Museum
Ecomare is a nature museum, aquarium, and seal sanctuary located in Texel. Initially established as a refuge for sick seals found in the Waddenzee, it has evolved into a comprehensive nature center dedicated to preserving and studying Texel's wildlife. The museum features exhibits on the island's development since the last ice age, its inhabitants' relationship with the sea, and large aquariums showcasing marine life from the Waddenzee and North Sea.
I went to that seal rescue center on Texel Island. The location is beautiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful. While the entry price was a bit high, I didn’t mind as I know the money goes toward feeding the animals and maintaining the protection area. Some parts were still under construction, but I enjoyed learning about sea animals’ life and exploring the aquarium.
Rith P — Google review
Ecomare was absolutely wonderful! Would highly, highly recommend a visit. This sanctuary helps rehabilitate injured and ill seals including sending sick babies back to the wild when they are better and permanently housing blind adults. Make sure to watch a seal feeding and spend some time exploring the museum, small aquarium, and outdoor areas. We took a train and ferry from Amsterdam to visit Texel and would do it again even if just to visit Ecomare!
Damian L — Google review
The main attraction is supposed to be the seals, but the aquarium in the basement was an absolute delight. Definitely recommended.
Mara K — Google review
A must stop when in Texel! We loved seeing the seals and learning more about how they rescue and rehabilitate them. There is a mix of seals who permanently live there (cannot be released back into the wild) and those who are in various different stages of rehabilitation (with the end goal of returning to the wild). We really enjoyed seeing the pups and the older seals, especially seeing them get fed. We also really liked the aquarium part as well, learning more about the North Sea and the island itself. Fish feeding and the seal feeding demonstrations were in Dutch, which we unfortunately could not understand most of, but a lot of the information cards and signs in the facility have English translation which we appreciated. It was a trip to make it out to Texel, but visiting Ecomare made it very worth it!
Eliza Y — Google review
Lovely place, they do such an amazing work helping wounded animals! We were there at 15.15 on Friday (off season) and it wasn't busy at all. We saw an afternoon show when one of the workers tell a bit about Ecomare, its function and its animals while also feeding seals. Downstairs there's also nice aquarium area where you can see some fish and plants and learn a lot. We found it more for kids but the possibility to see the sea the seals was definitely a highlight of the visit!
Magda — Google review
Very nice place to visit to see the rescued seals and appreciate the effort it take to help seals
Vita S — Google review
Nice and clean place, you can see they’re taking care of it properly. Fun activities, and happy to went on a weekday for no queue and more enjoyable environment. Interactive museum, and lovely seals. Please buy ticket upfront and give them donation (to support their service and longevity). Would recommend for a short family holiday or a date.

Strandpaviljoen Paal 17 Aan Zee is a trendy beachfront spot located on the Texel beach in De Koog. Whether it's summer or winter, this pavilion offers a delightful dining experience with a diverse menu featuring dishes made from local Texel products. The large terrace provides a beautiful view of the North Sea and hosts music festivals, making it an ideal place to enjoy delicious meals with friendly service.
Great place, amazing delicious food. The steak and paprika soup were really good. Its next to the beach. Can sit inside or outside. The wait for the table was not long at all which was great. The food took a bit long to come but it did not disappoint. But perhaps book to be sure. Also there were two charging ports for EVs at the parking.

Very tasty and good view on the sea! Nice gluten-free menu!

Second time here, but this time during the Wind Festival. There was quite a long queue to get in, since the cafe opposite was closed. Once inside though, the menu was great and the ambiance was pleasant.

Paal 17 has vegan options, but not much. The loaded chili sin carne fries were good! Good for a group with people with a mixed diet. Staff is friendly and the view is great ;)
Jerry W — Google review
I have been in the first floor with a bigger group. Wasn't expecting this class of service and food. We had a five course menue with many different platters. Everything was perfectly fresh and tasty. High quality food, nice drinks, good wines, great sunset view. 100% recommended
Jan L — Google review
Overpriced and overall not worth it. Staff was friendly but atmosphere was basic. The Long Island iced tea was not good, too sweet and did not taste good. The food was just bad. The vegan loaded fries had a guacamole and beans that tasted cold and bad. For the price, I expected better overall quality.

Cool place with delicious food 👌🏻 I loved the vibe and decoration with a nice view to the sea😍 the dishes we ordered was all amazing and special 😋 rib one was prima❤️💯

I tried both Beach Pavilion 17 and Club 17 one after the other, and both were well thought out and executed – except for the service and the food. They started out with high expectations, but then crashed in terms of food quality and staff, which is a real shame. They should plan a fresh start here in terms of personnel.

Kogerstrand

4.4
(1688)
Campground
Kogerstrand is a unique campsite located in the dunes between the village and the beach on Texel Island. The camping spots are secluded, providing a sense of privacy and tranquility. The facilities are well-maintained with clean showers and toilets. Visitors can stay in motorhomes, rent tents or cabins, or bring their own tents. Pheasants and rabbits roam freely around the area, adding to the natural ambiance.
We go here for vacation multiple times (almost every year). Always had a tent in the dunes. The toilets and showers are cleaned multiple times a day, so they are quite clean. During our last visit we saw some rats near our tent place so we did not keep any food in the tent (but we saw the rats only during our last visit and this can happen when humans leave their waste everywhere). Our children love the indoor and outdoor playgrounds and the animation. Walk to the beach is only 5 minutes.
Timo K — Google review
We are still there, bit they made us move to another camping spot because they rented out the spot we were standing on ,despite having promised us we would have it if confirmed before 11 hours. Nice people, but not taking any responsibility.
Patrick H — Google review
What a nice place to camp! Due to the camping spots being in between dune hills you get a very private feeling! Dogs are very welcome and have their own segment of the beach, which is like 5 minutes away. I would totally make vacation with my dog here again. Pricing was good and the little village near by offers everything you need. I'll be back one day ;)
J K — Google review
Amazing beach campsite, one of the best of its kind in the whole Netherlands. Helpfull, friendly staff and services at reception. Camping spots in the middle of the sand dunes, meters away from the beach, with plenty of space for everyone even in busy season and a real nature feeling.
Lucca Q — Google review
Worthless service, weren't even allowed to take a second car on the terrain for a couple of minutes to unload. People behind the desk seemed to be very young teenagers who don't know anything. Maybe educate them a bit on customer satisfaction before you let them work.
Bothered M — Google review
Excellent location with nice view to the beach and in a small lovely town, where you can find a lot of cafes and restaurants with good food. The camping lot is pretty private and quiet. We had 2 beautiful birds visited in the morning 😊 The most impressive is the super clean restrooms, the best of all the camping site I've been to. There's one problem for those who get there by bike, is that it's a bit far from the dock, and the wind is strong on the way, took us more than one hour to get there (instead of 45mins as suggested by Google map).
Van H — Google review
Second time camping here. It’s addictive even for a person who wasn’t really into camping before. 🏕️😄 They keep the public facilities as clean as possible (it’s impossible to guarantee an always clean as some people lack common sense). Dunes are beautiful. Quiet at nights. Forest at a walking distance. 🌳 Absolutely recommended.
Hatef R — Google review
I was so happy with my stay here! The place is amazing, I really like that most of the camping spots are sort of secluded from the others (by the dunes), so it really feels like you are camping in the middle of nowhere by your own. The facilities looked new and well maintained - showers and toilets were for free and super clean and fresh every time I used them (complimemts to the person taking care of them!), big plus are also plenty of hooks, shelves and benches in the shower (really smartly organized). Overall very satisfied with everything and will be back for sure!

Nationaal Park Duinen van Texel is a stunning island national park featuring a diverse landscape of sand dunes, beaches, and woodlands that can be explored by biking or hiking along designated paths and guided tours. The western coast boasts a picturesque patchwork of dune-scapes with salt fens, heath, and grass-covered dunes adorned with unique flora like the marsh orchid and sea buckthorn. This bird sanctuary area is accessible only on foot, offering an immersive natural experience.
Dunes of Texel National Park, a vast and beautiful dune area, is located on the North Holland island of Texel in the Netherlands. All dune systems on the western side of the island and the large coastal plains on both the northern and southern points of the island are part of the park. The park covers approximately 43 km2 (17 sq mi) and attained national park status in 2002. The visitor center is located in the natural history museum Ecomare. There are lots of walking trails, many of which are signposted. Some routes are not accessible during the bird breeding season. Many bicycle trails cross the park as well. Take a special walk at De Muy or De Slufter. Walk up the beach in the evening for a stroll with the sunset as a backdrop. Explore the area on foot or hire a bike, keep Texel car-free.

It is a very calming place. There are several walking paths. It's interesting to see so much vegetation growing out of sand. And there are many birds ad well.
Mateja K — Google review
The whole Island is a hub of active outdoor lifestyle. Perfect bike paths, small, typical villages, breathtaking views everywhere. Super big wide beaches and beautiful dunes landscape with ever changing colorations during the different seasons. It’s a blissful experience riding your bicycle around the Island. I love this Island!

The nationals park duinen van Texel is an amazing place to enjoy the nature and explore the outsides. You can rent a bike or simply walk; there are a lot of bike pads around, if you wasn’t to walk along the dunes, you park the bike and go. Specially recommended for families.
Flavio P — Google review
A breath into nature in between the sea and the countryside. The best place to relax and enjoy the environment
Natasha K — Google review
Amazing location! Take your time here. Go for a long hike and explore the back land and the beach. The views are amazing. Just bring proper gear as it can be really windy and there are some thorny bushes along the way. But this is the place to go when on Texel. There is a camping area right at the back of the dunes. This is the best place to stay!
Ruth G — Google review
One Word WOW! I had never heard of this area before until a local took me there. I swear we walked down this beach for hours without seeing anyone. It was almost aerie how big it was and how few people we saw. You could look in three directions and only see sand and beach. I highly recommend this beach to anyone in the area. Simply amazing.

Texel Sheep Farm is a delightful place to visit, offering a range of activities for visitors of all ages. The farm is home to numerous sheep, chickens, and Guinea pigs that can be interacted with in a petting area. Additionally, there are various amenities such as a cafe and playground equipment for children. Visitors can also enjoy an entertaining show featuring sheep dogs while learning about the intricacies of sheep farming on the island.
Large sheep farm where people can pet lambs, chickens and guinea pigs. Good merchandising. There is a bar to have coffee and cake. Easy parking, easy to reach by bike.
Michael B — Google review
This was the highlight of our weekend trip to Texel! We went in early April and were able to see newborn lambs. All the animals--the lambs, the sheep, the guinea pigs, the chickens, the goats, the pigs, and the herding dogs--seem healthy and well taken care of. We even got to see a demonstration of the sheep herding, seeing the herding dogs in action. The presentation during with the sheep herding demo was 95% in Dutch, but the presenter was kind enough to answer any questions we had in English for us, which we appreciated. As expected, there were lots of families with small children but also had plenty of adults by themselves who were enjoying the farm, making it feel less like a petting zoo. We really enjoyed our time here, being able to get super close to the animals and pet them. This experience was very well worth coming to Texel for!
Eliza Y — Google review
Epic. Loved it! My friend interpreted for me what the lady was saying during shepherding demo. She was funny and the family farm is an absolute jewel for this island. Learned more about wool also thanks to you guys. So many beautiful kinds of sheep and also a wonderful staff! I loved running into a little man named Boris running thru the puddles after his pony ride. Another kiss from heaven was running into him on the ferry back to the main island! ❤️ 😊 Thank you guys for letting us pet the sheep also. What a treat you guys are in many ways!
사랑해 — Google review
Great place to interact with sheeps and, also, to buy woollen products. To say something not so positive the ticket to get in is a bit expensive.
Javier U — Google review
My son loved the place, so many animals and small lambs. You can get very close to each lambs, sheep and other animals. The only problem ist that everybody loves the animals without knowing they are getting slaughtered within 6 to 9 months (the lambs). I asked the staff and they confirmed that it is not a life place for the animals. My son loves a black small lamb, it's hard to explain that this lamb is killed in a few months. So each year around 1000 lambs are slaughtered and the company makes on top money with the people and kids watching them living a shirt life.
Daniel F — Google review
Super fun for kids (and adults too). Sheep, goats , horses, a donkey, lots of chickens and guinea pigs .
Dimitry N — Google review
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh but not baaaahring. This animal farm is truly a farm, they have oodles of sheep, chicken and Guinea pigs. All of which can be petted without pecking or being pecked. The grounds also include a cafe and lots of toys and swings and things to exhaust your kids while you have a coffee. They also do a show with the sheep dogs and tell you about the business of raising sheep on the island. For the bravest of toddlers, you can ride a very very tiny pony. And even the adults melt when petting little lambs or holding tiny chicks. We will be baaaaaaaaaahck.
Cor C — Google review
Great place for a family visit. You can hug a brand new sheep! Attendance fee for adult is 5.50, for child - 4.50. Many kinds of sheep, in April - with lambs. We only missed cafeteria there. It is my favorite place on Texel.

Nestled just a short stroll from the vibrant center of De Koog, Strandhotel Noordzee offers an inviting escape with stunning views of the North Sea and surrounding dunes. This charming hotel embodies a cozy Dutch beach style, making it perfect for those looking to unwind by the sea. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, along with free parking right on-site. The hotel features comfortable accommodations equipped with modern amenities like showers, bathtubs, and TVs.
Lovely hotel in cozy Dutch beach style with fantastic views and great restaurant! I went with my partner for a 3-night-holiday in July 2021. A big plus is that the Corona rules have been released, therefore the restaurant area is fully open again. Parking is available for free directly at the hotel. Our room was a standard room with shower, bathtub, TV and bed (two separate mattresses, but that’s ok). I personally really like the beach style interior. The absolute highlight is the beach/sea facing balcony (see pictures). You can’t stay any closer to the beach on Texel! Room amenities include shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, bath salt, body lotions and hair dryer. A wardrobe safe is also available. Besides, the rooms and beds were absolutely clean! The breakfast and restaurant are fabulous, everything seems fun as a family business which made us feel very welcome from the beginning. The hotel advertised the Sauna and Spa area on their website. I believe you can still book beauty treatments and a massage, but caution: The Sauna facilities are out of order and probably won’t be reopened. For us this didn’t matter too much, but should be mentioned. The area around the hotel is lively with bars, restaurants and De Koog Center in close walking distance. Tip: Make use of the bike rental the Hotel offers on the website, the Service brings those bikes to your hotel and will pick them up again!
Lea S — Google review
The hotel is great and the location perfect for anyone who wants to go to the beach and enjoy the dunes. The rooms are spatious. The breakfast buffet is nice too. Directly outside three (not all) first-floor windows on the balconies are lamps to illuminate the building. They cannot be switched off and attract hords of mosquitos. You cannot sit on the balcony in the evenings and you cannot open the window for fresh air, as you would have all the mosquitos inside. And you must have the blinds closed or the room is filled with light until the lights switch off at 1am, so no fresh air either. Answer by front desk when we addressed the issue: “The lights can technically not be wired differently and while it would be nice to have a switch in every room, that can technically not be done, so you just have to live with it.” Do ask for a second-floor room or one on the first without the lamps…
Stephan ( — Google review
It was not worth the price. It was not clear when we book the room that it was a side view of the sea. When we arrived we were disappointed but we didn’t receive useful service and help. We have to stay overnight as it was and no refund. There was construction work with a lot of dust outside the window face the city and only a small side door for a little view of the sea. The next day we complained again and no solution as well. It does not worth the price.
YU L — Google review
Such a great hotel, I've been there a few times, but unfortunately will not be able to go anymore. Wanted to book 3 nights, from thursday to sunday, but new rule is that sunday night has to be inclded. Ridiculous. First they said minimum 3 nights, we have 3 nights, but as it is the weekend, sunday night has to be included. Oh well, we'll have to go somewhere else.

Decent and pricey nothing more. Pasta carbonara was served cold. When mentioned they took the plate and reheated the dish. Whit pasta that’s not a good idea result was mushy pasta.

We had Indian food. Being an Indian I will surely recommend this place. The cook has Tibetan roots. He does justice to the food. Portions are large, so be mindful. We had thali it was great 😊
Arushi B — Google review
Quite nice staffs and hotel. Highly recommend the Indian food here. They can make very authentic Indian food (can be more spicy) even though I don’t see Indian staffs there. If you like spicy food, ask for the pittig saus. Highly recommend!

Went in, asked a waiter whether I could sit in a (obviously empty?) side room for a video conference, was told to sit in main room, was - in the middle of the video conference - told by the boss that this was no conference room here. Well. I knew. Did not fit either. I understand what went wrong here - but definitely could have had a better experience.

A special fine dining experience. The combination of flavours and textures were all very delicate, a much welcome change in a country where a lot of restaurants just throw as many spices as possible in the food. The recipes were perfect to showcase the quality of the local ingredients. I would suggest to include the tartare in your menu because it is excellent.

Bistro Freya is a farm-to-table restaurant that requires reservations. It is cozy and intimate, with one friendly waiter serving all the tables. The menu, which changes regularly, is presented on a movable chalkboard, and the waiter explains each dish. While there may not be photos of the meals, the waiting time between courses is well worth it. Despite its small size, Bistro Freya has charm and attracts many regular customers when they visit Texel.
We had a fabulous dinner here last night. Such a cozy ambience and the owners go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food was perfect in every way and the price was reasonable.

It's a small restaurant but it has charm. Many regular customers visit them when they are in Texel. Decent price for the dishes, good quality and service. Not easy to book because of the space is limited, but we're lucky. The value definitely equal the price 👍👍👍

Reservation absolutely required! Don't go here if you don't have time. It's small and cozy and there is one very friendly waiter doing all the work. The menu is on a chalkboard that moves from table to table and she explained all the meals. Since the menu changes, my photos might not be what you'll have. There's a waiting time between the courses but it's absolutely worth it! I had to stop myself to take a picture.

Super friendly staff. My company tonight was vegetarian and they did not have anything on their menu, so the chef prepared a vegetarian option that made me envious, from.the looks alone. Tasted excellent as well. Bring some time as they do not rush between courses. Make sure you book a table as it can be very crowded. Their menu changes and is only available on a chalkboard. The owner took her time to translate the menu for us. If you get the opportunity, you should go there.

Restaurant de Worsteltent, situated in an old farmhouse on Smitsweg in Den Burg, offers a rustic and charming dining experience. The 400-year-old farmhouse has been transformed into a cozy restaurant with an Italian kitchen team that prepares fresh and authentic dishes. Guests can choose from a delightful menu or opt for the chef's surprise. The restaurant features beautiful indoor seating as well as a spacious garden area. Visitors can enjoy delicious pizzas and other Italian specialties while soaking up the relaxing atmosphere.
We had the Italian summer soup and mackerel salad: everything was delicious! Service is very friendly. Lovely outside space, on the grass, surrounded by trees.

The fried egg on the burger tasted quite great. But the fries (on the side) I could have done without. Also a bit surprised as you claim om your website; using fresh and local products. The fries were certainly not fresh, and moreover not very tasty. Are they local? For the price of almost twenty euros I cannot give more than three stars for this review.

Delicious food and big portions. The location is very nice and the restaurent decor as well. It is however very warm inside due to the pizza oven. The calamari portion was huge and the sauce was tasty. The pizzas are good as well.

One of the best restaurant experience we have had in the Netherlands for 3 years. Located in the heart of Tessel island in the ancient dutch building (former farm house perhaps) with straw roof with amazing garden/terrace. We were late for our reservation, administrator still managed to welcome us to the terrace. Sad we were in hurry to be in time for the ferry, otherwise would spend more time! The food is nice - full Italian focus. We took vegi sup, pizza and pasta. All went perfectly.

Day 2

West side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the west side side of town. Start the day off with Strandpaviljoen Paal 9, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Shipwreck and Beachcombing Museum Flora. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Restaurant
Strandpaviljoen Paal 9, located in Den Hoorn, is a popular spot among locals and visitors alike. The pavilion offers a relaxed atmosphere without any specific style, making it a favorite among surfers. Guests can enjoy a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, including fresh vega(n) burgers and lentil curry.
My favorite beach restaurant (and also Paal 9 Is my favorite place to go to the beach in Texel). Comfort food as well as some more sophisticated dishes you would not expect in a beach restaurant. And out of this world (real) Dutch apple pie (not the one that people call Dutch in the US and has nothing to do with The Netherlands). Try it with whipped cream And if cold outside - hot chocolate with whipped cream

Place is quite relaxing as it is close to the beach and the view is nice. Service was young and fast but the food and drinks were a little bit too expensive in price performance ratio. Small plates and drinks and not as expected. For example there was a cheesecake on top of carrot cake stated in menu for 5,70 EUR and we only received a cheesecake with buiskuit bottom (-->usual cheesecake🤷🏼). So ok in taste but not for that price. I was a little bit disappointed because the location could be more attractive if the food was more or a little bit less expensive.
Bianca H — Google review
It is a nice place for drinks & snacks but that’s it. In the evening it turns into not really working well factory where you are just one of many customers. Got my dish without dressing, fries looked like leftovers and had to go myself to the counter to pay… enjoy daytime, think twice going for dinner

The rim of the glass was partially broken and the glass was very scratched. The food was average. The tables were neglected and old. The view is beautiful, the staff is friendly.

This place is a nice place ad the beach. Super nice terras and Nice people how work there. We had dinner and watched the sundown. It was beautiful to sit on the terras and wait for the sun to go down. The food was oke. Not bad but also not super good. I had the Jamaican curry.

Avoid unless you like eating old stale and dry fish cooked with old oil! The kibbeling was truly awful & the kaas toasty tasted like cardboard. Up there with the worst food we've ever had in our lives

Great location, nicely decorated interiors and beautiful views of the beach! Overall seemed a little overpriced! Staff is nice! Some of them don’t speak English well but mostly they are friendly and try to help! Waiting time could be a little long when it’s busy. We had one of their risottos for lunch, which was fine but not the best risotto we’ve ever had!

Restaurant
Camping Loodsmansduin is a highly recommended destination for families, offering luxury chalets and various accommodation options such as fully-equipped tents, yurts, cabins, and camping pitches. Situated near the southern village of Den Hoorn on Texel island, it provides a tranquil setting with minimal noise and abundant nature sounds. The modern and clean toilet and shower facilities enhance the camping experience.
Amazing Naturalist camping in the dunes! The facilities were very clean and the location could not be better. Great hiking and biking trails throughout the campsite and rest of the island. We will be back again for sure.

We stayed in a large “de waard” tent that we rented here at loodmansduinen. Beautiful view. Super comfortable. Very clean camping. The places are big. And the camping is in the middle of the dunes. Very beautiful and highly recommended.

Loved our time at this campsite. Facilities were great and the kids loved the pool with water slide. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Bike hire on site was great - you can book in advance with Vermuelen Bikes, and it's well worth it as it's 2.5km to the beach but an easy 10 minute ride if you have a bike (and exploring the surrounding area by bike is very pleasant - I'd recommend cycling through De Dennen, a nearby forest with great cycle paths).
Matthew W — Google review
My first experience tent camping in Europe and it was fantastic! It’s a veeery quiet location with absolutely no road noise, just a bit of birdsong and wind through the treetops. Site Tureluur 34 was great for tenting, it’s wedged at the top of a dune with pines all along the back and sides. Toilet and shower facilities are modern and clean. The campground is quite close to a village for supplies, the beach is about 3 km away, the ferry dock is about 4 km, and there are plenty of other bike trails.

Clean facilities and friendly, polite staff. A bit crowded — but hey, it’s the Netherlands!
Victor N — Google review
Amazing location, facilities, cleannes, ev charges etc. The problem is to park your car. If you come with 2 cars it's not possible to enter the camping with 2 cars even if you pay for the spot and there are plenty of parkings inside. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stayed for one night. Nice and clean of course most things are closed. Not 5 stars because its expensive to stay and wasnt told there was only one toilet building open... not the little ones which we thought could be easy. More than 5 euro extra for one dog is pricey!

Voedselbos Texel, situated between Den Burg and Oudeschild, offers a delightful experience for visitors. From May to October, guests can handpick organic strawberries along with other berries and tomatoes when in season. Families particularly enjoy the opportunity to pick ripe, juicy berries amidst the beautiful natural surroundings. The site also features delectable cakes and coffee for a perfect afternoon treat after berry picking.
Food forest, pick your own fruit. Best in Summer of course. It's very large, many options like strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, apples, pears etc etc. Also a café. Good selection of ready made local jams, chips, and syrups. Some playground installations for younger kids. Even teenagers will like this.

We visited this place in the first week of August, and we were able to handpick strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. The apples, pears and grapes were of course not ready to be picked. We loved this experience so much. The girls in the reception are also really nice. We paid around 4 euros per the basket we picked (about 600g) and the entrance is free. They also have nice jams to buy. I would definitely recommend this.

I went to Voedselbos Texel with my kids, and we had a great time. The best part was picking berries. The kids loved it, and it was fun to be out in nature with them. Seeing them so happy picking ripe, juicy berries was really nice. But there was more to do at Voedselbos Texel. They had yummy cakes and coffee too. After picking berries, we treated ourselves to some delicious cakes. They were so good, especially with a cup of coffee. It was a perfect afternoon treat. The whole place had a nice vibe. Being in nature, picking berries, and relaxing in the cozy cafe made it a special day for everyone. The staff were really nice too, which added to the fun. Yes! I definitely recommend Voedselbos Texel to families, friends, or anyone looking for a fun day out. Whether you like picking berries, eating yummy cakes, or just enjoying the peaceful surroundings, you'll have a great time at this awesome place.

A perfect place to go for strawberry picking. Went to this place on June 10th and it was a perfect time for self picking due to the abundant ripe strawberries. It was the most satisfying self picking experiences I’ve ever had in NL so far.

The Shipwreck and Beachcombing Museum Flora on Texel is a captivating destination for visitors of all ages. It offers an immersive experience into the world of beachcombing, featuring a diverse range of activities and exhibits. Visitors can explore intriguing displays about shipwrecks, plane crashes, and artifacts washed ashore from around the world. The museum also boasts a playground for children to enjoy while adults can relax at the coffee shop.
Maritime and Beachcomber Museum Flora has a diversity of beach finds dating back more than 80 years. Impressive, amazing, exciting, captivating, sometimes funny, sometimes witnessing great human suffering and carelessness as far as our living environment is concerned. Everything is displayed with love and attention to detail. Discover the maritime past and present of beachcombers, shipwrecks and Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution, among others. In the various atmospheric indoor areas, various films are shown continuously alongside the exhibitions. There is a nice museum café (also tables outside, try the Jutterskoek!) and a souvenir shop which  sells small works of art made with beach finds among many other things. For children, there are treasure hunts, games and an extensive playground outside. In the outdoor area, shipwrecks - including a rescue capsule that may be entered - and other large wrecks and wreckage are displayed. Explanations on signs in Dutch and German. Definitely worth a visit!

Such a lovely time had by the whole family. Who would have thought that so much "stuff" is washed up on the beach? Enjoyed reading about shipwrecks and plane crashes but felt sad for the owners and passengers. The slip slop display from Africa was a link with our continent. The playground is lovely and was well used by our grandchildren. Liked the design of the new exhibition. The whole Beathcomber idea was interesting for young and old. A good place to visit when on Texel Island.

This museum is all about telling the story of the beachcombers of Texel. There are loads of things to see and read for all ages. The story touches on all aspects of beachcombing including legal and environmental issues as wel as the sheer joy of finding unique treasures on the beach. I spent a couple of hours here, but felt like there were still more stories to discover in between all the junk.

It is a MUST place. I loved it, eventhoug maritime is not my field but I could spend an hour here looking around. You can go inside a life-boat rescue capsule or a boat. Many rubbish found on the shore which was collected and brought into the museum includes a love box which was opened and put out to the viewers. If you have a kid, you can even spend more time, as a playground is there for them, while adults can enjoy the coffeeshop. There is a room with a movie, which is only in Dutch so I could not understand but English was used in descriptions.

I went there in Texel yesterday. I ordered a piece of apple pie, hot chocolate, and coffee. The drinks were reasonably priced, but the apple pie wasn’t warm or freshly made so a bit disappointed. However, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and they spoke English well. The atmosphere was a nice spot to chill.

we stayed for a weekend in August. it was truly wonderful. great room and service. Jef’s food is amazing and Nadine will expertly guide you through each course with a very thoughtful, excellent wine pairing. we will definitely come back.

Amazing experience. In my point of view, if you go to a restaurant like this you are looking for something else than eating.... You should be ready for a sensorial experience and enjoy it to the full. Bij Jef exceded our expectations. The food was great, but this is almost taken for granted, the creative presentation, the combination of flavors and (I recommend the option) the wine pairing all was fabulous. From the apetisers to the dessert. Both the chef and all his crew did a wonderful job a made us feel comfy. Although high priced It is worth It. All in all is a true sensorial experience.

Better than anything else on the island. What else can I say, I normally never take a menu when I don't know what I'll get, but it this case it didn't matter because it is all delicious. And I didn't bother looking properly at their large selection of wines and went straight for the recommendations. The wines where something completely different than I would normally choose, but they where a great complement to the dishes. After our glorious food I met Jef for the first time in decades and he is still a lovely smiling man and he has an obvious passion for his craft. A well deserved Michelin star. I should book again.

In one word: fantastic! Everything, from the ambiance, to the service, to the food, to the wine pairing, to the amuse-bouches, to the homemade bread, to the friandises, to the hotelroom, to breakfast the next morning. A Michelin star worthy experience, without a doubt. The Local Meets Cosmopolitan menu with wine pairing is a true treat. Every single dish is delicious, perfectly seasoned, prepared to perfection. It is obvious that Jef and his kitchen brigade are passionate about food. The hostess and the service are super friendly and attentive. The sommelier understands the trade; this was one of the best wine pairings we have ever experienced. We also went for the wine upgrade with the lamb, a stunning red, definitely worth it. We booked a package with overnight stay and breakfast, so after this feast it was just one flight of stairs leading to a lovely, super comfy and neat hotel room. Breakfast was press repeat: tasty dishes, yummy juices, a glass of something sparkling for the road. Sweet and savoury, flawless. All in all, top-notch. Totally worth it and worth repeating; we’ll be back!
Brigitte J — Google review
Last summer I had the pleasure to enjoy a diner at Bij Jef together with my partner. We started the evening on the comfy patio with amazing little amuse-bouches and a very warm welcome. We then moved to a table inside, the atmosphere was great, modern and open yet warm and private. The room features a semi open kitchen showing a glimpse into the wel oiled machine working to deliver amazing quality food. A very knowledgable but not arrogant sommelier explained all the different wines that accompanied our courses. And the courses, o my, wonder after wonder arrived on the table, flavour explosions and theatrical art on a plate combined. The tempi of the evening were thought out to perfection, some courses were served quickly after each-other, others gave you time to relax and reflect, only to have your attention brought back with something that surprised and delighted us. Every course was accompanied by small freshly baked different pieces of bread, some salty, some sweet, all perfect. The maître d' was amazing and service impeccable, not snobbish and distant but warm and inviting. I've had the best restaurant experience of my life here. And I will come back to Texel, just to eat at Bij Jef again. Loved it!

One star Michelin restaurant that can't work with dietary requests. No way to prepare food without shellfish or pork "That will be vegetarian". I've never heard of this in such an establishment. Any Michelin star restaurant we've visited has so far been able to accommodate dietary requests (even in Spain off all places), but for 1.100 Euro for a weekend this restaurant is above all that... What a shame.

Be ready to spend 4 hours for the 7 course menu. Be ready that half glass of milk for your child costs 6 euro and welcoming cocktails are not for free. Prices are higher than in other 1-star Michelin restaurants we have ever been.

Restaurant 't Pakhuus is a must-visit for seafood lovers on Texel. Located by the Oudeschild harbor, this charming spot offers a variety of fresh fish and shellfish from the North and Wadden Sea. While it's a haven for seafood enthusiasts, meat lovers can also indulge in dishes like the famous Texels lamb during the season. Vegetarians are not left out with multi-course dinner options available.
Hands down the best restaurant in Texel and dare I say, the entire country. I took my bf to ‘t Pakhuus to celebrate his birthday and we had the best dining experience. First of all, the food is just outstanding. This is the place to be if you want fresh seafood and local meat fare in the island. Second, the service is just superb. The servers are very attentive and overall friendly and professional. They even got my bf a sparkler to wish him a happy birthday during dessert. We’ll definitely come back to this gem of a restaurant.

Great food, wonderful service. My only complaint would be that even though we made a reservation, we were still seated on the veranda. It was good but I would have preferred a table inside.

Truly exceptional experience! Our server, Sandro, was such a joy and the service makes us eager to return. And the entire staff was so knowledgeable and attentive. The wintergarden is hot (don’t sit there), we asked the waiter at the very beginning to speed up the process, but we sat there for 1.5 hrs when the main arrived. This is when we had to leave. People who arrived after us and also ordered the mussels got it ahead of us. The food and the place is more wanna be French haut cuisine, than excellent. Still got charged for everything and we got the mussels to go. It was a joke.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at 't Pakhuus. Not our first choice as it's quite pricey but since all other restaurants in Oudeschilde stop serving food early (before 8pm) this was our only option. Service was faultless and the vegetarian option was adapted to substitute a main ingredient. The food was delicious and it was good to see a couple of local beers from Texel on the menu too. Thank you for rescuing our evening so wonderfully!

Restaurant
Catharinahoeve is a family restaurant on Texel that offers a wide variety of delicious and affordable pannenkoeken, including many vegetarian options. The Avocado pannenkoek comes highly recommended. The restaurant provides a safe and enjoyable playground for children, making it an ideal place for families to dine. Visitors praise the cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and the option to bring along their dogs. Additionally, the restaurant's open fire creates a warm and inviting ambiance.
Everything you expect from an old style pancake farmhouse. It has this typical smell that reminds you granny's home where you got those thick lush pancakes. One and you were stuffed. Well this is just that place. Thick pancakes with a variety of ingredients. They even can make them resemble Texel. Friendly personnel. Both the ordering process as getting to plate at the table was fast but I have to keep in mind it was not busy (november 16:00) I would love it if they had a Sunday night farmers country night that would be a Wow-factor

We go here every time we visit Texel. The pan cakes are amazing and everything can be served gluten free. Additionally, there is a nice playground for the kids while waiting for their meals.

Very tasty pancakes. Friendly service. Absolutely fair prices. The house is furnished in a rustic, cozy style. Dogs are allowed. Great! 5 stars. PS: I recommend the Texel pancakes with ham, cheese and apples.

45 euros for a 0.5 beer a coke and a coffee, two enormous pancakes with bacon two types of cheese and appel. Food and drinks came within 15 minutes. Fantastic location and extremely child friendly with a large playground next to the kid family section. A must try!

Really enjoyable lunch here! Especially recommend the local Texel pannekoeken. I enjoyed the spinach, walnut, goat‘s cheese and honey one; all local products. Vegetarian options here. We sat outside but inside looked cosy and restrooms ver clean. Staff could be a bit more aware but for the most part, they were fine. Would definitely come again!

I went to this restaurant for a late lunch. The staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is free. I chose a "Jutter pancake" with apple, mushrooms, bell pepper, gherkin, ham, and cheese.

Okay Dutch pancakes. They serve a big variety of pancakes, including several special ones from the Texel region. I didn't enjoy their pancake dough because it was too moist. Staff is friendly, but service can be improved by being more attentive.

Specialty Museums
Museum Kaap Skil, located in the heart of Oudeschild, offers an immersive experience into the maritime history of Texel and specifically Oudeschild. Visitors can explore old fishermens cottages, witness rope-making and fish-smoking demonstrations, and learn about significant historical events such as the Dutch East India Company and naval heroes like Michiel de Ruyter. The museum's architecture is striking, with a reception building made from recycled materials.
What an interesting place. So much to see and learn about the area and it’s history. The windmill was great to look around as was the traditional village showing Dutch life from times gone by. The large collection of beach finds I found engrossing and spent a long time exploring it. All the exhibits are in multiple languages which was nice. Very well presented attraction and the cafe and gift shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. A recommended place to visit. Especially on a rainy day.
Tim H — Google review
I enjoyed this museum very much. There is so much to see here. Love the different small houses showcasing the history. You even get to climb the windmill there. There is also 3 small live performance for crochet, rope making and you get to eat freshly smoked makereel.
Yiqiang X — Google review
My partner got to wear a replica of the dress! Amazing experience. Great museum that gives a unique insight into Dutch history, definitely worth the visit.
Levi D — Google review
Great Museum with a value for money. Exhibits are well thought out and many are interactive. It really gives you a perspective of Texel from the days when it was a central point of shipping and how the Dutch shipping routes changed the world. Easy to spend a whole day here.
Teunis S — Google review
Outstanding. Thoughtful displays in the modern main building highlight recent shipwreck discoveries. The rest of the museum is far funkier with a perfectly preserved windmill, fishing village buildings decorated with period furnishings, various boats and fishing industry trappings. The star of the museum is the shed filled with beach finds of every description. Bottles, flags, toys, shoes, errant coconuts from far off lands. Anything that can fall off a boat or end up in the sea is collected here and lovingly displayed. It’s magical. There’s an interesting display of archeology conservation efforts and live demos of blacksmithing and rope making. Loads to see and enjoy for children and adults. A nice day out.
Deborah M — Google review
A lovely interactive museum with indoor and outdoor expositions, covering the local shipwreck history and artefacts, as well as the local way of life. Came with kids and we all enjoyed it! Bonus: the cafe serves an amazing hot chocolate and their chocolate cheesecake is perfect! If you are catching a seal watching tour from the harbour, this is a perfect addition to your day out!

Organic farm
Sights & Landmarks
Assisted living facility
Novalishoeve is a charming organic and dynamic farm located just outside of Den Hoorn on Texel. It offers a variety of organic products such as milk, cheese, vegetables, and homemade yogurt and ice cream. Visitors can also enjoy a peaceful break with coffee or lunch in the on-site café or terrace.
Obsessed with their volle melk. As a kid, my dad would take me to his hometown in the Peruvian Andes, and someone would've just milked a cow. It was boiled and immediately served. That creaminess, I've rarely found anywhere else. Novalishoeve has it. The cows look pretty well taken care of, and the animals have a lot of space. Their cappuccinos are also to die for! The staff is a bit shy about their English but other than that, no bad service. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Loved the gelato here. The products look high quality and organic. Also decent prices considering the quality. There is a big parking right in front of the store.
Hatef R — Google review
Amazing organic, local food. Almost everything comes from the farm, the meat, the milk, the cheese, the bread, the ice-cream etc. We had a burger, a ham and cheese sandwich, a appletart, a carrotcake, a cappucino and ice cream. It is homemade, organic and tasty. It is also quite cheap as we paid 30€ for all of that, which is great value for money. The place is very agreable, with a space for kids to play. The owners are also very welcoming and friendly.
Bertrand V — Google review
Snacks, ice cream, coffee, breakfast, have always been top! Kids love playing here! 4 years we've been coming here and it keeps getting better!

Really good sandwiches, recommended focaccia with Porchetta. Also capuccino was great. It has a small store which some nice things you can buy, food, soaps, mugs, milk, Ice cream, cookies etc. I have to add, since I’ve seen some comment about the staff, they were great. They hire people with “care need”, e.g autism or other disabilities so better be understanding and patient.
Diego G — Google review
Delicious bread and local products. I also tried the duindoornkwarktaart (sea berry cheesecake): very subtle flavor and air-like texture... nothing like your usual cheesecake!
Christine M — Google review
Drove by this morning and decide to have a look, it exceeded all our expectations! We had a coffee, doppio espresso and a tea and some excellent pastries. I got a great espresso from the local coffee roastery, which was also super brewed. After our litte break we had a look in the shop, bought some bread, cookies and local products. Bio certificated or even Demeter. We loved the windows to have a look in to the cattle stable and on the other side in the bakery and cheese factory. Next time we're around we pop-in again!

Hiking Trails
Sommeltjespad is a delightful tourist attraction for families who love to hike in the woods. The path is adorned with wooden carvings of various animals like owls, mice, and a mythical goblin which makes it unique and creative. The forest has been transformed into an exciting adventure land with trees that have faces carved on them. It's an entertaining experience for both kids and adults alike as they walk along the trail looking for new sculptures.
The perfect walk for small kids, the kids loved it! The story of the walk speaks to their imagination.

A really nice incentive! A strall through the forest in which trees has being given faces and cutted down trees are converted into wodden sculptures. Very creative and nice. We were all smiling very widely while looking for new "faces". We didn't go through the whole trail, but even a tiny bit of it was a lot of fun!

Sports Complexes
Although no longer considered a cutting-edge attraction, the swimming-paradise at Calluna is surprisingly well-preserved despite its age. Unfortunately, the waves are no longer functional or only activated when the pool is crowded. However, this is seldom an issue as the facility rarely becomes overcrowded, ensuring ample space for visitors. The absence of hot showers is rather disappointing, especially considering their mandatory nature.
Nice and clean pool. It has a kids area and a good size pool for some serious swimming. For a few extra euros it is possible to gain access to the sauna and steam room.
John D — Google review
Fun, but they should run the waves more often. After asking why they didn't they said it costs them a lot of electricity and thus money. I would gladly pay double the ticket price just to have waves more often. (€7 > €14 as of 09/2025) There's vending machines if you want something to snack or sip. Snackbar outside.
Kees — Google review
Ok, so it isn't the brand new thing anymore, but it is surprisingly well maintained after all those years. Too bad the waves aren't working anymore, or they might only do it when the pool is packed? Which luckily it isn't most of the time, so lots of space. But come on, hot showers would be nice. Especially when they are mandatory. 4 stars because my kids always love it and the slide is awesome, the bubble baths great etc

They serve these delectable fries with a special mayonnaise infused with a hint of mustard for an extra burst of flavor. What sets Pommes Paul apart is their commitment to sustainability as they serve their food in paper instead of plastic. The restaurant boasts a spacious terrace where customers can enjoy their meals.
We Had a great Dinner Here. Both, Kids and Us, were Happy with the Menu. The loaded Fries we really can recommend! Fair prices, really good food and fast service! Can recommend!
Markus D — Google review
I had high expectations for this restaurant. I really wanted to visit Ordeland but unfortunately they do not allow dogs inside so their next door fry shop sounded like a nice option for a take-out night. The waiting time is long, which is something that wouldn't have a problem if the end result was worth it. We had Stew Loaded Fries. Nothing wrong with it but nothing special either. The fries were fine and the stew was good. The meat was tender but again nothing special or different in terms of flavour. We also had a cheeseburger - which they should rename Pickleburger - and here lies the issue. The cheese was barely there but there was an obscene amount of sour pickles. But the problem was the meat. It was dry and almost chewy. If felt disrespectful to the local products and the high standards they claim to have. We were disappointed and doubt we will try out the main restaurant in the future

Delicious chips with lots of different sauces to add. Try the typical baked kaas. We paid 15 Euros for what you can see on the picture and it was enough for 2 of us. Worth stopping by.

Unbelievable!! We go here every time we are on Texel. The food is always great and a highlight of the trip. Unfortunately we came by today to continue our tradition. The elderly woman at the counter had a bad day. Like always we ordered in german. That was never a problem. Because we ate at this diner every holiday , we knew the women speaks german, like almost every other shop on the island. So far that was no problem. This time it was a grave mistake. Firstly before even saying one word, the lady was gesturing like „what do you want, speak already!!“. Then we ordered. The grumpy and stubborn servicelady spoke her dutch, even after we answered in german. We already spoke german in front of her before ordering! After repeating herself 3 times she said in a not so friendly manner but german, that yes she speaks german but don’t want to speak it, when not asked beforehand. We were already half way gone, but finished ordering anyways. The food was really great, even if the menu changed for worse. While we were eating, other germans ordered and there it wasn’t a problem, but yes, she did not seemed amused about the language. I am sorry, but if you are living from the tourism you have to accept that people don’t always speak dutch! I don’t know what her problem was, but she lost a regular customer with that action.
Marian R — Google review
The fries tasted good but also not very delicious... we had ordered 3 large fries (without sauce) which was little... (we got sauce...) And I still don't know if the fries were organic...

Oudeland Texel in De Koog offers an exceptional fine dining experience with a refined kitchen, an extensive wine list, and a strong emphasis on using local products, including those from the restaurant's own garden. Guests can enjoy options like high wine, shared dining with wine pairings, or a 4/5-course surprise menu. The attention to detail and use of high-quality ingredients make Oudeland a top choice for those seeking an outstanding culinary experience on Texel.
We had a lovely meal at Oudeland last night. The food was perfect and such a great mix of flavours. The price was reasonable for four courses plus wine pairing. The service was good, with each course being explained by the chef and wine by the sommelier. Our only critique is that the meal took a little longer than we would have liked, 3.5 hours in total. Thanks for a great evening!

Food was delicious and the cooks adapted everything without a problem for my vegetarian + pregnant wife. Service was great and you could see everyone was happy to work there. Highly recommended and great thanks to the whole team for a wonderful dinner.

We enjoyed a beautiful meal at Oudeland having visited previously when staying on Texel. We had the five course tasting menu with one of us also having the matching half wine glass. The food is exquisite - our favourite was the belly pork. Do allow plenty of time for the meal, it’s an experience rather than just grabbing something to eat!!
Ali N — Google review
High level, quality food. Don’t forget to ask the wine menu every now and again once more if you don’t go for a full bottle as otherwise “a glas from an open bottle” still can burn quite a hole in your wallet…

Very tasty food and wine they have! You can taste chef's creativity in the dishes, the menu changes every two weeks so there's always something new to explore. We were here in year 2022 twice, and now we visited again in July 2023, chef didn't let us down, after the dinner on Saturday I booked to visit again next Friday right away. Can't wait!

Fantastically tasty food. As promised, the menu builds up your expectations till the main dish (and desert) culmination. I took one star off the service category because I would prefer that a single person would wait our table. But each of the three waiters were very friendly, professional, and passionate.

Restaurant BOSQ is a spirited restaurant located in Den Burg, Texel. It offers a diverse menu with dishes that are like small pieces of art. While some dishes may be more appealing than others, the overall dining experience is commendable. The restaurant is known for its pet-friendly atmosphere and is a great place to visit with your furry friend. Additionally, it caters to various dietary preferences including vegan options.
We enjoyed every single dish. Each dish was a nice portion and beautifully served. Only that we felt slightly uncomfortable when a kind waiter was talking over our wine glasses because of the current covid outbreak continuing in the country. It's not only at this restaurant. Hope the whole situation gets better soon.
M K — Google review
During the lockdown, we ordered twice take out, it's nice. In August 2021 finally there is a chance to have the dinner there, it's really good. Nice dishes, not over seasoning, every bite you can taste the flavour of the ingredients itself. Nice wine pairing and lots of choice for whiskey. In June 2022 we visited BOSQ again, this time the experience menu really surprised us because it's really tasty! Especially the slow marinated and roasted Anges beef with BBQ sauce, that's the highlight of the dinner! Also, the pop corn ice cream as dessert is also a surprise. Right away we booked the next Wednesday visit, can't wait to try other dishes soon.

Amazing experience in the middle of nothing. Texel is a small island, a peaceful tourist place, and you can't expect such good restaurants in this kind of places. Menu is not in english, it's hard to understand what is written if you don't speak Dutch; anyway, the waiter was so kind to go through the entire menu, and he explained ingredient by ingredient every course. Gourmet meals, prices are above average, price performance was extremely good. Silence and peace were very appreciated. If you like to eat well while travelling, you can't miss this place.

Athalie S — Google review
A very good restaurant on the edge of forest and farmland. The terrace provided nice views and was sufficiently sheltered from the wind. The food was great; so was the bottle of cava. Some interesting Asian influences, like this Okonomiyaki.
Marc K — Google review
Pretentious. Some pretty good food and some failed efforts of good food. Some waiters more capable than others. When my brother in law spilled some water, one waiter had an obviously dirty cloth to lap it up, touching my cutlery in the process. He then picked it up to put it back next to my plate. Argh. Pro: North sea crab, the ossehaas, calf's cheek with ducks liver, shrimp croquettes. A great view in summer. Good wines. Against: one of the waiters. The iberico that had absolutely no taste. And the dessert with green "whatever" and some kind of chocolate crumbs Another pro: great Irish coffee. Third time, still great views, great wines, food had its ups and downs, but mostly ups. As before, it is not an amazing Michelin experience, but definitely one of the better restaurants on the island. Looking forward visiting a fourth time.

Beachclub Texel is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to enjoy the stunning beauty of the beach and sea. With its entire front made of glass, diners are treated to breathtaking views, especially during sunset—a truly magical experience. The interior design combines white and blue accents with warm wooden tones, creating an inviting atmosphere that captures the essence of beach life. The menu at Beachclub Texel emphasizes sustainability by featuring local ingredients, ensuring fresh and delicious meals.
Fresh produce, great quality, food, friendly service, and of course, the perfect view of the ocean make this place an institution on the island. Highly recommended, especially the Asian and Asian fusion dishes and the local Texel beer.

I visited with some friends about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, three out of the four of us ended up with food poisoning afterward. It's a real shame, as the place looked very promising online, but when we arrived, it was a completely different picture. Burning down the pavilion and then trying to rebuild it in such a short time just doesn’t seem realistic. And to be allowed to reopen in its current state is highly questionable. It still looks like a construction site so it’s no surprise that proper hygiene standards couldn’t be maintained. In my opinion, this pavilion should definitely not have been allowed to reopen yet. The only positive aspect of our visit was the spanish speaking waiter.

Ended up being much better than we expected. We went there in the middle of high season/summer, mainly because it was the only restaurant close by when on the beach. However, the place ended up exceeding our expectations. It’s more spacious than it looks, the outdoor area is nicel shaded, and the bathrooms were clean enough. The food actually surprised us the most. Dishes were larger than usual, and quite tasty. The sangria was unbelievably good too, very recommendable

Not many places in the area too choose from in the winter. Ended up at beachclub texel after checking review. Staff were nice. Ordered the tosti brie and salmon on brown bread. The tosti was delicious. Just enough cheese...nice thick bread. The salmon was, well...just ok. Was a lot of bread for the amount of salmon. Greens were a bit old. If you're on the hunt for a delightful Italian dining experience, look no further than Italiaans Restaurant Pizzeria Isola Bella. Went here for the first time to have dinner during our holiday trip in Texel. In october it’s a calm atmosphere which is nice. Friendly waiters, also showing interest in my ethnicity. Restaurant Gusta offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a must-visit even if you're not staying at Hotel Texel. The restaurant provides a unique experience with its connection to the nearby farm and the crops grown there. Guests praise the delicious food, excellent service, and charming ambiance. However, some feedback suggests that the vegetarian options could be more diverse. Overall, it's described as a wonderful place with top-notch cuisine and is highly recommended for a memorable dining experience on Texel.

Ronit R — Google review
The restaurant strikes a perfect balance in its design — Nordic rustic with a modern twist, creating a warm yet stylish atmosphere. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We opted for the chef’s signature menu with wine pairing, and every dish impressed us: beautifully presented, creative, and absolutely delicious. The wine selection was particularly interesting, focusing on local and lesser-known labels. Each pairing complemented the food perfectly, making the experience both surprising and memorable. The only drawback was the service of the wines. Over the course of the evening, our drinks were served by three different staff members, each with varying levels of knowledge about what they were pouring. At an upscale restaurant, I would expect all staff involved in wine service to be equally well-versed in the pairings, so that the storytelling around the wines matches the level of the food. Overall, though, it was a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend, especially for those looking to explore a creative menu paired with distinctive wines.

The Aviation & War Museum Texel is a small yet fascinating museum located at Texel's airport. It offers a well-curated exhibit on World War II, featuring original artifacts and information in Dutch, English, and German. The museum also showcases the island's aviation history and provides insights into the Georgian Uprising, a significant event during the war. Visitors can engage with volunteers to learn more about the exhibits and even try out a flight simulator.
I didn't know how much of a role Texel played during ww2. This place really showed me the importance of this small island. This place is packed with history. Audio guide is included and has a lot of informations. If you like history this place is a must visit.

Despite its small size, this museum provides an interesting account of how the island of Texel fared under German occupation. Several remnants of crashed planes are on display and there is a room with airplane models, some to scale.

Very interesting museum partly about the war and a lot about aviation. We saw a very impressive British movie (in color) from the 40's regarding airplanes (bombers) during the war. There are several showcases regarding the war and several small plains exhibited. Also there is a small room with al lot of old radios on display. The museum is based at Texel Airport which is fun to see what's happening there. Sightseeing flights, paratroopers, training flights etc. You will get a coupon for a drink and a pie next door where there is a terrace with runway view. Very nice establishment!

Dear Tesselair, thank you for marvelous impressions! It was a wonderful special flight! Special - because I drove the airplane myself! First, the pilot Rick taught me a short theory course, it was nice to remember the school physic lessons :) Then, we sat at the airplane, the pilot got up the airplane to the height about 600 m and... he handed over control of the plane to me! It's something breathtaking and unforgottable. Texel from the bird's eye view is magically beautiful. The airplane is like a huge bird, carrying us to the sky. (Translated by Google) A beautiful gallery that you should definitely visit. The design almost gives you the feeling that you are visiting a small museum, allowing the works of art to come into their own. The owners create a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, making it an accessible and pleasant place even for visitors without much experience with galleries. Restaurant
Restaurant Oranjerie ‘t Vogelhuis, situated on Dorpsstraat in De Koog, has a rich history. Originally built as a hotel in 1934 to attract bird enthusiasts from the mainland to Texel, it transitioned into a standalone restaurant in 1992. Over the years, it has become a beloved dining spot for locals and visitors alike.
We had a very nice dinner, great meats in the mixed grill with delicious sauces. And the baked brie was also delicious I heard from my family (as I don't like brie haha). Staff took their time to talk to us and answer all sorts of questions. Best part? They were really nice to our labrador Ollie! <3

A really nice restaurant, second time visiting! They are dog friendly which is a bonus. We did sit outside but in the heat, we were placed next to the glass screen, this was not a good place to sit, the heat radiated from the glad which made it even hotter, was a little more uncomfortable. The staff were really nice and friendly and good with recommendations. The food was really nice, we had: -Caesar salad: that was really nice looking and the flavour was good! -Muscles: they were cooked so well and the flavour was so good, there is a very big portion as well. Compliments to the chef! -Texel beer battered fish and chips: the flavour was very nice, crispy batter and a soft melting fish, this was a lovely dish! -Mixed grill: this was a lot smaller than expected per price, the meat was really good with the flavour, you did also have to order extra fries that was not expected. Overall a good place to eat and drink, nice location, pet friendly and would visit again.

We went in for cocktails and desert before lunch time. It was relatively quiet. One of four people didn't receive their food. The ice coffee has relatively high sugar content compared to other places in Netherlands. Couldn't drink it tough I enjoy sweets generally. We received no napkins either. Had to use our own. Decorations and atmosphere are nice, but when service is lacking the experience turns a bit sour.

Lots of asparagus and very tasteful food. A nice atmosphere, friendly service and a very reasonable price. It was amazingly kid-friendly. Next to the bathroom is a corner to play with a toys, kitchen and a touch screen for 4+ folks. Our son also received a cuddly toy and a coloring page. On top of that there's a kid's-only menu card.

A nice restaurant with good service. The food was very good. We had the ravioli and the bread as openers, the baked brie with vegetables and the cheesecake for desert. Everything was delicious.

The lady with blue blouse yesterday i think she was one of the owners we have reservations with my husband for our 10 years wedding anniversary. We welcome us with an open heart with a big smile and we surprised because she put ballon and little heart in our table right away we love it there i order the grill meat it was delicious our starter is onion soup I hate onion soup but this one is good . My grill meat is heel lekker and when we order our dessert they surprised us a burning candles i think is very special that they do that i hope all restaurant is the same if the customer had celebration they celebrate too i live in Amsterdam for 10 years mostly dutch waiter is rude or just don't care i think is different when you live in the island i also noticed that they allowed dog inside not in Amsterdam so if you go to texel this is the restaurant for you the food is 5 stars and also the service

We ordered schnitzel thinking it is beef. We didn’t like it at all. When we told our waitress she said its pork. The menu doesn’t state it is pork. Neither our waitress warned us when we were ordering.

Nicest food and service we had in Texel. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food was good, both seafood/fish and meat were well prepared. We're definitely coming back for more next time. They are very pet friendly, dogs are welcome both outside and inside which is amazing and always a plus on my book.

Beautiful place with new owners and great food! Big terrace with lots of places out of the wind and a cosy place inside to have dinner too. Kitchen is open untill 9.

Stunning location. Staff was friendly and quick. So sad that we weren’t able to sit inside due to staff shortage. It was so sunny with not enough shady spots and only outside options were allowed to be seated. With a toddler we had to change our plan and come back later, and speed eat to not have to much sun hitting us so long.

Sadly not the best lunch. Everything we had was eatable. Some things (truffle croquettes) better, somethings (fries: bland) worse, overall a typical 3/5 experience. Staff was friendly but a bit lost with our vegan requests

Poor performance at the kitchen, the serving staff had to put up with it. Kind staff, poor kitchen performance. Had to wait 1 hour to even order our food, then an extra 1.5 hours to get it. But all together the food was great and the view was great

Diner
Taveerne De Twaalf Balcken, a beloved eatery on Texel since 1975, invites you to experience its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Open from 10 AM, it offers a delightful range of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can savor expertly brewed Segafredo coffee or indulge in an extensive lunch menu featuring dishes that cater to all ages.
This was the best meal I've had in the last two weeks of travel. The lamb stew was exceptional, and onion soup was very high quality too. The staff were accommodating in finding us a table as a last-minute drop-in. I hope to come back to Texel and this restaurant in future!

I recently visited this restaurant on Texel Island in the Netherlands for dinner on a Friday night. Having made a reservation in advance, we were pleased to find our table already prepared upon arrival. The reception we received was warm and welcoming, setting a positive tone for the evening. As we settled in, we were promptly served with two beers and handed menus in English, which was greatly appreciated. The initial bar area had a lively ambiance with a wide selection of tap beers available. At the far end of the bar, there was a charming lighthouse that served as the restaurant area, adding a unique touch to the setting. For our meal, we opted for the marinated and smoked mix of spare ribs and the lamb stew. The spare ribs were decent but fell short of the exceptional quality praised by other reviewers. I would personally rate them at 3 stars. On the other hand, the lamb stew was enjoyable, with tender meat and pleasing flavors, deserving of 4 stars. To conclude our dining experience, we indulged in a delightful strawberry cheesecake for dessert, which I would easily give a well-deserved 5-star rating. Overall, the gastronomic experience at this restaurant was average. While the food didn't surpass expectations, the exceptional service provided by the staff and the pleasant vibe of the place elevated the overall experience.

My personal highlight during my stay on Texel. Dark ambient, amazing food, super friendly, young and quick staff, and overall a great time. As you can see in the pictures, food was plenty and the spare ribs rank really high among my favourites ever. But it was the tomato soup that really won my heart. The staff seems to be very happy to chat and get along with their costumers which was really nice to see. If I ever return to Texel, this will be the place to eat!

Great, warm atmosphere in this place, very good selection of beers and the man behind the bar was friendly and suggested some good beers too! Too bad we got there too late for the kitchen to still be open, but we enjoyed the time spent there. No reason not to go!

A Tavern style restaurant in a shopping area (you have to know it :-)) in Den Burg Texel which gives you the homey feeling on the spot. The service is excellent very friendly and passionate to give you a great evening. We had the cheese fondue this time with some surprising dips ideas. Make sure you reserve a table on time, a lot of locals know their existence!
Mark J — Google review
Food was good, but simply just not excellent. I took both ribs (smoked/bbq) a bit on the dry side. And the sauces were a bit standard. My partner took the fish (I think halibut) same a bit dryish missing a sauce altogether. Very good degrated/boning. Service was exquisite, amicable and friendly also attentive. The front of the house is very atmospheric and well thought out or lived. The rear part feels a bit like an after thought and has very disappointing and below mediocre cheap Hollywood movie themed art. I’m not asking for Texel themed art, there is enough of that. Just better thought out and skilled art. I’m thinking it’s a temporary gallery type thing so hopefully next time something new and interesting?

Beach pavillion
Strandpaviljoen Strandpaal 21 is a delightful beach pavilion nestled next to the stunning Slufter nature reserve on Texel, making it an ideal spot for a post-walk treat. While I didn't indulge in lunch or breakfast here, I couldn't resist their homemade apple pie topped with whipped cream—absolutely divine! After exploring the picturesque dunes and reaching the beach, it's perfect to unwind at Strandpaal 21 with a slice of cake and coffee.
Beach bar restaurant with panoramic views. We had drinks here and are content. The sunset here is very scenic and quite busy. There is no menu visible outside, which is not according to regulations. Don't go on the dunes, it's not allowed and if you walk on the sensitive dune grass you destroy it and then the dune won't hold. It's a National Park. Most people come by bike but there is a paid parking lot about 400m away. The surrounding area is very scenic and the water temperatures may surprise you, often 20C or well above.

Very nice restaurant. We were there in April. No reservations. But we came early, around 17:30. The child ordered a fries with frikandel. My husband and I ordered a carpaccio salad and a burger with feta. And for dessert - Dame Blanche. It was incredibly tasty. And smiling, friendly staff. I highly recommend this place.
Alena K — Google review
It's one of the most disappointing experiences in my life. You expect it to be like all the reviews, but it's not. The service is slow and so up to style, I was feeling like being in the wrong to place my order. We were a group of 12 with 6 kids, and the food came with like 10 minutes separation... if you have kids, you know it's a disaster... So overall, the drinks were ok, the food is heated convenience, and service is on the lower end. You gonna pay for the location and the view, which is great but that it... if you up to it, go ahead.
K. G — Google review
Was a very nice experience to sit there. We enjoyed the food and service the first time. Incredible how some dishes can make the difference in this island that we come back to each year. We went a second time but sadly the service, food quality and price didn't really match each other this time. We ordered a hamburger where the bun was very thick, hard from outside and soft from inside because it stayed too long on the juice of the meat. Loaded fries were nice as a portion but not much loaded. They only had truffle mayo and a little parmesan cheese on top which it reached only the first layer of the fries. I would have chosen to give a side sauce knowing that the mayo didn't reach the rest of the potatoes or at least give the choice. We don't mind standing up and going to the bar to ask for our bill but that's not guest friendly. Still this is a place we want to come back to when we visit next year.

Great view, great food but the staff needs to work on being a bit more proactive when it comes to second orders plus drinks :)

This is the best beach en the best beach reastaurant in Texel. Having experience with beach hospitality, you won't find a better place like this on the Island. Overall restaurant standerds at beach restaurants on Texel are very average. Paal 21 is the best. Also this beach is patrolled by lifeguards.

The Staff was very nice ! There is no English translation on the menu. 16,90€ for a burger that didn’t taste at all, and without fries or salad for this price - seemed quite expensive for not much.
