Silverdale in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Silverdale, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Silverdale is a quiet coastal village set within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its limestone scenery, ancient woodlands and wide views over Morecambe Bay. It’s a great base for walking, with waymarked trails leading to spots like Arnside Knott and The Cove. Nature lovers are drawn to nearby RSPB Leighton Moss, one of northern England’s best-known bird reserves, home to species such as bitterns and marsh harriers. The village also offers small galleries, traditional pubs and easy access to the wider Lancaster and Lake District areas.
With favorites like Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, Hollins Farm Holiday Park, and Arnside Knott, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like The Royal Silverdale and Cinnamon Spice so you can get the best taste of Silverdale while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape

Nature preserve
Nestled between Cumbria and Lancashire, the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape is a true gem for nature enthusiasts. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has been captivating visitors since 1972 with its stunning coastal scenery, clifftops, lush woodlands, and vibrant wildflower meadows. The area features an array of scenic walking trails that wind through picturesque landscapes teeming with wildlife—think birds flitting about and butterflies dancing in the air.
Been coming here since I was a little girl, it's so nice to visit regularly now with my own children too! Still as lovely as I remember. The beach at Silverdale is often quiet, clean and very tranquil. Great spot for walking the dogs, letting the kids play and watching the sun set. Skies are always dramatic here, as is the windswept coastline and hidden caves. Local shops, pubs and cafes are great too, making it the perfect spot for a wander out of an evening or over the weekend.

Walked gently to the pepperpot so i could see the stunning scenery around silverdale /arnside. Being here once in November and again in stunning sunshine. What difference the two different seasons make. I wouldn't suggest to walk here if you have difficulty with walking on uneven underfoot ground.

A stunning and relatively unknown and peaceful area compared to the nearby Lake District. If you like this place, consider exploring the Trough of Bowland.

One of my favourite places in the country, such a hidden gem. So many places to walk in woods and through the country, with a variety of habitats and wildlife to see, plus nice days out in Arnside.

DO BE AWARE OF THE QUICK SAND ON THIS BEACH WHEN WEATHER HAS BEEN BAD ALSO. We had to turn back after about a 40 minute walk as it was quite intense. However bar that it is a beautiful beach Very quiet Not many people Some very nice walks around the area.

Arnside is a delightful place. Do visit if you get the chance. A lovely promenade with a stunning view, and interesting history. We were there this time for the car boot sale, only two a year I believe are held on the cricket pitch. Plenty of stalls, set out in a sort of Wagon Train effect. Beautiful weather, and gorgeous burgers from the club house! We continued on to Silverdale. What a perfect name for this idyllic spot. A great place to walk. Such a glorious coast, and the surrounding countryside is there to be appreciated, and thoroughly explored on foot.

Other Outdoor Activities
Arnside Knott is a charming limestone hill that rises 522 feet above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and bay. This modest yet captivating destination is perfect for nature lovers, featuring an array of wildlife including rare butterflies and deer in its lush woodlands. The area boasts rich biodiversity with nearby attractions like the RSPB's Leighton Moss reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, making it a haven for keen naturalists.
07/10/24. Circular walk from Silverdale road to Arnside Knott. Approximately 6.5 miles, challenging in parts, but well worth the effort. The starting point is the lay-by on the Silverdale road, what3words, economies.loving.refer. Cross the road and go through a small gate into the woods, bear left, pass the national trust sign and continue to a small fork. At the fork, keep right and travel uphill into the woods. At the top of the hill, there is a good viewpoint over Silverdale cove on the left. Continue over the top of the hill and head down through the woods towards the coastal path. This is quite a steep, tricky descent, but there are plenty of trees to hold onto for assistance. Turn right onto the coastal path, the path starts of wide and flat, but when it starts to follow the cliff edge, it becomes steeper, narrower and slippy, when the rocks on the path are wet. Be careful, there is a shear drop to the left! Keep following the coastal path, past the caravan park until you reach a small bay, go around the back of the bay and join a small road. There is a small white building here, (Bob,s cafe), follow the road around a couple of bends, and look for an enclosed path, on the right, signposted, Arnside Knott. Once you enter the woods, the path climbs guide steeply until you reach a wall, follow the signpost to the Knott, along the path that gets steeper again. The views from the Knott viewpoint are worth the effort! From the viewpoint, follow the broad path to the right, back into the woods, and follow it down through the woods, following the signposts to Silverdale road, the path can be quite slippy when wet. This path will bring you to a wall that runs alongside Silverdale road, follow the wall back to the small gate you started from.

Beautiful walk, would definitely recommend. Amazing views over the bay and across South Lakeland.

This is certainly worth the short but steep walk up to the top. On a sunny day you can see for miles in every direction. We walked from Arnside over the top and down to Silverdale. A very beautiful walk.
Cumbrian L — Google review
Great (but steep walk) up to the top. Not very well signposted but because plenty of people about we just followed them or asked and hoped for the best. Amazing views once at the top. Well worth it
Caroline E — Google review
Had a great walk up here this afternoon on what was possibly summers final fling quite a challenging walk if you're not used to it from the bottom it definately gets the blood pumping but once you get to the top the views are simply breathtaking there is a variety of wild life such as foxes and birds of prey such as buzzards
David M — Google review
I live on the private road and we walk it daily with my dog. In autumn and spring the views are the best so I would really recommend doing it
Joshua B — Google review
Came today. we parked on the free car park and walked up. Road to car park is not great so drive carefully. Make sure you have suitable footwear on as its very uneven footpath up. Nice views from viewpoint. Looks like there are plenty of other little walks around the area.

Hollins Farm Holiday Park is a charming campsite located at the base of Arnside Knott. It offers a variety of accommodation options including pitches and glamping pods. Guests have access to a range of amenities such as a cafe, bar, and swimming pool at the nearby Holgates site. The site is praised for its peaceful atmosphere and cleanliness, with top-quality facilities that are well-maintained by friendly staff.
1st time staying at Hollins Farm and both of us were impressed with the facilities. In fact by the time we left we both agreed that this was probably the best campsite we had stayed at, apart from the pitch which wasn't very flat. The shower block is massive and always spotless. There were 2 shower rooms with a toilet, sink and seperate shower. Loads of sinks and other toilets in the gents so no waiting around. It was a10 minute walk to the sister site at Silversands across the fields. Again the facilities were modern and we made the most of the free entry to the pool and used the sauna and steam room. There is a large bar area and restaurant and plenty of outside seating. Add on a soft play area and bowling and you could easily spend all night in there. Back to the facilities at Hollins Farm there was a large pot wash room with a freezer. A laundry room and a games room with a pool table and tv. We had a great stay and Im sure we will become regular customers especially if the weather stays as good as it was for our weekend
Steven V — Google review
The pods are good... though I think they could do with a privacy door between the bunk beds and the rm where the double bed is.. otherwise a really good experience
John D — Google review
sat on a freezing cold evening having a BBQ which looked a bit like a fire and were told no fires - this site has eyes. don't book here if you enjoy the full camping experience (i.e a fire and toasting marshmallows etc). it's such a shame because the site itself is magnificent, the staff are friendly and the views are amazing. seriously though, where on earth do you go camping and not sit round a fire? the worst part? they have a stock photo of people sat round a fire enjoying themselves!
Ben F — Google review
This has got to be one of, if not the cleanest campsite I have ever visited…! Not that you’d want to but every day the toilets were clean enough to eat your dinner in. Lovely quiet campsite with just a short walk to the busier sister campsite with pool, sauna, steam, kids pool, play area, bowling and bar. Well worth a visit and will 100% be staying again.
Mirrorshine D — Google review
Hollin's Farm is a top campsite. When booking, we did our research to make sure our choice was a well-informed one - and we were well-pleased. The site is excellently planned out with a natural, yet purposeful feel. The site shower/toilet block is the best I have seen, with several suites rather than separate toilet and showers. loved that. The staff are friendly and welcoming - which is always nice. We have a Nissan NV200 van with a drive-away awning, and thankfully the van was small enough for the surrounding thin roads, whereas some larger vehicles and those with trailers, would often experience several stops and more time to allow for passing. If you are patient enough, then this is not a big deal. We do like to get out an about too, and due to the nature of small country roads, going a bit slower enhamced the ability to view the scenery which is beautiful, and don't expect to just nip to Carnforth, it takes about 20 mins. The Silverdale Site is approx. 1 mile away, and has a shop for the essentials. It has a bar, swimming pool (of which you get a pass during your stay) and fitness / sauna suite. The Friday night live entertainment was provided by a hard working female acoustic guitarist, (guitar, mic stand and one tower speaker ) however, as an ex-pro act, I think many pubs and clubs have gone down this route, rather than solo acts, or duo's/trio's with more comprehensive set-ups and sounds. (It's each to their own, just my opinion) To conclude: This campsite is excellent for those who need to get away from it all. It is superbly clean and child / pet friendly. The site has several extended wi-fi poles on site for wide coverage (if you do need to access the web) This is our first visit to Hollins Farm Camp Site, and we would highly recommend for those reasons.

Me and My family loved it, we camped for 2 nights. The staff were amazing and the facilities were brilliant.
Gavin B — Google review
What an absolute gem of a site! We just stayed for a long weekend with our campervan and loved every moment on site. Hollins Farm is a peaceful site a short distance from the main Silverdale site. As a guest of Hollins Farm, you get access to the facilities at Silverdale including the Gym and Pool. Silverdale also has a bar, restaurant, shop, arcade and bowling alley. The bar/restaurant often has events on so there is plenty to do when the weather is pants. The Hollins Farm site itself is small and peaceful. Hard standing pitches are relatively flat though some levelers would have made a difference. The hard standing pitches have electricity, water taps and grey waste. The pitches aren't huge but benefit from privacy hedges. I'm not sure if this is just seasonal but we were told that no free-standing structures were allowed such as drive away awnings. It's worth checking with the site if you plan to stay here. The toilet block is fresh, clean and modern with under floor heating so it's pleasant to use! There are a mix of cubicles including ones big enough for a family to use. The block also includes a pot wash, laundry room and games room. The games room has a pool table, foozeball table, sofas and a TV. There is a grass field for tents that is NOT FLAT, keep that in mind before booking a tent here! We will definitely be staying again!
Neil H — Google review
We have just returned home after a one week stay at Hollins Farm and have to say that it was the cleanest, friendliest site that we have ever stayed on. All of the facilities are top quality and kept in great order and the staff are constantly working to keep the site in top condition. I have to add that the young couple there who’s names I unfortunately didn’t get, must get a mention for going the extra mile when my car wouldn’t start at the end of our stay. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble to get me back on the road and I must thank them once again for their invaluable help. We will definitely be booking to come back next year. Thanks for a brilliant stay.

Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve is a significant limestone landscape in England, featuring peat bogs and diverse wildlife. The reserve encompasses Hawes Water, woodlands, open meadows, limestone pavements, and an unusual yew forest. While the waymarking may be challenging in some areas, the footpaths are well-maintained. Visitors can enjoy three different signed walks within the reserve.
We stayed in a house at the nature reserve and it was a beautiful area. We saw lots of wildlife including deer and there are lovely walks to go on and explore.
Sian M — Google review
Beautiful, easy to follow trails around this reserve. Amazing ancient limestone features and trees. Many different paths leading off to explore, definitely wear proper shoes or boots as there are deep holes around the limestone pavement areas. I completed a loop of the reserve from the car park to Hawes Water lake. However there seems to be a path that takes you on a longer route towards yealand which looks interesting. This is a great place to visit for a peaceful walk, I was mostly alone on a Sunday.

Fast food restaurant
Cinnamon Spice is a highly regarded Indian restaurant in Silverdale, known for its Indian, Asian, and Balti cuisine. The restaurant has received accolades such as Tripadvisor's Travellers Choice award in 2021. While currently only offering dinner service, Cinnamon Spice is praised for its high-quality food and generous portion sizes. The cozy establishment with around 8-10 tables offers a clean and tidy environment with exceptionally clean facilities despite the toilet being located outside the restaurant.
Lovely restaurant and incredible hospitality. Highly recommended especially because of a very high quality-price ratio. Staff extremely kind and welcoming, offering the best experience in terms of Indian food in the Lake District Area. Book a table just to be sure, be prepared for cash payment, bring your own alcohol and enjoy! Cheers mates.
Ale_ F — Google review
A clean and cosy little restaurant with a long-standing reputation — 15 years under the same ownership says a lot. The portions were generous, and presentation was good however, we found the dishes [rogan josh and tandoori paneer] lacking in spice and flavour — sadly among the least memorable curries we've had. More boldness in the seasoning would go a long long way. That said, we appreciate the effort and wish them continued success.
Lyndon S — Google review
Had a fantastic meal here on Saturday night. Food was amazing and staff welcoming and attentive. Bring your own alcohol (available from the Co-op next door) and remember its cash only. Definetely worth a visit if you are in the Silverdale or surrounding area.

Curries of varying spiciness, both waiter are very helpful and friendly. Offered lots of choices to accommodate my 2yo as well. My boy enjoyed the lamb chops, tandoori chicken and cheese naan. It's a small restaurant but was full when we went on Sunday night, service was fairly quick. Doesn't serve alcohol but allow to bring your own or buy from next door coop, didn't bother us as we are there for the food!! Very satisfying meal.
Cher W — Google review
Not a great Indian. My veg masras was (I believe) mainly tinned carrots, tinned potatoes and sweetcorn. My saag paneer was (I believe) not freshly made and was almost inedible (I think made from frozen spinach and strangely a processed cheese slice?) My husband's chicken balti was disappointing (hard chicken). The papadoms didn't appear to be freshly cooked. The onion bajhi, plain rice and naan were all fine and seemed fresh. I wouldn't recommend.
Helena L — Google review
We were an Indian family passing through and went here based on the rave reviews we saw online. If you know what is authentic Indian food, you won't go there a second time. We bought a mix of tandoori grilled meat, cheese garlic naan and pulao. The meat was heavily coated with beetroot juice to give it the red-tandoori baked look, and not even cooked enough. (At least i hope it was beetroot not artificial colouring). The cheese naan was made with American-style processed cheese-slices, not grated cheese. Horrible. The service was definitely good, and the place is very busy with locals (who probably don't know, nor care, what Indian food actually tastes like).
