Flims in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Flims, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Flims is a popular mountain resort in Graubünden, known for its access to the large Flims Laax Falera ski area with extensive slopes and snow parks. In summer, the region offers well-marked hiking and biking trails, including routes overlooking the dramatic Rhine Gorge, often called the “Swiss Grand Canyon.” Nearby Lake Cauma and Lake Cresta attract visitors with clear turquoise water and forest surroundings. The area also lies on the edge of the UNESCO-listed Tectonic Arena Sardona, where you can see striking geological formations and panoramic alpine scenery.
With favorites like Restaurant Cavigilli, Das Gelbe Haus Flims, and Foppa-Alphütte, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurant Cavigilli and Foppa-Alphütte so you can get the best taste of Flims while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Caumasee, also known as the jewel of Flims, is a stunning mountain lake surrounded by tall trees and offering a beautiful beach area. The crystal-clear turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and canoeing. Access to the lake is convenient, just 15 minutes from the forest parking lot in Flims. Visitors can enjoy hiking and mountain bike trails in the area as well. The lake features a picturesque island that swimmers can reach and a restaurant with extensive facilities.
Absolute gem!!! Stunning blue waters, on a hot summer day such a great place to come with kids and have a refreshing swim, it’s not freezing cold as most of the waters tend to be in Switzerland. A bit pricey, but so worth in my opinion if you want to experience something that doesn’t happen every day- it’s not your every day normal swimming pond 🤪 it’s a post card Worthy and definitely will leave you impressed forever 😍 It’s a very easy and short stroll away from a parking, there is a cafe and we have tried a few pastries and coffee and they were delicious 💖 there is a big and fun playground for kids, wc, you can rent some boats and loungers so plenty of good facilities. And these photos don’t do this place a justice 🥵
M — Google review
The lake itself is beautiful, the surroundings are a bit disturbed, probably due to the high amount of visitors. An ugly fence is placed around the lake and to me it just wasn‘t the experience I was hoping for. Again the lake with it’s beautiful blue’ish color is stunning, so if you are in Flims and have like 1 or 2 hours, I would go and take a look.
Petrik B — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking the area itself seems family friendly but the day I went was at the end of summer and a weekday so we were able to enjoy a quiet day on the lake.
Kantian R — Google review
All year round AWESOME! There are two restaurants (in 1 building) open during the seasons, also an elevator to bring you up and down - still a good 10-15 minutes walk from the parking lot. One of the warmest mountain lake, perfect for beach days in the summer, with options to rent a pedal boat or SUP, and you walk on it or take an icebath in the winter.
Katinka K — Google review
We were lucky to be there when the summer season was over, so they were not charging for entrance, and dogs were allowed. This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in Switzerland!
Dra. C — Google review
First time coming back after 2 year and I was shocked. The entry price is getting more expensive from year to year. I mean I do understand that they have to maintain the area and staff needs to be paid but it was really a shock. Also I liked the small restaurant with the ice cream stand way better than the newly build restaurant. The place is very beautiful and we will definitively come back even though it hurts the bank account.
Fanni L — Google review
An amazing lake that looks like a gem fell from the sky and fuses with the water ,it's as you see in the pictures ,its bright blue colour says it's pure clear water that reflects the sky like a mirror and then you see the beautiful deep blue . To reach the lake you can go on a lift ( the day I went it wasn't working ) or on foot trough the gorgeous path with the forest ,it's easy to reach it's also great for people in wheelchairs or other disabilities the way is clean and there are very few bumps . There is also a large parking space before you start the Path BUT be aware it's always full ! On summer you can go to the lake and bath on it !
António R — Google review
A great escape, nice hiking trail (easy) can be also done with a stroller into the week to the lake. There is a lift that can take you there, I believe it operates in summer only

Il Spir offers a picturesque view of a gorge and river nestled in forested mountains, accessible via a trail leading to a lookout deck. The journey begins at Flims, winding through the forest with an opportunity to admire Lake Caumasee from above. The approximately one-hour walk culminates in the breathtaking panorama of Il Spir. Visitors can revel in the stunning landscapes featuring magnificent mountains and forests.
Funny idea to have put this high platform here so that the view is really enhanced both by looking into the valley landscape of the Rhine river and down into the ravine just below you. It has become really popular so that there was even a small queue when we visited.
Monica P — Google review
Absolutely stunning viewpoint, especially in sunlight! ☀️
Julian T — Google review
Stunning view, but the platform does sway somewhat and the staircase is fairly narrow. There is a very comfortable deck chair type bench a little further up the path.
J B — Google review
Great views. No need to buy tickets for the panorama. The plateau is a little small though so on crowded days you’d may have to wait a little. The views are so good though they give you vertigo! Unique to see in Europe

The 2 trails to Il Spir observation platform: 1. Flims Waldhaus to Il Spir: Length: 3.5 km one-way Duration: Around 1.5 hours one-way, depending on your pace and the stops you take. Start at Flims Waldhaus. Follow signs towards "Conn". The trail is a mix of forest paths and gravel roads, passing through beautiful woodlands and open areas. Along the way, you'll pass the Caumasee, a stunning turquoise lake, which makes for a great stop. 2. Conn to Il Spir: Length: 1 km one-way Duration: About 20-30 minutes one-way From Conn, follow the clear signage pointing towards Il Spir. The trail is mostly flat and easy, suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Y. T — Google review
A very pleasant trekking route from Caumasee Lake. About 40 minutes walking through dense forest and then emerging onto more open areas with old huts like those from an open-air museum. Unfortunately, we encountered quite a heavy rain when we reached the viewpoint itself, so we weren't amazed by the canyon view, but the route to that point was really enjoyable.
Karol K — Google review
This viewpoint allows you to watch in splendour the amazong landscapes that surround you! I visited in December and even though it was quite cold, the hike kept us all warmed up. As I mentioned the landscapes are truly amazing, magnificent mountains and forests! I would advise to wear some comfortable shoes and clothing so that you can enjoy this splendid place and not feel tired nor concerned about your feet. Definitely a place to visit again in the near future!
Jose O — Google review
One reaches this platform after a beautiful stroll through the forest (there are several pathways/hikes that you can choose from, including one that goes down to the river). The views from Il Spir are pretty great, especially if you're lucky enough to catch a day without many people around.

Crestasee, nestled in the breathtaking Flims region of Switzerland, is a serene mountain lake that has been cherished for over a century. It's a popular spot during the summer months, offering various activities such as swimming and paddleboarding. The crystal-clear water makes it perfect for a refreshing dip, and there are facilities like a public beach, restaurant, and clean bathrooms available. Visitors can also enjoy walking around the lake to take in its stunning views from different perspectives.
It's about a 30-minute walk from Flims town centre. It's fairly easy, there aren't many hills to negotiate and the path is very clearly signposted. The lake is wonderful and the colour is breathtaking.
Lucile N — Google review
Nice place, easy to get to, short walk, one part is gated and you have to pay but can be avoided. Very nice place, water was okay in terms of temperature
Jan V — Google review
Posting this as a warning for others traveling to this lake via Post Bus. Do not stop at the Auas Sparsas bus stop. Google maps and Komoot are incorrect about being able to hike from this stop to the lake. There are gates closing off private land which includes the path suggested by these mapping services.
Matthew N — Google review
Beautiful local place with a cosy rustic restaurant/cafe.
Lennart A — Google review
The 2km Crestasee Loop Trail around the lake is perfect for a leisurely walk, allowing you to fully appreciate the lake's serene beauty from different angles. It is flat and well-maintained, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Crestasee is accessible by foot, bike, or car. There is a parking area nearby, but during peak summer months, it can fill up quickly, so arriving early is recommended. For those who prefer a more eco-friendly approach, there are several hiking trails that lead to the lake from Flims and the surrounding areas: 1. Crestasee to Caumasee Trail Distance: 3 km Difficulty: Easy to moderate This trail connects two beautiful alpine lakes, Crestasee and Caumasee. It's a relatively easy hike that takes you through dense forests and offers stunning views of both lakes. The path is well-marked and suitable for families and casual hikers. Caumasee is another picturesque lake known for its turquoise waters and is a great spot for a refreshing swim after the hike. 2. Rhine Gorge (Swiss Grand Canyon) Trail Distance: Varies (full loop approximately 10 km) Difficulty: Moderate to challenging Known as the "Swiss Grand Canyon," the Rhine Gorge is a spectacular natural formation. Trails leading from Crestasee to the Rhine Gorge offer breathtaking views of the dramatic cliffs and the winding river below. The trails can be steep in sections, so proper hiking footwear is recommended. The route offers several lookout points, providing excellent opportunities for photography. 3. Flims-Laax Hiking Region Distance: Varies (numerous trails of different lengths) Difficulty: Easy to challenging The Flims-Laax region is a renowned hiking destination with a variety of trails catering to different skill levels. From Crestasee, you can access several trails that lead deeper into the Flims-Laax area. Highlights include scenic viewpoints, alpine meadows, and opportunities to spot local wildlife. Popular routes include the hike to the Segnesboden, a beautiful high-altitude plain, and the trail to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Sardona Tectonic Arena.
Y. T — Google review
Far away from everything (therefore expensive transport). On top, you have to pay 8fr per person entry fee, for an overcrowded space. Only 5-10% of the lake front is accessible so even more jammed with a crowd. We paid 150+ just to get there and nothing from the experience was worth it... disappointing.
Wellanony — Google review
A small lake where, on one side of it, you can also bathe in summer, on the other side it is quite wild with reed.. Luckily there is no fence around it but in fact a fee is requested, to be paid at the kiosk.
Monica P — Google review
I am absolutely stunned every time I come here, beautiful surroundings and hikes around it and near it. The lake is a wonderful location for swimming in summer with an entrance fee. Autumn and winter it is free. It is a great location for photographs as the water of the lake often reflects perfectly everything around and above it. From this location you can easily get to Spir another interesting point or the famous Caumasee lake.

Trutg dil Flem in Flims is a beginner and child-friendly hike that follows the river Flem from its source in Upper Segnesboden to the town center. The trail offers panoramic views of the region, stunning valleys, and unique ravine landscapes with seven bridge crossings. It's an artistic and sensory experience with natural paths, musical streams, and fairytale landscapes.
A great walk along the river over bridges and in the forest. There are parts you can just relax on the beautiful river banks and the kids can play in the water. You can do the whole walk or parts of it. The whole walk might be a bit hard with small kids.
Yuval D — Google review
Beautiful hike along the river Flem. Go up with the cable to station Foppa, from there go up and left, follow the path upstream for a few hundred meters until you see a small gate on the left that states no mountainbikes allowed. Go through there and follow the path and the river downstream. Many bridges, waterfalls and beautiful views and landscapes. With easy hiking fun for 2,5h guaranteed. Mostly walking in shade but also few open spaces in the sun. Several places to access the river for a quick swim. Dogs love it, too.
Karalis B — Google review
Beautiful hiking trail, where you follow the stream from the mountain top all the way down to Flims. We took the cable car from Flims to Startgels and hiked part of the trail from Startgels to Segnes. Moderate hike, got to see 5 bridges and it took us about 2h.

Restaurant Ustria La Cauma

Swiss restaurant
Restaurant Caumasee is located by the beautiful Blue Lake in Flims, Switzerland. The entrance fee is CHF 19 per person, but it's worth it to enjoy a day with family during the summer. The restaurant offers a variety of food including hash browns, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, and a salad buffet. In addition to dining options, there are also bathroom facilities, beach volleyball, a kids' park and boat hire available for an extra fee.
Brand new restaurant near Flims that takes you a 20' walk (without elevator) through a cosy and at the same time spooky forest for getting there. Very nicely decorated and personnel was very friendly too. My daughter and I had baby spare ribs and they were just delicious! The wines also really good so we will certainly come back next year to see how they will be doing with a yr of experience in the backpack. Really good start! (Maybe one minor comment is the poor acoustics so quite noisy, probably little to do about it given the high ceiling)
Dries R — Google review
Unfortunately, I left this place quite disappointed. I rarely write negative reviews — I usually prefer not to leave any at all — but in this case I feel it’s necessary to share my experience. I used to come here often on weekends before the major renovation in 2025, and I had always enjoyed it. The place had a simpler charm, and the quality matched the prices. While the new space is undoubtedly beautiful, I don’t think I’ll be returning. I stopped by for a late lunch on a Saturday and ordered a tartare — a dish that’s simple in theory, but easy to get wrong. From the start, the service was underwhelming: understaffed and noticeably unwelcoming. When my mother asked for a food menu, the response was abrupt and almost irritated, as if we had asked something inappropriate, even though we simply wanted to eat, not just drink. The worst part, however, was the food. The tartare had a strange orange color — possibly due to some odd seasoning like ketchup? — and it honestly ranked among the worst I’ve had in the region. The presentation was poor: the plate was visibly dirty with fingerprints and grease. Small details, yes, but they matter. It doesn’t take much to clean the edge of a plate before it leaves the kitchen. To make things worse, I had to wait nine full minutes for a small plate of butter after requesting it for the toast. I ended up eating out of hunger, trying to avoid further interaction with the staff. The spritz was decent, but noticeably smaller than what I used to get in previous years. It’s a real shame, because this was a place I often visited with family and friends. It used to be simple, but it always delivered. I sincerely hope things improve over time, as the potential is there. Ps:I suggest to do a little visit to ustria lags, for trying their tartare I think could give a good input.

Our experience was very smooth. The ambience was chill, yet sophisticated in what I call “Swiss Simplicity”. The minimalist deco conveys quality without getting in the way of the beautiful natural scenery the restaurant is inserted in. Our pasta was cooked to perfection and the taste was amazing. I mean, look at the generous portion of truffle grated on our plates! The blueberry tiramisu stole the show amongst the desserts we tried, I highly recommend it. And service was timely, polite and there was definitely an effort to be cheerful, which we always appreciate. Would go back for sure!

Excellent and kind service by Thomas at the pasta buffet. The pasta was delicious and so was the salad. The place itself is in a beautiful location. The team kindly helped us pick up the treys and plates after we ate. The team was always smiling and left us feeling happy. Thank you very much!

This is a self-service restaurant, luckily we visited in September so at least we didn't have to pay the entry ticket, but it was still very crowded. The food is quite basic and the choice is limited. Prices are high. After queuing up we still had to wait at the table until our food was prepared.

Amazing place to swim and relax. Great infrastructure around it. It is required to pay to enter the lake. You can pay to enter the restaurant area and get a voucher of the same value.

7 days journey in Flims and it’s the 3rd time we came here 🤍 definitely the best burgers around!! My husband tried the beef every time and you can definitely tell the cook is specialized in his skills! 👌🏼 Huge portions, very tasty food and super friendly service! 10/10 recommend!

Good value for money. This place is just very conveniently located in a hotel next to the Flims cable car. Food selections mostly meat oriented as you can expect Decent portions, at the least the burger was quite generous. Quick and good service

If you're craving a burger, this is a fast food restaurant you can choose with your eyes closed. The Texas burger was great with 180 grams of meat and cheese. Add to that the kindness of the girl serving, we had a very nice meal. Afterwards, we finished the meal with Switzerland's famous Movenpick chocolate ice cream.

I was with my husband, the place is very nice, we ordered a hamburger for him and a mixed plate (wings and ribs) for me, both dishes very tasty😋! The service was very good 😃!, very attentive; It is preferable to book in advance, especially in high season.

The food was very good and the portions were generous yet we were disappointed because what we wanted to have had disappeared from the new menu which was shorter than the older versions, maybe because it was evening or off season. Prices are high, as in all the area.

Great food and service. Beer was very cold and the pulled pork burger delicious. The sweet potato fries were crunchy. Prices are a bit high.

Very very yummy food! I didn’t have the burger or steak but the ribs were seriously juicy and tasty! It was also not crowded on a September weekday, we were the only people there for dinner! The staff were very helpful and friendly as well. Such a great dining experience…

Head to the Grill house flims for a delicious steak! The chef is super knowledgeable and friendly, the stuff lovely and helpful and the steaks are to die for! Will definitely be back!
