The Castle of Buitrago del Loyoza is a medieval fortress originally built in the 15th century by the Mendoza family. The castle was constructed over earlier fortifications constructed during the period of Muslim occupation and was constructed in the Gothic Mudéjar style. The castle fell into disuse in the 17th century and later received damage during the Spanish Civil war in the 20th century. The castle is now in a state of ruin but is open for visitors. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Buitrago and the castle itself even if it is a little small. We were able to climb the old castle wall for just a couple of euros which while not hugely extensive was fun and gave us views of the rest of the old town. All up, it took us a couple of hours to explore the castle wall, walk around the river following the muralla (old city wall) and then climb the hill on the other side of the river. While the historic centre of Buitrago is only small, there are a couple of restaurants along the main street so visiting the town could make for a nice (shorter) day trip from Madrid or a fun stopover.

The castle is closed for restoration works. There's no date for the opening of it. You can walk all around the castle but it's entrance is closed.

We came here after cheking in google the reviews of all restaurants in town. This one, surprisely has the best rate, however our impression was not that good. First of all, waiters neither were attentive nor kind. Besides, they were extremelly slow taking the order and providing the check. As far as the food, I deem that was our mistake asking for "chuletón"(this is typical from North regions of Spain, specially Basque Country), they recommended to ask Chuletón...well, was tasteless, from young calf and with no maturation, of course, considering that chuletón was for 40€/kg... In the north, paying the same you got triple quality "txuletón". We also tried asparagus and were very yummy. Best of this restaurant is its location and shades to cover from the sun.

The food was delicious and the service from Marco and Ernesto was exceptional they are great camareros.
