Arisaig in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Arisaig, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Arisaig is a small coastal village known for its white-sand beaches and clear, shallow waters looking out to the Small Isles of Eigg, Rum and Muck. It sits on the scenic “Road to the Isles” and is close to one of the most picturesque sections of the West Highland railway line. The area offers opportunities for coastal walks, kayaking, wildlife watching and boat trips to nearby islands. Traces of Jacobite history and traditional Highland culture add interest beyond the natural scenery.
With favorites like Soundbites, Arisaig Sea Kayak Centre, and St Mary's RC Church, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Soundbites and Arisaig Marine Ltd so you can get the best taste of Arisaig while you’re here. Canoe & kayak tour agency
Arisaig Sea Kayak Centre offers a personalized and adventurous way to explore the stunning coast and islands of Arisaig. The center provides high-quality waterproof gear and well-maintained kayaks for an unforgettable experience. Knowledgeable guides like Andy offer valuable tips and ensure a safe and enjoyable trip, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced kayakers. Custom trips are tailored to the group's experience level, with excellent food provided throughout the journey.
Just spent 4 days on the introduction to Sea Kayaking course . I could go on at length about the glorious weather, scenery and wildlife on the four days which was absolutely amazing. However it would detract from the review and the purpose of the post. From the outset Mike was professional, very knowledgeable and friendly whilst his infectious love of kayaking, wild life and the environment was engaging and educational. The course was a master class in instruction. Firstly setting the students at ease, explaining and demonstrating paddling and boat handling technique. Then under guidance we practiced the techniques with individual feedback. Ratio of 1:6 was ideal for this course and felt there was always an reassuring ever watchful presence by Mike on the water but allowed us the freedom to explore and practice the techniques and skills. The gradual building, practice and reaffirming of skills learned was continuous throughout the course and tailored to the individual. There was some testing conditions on the water but only when Mike knew we were both ready and confident to tackle it, and I can wholeheartedly say the group nailed it. Guess it was no surprise to Mike as he had coached us through the gradual development of skills and confidence. I cannot recommend the course and company highly enough. Already checking the website to get booked on an expedition.

An excellent adventure!! I loved every minute of the trip.. our guide was kind, knowledgeable, professional and spirited, and I felt safe on the sea in her presence. She pointed out flora and fauna by name with fun facts about each and shared a bit of history about the Arisaig coast line, all while guiding our group through the many dotted islands that are the Arisaig skerries. I didn’t know what to expect, and was thoroughly delighted by the trip! I would definitely recommend Arisaig Sea Kayak Centre for your next adventure.

5 day 4 night Summer Isles expedition. Very efficient admin and logistics from the team. The provided kayaking and camping kit high quality. We had fantastic weather which helps the overall experience , but the route planning, choice of campsites, food provided and overall experience delivered by Kag was superb. Would definitely look to book again with Arisaig Sea kayak centre.

We spent a magical week kayaking around the Summer Isles this May. We were blessed with calm seas and clear skies which helped! Our guide, ‘KAG’ was brilliant. Friendly, skilled, professional, Uber hard working and so knowledgeable. She made our trip really special. KAG cooked up some delicious meals in no time at all. The booking and prep for the trip was excellent. They think of everything. The quality of the guidance, communication and equipment was first class. If you have ever wanted to do this, do not hesitate to book with Arisaig.

We had a wonderful day out with Kag exploring the Arisaig Skerries. She looked after the whole group with such care, guiding us and providing lots of great tips on techniques. She was also excellent in sharing her knowledge on the flora and fauna of the area as well as the geology of the landscape. A thoroughly enjoyed day out, and we will most certainly look to book again in the future.

Recently completed the 4 day introduction to kayaking with Andy as our guide. We experienced a mixture of weather conditions and learned new skills to improve confidence and abilities paddling the kayak. It was a fantastic experience, I felt privileged to be in a position to see unique views from the sea. Skerries, seals, herons, hidden beaches, clear waters and huge skies, getting up close and personal with nature was strangely unworldly, many moving and inspiring moments . We were all ages from 17-63 and Andy supported everyone get the most from the course. Andy’s own abilities and wealth of experience and knowledge , his talent for communication and his kind understanding approach gave me a safe environment to fully enjoy learning and challenge myself. .Thank you Andy,

What a fantastic few days! A lovely place to learn to sea kayak, and Mike got the mix of learning and letting us try things out and enjoy the environment just right. We had a fantastic time, and hope to be back for more in the not too far distant future!

Truly stunning day amongst the skerries with Kag. We were lucky with the weather, but Kag was a great instructor/guide - both in technical, kayaking sense, and full of fascinating information about the history, the environment and all of the varied species we saw. Feel very lucky.

Nestled in the charming village of Arisaig, The Arisaig Land Sea & Islands Centre is a must-visit for travelers seeking an immersive experience. The center offers a glimpse into the area's rich history and present-day attractions, including boat trips and kayaking adventures. Visitors can explore the intriguing Special Operations Executive (SOE) display, shedding light on daring wartime exploits.
Excellent little museum with a great display on the SOE training that took place in the area during WWII. Also has some interesting book on the subject in the gift shop for sale and a collection of book for the researcher.

Brilliant wee museum in Arisaig. Free with suggested donation but please support this great project. Plenty to see and do for all ages with interactive items for young and older kids. Very friendly chap on the desk too. Small shop with local made items too.

Such a lovely place to visit and learn about local (and by happy coincidence our national - Czech) history. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area. Lovely little souvenir corner too!

Worth a visit. It's small but very interesting. Friendly, happy staff. Nice wee gift shop. I bought the most delicious satsuma & Lemon marmalade made locally! 😋

One of my favorite stops. It has a lovely museum and I learned so much about this beautiful area and its history. I bought a lovely watercolor calendar made by a local artist.

Volunteer run museum which is well set out small but beautiful. There's space to sit & read some of the historical information about the training that was done by the SOE during WW2 & other military activities. They also hold archive materials & assist people with family research especially military service in this area. I sat & read for almost an hour about those who trained within the Special Operations Executive (SOE), which was fascinating!

Lake
Loch nan Ceall is a picturesque and tranquil spot that offers various activities for both children and adults. One of the popular attractions nearby is the Arisaig Archery, which provides a stunning view of the loch. The area is also perfect for paddling around, with numerous islands, islets, and inlets to explore.
Loch nan Ceall and the Arisaig Skerries at it's mouth are a delight to paddle around. So many islands, islets and inlets to explore. Plenty of places around the shoreline to set off from all along the coast and on towards Camusdarach beach to the North. Keep in on the inside of the Skerries and a trip should be fairly safe in fair weather on a canoe or kayak.

Nestled in the stunning Scottish Isles, Arisaig offers a plethora of activities for travelers seeking adventure and enjoyment. One standout experience is Arisaig Archery, which has recently opened its doors to enthusiasts of all ages. While booking may require some patience—connecting with Mike or Tina can be a bit tricky—the effort is well worth it. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by friendly instructors and beautifully set up targets that promise an exciting day ahead.
Arisaig Archery is now open! I'd highly recommend the experience. Booking was tricky - we got a phone number from the hotel and connected to Mike, who told us he couldn't make the day we requested so maybe Tina would come. We weren't actually sure whether anyone would turn up, but we arrived at the appointed time and were pleasantly surprised that Tina was there and the targets, which only the previous day had been hidden, were now on full view. Tina was a wonderfully hands-off instructor, giving us more arrows after we'd had some initial practice, helping us move the targets back, and generally providing intermittent commentary. We had a blast, and paid £20 each for around 2 hours.

St Mary's RC Church is a charming landmark that adds to the allure of its stunning bay surroundings. Although my visit was limited to admiring its exterior during a leisurely stroll, I found it to be an inviting and typical representation of local architecture. This church stands as another captivating point of interest in this beautiful coastal area, making it worth a stop on your journey.

Traigh Beach is a stunning little white sand beach that offers amazing views of Eigg and Rum. It's a perfect spot for swimming or SUP boarding, with shallow waters suitable for all ages in a sheltered bay. However, parking can be challenging as there are no official car parks nearby, leading to congestion on the roadside. Despite this, visitors can enjoy walking to the small rocky island when the tide drops significantly.
Really nice but windy piece of paradise. Went here on a rainy/ stormy day that was horrendous weather but then drove up to Mallaig and returned once the rest of the stormy weather had passed, and it was like paradise. Still had fun having a look around the shoreline and coastal area for a good few hours though in the rain and sun. Would love to return in the summer but I'd be afraid that it's a tourist hot spot in the warmer months. I also saw a large raptor if someone would please try to identify it as I'm not very good with birds of prey. My other half also said she saw a seal as we were driving along the coast leaving the area. Public toilets are also here which is great!
Liam M — Google review
Crystal clear water with average depth of 12ft when the tide is in, very sheltered bay with strong tides to worry about. Gets busy in peak season at the weekends. Public toilets and rubbish bins available. Stunning location 👌
Shawn R — Google review
Beautiful beach with white sands, but some unbelievably selfish dog owners who let their dogs constantly bark (mainly collies) ruining any peace or quiet for others. I am a dog owner and if I knew my dog was going to bark incessantly then I would not bring it to somewhere where people are trying to relax and switch off. Have some consideration for others.
Peter S — Google review
Beautiful little picturesque beach. Hidden gem on the way to Mallaig.
Rory J — Google review
Amazing wee beach no matter the weather. Stunning views out to Eigg and Rum. Perfectly shallow at most states of tide for all ages in a sheltered bay. Great for swimming or SUP boarding. Can get very busy with parked cars on the verge though. DO NOT PARK on or near the double yellow lines or in the marked 30 min bays. REGULAR checks are made by enforcement and police. If it's busy, move on and try to find one of the alternate parking bays (use Google maps). There are public toilets at the beach and large bins. The toilets are suggested 30p donation (Summer 2023) but bring paper as they might have run out. They are composting toilets but clean and modern.
Steve H — Google review
Stunning little white sand beach. We arrived at noon and were able to get one of the last car parks. You have to park on the side of the road as there are no official car parks nearby. I would think it would be beneficial for the local community/ council to consider this to remove cars and mainly campers off the road and prevent damage to the sand dunes. Nevertheless, we had an amazing afternoon on the beach. The tide dropped significantly, and we were able to walk to the small rocky island. Perfect spot for paddle boarding and there is a public bathroom too.

Served by Sophie who was really friendly and welcoming, along with all the staff. The atmosphere was great and added to the service we received it was such a brilliant afternoon. The memorabilia is great and the theme is fantastic. Arisaig Marine Ltd offers ferry services to Eigg and Muck, providing a great trip to the islands with a skilled skipper and crew. The boat is deemed totally safe, although it's advised not to sit on the very rear open deck seats during rough seas. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Muck and may even catch a glimpse of Puffins on Horse Island if they time their trip right. The local beaches are described as world-class, making for an enjoyable crossing experience.
Are seats inside but seems more takeaway based. Food was excellent and Staff lovely and views were amazing.

Went for a 3 hour boat ride. This was the second time we have done this here, the last time 3 years ago. It was amazing then and this time didn't disappoint. It was fantastic, seeing dolphins, whales, puffins and more in their natural habitat. We had a great time. The staff on board the boat were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This is definitely worth a visit.

Ferry service to Eigg & Muck were a great trip to the islands. Skipper & crew great. The seas were rough but the skipper did a great job. The boat was totally safe. Advice is not to sit on the very rear open deck seats when crashing into 3 metre swell with 30mph winds as you will occasionally get soaked. The island of Muck was stunning and try to time your trip so that you can see the Puffins on Horse Island & get across the causeway.
