Condeixa-a-Nova in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Condeixa-a-Nova, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Condeixa-a-Nova is best known as the gateway to Conímbriga, one of the most important and well-preserved Roman archaeological sites in Portugal, with extensive mosaics, ruins of houses, baths, and defensive walls. The local Monographic Museum of Conímbriga offers context for these remains, displaying artifacts that trace daily life in the ancient settlement. Beyond its Roman heritage, the town sits amid rural landscapes and limestone hills, with nearby trails and viewpoints in the Serra de Sicó. Its location just south of Coimbra also makes it a convenient base for exploring the wider Centro region.
With favorites like Restaurante .come, Buracas do Casmilo / Vale das Buracas, and Tennessee Original - Restaurante Americano | Condeixa, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurante .come and Restaurante Luz & Vida so you can get the best taste of Condeixa-a-Nova while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

A really interesting interactive museum about the Romans and their presence in this area. Information is in English as well as Portuguese.
John M — Google review
Great museum with many interactive activities and help understand the Roman city. Visit the museum before or after visiting the archaeological site. Bring you ticket from the archaeological site to get a discount.
Mike A — Google review
A good museum for children and to those who do not have a classical education. There are some lovely interactive exhibits. They have gone through considerable lengths to show how the local region fitted into the greater empire. This museum makes a great introduction to the Roman Empire and society before one visits the museum and impressive ruins at Conimbriga (just 2 km away). All of the displays have English explanations BUT the audio-visual displays and interactive screens are only in Portuguese. An enjoyable experience.

Fency architecture... I had a question. Can I assemble the chairs to a square? Too many people were there. So I cant do my experiment. ^^

The has to be one of my favourite visits ever. A fascinating guided tour with every attention to detail. I felt I learnt so much about this wonderful author and it really opened my eyes to Portuguese culture. I shall always be grateful to the wonderful guide who explained everything with so much humour and passion. Thank you very much indeed! I now wish I could find an English translated version of one of his incredible books, but I fear it's going to be a very difficult task!

A beautiful, lush trail near Condeixa-a-Velha featuring well-built decking, Roman bridges, and benches. The waterfall dazzles especially after rain, with crystal-clear pools surrounded by healthy forest. Even during dryer spells, the walk remains pleasant and scenic—though rainboots are advised in winter.

Very good trail, highly recommended, in winter wear waterproof boots

Amazing plage ! Makes you feel in awe at how or why they are there. The road to get there is a bit scary with car but it is doable. You can literally drive up to these. Or leave your car at water fountain and walk for 20 min to get there.

Spectacular place to walk with the family, super close to Coimbra and, as soon as it is cut from national to a road towards Casmila, we are automatically transported to another place, the landscape, the roads, the type of trees, we do not believe that that it's right there". In regards to Casmila is a small village with only a few houses, take everything you need for meals and walking. The holes are in fact very touring and of a unique structure, which gives them this imposing. I was disillusioned that there were only holes in the same location, because on a 6km trail, we only see them all together in one point. I recommend it for anyone who climbs or just for a family outing in the countryside

Restaurante .come offers a diverse menu created by the chef, featuring dishes like green bean soup and pasta primavera. The restaurant provides good value for money with reasonable prices and vegan options available. Despite being one of the more expensive places in Portugal, it is known for its excellent food and wine selection. The ambiance is pleasant, with friendly staff providing great service. Overall, Restaurante .come comes highly recommended for its great food and dining experience.
A great evening. We had the prawn curry & grilled squid, muito saboroso!

Just 5 minutes away from the Conímbriga ruins you can enjoy true Portuguese food in a true Portuguese ambience. There is plenty of space to park in the surroundings and on top the village is very tipical. Nice and efficient staff. Price in line with normal Portuguese restaurants (+/- 25€ person) Recommend it.
Sara A — Google review
Excellent food and wine. Nice staff. Good price. It's a good choice.
Lidia R — Google review
The food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the Hamburger with rice, chips and a egg, it was perfect. Everything was so good! I really recommend if you're visiting around Coimbra!
Gabriela P — Google review
Having eaten two times here, I had two experiences, first one good, second one borderline bad. The place is nice and service was nice too (one waiter very friendly with with the kids), but two times they forgot our order. About the food, the Picanha had many nerves and the portion of meat small for the asked price in my opinion. Some of the sides didn't fare better, something resembling "Migas" looked good but taste was bland. The octoups on the other hand looked and tasted good. Me and family left restaurant feeling we had a pretty average meal, below what reviews seem to suggest. Don't know what happened, maybe we were just unlucky that day.
Celso A — Google review
Food was great! Online menu should be taken as a general sample though. Menu we ordered from was created by chef and everything was very good. I even liked the green bean soup and I don’t like green beans. Def worth popping by here.

Restaurante Luz & Vida is a simple yet pleasant space that offers a surprising dining experience. It's described as unassuming but wonderful, catering to gatherings and providing amazing meals with options like salmon, beef, chicken, and vegetarian dishes. The portions are generous and the atmosphere lovely. Despite language barriers, communication was facilitated through translation apps and pictures. The restaurant also accommodates reservations for larger groups, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy their time there.
Impeccable and simple. We ordered Cabrito à Condeixa, which was tender and very tasteful. The atmosphere was cozy and the service friendly. Prices were reasonable. The food was simply homemade-like and delicious. A great experience. I will surely come back.

Busy local restaurant. Friendly staff. We had homemade soup which was hot & tastie. Followed by the roasted goat, potato's & cabbage in an amazing sauce. The meat was so tender. Good atmosphere and cozy and warm. Good prices. Big portions.

This little unassuming place was wonderful. We had a gathering of Expats and needed a restaurant that would accommodate all of us and Luz & Vida stepped up! Thier meals were amazing. They had several options on the menu including salmon, beef, chicken and a vegetarian option as well. The portions were hearty and the atmosphere was lovely! We did let them know in advance the number of people and the time we would be there so they could reserve our tables. Everyone was able to relax and have a good time. Obrigada Restaurante Luz & Vida.

The food was great, especially the goat. It was very tender and flavourful. We also enjoyed the chicken and sardines. We also had a tasty custard dessert. The staff did not speak English but they were friendly and helpful. Google translate was useful.

Lunch, waitress totaly ignored us. There were 2 other people in the resturant. It transpired that she was re writing the complete menu. Not offered a drink or starter we were just left sitting. Food and wine were good not great. Price not competative for local area.

We were traveling from Porto to Lisbon and decided take next exit to the nearest town and wow.. I’m glad we did ! No one spoke English but with our translation app and pictures we were able to understand each other just fine. My husband and I both ordered the daily green soup which was delicious. They also bring you complimentary fresh baked bread and olives 🫒🤤. For lunch my husband ordered the roasted goat (Cabrito ) picture below and I had steak with rice (Bife) , potatoes and greens. Finished our lunch with a little espresso shot for the road. Everything was exceptional!!! The staff was very nice and friendly . if you happen to find your be in this area , please stop by .. you will not regret it ! Muito bom Muito Bom!!❤️

Tennessee Original is a must-visit spot with a unique ambiance featuring Elvis movie excerpts and 50s dance scenes. The menu offers excellent burger options, diverse beer selections, and delicious pizzas. The friendly staff go above and beyond to accommodate guests' preferences. Customers rave about the Portuguese Burger and Padron peppers, as well as the chicken bites starter and strawberry milkshake.
I loved the decorations and overall atmosphere of the place. The food was delicious and the employees were lovely. I think it's important to note that the waiting time for the food is a bit long , but if you keep in mind this no macdonalds, it makes sense. I ordered an arizona burger, and I tasted the Mega chicken as well, both delicious. The strawberry milkshake was also super tasty

You gotta try this place. Different excerpts from Elvis movies on different screens with a main screen showing fantastic 50s dances accompanied by the music of that time. The food is excellent burger territory, with plenty of different beers to choose from and pizzas if you're not a burger person. The staff are friendly and helpful and try to give you what you want regardless of the language difference. Try the Portuguese Burger...GREAT! Also excellent Padron peppers!
Steven W — Google review
I had a wondefuly chicken bites starter with a lovely strawberry milkshake. The milkshakes do live up to the hype. The burger meat and bacon was great, the buns were generic and I asked for sauce on the side but it was added anyway. The "cheddar" is what I call american plastic cheese, I wouldn't recommend unless you like that cheese. However forgiving the above. The whole experience was lovely, and there are of course goods and bads about the food. The atmosphere was lovely. With a great selection of modern country music
Mr K — Google review
Great vibe with unusual fun decor and service with a smile. Big selection of burgers & pizza. We tried chicken, beef and vegetarian burgers all came with chips and a dip. Unanimous with everyone best burgers theyve had and the milkshakes were huge and sublime. With drinks approximately 15E a head. New large car park to the rear. Reservations not taken or required. We will be back asap.

The atmosphere is very Tennessee-like and the space is big enough for families. Beat place to take your kids to enjoy the decorations, music and food. The hamburgers are decent, and the prices are ok, a bit more expensive than the menu that appears on the google maps.
