Malfa in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Malfa, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Malfa, on the Aeolian island of Salina, offers a quieter alternative to better-known Mediterranean hotspots, with whitewashed houses set between terraced hillsides and the sea. Visitors come for clear swimming coves, views of nearby islands like Stromboli and Panarea, and sunsets over the Tyrrhenian Sea. The village sits amid vineyards and caper fields, and local restaurants highlight Malvasia dessert wine and island produce. Its small size and limited development make it appealing to travelers seeking a relaxed, low-key base for exploring the Aeolian archipelago.
With favorites like Punto panoramico di Pollara, A' Lumeredda, and Hotel Signum, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like A' Lumeredda and Hotel Signum so you can get the best taste of Malfa while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Spiaggia dello Scario is a unique and secluded beach located just five minutes from the center of Malfa. Accessible by stairs along the cliff, this special beach features an expansive cove with smooth, light-colored pebble rocks that can be uncomfortable to relax on without an inflatable mattress. The beach bar offers these mattresses for rent, creating a scene where visitors appear like sea lions lounging on the shore.
Everyone look like sea lions washed up on the beach 🦭 This one of the most special beach I’ve been. It’s a secluded beach you access by stairs along the cliff. The pebble rocks here are so big, that it’s almost impossible to get comfortable on a beach chair, so the beach bar relied on big air mattresses. This is why I say everyone look like sea lions. You get even bring those into the sea. It’s difficult to get into the water without shoes, but not impossible. I would say like my wife, you will not get out gracefully 😙. The bar serve drinks and antipasto. They rent the mattresses for 5 euros each. Plenty of shades in the afternoon on one side of the beach.

It’s absolutely baking on those rocks. Defo get a bed and also get an umbrella. You will not cope without
Jared — Google review
Stunning beach. An absolute dream in the late afternoon / early evening once the sun's rays soften and cloaks the beach in a light that reminds you of a warm childhood memory. That being said, the beach is made up of very large rocks and there is no sand. Bring water shoes. You can rent an air mattress to lay on.
Patikan — Google review
Steep walk down to this very small and secluded beach. Some of the larger rocks I’ve ever seen on a beach so try snd walk on the wood planks if you can. Inflatable beds for rent to lounge. The water is so clean and the views are stunning. Small simple sandwich place at the top of the beach is great for a bite and beer.
Ben B — Google review
Beautiful beach. Access is not for the lighthearted, but if you are looking for a good walk to get your uphill steps in, this is the place. Large round lava rocks can be difficult to navigate, but worth it. The water is amazing.
Christine G — Google review
The spiaggia dello scario belongs to one of the the Must for nature and swimming 🏊 lovers. If you are lucky and you have a low waves day it is like swimming in an open natural pool. The water is crystal clear. The far out you swim the deeper the blue. Due to the vulcanic base the ground drops quickly from 1m to about 10m depth. If the sun is at highest point the beams of the sun lighten even then onto the ground. As usual in nature you are able to see a lot of sea inhabitants 🐠 🦀 The beach is a stone beach and therefore the water is very clear. On the other hand the stones may get very hot during the day and the access to the sea is more difficult but is still possible barefoot. I recommend to go until the water with shoes and go in the water barefoot. You can rent some water mattresses as well as sun umbrellas. The bar Maracaraibo serves food and drinks in a great quality, some veggies even from the own garden. The staff is highly polite and nice. They are eco friendly and try to reduce plastic wherever possible. Also the beach is clean. I can only recommend this beach for being one of the most beautiful spots of Salina for swimming and relaxing.
Steve L — Google review
Although very beautiful.. for those who are not fit or steady on their feet you might want to stay up at the beach hut and have lunch and a beer. Water is beautiful but was quite rough when I was there. The rock beach is hard to navigate - you must get a blow up bed as these small boulders are not made for lounging.. once you make it in the water not easy to get out with the little boulders. Thank goodness for friends who gave me a steadying hand .. staff is lovely sorting out my deflating air bed .. don’t miss seeing the beautiful water and rocks but think about your abilities if you are wanting a day of lounging and dipping in the sea.

It's the most beautiful beach we have seen in Eolian islands, best place for snorkeling, just remember to have the reef shoes

The winery Fenech offers a delightful and distinctive tasting experience. The food served alongside the tastings is fresh and delicious. They provide a variety of wines, including white, red, and sweet options, as well as grappa and an exceptional limoncello. It is recommended to visit this winery despite its temporary closure indicated on the website; simply give them a call. The arrangement of island delicacies paired with their wines creates a memorable experience filled with stories and history.
Francisco was the best! The tasting included many glasses of wine, a salad, tastings of pesto and a sun dried tomato paste and lots of bread and cheeses. It was an amazing time. I’d recommend this to anyone in the area. The view is especially great during sunset! Be sure to meet Antonio, the golden retriever that you’ll find on the roof.
Michelle B — Google review
The 1 star and even 3 star reviews are completely wrong. The staff is very nice with great conversations. Mr Fenech has a bubbly personality and pours generous tastings. They served a salad from 100% homegrown and organic ingredients, tasty bread with caper pesto, more toast and olives, sweet breadsticks with sesame seeds, 5 wines and 4 hard alcohols. By the end of the tasting we were exuberant... in fact it is hard to type this review right now because I am still feeling good. He explained his life story and the history of the Fenech family, he is an endless bundle of joy and his coworker can translate to english if needed. Additionally they had wifi and a bathroom. For americans or people of first world countries, this wine tasting may seem ill prepared or disorganized but as a Californian, I LOVED this winery and wine tasting and would rather have this than any "high caliber" tasting I am used to. PLEASE come here and talk to mr Fenech even if you dont pay for a tasting or buy a bottle.

Amazing experience, 4 wines, limoncello, vermouth with lots of appetizers for a fair price and very good service. Francesco, is a fantastic host, we didn’t feel rushed at all. I highly recommend
Ricky W — Google review
Well, what a whirlwind of an experience, but an amazing one at that! We were looking for in town wine tasting in Malfa, saw Fenech on the map, and decided to give it a go. We got there and noticed a tour in progress, so we stepped to the side so we could ask a question about doing a tasting. Well the heavens opened up and dropped all the rain it had on us. Francesco was kind enough to bring us inside with the tour group. After they finished their questions about the wine making process and the wines in general, they sat down for a multi course meal while the wines were being tasted. Being the amazing host he is, it was insisted that we join. As the rain poured down, we ended up having an amazing time tasting delicious wine, eating delicious homemade food (the focaccia might have been the best and lightest I've had) with local ingredients, and sharing much laughter due to Francesco's story telling and good humor. I highly recommend stopping by Fenech for some wine if you're in Malfa, just be sure to call and make an appointment first!!!
Chris S — Google review
Couldn’t recommend enough. We walked into Fenech at 8pm for a sunset drink and were welcomed by Francesco for a sunset tasting despite not having a reservation. My partner and I were spoilt for the entire tasting, served regional produce and beautiful wines - our favourite was the Perciato Rosso di Sicilia. Beautiful backdrop, amazing wines and some of the best hospitality we have ever experienced. Will be recommending to everyone heading to Salina!
Bethan H — Google review
The perfect end for a perfect day on Salina. We had a look on Google Maps about the vineyards in Malfa and we thought this could be a good choice. We said that we wanted to taste some wines and what we got was beyond expectations. High quality wines, lots of great local food and a host who loves what he is doing. This is no fancy wine place, this is true passion for great local produce and that’s what it’s all about.
BNY — Google review
Such a wonderful & unique tasting experience!!! The food paired with the tasting was fresh & so tasty! We had full glasses of white & red wines, sweet wine, grappa and the best limoncello I’ve ever tasted!!! We took a scooter back the next day to buy wine to watch the sun set in pollara the next day as well as Limoncello to take back to Canada!! Delicious!!
Raquel M — Google review
This place is amazing! We had 4 unlimited wine tastings, and several harder liquor tastings, plus lots of food. The cost was modest. Anywhere else would have charged much more. Only wish I had bought some grappa to take home with me (along with the other stuff I bought).

The MUSEO EOLIANO DELL'EMIGRAZIONE is a captivating museum that offers an opportunity to explore a significant chapter in Elyos history. The knowledgeable and engaging guide provides valuable insights into the migrations from the Aeolian Islands, making the visit interesting and informative. The museum also offers free admission and even gifts visitors with a book, enhancing their experience.
Thank you very much for the committed and competent guided tour through the museo eoleano dell'emigrazione. We experienced and learned a lot. The emphatic knowledge about this part of the history of the Eolie connects in the heart with the people who live here. Thank you very much, Ella and Giacchino

Really cool museum (more like a house hidden amongst the others) to find out more about the emigration of Aeolian Italian’s to US/Argentina/Australia. Not the most exciting part of history, but still a fascinating dynamic that one doesn’t hear everyday. Was in a rush for the bus so didn’t catch everything sadly. Got a guidebook as a souvenir too to remember my stay in Malfa!
Ron M — Google review
This may seem a small museum, and out of the way with little information. But it is a must visit on the isle of Salina if you are at all interested in history or have any Aeolian heritage. Elena is a fantastic guide, immensely knowledgeable and receptive to any questions you may have. I have an Aeolian heritage and learned far more in my hour spent here than any online resource or historian back home in Melbourne. Superb.
Matthew M — Google review
Wonderful local museum illustrating the development of Salina as a wine producer, the migration of Salinians during the boom years, and then following the crash as disease decimated vines and the economy. Loving curated by committed local amateur historians and the generous material culture donations of Salina families. This isn't to be missed. Do it!
D L — Google review
We were recommended to do a guided tour by our hotel, who arranged a tour with the very knowledgeable Elena, who guided us around the exhibits with many interesting stories. The visit explains some of the recent history of Salina and the Aeolian islands and in particular the links with Australia and the US. There is no cost but a donation post-visit is very welcome. They have recently added an interactive exhibit which we found a fantastic addition. Highly recommended.
Alan H — Google review
We recommend and had an excellent serendipitous tour in English from Elena, who was thankfully responsive to a weekend WhatsApp message, extremely knowledgeable and sensitive to the questions and experiences of both the immigrants of which she spoke and us, the descendants of the immigrants. She shed light on fascinating artifacts and the real history of the mass legal movement of people from the Eolian Islands, and I was able to better understand family stories. A very meaningful visit for us. Important work, not taught in my schools, for all people on a recurring and complex historical and yet timely subject. Thank you, Elena and team for a wonderful visit. Don’t hesitate to reach out for a tour.
Rosemary D — Google review
What a inspiring time at the museum enlighting with the background of great immigration from Aeolian Islands. Very knowledgeable host (Elena) let us understand why, how, when thousands of Aeolians migrated all around the world looking for new places to live. Highly recommend visiting this place with at least 1 hour to look and listen to the stories of Aeolians and their quest for better live.

Wonderful little museum that portrays the history of Salina and other Eolian islands through migration movements caused by economic crisis on the islands. It‘s 100% worth to take the guided tour, since the guide is very knowleagable and transports the historical events in a captivating way.

Forget the expensive bars that boast about their great views. Instead, bring your own drinks and snacks to the Punto panoramico di Pollara. This incredible viewpoint offers an unparalleled vista of the impressive mountain on the island, as well as a breathtaking sunset directly into the ocean near Filicudi island. From here, you can admire Alicudi, Filicudi, Stromboli, Panarea, and the enchanting village of Pollara.
The best view on the island! A must go. Gets busier closer to sunset but before 6:30pm we had the decking viewing area all to ourselves. There was still a decent amount of decking/ space around the viewpoint. Bit tricky to get to via public transport and we got the bus and had to walk uphill through a trail for 40 minutes - which was an experience in itself, walk back to malfa was all downhill and easy.

Stunning view on Pollera and Malfa from this belvedere.

Ditch the over priced cocktail bars that claim to have the best views and bring your own drinks and snacks here instead. Behind you is the most impressive mountain on the island and below is Pollara. You have the most stunning and unobstructed view of the sun setting directly into the ocean near Filicudi island. After the sunset it's only a 10 minute drive to Malfa centre. 100% recommend.

Marvelous (Original) Panorama mozzafiato da vedere soprattutto al tramonto ma anche durante la giornata. Ha un potere quasi magico guardando sia il mare che il meraviglioso paesino di Pollara. Seafood restaurant
A' Lumeredda is a charming dining spot that truly captures the essence of Italian cuisine. With its delightful al fresco setting, it offers a romantic atmosphere perfect for any occasion. Guests rave about the fresh and flavorful local antipasti, particularly the vibrant vegetables that stand out as some of the best in Italy. The seafood dishes, especially the vongole and grilled king prawns, are must-tries that leave diners craving more.
Its a simple casual dining place. I do not understand what is the bad review all about, i know i been there twice, Alessandro could even remember us! He was very friendly very nice!. We had vongole twice on different occassions n it was fantastic! Best vongole i had ever eaten! It was just tasty, delicious. The must order main would be the GRILLED KING PRAWN.. i can eat the prawns n vongole everyday n not get sick of it.. i miss their tasty pasta n prawns when i leave the place.

Ate both a lunch and a dinner here while staying on Salina, and enjoyed both meals so much...I only got one photo of the food. Had caper salad both meals, pizza, Pasta al Norma, and Spaghetti alla Vongole. All were excellent, well prepared and presented. Caper salad is the BOMB! Get it! Service was attentive, and the covered outdoor patio was perfect. In the evening a gentleman played the accordian--Italian classics and popular American tunes. Charming.
D L — Google review
This place looks very old fashioned but don’t let that be deceiving. they are serving food at a very high level, perhaps amongst the best on the island. The food is classical Italian, seafood focus with excellent ingredients. The pastas are cooked to perfection, the stuffed grilled squid was wonderful and the grilled fish was well judged - sea bass not to be missed. The food is incredibly satisfying and very reasonable price for the quality.
Tom T — Google review
It’s a real pity I didn’t have another stomach to savour more of what this lovely restaurant had to offer! Delicious food, great service (v romantic), and relaxing al fresco atmosphere. While the fish & pasta were great, the ultimate gem was the local antipasti of local vegetables. Never have I had such fresh, fragrant, flavourful vegetables in all of Italia. Their homegrown Malvasia delle Lipari is sublime too. Top it all off, they had a talented pianist serenade us with his melodic accordion. Told myself I’ll leave after the next song, ended up staying for several hours just enjoying his music. It might not be 1-star Michelin like Signum, but I’ll definitely be here when I’m back in Malfa

This is a lovely restaurant up a narrow side street in Malfa. It comprises of a very large outdoor area with some tables completely in the open and others under a covered area. There are many plants and nicely decorated columns making for a nice ambience. Adding to the ambience is an accordionist who plays a mixture of contemporary and Italian music. We had great fun trying to guess the names of the tunes. 😀 The menu is good, offering a range of pasta, meat and fish dishes as well as pizzas. The Anti Pasta dish of Arinchi was lovely. We enjoyed our choices of Breaded Chicken and Swordfish. The homemade Tiramasu was delicious. 😋 We were served superbly by Alessandro who served all the other tables virtually on his own. At the end of our enjoyable dinner we were treated to a complementary glass of Malvasia wine. Note that you have to pay at the bar. Recommend.
Neil B — Google review
Lovely restaurant, nice atmosphere (especially when live music is on). Main courses (pasta in particular) are delicious. Some of the side dishes not so good - green salad was just iceberg lettuce for example.

A charming place with fabulous high-quality culinary choices in a beautiful setting. Alessandro provided excellent service and made the whole experience truly memorable and authentic. Definitely worth the short walk off the main strip! You won't regret it.
Brett W — Google review
I was trying to find somewhere for dinner for our first night in Malfa and stumbled across this lovely restaurant. We walked over an hour after opening and we were seated immediately. It had been raining earlier so everyone was seated in the covered area, but I'm sure the rest of the patio is great on days with better weather. The patrons seemed like a general mix of tourists and locals as the night went on. Let's get to the food, it was amazing and very reasonably priced. We took a gamble and decided to treat ourselves a bit (hence our tab probably higher than most others), but everything we ordered was sooo delicious. The marinated anchovies, the octopus, the seafood pasta, the sea bass (special of the night), and tiramisu. We definitely left there happy and full. We haven't left yet and may be going back before we do! Definitely would recommend! (Again, the price per person I listed was because we ordered a lot, you could easily dine two people for well under 50€)

Hotel Signum is a luxurious property located in Malfa, on the island of Salina. Surrounded by lush vegetation and overlooking the crystal-clear blue sea, this hotel offers a serene and relaxed atmosphere for travelers. The elegant simplicity of the materials used in its construction, such as stone, lime walls, and porcelain, adds to its charm. Guests can enjoy breathtaking sunsets from the splendid terrace that overlooks Stromboli and Panarea.
We were so impressed by Signum on our most recent trip to Salina. Whilst we weren’t staying at the Hotel, we had the opportunity to visit the bar/restaurant a handful of times. We found the staff to be incredibly warm and generous, making us feel right at home. We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Josephina and Raffael for their kindness, for taking the time to share stories about the wines and the history of the islands, and for being so thoughtful and welcoming — especially with our little ones. The food was delicious, and locally sourced which is a huge plus! We can’t wait to come back and actually stay at the hotel next time. Grazie!

Food was good. However, I asked the server if we can get two glasses of wine. He did not ask me what kind of wine I wanted and said he will be right back. At the end of the night my bill came and turns out he charged me €98 per glass of wine. We had a total of 2 glasses. My meal alone was €500. The server took advantage of us and that's not right. I will not recommend this restaurant strictly because the server.

We had the tasting menu. The setting is very nice and the food was fine but not up to the standard of Michelin star experiences elsewhere and certainly not worth the 600€ for 2 people. Probably the poorest meal in 5 nights in Malfi.

Beautiful hotel, situated in one of Salinas most perfect villages. We visited off-season which was perfect - Lots of space to relax in tranquil spots dotted about the grounds. The staff were fantastic, very welcoming; the rooms have a relaxed feel; the food was very good (small recommendation: would prefer a more extensive wine list). High calibre touch throughout the hotel.

Very negative experience in the bistrot section of the restaurant. The restaurant is split in two sections. Both sections are managed by Michelin star rated Chef. We ordered two glasses of wine, and appetizer, and two meals. The appetizer arrived 30 minutes later and the l bread and wine was not delivered until after. In fact, we had to inquire about the wine and waited for another 10 minutes. Unfortunately, this was not the end of the problems. We waited for another 90 minutes until we had to go and ask about the meal. During the wait time, the waiter never stop by to talk to us. The waiter apologized explaining that they are very busy tonight. This was Tuesday night and the restaurant was 50% empty. The waiter apologize multiple times, but there was no good explanation and every other table was also waiting for the meal for the extended period of time. Eventually, the meal arrived. It tasted good and it was consistent with the bistro style. The prices, however, were very high (not bistrot prices): The average appetizer was €25-€30 and an average main corse was about €38. An average bottle of wine was above €80 including local wines. We paid €148 for one appetizer. Two main courses and 2 glasses of local wine. At this price levels, the service offered was completely unacceptable, shameful, and undeserving. There was absolutely no reason why the bistro section of the restaurant was let down entirely. I can only imagine how people felt if they chose this restaurant for a special occasion. At the table next to us people got tired of waiting and left without their meal. They were clearly very disappointed as well. If you are considering this restaurant for your memorable meal, please look somewhere else. If you are considering to go for the Michelin star section of this restaurant, I would not go there either unless you like this type of service.

We just stayed 4 nights at the hotel and our experience is quite mixed. The location and atmosphere is truly stunning, the charm is truly unmatched and those views from sunrise to sunset are unforgettable. However as expressed by many comments we were disappointed by two aspects mainly : The service to the hotel guests: to give a concrete example, on the first night after a full day trip to reach the Island we asked if we could eat at the bistrot as we wanted to lay back and stay at the hotel, the first answer we got is we are fully booked, we said that we did not know we had to book in advance for the bistrot as asked if as a guest there could be anything they could do (second service, arrange a table for us) and nothing was offered, we pushed and ask them to find a solution for us and we came back one hour later to find out that nothing was done during that time, I asked to speak to another member of staff and that person was much more helpful and suggested to put an additional table for us and worst case to put us inside which was of course fine for us (in the end we were able to dine in the stunning outside area). As a guest who just arrived this is really overwhelming and we expected much more care. I would also concur with other comments regarding the bistro, disappointing dishes and overpriced. However we had the best experience at the Michelin star, we took the tasting menu and all the dishes were fantastic and the service (although a bit too rigid at times) was flawless. For me it is at a level of a two stars Michelin, a must try. Regarding the breakfast, the 25€ price is definitely worth it as it includes all the menu dishes with amazing pancakes. My wife had some treatments at the spa and she loved it too. To summarize, with some improvements for service to the hotel guests and to the bistrot, Signum will be perfect

The ristorante "gourmet" 1 start michelin was very dissapointed. For starters they required you to order either the degustation menu (7,9, 12) or minimum 2 plates per person. We decided to got 2 plates per person, we were 5. All our appetizers were served cold, we returned them because it uneatable, who wants to neat a tortellini di galling cold!, the second plate was a mix, the rabbit was very dried, the pork it was good. The service was not good, not for 1 star or any star. We waited and waited for our food for more than 30 min, while they push for wine. Last but not leats extremely expensive, even for michelin star restaurant. So I will not recommend it and I will not come back. Oh BTW the restaurant is part of a hotel and it is located in the reception so people walk around your tables in pajamas, with their luggage, no need to elaborate on that.

Bar & grill
The bar and grill Irish Cafè offers delicious cuisine, with a slight preference for the fritto di mare from malvasia. The limone granite served with beer provides a refreshing twist. The spaghetti con vongole is also highly recommended. Although the service may be a bit slow, this could be due to the lunchtime rush. Additionally, the square where the cafè is located boasts beautiful surroundings, allowing patrons to enjoy their coffee while observing people passing by.
My friends and I had the most amazing night here! I wish I got our waitresses name as she was amazing. She had the best recommendations. Our amazing tasting meal turned into a beautiful night of dancing and live music. Would definitely recommend for dinner.

My husband wanted a small lunch- We went in and asked for some simple veggies at lunch counter- they made us a small plate of some caponata and grilled zucchini heated in the microwave. This was fine- not great, but not bad. I had a small granita and an espresso. We went to pay and they charged us 30 euro. We have had small snacks like this all over Sicily and we have never felt so taken advantage of. The woman at the counter was not kind- seemed to really hate tourists. Really sucked.

Rude waitress that seemed annoyed we were trying to order food. You will likely have better luck if you speak Italian, seemed to have disdain for us only speaking English. One dish was not delivered and had to be reordered. Water never came to the table. When it came time to pay, they refused to believe the water never came. They additionally attempted to charge extra for one particular dish. Check your bill carefully before paying. Upside is that the quality of the food is generally high.

This is a nice restaurant at the bottom of the main street of Via Umberto I in Malfa. Oddly, its main name is simply Irish Cafe! A notable feature is the two trees growing out of the main, outdoor table area! It's near the square (Piazza Rosa dei Venti) where there may be live music on your evening visit, as we were. The menu is good, offering a range of anti pasta, pasta dishes and pizzas. There's is also a good choice of wines and other drinks. We started our dinner with lovely Octopus and Potato Salad and enjoyed our main choices of Linguine with Amber Fish and Linguine with Clams. This was rounded off with a delicious Cassata and a glass of Malvasia dessert wine. Service was warm and friendly. Something to note is that you have to pay at the bar Recommend.

First of all, Irish caffe, IN SALINA 3406.6 kilometres away from Ireland!? Secondly, I ordered STILL water and I received fizzy water. This is incredibly disappointing as it is not very difficult to see the difference of fizzy water from still water. Thirdly of all I do not see the lovely sea. It is blocked by a bloody ugly house. It is next to a road so I feel I have smoked at least 2 cigarettes by sitting here for 30 mins. I am currently shaking my head in disappointment but I won’t show any photos because of digital footprints. Bad regards, Sir Carl freeman

Good food. I slightly preferred the fritto di mare from malvasia but it's close. Here I had my first limone granite with beer, like a fancy shandy. The pasta, spaghetti con vongole was very good. Service was good, if a bit slow. That's probably because we arrived just before noon.

The 'new' restaurant called 'La Rosa dei Venti' is basically managed by the same owners of the Irish pub. Just consider that it's one of the very few restaurants in Malfa which is open for lunch! Very politely we asked inside whether we could sit outside (considering the still hot weather in September) and get some food. We waited for somebody to bring us the menu for at least 15 minutes, after the waitress was serving (very slowly) the other (very few) guests. After we went inside reminding them we were waiting outside, we finally got the menu, but after that we continued waiting for somebody to take our order for at least other 10 minutes. Nothing happened despite if another reminder! At the end we stood up leaving that disgraceful place very disappointed and with the clear perception they were ignoring us on purpose. It was lunch time (roughly 1:00 pm). The restaurant license should be immediately taken them away! Definitely to be avoided!

La Locanda del Postino

La Locanda del Postino is a charming hotel located in Leni, the most agricultural municipality on the island. The owner, Francesca Cincotta, personally prepares breakfast using locally sourced ingredients from her family's orchard. The hotel offers functional rooms with balconies and a cozy dining experience featuring homemade jams and citrus-infused pastries. Named after Troisi's film, some of its ten rooms overlook the spectacular ancient crater of Pollara in Malfa.
Wonderful restaurant in beautiful location of Pollara. Aperitivo with an incredible sunset. The dinner was amazing with high quality local products. The staff was super friendly, professional and gave great recommandation on the food and wine. Do not forget to try the dolci which were the best I ever tried with a creative version of cassata siciliana and a mousse with candied cappers!! We hope to comeback one day in this special place. Grazie mille!

I loved this place and will come back; I wish I could give it 5.5 or 6 stars. The family that runs it and their staff are wonderful. They are very hospitable, keep a very clean, beautiful property, and even have a great restaurant (and offer an aperitif for the sunset). I went for one night and stayed an additional three, so I stayed in two separate rooms. Both were gorgeous and had great bathrooms - large, clean, and beautifully tiled. The bathroom was not an afterthought, like some hotels. Both rooms also had nice balconies with great views, hammocks, and lounge chairs. The hotel is a short walk to the "Il Postino" house (a film) and the walkway down to the cove/former fishing village. (The walkway to the water has been redone; they did a great job with stone and cement). The hotel and area have spectacular views. I cannot say enough positive words about the hotel, staff, and location. All the pictures I've added were taken from the property.

This place is special to us — we’re coming back for a 2nd time. Pollara is far away from “civilization” — life here is still lived the way it was 40–50 years ago. There isn’t a single shop and only a couple of restaurants, one of which is located at the Locanda. Locanda itself, however, is reachable by public bus from the Santa Marina port, which is a good news. The rooms are decorated in the typical Aeolian style and equipped with air conditioning and a mini-fridge. The free cold still or mineral water refill is available throughout your stay, a great plus. But the real highlight is the hammocks and the sunset view framed by a huge palm tree! The room rate includes a wonderful breakfast with both sweet and savory options, including homemade jams (especially the lemon one!), pies and cookies baked by the owner’s daughter. We also had dinner at the restaurant — the food was excellent, but the portions seemed unjustifiably small (and without sides), which made the high prices (€15–17 for starters and €22–26 for mains) feel quite steep. The walk to the beach takes about 15 minutes — don’t forget your water shoes and snorkeling gear! You’ll be rewarded with stunningly clear turquoise water and lots of beautiful fish. We visited in the first half of June, and the water temperature was perfect — 25°C! As for the “downsides”, for us it was the aperitif tables that the hosts have placed right in front of rooms 2 and 3 — once high season begins, be prepared that if you don’t occupy them, they’ll be taken by numerous tourists coming to the hotel’s restaurant for aperitifs and/or dinner (despite the presence of two grass terraces just below). Personally, we found it quite uncomfortable when one evening a loudly chatting couple was seated directly in front of our room. It really impacted our sense of privacy — something that didn’t happen 3 years ago during our first stay.

One of the most stunning places we‘ve ever been. Pollara feels like the end of the world and the Locanda is traditional, beautiful and elegant but still has a very familiar feel. We spend our honey moon there and it could not have been more perfect. The family and staff were particular accommodating and friendly! Delicious food and breathtaking views - a presto 💕

Can’t recommend this magical place enough! Beautifully authentic, the most amazing owners and staff, great food: the perfect match to the divine Pollara. Side effect: it will mark your heart and mind and you’ll want to go back.

A beautiful place indeed! the service is beyond 5 star, and that’s because of Francesco, thanks to him as he is very friendly. The food is soooooo delicious here!!! It’s the best food so far we have had, though we have been already to different places. Beautiful, and very nice people, this stay is truly a memorable for us. Thank you to all. This is a place that must to visit, and they serve delicious food that a must to partake!

We came here for a drink as we were recommended. It's a mother and son team that runs this hotel and restaurant in a lovely village with an amazing sunset terrace. The service is excellent, food amazing and would defo stay next time

Amazing hotel and staff. Very clean rooms. Stunning view over the sunset! Salina as an island is just wonderful, and Pollara (where this hotel is located) is the best place to be in my opinion. The staff, especially Francesco, are super nice and service minded. Will definitely come back to La Locanda del Postino in the future.
