Lacco Ameno in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Lacco Ameno, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Lacco Ameno is a small seaside town on the island of Ischia, known for its thermal spas fed by natural hot springs and its relaxed, village-like atmosphere. Its waterfront is marked by the distinctive “Fungo” rock, a mushroom-shaped sea stack just offshore, and several small beaches with calm, clear water. Above town, the Archaeological Museum of Pithecusae displays important ancient Greek and Roman finds from the area. With its compact center, sea views, and easy access to the rest of Ischia, it works well as a quiet base for exploring the island.
With favorites like Giardini la Mortella, Taverna Pithecusana " Da Michele", and Archaeological Museum of Pithecusa, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Le Stufe osteria & cucina and Napul' E' Di Falanga Carmine so you can get the best taste of Lacco Ameno while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Negombo is a stunning thermal park located in Lacco Ameno, Italy. The annual event held at the park brings together nurserymen, artisans, and collectors from all over Italy. Visitors can explore rare plants and indulge in gastronomic delights. Other popular thermal parks in the area include Poseidon Gardens in Forio and Castiglione Vanitello in Casamicciola.
There is only 1 hot spring coming from the ground through a pipe. The sea was cold crisp in April. I visited on Easter. The view is amazing! It was worth the long trip down, through the vegetation. This is for the public beach near Negombo (free). Mind the pictures to make your way down shorter!

Beautiful gardens with private space, very peaceful. Better suited to guests with younger members as the pools are slightly cooler. Nice places to eat and shopping opportunities. The pools are naturalistic and might be tricky for people with mobility or sight issues,(lots of unlevel steps in and out of the water) But I really wouldn't let that put you off. This place is stunning and I'd definitely recommend spending a day there.

We've been in Naples for six days. On the seventh day we rested here. Fabulous retreat. The thermal baths were divine.
Clay L — Google review
Came here on a super rainy day and it was beautiful! It is EMPTY at the beginning of October. The pools up on the cliffside were magical. Would return again! Only small downside is that if you rent a towel (8euros), to get a dry one (and it was pouring the whole time) you have to pay again. I understand but it seemed like a little bit of a cash grab since the park is already 90+ euros for two people.
Elizabeth M — Google review
Beautiful place but some disappointments. - The setting is extraordinary and without equal. The beach is perfect. It is a 20 minute And 30 Euro taxi ride from the main port. - All over Italy, water fountains are running and plentiful. Not at Negombo. Despite paying the equivalent of over $100 for 2 people, the only drinking water available is for sale. Stating hydrated after thermal baths is important, and Negombo makes you pay. - You pay the equivalent of $10 more to rent a single towel. Plus a $15 deposit on the towel that is returned to you as you give the wet towel back. But their refusal to exchange a soaking wet cold towel for a fresh dry one after you have used it all day is a surprisingly stingy element if the operation. - The squatting toilets are unpleasant and challenging for many. If management could simply address the 3 issues above (water, towels and toilets), this would be a 5 star experience.
Mark K — Google review
A brilliant thermal spa and beach place. It costs €100 for 2 adults for a full day but there’s lot a to see with many thermal pools a great beach and normal pool’s. Lots of facilities on site including toilets and changing rooms. Lockers are free but cost you a returnable €20 deposit. Your entry price includes 2 subbed 2 deck chairs and an umbrella. Towels cost to hire so bring your own. Several restaurants on site nothing too pricey. Lots of locals do it must be good. Plenty of undercover parking and in the Italian summer that’s worth it. Easy to get from Ischia Porto on a regular bus service €5 for a full day bus pass!
Mike T — Google review
This park is supposedly “kid friendly.” First there are no pools where young kids can walk around. One kid pool is 5 feet deep and other one is approx 4. I guess if your kids are 10+ then yes, but otherwise for younger kids, no. Poseidon is much better with pools for younger kids. There are good staff and very rude staff. My young son needed a toilet with a seat and there was one which the employee refused to open. Tl:dr: go to Poseidon if you have young kids. This park is not kid friendly and some staff are quite rude. If you want to go to the beach, just walk further to free beach and if you want t shade, there is free shade along the cliffs.

This is a beautiful resort. The spectacular beauty of the setting, the way all of the processes and the recreation areas are set up, the quality of the food & drinks, and the very nature of the wonderful thermal salt water pools are all terrific and enjoyable. It is a calm and enjoyable place, as it is spread out across many separate areas, yet easy to get around and enjoy the variety of settings and pools. There was nothing that I did not like about our visit. A total relaxing and amazing experience!

Spiaggia di San Montano

4.2

Beach
Spiaggia di San Montano is a stunning small beach nestled among rugged cliffs, offering rental sun beds and opportunities for swimming and sunbathing. The area holds historical significance as the promontory of Monte Vico served as an acropolis overlooking the sea, with nearby bays functioning as a commercial port and shelter for vessels. The plain of Santa Restituta allowed productive activity in the small town, while the valley of San Montano hosted a necropolis.
This is probably our favorite beach in Ischia. It’s divided into two parts: one is free, and the other has paid umbrellas and sun beds. The water is clear and not too crowded, especially in the peak season.
Oliver P — Google review
Nice beach, quiet but less clean water. But nice spot especially together with Negombo 👍🏼
Petr S — Google review
Nice beach with moderately steady slope for younger kids. There is free shade along shade if you don’t have umbrella next to cliffs. Water is clean and not rough bc in cove
Tuan P — Google review
Beach itself spreading in two parts. Arroun 70% private (you have to pay) and 30% public (for free). We used free on, they including toilets. The shade from the mountains come first on the free beach. It’s very great with kids, you need to walk little bit in the water to not feel sand under you feet. It’s very lovely. We are visiting in mid September so it’s not crowded. Recommend
Olya F — Google review
Way too expensive for such basic service. No side tables, no lockers. Umbrellas are not adjustable. Owners should invest more into the facilities, not just raise the prices
Anton G — Google review
Very nice beach. We liked it as I can’t swim but it’s shallow enough for me to be able to touch the ground with my feet quite far out. Half of it has sun loungers to rent and half of it is just free with no sun loungers etc. There’s also a small bar serving aperol spritz, beers etc. We got there via bus. It’s a bit of a walk down but not half as bad as it looks as it’s mostly some steps and then a restive flat path, so if you don’t mind a ten min walk and a short bit with steps, it’s fine to get to from the bus. We went fairly late and stayed til gone 7pm, when the water was still warm enough.
Adam P — Google review
The beach says free but actually it’s only a small area of sand where you can sit down and it’s crowded and dirty. The umbrellas are 60€ per day which is insane and you cannot even sit down on the sand because they send you away. The staff is rude and the whole beach is really not worth visiting.
Daniella K — Google review
A very nice beach in Ischia, nice water and views. Went on Saturday, not crowded even if beach it's not that big. €50 for 2 sunbeds for whole day or €25 after 2pm. There are clean showers for which you have to pay a small fee, changing rooms and clean toilets. Definitely one of the best beaches on the island if you prefer to have 'space'. Only one snack bar which is a bit pricey for what they offer.

Villa Arbusto is a place that holds a special kind of magic, evoking visceral affection and emotional memories. The villa, built in 1785 on top of a Bronze Age settlement, now houses a museum that showcases Greek pottery dating back to the late 8th century BC. Visitors can explore eight rooms filled with ancient relics, including Nestor's Cup, the oldest known kotyle vase. The museum also pays tribute to filmmaker Angelo Rizzoli and features a section dedicated to dolphins.

Italian restaurant
Le Stufe osteria & cucina offers high-quality cuisine that rivals Michelin-starred restaurants, all at affordable prices. The appetizer selection showcases a variety of delectable starters meticulously crafted with exquisite attention to detail. The Ammatriciana pasta stands out as a favorite dish, while the fish with lemon capers impresses with its freshness and perfect cooking technique. The house white wine complements the entire dining experience flawlessly.
On an island of steady culinary decline, this place proved to provide good service with acceptabily high culinary creative standards. Rooted in traditional Italian dishes, they added minor flavorful twists. The down side is getting here. Expect to bath in your own bodily thermal pool by the time you arrive. The view and decor is exceptional and the service quality is above average for a culture which prides itself in simplicity and anti pretentiousness. This is the one and only place out of many meals where the waiter took the time to explain and introduce the good dishes in depth and without it feeling rushed. A little.over priced but overall I think I'd go back as long as they rotate the menu every 6 months.

During our week in Ischia, this was by far the most memorable and delicious dinner we experienced. Every dish was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere added perfectly to the overall experience. We truly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend it.

Food was very good, especially the first dishes. If you want to try the rabbit, make sure to call at least the morning of the day of so they can reserve it for the same evening. We came for sunset and were there for about 1.5 hours. The view is beautiful.

Great view and great food❤️🇮🇹 Almost into a cliff overlooking the bay you find this place. We were not looking for a long dinner and ordered pasta with beef to share and a huge entrecôte to share as a main. And of course a Barolo Berri 2020. Superb service and our waiter fixed to dishes shared correctly, chilled the wine and were very helpful. We had to try the Tiramisu as well with some coffe. All in all - high quality food, made and served by some very nice people. We will be back for the Rabbit Stew!

This restaurant was recommended to us by the bar tender of the hotel we stayed at, and I'm so glad we went because it was my favorite meal of my entire trip. A cozy local spot overlooking Lacco Ameno and the ocean with an extremely lovely staff serving incredible food. We had the seafood appetizer platter, spaghettini with clams, and the Amberjack fish special. Everything was amazing, this is a must if you are in Ischia!

La Casa Colonica 1930 al Negombo in Lacco Ameno on the island of Ischia offers a delightful dining experience amidst the lush gardens. The restaurant boasts a vibrant patio adorned with colorful furnishings where guests can indulge in authentic traditional dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients. Whether it's for lunch or dinner, this culinary oasis provides an opportunity to savor the essence of the island through its delectable offerings.
The island atmosphere and decor is done perfectly at this restaurant. We tried the rabbit gnocchi and fresh lemon pepper fish. We personally loved the rabbit with gnocchi the most but both were good. Great spot to enjoy a leisure lunch on the island. So happy they have somewhere delicious to eat while you enjoy the park all with the warmest hospitality.

Enzo made the afternoon with my family a joyful experience at Negombo. The restaurant is situated in a tranquil area. If you start your Negombo experience from the top and work your way down, you can have a good appetite. The photos say more than my words can, but your own experience will be the best proof that you can enjoy the best Ischia has to offer by making friends with the staff. Enjoy!

La Casa Colonica is a fantastic place to eat with very friendly and accomodating service, full of good advice from Enzo. The food was delicious, the fruity wine was very refreshing and we got the most delightful Limoncello served in song to end a perfect meal - which I myself followed with a napolitan classic, O sole mio (being an operatic tenor, I had to 😄). Will definitely be back!

Great food experience inside Negombo Thermal Park. Special thanks to Enzo who was anticipating customer needs and wisely advising the special dish of the day, and to the Chef Gaby who came to explain the origin of such a creative but simple dish. See you very soon!

This is my favorite restaurant on Ischia. This was actually the second time we ate here, and it was even better than two years ago. We had the set menu, portions were generous and each of the courses had distinct flavours. We paired it with a lovely bottle of a local natural wine (Bajola). Our dinner was genuinely exciting and outpaced the other Michelin guide restaurant in the town of Forio. When we return to Ischia, returning here is a no-brainer!

We had chef’s tasting menu (4 courses and dessert,65€) - it was amazing, super innovative fish dishes. If you want a non-standard Italian dining experience, I highly recommend it. The service was also excellent- friendly, polite, with dishes coming one after the other but not too quickly. Enjoyed it a lot. You have to reserve in advance in a summer season because there aren’t so many tables and it gets full!

I'm a gardener so I'm always keen to visit a botanical garden wherever I go, but this one is truly spectacular. A mystical panoply of all types of plants from different regions. Some really special orchids and water plants. Nooks, ponds and rockeries galore. Highly recommend. You could easily spend all day there so be careful. Really good price for the wonders on offer. While the beauty and care with which the gardens have been cultivated are truly admirable, my visit was unfortunately overshadowed by the fact that smoking is permitted within the grounds. Allowing visitors to smoke in such a serene, carefully preserved natural environment is not only detrimental to the air quality and atmosphere but also deeply detracts from the experience for those who come seeking peace, beauty, and inspiration. The gardens, created over many years with such dedication and vision, deserve to be enjoyed in a setting that respects their tranquility and ecological integrity. Sadly, the presence of cigarette smoke made it difficult to fully appreciate the space and ambiance that Sir William Walton and Lady Susana Walton so lovingly brought to life. I strongly urge the Foundation to reconsider its policy on smoking within the gardens. Implementing a non-smoking rule would preserve the healthful environment, enhance the experience for all visitors, and align more closely with the spirit of harmony and reflection that La Mortella was clearly intended to embody.

Gorgeous gardens (ticket 12 €), quite large, so you will spend some time here. There is even a small cafe bar with some food right under the Greek theater (you can also find toilets here, next to the theater). We also caught the concert in the evening from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM and the ticket cost only 8 €. Fallowing the song for parking and ticket office if you are by car (around 1 km from down, another entrance by foot).

This is a must-visit-place if you visit Ischia! The place is incredible, and there's so many wonderful, beautiful and unique places. Make sure to have plenty of time, and it is a big garden and theres quite a lot of walking, paths up and down, elevations and stairs. At the very top and bottom, trees offer you a bit of shade and fresh air. The the levels in between, the sun and stairs can make it an incredibly warm experience. Make sure to bring water and something for your blood sugar if it is a very warm day. The place is relatively easy to reach by public transportation. Parking is a bit more tricky, however if you enjoy a slightly challenging drive on small roads there's a small parking lot at the very top of the garden.

If you’ve visited botanical gardens in other major cities (500,000+ population), this one won’t surprise you — it’s pleasant, but quite standard. Plan for about an hour to see everything. One important tip: there are a lot of tiger mosquitoes here. If you’re not familiar with them, look them up and make sure to bring repellent — it will make your visit much more enjoyable.

Beautiful environment, full of different plant species. 🌿 Highly recommend getting tickets for the concert they host it’s an amazing experience with incredible views! 🎶✨

A stunning set of gardens. Tranquil and inspiring. We also enjoyed an outdoor concert one evening whichbwas also a joy with all the scent from the garden mixing in with the frogs chorus from the ponds. Cant recommend more highly. Wegot there for when it opened at 9 as it was cooler and less busy.

Definitely worth the price and super nice to get some shade in there when it's super hot outside. Make sure to keep in mind the guided tour groups that might arrive on the daily around 10:30-11-30am

History Museums
The Archaeological Museum of Pithecusae is a cultural gem on Ischia, boasting exceptional findings from scientific excavations. The museum's architectural beauty provides a splendid backdrop for its Mediterranean archaeology exhibitions. The staff collaborates with universities and other museums to ensure top-notch curation. Visitors can marvel at the Cup of Nestor, an ancient treasure predating Homeric poems.
Highly informative about the pre-Grecco and Grecco colonies on the island. Wonderful pottery exhibits. In Italian and English.

Of course out of season, however maintenance is way behind on the buildings and the garden. The main gate is closed with prm access so the only access is the ramp to the parking. The ticket box upstairs is closed and downstairs not very well placed. Would skip it.

Modern marketing. Probably the smallest exhibition ever. Could provide more detail and storytelling about their very few pieces of interest.
Florian F — Google review
Lovely little museum with ancient greek pottery and sculptures, including the Cup of Nestor which dates from around 750 BC and has one of the earliest examples of writing using the greek alphabet. The museum is a former villa which has gorgeous views of the sea, mountains and town.
Frank ( — Google review
It is a museum in need of a make-over. The finds are very exciting, after all from the first ancient Greek (Euboian) colony in Italy from the beginning at the 8th century B.C. "Nestor's cup" with an early Greek inscription is here, but exhibited so you cannot see the inscription. However, I like that the exhibition goes from the earliest funds and up, and also includes geology - an important part of the island.

Punta di Monte Vico is a place where you can still feel the echoes of ancient times, with remnants like the ancient acropolis and Greek temples. The cove is described as spectacular, small, and perfect for a boat, boasting magnificent Caribbean colors. Despite its resemblance to Sardinia, it's actually located in Ischia.

Located in SantAngelo, Ristorante O' Pignattello offers breathtaking views and a delectable menu featuring a variety of seafood and pasta dishes. The restaurant boasts outstanding service and serves fresh, local catches of the day. With its Mediterranean and Neapolitan influences, as well as contemporary twists, the cuisine at Ristorante O' Pignattello is sure to satisfy any palate.
Elevated simplicity. This menu really lets local ingredients shine with the best dish on the menu being the simple tomato sauce. The service is unmatched as well. We arrived late in town after our wedding, exhausted and starving, and the MD welcomed us and kept the kitchen open a little longer so we could order something. When we returned we were treated with so much warmth and kindness. Wonderful experience

Lovely restaurant with lovely staff. We got great vegan options here, also mentioned we were on honeymoon and got a very cute congratulations from the staff. They have a separate vegan / veggie menu with some nice authentic Italian options. Really cosy comforting food.

We had a beautiful experience from start to finish. We ordered from the vegetarian/vegan menu and the food was outstanding. We've eaten a lot of pizza marinara/pomodoro pasta so it was absolutely wonderful to eat some creative vegan food here. They clearly use fresh produce, and you can taste it in the quality and simplicity of the flavours. The service is attentive and friendly, the BREAD is something we'll dream about, and the setting is gorgeous overlooking the small square. We came here after a day at Negombo, it's an easy walk; the perfect way to end the day! Big thank you to Falco for introducing us to the chef and helping us get home safely by calling a taxi. You simply must go here on your trip to Ischia.

We came in last minute when the kitchen was basically closing while we were in Ischia for our honeymoon but the staff was so accommodating! Romano the manager gave us tips about the island and the entire staff was so friendly and the food was excellent! Lobster was the best I’ve had in Italy so far and they even brought us such a cute gesture for our honeymoon. Highly recommend!

Italian restaurant
O Padrone do' Mare is a seafood restaurant that offers attentive and polite service. The portions served are generous, particularly the 'fish soup' which needs to be reserved in advance. Despite being called a soup, it's more like a plate filled with various seafood delicacies such as clams, mussels, octopus, squid, shrimp, and fish cooked together. The food is described as finger-licking good and the portion size is huge.
Stumbled upon this place in the rain after visiting Negombo, and was pleasantly surprise at the great food and good service. Recommended.

Very tasty food and friendly stuff. The atmosphere is perfect for a nice dinner, will definitely come back. Also good to mention that here you will pay 10% tip from your bill unlike other restaurants that have a fixed tip (2-4€) per person.

Honestly it could be much better. Portions were small, service not at the top as well. Pasta with crevettes with only 3 shrimps, pasta vongole was empty. Thats shame for an italian seafood restaurant. Also the waiters had some attitude towards us since we have entered the place. Maybe it was personal but dommage!

Restaurant
Taverna Pithecusana in Lacco Ameno is a hidden gem favored by locals for its exceptional pizza cooked in traditional wood-fired ovens. The pizzas are known for their perfect crusts and delicious, fresh toppings. While the location may be off the beaten path, it offers great value for high-quality food. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the cozy atmosphere adds to the overall dining experience.
We were staying at Hotel Grazia, and since this restaurant was nearby, we decided to come here for our last dinner of the holiday and we couldn’t recommend it enough. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was fantastic, there was a good selection of drinks, and the view was beautiful. I’d definitely recommend sitting outside.
Mateo M — Google review
Hidden location where locals go rather than tourists, but that’s why i like the place, very good quality for the price! Pizza is made in a stone oven with wood, typical for the area is the dough being soft rather than crunchy on the bottom (I personally always prefer a little crunch to the dough) but the toppings are really good and fresh. Requested for a custom made salad, very simple but which is of superior quality and was not a problem at all. Friendly staff! I would come back for sure!

Sandwich shop
On July 21, 2022, I visited Annunziata Forio 1936, a sandwich shop known for its delicious paninis and fries. However, the wait time was excessively long, with a thirty-minute wait for just three sandwiches. Despite this drawback, the chicken in the paninis was mouthwatering and reminiscent of homemade cooking. The portion sizes were satisfying and reasonably priced. The service was quick and friendly, accompanied by Spanish music playing in the background.
Everything was excellent. I had the burger, eggplant, mozzarella and it was excellent. My wife had the chicken, cheese, eggplant, and lettuce. It was simple but very tasty. Finally, we had some of the roasted potatoes, fried pasta/ ham ball, and the aranchino. All were very good. I would recommend. This seemed like a popular local spot. The staff was all very very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend and would return.
