Gori in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Gori, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Gori attracts visitors as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, with a dedicated museum, preserved childhood house, and Soviet-era memorials offering a stark look at 20th-century history. The town is dominated by Gori Fortress, whose hilltop ruins give wide views over the Mtkvari River valley. Nearby, the ancient rock-hewn city of Uplistsikhe showcases cave dwellings, tunnels, and early Christian structures carved into sandstone cliffs. Gori also serves as a convenient base for exploring Shida Kartli’s churches, vineyards, and rural landscapes.
With favorites like Resto-Bar Black Stars, L'avenue, and Gori Fortress, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Hotel Georgia Gold and Resto-Bar Black Stars so you can get the best taste of Gori while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Uplistsikhe is an archaeological site that contains the remains of a rock-cut town that dates back to the Iron Age. The town, consisting of caves and other structures carved into the rocky landscape, offers a unique glimpse into ancient Georgian history. It is possible to visit Uplistsikhe as part of day trips from Tbilisi, along with other nearby attractions such as Mtskheta and Gori or David Gareja Monastery.
One of the most interesting and historic places you can travel to in Georgia. This mountain-side carved town was inhabited up until around 1800. The unique culture, wine making and traditions of this place is truly one to learn about. Entry is a little pricey, 15 lari/person or 20 lari/person with a guided wine tasting. Parking is free outside the gates. I would plan at least 2-3 hours to comfortably explore this place
Fekete M — Google review
Visited this place as part of a day tour. 15 GEL entrance fee, credit cards accepted. Passed on the optional 5 extra wine extravaganza. A little more cave variety here as compared to Vardzia. Thank goodness we had a guide, as she added a lot to the experience. 👍
Jon W — Google review
A huge unique historical site to visit. We loved exploring all the caves with the children and imagining what life would have been like when it was in use. It could have been better to have some explanations on the signs.
Tom W — Google review
beautiful and unique place! The old city carved into the wall is absolutely stunning, full of charm and history. The views from the top are breathtaking, and the atmosphere feels peaceful and authentic. There’s also an option for wine tasting for an extra 5 lari — totally worth it! The staff were friendly and spoke English, which made everything easy to navigate. I came here 7 months pregnant, and while the walk up was a bit challenging, it was definitely worth the effort. Highly recommend visiting!
Ilana R — Google review
This beautiful old cave town is an incredible place to visit. The massive rocks look stunning, especially with the autumn trees providing color, but be warned: the climbing is hard and slippery.
ANTHONY A — Google review
If you're visiting Tbilisi, you can come to Uplistsikhe on a day trip. Most people spend around an hour here before moving on to another place, but you can easily stay here for half a day and have lunch at the foot of the hills. Uplistsikhe is spectacular and must be enjoyed slowly and hopefully without the big tourist hordes. Most organized tourist tours arrive around lunchtime. If you don't want the lunchtime hordes, come in the early morning or the late afternoon.

Very interesting ancient town carved into the rocks of Georgia. Incredible how big and well maintaned it is. Fascinating visit and some amazing views.

Originally only a short stop turned out longer. The cave town is bigger than expected, lot to see and discover. Beautiful views from the top. Worth the extra time spent there!

Nice and cosy caffe/restaurant where you can have various of drinks, coffee, tea and something to eat, like breakfast, lunch, dinner and sweets! It wasn’t loud or crowed. They have working WiFi. Lots of tables. Food was great, portions are big. Coffee drinkable. Can recommend!

Clean and cozy atmosphere. The service was attentive and friendly. While the cakes were beautifully presented, they were a tad too sweet for my taste.

Such a lovely place! We came for a drink and decided to stay for dinner. The menu is extensive and also has vegetarian options. I really enjoyed the bean stew with brine vegetables. The aubergine and peppers with walnuts were also delicious. The side of fries was very big and can definitely be shared with multiple people. The cafe has lovely seating area inside and semi inside. Service was fast, the staff very friendly and helpful.

If I could give them zero I would! The coffee was watery, the iced Americano and latte had no ice, even though we specifically asked for it and the service was sour and rude. We asked for the ice 3 times and it never arrived. We were the only customers mind you. When we asked for the bill and pulled out our credit card, there was a firm NO CARD....until we found the card machine on the table. I just don't understand how you could enter the hospitality industry and have such contempt for customers!

Georgian restaurant
If you find yourself in Gori, especially after a visit to the Stalin Museum, make sure to stop by Chinebuli. This charming restaurant is conveniently located just across the street and offers an extensive menu filled with delightful Georgian dishes at wallet-friendly prices. While the ambiance may initially seem a bit stark, it quickly transforms into a welcoming space as more diners arrive.
Very nice and tasty food with different options on the menu such as salads, khinkali, cutlet and bbq. Really affordable prices and located conveniently in front of the Stalin museum. I forgot my bag and the waiter came running for 5 min after me to return it, great Georgian hospitality compared to other places :)

The food was okay, not extremely delicious like what people said here. It is conveniently located in front of the Stalin museum so it’s naturally a place for tourists. What is far from acceptable is their so called service (plus they charge 10% service fee). They don’t have a multiple dishes that we would like to order, that’s fine. So we wanted to add more “dumplings”. The guy looked at us with surprise. He then asked the female waitress, he turned to us and said it will take longer and we said OK. So our first “dumplings” arrived and we waited for like 15 mins for another batch to arrive. I suspected they didn’t even place the order so I went up and asked. The waitress like was “no”. No what? And you don’t even tell your customers that the order was not placed. You just said it will take longer. Could have just told us not possible. And what if we really wanted the dumplings? Completely ridiculous. Also, they just randomly gave you “lemonade”. It’s just random soda. It’s not even lemonade. If you do not want to serve people then just make it self-serve. Don’t even try to charge service fee because there is none.
Sonia F — Google review
The food was OK, until I found a nice, long, curly hair in my soup. Service was OK, until the server wanted us to pay for the food that we couldn't eat, after realising the poor hygiene standard(s) at this restaurant. Needles to say, they didn't looked surprised when I told the server about the hair in the food. Almost felt as it is normal for them.

Very tasty food. Nice staff and very central. Anda if you have food allergies and restrictions they pay attention and support. Has WiFi too ;) Don't miss out this place when in Gori!!!

We visited this restaurant next to the Stalin Museum for lunch. Unfortunately, there were three intoxicated customers who were shouting loudly, breaking glasses and plates, and completely ruining the atmosphere. What was even more disappointing was that the management did nothing to handle the situation and didn’t even call the police to have them removed. Although the food quality was relatively good, the overall dining experience was very unpleasant due to the disruptive environment and poor management.
Amir T — Google review
Really delicious. Recommend the beans in a pot; big portion very cheap and tasty. The khinkahli were amazing with meat and 3 vegi options. Chachapuri also very tasty. Right next to the Stalin museum and very good prices. Recommend 100%
Nadia — Google review
We found this restauran in Gori Georgia. The food taste was delicious, specially khinkali with meat. We've tested khinkali in almost each region in Georgia, but we must admit this one is the best. Perfect. But unfortunately the adjarian kachapuri wasn't Expected like this. Usually Georgian put only yolk on top of it, but this one, the put whole egg on top, and not cooked enough, so it made the kachapuri looks unattempting. Sorry. Its our opinion. I don't know about others. We ate khinkali, Pork BBQ, chicken BBQ, adjarian kachapuri and caesar salad.

Specialty Museums
The Stalin Museum in Gori is a popular tourist attraction, showcasing a collection of photos, art, and memorabilia from the life of the notorious Communist Party leader. While it primarily focuses on Joseph Stalin's early years and rise to power, the museum has been criticized for its lack of balanced presentation regarding his career and deeds. Visitors can explore the halls filled with memorabilia and even see the small house where Stalin lived during his early childhood.
A place where imternational poeple.love to visit. Mainly visitors are from China, Japan, India or poeple who are wise enough to understand the work and influence of Son of Gori (place) J. Stalin. I recommend to visit to know about Joseph Stalin. Do not visit if you expect some old tank or armors of Stalin. Its just pictire museum of local boy.
Dr M — Google review
The museum has a very pleasant atmosphere and a lot of potential. However, many of the photos and artifacts lacked complete or detailed descriptions, which made it difficult to fully appreciate their historical context. With some improvements in providing more thorough explanations, this place could easily become a truly professional and outstanding museum.
Amir T — Google review
Museum is full of cool objects from Stalin’s life, however the organisation of the museum is not very easy to digest and there is not much english to read for the photos and descriptions. Plus the power went out towards the end of our tour so it was a little difficult to see some of the pictures. Overall, if you know a decent amount about Stalin and the Soviet Union then its worth a visit. Entry was 15 GEL so not too bad.
Redpanda — Google review
Visited this place as part of a day tour. 15 GEL entry fee, credit cards accepted. Thank goodness we had a live guide, as she added a lot to the experience. Obviously Stalin is not a popular figure in much of Georgia. Our guide largely echoed those sentiments.
Jon W — Google review
Very interesting museum. Birthplace of the Georgian man who became known to the world as Stalin. It is not a celebration of his life as many could expect, it does also criticise its controversial legacy. Many interesting artifacts including the bullet-proof trained Stalin used to travel around, including to the Yalta conference of 1945.

“A glimpse into history, even without stepping fully inside ✨” We visited the Stalin Museum in Gomi on a weekday and were surprised at how busy it was. Since we didn’t buy a ticket, we only explored the areas at the entrance, but even there you can already see quite a bit that gives you a taste of the museum’s historical collection. While it was crowded, it’s still an interesting stop if you’re nearby, and the fact that you can experience some parts without paying makes it accessible to everyone. – Genuine Gems Overview – ⭐ Rating: 5/5 💰 Price Paid: Free 💎 A Genuine Gem? This museum, located in Stalin's hometown, is entirely dedicated to telling the story of the communist leader. The main collection is housed in an imposing palace of Stalinist Gothic architecture and is filled with photos, documents, gifts he received, and personal items. A guided tour is highly recommended, as the context provided by the guide changes the perception of the visit, since the exhibition itself can feel like a glorification of his figure, without much critical space. In the outdoor area, you can visit the original house where Stalin lived during his childhood. It is a very small wooden cabin, which is now protected by a large stone structure, almost like a temple. Admission to the museum is paid, and they accept card payments.
Luana B — Google review
It was ok. Lots of old pictures of Stalin, a little bit about the Gulags and some personal belongings. Glad to have been, would not go back again. Most descriptions in Russia and Georgian. Free wifi. We were able to leave our suitcase at security which was nice. The building itself was architecturally interesting. His old house is being renovated so it fences off. The train carriage was my personal highlight.

Park
Gori's Stalin Park is a notable attraction that showcases various reminders of the former dictator. Situated in the city center, it features the renowned Stalin Museum, as well as other points of interest such as the war museum and an impressive relief sculpture. While the park may appear somewhat dated, it exudes a fitting ambiance for its surroundings. Although not particularly bustling with activities, it provides a pleasant environment for leisurely strolls.
Huge park area in the centre of the city. Clean and well maintained, when we visited, there was some function going on with school students dancing and music and all. Nice place for the town to spend weekends at.
Sujay S — Google review
This is a well kept nice historical place. You can know the era much better. The park is very nice, Stalin's house is very authentic and the vagon is well maintained. The museum is very rich it is well worth a visit.
Gabriella S — Google review
There is a museum dedicated to Stalin as he was born in Gori. I did not enter the museum instead spent some time in the garden and the main square about 100 metres from the museum. There is a world war time train made as a museum that is accessible with the museum ticket. The large hallway of the museum is something caught my attention and I clicked some pictures of it. Good to make Instagram reels
Indradeep R — Google review
The park is so beautiful and next to the Stalin Museum. Gori is well planned and so green city. Unfortunately, we missed close time of the Stalin Museum, so did not see inside of the museum. However, we saw Stalin's train car, his statue and his house.

“A peaceful stroll through history in the heart of Gomi ✨” Stalin Park is a small but pleasant place to walk through, especially on a warm summer day. While it’s not a large park, it makes up for it with its historical hot spots, including the Stalin Wagon and the Stalin Museum. It’s a nice way to connect the different landmarks while enjoying a relaxed stroll. – Genuine Gems Overview – ⭐ Rating: 5/5 💰 Price Paid: Free 💎 A Genuine Gem? Yes!

Stalin Park is located in front of the Joseph Stalin Museum in Gori, Georgia. This park is not only beautiful but also historically significant. There's a small house in the park where Joseph Stalin lived until he was 16 years old, before moving to Tiflis (now Tbilisi) for theological studies. The house and the museum provide a fascinating glimpse into the early life of Stalin. If you're in Gori, this park and museum are definitely worth a visit for a dose of history amidst a pleasant setting.

Nice museum. But people there responsible are not friendly at all! Unlike the printing place of Stalin in Tbilisi. It’s good to pass by, doesn’t take much time.

This is one of those dichotomies in life. Probably one of the most evil men in the 20th century. This is his birthplace home also connected to a museum which I didn’t go in. There’s also a rail car that he used to terrorize the world. When we were there the house was not open for a tour and I don’t know if you can go inside or not.

Berikoni is a restaurant known for its friendly service and reasonably priced Georgian dishes. The interior is pleasant, with separate tables providing privacy. While the standard Georgian menu offers decent khinkali, the khachapuri falls short of expectations. However, the delicious food, particularly the khinkali with potato and cheese, makes it a recommended dining spot. The comfortable ambiance and kind staff add to the overall experience at Berikoni.
I am from Washington State USA. Let me just say that if you want good service and hospitality, Misho is your guy. If I could give zero stars, I would. This was hands down one of the worst breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. We ordered two omelettes with ham, french toast, two pancakes with fruit, and drinks (teas and coffees with ice cream). Right away, we were told they don’t serve cappuccinos because they don’t even have proper coffee — only cheap instant coffee. That should’ve been the first red flag. After waiting far too long, the omelettes and french toast finally showed up. The omelettes were just okay, but the ham was strange and tasted unpleasant. The french toast was a complete disaster: made with terrible bread, hard, chewy, and simply inedible. The tea was just a basic teabag in hot water, nothing special at all. We kept waiting for the pancakes, but after 45 minutes they brought us uncooked waffles we never ordered. When we pointed out we had asked for pancakes, they casually told us they didn’t have the ingredients for them. Instead of apologizing, they still charged us for the waffles we never ordered. To top it all off, they slapped on a 10% service charge, even though the service was practically nonexistent. Between the long wait times, bad food, lack of basic menu items, incorrect orders, and being charged for things we didn’t order, this place is absolutely unacceptable. Avoid at all costs.
Isidoor B — Google review
The meat is overcooked, bbq meat has nothing more except meat on the plate. Kharcho was worst in the whole Georgia, chicken soup average. Khinkali, dough was too thin, so after picking it up it couldn't handle the meat.
Julija C — Google review
We came there for breakfast, attracted by good rating of this place on Google maps. Absolute scam!!! First of all the food took eternity to arrive, around 40 minutes for a breakfast dish. The food that arrived tasted awfully, "French toast" was just an old not bitable bread. The coffee was instant coffee with an awful taste, although it costed like a good cup of coffee in this city. On top of that 2 dishes and one coffee did not arrive within an hour. Then arrived a dish that we didn't order, when I pointed it out and asked if the correct dishes were being cooked, I was told "no". Then we asked for a check and found out that they included there the dish that wasn't ordered. On top of that they also included 10% service tip. There was no service whatsoever, the waiter took our order wrong, it took eternity to prepare basically only half of it, and we were misscharged. Never returning there ever again. Stay away from this place!!!!

I'm not sure if all previous reviews were based on the fact people ate on the terrace or not. By the time you stay inside, the experience is definitely changing a lot, and eating in small compartments sounds like having a secret lunch where you want to hide from the neighbor. Taking the atmosphere out of the equation, the type of lunch I had is definitely a canteen style and not a restaurant style. No garnish on the table, no clothes... Like in a canteen or in a pub. Service was quite fast, but there was almost nobody. But, as usual, the food was brought in an unordered manner, as soon as it was ready leaving me eating while my wife remained watching and vice versa. The taste was ok, but the famous Cutlets with mashed potatoes is nothing to be proud of. Spicy, soaked in oil and the mashed potatoes was very dry. New potatoes used for roasting, boiled sausages were extremely fatty. The only thing I appreciated was the Kharcho, the soup.
Andrea M — Google review
Worst service I have ever encountered. The service is done by teenagers who seem extremely bored to serve you. Some look high and others are agressive when they come to serve you. The table next to us had the same service and asked the waiter if he was ok, due to the lack of the quality of the service... Moreover, the plates came each with 20 minutes intervals so we didn't have the opportunity to share our meal together. The food is not bad but the service is so trash that I would definitely not recommend you to go to this "restaurant", if we can call it a restaurant.
David C — Google review
Great food, good service very reasonable price. English menu and English speaking waiters made ordering easy. Large terrace on second level has a view and even blankets if you get cool. As I know no beers from Georgia I asked to taste pale ale and they happily gave me two to sample. Nice cold beer on tap. I would go back. The eggplant with walnut and borji ( red bean soup- ask, it is not on the menu) were very good.

The hotel boasts a range of amenities including an inviting indoor pool, a lovely terrace, and well-maintained gardens where you can unwind after a day of sightseeing. We stayed here for one night during our honeymoon trip in Georgia and really enjoyed it! The staff was very kind and welcoming, and they surprised us with a beautiful fruit platter and a bottle of wine as a honeymoon gift — such a lovely gesture! The hotel is cozy and nicely decorated in an old-fashioned style. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was tasty and fresh, beautifully served. There’s also a nice, clean pool that looks great. We didn’t swim, but it seems to be heated — probably around 28–29°C — since there are swimming lessons there at certain times of the day. A really sweet place for a short and pleasant stay! 💛

Location is excellent. Rooms are decent, but lack of a fridge or a bar is very noticeable in hot summer. Pool is a bonus. Food in the restaurant is actually very good, but breakfast time had to be individually prearranged every day, which was quite inconvenient. No complaints about service.

Very rude staff. Our first experience upon entering the bathroom was the unflushed toilet of the previous guest (I won't go into details, but it was BAD). We called the reception for help, and they hung up after telling us they'd send someone over. No one came for about an hour or so. We had to call them again, and the manager came after another half an hour to "check the toilet". However, once he actually came, he refused to even go into the bathroom and told us that we'd get another room. Since we already had a bad "first impression", we politely asked the manager if he'd at least check the bathroom of the new room, which he refused. Because of our heavy luggage, we decided to stay in our room and asked for the cleaning staff to come by. Surprise, surprise, they didn't have any at that moment (it was 4pm). In the end, we had to scrub the toilet ourselves. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. That is, if you're a huge fan of Stalin (his museum is quite literally next-door). Wouldn't come here again.

Great Place to hang out in Gori. Big portions of food at an affordable price. Ordered Cutler with Potato Pasta, Pork Ojakhuri, 1 Bread and 1 L of Natural Juice, in total only 50 Lari, what a great price. Cutlet is amazing, juicy and savoury. Pork Ojakhuri is big in portion, just too much potato compared to meat, but still delicious. Bread is freshly made per order, comes in hot and moist, the only one I found during my trip in Georgia that serves hot bread. Overall, it's a great decision to choose Black star restaurant for our lunch. The Waiter is friendly and helpful giving us recommendations and service.

Excellent food, large portion and not expansive. The outdoor dining area is shaded and windy. Perfect spot for our lunch after visit to Stalin museum before heading uphill to the Gori Castle ruin at hilltop.

“A hidden garden gem where great food meets cozy vibes ✨” Resto Bar Black Stars turned out to be a lovely surprise for lunch. The restaurant has a charming garden setting, with plenty of shade under the trees that makes it a perfect spot to escape the summer heat. We ordered some khinkali, chicken, and a vegetable stew, all of which were fresh and tasty. The staff were super friendly, and the presence of a playful little kitten only added to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good Georgian food, and forget about time for a while. – Genuine Gems Overview – ⭐ Rating: 5/5 💰 Price Paid: 90 GEL 💎 A Genuine Gem? Yes!

⭐ 1 Star This was, without exaggeration, the worst burger I’ve had in over a decade. The bun was practically inedible (see video), and the overall experience left me questioning reality for a moment. I actually had to go get a “redemption burger” later that evening at another place — just to confirm that the art of making a decent burger still exists.

Very hit and miss. Ordered 3 dishes. One was great (mushroom with Georgian cheese), one was unseasoned (salad), the other too salty (soup). Place was totally empty except us. Service was friendly but a bit aloof. They tried to put music on the TV but it kept failing, so they gave up in the end.

Cafe-Restaurant Gamardjoba is a charming eatery located near the Uplistsikhe Cave, making it a convenient stop for a meal before or after exploring the caves. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, with highlights including the Chicken Salad and Pelmeni. While some items like Ojakhuri and barbeque received praise, others such as Kebab and kharcho soup were noted for potential improvement.
Really nice and airy place for a snack or even a full meal after visiting the nearby caves. Food was flavourful, drinks cold and good, the service's English was limited, but no real problem. Recommended and good value for money!

The ambience and location was really good. It's very close to the Uplistsikhe Cave and therefore ideal for lunch before/after your visit to the caves. Chicken Salad and Pelmeni were amazing. Ojakhuri and barbeque (chicken and pork) were good. Kebab and kharcho soup could improve. The host (Helen) was very friendly and treated us really well, so did the other staffs.

We had tasted many of chicken salad in many restaurant in Georgia but this place has the BEST CHICKEN SALAD. Please try, you won't regret. The waiter are teenagers with a good hospitality and personality.
Sasama R — Google review
Food was ok, but nothing special. The waiters repeatedly left the garden door open (because they are lazy to close it every time they go through) so every time it slammed in the wind, very annoying. The order of brought food was random - first a soup, then one main, then another soup, then another main, and the starter in the end. Finally, they pressured us to leave a review in Google with 5 stars, not cool.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Gori Fortress, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to George Eristavi Gori State Drama Theater. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Perched atop a rocky hill in the center of Gori, Kartli, 'Gori Fortress' offers panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Dating back to the 13th century, this historical stronghold played a significant role in medieval times as a military bastion. The fortress features stone terraces and lookout points that once served as defense against Mongol, Ottoman, and Persian invasions.
All things considered, this was a nice fortress. A bit of a hike to get up to. Some nice ruined castle grounds to explore, and lovely views of the surrounding towns. It had everything I needed but left me wanting more.
Matt B — Google review
🪜 Many steps to get to the top. Very unassuming entrance. We parked just at the bottom of the rampart. It was evening time at 6:30pm⌚ so we parked quite easily. 🇬🇪Once you climb to the top, there's no room or any such thing. It's an open space with flat ground, grass and 5 talk flagstaffs with Georgian flags on them. 🏔️ There's excellent views of the city and snow capped mountains in the distance. They can be seen on both sides of the fort. There is also a heavy duty fixed, dual eyed telescope to see the objects. 👎 🐕 🐕 There were 2 dogs at the top who seemed to be barking at any random person that came there. Scary. Showing teeth and everything. Didn't really bite anyone though. So just gotta be careful of them. Eventually they got fed up and went back to laze.
Abhinav K — Google review
The view is breathtaking from the top, apart from that nothing much to see, the fortress is in poor conditions. There were a guy (guard? didn't look like one) with two stray dogs, but they were sleeping in the shadow, probably too tired by the scorching sun to bark (I came around 2 pm in summer). The statues near the hill are much more impressive and worth a visit.
Anna M — Google review
The Gori Fortress is a semi-abandoned site that doesn’t offer much to see in terms of preserved structures or exhibitions, but it’s still worth a visit for the panoramic views of the city. Climbing up to the top gives you a great perspective over Gori and the surrounding landscape, making it a nice spot for a short stop while exploring the area. There is no entrance fee, and usually, a security guard with a couple of dogs can be found at the top. While the fortress itself may not have much left to explore, the views alone make it a worthwhile detour if you’re in Gori.
Felipe B — Google review
Nice view from the top of the fortress, which is just a short walk from the town center, but apart from that there is not much to see. Its free to enter
Fekete M — Google review
BEWARE OF ATTACK DOGS! How strange for the police to situate two German Shepherd attack/guard dogs at a tourist site like this. This is unique to this place. It does have great views and is well preserved, but one of the dogs actually nibbled my leg when I walked by and the police man on guard spoke no English. Please allow tourists to be free of dog bites at tourist sites.
Pétur G — Google review
I love castles but really not a lot to see with this one. The views of it from a distance are more impressive. Inside is simply an open space that shows just how much of the wall has been cheaply rebuilt
Neil T — Google review
Interesting place to visit but quite small and uninspiring. Not much information around and the top is a bit boring!

Modern art museum
Art House is a modern gallery and installation area operated by the Gori Photographers Club. It is situated in a unique curved structure near Gori Fortress, adjacent to the monument. In the past, it functioned as the Castle Museum under Soviet rule. The purpose of bringing a group of American students here was to offer them an alternative perspective on Gori, avoiding the typical dark tourism narrative associated with Stalin's birthplace.
Very interesting art gallery which was renovated and created by local artists. We met some of the artists when we were there and they were incredibly kind and keen on telling us about the coming to be of the place and their projects. Definitely check it out and spend some time to appreciate a great project overall!

Small gallery with one show room that holds temporary exhibitions. Very nice staff explaining the art. They also provide maps of Gori and arty postcards. Keep up the work!

I recently had the privilege of visiting an exhibition in Gori ArtHouse Gallery. What truly struck me was how the artists, Guram Tsibakashvili and Sandro Pachuashvili, reimagined the Soviet legacy through a contemporary lens. Their ingenious use of visual language breathed new life into existing images of Soviet icons, creating a striking fusion of mixed media and pop art.
Luka C — Google review
I brought a group of American students here to see a new side of Gori than the “dark tourism” narrative of Stalin’s birthplace. After looking at the wonderful show of collages by Guram Tsibakhashvili and Sandro Pachuashvili, we took in a short presentation by Ana about the space’s larger program and goals. It is so inspiring to see such initiatives in smaller communities anywhere in the world. Please come and check out their work!

Their passion and effort put into it are amazing. Definitely worth to visit and discover the truly inspiring idea behind Art House! I love this concept! Valuable experience, restoring faith in people of art! We need more places like this!

Gori Art House is a beautiful soviet era building that was saved from disrepair and turned into a special space of expression. These exhibitions that inhabit this building are quite striking. Definitely visit here if you are in Gori. It's even worth taking a detour. Lovely people and definitely go say hi and meet these creative minds.

L'avenue is a cozy and compact restaurant located near Gori, offering a variety of delicious dishes at reasonable prices. Despite its unassuming exterior, the restaurant surprises visitors with its tasty menu options, including chicken rolls, cheeseburgers, spicy Mexican potatoes, Greek salad, grilled chicken, and delectable crepe desserts. The cafe also serves excellent coffee and provides a comfortable space for medium-sized groups.
Calm and cozy place. Very friendly and welcoming staff, doing everything for the guests to make them feel comfortable. The most delicious pumpkin cream-soup I've ever tried was served by this place.

Positives: -Seating outside and inside -Comfortable seats (a few sofas) inside -A few big windows inside- can look at the view outside -Great waiter; very professional, attentive and speaks English -Great staff -Tasty iced coffees and good volume Negatives: -Waiter didn't name the drinks when he brought them over- he just gave them randomly. Because of this I had someone else's drink, and mine was given to someone -Caesar salad only had 3 chicken pieces..... It would be a lot better to increase the price a bit and add more chicken at the same time, otherwise it should just be called "lettuce salad with a hint of chicken" :/ -Squatting toilet -Only 1 toilet -Tom yam soup doesn't traditionally have noodles, but this soup did have them. Please add in the menu that the soup is with noodles. This is not a criticism necessarily, just a note -Not much seating outside Thank you nevertheless 👌❤️
Ana K — Google review
I have been to this place several times and enjoyed it every time. Their chicken rolls are delicious, and cheeseburgers are great. The crepe dessert is outstanding. They have enough space for a medium-size group of people. Overall, it is one of the nicest places in Gori with great service. However, I would recommend improving the bathroom.
Olena V — Google review
Disrespectful and unprofessional. We waited for 2 drinks, a crepe and a piece of cake 40 minutes and only got it after reminding the staff twice. After that, they had the audacity to ask for a tip, even though a service fee was already added to the bill. Not a good example of the Georgian hospitality.
Lena G — Google review
Rather slow service, food was okay. We had a salad, a soup and a Belgian waffle with coffee. It took a while until the food arrived, and by the time the waffle arrived we already finished our coffee. Except for the waffle that was notable, the food was fine but not remarkable. The inside of the place is quite dark which makes it feel a bit grim.
Johnny T — Google review
Very cozy place with a really good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. The lemonades and milkshakes are very good and I drank the best coffee I had in Georgia here.

The food was okay , nothing extraordinary. The young guy working there was super nice and the music playlist was great.

Had a pretty disappointing experience. The restaurant was completely empty, yet after ordering a simple pizza, I ended up waiting for an hour before finally giving up and leaving because I had other plans. To make things worse, the waitress didn’t speak a word of English, which was surprising considering she looked quite young. Overall, terrible service, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

War museum
The Great Patriotic War Museum in Gori, Georgia is a moving tribute to the city's involvement in WWII and the 2008 conflict with Russia. While overshadowed by the nearby Stalin Museum, it offers a poignant account of the wartime events. The museum showcases martial heroism and features exhibits related to both wars. Although not all displays have English translations, guides in other languages are available. The entrance fee is affordable, making it an accessible attraction for history enthusiasts.
The Great Patriotic War Museum 🇬🇪 Pretty moving museum that's generally overshadowed by the Stalin Museum also located in this downtown square of beautiful Gori, Georgia 🤷‍♂️ Not a lot of information in English here but you get the jist pretty quickly of just what was happening here not only in World War II but also as recent as 2008 when the Russians rolled tanks all the way down here as part of their campaign to take yet another territory forcibly away from Georgia 🙈 In this museum you can see shrapnel, grenades, and a bunch of footage from the fire fights that took place just in front of this museum's location not so long ago 🤯🤯🤯
Nate A — Google review
Costs 5 lari for tourists and 3 for locals. The museum isn’t really a museum. It’s a gallery mostly because there are tons of pictures hung and a lot of long texts. There are very few actual historical items. There are not much actual physical objects that tell the history but just printed images. The lady also kept following us and randomly saying something that is already written clearly what it is. I understand the enthusiasm but might simply ask if we need any guidance instead of randomly interfering. She would come and go and randomly pop in and say the exact same thing that is written on the wall in 3 languages that I already know.
Ekaterine ( — Google review
A moving account not only of the Great Patriotic war but also the 2008 conflict. Guides in other languages available as not everything has an English translation. 3 lari entrance fee December 2022 price. Fabulous Soviet beta has relief outside the museum free for all to see.

The George Eristavi Gori State Drama Theatre holds the distinction of being the first professional theatre in Georgia. Despite challenging times, it continued to showcase Georgian language productions, preserving the country's cultural heritage. The theatre remains a vibrant hub for performances, including an annual comedy festival and contemporary plays. With a rich history and notable actresses gracing its stage, this Soviet-era building also houses a museum chronicling its legacy.

I have not attended any plays in the theatre, but the building looks great even if in a bad shape. The park around it adds a great vibe. I wonder why Gori does not try to make a tourist attraction from the theatre? Nikala is a restaurant in Gori that offers tasty food and a friendly atmosphere. The staff is generally nice, but there were some instances of slow service and language barriers. The rooftop setting provides a nice ambiance for dining. While the music volume may be too high for some, it's still enjoyable to see locals having fun. The menu features authentic Georgian cuisine, and the house wine comes highly recommended.

The waitress ( or boss maybe ) were very friendly to explain dishes to us but she that was too pushy . We were ask if we want spicy while ordering a dish , we said yes , and we were served 2 small portions or chilli paste 😅😅 and we were charge 4 Lari each . The chicken were so tough , probably the most delicious hard chicken meat I have tasted in my life .

We stopped for lunch when travelling through Gori. The food was ok. The service was slightly slow as our Khinkali order had to be cancelled since the waiter forgot while we kept waiting. The atmosphere is nice on the rooftop. The kebab was good.

I don't recommend it. I ordered among other things, mushroom soup it was full of oil. The other traditional dishes were just tasting coriander. The salad was big pieces without any dressing or mixing. It was also not cheap.

I asked for a soup (13), the waitress recommended a (small) "Katchapuri kebab" to go along with that, and the Katchapuri kebab ended up costing more (19) than the soup. Plus 17% service fee. It ended up costing more than places in Tbilisi touristy areas. Food had decent flavor, but expensive for such small portions. I don't like those "tourist trap" type of restaurants.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Gori, make sure to visit Terrace Gori. This charming restaurant offers an enticing blend of international and traditional Georgian cuisine, all while providing stunning views of the city. Although it leans towards the pricier side, the quality of food is exceptional and will leave you pleasantly surprised—especially if you've had mixed feelings about Georgian fare before. The menu boasts a diverse selection that caters to both adults and children alike, ensuring there's something for everyone.
We ordered the following: Georgian potato French fries Greek salad Georgian salad Chicken bbq Lamb bbq Veal bbq Wine white dry Draft beee For the food it was delicious overall The Georgian potatoes are really tasty and filled with herbs The french fries are french fries 😅 The greek salad and the Georgian one are super fresh and good to the taste to start with them The chicken bbq was amazing tbh and full of flavour and super juicy The lamb and veal took a bit of time to arrive but The lamb bbq was amazing The veal was average The wine was average as for the beer it was amazing and cold

Foods take a long time to be prepared. The beef was quite stiff, the chicken was bone more than meat and the cheese was very salty. Menu is pretty wrong in terms of English translation and most dishes were not translated at all. We were taken here as part of the tour but I was not satisfied at all.
Dr. O — Google review
Nice restaurant, very delicious lamb barbecue ( highly recommended), good service. BUT, a big BUT! Smocking are allowed at the table, so the food taste of cigarettes for us.
Roth A — Google review
I recently visited the place with a tour program, and it was an experience! 😮 I definitely wouldn't have dared to go there on my own after reading all the reviews. The service I received was quite something, with a waiter who would pretend to write your order and got it all wrong plus would tell you what to eat rather than ask what you want. When i orders a barbecue with vegetables and sauce, the sauce came first after 15min the veggies then like 20min later the barbecue, all different bill BTW, and it was tasteless. When you try to explain or give feedback about the service they just ignore you and the guide who took us there defend them, because they probably work with commission. NEVER EVER GO THERE. If the tour guide takes you just order coffee, water or nothing it's worthless place.
Michael G — Google review
Worst experience ever. Tourist trap. Very very small portions and normal taste! For the price you would expect to leave full but you leave hungry and on top of that they add a 17% tax with no prior notice. Not recommended at all.

Very disappointing experience. Felt like a tourist trap. The food quality was not good overall — the pork BBQ was just okay, but the khinkali took 45 minutes to arrive. By the time they served it, our wine was almost finished, and our other order still hadn’t arrived. Service was slow and disorganized. This is the first restaurant in Georgia that truly disappointed us. Avoid this restaurant.
Caren J — Google review
If I could give zero stars, I would. My visit to The Terrace Gori was hands down the most disappointing restaurant experience I’ve ever had , not just in Georgia, but anywhere in the world. Let’s break it down: 😏😱Food Quantity: Laughable. The portions were so tiny I genuinely thought it was a joke. You leave hungrier than you came in. 🤢 Service: Disrespectful, careless, and incredibly slow. It felt like we were doing them a favor by being there. 🤑Prices: Completely unjustified. Ridiculously overpriced for the poor quality and miserable portions they serve. 😮Atmosphere: Looks nice on the outside – don’t be fooled. The energy inside is cold, unwelcoming, and far from what you'd expect. 🍒And the cherry on top? They brought the bill in Georgian only – no English, no explanation, just numbers and letters we couldn’t even read. A total lack of respect and transparency. Save your time, money, and mood skip this place🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️.
