The Calanques de Piana, also known as the Calanques of Piana, are a striking series of red granite rock formations located near the town of Piana on the western coast of Corsica. These dramatic cliffs have been shaped over millions of years by wind and water erosion, resulting in unique and breathtaking formations that have become iconic images of Corsica.
Cyclists and walkers alike will enjoy the vistas better if they go downhill. 😉

Makes for a beautiful, and interesting drive. The roads are very narrow in places and many of the passing points get filled with other road users opportunistically using them as parking so they can get photos of the views, which means you need to be careful of people on the road as well. We ended up driving through in both directions at about 6pm. The roads weren't too busy and worth it for the views. We then parked at the tête de chien (small roadside parking on both sides of the road, space for 10-15 cars in total.) The walk from there is very pleasant and marked with yellow spray paint at key turning points. If you are confident and careful enough, there are some very impressive views to be had by taking a few steps off the track and pushing through the shrubs at certain places.
Alexander P — Google review
Its a beautiful, astonishing road along the west coast of Corsica but be ready for a very patience and careful drive! There could be goats&cows on tje road as well as very vwry narrow road above the coast. Be careful.
Anja P — Google review
Spectacular rocks with the street moving in between. Parc the car on the side of the road and take a little walk along the street. Pay attention to driving cars.

A must see when youre visiting Corsica, breathtaking sculptrual rock formations cascading above the sea.
Fidelma H — Google review
Beautiful drive from Piana to Porto through the Calanques de Piana. Outstanding views.
Jyrki H — Google review
Quite nice location, small curvy roads, we passed by on our way to the south east of Corsica in September outside the saison but still a lot of traffic, especially the camper vans .Landscape and ambience is beautiful, traffic is annoying
Christian S — Google review
Awesome eroded red rock formations, many looking ready to break loose! Beautiful views with sheer drops to the sea. Grab any and all small parking spots then walk usually less than 100m to get best views. Drive careful on the many blind corners!

If you're looking for a picturesque hiking experience, consider exploring the Ancien Chemin des Muletiers - Caminu Anticu di i Mulatteri. The trail begins about 500 meters south of a cafe near the Madonna statue and offers a 1.5 km route through rocky terrain, with some steep sections at the start. The path eventually joins the D 81 further south, providing stunning views of incredibly gorgeous cliffs along the way.
From almost the south pole in Patagonia, to Everest base camp, it was the most exiting ride. Just on the road. I envy those who can take any of the walking trails. Unique.

Incredibly gorgeous cliffs!!
Sarmite B — Google review
Great hike with a very steep ascent. It's not a long hike but the ascent itself is so steep that you need to be reasonably fit to do this. You will have trouble parking here because, well, there is no parking here. I started at the other side, where there's a big parking lot at the Stade Municipal. I walked back over the road which offers magnificent views. The odd thing is that I didn't finish the trail here but a little further down the road (right across from a cliff side restaurant; Les Roches Blue, with amazing views, a great place to end your hike), which makes me believe this trail splits up into two.

Tête d'homme

Tête d'homme is a breathtaking area in Corsica that offers stunning views of the historical landscape. The entire region is awe-inspiring, with plenty of opportunities to stop, marvel at the scenery, and take photos. The area's historical significance adds to its grandeur, making visitors feel small and reverent in its presence. It's recommended for every visitor to Corsica as it provides a truly spectacular experience.

Les Roches Bleues is a charming cafe with a panoramic terrace offering breathtaking views of the Calanques de Piana. It's recommended to visit in the late afternoon for an unbeatable setting and surprisingly good food. While some visitors found the service to be average, many were impressed by the exceptional view and quality of food. The cafe is also praised for its kind and welcoming staff, making it a must-stop spot for breakfast or drinks.

Excellent food, breathtaking views and great atmosphere. It is well worth the visit. Waiters are very nice, but the service slips occasionally.
Charles L — Google review
Food really good, exceptional view, but service was average like in many places where they hire young non-professionals. Main plate got served during aperitif, wine bottle not opened... water forgotten twice and never received. But would go back for the quality food and the truly exceptional spot.
Ron N — Google review
Lunch with my wife. Food was really first class, the view is extraordinary. Perched on the side of a mountain in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Unique.
Mark W — Google review
Loud music, unattentive staff, no water brought to the table, wine opened but not served, ‘10h cooked’ lamb still loaded with fat and wrong order of mojitos with rotten mint and no sugar or taste of the rhum (basically an expensive glass full of ice and a slice of lime) - should have been one classic and a ‘fraise’. Very disappointing because the view is spectacular.

Plage de Ficaghjola, located in the Gulf of Porto, is a stunning beach nestled among red-hued rocks and offering breathtaking views of the Corsican coastline. The area is known for its dramatic landscape where the Mediterranean meets mountainous peaks. Visitors can explore over 23km of trails, with the Chemin Muletier being a recommended option for flat paths and panoramic vistas.
For a dutchman the ride to this beach is quite the adventure. But it’s extremely worth it! It’s by far the most beautiful spot we’ve been on the mid-west coast. We visited in May and there were only a handful of people. And apparently the super lovely beachhouse is for rent? Couldn’t find info about it though.
Matthijs B — Google review
A truly great beach! It's a steeper downhill road from the mainroad which is ~10min drive. The parking is pretty big (and free) but could be full in high season. A 5-10min walk to the beach (doable on flipflops) and you are there. There is a small cliffdive possible and the gravel is a nice change from the sand.
Luuk — Google review
Stunning snorkelling BUT only for confident, experienced drivers. Shade possible until lunchtime. Be careful of the nutters jumping from high up off the cliffs on the RHS.
Adrian W — Google review
You have to walk from parking aprox 10minutes down the hill but it is absolutely worth. Beautiful (small)beach, for me one of the nicest in Corsica
Tomaž J — Google review
Beautiful smallish sandy beach with a small stream trickling to it from the mountain. Very steep climb down to the beach, not recommended if carrying lots of stuff. Free car park. Free porta-toilet (at the car park, not on the beach).
Marko B — Google review
Hidden beach accessed by car through a narrow road with many turns. Despite this, the beach is totally worth the drive. Not crowded, turquoise water, clean, and surrounded by rocks. Saved as favorite in Corse

Very nice place. Hidden between the rocks. Road down there full of curves, be careful when driving up and down but it is worth to go there at least for a while. No fee for parking but limited number of parking slots.

Great place, best views in town, lovely personel, nice music and great lounge chairs. We didn't eat, but the food did look great. Felt super relax as you don't hear any cars but do have amazing view over the whole bay.

The view, food, drinks and attention are sublime. Be sure to make a reservation in advance because they get fully booked and with good reason. We dropped as walk ins in our route to Ajaccio and while they tried to accommodate us, it would have been very late to get back on the road. However, they were able to give us a table for drinks and we also had a charcuterie and cheese platter, all local and delicious. Definitely need to come back for dinner!
Grettel R — Google review
Worth a glass, not dinner..We were put in a corner full of wasps, had to call several times to order, when the food arrived we got no plates and later no cutlery. Our children didn’t want to eat because of cold food and wasps..and when we said that it was not the best service, they didn’t even offer the children ice cream to compensate - even though it’s part of the children’s menu. The boss was even rude in stead of apologising. View is spectacular, though.

We walked in and happened to get the last available table, next time we would book ahead just to be sure. We were spoiled with fantastic service, excellent local wine suggestions and delicious food, and topped off with an amazing sunset.

Nestled in the stunning coastal town of Piana, Hotel Capo Rosso offers a serene escape with breathtaking sea views from its relaxed rooms, many of which feature private terraces. The hotel is perfectly situated just a short stroll from iconic natural wonders like Calanques de Piana and Scandola Reserve, making it an ideal base for exploring Corsica's majestic landscapes.
Amazing and very special stay for us. The staff went above and beyond to help me plan a special dinner to celebrate my girlfriend and I getting engaged. Letitia was very patient and informative over email to help plan the dinner with some other great tips regarding the local area and where I might want to pop the question. Anna looked after us on the evening and did a very good job making sure we had everything we needed and proactively asking if we wanted some pictures taken and if we wanted to move inside once the incredible sunset had gone done. The hotel itself was very clean and quiet and a great place to stay if you are planning to visit the area. Plenty of free parking with a short walk into Piana or up the famous Calanques de Piana road with some lovely half day hikes in the surrounding mountains.

Pros: - Great location and stunning view - Good breakfast - Clean room Cons: - Shared Spaces: The pool was frequently dirty in the afternoons, with hair at the bottom. There was no service to clean up; leftover food and trash were left out, attracting ants. Additionally, some of the stairs had broken tiles, which was concerning. - Bedroom:The room was disappointing, with stains everywhere and outdated and damaged furniture. Despite paying over $300 per night for a "superior" room, the quality was far below expectations. - Service: The staff was not welcoming or caring; for instance the woman at the reception did not ask how was our stay at the check-out. Also, I attempted to express my dissatisfaction on more occasions, but no one was able to address my concerns (they had to speak with the manager that apparently wasn't there). I even injured my finger, and the hotel had no proper first aid supplies—only providing me with a bandage and electrical tape, claiming it was medical tape. Additionally, the staff had a poor command of English, making communication difficult. - Meals: The coffee machine was terrible, and the breakfast area was overrun by wasps, with staff seemingly unconcerned about it. I did not try the restaurant due to these issues.
Matilde Z — Google review
- Great location and stunning view - Great hikes - Beaches in close proximity - Good breakfast - The Neptune restaurant has a good chef but the staff de salle has little to no experience (perhaps due to lack of restoration workers in France!) - Cleanness - Bedroom: not a 4-star level, outdated and damaged furniture, old mattress, broken safe. We mentioned an issues with the A/C that hasn’t been fixed. - Surprised that they don’t have an environmental-friendly policy about the use of towels, which were changed daily with immense waste of water, energy and soap.

We spent a week this May at the Hotel Capo Rosso in Piana, Corsica, and couldn't have been happier with the hotel's services. Our room had a dramatic view overlooking miles of coastline, and the bed and bath were both of excellent quality. We very happy we took half pension at the hotel's restaurant La Table de Neptune- both its main and its pastry chefs are very talented, and its service excellent (special thanks to Machu!). The dishes used very fresh, healthy ingredients, and were presented like pieces of art. What a joy to dine watching glorious sunsets over the sea! We enjoyed many excursions, including hikes, a glorious boat trip visiting the Piana Calanches, and several beautiful coastal drives. Corsica is such a beautiful island, and the area around Piana is one of the nicest. The hotel is located on a very quiet hillside, so the location is not only beautiful but serene. The walk to town is less than 10 min. We wish the hotel a wonderful future!
Helene E — Google review
Hotel has spectacular view from the room and the restaurant. Room was small but enough. Dinner with the view if you would want to sit and enjoy the sunset. This would be perfect. The pork dish was too chewy for me. The chef changed it to fish then it was fantastic! Excellent service minded staffs. Breakfast was very good, again with the view of Piana.
Kasree C — Google review
Very, very disappointing experience. You would expect that a room costing 200€ a night would at least have clean bathroom - not even the case with bath joints covered by black moist. Rooms are old, ugly, with old furniture collected from different places / different styles. I would not allow a hotel which clearly needs refurbishing to operate in 2023, and with +++ prices. I do not recommend this hotel.
Ieva B — Google review
First off, some of the most spectacular views I've ever enjoyed. As stated in multiple other reviews the rooms are a bit dated and there were some leaks in the bathroom requiring putting extra towels on the floor. The sunset view from the restaurant was fantastic - Unfortunately the food wasn't. The views aside, not really worth the price.

If you're in the mood for seafood and a beachside ambiance, make your way to Restaurant U Pescadore. This establishment offers the best menu among three choices on the shore, ensuring a fantastic lunch experience with great service. Indulge in their seafood linguine packed with additional muscles, razor clams, and a large prawn. It would be wonderful if more lunches could match this level of satisfaction!
We had a good time! Great location. Good vibes. Nice menu (a bit on the expensive side but it's an experience, right?). Perfect for sundowners, feet in the beach pebbles.

Lovely. The best menu of the three choices on the beach led us to a fabulous lunch with delightful service. Seafood linguine loaded with extra muscles, razor clams and a giant prawn. I almost lost hope of finding a genuine local restaurant in the very touristy village of Porto until we stumbled across this little gem of a restaurant. This seems to be the last place representing the little fishing village that Porto once was. Family run with an excellent chef and one of the few places to find freshly cooked local fish. For those who are not so keen on fish, the faux fillet with home made chips was excellent. Location is very zen on the beach with driftwood decoration.

Pleasant location with a beach view, more (or less) helpful staff and excellent food. 👍 The menu is not very large, but hey - it's called Pescadore, so you should expect some fish. 🤭 I can recommend a fish of the day (we had a delicious sea wolf) and gambas (shrimps). They accept credit cards. 👍

Was an awesome trip showing us the best parts of the coast. The captain did a great job keeping everyone comfortable and even translated to English for me. They did some crazy manoeuvres, which customers seems to expect. But they always made sure everyone is ok. It is also one of the few companies where you don't need a life vest on the boat.
Thorsten T — Google review
i was the only english speaker on the tour and the guide did such a wonderful job of taking the time to explain everything to me separately. since i love geology, I’m so glad he did. it was so interesting!! did the big tour. just wow. plus the mini speedboat thing at the end was really fun. Merci!!

We had a very exciting boat trip with Adrenaline Corse. The captain has a lot to say about what you see along the way. Also the boat (which is fast but not too large) can get everywhere, even inside caves! Adrenaline Corse is definitely the company I would recommend!

Lovely experience..... and the lunch was excellent. Thanks to the crew for a wonderful day despite of the windy and wavy conditions 😉

Amazing experience, with a great captain! We had booked for another day, but were contacted in advance to change it, due to risk of bad weather (which turned out to be true). Instead of a morning tour, we went in the afternoon. During the 4hr trip we experienced Corsican music, all the different cliffs and grottos, as well as the beautiful village of Ghirolata. The highlight, however, was seeing dolphins in the sunset. An experience we will remember for a long time.

Amazing place with gorgeous views of the Porto bay and the surrounding red rocks and forests. The service is top-notch, which can also guess the customer's tastes and, last but not least, the chef is excellent

Definitely a five star and not a 4.1. Some of the 1 star reviews were about unfriendly service/reception which we couldn‘t confirm. Our service was great. One of the best, if not the best place we ate so far in Corsica.

What a beautiful place to eat. Such kind and nice service. And probably the best food we had on the island. Perfectly seasoned and cooked meat. Everything is made fresh. Dessert to die for. Lovely wine. We had a great time, thank you!

Capo d’orto

5.0
(18)
Hiking area
Capo d'Orto is a challenging yet rewarding hiking destination in Piana. The 6-hour round trip from the stadium of Piana is recommended for experienced hikers, offering breathtaking views over the entire Cape of Porto. The trail can be tough towards the end but is definitely worth it. Additionally, there's a 3-hour climb from Funtana a l'ora camp, suitable even for families with small children, although the upper part becomes rocky.
Perfect hike with amazing views on portu and all surrounding mountains. However the path is hard, the sections with walking on rocks so it is not for someone who is not used to more demanding trails. You have to follow the cairns to get to the top, otherwise you can get lost quick. Apps help a lot.

(Translated by Google) Great hike with phenomenal summit views of the sea, the depths and the mountains. The last 300m shouldn't be a problem for an Alpine hiker, but yes you have to climb lightly... The heat in summer is more of a challenge, so it's better to start early and take plenty of water with you. (Original) Tolle Wanderung mit phänomenalem Gipfelblick aufs Meer, in die Tiefen und in die Berge. (Translated by Google) We set off at 7:30 a.m. and were the first to reach the summit. We had the summit to ourselves for a good hour until the next hikers arrived. My motto in the mountains is to be on the way back before noon. We encountered many others on the way down in the hot midday sun. I wouldn't recommend it. It gets too hot in those rocks. (Original) Wir sind um 0730 Uhr los gelaufen und waren die ersten auf dem Gipfel. Diesen hatten wir dann auch eine gute Stunde alleine bis die nächsten Wanderer gekommen sind. (Translated by Google) A beautiful walk along an easy but not trivial, well-marked trail (but not to be missed or underestimated in bad weather). The mountain can be reached from at least three points located at different elevations on the panoramic road to Piana. From wherever you start (about 4-500 meters above sea level), there's about 850 meters of elevation gain (and a thousand meters of elevation gain) over a distance of about 6 km. The trail starts steeply in the woods and then, at about 800 meters above sea level, levels out with a gentle up and down, offering fantastic views of the area's polished granite rocks, amidst ferns and sparse Mediterranean scrub. Here, all the trails rejoin in a final, steeper section toward the summit (follow the cairns, but be careful not to get lost in the maze of paths). Be aware that this section features some very simple, but still rocky, sections, so be careful with children. The summit, at 1300 meters, is marked by a wooden cross. The view of Porto is truly breathtaking. I recommend hiking boots or trail running shoes. No flip-flops. There's no rain on the trail, and it's hot in the summer. Start early in the morning so it's completely shaded because it faces west. Have a great trip. No ciabatte. Non c'è acqua sul percorso e in estate è caldino. Partire al mattino presto così è tutto in ombra perchè esposto a ovest. Buona gita.

Antenne-relais is a stunning viewpoint located at the top of Piana, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the village, snowy mountains, and the merging of sky and sea. It's an ideal spot to witness breathtaking sunsets. The area is tranquil with occasional hikers passing through. However, it's important to note that there are high-frequency antennas and a powerful radar in the vicinity.

Embark on an unforgettable sea journey with Neptune Cruise Ajaccio to explore the stunning natural beauty of Capo Rosso, including Scandola, Girolata, and Piana's coves. The hike to the Genoese tower offers breathtaking views and unique panoramas throughout the ascent. While the path is relatively easy for most of the way, the final stretch involves some challenging climbing over steep and rocky terrain.
Some of the best views I ve ever seen. I suggest to start early, before sun becomes too strong. Also, most of the way is rather easy, just a walk on some rocky road, however the last part just before the tower is basically climbing (steep, walking on large rocks, hard to see path sometimes). The climbing part takes about 30-40min. The whole path to the tower takes 2h. Going back is much faster, and easier than it looks. We came back in 1.15h without stressing it too much.

Big parking for start of the hike to the Genovese watch tower. We were here in July and it was really hot. So do not forget to bring enough water with you. Hike itself is not so difficult, but one must pay attention were is the path. Luckily after return there is small food truck with cold drinks and even some food.

Well worth the effort. 3 miles or 5 km hike to the tower surrounded by sea. This is not an easy hike, especially when it s sunny and hot.

We walked this path to the cape in May 2018 and it was a wonderful experience. The views are stunning and the smell of flowers (orchids) and herbs is so overwhelming. On a sunny day, bring plenty of water to drink because it gets hot once you're climbing the rocks in the last stage to the watchtower.

We’d planned on doing the whole Capo Rosso hike, but we had a bit of a late start to our day and didn’t have much in the way of water so we decided to just enjoy the view from the parking area. The drive up to the départ alone was gorgeous!! The best views on our entire Corsica trip with cute little goats all around. There’s a little bar in this parking area too, so you could easily drive up, enjoy the view, and be on your merry way :)

Le Belvédère is a charming restaurant located at an altitude of 500m in the heart of the Corsican maquis, offering breathtaking views of the Bay of Ajaccio. The dining room with its wooden beams and the panoramic terrace provide a perfect setting to savor local cuisine. The menu features delightful dishes such as fish soup, dorade filet, and mouthwatering desserts like Mouse au Chocolat. The friendly staff and generous portions add to the overall pleasant dining experience.
Everything was Excellent! I had a menu consisting of good fish soup, an even better Mouse au Chocolat, but the best part was the dorade filet in the middle. They put it with some mushrooms into some sort of burger with the bread consisting of puff pastry and it was incredible. Also the waiter wasn't only nice, but also funny and entertaining.

You really pay for the beautiful view over the port. Food quality is not high enough to justify the price. I was disappointed. Tiramisu was obviously from frozen. Gelified texture.. Do not recommend.

Located in Porto Ota, Restaurant A Stretta offers an original cuisine cooked on a plancha. Situated on a bustling pedestrian street, the restaurant showcases a menu that highlights seafood and tempts passersby. Run by Cathy and Bruno, this charming couple describes themselves as culinary experimenters. The scorpion fish is highly recommended, particularly when paired with a glass of white wine. While the service was satisfactory, it could have been slightly faster to accommodate those accustomed to city life.
A very friendly and unique place that we had never expected here in Porto. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner. Simply everything was on the point, all homemade with love, and absolutely delicious. Btw. don't even think about not taking a dessert. It'll just blow you away. Fortunately, we have one day left in Porto, and hopefully we can have another dinner here. Big thank you to the chef!

Decent restaurant. Tried the scorpion fish, which went well with a glass of white wine. Service was good as well (not sure if I'm still on NYC mode, but could have been quicker, but guess island time...its about right).

Interesting setting. We had dinner, and the place was (luckily?) almost empty. We ordered some pasta with curry and seafood - we did not see any particular local cuisine on the menu. The fish seemed fresh, but the dishes were completely unsalted. Overall the place was not very clean, and food was definitely overpriced.

Le Scandola Hotel

Le Scandola Hotel is a relaxed and modern hotel located in Piana, offering refined double rooms with sea-view balconies. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable, providing exceptional views of the creeks of Piana. Guests can enjoy a great restaurant on-site and take advantage of free breakfast and parking. The hotel also features amenities such as free Wi-Fi access, a garden, and a bar serving tapas.
A warm welcome, excellent service and a nice view from the terrace. Must be one of the best hotels in Corsica. Do not hesitate to book a room at this hotel.
Per D — Google review
The view from this hotel is lovely, but you’re better off staying elsewhere if your room is on the first floor and you are sensitive to synthetic, pungent fragrances. When we requested a room swap, we were told all the rooms at the hotel smell the same; however, the other 2/3 rooms we checked did not have the exact same smell/pungency. Additionally, we found the breakfast to be overpriced for what was offered and the furniture to be different from what was featured in photos (e.g., inflatable chairs on the terrace). If you aren’t able to afford a room off the first floor, this would be better off as a view/drink stop rather than an overnight experience.
Kat — Google review
We had a great stay - sweet views from the room - which was on the ground floor a close to the road, but there was no traffic at night and very little during the day. The staff was excellent - they've even offered to pack us a lunch for our hike up Capu d'Orto. Breakfast was easily the best for our entire stay in Corsica. Home-made sweet and savory cakes! The upper floor rooms have better views, but the ground floor rooms have a massive (semi-)private terrace.
Karsten R — Google review
Great hotel - wonderfull location, nice modern rooms, extended breakfast (best we had in Corsica), stay for dinner (great food , all own made at very sharp price) but most of all : fantastic service ! This is how you need to manage a hotel
Kurt A — Google review
We spent one night here in the Superior Room “Influencer” on the second floor. Breath taking view and modern room. Breakfast was very nice too. However, we found the price tag too high for what we got. 275€ (incl. Breakfast) in mid of june - no pool, no elevator, no spa. So, apparently, you really expected to pay for the view. We then found that other hotels offer rooms with a similar view at around 185€ - we can’t judge their room quality though. We would not stay here again at this price.
Niko L — Google review
The hotel has the most magnificent view to Calanches de Piana and the sea. The room was spacious and clean and the area is calm. I advise you to call them directly for the reservation as the breakfast is included in their night's price as on booking.com, for example, it is not and then you have to pay extra to have breakfast.
Daniela T — Google review
The hotel is perfectly located. From the terrace where you can have breakfast and dinner, the view is great. Furthermore the rooms are clean and beautiful. However, the friendliness of the staff depends. Some people receive large smiles and others (like us) don't. We were of to a bad start as apparently you have to check in between 15 and 18h which was not possible for us as our plane arrived late. Therefore our tour of the hotel was very brief and without even the slightest smile. This remained the case throughout the remainder of our stay. The man running the restaurant on the other hand is very friendly, however the food isn't great. Luckily the view makes up for it.
Dries D — Google review
Not a hotel for couples. A distinctly “motelly” vibe with dated decor and faded balding carpet in the common areas. I paid for three nights but left after two; just couldnt take another night. I relied too much on the high rating, the fact that the room cost $250/night (not super cheap for Corsica), and didn’t scrutinize the photos adequately; lesson learned. The breakfast terrasse has a stunning view.
