Great stop whilst on the NC500, a little bit off the main road and looks like you are going in the wrong direction but stick with it. Decent size carpark and about a 10 minute walk over grass to get to the ruins. No shop, no toilet and you can’t get in the ruins but very nice to see.
Arron B — Google review
Castle of Old Wick – A Quick Stop with a Nice View There’s not much left of the Castle of Old Wick these days — just a crumbling tower standing on the edge of the cliffs. You can’t actually go inside or get very close either, as access is currently closed off, so it’s more of a distant viewpoint than a proper explore. That said, the setting is pretty dramatic, with the sea stretching out behind it and cliffs all around. You can imagine that, once upon a time, it must have been a very impressive place. Now it’s more of a quick stop to take in the coastal views and stretch your legs if you're passing through the area. There’s a small car park nearby and it’s an easy walk to the viewpoint. Worth a short detour if you're in Wick, but probably not something to go out of your way for. Great views, just not much castle left to see.
Joanna B — Google review
No longer accessible on foot, blocked off for safety, but it is pretty spectacular, with views to take your breath away. The cliffs are full of birds, and though we thought we saw flying penguins, they were apparently Guillemots, but a lot of fun to watch diving off the cliffs. As far as castles go, the ruins were minimal, but it makes for a spectacular setting! Easy parking, minimal walk around the gorges to see both sides of the ruin.
Duane R — Google review
Easy parking and easy walk up to the ruins. Ruins are currently closed and cordoned off for renovation. However, it's a stunning coastal walk around the ruins with breathtaking views, a must see if in the area, highly recommend!
Aleksandrs M — Google review
After the impressive Sinclair Castle we've had some time left and came here for a quick visit. There were only a handful of other visitors that day. We knew there isn't much to see or left of the castle. But the short walk along the coast with its wonderful rock formations and the views were really worth our time. The official carpark is an easy and short walk away only and leads along the coast. The date of the castles origins are a not exactly known, but it was somewhen around the later 14th century it is assumed. The ruin sits on a spine of rock. There used to be drawbridge, which is long gone and lots of the four-storey tower has collapsed. It's currently fenced of and access denied. But you can still get nice views of the ruins - and it must have been quite the sight back then when it was still standing. Here on the coast, looking over the sea. It's not the longest thing to visit, but worth a quick look. And the scenery is just really pretty.
Alex H — Google review
It's not about the castle here, you cannot get inside or very near the castle (if you can even call it a castle now).... its all about the amazing views around the castle!!! Keep walking.... very beautiful walk on the coast! ❤️
Christie M — Google review
Old ruined castle right on the edge of cliffs. It was not accessable owing to the structure becoming dangerous.Thefe are some pretty special views to be had if you walk around the castle to the other cliff face. You will need a good head for heights and a strong stomach to stand near the edge and look down. Not for the faint hearted!!
Johnstearne68 — Google review
Pretty impressive area to see birds and the local geography. There’s not much to the castle as it’s a ruin, but if you’re in the area it’s good to see.

Old Pulteney Distillery offers a great experience for whisky lovers. The tour provides an insight into the history of the distillery and the whisky-making process. Visitors appreciate the passion and kindness of the hosts, who offer free tastings and valuable information. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, making it a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in whisky. Even without prior booking, visitors are accommodated with informative sessions and complimentary tastings of top-quality whiskeys.
The Old Pulteney has an special place in our hart. After a long drive we called for a tour and we arrived late. Non the less they gave us a personal tour around the property and teach us their entire process. After the tour we taste their incredible whisky’s and we enjoyed them all. An old distillery which breaths history …. Just go and surprise yourself with a great experience.
Karel B — Google review
A lovely tour by our wonderful guide Gordon, a perfect length introduction to the production of whisky without too much of an information dump which was appreciated. The tasting at the end is well presented and classy looking, just too strong for me unfortunately haha.
Joseph S — Google review
I don't do many reviews but I had an amazing experience here. Gordon gave a fantastic and informative tour, and Old Pultenay let you see every part of the process - not just the sanitised version other distilleries provide. 5 out of 5 and the whisky isn't bad either! Highly reccomend a visit.
Simon T — Google review
Had a great time and learned a lot about how my most beloved brand makes its single malt whisky. Funny enough, the house I stayed in at Wick had walls that matched the very bottle I bought at the distillery!
Lachezar S — Google review
We didn't do any tour, just did a tasting in the shop and visited the museum room. You can even choose from two whiskys, get them directly from the barrel, seal it with wax and write the label by yourself. Very kind and open minded staff there. Don't miss it if you are around Wick!
Gabriella — Google review
I had a great tour today! The guide George explained everything brilliantly, gave lots of interesting information and made a few jokes along the way. It wasn't easy to take in all the information, see this charming distillery (adore it might be a bit too much) and take as many photos as possible. I can look at the photos later at home with a nice dram of the excellent Old Pulteney 15 (the Huddart is probably no longer available) and remember the great time! Thank you very much!
Mandy L — Google review
An amazing experience and I would highly recommend it! This is my 4th distillery tour and there's still so much to learn and of interest. Our guide Kathy was super friendly, kind and incredibly knowledgeable. We got the £15 tour which is an hour, plus you get two drams and a free tulip glass. Having said that, you can stay as long as you want after and ask as many questions as you want so we were there for 2hrs in total!
Dee — Google review
We booked a very interesting tour of the distillery and were very impressed by the guided tour and the following tasting. We then stocked up on some exclusive whiskeys in the shop.

Caithness Seacoast Ltd offers an excellent and informative tour along the seacoast of Caithness, Scotland. The guide provides valuable insights into the local geology, sea life, and history while ensuring high safety standards. The tour includes sightings of various seabirds like puffins, seagulls, shags, gullimots, and razorbills as well as seals.
We really enjoyed our 90 min tour. When we arrived at the office, we were given a friendly greeting and asked to put on some waterproof gear over our clothes. This was super and kept us nice and toasty! Our friendly, enthusiastic tour guide was really informative. We enjoyed learning about the ecology of the cliffs, history and wildlife. We spotted lots of birds, even puffins and seals. Thanks for a great trip! 😀

Stop right now and go on a tour with these folks! We were a bit disappointed with Wick when we first arrived, so we decided to book the 90min tour on a whim. Best decision ever! From the warm and friendly welcome, this was an unforgettable experience. We saw thousands of birds, multiple caves and beautiful arches, and the beautiful ruggedness of the coastal cliffs. Following our tour, there was a notification that a pod of orca’s were spotted, so we were given the change to get back out there, which we took and we saw those amazing creatures up close. One of the best days of our holiday for sure!
Jan V — Google review
The BEST experience, absolutely not to be missed!! We were treated to the most fabulous boat tour the other day by William & Adelaine. We were so grateful for how accommodating they were, offering us a private 45 minute option with just the two of us, since no group trips were available that day. Their eager eye for wildlife & William’s superb knowledge made for the most amazing experience which will be a highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for an incredibly fun & informative activity to add to their Scottish adventure & to fully appreciate the east coast’s beauty.

Thank you for such an amazing trip along the southern coastline. Both Rob and William(?l) were excellent as tour guide and boat cox. We were lucky to have calm waters and mild weather to view the birds, seals and caves and rocky cliff lines on the cruise. At then end of the day this was fantastic value for money for the time and information given over the trip. Thankyou from Martin, Sadie and Seinna.... who both had lovely showers:)

Did the wind farm and coastal trip yesterday and cannot praise the team enough. Very friendly and efficient. My wife is a nervous traveller but they kindly sat her at the back seat of the boat (which is a tip if your the same). Both driver and guide were knowledgeable and approachable. Would go again in a heartbeat.

A fantastic experience, I highly recommend this to anyone who just wants to do something different. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, I use crutches and they were extremely helpful getting me on and off the boat. I was fascinated and could have spent the day out there, it’s definitely something I’ll be doing again. Excellent value for money and 5 stars for it all.

The Wick Heritage Museum may seem unassuming from the outside, but it holds a wealth of history and artifacts within its walls. Run entirely by volunteers, this local history museum is housed in converted cottages and workshops, offering a unique layout with different levels that showcase the fishing industry and various aspects of local life in Wick. Visitors can explore galleries of pictures and well-displayed items while learning from knowledgeable assistants who are passionate about sharing information and anecdotes about the exhibits.
Terrific museum, telling historical stories of wick life. Staff very helpful and friendly. Not a lot else in Wick, so this made the visit worthwhile.

Mharie D — Google review
Well, we did not expect this gem of a museum! Highly knowledgeable and friendly staff and a well curated collection of items. We could quite easily have spent much longer there!
Emma W — Google review
One of the best museums we have ever visited, and an afternoon well spent during our NC500 tour of northern Scotland! All exhibits are well laid out in separate little galleries and all tell an excellent story of Wick in days gone by. It was fascinating to see just how important the fishing industry was to this small port town. And then there was the highlight … Margaret! Margaret met us at the entrance and patiently explained the layout of the museum, the route we should take and what we should look out for. We dutifully followed her advice and as we toured around, Margaret would often appear out of one of the many side doors to check we were OK and give us more details about what was on show. Margaret was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic – we came to the conclusion that every museum in the UK needs a Margaret!!
Nigel H — Google review
This museum is outstanding. It is obvious that local people have put their heart into amassing the huge wealth of artifacts and information about the fascinating history of Wick. It ought to be the very first place that you visit to if you are coming to the area. I have not seen such an extensive exhibition of early photograghs that bring so many aspects of the people to life. An amazing experience.
David A — Google review
This museum is just packed with information and artifacts, history and lore. It would actually take more than one visit to be able to fully appreciate all that is on display. Be sure to allow for a good amount of time to explore this treasure!

Lovely place with nice people who work there! We were just there to hide from the rain, but it was way bigger than we thought and with lots of interesting stuff. If you're in or near Wick I would recommend.

Interesting and comprehensive, the video showing how barrels were made was a highlight for us but there's something for everyone. The volunteers were all incredibly kind and eager to share personal connections ti the exhibits. Highly recommend if you've got an hour to spare.

I had a delightful breakfast at Wicker's World, where the food was exceptionally tasty. The portions were generous and made with fresh ingredients. The black pudding and fried egg were particularly enjoyable. The cafe itself was clean and well-maintained, with prompt service from a helpful staff member who accommodated me and my child. Clean toilets were also available. Wicker's World is an ideal spot for breakfast, offering a variety of options including a delicious vegetarian breakfast.
Raining outside. Blowing outside. A great warm place to stop off for a meal. Staff friendly and service prompt. Generous meals at good prices. Atmosphere great with all tables filled and a chorus of conversation.

A bit loud for us but appreciate its a busy cafe! Had the chicken goujon wrap which was fabulous, cakes and coffees were great and just what was needed after some adventures locally in the morning. So it was a more than welcome diversion.

A good variety of fresh cakes are available with drinks, as well as breakfasts and other snack meals. A genuine, warm welcome and bright surroundings with pictures celebrating the history of Wick Harbour. A good experience.

DeVitas Pizzeria & Cafe Bar in Wick is a breath of fresh air for those seeking a delightful dining experience. The restaurant offers nut-free main dishes and sides, making it a great option for those with allergies. The pizza is described as spectacular and perfectly sized, while the minestrone soup receives high praise. The attentive and friendly staff ensure a pleasant dining experience, with quick seating even without a reservation.
Amazing food! Amazing atmosphere! One of the most beautiful experiences eating at a restaurant. When we first arrived, we had to book a table for an hour later, because the place was too busy, but the waiting was worth it! The staff were lovely and the food was incredibly delicious and at a very affordable price. We also recommend the milkshakes! The only thing that we regret is that we didn’t take any pictures :))
Maria N — Google review
This is a small restaurant with tables separated by sections making it little difficult to get in and out. The staff spoke between themselves quite loudly and it was obvious when there was a bit of a dispute. The atmosphere would be much improved if you couldn’t overhear all of their discussions when dining. The food however was great!

After reading the reviews I decided to try Devitas. So I glad I did. After being in a tent for 2 weeks with average food I was looking forward to a nice meal. The staff were attentive, friendly and anything I asked for. The food wasn’t rushed out to me and a nice amount of time between my starter, Jalapeño Toppers (yummy) and my main, Mexican Pizza, which was just the right size and also full of flavour and fresh vegetables. I had the Pinot Gris which wasn’t bad and pretty cheap. Altogether a lovely evening, thank you!
Paul S — Google review
One of the strangest restaurant experiences I’ve ever had, and would absolutely recommend going there, and would go back. We had called ahead to book a table and when we arrived were met with a rope across the door - like getting into a popular nightclub. We were shown upstairs to our table - the decor and the music was a bit kitsch but we loved it. The staff upstairs communicate via walkie - talkies which was amusing, it was like a military operation. But to be fair to them they were very efficient and attentive. The food was the stand out here, absolutely excellent - we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the bruschetta starter which was really fresh and flavourful, and both our pizzas were great too. Also very reasonably priced.
Jemma B — Google review
Me and my husband came here for dinner tonight, the food was absolutely amazing! The service too, but one of the staff there, assuming she was the boss, was very rude with her staff. One of the waitresses was being pestered by her the entire shift and it really gave off negative vibes. After this the poor waitress was visibly distressed for the rest of her shift. Besides that everything was great
Cali M — Google review
Driving through town and would have loved to have eaten here while the restaurant was completely empty but the nice lady said she couldn’t get us in for over an hour. Cosy dining area. Accommodating two hungry diners just passing through town is easy money, no possibility of the two of us lingering, taking up space. Be sure to book.
Troy B — Google review
Absolutely delicious. Second visit and will certainly go again. the carbonara was to die for. Friendly staff with a good atmosphere. definitely worth a visit I your thinking.

What a relief. After having a horrible "Medditeran experience" at Luqoom in Inverness (it was horrible Italian food), this was a breath of fresh air. Those with nut allergies will be pleased to hear that main food dishes and sides do not have nuts (not sure about deserts). The Pizza was spectacular and was the perfect size. The soup of the day was minestrone soup, and was great. The waitresses were fantastic. Be aware, at busy hours you need a reservation. Overall great restaurant in Wick.

Wick Harbour is a charming spot with a rich history and plenty of attractions to explore. The area is steeped in maritime heritage, particularly as a former fishing port and herring fishery. The marina boasts 70 berths and serves as a stop along the North Scotland Viking Trail, making it an ideal destination for sailing enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy leisurely walks, take in scenic views of the lighthouse, and even cool off in a unique swimming pool fed by mountain water.
The harbour is a lovely place to sit and watch the boats. There is a delightful cafe Whicker's World, that's does great food and gluten free carrot cake. The museum is also worth checking out. The harbour is an easy walk from the town centre

An interesting place to visit when in Wick. Ample free parking and usually something going on. It's in walking distance of the town centre and dotted around it are places to eat and drink. WICKERS world Cafe is popular, Oagies Kebabs next to Wick Laundry is popular too . On a evening there is a Fish and Chip Shop which opens at 430pm and there's an Indian Restaurant nearby. A must see during the tourist season is Wick Heritage Centre . If you are caravanning and need to do laundry Wick Launderette is open 24.hours.

Not too much to see. Nice for walking. There is a swimming pool made out of mountain water which is cool. Lighthouse is cute and there is two food places. There is a memorial chair for all the sucidial people. Shame they've lost 15 people last year. More than covid

Cycled there from Wick River Side Campsite. There is a Car Park just before the gate entrance. We pushed our bikes up to the lighthouse the land and surrounding buildings are private, the Lighthouse is operated by, The Northern Lighthouse Board. Fabulous views and nesting birds. The friendly owner came and had a chat happy for walkers and cyclists to enter the compound and Blue Badge Vehicles. All they ask is that people respect the fact that the area is a private home & garden.

I don't know if visiting the actual lighthouse innards is a thing, as never tried to access, though there are leaflets on the back of the entrance pillars. There is self-catering accomodation on-site but not sure which building. I'd visited after 5pm late September, and the little cafe at the end of the drive had just closed. View of the North sea, just popped for a view after the nearby castle.

Don't listen to websites that tell you to park at Nybster Broch car park. The castle is a long way from here and the road goes through private land. There are several barbed wire fences to cross on the way. Unfortunately some idiot has destroyed the steps over these fences. Therefore, start your journey from the harbour in Keiss, where you can park comfortably and walk to the castle along the coast, where you will also find the Small Fortresses from World War II. The castle itself is not accessible due to its poor condition.

DEFINETLY A MUST SEE!!! You can reach the castle either walking on the beach or following the path that starts in front of some wooden lodges near a small parking lot. To reach the parking lot follow the "harbour directions" on Maps, NOT directions for the castle. P.s., watch out for cow poo!
Gwen G — Google review
We parked at the Keiss Harbour and walked to the Castle. The walk was around 10-15mins but very muddy and animal poo everywhere which kind of dampened the experience. Also couldn’t get close to the Castle, but it worth seeing if you like Castles. Impressive how close to the cliff they built!

Lived the little walk to it and was very nice to see. You can't go very close, but that is alright. The view is wonderful as is
Sneezy F — Google review
Along the NC500 route, this derelict and abandoned castle is a must see. It cannot be reached directly as it is on private land (and it is quite dangerous to be honest), but you can get pretty close to it on foot. Leave your car at Keiss Harbour and follow the path alongside the coast.

Very impressive Iron Age Broch. When you read up on it, it’s not in great condition due to neglect by the archaeologists that dug it up almost a century ago, and the random small hillock it the spoil heap from their excavations. However, it’s in incredible condition for how old it is and it provides real insight into how they lived their lives. Not a lot of signage or info at the site, improvements could be made to this. Nice walk along an established path for about 500m along the cliff to get there and a good car park with plenty of spaces.

A beautiful ancient broch — it's amazing that such sophisticated settlements existed two thousand years ago. If you love brochs, must visit this place.

Stopped to walk the dog on the way to Orkney - easy access to the car park and only a 5 minute walk to the Broch along the clifftop path with some amazing views - well worth a visit if you're passing.

Great place to stop and have a walk. Couldn't recommend it enough. You can stop a little further up the road and turn down to park the car and walk along. Don't try to go directly via Google maps. It was one of the highlights of our day. Views were phenomenal.

What an amazing historical place to visit , and what a god send this place was for us . Me and two friends were wild camping round the north of Scotland , I was doing all the driving and our aim was to go to the northern tip of Scotland , I had been driving all day and knew that we wouldn’t make it to the destination on time . So we decided to try and find a spot somewhere . The problem is that We couldn’t find anywhere from the road to camp , a lot of farms and enclosed places that you can’t camp on and time was running out before the sun set . One of the guys seen this on the map and said we could go and see if it was suitable and it was . Two camper vans were in the car park and a bin was there too , so it was perfect . We pitched up camp to the right side of the monument to shelter from the wind . It was a 10 min trek from the car park to the monument but that was fine . We were very conscious that this place is an historic monument so you need to be 100% considerate ( which you should be doing anyway when wild camping in Scotland ), and what I mean by that is , no scorched earth from an open fire , no portable barbecue or anything like that , if you have any rubbish put it in a black bag and put it in the bin in the car park , make sure you leave absolutely no trace , we need to look after our country and if people abuse these kind of places then it looks terrible and it tarnishes the history , plus it spoils it for everyone else . We left absolutely no trace of us being there and we’re up early and packed away early in the morning and headed up further north . As you can see by the pictures , we had absolutely stunning views and being next to an iconic piece of history was amazing . We had a small portable fire pit with high edges so no embers would spill out and it’s sheltered from the wind , we had plenty of rubbish bags and we did not over stay our welcome . It was windy and it was cold but it was amazing . So many available places to camp have been tarnished by people that don’t care about what mess they leave . Please be respectful as we were and you should have no problems . Absolutely stunning place to visit though and definitely worth a stop or if you are in abit of trouble to find a camping spot , but will say again. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL!

Really enjoyed exploring the beach, the old ruins, and viewing the high sea cliffs from the beach. The large rocks are super slippery, so be very careful when walking across. Definitely spend some time watching the waves crash up and over the rocks as it can be quite mesmerizing. There is an old overgrown road that once was used maybe for vehicles but is obviously out of use. We traipsed through there...not my best judgement 🤣 still safe, just too much growth. There are some old winches laying about, which are also interesting to see.

Morags Café and Sweet Shop is a popular establishment that offers delicious meals and beverages throughout the day. The friendly and helpful staff provide excellent table service, ensuring a clean and tidy environment. The food is consistently prepared to high standards, with generous portion sizes at reasonable prices. Its popularity among locals indicates its quality. Operating from 9am to 4pm most days, this cafe is worth visiting for a quick cuppa or a satisfying meal.
Myself and my husband recently moved up to the area. We love this cafe. Coffee always nice and hot. Food is always well presented and tasty. Decent portions. All the staff are lovely and friendly. The cafe is in the centre of town. We will definitely be using it and will recommend too.

We visit this place for first time and our experience is a little dissappointing. We ordered steak and cheese panini. Steak in plain was very hard...hard to bite. And very cheap made for the price . But curly fries very good. The chicken burger was very poor , not fresh chicken inside just frozen process chicken fillet. And got tortila chips with which was stale. 2 food and 2 drinks come to £20. Very over price for what you get...#NC500

I can see why others gave Morags Cafe 5 star reviews, it’s the jewel of Wick High Street. It’s a café with a surprise, a sweet shop, a games room and a family eatery area. If you’re travelling with a family and looking for an inexpensive meal then this is it. The shop was empty when I first came in but within 15 minutes most tables were full. I had a lovely full breakfast and coffee. Nicely cooked and plentiful. Thank you Morag

When we went here, it wasn't too crowded, but it took a long time to get our food. My husband's hamburger was completely plain. For the price we expected at least some tomatoes and lettuce. His serving of fries cost almost as much as the hamburger and was quite skimpy. My chicken burger (Clucky) was mediocre. Seemed like something frozen that they heated up. The side of coleslaw was also small. I guess with the good reviews, we were expecting better.

Indian restaurant
I am amazed by the recent negative reviews for Spice Tandoori Wick, as my boyfriend and I had an amazing dining experience there. The dishes were bursting with flavor and the chicken was incredibly tender. The lemon rice, which was much more than just plain rice, was absolutely delicious and packed with cashews (see picture). The service was good and the prices were reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Spice Tandoori in Wick. From the moment I walked in, the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and their knowledge of the menu helped me choose the perfect dishes. The food itself was outstanding — fresh, fragrant, and full of authentic flavours. The chicken tikka was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with spice, while the naan bread was soft, fluffy, and fresh from the tandoor. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with taste. What really stood out was the attention to detail and the genuine pride the team takes in their food. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Wick, Spice Tandoori is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves high-quality Indian cuisine. I’ll definitely be back!

Lovely Chicken Tikka Masalla, excellent service, lovely rice. Came here with a few people for a sit in. Food was a bit slow, but what can be done about it? 8/10. TL;DR: Good food, bit slow to come out (or just impatient), would come here again.

We came here for dinner - would 100% recommend the honey massala & luna, my partner and I split both dishes and loved them both. My partner also really enjoyed his tandoori prawn starter, and we enjoyed the drink selection. Lovely location too.

Waited 1.5 hours for the food come to the table. There was only 3 tables occupied from the entire restaurant? Food was not good, vegetables were mushy and there wasn't much taste of spices. We waited for drinks seemed like forever. The whole experience was not good.

Gary S — Google review
The people working here absolutely went over and beyond their job titles. I live in North of Scotland and got a courtesy car from Hertz as mine is away for repair. The car I had from them was good, clean, and well maintained. Unfortunately I picked up a flat, I think the pot holes in Wick roads, I called breakdown service and they took me and car home as it was Sunday and Hertz was closed. Next morning I contacted breakdown and they took me to Hertz, they gave me another car, a lot smaller but again good, clean car. They said they would try and get a bigger one asap. I just got home when I got a very horrible phone call regarding my baby sister's health, I had to get back to Orkney right away. I had my 3 grandkids staying with us on holiday so I had to take them as well, I suddenly realized the car was no where big enough for people and luggage. I contacted Hertz to explain my dilemma and they said they are getting one in and they will have it ready in a few hours. I went up at agreed time and sure enough there was the bigger car. I have nothing but praise for Hertz in Wick and their staff. You have my gratitude and thanks.

Just popped in as I've not been here since wetherspoons thankfully abandoned the far North (their staff treatment over covid was appalling at best) thankfully under new local management the Alexander Bain looks like a good place for a drink and a bite. The food I saw looked good and there were plenty of empty plates (they were busily being cleared up too). Loo's were better, altogether cleaner too.

A REAL ALE pump, gets 5 stars for that alone. Well they have 3 but when I visited only one was in use. Ok, spoke to soon. Unfortunately they have no idea how to manage a real ale. Sent one back, as it was obviously vinegar and it had to go to the manager and then they asked what was wrong. Well smell it or taste it. So star rating reduced. I hope when you come there will be a new barrel on but who knows.

Possibly the weirdest, most diabolically run pub restaurant I've been to and I travel the uk extensively. I'm usually in Wick once or twice a month and each time we pop in for a nice lunch and a drink or 2. This time we walked in and you have to be seated (which is new), was seated fairly quickly and then ignored for sometime so we left. This is not the type of establishment which should be run as a "table service" restaurant, the dining area is too big, the staff numbers are too small (hence some diners audibly feeling ignored), the food is not good enough for the wait and its quite something when so many drinks and items of food are out of stock. Tourists feel its a let down and locals are baffled by the tone deaf change. It's the equivalent of have table service at a weatherspoons...infact what brings in so much revenue into weatherspoons is being able to order via the app or just order & pay at the bar in your own time. Management clearly either have very limited experience in running a restaurant, dont understand their locality or just dont care about this part of their portfolio. The staff to their credit are trying their best but this place lacks real leadership (notice I said leadership and not dictatorship). Absolutely shocking.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A Near-Death Dining Experience… But in a Good Way I popped in for food today fully expecting the usual — sticky menus, suspicious stains, and maybe a light stabbing for dessert. But holy hell, someone’s clearly kidnapped the old staff and replaced them with actual professionals. First shocker: we were greeted at the door. By a human. They even showed us to our seat without swearing at us. Second shocker: the floor was clean. I mean, actually clean. No blood. No sorry Wickers lying drunk in the corner. I almost left to double-check I was in the right building. Menus arrived without bite marks. Drinks order taken without a grunt. We ordered haggis balls and tattie skins, which turned up hot, fresh, and on clean plates. At this point I started scanning for hidden cameras. Then came the main: a steak that was, against all odds, a real steak. No mystery meat, no weird sauce pretending to hide the truth. Just steak, chips, and joy. It tasted great, we demolished our plates, and I even paid without crying. Cheap as chips (literally). Three hours later and I’m still alive, upright, and not bargaining with God from the bathroom floor. Whoever’s running this place now — chef, manager, or culinary wizard — keep doing whatever you’re doing. This is the first time in 15 years I’ve left here without food poisoning or a police statement. Spot on.
James B — Google review
DO NOT GO HERE! If I could give less than one star, I would. We arrived and overlooked a sign saying they would show us to a table. We sat down ourselves, as all the tables were empty and there was no staff. Then we heard a waitress ask if she should go to us, but the manager told her and the staff to ignore us because we had already sat down. We then waited for a good half hour and were ignored by the entire staff. They all stood around doing nothing. Finally, we went to the bar ourselves to ask if we could order. We were told in an irritated tone that they hadn't acknowledged us and were deliberately ignoring us because we hadn't waited. Don't go here.

We were staying in wick whist travelling the nc500, very few eateries open, firstly we were sat away from the other people eating, felt a bit uncomfortable, was it as we were clearly tourists. Food was dreadful, I asked to swap my chips to mash which came out as packet mash and such a small portion my grandchildren would sneer their noses up! Salad was very wilted and rocket and half a cherry tomatoes, hardly a salad. Staff very nice and regularly checked on us, we didn't complain as we needed to eat but wouldn't recommend and wouldn't return! Husband had katsu chicken ,chicken breast was a solid lump, clearly reheated, just don't bother going

I am not impressed with steak, but desert is delightful. The cute part is the chef come to you ask if is okey🫰🏻.

Accidentally find the restaurant…by the water! Of course ;) but their food even surprise you more! Amicable servants, decent meal, nice ambiance…fabulous, even for the pre-dinner bread with the starters! The day before was my birthday, this experience made me feel like a celebration once again. Highly recommended, the snail, the lamb chop the Marseille fish soup and the meat-paste too! Especially even the complimentary mashed potatoes which comes with the main dish was good. For the next time I will try the Burgundy beef. Thanks for giving me such a good time.

Very friendly staff without doubt but... food prevails. Meals are promising but lacking taste and are not quite properly seasoned. It's just a few details that can be fixed easily but unfortunately we've found it below average for the price.
Armand R — Google review
Simple French place, we waited 25 minutes to order, the menu looks great. The chef makes very clear to not make any adjustment to the plates, no sauce on the side for example or “You will get the bread with the starters” This must be the best restaurant in town, because they act very entitled..... we ordered snails and the entrecôte and I have to say it was pretty good. The sauce was excellent and it comes with the best potatoes. At the end, it was totally worth it! The Chef came out at the end and make sure our food was great!

Friendly staff and fun trying new foods. I tried the frogs legs and the pheasant. My daughter ordered the only kids menu option which was pizza. Sadly the kids pizza was a cheap frozen, overcooked pizza. Maybe Bord De'Leau could at least get the Chicago town microwave pizzas if they want to make a profit still?
Kay — Google review
Excellent French restaurant. Ambience perfect, good choice of food which was delicious. Staff friendly. French chef came out briefly to check the customers' food was to their liking, which was a really lovely touch. Maybe a bit pricey, but for us it is more of a special occasion place. We were on holiday at the time, so we will definitely return when next in the area. Would highly recommend.
Joan M — Google review
Frankly the food was very disappointing. The meals were overcooked and either dry or rubbery. The flavours were washed out with too much salt. The desserts had been cross-contaminated with seafood, and were terrible. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, cannot recommend - if dining in Wick, you should avoid this restaurant.

If you're on the lookout for a delightful Chinese takeaway experience, Lucky 888 is definitely worth your time. This charming spot in Wick offers an impressive menu where most dishes are reasonably priced between £7 and £9, including chips or rice. Diners rave about the consistently hot and flavorful food, making it a go-to choice for many locals. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that every visit feels special.
Great food, very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Food was 10/10 as always, normally call ahead with an order but last night just popped in at spare of moment, food didn't take long to be ready.

Absolutely banging. Ignore the other bad reviews, this place is one of the most terrific places in Wick. Last time I was here, service was standard. Take your order, make you wait, give you the food. Same as. Got home, ribs were incredible. Kind of rubbery, but I'm not complaining. Rice was very hot, almost burnt myself! Very nice, chips are one of the staples here. Overall, 10/10, would get takeaway here again.

We ordered a takeaway from Lucky 888 on one of our nights in Wick this week and it did not disappoint! One of the best Chinese takeaways we’ve had! The man working there was so friendly and the food was lovely. Decent value for money also as all the mains come with rice/chips. We had salt & pepper chips, chicken foo yung, beef in black bean, chicken fried rice & Cantonese sweet & sour chicken and they were all really tasty and good quality. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in Wick and want an easy tea!

Very nice chicken satay, loads of prawn crackers. We had the salt and chilli chips too, though they lacked taste. We would still go back, clean shop and the staff were on the ball

Really good Chinese. I got spare ribs with no sauce and duck curry and they were worth it . This is a good takeaway with friendly service. The flavours were spot on . Recommend trying this place if you have a munch on . Will be back .

Bar
Camps Bar is a charming guesthouse located in Wick, making it an ideal stop for those traveling the NC500 route. Despite initial reservations about the exterior, guests were pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality they received upon entering. The friendly and welcoming staff, particularly Vicky and host Callum, made them feel right at home. The comfortable and clean rooms provided a peaceful night's sleep, while Callum's enthusiasm for the surrounding area added to the overall experience.
Nice little place. Cozy. Very friendly staff. Thursday nights are £6 Curry Club from 530 - 830p. Wish we would have known as it smells amazing!
Lynn M — Google review
My partner and I stayed here during our NC500 trip. It was reasonably priced, easy to find, and had all the amenities we needed. We had a double room with a private bathroom. The place itself looks dated and in need of renovation, but the room was clean and comfy. Thankfully, the bar wasn't open the night we stayed, so we had a restful sleep. My only nit pick is that the private bathroom was accessed by walking through a landing where other guests could go, meaning you couldn't just nip to the loo in the night without putting something on, and for me (who sleeps completely naked) that meant fumbling around in the dark so I could put a top on so I didn't wake my partner.
Alexandra B — Google review
Popped in for a drink and ended up staying all night. Great atmosphere and very friendly people. Definitely worth a visit.
Kevin W — Google review
No stars The good reviews must surely be fake. The place stinks of damp Its dirty and old, damp and miserable Windows filthy and in desperate need of repair everything is old and dated. The bedding was thin and well worn A mucky grey blanket on the bed. Yuk. Toilet dirty and yellow smelled awful smelly pubes all over. The smell of the stair carpet make me feel ill We did not stay. We booked in near by and had a clean and spotless room We had already decided if no other hotel available we would sleep in the car Do yourself a favour and skip this hotel its grotty and unpleasant. We booked it as a cheap and cheerful. Our mistake.
Jane R — Google review
Super friendly and very clean. We loved it.
Steve B — Google review
Very unwelcoming, the lay out of the seats was very antisocial. We were snapped at for putting the fairy lights decoration on and informed they were only to be used if wanting more drinks. (We were not informed of this). The other booth had a television going yet we were never offered for ours to go on. The Decor had recently been done in black and grey which didn’t help with the cold reception we were met with. There was no mood or atmosphere so we drank our drinks and left.
Scoops X — Google review
Probably the worst bar I have been in. Arrived at 8.30, it had only opened at 8 and it was freezing. Sent the first two pints of Tennants back as they were awful. Was told they only open at weekends so suspect the pints had been lying in the system for a week. The replacements were just as bad. Couldn't drink them. To be honest. I'd give it a miss.
Ian M — Google review
I stayed in one of the bedrooms for the weekend and personally wouldn't recommend it. The bar itself closes at 1am so you're invited to disrupted sleep if you had things to attend to early morning. While you're the only one who had access to the bathroom, I don't like having to leave my room and walk across a communal area to get to my bathroom. The staff was nice. The facilities in the room could be improved, there wasn't much space to put my bags/clothes on.

Wick Memorial Garden

Memorial park
Wick Memorial Garden is a poignant and meaningful place that commemorates the lives lost during World War II. It is located near the Wick Heritage Museum and serves as a link to the Black Stairs, where a tragic bombing raid took the lives of schoolchildren. The garden also holds significance in connection to Lowry's painting of the Black Stairs. Visitors can take a moment to reflect on the history and pay their respects while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this memorial garden.
The Wick Memorial Garden was lovely to sit in for 10 mins rest. The house in the garden seems ancient and is a lovely backdrop. The garden is a memorial to those who lost their lives during a World War 2 air raid. Wry sad to read about. The connection to the Lowry paintings were a surprise and made for an interesting read. Well worth a few minutes.

Poignant memorial garden which links the Heritage Centre with the Black Stairs and tells the story of the bombing raid which killed schoolchildren during WW2. There’s also the story of Lowry’s painting of the Black Stairs. Visit the Heritage Centre, then climb the stairs to Argyll Square- a perfect Telford Georgian square, and walk round to Huddart Street to Old Pulteney distillery

Do Not Use this Doctors! After ringing through (on a midwife’s recommendation) with a positive test result for a two week old baby at 11:30am we were fobbed off to ring back at 16:30 to check the prescription has been sent though to the Pharmacy! This didn’t happen and was made to feel like the positive test result was a minor thing. If this is the care given to a two week old baby I dread to think what happens with others!

Restaurant
The Printers Rest, a charming establishment situated on the East Coast of Scotland, may not immediately catch your attention but is certainly worth a visit. What sets this restaurant apart is its impressive selection of vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free options on the menu - a rarity in many eateries, particularly in remote locations. The amiable staff provided excellent service, with the chef even offering personalized recommendations, which was a delightful touch. The cuisine itself was delectable and the ambiance welcoming.
Such a lovely couple (?) that runs this place. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing. I got the Pasta with Pesto Trapanese (was expecting green pesto, it was not LOL). Also loved the garlic bread as a starter.
Samuel — Google review
Based on prior reviews, my wife and I were excited to get a table for two as a walk-in and were expecting a fantastic meal. But it turned out to be the most bizarre and even comical dining experience of our lives. Many items on the menu sounded fabulous. We picked out three: bread, an app and a main. When the front of the house/server/owner came to take our order, he said the bread and aubergine app were available but the main wasn’t. He said everything else on the menu was available. But, strangely, the next two mains we requested weren’t available either. So we settled on a different main (rabbit), then drank the wine we brought with us while we waited for our food. It took about an hour for our food to arrive and it happened to be the main. When we reminded him that we hadn’t received the bread or app, he looked surprised (even though he was the only server) and headed back to the kitchen to check on it. So we proceeded to eat our main and wait on the bread and app. Thirty minutes later, after we’d finished the main, he returned to pick up our plates and asked us if we wanted anything else. We reminded him that we’d still never received our bread and app, then he chuckled sort of and proceeded to tell us the kitchen was out of both. No real explanation, no apology, no offer to make it right, no nothing…other than to ask us if we wanted anything else. We probably should’ve ended it right there, but we were still hungry, it was late, and there wasn’t much else open in Wick so we asked him what other mains were available. Not many as it turned out, but we settled on the shrimp pasta, which took another 30-45 min to arrive at our table. While we waited, we laughed about what had transpired and wondered how this restaurant had a 4.7 Google rating and if he’d do anything to make it right, like offer us a dessert on the house, waive the per person corking fee, or not add the automatic 12.5 % service fee…but, on par with the rest of the evening, none of that occurred. The food we were served was okay. Considering the price, we expected much better, but that’s subjective. What’s not subjective was the service, which was without question the worst we’ve ever encountered. This all could’ve been avoided with just the slightest bit of communication when we were seated re what items the kitchen was already out of, like most well-run restaurants do. But, unfortunately, that didn’t happen so diners beware unless you want to take your chances.

We stopped by this gem on a Monday night while traveling, and it was exactly what we needed. The food is made fresh, with most dishes prepared from scratch by the chef - so while there's a short wait, it’s completely worth it for the quality you get. As someone who is both gluten-free and vegan, I was blown away by how accommodating they were to my dietary needs. I had a mixed salad and pasta dishes that were absolutely incredible - fresh, flavourful, and ‘homemade’ style. My family, who don’t have any dietary restrictions, also loved every single bite of their meals. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and our waiter was upbeat, bubbly, and genuinely added to the great experience. It felt like enjoying a wholesome, homemade meal with great company. Highly recommend!

It's fantastic to have this sort of cuisine available locally. All food is homemade and so fresh. The non alcoholic lager was particularly good and great to have that option available.

Visited here for dinner. The food was amazing, freshly prepared and bursting with flavours, very well prepared and presented. This is hearty fare with lots of stews and pizza. The service was unobtrusive and considerate. They are BYO (which is unusual in the UK), so bring along your own wine. Greatly enjoyed, and would strongly recommend.

Great place for dinner in Wick! The menu features a number of interesting Maltese specialties as well as pretty standard Italian food. The trucker's pasta was delicious although the mushroom pasta was a little under-seasoned. The garlic flatbread was great! Service was extremely friendly and helpful, and food arrived quite quickly.

This was the best food on the NC500, amazing staff and extremely dog friendly. Would definitely recommend to everyone going through Wick. The chef even baked the bread fresh to order!! Ten out of ten, will be returning to Wick next year just for this restaurant. Definitely order the fresh lemonade, it was delicious and so fun!!

We went for dinner and have tried Maltese food before. My husband and I ordered the following dishes.. heartland bread that they make was awesome, Pulpetti (meatballs in a tomato sauce) with pasta and Brajoli (beef dish) with a wine tomato sauce and pasta. Both dishes were delicious..would definitely go here again. They had a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend. If your traveling through, give it a try. Unfortunately we were in Wick only 1 night, otherwise we would again for dinner.

Bombay Spice offers a wide variety of Indian dishes, pizzas, and kebabs. They also have a small European menu. Customers can enjoy prompt delivery through third-party apps like FOOD HUB. The food is consistently delicious and arrives hot and plentiful. Even fussy eaters have found the food to be satisfying, with ample leftovers for the next day's breakfast.
Ordered one chicken biryani and one bombay special pizza, biryani was good but the pizza was the best i had in long long time, it was spicy and full with enough toppings, it was collection order they weren’t busy so order was ready in 15 minutes, staff was very friendly and they charge you £1.20 extra for sauce. We will come back again for sure.

Couldn’t possibly comment on the food here, the queue must have been 60 people long and I had to simply give up after 40 minutes of waiting and pop home for a chip butty before hitting the town again. The smell of the food coming off the customers who were leaving actually made me so angry and jealous that I unfortunately got into and lost a totally unnecessary fight outside harpers bar later that night.

I know I've gave a 5 for everything but the food was still lovely the staff was really fast and the smell of the restaurant would make you drool but we ordered a tomato and cheese pizza it came we thought it was tomato and cheese but when we tried it it was cheese and korma sauce which do not go together I'm not being mean this place was lovely and kind but just for my experience will still go back

I remember we came to our rented apartment vey late, nothing except this and one place was open near by. I would not suggest anyone going there, pizza that I have ordered( we took it to apartment and ate there, as much as we ate, because it’s ended up in bin), had been quite blunt in taste, and quite soggy, aftertaste was like cartoon box. The place itself looked very filthy. I was too tired to look around at first, but once we ordered me and my kids sat down waiting, and then I looked around and understood that it was too late to go elsewhere because food was paid and already being made. For speed I would give them 5 stars. After food was made I asked what sauce we will get with pizza. The boy inside asked what sauce we want, I asked if we can get garlic mayonnaise. He gave us small plastic container and asked £1 for it. So if you are ready to throw your money for something that will end up in bin, go ahead. That was my personal experience with this place.

I am in food trade from over a decade. We do eat out very regularly. I don't like to give negative feedback about takeaway's but today i experienced the worst food of my life. We bought two pizza's. Family pizza was very very very very bloody spicy. It burned us in and out. I don't really understand how this pizza chef actually made it this spicy and who on the earth can eat and digest it. I request manager to look into spice issue.
