Porta San Giacomo is a stunning white marble gate and stone viaduct that stands as an iconic symbol of Bergamo's old town. This 16th-century structure, part of the Venetian fortifications, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a must-see attraction. The gate's impressive white and pink marble from Zandobbio glows beautifully in the sunlight, creating a magical backdrop for the city.
Everything was very beautiful. My family and I had a lot of fun walking around and taking pictures of the places. There are a lot of restaurants to go to. I would highly recommend going there.

Porta San Giacomo is one of the most beautiful entrances to Città Alta in Bergamo. The white marble gate is stunning and full of history, and the views from there are amazing—especially at sunset. Walking up from Via Sant’Alessandro makes the experience even more special. A perfect spot for photos and to enjoy the charm of the old city.

Very nice trip to Porta San Giacomo…. A lot of places with sun and shade… very nice views over the city and all in all just a lovely place to have a day off

Venetians built an entire defensive wall system all around the Upper Town old town Bergamo. They're very well preserved and under UNESCO protection. Walking the walls you can admire several city gates, with Porta San Giacomo being the most beautiful one. Great city views from many points
Dejan B — Google review
This is the most beautiful path to walk on in Bergamo, leading you to the Porta San Giacomo, an ancient and beautiful gate situated at the edge of the historic center of Bergamo. From here you can take the most beautiful pictures of the city of Bergamo and the foothills of the alps!

Nestled in the heart of Città Alta, Bergamo Cathedral is a stunning testament to history and architecture that dates back to the 12th century. This remarkable structure showcases an impressive neoclassical facade adorned with intricate sculptures, while its grand nave and soaring dome dominate the skyline of Old Town. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a treasure trove of artistic masterpieces, including works by renowned artists like Giovan Battista Moroni and Andrea Previtali.

The Cathedral of Bergamo ⛪️ is a place that impresses with its beauty and history. Upon entering, I am captivated by the magnificent architecture and the works of art that adorn its walls. Every detail of the cathedral, from the altar to the stained glass windows, tells a fascinating story. It is a place of peace and reflection, where I feel connected to culture and faith. 🤩 If you have the opportunity, visit this Italian gem 🇮🇹. #BergamoCathedral #Church #Art #Italy #Culture # 🇮🇹❤️📍 28.09.2025

Beautiful baroque cathedral. Came here while rehearsal for big mass. I found a chapel of holy cross very beautiful. There is a painting of Christus taking off the holly cross and in the dome painting Christus is painted with the cross and Father God and Holly Spirit as Holly trinity. There is also small and hidden Stations of the Cross, carved in marble. The cathedral has also a crypt, but was not accessible at the time of visit.
Gaber Z — Google review
Bergamo Duomo is set on Piazza Duomo - a tiny and packed square with other religious edifices. It is the very first on the left, and you'll recognized it by its whitewashed neoclassical facade. However, behind it, when you enter, you're stunned with outstanding and beautiful art and decoration. We even found it more beautiful than the next door Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, as the decor is not that intense like Basilica's. Entry is free
Dejan B — Google review
Quite plain on the outside but rich in decoration in the interior. The Crypt area is very interesting and a must see when you visit. There are a few mini chapels off to the sides, so make sure you visit those also. As always with these Italian Cathedrals the floors and ceiling is incredible. The church is free to enter.

Have to visit. If you like the art it’s possible to spend hours there to enjoy everything with details

Church
The Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore is a stunning Romanesque church featuring an elaborate marble porch and a lavishly gilded interior adorned with tapestries. Originally under the administration of the Chapter of San Vincenzo, it was later entrusted to the Congregazione della Misericordia Maggiore. This historic site served as a Collegiate Church until the 1970s and housed its own clergy and seminary.
I love visiting churches when exploring new cities, and this one truly took my breath away. I didn’t expect to find such stunning art and architecture here—absolutely outstanding! A must-visit if you’re in Bergamo. The craftsmanship and atmosphere left a lasting impression.
Habib F — Google review
The most beautiful basilica I’ve ever seen. Every detail is captivating – from the tapestries and wood inlays to the gold accents, paintings, and statues. There’s a sense of harmony and peace inside that makes you want to stay longer and take in every element. You can easily spend a lot of time here just admiring the craftsmanship. The entrance is paid, but it’s absolutely worth it.
Mariana S — Google review
The church opens on Piazza Duomo, you can buy tickets as you enter. The external appearance has largely maintained its Romanesque origins, but the interior is largely Baroque. The choir with the wooden reliefs with Biblical tales are spectacular. We visited the church on Sunday, after the service, and it was a little crowded, but not disturbing. We also had live organ music throughout the visit, I don't know if it's like that every day, or just on Sundays. The music contributed a lot to the whole atmosphere.

Located in Bergamo’s Città Alta, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore was built in the 12th century. Its Romanesque-Lombard exterior contrasts with a richly Baroque interior. Originally serving as the baptismal church for the Cathedral of San Vincenzo, it stands beside the historic episcopal curia, preserving centuries of sacred heritage.

The Colleoni Chapel, located in Bergamo, is a stunning 15th-century funerary chapel known for its colored marble exterior and frescoed ceiling. This Italian Renaissance masterpiece is dedicated to Saints Bartholomew, Mark, and John the Baptist and features an overwhelming mass of decoration that dazzles the eye.
The tickets are 5 euros (used to be free), however I think it was worth to pay, since I could not take my eyes off the artwork. Very beautiful and majestic, worth a visit

The Colleoni Chapel in Bergamo’s Upper Town, Piazza Duomo, is a Renaissance gem commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni as his mausoleum. Built between 1472 and 1476 by Giovanni Antonio Amadeo, it replaced part of Santa Maria Maggiore, sparking controversy. Today, it stands as a symbol of artistic and historical grandeur.

Absolutely spectacular baroque church!!! Limited hours. Check website. Weekends can get a little busy but this is the most special church we have seen in Europe so don’t miss it! Have fun!
Wayne B — Google review
While many are drawn to the quirky three testicles on Colleoni's family emblem outside on the fence (which is definitely worth a peek or even a touch for good luck), I highly recommend stepping inside. And see its ornate architecture, frescoes and sculptures. It's clear Colleoni wanted to leave behind a truly remarkable legacy. It's a powerful and beautiful testament to his heritage. Don't miss the chance to explore the interior – it's an unforgettable experience! And you just need to put 1 Euro (or more to enter).

In the heart of Bergamo Alta, Piazza Vecchia is a bustling square surrounded by historical landmarks. Pallazzo della Ragione is considered one of oldest Italian municipal buildings. Back in the 12c it housed the city council and other administrative offices, while during the Venetian period served as a court. It divides two main squares in old town - Piazza Vecchia and Piazza Duomo, between which you can roam through ancient palace arches. Plaques in those arches explain the history of all buildings around

(Translated by Google) The Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo Alta is an authentic medieval jewel, among the oldest municipal public buildings in Italy, built between 1183 and 1198. Developed between Piazza Vecchia and Piazza del Duomo, it served as the administrative, judicial and aggregation heart of the medieval city. Originally facing the basilica, between 1453–63 it was reoriented towards Piazza Vecchia to enhance the new city hub. (Translated by Google) It's very beautiful, but what I find truly interesting is the fact that it has been used several times to host contemporary art installations... the dialogue between the past and the present is often re-enacted, as in the Cattelan sculpture currently located there. It depicts a homeless man slumped on a bench, intent on pissing himself... and it's no coincidence that it was placed there... the Palazzo della Ragione was the place where justice was administered, so this statue is a clear social commentary that unfortunately remains relevant...

The Palace of Reason has served as a government seat, courthouse, library, and theater. Its elegant architecture and rich legacy place it at the center of Bergamo’s cultural and civic life. Deeply cherished by locals, it remains a symbol of the city’s enduring history and communal pride.
Dr. H — Google review
(Translated by Google) This building was built in 1198 as a town hall, making it the second oldest town hall in Italy after the Roman one. Previously, the main façade faced the Piazza Duomo, where the entrance staircase also stood. After fires in the 13th-16th centuries, the building underwent significant reconstruction. The main façade was reoriented north, toward the Piazza Vecchia, a new staircase was added to the side, and the old one was dismantled. After annexation by the Venetian Republic, the building housed the Palace of Justice, a name it retains to this day. Since Napoleon's time, the building's civic significance has gradually faded; it has been used as a library, and for a time, it even stood empty. It is now used as an exhibition space. The frescoes, ceilings, windows, and the entire interior are 16th-century, but the exterior retains elements from the 12th.

Nestled within the elegant walls of Palazzo Nuovo, the Biblioteca Civica Angelo Mai stands as a testament to Italy's rich literary heritage. Established in the late 18th century, this remarkable library boasts an impressive collection that spans various disciplines and eras. With around 730,000 volumes dating back to the 17th century, alongside thousands of newspapers, magazines, and manuscripts—many beautifully illuminated—the library is a treasure trove for bibliophiles.
It is a very nice and quiet place to study and work. I really enjoyed my time there and focused on my work very well. It motivates a lot. It is a free and amazingly useful place in this city👌 librarians also speak English.

2023.09.27 - we ventured into the library because my travel companion is a retired librarian. It was my favorite site in Bergamo. In the entrance hall, books printed 10 years after the invention of the printing press and hand illustrated, were on display. Upstairs, among other things, are 2 large globes produced in the late. 1600’s. One shows the known world surface. The other shows the stars and constellations. I was amazed by both the known and the unknown features of the Americas.
Les M — Google review
Huge building but only one floor is allocated for the books. Most is empty and useless. Librarians, save for one, cannot speak English. They prefer if people just roam around and loiter instead of actually sitting down and reading. There are so many rules and yet these are not made known to the visitor beforehand. I have never been to a library so unfriendly and practically useless.
Atypical T — Google review
The room of the two globes is always worth a visit. When inside, the refined elegance of the ceiling, the clean setting of the shelves, and the quiet will project you back to the time when the two large globes were crafted.

Nestled in the charming city of Bergamo, Al Donizetti is a delightful wine bar that exudes an inviting old-world charm with its vaulted ceilings and intimate atmosphere. This gem, run by Massimo Locatelli, offers a culinary journey through Italy's rich gastronomic heritage. Guests can indulge in traditional pasta dishes alongside expertly curated platters of high-quality cured meats and cheeses.
A very classy wine bar in Bergamo altra, which is just down from the main piazza and opposite its main restaurant of the same name. The decor is trendy and the service was first class. I tried the local white wines, which were excellent. I didn't eat here, so I can not comment or rate their food. I was, however, given olives and salted almonds free gratis.

Very classy wine bar. This is the second premises to the main restaurant / wine bar. Staff were very helpful and kind. Fantastic wine list and we picked our bottle from the shelf. We ordered Parma ham platters, bread and oil, cheese boards, olives etc. I love this place and will definitely return. Met the owner who was lovely. All staff attentive and pleasant. This is what Italy is all about. We were never rushed and left to relax as long as we liked. Don’t change guys 🙏🏼👍🏻❤️

Nestled within the charming warren of the Città Alta, it's a place where the aperitivo hour feels less like a prelude to dinner and more like a main event orchestrated by a particularly enthusiastic maestro. They don't just offer snacks; they present a veritable stage production of nibbles. Think tiny, artfully arranged plates of local cheeses that sing of the Lombardy pastures, cured meats that whisper of ancient traditions, and olives that pop with the briny zest of the Mediterranean. The drinks, of course, flow with an Italianate elegance, each glass a carefully chosen partner to the culinary symphony unfolding before you. It's a place where you can happily lose track of time, surrendering to the gentle hum of conversation and the sheer, unadulterated joy of good food and drink. They have clearly worked out that the combination of location, and high quality produce, is a winning one.

Went to Donizetti at the end of January. The food was spectacular, the local wine pairing was amazing and their desserts oh, but oh so good! We also enjoyed our server who was very nice, on top of things and knowledgeable. Ordered the Casoncelli, the Polenta e formai e speck, and the Spedo di Manzo. Everyone loved their meal!
Roxana N — Google review
Its all about the food. Decor is comfortably rustic in a setting that is almost more out than in on a warm September evening. A variety of traditional pasta dishes with a very local vibe and seasonal ingredients. The charcuterie and cheese is a delight. I had a pasta dish which was so good I ordered the same again, fortunately the staff were happy to provide a child's portion at a reduced price or I would have exploded. I followed this up with a cheese platter of 6 different local cheeses which I shared with my wife. They were all excellent and craftily arranged in strength order from mild to challenging. Probably the very best cheeses I have eaten in the last 10 years and I love cheese. We had a starting glass of local franciacorta sparkling wine with a bottle of robust local red for the pasta and cheese. Altogether a memorable meal in a memorable place. You can find cheaper places to eat in Bergamo Alta, but I doubt you will find better.

The Accademia Carrara Museum is a renowned art destination in Bergamo, Italy, showcasing an impressive collection of works from the 15th to 19th centuries. The museum features masterpieces by celebrated artists such as Pisanello, Botticelli, Bellini, Moroni, Raffaello, Tiepolo and Canaletto. Visitors can explore nearly 2,000 authentic paintings, sculptures and decorative works within the stunning neoclassical building.
Very cute museum! Prior to entering you must put your bags into lockers. Pretty spacious so no problem fitting my bag. Felt very safe, but if you want to be safe you should leave your valuables at home or keep them on you.

It is really stunning how the city changed in few years and the museum is a positive part of this change. It is full of interesting art and the building is so beautiful! Also, do not miss the cafe and the park

We visited the gallery on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy. The staff is very friendly and offers explanations about the museum's tour and the main works of art. There are some interesting paintings by Raphael, Boticelli, Canaletto and other well-known masters, but there are also other spectacular paintings that are less well-known. This gallery is worth a visit if you are in Bergamo.

Spent the best part of a day here, enjoying many wonderful paintings and sculptures There wasn't enough time to see everything in detail but we felt that we'd had our money's worth. There was a restaurant, small cafe and a green space (PwC gardens) open to the public so keep your tickets hand if you go there as you need them to get back into the museum.

Accademia Carrara – calm, elegant, and truly impressive Note: Large bags are not allowed inside, but there’s a secure locker area at the entrance. The lockers are spacious enough to fit a full backpack – I’ve added a photo for reference. Visited without a reservation – tickets were easy to get on site. The gallery is beautifully curated and not too crowded, offering space to enjoy the art in peace. The collection spans from early Renaissance to 19th-century masters, including works by Botticelli, Raphael, Mantegna, and Bellini. Expect mostly paintings, with a few sculptures and decorative pieces. The atmosphere is refined, the lighting is great, and the building itself adds to the experience. Highly recommended if you're into classical art and need a break from tourist noise.

Beautiful gallery that is definitely worth visiting during your stay in Bergamo.

It was a surprise! The gallery is extremely rich with invaluable exhibits and represents all the art eras. 10/10 fully recommended.

Wonderful art museum for painting lovers. We took cover there from the rain and spent a few beautiful hours. They feature Hayez, Botticelli, and Raphael. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great temporary exhibitions as well.

Campanone, also known as the Civic Tower, is a medieval tower located in Bergamo's Upper Town. Standing at over 52 meters high, it was built in the 12th century and offers panoramic views of the old town and its mountainous surroundings. Visitors can access the observation deck via a staircase with around 230 steps or take an elevator for convenience.
The best vantage point in Bergamo! Highly recommended if you would like to get a really nice panoramatic view of Bergamo and it's surroundings. The tower itself has a lift built-in nowadays which takes almost to the very top. You then just need to climb a few steps to get to the bell floor for best possible sightseeing experience.

Such towers were very popular all over northern Italy during the medieval ages. They expressed the wealth of families who built it, but very few remained today. This tower is in the very center of Bergamo upper town, on the main Piazza Vecchia square. Entry ticket of 7 Euros includes climbing the top with an elevator, as well a small archaeological museum down. Views from up (there're two platforms) are stunning, with both upper and lower Bergamo, as well half Lombardy on a clear day
Dejan B — Google review
Probably the highlight of my day in Bergamo! I arrived 5 minutes before they opened the doors and I had the tower for myself for about 10 minutes. The view is truly spectacular! Tickets are only a couple of euros and you can also combine the campanone and the museum inside which was interesting but the view is what makes it so worth visiting!

Hearing the bell ring while soaking in those amazing views of Bergamo—that’s a cool moment!
Zongle — Google review
Amazing view from the top of the tower and a very good interactive museum.
Martin K — Google review
🎫 Currently 7 euros but includes 3 parts to the visit. Stunning tower right in the main square, 52.76m high. You can walk up or take the elevator, handy! The views are wow 🔔 Then you can visit the remains of the Podesta Palace of the family, some ruins and then a lovely little museum on the history of Bergamo 'Museo Delle Stories di Bergamo". Lots of activities going on this year in general. Definitely worth it!

Stopped by the is town on the way from Milan to Garda. It were many things to do, to shop and good food around. Bought 12 Euro ticket/person to go in Campanone which this same ticket can be used to access another 4 museums nearby as well. The exhibition has been presented brilliantly, so we enjoyed everything here a lot. The only down side is that it all in Italian so we had to use translation application most of the time.

Buy a combined ticket online for the historical museum which includes this Bell's tower. Incredible view from the top with elevator access if needed. A must to discover the beauty of the old city and the nearby hills.

If you love beer, DeGusto is the perfect place to visit in Bergamo. Offering a great range of bottled and draft beers, you will be spoilt for choice. The restaurant also offers a delicious food menu that includes different vegetarian options. Overall, DeGusto is a cozy and comfortable place to spend your evening.
Incredible experience. Its like a very good wine restaurant but with beer and ciders on the menu. Very original, distinguish selection of bottles. Food is outstanding! Hiden spot filled with locals

We had an amazing dinner here- we had no idea we were going to have such a culinary experience and the food really wowed. The staff are clearly passionate about food and were very friendly, and were incredibly accosting of our toddler. Thank you- would highly recommend!

The whole experience in this restaurant was perfect. Since we walked in we felt so very welcome. Mauro took time to tell us about the menu with absolutely no rush. You could taste the chef Luca's passion for food. Food was delicious with unique taste, and I hate that I live in different country and I won't be getting anything like this untill I come back to Bergamo. Ask for recommendations and enjoy, your expectations will be exceed. Thank you!

Juicy burger, great cider!

This is a place you don't want to miss! Mauro is an amazing person, who took the time to explain the menu for us with his own personal suggestions. The food was amazing and offered something completely new - without being too expensive. The attention to detail in flavours and cooking techniques was on point. You can see (and taste) chef Luca's passion for food. Will definitely come back again!

Impronte is a renowned restaurant in Bergamo, led by the talented chef Cristian Fagone. His diverse menu reflects his passion for Sicilian cuisine and international influences, using only seasonal Italian ingredients of the highest quality. The dishes range from ventresca with mussels and provola cheese to innovative creations like spaghetti with sea urchins and lemon. Impronte has recently earned its first Michelin star, solidifying its status as a top culinary destination.
Amazing Sicilian Experience Amazing food from the Sicilian chef. Unique flavors and preparation. The varying elegant sourness in different dishes tickles the taste buds. The pigeon was cooked to perfection. And the oysters were amazing. Every dish unique and still fitting into a growing storyline of important flavors. Great wine pairing and super attentive service Passulé

The space is beautiful and the service is great. They offer many complimentary treats courtesy of the chef; however the food was hit or miss. The appetizer flight on the map was phenomenal but many of the other dishes we had were underwhelming in taste but very well presented. I have mixed feelings as the staff were fantastic but I think overall it was overpriced. The esthetics were better than the taste.
Sanam L — Google review
The restaraunt is located in a bit of an odd location at an old bus depot and we were puzzled walking up here. Once you get inside you forget about the neighbourhood though. The old bus depot was more intimate than we expected and the food was ... outstanding. We had 8 dishes as well as the wine pairing (7 glasses) and it was an amazing experience with a lot of food from Sicily that we had no prior knowledge of or experience with. Absolutely the best we had in Bergamo.

Outstanding sicilian chef and cusine. To recommend the rich, fresh and tasty crudité de mer. Amazing food quality and presentations. Impeccable service, professional and friendly at the same time.

Waiters were very rude. They technically asked me to leave because I didn’t finish all my plates. When I ordered balsamic they refused. When I go to a restaurant I expect to eat however and whatever I want, nevertheless a michelin star restaurant. Edit after France’s response: Frances, Your defensive reply further confirms my initial impression of your restaurant. It's disappointing to see that you fail to understand the importance of customer service and respect. As a paying customer, I have the right to express my opinions and experiences, whether positive or negative. It's unfortunate that you struggle to handle constructive criticism without becoming defensive. Your condescending tone and refusal to acknowledge any wrongdoing only reinforce the negative experience I had at your so called michelin star restaurant. It's clear that you lack the professionalism and humility required to run a successful business. I strongly suggest you reflect on your approach to customer feedback. Remember, it is the customers who ultimately determine the success or failure of your restaurant. Dismissing their opinions with such arrogance will only drive them away.
Alanoud A — Google review
One of the best restaurant I have ever been before. Excellent food and service. With every next dish you become more and more speechless. If I would be able to give Michelin stars - I will give all the team 3***! Definitely we will be back! Thank you very much!
Marta S — Google review
Very good food, thats no discussion. We had the tasting menu. The tempo of the courses was very high. We asked to take some more time between the courses, but that was not possible?? They only serve wine or water. There is no other possibility for people who doesn’t drink alcohol or for children. Unbelievable that a michelin star restaurant has no alternative (juices, mocktails, infusion or soft drinks).
