Clovelly in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Clovelly, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Clovelly is a postcard-pretty fishing village famous for its steep, cobbled main street where no cars are allowed and goods are still moved by sledge. Whitewashed cottages tumble down the hillside to a historic harbour once linked with novelist Charles Kingsley and explorer Sir Francis Drake. Visitors come for coastal walks along the South West Coast Path, boat trips and sea views across Bideford Bay. Privately owned and carefully preserved, the village offers museums, craft workshops and traditional inns that highlight its maritime heritage.
With favorites like The Farmers Arms, Little Stars - baby classes and toddler classes, and The Candyland Studios Gallery, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like New Inn Hotel and The Red Lion Hotel so you can get the best taste of Clovelly while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Milky Way Adventure Park in Clovelly, Bideford offers a wide range of attractions for visitors of all ages. The park features the Cosmic Typhoon roller coaster, an expansive indoor adventure play area with activities for both adults and children, wildlife displays including live falconry shows, dodgems, laser target shooting, and a special area designed for young children. Additionally, the park is wheelchair-friendly with accessible facilities and free mobility scooters and wheelchairs available.
We had a great family day out at The Milky Way with plenty to keep the children (5 and 2) amused. There was plenty to do inside and outside. The park is very clean and well looked after, there is plenty of space. I appreciated the effort put in to having things for under 5's to do. We also enjoyed the Magic Show and Birds of Prey shows - these where a great addition to the other attractions. The staff where also very friendly and accommodating.

Fun day out for whole family - went with a 5, 7, 2x 13 year olds and the assorted parents and grandparents. Loads for the younger ones to do, enough to keep the older ones interested as well. Highlight for myself and the teenagers was the Falconry display. Absolutely amazing stuff with the birds, great talk and one of my boys purchased an art print from David who runs them. Also great display of Star Wars and Dr Who memorabilia. Fantastic day out.
Gareth C — Google review
Fantastic, despite truly awful weather! Torrential rain most of the day, with blustery wind, so some of the outside rides were forced to close for safety reasons. A couple of them did open briefly and were enjoyed by the teens in my family group. The birds of prey centre and the beautiful art of David who runs it, were still accessable, and he managed a small, very informative and interesting, indoor display with some of his birds, however the outdoor display with the larger birds could not go ahead. Brilliant! and a lovely chap to have met. We visited in late September for a family birthday and there was still plenty to do all day, despite the weather outside. The restaurant staff went out of their way to provide menus for us that included food that my grandson, who has various severe allergies ,was able to eat and later, despite notices saying only food bought there could be consumed there, they very kindly allowed us to bring our own vegan and allergy free birthday cake in for the birthday boy. So very kind and very much appreciated. Our mixed age,( ranging from 9months to 76), family party of nine had an absolutely fantastic time and Great Grandmother 76,gave everyone watching, plenty of laughs by going down the highest Black Hole drop slide!
Kris H — Google review
We went there for the bird show but we did just about every thing else in spite of not having young children. The ticket staff were welcoming and informative. They could not have been more helpful. David the falconer was superb at everything and we had a good chat in his shop and bought some of his amazing artwork. Son took loads of photos. Merlin was very entertaining indeed. Don't want to give anything away but he was hilarious. The cafe had some seriously cheesy jacket spuds. We had to have a milky way as well. The ride staff were polite and fun, and mentioned other things to do. Signposting was good. Thanks for a great day out.
Verity B — Google review
We come to the milky way every year and have always had an amazing time. The rides are fun and the soft play and pottery shed is always a good time. However the highlight of the day are the birds of prey. The bird show is amazing and even though it's normal very similar each year, always worth watching. How are work is beautiful and is my mother in-law favourite artist, so we always have a look at how art and the fact you can meet the birds that they are basted on makes it more special. I don't recommend the cafe, it's basic food and the setting in both cafes are uncomfortable and tbh very expensive however there are plenty of seating to eat an packlunch. It's a welcome to all children of all like and dislikes and all ages. Get there by 11 am and watch the magic show its funny and interesting.
Rebecca C — Google review
We visited on a week day whilst the local schools were back from their Easter break. There were no queues for any of the rides. The sire was very well organised and very tidy. The facilities were all clean. Friendly helpful staff. You can easily spend the whole day and not get bored. Definitely watch one of the shows and do not miss the falconry show I've never seen one like it the birds fly very close to the audience 😀
Robert L — Google review
We visited during half term with a 5 and 8 year old and had a brilliant time! No long waits for rides, and on a couple we went straight back on. Plenty of things to do and only a couple you have to pay extra for (we didn't and still had lots to do). A major highlight was the outdoor falconry show, the presenter was really knowledgeable and had the falcons flying right over our heads. We didn't see the other shows but wish we had now! Also recommend the pizza in the Star Light restaurant, freshly cooked and very tasty.

Wow, what a brilliant adventure park in Devon. Lots of fun for kids and parents together. Love slides, rellercoasters, laser tag(brilliant), painting pottery, penalty shootout and of course science, magic and space talk. All brilliant and entertaining 😁

Little Stars is an indoor playground that offers baby and toddler classes. The classes are enjoyable and educational, with a variety of songs and themes each week to keep the children engaged. The teacher, Jo, is welcoming, kind, and accommodating. There is a familiar starting and finishing song to help the children establish routine. Additionally, there is convenient free parking available and a pleasant cafe on-site. Overall, Little Stars provides brilliant classes that promote confidence-building and socialization while being fun for the children.
Been taking my boy here for quite a while now and it's absolutely brilliant, built his confidence up and taught him so much as well as being fun and sociable. Jo does a great job here and runs brilliant classes!!
Geoff S — Google review
We enjoy very much to come to Little Stars Bideford and we attended classes there with our toddler regularly. Now, a little smell from the kitchen in the soft play area happened before and can be considered normal for an open space with a kitchen included. But today was actually smoky in the soft play. At the beginning was very obvious at the upper levels and I reported it. A member of staff thanked me for informing them, but nothing happened and in half of hour we had to leave. By then, you could not ignore the smoke anymore, was everywhere and at the top of the soft play you could actually see it. Please repair your exhaust, or at least open doors/windows, it’s not healthy to breathe all that smoke. Thank you
Massimo S — Google review
Brought my daughter to little stars baby class for 6 months, thoroughly enjoyed it. Jo the teacher was so welcoming, kind and accommodating. Different songs and theme each week so the babies as they got older didn’t get bored, but also the same welcoming and finishing song so the children got to know when the class started and finished. Easy to park for free, nice cafe inside.

Nestled near the picturesque village of Clovelly, the Clovelly Waterfall is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Accessible via a pebbly beach, this charming waterfall offers a quaint and serene atmosphere. While not grand in scale, it presents an excellent opportunity for a family outing or leisurely dog walk. Visitors are advised to tread carefully on the slippery stones during low tide.
Don’t follow the road, go down the walk path. Google maps is wrong! Beautiful views. Lush waterfall. Amazing little community. Breathtaking.

. . . . . . With free access once you've paid entry to Clovelly village (£9.50 adult as of 2023), it’s a lovely quick addition to a harbour-side visit—a natural moment of calm in a picturesque village. Just check tide times, wear good shoes, and take your time.
Ajay R — Google review
Clovelly has stunning views, and the entrance fee is worth it for this picturesque village. There is a waterfall, gardens, good food, and donkeys. Highly recommended!

We walked across the rocks on the beach from Clovelly village to see this, not an easy task, watch those ankles, but worth it , nice waterfall!

Museum
Whenever you go to Clovelly, it is essential to visit the Fisherman's cottage museum. The small rooms and objects there are always fascinating, and you can complete your visit with a delightful bag of sweets from the nearby sweet store as you leave. This location has a rich historical background, and the friendly former mail carrier working at the gift shop adds to its charm.
Fabulous little museum, so much history in the actual building itself and about the village. Free entry too. Brilliant.

Very interesting visit to this little cottage that once was home to a family with 12 children!! Make sure you speak with the guide as you can learn about the people and stories from days gone by in Clovelly
Ade R — Google review
Every time we visit Clovelly, visiting the Fisherman's cottage is a must. Never grow tired of looking around the petite rooms and artefacts, finished off with a sweet bag from the lovely sweet shop near the exit.
Yi L — Google review
This gives an insight to how a fisherman used to live.
Rob C — Google review
The lady closed early so we were unable to go in. We were disappointed having spent £17 on tickets and from what we could understand, the tickets were actually unnecessary to visit Clovelly, just for access to the two small museums and garden.
Helen A — Google review
Great place, loads of history... the cheerful ex-posty behind the counter at the gift shop (sweet shop) was charming..👍

The New Inn Hotel in Clovelly offers cosy rooms, some with bay views, within a traditional pub setting. The hotel also features a restaurant serving familiar dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, the establishment is known for its lovely huge scones and gorgeous massive meals. Situated at the heart of Clovelly, this hotel provides a comfortable and inviting place to stay while exploring the charming village and enjoying delicious food and exquisite wine with attentive service.
We had an amazing weekend at the New Inn Hotel, couldn't have asked for better service or hospitality. John and Coral were amazing! Some places are dog friendly and the new inn is super dog friendly. Our room was clean and had everything we could need. We ate in the restaurant and left satisfied. Thank you for making us feel very welcome
Cher L — Google review
Location and staff absolutely perfect. The room we booked however wasn't at all what we expected. Mainly because it wasn't even remotely similar to the photo on their website but also due to the fact that when a room is listed 'with sea view' you expect to see the sea when looking out of your window, instead we had to step out onto a balcony (which was shared with two other rooms) and in the distance looking in the direction of said rooms you could see the sea. Very disappointed
Shella W — Google review
Lovely quaint hotel very in keeping with the village. Only bug which isn’t a deal breaker was having the basin in the way whilst on the loo but they have done the best with the space available (I am a standard size man 80kg).

Nestled in the picturesque fishing village of Clovelly, The Red Lion Hotel offers a delightful escape with its serene accommodations, some featuring cozy heated floors. This charming harbourside hotel boasts upscale dining options and two rustic bars that invite you to unwind after a day of exploration. As you stroll through the quaint streets—where cars are absent and donkeys roam—you'll discover the beauty of this 18th-century inn perched right on the quay front.
We initially booked a nights stay at the Lion. However, on receiving such an amazing welcome and the relaxed atmosphere we decided to stay an additional night. The staff could not be more accommodating or do enough for you. The room was absolutely beautiful and the food, restaurant and bar was out of this world. I think it's the most relaxed I have ever been on a stay. Cannot recommend this place and the beautiful village highly enough. Even the locals are friendly and happy to help or answer any questions. We will definitely be booking a return visit. Thank you all once again Sam

We had such a warm welcome on arrival, and it was so lovely to check in early. Our room had gorgeous high quality furnishings and the bed was so comfortable. We watched the dolphins out of the window, how magical ! Breakfast and dinner were fabulous with high quality ingredients and such attention to detail. The staff at the hotel were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Clovelly is such an interesting and unique place to visit I would highly recommend it for a cosy autumn stay 🧡
Jill C — Google review
The area is stunning of course! After a long walk down, managed to get there without going over on my ankle - what a win. Picture perfect harbour and a lovely little pub/hotel. Grabbing some food to refuel - unfortunately feels like a trap - completely overpriced and underdelivering in quality. The sad thing is the staff seemed friendly, there was a general nice atmosphere ... then the food came. £20 for a lobster roll - it seemed out of a jar and the chicken burger I didn't even finish. The menu has lots of seafood and someone naive (like myself) thought this will be a pub that takes their position at the harbour seriously and uses it as a unique selling point with the food - disappointing to say the least. Don't be naive or get caught in the dream of the picture perfect area that the Red Lion seems to rely on to paper over the hideous prices and quality of their food. It wasn't the food that refuelled us for the hike back to the top - rather a shock of disappointment and indignation that give us the energy to get out of there. Never again.
Neil C — Google review
This is intended as a constructive review because there is much to recommend the Red Lion and much to improve. The welcome was friendly, warm and humorous, the room was lovely with a view of the sea and harbour, albeit a tiny bathroom. The location is utterly beautiful, the village quaint and charming and, if you don't mind stumbling over pebbles and rocks, there are walks in every direction. We were asked to choose a dinner venue in advance. The restaurant main dishes started at £32 up to £60 so we chose to eat in the bar, usually a good option since the food comes from the same kitchen. At this point I discovered that, upstairs it is all Club Lounge. Walk into the bar and it is Ryanair. We opted to eat outside and were given a greasy gadget which told us when to collect the food. Fish and chips, £20 and literally fish and chips only, came in a takeaway box with disposable cutlery, no-name sachets of acidic orange ketchup and there were wheelie bins for disposal of the boxes, presumably because the tables are seldom cleaned. This is not my usual experience of a £200 a night hotel. There seemed to be constraints on when we could eat which indicates a shortage of staff in the kitchen. On the plus side, the breakfast was excellent and beautifully served. I can see the constraints of both finding staff in such a location and catering for the many tourists but both the way guests are treated in the bar and the quality of the food supply should be a matter of concern for a diligent manager.
Martin W — Google review
Excellent hotel right in the harbour of the village of Clovelly. Food excellent albeit a little more expensive than some places but given the location well worth the extra. Hotel gives you access to the village and the Land Rover ride to and from the visitor centre.

We stopped at the Red Lion in Clovelly on a long coastal walk. The location was beautiful, the food & drink amazing and the staff so friendly and helpful. One of the best pubs we've been to on our holiday. Would thoroughly recommend a visit if you're passing.
Sean T — Google review
We absolutely loved everything about this place. The staff are just amazing, they looked after us so well. Everything is sourced locally, which not only benefits the guests but also the local economy and is worth every penny. The food and the service is second to none.
J M — Google review
We did not stay there nor attend the fine dining because you only have two options, very expensive or very casual. Unfortunately we chose the casual which was shocking. Clearly staff is limited like the food options which was basic and completely overpriced! Drunken empty and sort of down in the sellers atmosphere where service was completely neglected (waiter tried but was occupied completely with chatting to drunken customers or serving at the bar next door!!) Tables with left cutlery everywhere and we were there 40mins before getting to a meal. Not a great atmosphere at all. We decided to leave, was really uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Drink was also wrongly served probably too busy trying to manage too much on his own.

Cafe
Nestled in the charming village of Clovelly, The Cottage Tea Rooms is a delightful spot for those seeking a cozy retreat. This quaint café offers an array of quick bites and is particularly famous for its scrumptious scones that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Visitors rave about the cream tea, which many describe as the perfect finishing touch to their experience. With its inviting atmosphere and delicious offerings, The Cottage Tea Rooms provides a lovely place to unwind while enjoying traditional treats amidst stunning surroundings.
We visited the beautiful village of Clovelly on a gorgeous sunny Sunday and spent several hours exploring the houses, museums, harbour and coast. We lunched in the Cottage Tea Rooms halfway up the hill which afford wonderful views over the harbour and sea. We ate outside to make the most of the view, and although it was busy it was also peaceful. We chose local dressed crab and smoked mackerel both served with salad, coleslaw a bread roll and an apple. The fish was delicious and very fresh and there was lots if it (you work up an appetite climbing the hill!). The staff we friendly, and efficient and I'd certainly recommend it for a lunchtime stop.

Lovely place to sit and eat. Large selection of great dishes and a reasonable amount of drinks to accompany. The scones and quiche were both nice. The hot chocolate didn't dissapoint and the staff were excellent.

Went here and I got the Gentlemans Delightful tea. Presentation was great, and the tea and scones tasted good. The sandwich was ok, a bit dry. I would say the portion size isn't great for the amount you pay, as we were all still hungry afterwards. If you can get a table outside, the view is amazing on a clear day
Matt B — Google review
Beautiful place to sit and eat, even when it’s wet. The food is pricy but really nice. The scones are soft and so is the clotted cream. They have lots of options and the staff are friendly, hardworking and fast!

As you make your way down into the charming village of Clovelly, you’ll find the tearoom about halfway along the cobbled path. It serves a lovely selection of tearoom favourites: baguettes, sandwiches, scones, and quiche, just to name a few. Both hot and cold drinks are available too. We were lucky with the weather and made the most of it by sitting outside with a stunning view of the sea. There are a few benches with umbrellas tucked away at the back. In the sunshine, it’s a real little sun trap! The food was delicious, with generous portions. The quiche was homemade, which is always a bonus. It’s great to get fresh, quality food in a spot that could so easily rely on passing trade. One bit of feedback I’d offer. It would be lovely if the outdoor dining area was a smoke-free zone. Although there weren’t any ashtrays provided, a couple of people near us lit up while we were eating, which did slightly affect the otherwise lovely atmosphere. I’m not suggesting the tearoom encourages smoking at all, but a clear sign or a little note from staff could really help keep the area enjoyable for everyone
Neil B — Google review
Stopped here for a chocolate cream tea which was lovely! The staff are nice but we had to ask for some of our items a couple times as they seemed to have been forgotten about. There's a lovely view back over the bay if you sit outside in the garden.
Kira B — Google review
Stopped for lunch on the way up from harbour and were lucky enough to get a table at the front of the garden with an amazing view. We ordered scotch egg platter and savoury tea, cheese scones could have been a bit more cheesy but we really enjoyed everything and the young staff were brilliant. Our visit here was a highlight of a really lovely day
Karen G — Google review
Nestled in the heart of Clovelly village, this unassuming cafe/tea room surprises with a delightful feature that sets it apart from the rest – breathtaking views of the harbour and beyond. While the sandwiches and lunch mains may be average, the real treat lies in the panoramic views that comes with the outside seating. We had a few varieties of sandwiches, quiche and devon dressed crab, all of them were pretty average with a distinct lack of flavour and priced quite a way off what they would cost if it was sold somewhere else. An average rating based on the quality of the food.

(Translated by Google) In March 2017 we were in Clovelly and visited the Donkeyshop, which has a large number of nice souvenirs. I was drawn to a tweed jacket that wasn't available in my size. Jack said he would make me one to my measurements, took the measurements directly from me and promised the jacket would arrive soon. We paid £85 upfront as security. The jacket came, the sleeves were 20 cm too long. I sent Jack a photo and he asked me to send the jacket back so he could correct the sleeves. I did this. And then nothing happened for weeks. He kept promising to change the sleeves, but after months I canceled the order and asked Jack to refund the deposit. Which he hasn't done to this day. We called the shop again and again and wrote emails. Jack behaved in a completely un-British, rude and brazen manner when I asked for a refund. At least I wasn't responsible for the sleeves being too long; he took the measurements himself. His reason for not wanting to pay the money back was that he canceled the order after waiting five months for the jacket to be changed and returned. Never again Donkeyshop! We visited this shop in March 2017 and I ordered a handtailored jacket from Jack from the measures he took himself from me in the shop. Also we made an advanced payment of about 85 Pounds as to show our agreement and to assure him of the seriousness regarding the order. I was thrilled to call one of those beautiful tweed jackets my own once it would have been shipped to me to Germany. The jacket arrived after a few weeks but the sleeves were much too long. I took a photo for Jack and measured them again myself, they were about 20 cm too long. I emailed Jack and he told me to send the jacket back so that he could shorten the sleeves and ship the jacket back to me. He never did. Nor did I ever get the money back I paid in advance. 85 Pounds for nothing and he behaved very un-British in a very inpolite and impertinent manner. I would not recommend anyone to ever do any business with the owner of the Donkeyshop. I am really shocked about this incident as nothing of it was my fault. We visited this shop in March 2017 and I ordered a handtailored jacket from Jack from the measures he took himself from me in the shop. Also we made an advanced payment of about 85 Pounds as to show our agreement and to assure him of the seriousness regarding the order. Lovely little museum, you walk through after the fisherman's cottage. Nice historic building with lots of interesting items from the past. Also a sweet shop.

Fishermans’s Cottage is found walking along the path by the side of the cottage containing the Kingsley Museum. It is just a few yards down from the New Inn where you’ll come to the pretty little Fisherman’s Cottage, a very special North Devon attraction

Clovelly Harbour

Clovelly Harbour is a historic fishing village located on the north Devon coast. The entire settlement was built around the harbor, which features a pub, various moorings, and a great spot to take a breather after descending the steep cobbled streets. Donkeys are available to help with the steep hill, and visitors can enjoy craft beer and ice cream.
A wonderful harbour village with steep cobbled streets. There are a number of places to eat and drink and plenty of benches for you to stop and relax for a bit. We had a great day there with the dogs and stopped for a drink at the pub by the harbour. There are vehicles, for a small charge, to return you to the main building at the top, but we took up the challenge of walking back up.

Ok, firstly paying to visit a village seems a rip-off...but I am guessing it probably is the best way to control the crowd. The setting of the estate is incredible, the architecture of houses and cobbles pathway are stunning. The walk down and up the hill is pleasurable unless you are less abled or old (probably hellish if it's raining too!) Food is disappointing and expensive though.
Antoine B — Google review
It's absolutely stunning.... I wasn't sure about paying to go in .. but once you are in and see the history and story behind it, it was worth it. Loads of places to rest, pubs and cafes. And a land rover to bring you back up at a cost £2.50, if you wish. Photos don't do it justice, once in there is a short film about the history, I would recommend that 👌

Absolutely blown away with this place it is such a beautiful little village with alot of history. Stunning views and stunning harbour. Well worth a visit

The hill is steep, but THERE ARE DONKEYS. And also craft beer and ice cream. 👍 Clovelly is an historic fishing village on the north Devon coast. It belongs to an estate in a similar way to Portmerion in Wales. People live there and run the village but if you want to visit, there is an admission fee. It is a bit touristy but worth seeing. It sort of hangs off the side of a cliff. The narrow cobbled street descends almost vertically. So be prepared for that. Top to bottom is about a kilometre I believe. But there are plenty of funny little shops to take a break in. At the bottom of the hill you will be rewarded with a view of the old stone walled harbour full of little fishing boats. The Red Lion serves decent pub food. Make sure to have a pint of Clovelly Cobbler from Devon brewer Country Life. Steer clear of the scrumpy. The fish and chips was delicious and made without the skin on the fish. Very few places do it properly like that any more. If you don't want to climb back up the hill you can pay £2.50 for a ride in one of the estate's land rovers. It is a time capsule of an ancient way of life now preserved wholesale by the estate. THERE ARE ALSO DONKEYS. Which used to be used for carrying goods up and down the hill. Happily they are now only there for photo ops. And they are probably the smuggest creatures you will ever see. This reminds me that, obviously, there are no cars in the village. The land rovers take a back road. Everything is dragged up and down the hill on sledges. Other things: Take time to see the film at the visitor centre. The visitor centre has a great range of local craft beer. The visitor centre has a pressed penny machine. Admission is about £8 for adults. The walk is f***ing steep. Wear appropriate shoes. I would say it is not good for people with mobility issues but I am pretty fit and there were little old ladies with canes making it up and down there faster than I. Not sure it would be great for little kids. People live in the village. Respect their privacy and don't peer into windows or knock on doors. Eat ALL THE ICE CREAM. You'll work it off in the climb.

Very pretty little harbour, quaint village with no cars allowed. All owned by one estate, which is cashing in on the tourist industry bug time. Lively walk along the pebbly shore, interesting rock formations and once you get away from the tourist area, unspoilt. Go early: it gets very full after 11am. Recommend eating at the harbour pub, but you must book or you won't get in that day. Steep walk, not suitable for elderly or infirm. Land rover service can take you diwn to the harbour from the car park and take you back for a fee

What a wonderful and beautiful little place to visit. Lots of lovely independent shops, cafes and pubs, a free museum. Great place to spend a day.

What a beautiful place Clovelly is! This is our second time here now and each time has been fantastic! Just wandering through the cobbled streets imagining how life would have been a hundred years ago! The quant little houses and village life would have been so different. Dragging goods up from the sea or down from the top makes life so different.
Jason O — Google review
Well, this is a five star site, but gets only three because there is a £8.5 charge to enter the village. I have read some reviews that the £8.5 allow you to enter the cottages, and that the “walk” (steep downhill, not suitable for elderly or disabled people) along High Street is free. Obviously they don’t let you know that when you arrive at the Visitor Centre. Thanks God there is a Land Rover service at the harbour that takes you back to the parking for £3.5.
Romà J — Google review
Amazing place to visit. Fitness required as no cars allowed on main Street. Houses built from 1880 to 1910. Land rover near Harbour will take you back to entry area for fee.
Gill P — Google review
Clovelly High Street is historic and meandering picturesque village situated near its harbour. It is steep to walk through but it is worthwhile to do so. Many of its buildings are architecturally listed, which adds the ambiance and atmosphere of the high street. There is no vehicular access down the high street and a car park is situated at the top of the village. There is a entrance fee to access the village paid at the visitor centre situated at the car park.
Simon J — Google review
Steep. Very very steep. Great day out though. Use the Land Rover to get back up or walk the road behind the high street as it’s much easier than walking back up the high street itself. Avoid the town when wet/raining as the walk is super slippy. The path is made from sea stone and is very smooth. A visit will cost £8.25 for a double visit per person (You can visit twice within 7 days) or £2.50 just for parking. You don’t need to pay the £8.25 to walk the high street, but is “suggested” you have to pay. £8.25 includes the parking, lovely garden to access and a movie to watch. Plenty of pubs, shops and places to eat.

This place is beautiful if you don't mind the walk from top to bottom you and your kids will love it and the best thing I liked an harbour at the bottom. If you watch Love it or list it , it shows this place the harbour and some of the village and again beautiful.

I popped into the shop whilst my kids were painting pots with my husband. Such a lovely space to be inspired by. Had a chat with a gentleman, purchased a lego kit that his grandson had collated and was selling and two postcards that were photographs of a murial that local children had painted of the harbour.

Nestled in the charming village of Woolsery, The Farmers Arms is a hidden gem along North Devon's stunning coastline that beckons travelers to take a delightful detour. This contemporary pub, housed in a beautifully restored Grade II listed building, offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying seasonal dishes crafted by Executive Chef Ian Webber.
We are in Devon on holiday. Previous guests at the cottage recommended this pub. It did not disappoint. The place itself is decorated to such a high quality, including the toilets! The service was faultless, Becky served us so well, friendly and professional. The food tasted as good as it looked .. a few photos attached. Even the drinks were amazing, with their own on site made cordials! Our little dog (Ned) was also made to feel welcome. We went there to celebrate our 36th Wedding Anniversary and we had a lovely surprise when the kitchen did us such a thoughtful desert plate.. see photo. The whole experience has made it an extra special day for us. Thank you to Becky, the staff we met and to the brilliant chef and of course the team behind the scene.

A really lovely restaurant. We went for the tasting menu. The food was beautifully presented and cooked. A lot of the ingredients were from the restaurant’s farm. The timing of the service was just right, the staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. The photos show just how exceptional it was.

This is a true gastropub with as interesting a backstory as any. Concepted and opened in an old, failing pub by a son of the village who made his fortune in Silicon Valley in the USA tech industry and gave back. Menu is very serious about being unusual, and is well executed. The seasonal squash soup with lemon was exceptional in its richness. Shepherd;s Pie of hoggett, with smoked garlic mash, mint and root veg. richly satisfying. Brixham Monkfish Sandwich is huge -- an American take on a sandwich. Enough for two. Great selection of local beer and soft drinks and startlingly researched wine list. Most servers are deeply committed to the concept and enthusiastic to help. We did come across one grumpy waitress who seemed to be having what Americans would call 'a bad day'. Get seated in the garden if weather affords. This being rural Devon, dogs are mandatory.

This was our first visit to The Farmers Arms and what a lovely place. We moved to Devon just over a year ago and many of the friends we have met had recommended The Farmers Arms to us and now we know why. We were greeted by Sophie and her open smile immediately welcomed us into the establishment. The fit and finish of the decor inside the pub was excellent and felt very up market. There was a nice selection of local ales behind the bar and a well chosen wine list. The food was easily the best we have had in Devon and you can see there was a great attention to detail when creating the flavours for each dish. Knowing the ingredients were locally sourced is such a good thing helping to sustain the nearby farmers and producers. We have already booked a return visit and I am absolutely sure we will be there many many more times. Finally, each and every member of the staff we met were lovely, open, fully engaging and knowledgeable about their products and a pleasure to interact with. Thanks to each and every staff member at The Farmers Arms but a special mention must go out to Sophie and the head chef who designed the menu and put the wonderful food on the table in front of us.

We have eaten here before and thoroughly enjoyerd so decided to stay overnight on dinner , bed & breakfast package . Beautifully furnished and decorated room , fabulous bed and linens , stocked bar , coffee machine , fresh cookies . Tasting menu was delicious with dishes cleverly constructed using locally sourced ingredients. Nice wine list . Delicious hot breakfast delivered to the room to cap it all off . We will definitely return to this Devon gem . Bravo The Farmers Arms and Collective Team 👏🏻

Read that the sunday lunch here was good and we were not disappointed. This is the best Sunday lunch we have ever had. The food was out of this world, and the service was over and above. Very friendly atmosphere not only from the staff bit from the locals. When we visit Devon again, we will most definitely be booking again. I honestly cannot put in words how good this was!!
Peter S — Google review
We were excited to try this place for Sunday lunch after the reviews. Things started well with the sharing starters, which were lovely, however, the Sunday roast was a little disappointing. The cauliflower cheese took ages to arrive, half way through the course, the roast potatoes were hard and impossible to cut through. It would have been nice to have had some horseradish , mustard or apple sauce to go with the pork and beef, however, we were told afterwards we should have asked if we wanted condiments!! We may also be in a minority that prefers our beef to be a little on the medium side rather than well done.
Ruth Y — Google review
Really special place! The staff are friendly and they know the menu very well. We went with what our server recommended and we're really pleased with the choice. The food is simply delicious! You can see and taste that a lot of thought went into planning all the dishes as a lot of them are one of a kind despite being "classic". Would definitely recommend a visit!
