people and there's a way not to. Had she been more polite, we would have apologised and simply paid the entrance fee, whatever it was - but because she was so hostile we simply left. That's 4 entrance fees you cost the museum lady! It costs nothing to be nice, but it does cost to be otherwise. Reading some of the other negative reviews, staff rudeness seems to be a common theme. At the very least have a visible price list on display or a sign at the tour entrance "No entry without tickets".
Gavin — Google review
Ticket to Kehlsteinhaus includes free entrance to this center, so it’s best to visit the house first and then come here afterward. Unfortunately, you can’t buy a combined ticket for both at this location. The place is easy to find from the bus stop. A free audio guide is available in multiple languages. If you follow the guide strictly, you might miss some of the wall displays, so take your time to explore on your own as well. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, and retractable chairs are available at the entrance for those who need them. At the end of the tour, you’ll also have the chance to visit the bunkers.
PRAJWAL M — Google review
A must see. A very well organised and planned out museum, telling the story of the area and the importance of enjoying the peaceful landscape while respecting the history. You get free entry with your ticket to Eagles Nest, alternatively it is €3 per adult. There are free audio guides: you can either choose to listen as you go by entering exhibition codes, do a 40 minute guide, or an 80 minute guide. The temporary exhibition, Portraits by Stefan Hanke was exceptional to see also. Although I had studied WW2 and other wars in school and university, I was still moved and felt it for the rest of my time in Berchtesgaden.
Kate — Google review
Seeing this bunker in person is a interesting experience, but I really enjoyed going through and reading all the history in the museum and seeing all the artifacts related to World War Two. In my opinion the most interesting thing there was the map used to plan attacks in World War Two.
Jake H — Google review
This is among the best history museums I have ever been to. It put the region's role in World War II and actions of the Nazis and historical artifacts of the time in context. It was thorough and included personal stories. We surveyed the entire exhibit and used the audio guide, as well. It was not over done, but it was well done with an extreme amount of detail. All history museums could learn from this center. Thank you.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Salt Mine Berchtesgaden offers a family-friendly tour of a 1500s salt mine, featuring miners' slides, a salt lake, and an illuminated grotto. Once owned by Berchtesgaden's princely rulers, the mine now welcomes visitors to experience its rich history. The hour-long tour includes a ride on a miniature train deep into the mountain, where an enormous chamber reveals the mining process.
Good activity to do with kids and you can also explore the salt mine also. Perfect vacation here. However, taking a photo inside is not allowed but it not a problem😊 Tips: No need to wait if you buy a ticket in advance in order to choose the entry time before enter.
Ppemi B — Google review
The tour starts with a traditional railway into the mountain. Inside the mountain you can see and learn some interesting about the salt mining. The guided tour includes two times very cool slides from one to another level and a short crossing of an underground lake by boat. Recommend to buy you tickets online. Parking means extra costs unfortunately.
Öht — Google review
The tour of the salt mine was very well organized. Unfortunately, taking photos and videos is not allowed. We went down some sections using slides, and there was also a boat ride on an underground salt lake, accompanied by beautiful light shows and music. It was a very touching experience for me. I highly recommend this program to anyone visiting the area.😊
Marta A — Google review
What a great experience to make this tour in the salt mine. There are timeslot entries and once you are inside you get an overall to put on. Then you board a small train that brings you inside the mine. When you get off you take two wooden slides down to the level where the guided tour starts. That slide was big fun for most of the visitors. With the tour you make a long walk with regular stops at interesting locations where you get information from the guide or via the audio guide in your own language. There is even a small boat ride over a salt lake with a light show when you are crossing. At the end you go up again with a lift, hop on the train and back to the entrance. The salt in the mine was formed over 200 million years ago, during the Triassic period, when a shallow sea as part of the Thetys ocean evaporated and left behind thick layers of concentrated salt. Over millions of years this salt was covered with rocks and with the forming of the Alps moulded and squeezed between rock layers With the tour you can see those layers in the walls and you can taste the salt. The salt is now extracted using wet mining where large quantities of water are pumped in the layers via drill holes. The concentrated salt solution (brine) is then pumped to a processing plant to be turned into salt for all purposes. In the shop you can buy this Alpine salt and more.

We didnt go in. It is a tourist trap. Tickets are expensive 25€ and ~32€ with some combined tickets, 50minutes guided trip. Its beyond me why there has to be amusement parks in saltmines. Torda salt mine was enough, also for a fragment of this price, and you could stay there as long as you wanted. Which is great for lungtherapy. Western countries are so kapitalistic they would even make air as a privilege... Basic human necessities like peeing is already an expensive privilege in most part of germany. No I dont have coins, No I dont want to buy the cupon down in the overpriced shop, tankstation or whatever. It is rare to find free toilet in germany. Their store: (Their tablesalt is slightly cheaper in the nearby stores.) +They have iodized salt with selene in the merch store. - They have iodized salt with extra fluoride. I remember fluoride was the main experimental material in the soviet era, they poisoned the water source of an entire village, it turned out it is causing people to become paranoid and an intense drop in their IQ. For pregnant women it is highly recommended to avoid it. It also causes tyroid problems and the dissolvement of calcium from the bones into the bloodstream. Im strongly against this. It is just a scam that is good for your teeth. It is against your brain. Its not something advised to put in your food, but it is already in the tapwater... Which may explain the behaviour of society nowadays. The fact they still successfully mistyped my name in their answer also just convinces me we did the right decision not going in... Just because the government, the authority, the american FDA approved something as food and somebody got bribed to bend over the lobbying, it wont make things healthy or beneficial for the people or their health. Tobacco, sugar lobby, hidrogenized ultraprocessed plant oils, fluoride..etc.
Bea K — Google review
Interesting history of Salt mining combined with family fun (cart, slides, boating) in 1 hr. You can park the car for 4 euro on the parking on the other side of the river and road. Beware when weather is bad you need an umbrella to get to the entrance

Really good enjoyed it, audio guides for us English people, was good fun really enjoyed it, the slides were nuts lol 😆 really hoped to have picked up a visitor guide book showing the caves and things as photos weren't allowed and I don't recommend even trying it. But they certainly like their salt.

Wonderful place for traditional German food! The beer is sublime, got to sample first which was nice! Lol. Average price but you get plenty, Ox in dark beer sauce was lush, but we couldn't finish it, sorry!

Cosy place, fast service and great beers Although, their food is rather pricy. More than 18€ for a Wiener schnitzel, and then not even veal but pork, that’s close to a crime At least beers for less than 5€

Their kitchen was closed when we arrived at 3pm but they still had really nice already cooked food options like sausages, roast pork, chicken and a whole lot of salad options. You pay by weight of the dish, price was really good for the amount you get. Would definitely recommend.

One of the best German food ive had so far. Portion was right. Not too big. Seasoned perfectly as food was not too salty as normally German food would be. Fried chicken was half of chicken and crispy outside and moist inside. Nice restaurant and quite big too. Service was nice though they were busy

Foods were delicious, especially our first try for the local food, Bavaria white sausage, the special-made sauce was what made it so delicious! Fried fish was also nice and recommended. Our waitress was kind and spoke really good English. As a whole, it’s a great dinner experience!

Saint Bartholomew's Church, situated near Konigsee Lake in Bavaria, is a picturesque pilgrimage church dating back to 1697. The church boasts stunning red onion-domed towers set against the backdrop of the Bavarian Alps, creating a breathtaking sight. Inside, visitors can admire intricate woodwork, ornate altars, and beautiful stained glass windows in a peaceful atmosphere.
a very beautiful church from 1697. baroque style, 2 onions dome and red domed roof. only can be reach by the boat or after a long hike through mountains. the view at the shore of Königssee is worth it, the surrounding green fields are superb.

We visited the stunning Königssee and were amazed by the picturesque Pilgrimage Church of St. Bartholomew. Nestled at the foot of the Alps, its red domes and serene lakeside setting made it feel like a scene from a postcard. Peaceful, historic, and absolutely breathtaking—a must-see when in Bavaria!

Built in 1134, expanded, and rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th century, surrounded by mountains, a lake, and green meadows, it seems like something straight out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Fantastic.

Great scenery, you can rent a rowing boat for 25 euro if you want to row to this church
P R — Google review
Beautiful place, that’s true, but the church itself is seen in 2-3 minutes. The surroundings are much more appealing. However, the return system of the boats should be revised and have either booked return times to control how much people are waiting in line or have much more boats going from here to Königssee Seelände. We waited for more than 1h to be able to get back to the boat and return to the parking lot!…

Nice and compact place to visit, if you're already on Königssee. But be careful: if you visit this place in the evening (after 3 PM), during a tourist season, you might wait in a really long line (from the pier to the church entrance) in order to board the returning boat.

The whole place around Königsee is heavenly. Everyone should get down here and explore the beauty from St. Bartholomew's angle. One of the most beautiful lakes I've been so far! The boat trip is a little long since it moves very slow, but the views are just great! We first stopped at St Bartholomew and walked around. The crystal clear waters invite you in even though its rather cold, but we were lucky it was sunny & warm. Then took the boat again to the 2nd stop Salet from there we walked approx. 15min to the next lake Obersee. If I was impressed at the 1st stop I was mesmerized here looking into the blue/green clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. So if you're planning to go do go all the way to Obersee its worth the trip. You could spend a whole day just walking around these lakes.

The most unforgettable palce in Germany. I visited this place in October. You can take boat and hearing the horn sounds while taking the boat to explore the lake view.

This was our second visit to Königssee after eight years – and the lake still amazes us just as much ☺️ The boat ride is a fantastic experience – maybe not the cheapest, but definitely worth it. On the way, the guide explains everything in both German and English, and one of the highlights is when they play the trumpet and the sound echoes back beautifully from the mountains – a truly unique moment. We recommend stopping at St. Bartholomä, and then continuing by boat to Salet, from where you can walk to Obersee and further to Röthbachfall, Germany’s highest waterfall. The scenery along the way is absolutely stunning – Königssee is one of those places you’ll always want to return to.

No doubt one of the highlights of our trip to Bavaria, a boat ride across the lake and lunch on the far side. The location is extremely popular, the parking area alone is huge, I imagine it serves other activity points as well. Very touristy on the approach to the ferry jetties, loads of souvenir shops and restaurants/ food outlets. Around lunchtime boats leave every five minutes, we had no waiting time, we bought a ticket and hopped straight onto the next ferry. Everything was highly efficient. Loved it.

Malerwinkel is a serene forest area with walking trails and a popular viewing spot that offers breathtaking views of Königssee lake. The trail leads to the Malerwinkel viewpoint, providing an excellent vantage point overlooking the lake and extending all the way to Sankt Bartholoma. While it may be crowded during peak season, the short 20-minute trek from the parking lot makes it accessible for most visitors.
What a place! Just like its name suggests – it’s truly heavenly. Go there and take in the breathtaking view of Königssee. No picture can ever capture how stunning it really is.

A great boat trip on the most beautiful lake in Germany. The prices are fair, and we found the lines were not long since we arrived early in June
Nika K — Google review
A viewpoint with a stunning view of the lake and the little church on the far shore. Just a 10–15 minute leisurely walk from the pier through a pleasant forest.
Maria G — Google review
Beautiful viewpoint after a short 20mins trek/walk from parking lot brings you to the Malerwinkel view point. A beautiful View point to Koenigsee. It could be full of tourists during peak season. It could be little challenge with small kids to walk down there as slight uphill walk is there. For those who like to trek long trails, they have a lot of options around the place.

The views are always breathtaking. A short walk to the Malerwinkl is always worth it. Recommended early in the morning, or during meals when all the tourists are busy having their meals. The lake environment is always worth the trip.

Unique peaceful view that take your mind and keep you speechless. The lake is really one of the best I’ve seen with the mountains surrounding it.

A nice view point, with a view of the the Königssee lake, The journey from the port is easy and takes about ten minutes. The restaurant/the café is probably closed. You can walk further to the waterfall, the nature around is beautiful and looks untouched. I loved the place despite the rain :-) It might have been the reason there were not so many tourists.

Excellent for a quick stop or a full day. Nice swimming spots too. Easy and free for an hour parking spots. Takes about 10 minutes to walk to the vista point from most parking locations. Absolutely worth it.

Jennerbahn is a gondola and lift system located in Berchtesgaden, offering access to a winter sports resort and scenic summer hiking and climbing region. The area features five downhill skiing areas, including Obersalzberg, Gotschen, Hochschwarzeck, Rossfeld, and Jenner. Visitors can also enjoy ski touring in the Alps. The Jenner peak at 1874 meters offers unparalleled views of the Watzmann and Konigssee.
We drove with Jennebahn during the promotion. It was the longest day and shortest night. So we got back in the valley during night. It was really special. Stuff was friendly and professional. Cabins clean.

Scenic lake view from top, you need to hike a bit for it but it’s not that long. Has two stops I’d suggest you go to second one and to the top.

The view is simply incredible, but in my opinion, the price is too high. We paid 82€ with a visitor card discount.
Kristina S — Google review
The cable car ride up the mountain was really beautiful. You've got views of the Bavarian Alps all around, and you pass over cows grazing on the mountainside with their bells ringing to create an almost idyllic scene. It did cost us nearly $100 for just two people to ride the cable car up and down the mountain, so that was a little steep (no pun intended). Once we got to the top, there are lots of trails to hike. We took the one where you can best overlook Lake Konigsee. Spectacular views! Really beautiful!!
Kelly L — Google review
Decent cable car. I find it a bit pricy to pay 50e to go to the peak and back. But the views are stunning
AllPhoto P — Google review
The views from the top are beautiful, but we’ve been to other funiculars where the views can be even more breathtaking. It’s not worth to buy the ticket online, there was almost no waiting queue for the ticket office when we went today (13th August, around 11h00?) and that way they can take your Guest Card for a small discount. It’s expensive nonetheless, but we wanted to have this experience. However, you will not see the lake from above if you stay at the panoramic platform, even on the very top. You have to hike the trail, with uneven stones and no protection (you can easily fall off the trail… and really hurt yourself!), and it can be a workout especially if it is hot. So, not recommended for people with limited mobility. I believe this should be more clear for those buying the tickets to go up, as it can be a disappointment if you don’t want or simply can’t hike the trail that will lead you to the panoramic views with the lake. Also, we parked at the same big parking lot you use when you visit lake Königssee, but couldn’t understand if you could actually park near the funicular station or not (even though Google Maps says you can drive up to there, I believe you have to park at the big parking lot and walk to the station as we did).
André M — Google review
Great views. If you want to hike down from the very top, it takes over 4-5 hrs. It is very difficult to walk or hike down on the steep slippery gravel. So, you might need a round trip ticket.
Michael H — Google review
It was the loveliest day to take the cable car up to the top of the mountain. While rather pricey, the views were worth it. I would definitely suggest buying the trip up to the summit about 1800 m. It’s around 42€ per person. But if your accommodation provides you with a guest card, you will get 4€ off typically. the round trip takes approximately 20 minutes each way. We got to see a lot of skiers ⛷️ on the way up and down!

Schloss Berchtesgaden, once a medieval monastery and later the summer residence of the Bavarian royal family, is now home to a permanent collection of rare family treasures. The fine Renaissance rooms showcase sacred art, including wood sculptures by renowned late-Gothic artists. Visitors can explore two weaponry rooms displaying hunting tools and rifles from the 19th century, as well as enjoy the beautiful rose garden on the grounds.
Highly recommend to visit such a nice palace! Rich in art, architecture variety and so many nice decorative pieces presented there. The guide schedule is online, foreign languages are on printouts, even better: you have time to discover details while others were just listening to the guide speaker:) Shame, that photos are not permitted inside, so many great things to remember.

Beautiful little castle home to the remaining former Bavarian Royal family. It is situated in the town square of Berchtesgaden. We did really enjoy this beautiful and quiet small town during our tour to this place.
SS H — Google review
Very nice castle with lots of interesting details, but the guided tour moves on way too fast, with guide filling the airspace and instantly proceeding to the next step. This despite of the request to give more time to look around. Because of this hurry a couple of nice experiences were left seriously lacking. There's so much to see inside the castle that it's very annoying if you are forced to just run through. I guess she was just obeying the Orders. A disappointment because of the haste.

Schloos is a great small city. I recently visited and was impressed by the beautiful city center, the close proximity to The Eagle Nest, and the great variety of restaurants. The locals were also incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a great place to visit if you want to get away from it all and relax!

Nice and neat southern German town in the beautiful Alpine setting. Dozen od coffee shops, restaurants and stores with local products, semi precious stones (belief in the power od crystals that reaches to pre-christian times is obviously still alive here among some members od local community) and Schnaps (sort of brandy) infused with berries, pine needles od apricot aromas. Some terrific examples of late middle-ages "buerger" architecture as well as picture perfect small town castle placed at the outskirts of town. A bit enigmatic frescoes at the gallery opposite to the castle commemorate soldiers fallen in two twentieth century wars. Town has certain sinister reputation, but instead of trying to decipher it I would rather suggest spending some time on the magnificent Koenigslake some 6-7 km away.

Highly recommended for walking trails. There are restaurants/bars along the trails that are very beautiful and at great lookout points to take a break. Very beautiful river along the shorter easier trail as well, great place to take pictures. Parking is paid, but not too expensive for Germany.

Majestic mountain ranges and beautiful views to meadows and lakes in this area. Beautiful trails along the Hintersee lake. Great hiking in the mountains with spectacular views. Terrific St. Sebastian church in Ramsau by the river Ramsauer Ache. Parking everywhere difficult and expensive. Locals are not always happy with so many tourists visiting the area.

This is probably the best park I have ever visited! The nature is incredible 😍 The lake is very clear, lots of people were swimming there. The water seemed too cold for me (late August), but the view is really amazing! There is private parking next to it, boat rentals (12€ per hour) and hotels with restaurants 👍🏻 My recommendation! ❤️

I have been to many places in Germany but I can argue that Nationalpark Berchtesgaden is one of the most beautiful places, if not the most beautiful place, in Germany. Königssee is a banger with many hiking trails around. You can also climb the mountain Jenner which is also beautiful as well, which I did when it snowed! (Even better). Definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone to visit.

Gaststätte St. Bartholomä is a charming restaurant located near Lake Königssee, offering a delightful dining experience for visitors. The establishment operates with a cash-only policy and provides English-speaking service at the cashier. Guests are assigned tables and given numbers to facilitate food delivery by the servers. The menu features delectable dishes such as smoked trout and currywurst, which have received high praise from tourists.
We went during lunch time at around 1pm. Food was fast and delicious. Portion sizes are somewhat smaller for he high price but was okay. Menu is good for all people including vegan and vegetarians. Kid menu is also available. You can pay with card. Food tasted fresh and waiters were friendly inspire of the rush hour.

Food is mixed: their fried lake trout for two is not bad but their pork knuckle is bad (tough meat, chewy rind that’s not crispy). Prices are steep given the location so value for money isn’t great. But it’s basically one out of two options on the island so all things considered it’s ok.

Gaststätte St. Bartholomä @ Königssee 🥨🇩🇪 📍 St. Bartholomä, Königssee, Bavaria After arriving at St. Bartholomä by boat, I stopped for lunch at Gaststätte St. Bartholomä, a traditional Bavarian restaurant right by the lakeshore. I ordered the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) served with potatoes—a hearty and flavorful meal, perfect after the chilly, rainy boat ride. It was a rainy day, so sitting indoors with the warm, rich aroma of Bavarian cooking felt extra comforting. The crispy skin and tender meat paired well with the rustic potato side, and the portion was generous. Through the window, I could see the mist drifting over the lake and the iconic pilgrimage church, adding a peaceful, atmospheric backdrop to the meal. 🧭 Tip: It can get busy when tour boats arrive, so head in right after docking to secure a table with a lake view. On rainy days, indoor seating is especially cosy.

Service was terrible. Male waiter suspect might be owner was often grumpy and although waited to be seated he was annoyed and just said inside or outside and walked off. He kept on mumbling in German when he passes by Asians and seem like in a very bad mood. Ordered , food was very mediocre like with loads of salt. When it came to paying with his grumpy attitude he shoved the card payment device and said tip or no tip. Didn’t mean to be rude and said would like to pay for my food only. He again , louder and angrier “TIP OR NO” . I was shocked with such attitude and I said sternly NO TIP. Then he said “THATS VERY NICE OF YOU”. And I inserted my card to pay and he kept on saying suspecting cursing/ scolding in German knowing foreigners have no idea what he is talking about . Just take the boat and have a better meal at Konigsee

Ordered through the cashier. She speaks English. Only takes cash payment. We were assigned a table and was given a number so the server can locate us for the food. Smoked trout was good, and was toddler approved! I just wished it came with potatoes instead of bread. We also got the currywurst. It's one of the best so far. Every stop we did during our trip, I always try to get a curry wurst. So far, this is on top of my list coming from the palata of a tourist.

Fischerei St. Bartholomä is a popular spot for tourists visiting Konigssee, whether arriving from the main station or Salet. The fish is smoked on-site and visitors can watch the process. There's no table service; patrons order at the cashier and find their own seating, often sharing tables. While the fish is pricey, it's highly recommended for its quality. Fischerei St. Bartholomä 🐟🇩🇪 📍 Königssee, Bavaria At Fischerei St. Bartholomä, we tried their smoked fish, a local specialty freshly caught from the pristine waters of Königssee. The meat was tender and moist, infused with a gentle smoky aroma that enhanced its natural sweetness without overpowering it. The restaurant’s lakeside location makes the meal even more memorable—you can savor the flavor while gazing out at the emerald-green waters and the iconic red-domed St. Bartholomä church. It’s a peaceful, postcard-worthy setting that pairs perfectly with the rustic taste of the smoked fish. 🧭 Tip: Smoked fish is one of the area’s signature delicacies and can sell out quickly during peak hours. Visit earlier in the day or right after the main lunch rush to secure your portion and enjoy a quieter atmosphere by the lake.

The smoked fish is good. It is worth a try if you took the boat all the way here. If you decide to stay, order and pay for your fish inside where the expresso machine is. Get your fish and find a free seat. Seats can be found inside the expresso room or the alcove room with benches and tables. You can buy the smoked fish to go or to stay. If you get it to go, it comes cold and sealed in a plastic. If you get it to stay, it comes in room temp under a heat lamp. The latte is good.

This is the only spot in Königssee where you can grab a quick bite at the middle stop. The menu mainly features seafood sandwiches, so keep that in mind. The sandwich itself was decent, nothing exceptional, but it does the job. Convenient option if you’re looking for something fast and don’t want a full sit-down meal.

I stopped here for a "zum mitnehmen" fish sandwich to check off an experience off my list. They had a few different species of fish, including the catch from Königssee itself. The sandwich as such wasn't bad. But then not delicious either. If you're looking to sample fresh catch though, then you could go here.

It is a famous stopover for all tourists that sail the Königssee, whether you come from the main station or Salet. They smoke their fish in the backyard which is even open to let you see it. There is no service though, you order and you get your food right at the cashier, then you find yourself a seat and eat. Tables are shared. The fish is expensive but the best I have ever eaten. It is not from the lake however because there is too much demand. Recommended a visit.

Good fish and salad, it’s busy in the meal time so you have to be patient.(however, waiters handle well) The desserts is not fresh that the sponge isn’t soft and creamy enough. I will order only main dish instead of any desserts next time. But it’s a good place to chill out on the isolated place:)

The menu features authentic German dishes such as pork knuckle, Bavarian duck with orange sauce, red cabbage, and potato dumplings. Vegetarian options like potatoes, pumpkin soup, and knudels are also available.
Had a wonderful time at Gasthof NEUHAUS! It’s great to see the lederhosen tradition still going strong here. The beer was fantastic, and it was even better to enjoy it while looking at the stunning mountains from the terrace. The fries we ordered were crispy and delicious, a perfect snack to go with the drinks. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere of the place is fantastic – cozy, traditional, and welcoming. A perfect spot for a relaxed meal and drink with a beautiful view. Highly recommend it!

Excellent restaurant, full of traditional options and even more vegetables than most German menus. Pork roast and burger recommended from what we tried, but the home made bacon and caraway sauerkraut is excellent. Was also very excited to see palatchinke on the seasonal dessert menu, an uncommon and excellent dish with very high quality ice cream. Like most restaurants in the Berchtesgaden area, also beautiful scenery to sit outside, though also looked nice and cozy inside.

We stopped by here without planning to have a full meal — just wanted a small snack and some drinks — but the place was so inviting we couldn’t resist ordering some German food. And we’re glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive. Nice ambience! The indoor area is very crowded, but outdoor seating is available. We didn’t have a reservation and still managed to get a table. The food portions are huge 😅. I had read reviews saying the portions are big, but they are even bigger than other Bavarian restaurants in Germany. The dessert cake portions are also very generous and the daily cake (plum cake?) taste very good with cream. Prices are reasonable and the food tastes good. The crispy duck with orange and red cabbage is really tasty. The roasted pork was a little dry, but it comes with sauce so it was okay. We weren’t sure how to enjoy the side potatoes—maybe mixed with something? Septi is very friendly and helpful. She checked on us during the meal, and her smile made us feel very welcome. We wanted to pay with Amex, and she even changed the payment machine so we could—so sweet of her. “Terima Kasih, Septi!”

Really enjoyed our dinner here. Ne and my wife split the 1/2 pork knuckle and the Bavarian duo (2 pretzels with flavored creek cheeses and butter) and it was SO much food, but both very delicious. The inside is a typical Bavarian interior, which we loved, but opted to sit on the patio despite it being a little chilly. They have furs to sit on and blankets to use if you get too cold. Great view of the mountains from the patio and the service was very attentive and helpful.
