Kalkara in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Kalkara, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Kalkara is a quiet harbor town facing Valletta, offering wide views of the Grand Harbour and easy access to Malta’s historic core. It’s known for Fort Rinella, a 19th‑century British coastal fortification that houses one of the world’s largest historic artillery pieces, and for nearby Fort Ricasoli, often used as a film location. Rinella Bay provides a small sandy beach and swimming spot, while the waterfront promenade and village streets show a more traditional, residential side of Malta than the main resort areas.
With favorites like The Malta Experience, Dimitri Valletta, and Tiffany's Bistro, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like one80 St.Christopher Str. Valletta and The Submarine so you can get the best taste of Kalkara while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Upper Barrakka is a picturesque public square and garden in Valletta, Malta, offering stunning harbor views and a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as the St James Cavalier Arts Centre, the National Museum of Archaeology with its famous 5000+ years old 'fat lady' statuettes, St. John's Cathedral with Caravaggio paintings, and the Grandmaster's Palace.
This is definitely our highlight of the holiday! Especially if you're staying in Valletta this is simply a must see as it is a free attraction and absolutely breathtaking, it is so pretty and well kept however does get busy at Saluting Battery. There is a cafe at the top which is good for snacks and drinks and there are a lot of seats available. We visited end of May and it was getting quite busy and the weather was very hot in the day time so maybe give it a visit early to avoid crowds but it is stunning!

Excellent site to see the Grand Harbour of Malta. Peaceful place of flowering beauty to quiet the mind. At the overlook you can witness the Saluting Battery-traditional firing of a single canon at Noon and 4pm daily. It is impressive and loud! The firing was once used to welcome and set time for vessels in the harbour.
Susan C — Google review
Great fortress and a beautiful old Valletta. Salute battery remains an attraction - be there at noon. Historical place with a strategic location at the bay and the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and short distance to North African coast and Italy.
Detelin D — Google review
Upper Barrakka Gardens is absolutely breathtaking! The panoramic views over the Grand Harbour are simply unforgettable, especially during sunset. The gardens are beautifully maintained, peaceful, and full of history. Watching the Saluting Battery was a highlight of the visit. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, this is the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of Malta. Highly recommended!
Wimarshana B — Google review
Beautiful! Not very big. If you go at 12 and 4 pm they shoot the cannons which is cool. You can pay extra to go to the lower level and be right up close.
Rukia Y — Google review
The Upper Barrakka Gardens are a truly beautiful and peaceful place to visit while in Valletta. With stunning views over the Grand Harbour and across to the Three Cities, it’s an ideal spot for photos, relaxing, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. The architecture and layout of the gardens are impressive, and there’s a certain charm in the combination of nature and history that makes this place special. However, it’s important to keep in mind that during the high season, the gardens can get quite crowded, especially around midday when most tourists arrive. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, try visiting early in the morning or later in the evening. One detail worth noting is that the traditional cannon firing ceremony, which normally happens daily at noon, does not take place on Sundays. So if that’s something you were looking forward to, plan accordingly. Also, while the Upper Barrakka Gardens are beautiful, don’t forget to check out the Lower Barrakka Gardens as well. They are just as lovely, offer equally impressive views, and tend to be less crowded. It’s a great alternative if you’re hoping to avoid the tourist rush and enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere in the heart of Valletta.
Tosia D — Google review
It was an interesting visit to this beautiful and historic public garden known for their panoramic views of the Grand Harbour. History: Originally a private garden for the Knights of Saint John in the 16th century, they became a public garden in 1800. Views: Situated at the highest point of the city walls, they offer panoramic views of the Grand Harbour, the Three Cities, and the shipyard. Saluting Battery: Below the gardens is the Saluting Battery, where cannons are fired daily at noon and 4 pm (except Sundays) as a ceremonial salute. Notable Features: The gardens feature terraced arches dating back to 1661, as well as various monuments, memorials (including one for Sir Winston Churchill), and a replica of the "Les Gavroches" statue.

Very nice terrace that dominates the port of Valleta. If you came via the port, you can just walk to the zebra cross and go via the tunnel to get the lift ticket (1€). A little bit crowded but still interesting 👍

St. John's Co-Cathedral, completed in 1578, is a lavishly decorated place of worship filled with marble and European masterpieces. It is home to Caravaggio's renowned painting 'The Beheading of St John,' making it a baroque masterpiece. The cathedral shares its seat with St Paul's Cathedral in Mdina and stands out as one of the few co-cathedrals that actually includes the term in its name.
This Cathedral is a MUST!! I’ve visited a million churches but St. John’s is on my top 10 most beautiful in the world. It’s basically a museum when it comes to art. I “kinda” regretted not coming to mass, the more spiritual atmosphere seems so appropriate, but my schedule was tight. PURCHASE tickets in advance!! The live for pre-purchased tickets was only like 5-10 mins long. The last minute line was huge, instead. The Belfry requires reservations and separate tkt. The visits end around 15:00 (3PM). DO: Cover your shoulders: both sexes must do so. They can give you a ridiculous plastic shawl at the door, if you forgot that you are going to a church: modesty people! 😇 You don’t want to be that geek. Bermudas are ok, short shorts no. DON’T: Bring liquids other than a small bottle of water. Get ready to have your backpack inspected by security and wear it in front of you, also great to avoid pickpockets, although Malta is super safe, there’s always a bad apple 🍎

My Experience at St. John’s Co-Cathedral Even after living in Malta for twenty years, every time I enter St. John’s Co-Cathedral, I feel the same sense of wonder, as if I am stepping into a sacred dream. This place is truly gem; it holds a presence that is both powerful and peaceful. The golden walls shimmer with history, and the silence feels alive, filled with centuries of faith and devotion. The pavimento, with its intricate marble inlays, tells another story beneath my feet rest the tombs of the Knights and the clerics of the Order. Each stone is like a chapter of history, each symbol a reminder of honor, sacrifice, and belief. It feels as though their spirits still guard this holy place. And then, there is Caravaggio’s masterpiece, The Beheading of St. John the Baptist. No matter how many times I stand before it, I am always struck by its intensity. The light and darkness, the raw humanity, the silence that follows the violence it all reaches deep into the soul. It’s not just a painting; it’s a revelation in each single detail. As an Italian who has called Malta home for two decades, this cathedral feels like a bridge between my origins and my adopted island. Every visit reminds me that beauty, faith, and art can transcend time and language. St. John’s Co-Cathedral is not only a monument it is a living, breathing miracle.

St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta is one of Malta's most breathtaking and historically significant landmarks. It's a place that often leaves visitors in awe, as its relatively plain, fortress-like exterior gives no hint of the breathtaking artistic treasure within. From the outside, the cathedral, built between 1573 and 1578, reflects the military and austere character of Valletta, a city built by the Knights of St. John. Its design is attributed to the Maltese military architect Girolamo Cassar. It looks more like a fortress than a church, which was a deliberate choice in a city preparing for potential siege. Stepping inside is a genuinely jaw-dropping experience. The interior was lavishly redecorated in the 17th century in the High Baroque style, creating a stark and dramatic contrast with the exterior. The entire interior is covered in incredibly detailed and ornate gold gilt, intricate carvings, and magnificent frescoes. The cathedral was built as the conventual church for the Knights of St. John (also known as the Knights Hospitaller). The term "Co-Cathedral" came into use later, as it shares the seat of the Archbishop of Malta with the older Cathedral of St. Paul in Mdina. The church was designed to serve the Order's eight langues (or "tongues")—regional divisions based on the knights' places of origin in Europe (e.g., Provence, Auvergne, France, Italy, Germany, etc.). Each langue had its own dedicated chapel within the cathedral, which they decorated in competition with one another, leading to the incredible richness of the art on display. Without a doubt, the most famous artistic treasure in the Co-Cathedral is "The Beheading of St. John the Baptist" by the revolutionary Italian master Caravaggio.

St. John’s Co-Cathedral is an **absolutely majestic and lavish masterpiece**. From the moment you step inside, you're surrounded by **ornate baroque architecture, gilded details, and stunning frescoes** that reflect the grandeur of Malta’s rich history. The site is **exceptionally well maintained**, and every corner tells a story. The **audio guide is available directly on your smartphone**, making the visit smooth and informative. It’s a great way to explore at your own pace while learning about the cathedral’s fascinating background. ⏳ **Tip**: Be sure to **buy your tickets online** in advance — it helps you **skip the queue at the entrance**, especially during peak hours. A must-see in Valletta for anyone interested in art, history, or simply breathtaking architecture!

One of the best decorated churches in the world. It holds many paintings, the most famous one being the Beheading of St. John by Carvaggio, which due to Googles safety policies, I'm unable to show in this review. There is a nice interactive area describing how and when Carvaggio painted it. €15 to get in on the day, buy online to skip the queue outside. The staff were friendly and polite.

One of the best place to visit when you are in Malta. I recommend buying tickets in advance (skip the line one). Ticket for children under 12 is free. There is audio guide available at each section. Once you scan the qr code, you can listen to it. For few sections photography is prohibited so be wary of that. Most sections can be photographed with flash turned off at all times. My favourite section was the Caravaggio one. His paintings are hauntingly beautiful and you get to understand the composition, technique etc of the art. The Caravaggio show is only held on few dates so check and book in advance is recommended.
Manjari J — Google review
A stunning 16th century cathedral with every part of the floor made of marble and virtually everything else covered in gold! There are two paintings by the classical artist Caravaggio, The Beheading of St John the Baptist and the painting of St Jerome, the first person to translate the Greek New Testament into Latin. The audio guide is excellent so have your phone with you as you’ll use that to listen (recommended you have AirPods or similar) It’s worth booking in advance and avoiding the middle of the day as there are large groups from the cruise ships so you’ll end up queueing for a while. Absolutely worth the visit, it’s a must-see in Valletta.

Magnificent, astonishing and must see cathedral. Two Caravaggio paintings are something you shouldn’t miss to see while in Valletta. It wasn’t very crowded when we visited and I recommend to buy the tickets online to skip the queue.

The National Museum of Archaeology is located in the historic Auberge de Provence, a 16th-century building. It showcases a diverse collection of prehistoric artifacts, weapons, and sculptures found on the Maltese islands. The museum provides an extensive overview of Malta's prehistory, spanning from the Neolithic period to the Phoenician period. Visitors can marvel at early tools, pottery, and various depictions of animals and human figures dating back thousands of years.
I was sad the Neolithic section was closed for construction, (I wanted to see the Venus!) but the areas available were well presented and interesting. The displays of coinage and medals throughout the centuries was very interesting to this numismatist! And I'm pretty sure that's an alien's skull in the display... you'll have to see for yourself!
Traci N — Google review
Some museums win you over with their collections, others with their architecture. This one does both, which frankly feels a bit greedy. Housed in a building so beautiful you could happily wander it empty, the museum is a reminder that the Maltese don’t do “ordinary” when it comes to stonework. The exhibitions are superbly curated — thoughtful, detailed, and arranged with a clear sense of storytelling. You move from prehistoric figurines to intricate artifacts with the feeling that someone has actually thought about the journey you’re on, rather than just shoving things in glass cases and hoping for the best. And yet, in the middle of all this, there’s the numismatic collection. Perfectly fine if you’re a coin enthusiast, but otherwise it’s a bit like finding a box of receipts in the middle of a grand opera. Interesting in its way, but it does feel like it wandered in from another museum and decided to stay. Still, that’s a minor quibble. Between the building itself, the sheer depth of the collection, and the skill with which it’s presented, this is one of those rare museums where you leave feeling smarter — and only partly because you spent two hours reading captions in your “educational” voice. Five stars, and I’d come back just to walk through that building again, coins and all.
Arik — Google review
We spent a lovely time at this museum. The entry costs 6 euros and gives you access to many exhibitions that tell the story of Maltese history, especially concerning its archaeological sites. There are other rooms in this historical building from the 1500s, where you can see more things, like coins and limited exhibitions. I think the visit is worth it.

Bottom section currently closed not sure for how long but upper level was open. There was still a lot of cool and interesting stuff to check out from various periods. The history is incredible. I would say a must see.

Next to the excavation site. Staffs are very helpful. Must see the faded painting of boat on the rock, well preserved at the museum. With some effort, you will be able to witness 4500 years old rock painting. unbelievable experience. Must go with family, kids would love this.

If you are visiting the archelogical sites, it's definetly recommended to do the museum girst to understand better what you ganna see. Most original figurines are gere and you will see the the fake ones at the sites.

We enjoyed the museum and found it informative. My only criticism was the poor lighting of the display cabinets. Many lights were not working. One beautiful little artifact was so dimly lit I couldn't read the information card.

Casa Rocca Piccola, a 16th-century palace in Valletta, Malta, is the ancestral home of a noble Maltese family. The mansion boasts over 50 opulent rooms and offers guided tours led by family members. Visitors are treated to an intimate experience as they are welcomed into the home by the Marquis de Piro himself on Friday evenings. Guests can enjoy champagne and local delicacies while exploring this unique traditional Maltese mansion.
Really nice private casa and there was no queue. It's a bit further down the hill than the usual touristy places so we had it almost to ourselves. The guide was brilliant and we could take our time admiring the place. But the most exciting thing about the house was the WWII shelter room under the house! They said that sometimes they were up to 200 people down there which was a lot!
Helene K — Google review
This was a really cool authentic home to see. They have kept and set up the home to how it would have looked like in the past. We were lucky to be one of the few people visiting the time we went as to have basically the whole place to ourselves. The underground shelter was also cool to see. The wealth some family's had from the past was astonishing to see. Worth a visit. They offer guided tours or self tours. Lockers were out of order when we visited. This is also a bed and breakfast as we saw a few people on the lower floors walking in robes, so it shares some spaces with a B&B.
Giovanni S — Google review
Definitely a must see when in Valletta! We went for a guided tour around noon and there were only four people including us. We loved being in small group like that as the guide offered us enough time to also explore on our own and ask as many questions as we wanted. The tour feels like you’re visiting your rich auntie which I find daring. The house is not only a museum, there’s still a lot of life in it. I love visiting houses like that and this is one of the most lively ones I’ve seen thanks to more recent objects on display. A very refreshing experience. The place is still in use after hours by the family and it feels homely and cozy. It’s a bit chaotic and that’s why it feels personal. After the tour we were offered to continue exploring the rooms and the shelter in our own pace so we used the opportunity to spend some more time there.
Yana K — Google review
Fascinating look at a nobleman’s home. The Marquis and Marchioness still live on the top floor. The lady tour guide was great, very informative and with a good sense of humour that made it most enjoyable.
Rob B — Google review
Definitely worth a visit if you are nosey and like trinkets and portraits. The house is not very big but each room is packed with things. The audio guide is nicely organised and detailed without being too long. There is a cute tiny cafe inside on the terrace. The bomb shelter is also interesting but beware there will be mud and you will get it all over yourself if you are wearing anything long and loose.

Casa Rocca Piccola is one of the most fascinating places to visit in Valletta. This 16th-century noble residence offers a rare opportunity to step into Malta’s aristocratic past. Unlike many other historical sites, Casa Rocca Piccola is still a family home, which makes the experience even more authentic and personal. The guided tours are excellent and very informative, giving visitors a chance to see beautifully decorated rooms, antique furniture, artworks, and family heirlooms that have been preserved for centuries. One of the highlights is the underground wartime shelters, which provide a powerful glimpse into Malta’s role during World War II. The collection of costumes, silverware, and traditional Maltese crafts is also remarkable. What makes Casa Rocca Piccola special is the warm and personal touch of the guides, who share not only history but also stories about the current family who still live there. The courtyard and garden are peaceful spots to relax after the tour. If you are in Valletta, this museum-home is a must-see. It combines history, culture, and charm in a way that truly captures the spirit of Malta. I highly recommend including it in your itinerary.

Fort St. Angelo is a restored medieval fort located on a peninsula, offering picturesque harbor views and historical displays. Originally constructed as a medieval castle, it was later strengthened by the Knights of Saint John in the 16th century to serve as their residence and headquarters during significant events in Malta's history. The fort played a crucial role in protecting the island and offers multimedia exhibitions that bring its exciting history alive.
Just amazing. Definitely worth every Euro to enter. The history of the fortress is very interesting and I really liked the films that briefly explain the whole history. I recommend not to miss them. However, the amazing views from the fortress are the highlight. You can see the harbours of the Tri-Cities and Valletta. I recommend setting aside at least an hour, more likely two, for the tour. It can be done quickly, but it would be a shame. It is excellent to go to the fortress before sunset. The view of the harbours is amazing! I recommend buying a combo ticket and then go to the harbor museum and the Inquisitor's Palace. These are great for +6 Euro.

Really enjoyed visiting Fort St Angelo in the 3 Cities area. Coming from Australia you just don’t see this sort of thing. It’s historical significance is amazing and Malta should be proud of what they have done at this site. If you take your time and watch the media displays you will learn so much. Great views of Valletta and surrounding 3 Cities. Always a display of super yachts parked out front adds to the atmosphere.

Fort St. Angelo is absolutely breathtaking and a must-see when visiting Birgu! The location itself is incredible, with panoramic views over the Grand Harbour and Valletta. The fort is steeped in history, from the time of the Knights of St. John to its role in World War II, and it’s very well presented with detailed exhibits and restored areas to explore. Walking through the bastions feels like stepping back in time, and the sense of scale is amazing. It’s peaceful, atmospheric, and a perfect place to take in Malta’s heritage. Highly recommended for both history lovers and anyone who enjoys stunning views.

Fort St. Angelo is one of many amazing buildings built by the Knights of the order of St. John. Located at 45, 45A St. Christophers Street in Valletta, one80 St.Christopher Str. offers a delightful fusion of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine with Asian and Middle Eastern influences. The restaurant boasts stunning views of the harbor for both indoor and outdoor dining, making it a perfect spot to enjoy delectable dishes paired with an extensive wine list and exquisite cocktails.
Since the restaurant is listed in The Michelin guide, I was a bit unsure on how the items would be priced for the portion sizes. But honestly, this place is such good value for money! The portions were generous, quality was fantastic and every dish was full of flavour. The tuna deserves a special mention — easily the best I’ve ever had.
Emilia B — Google review
Food was amazing - the tuna tartar was WOW! Highly recommend to visit for the tasting menu. Service could not keep up with the food - had to pour the wine by myself and order second bottle. Overall - very good! Will come back.
Marco C — Google review
Tucked just around the corner from the Grand Master’s Palace, One80 offers a modern, minimalist setting with a touch of warmth. The space is tastefully designed, featuring wood panelling, white floors, banquet-style seating on one side in rich teal tones, and a collection of well-spaced tables on the other. Drinks: The Mezcal Negroni was but unremarkable, while the One80 Spritz—essentially a Campari soda—was refreshing but lacked depth. Starters: The Devilled Eggs with smoked eel, salmon roe, and furikake were beautifully presented, though the portion was small and the delicate eel flavour was lost beneath the garnish. The Crispy Braised Ox Tongue came shaped like a croquette, topped with teriyaki and neri goma sauces. The meat was tender, and the sauces added a satisfying umami richness—one of the better dishes of the evening. The mains: The Fish of the Day Saltimbocca—served with fregola, ras el hanout, and baby carrots—was unfortunately a disappointment. The Parma ham had been cooked to a leathery texture, and the fish itself was overdone and dry, reminiscent of an overbaked in-flight meal. In contrast, the Quail Wellington was excellent: two pieces filled with spinach and foie gras stuffing, complemented by leek, mustard, and a smooth sweet potato purée. Perfectly cooked, well-balanced, and full of flavour—it stood out as the highlight of the meal. Service: Service felt perfunctory. The menu was dropped off with little engagement, and staff didn’t check in once mains were served. Feedback could only be shared at the end, when the disappointing fish dish was removed from the bill—a gesture rightly made. However, the atmosphere was somewhat marred by visible disagreements among the staff near the service area. Overall: A beautifully designed restaurant with some standout dishes—particularly the Quail Wellington—but inconsistencies in cooking and service prevent One80 from reaching its full potential.

We absolutely loved our meal at One80. The service is top notch too - our server Janko was incredibly friendly and attentive. He gave us the best recommendations. Highlights - the seafood pasta, the lamb, the rib eye. For dessert we shared the ice cream with almond brittle - divine!

What a fabulous discovery. The tasting menu was hit after hit - though desert could have had a big of fruit/something cold (maybe that’s just preference?!). Staff were lovely and the environment is relaxed, welcoming, and upscale without being pretentious.

We visited for the plant-based menu and all I can say is WOW! The food was absolutely delicious. The best we've had on the island by far. I really recommend the mushroom dumplings and local carrot dish. The prices were very fair for the quality of food that you are served. We were served by Maricel and the service was excellent. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for a delicious meal.

A laid back but quality bistro with beautiful and very tasty food. Portion size is good and many varied with a few little tweaks on classic combinations. Service was laid back and not at all intrusive.

Absolutely no complaints about the food! The flavours were fantastic and the presentation was gorgeous. Unfortunately, once we’d finished our main courses we felt somewhat forgotten about and weren’t offered dessert or further drinks. We waited 30 minutes before asking for the bill and leaving which was disappointing.

Sandwich shop
The Submarine is a popular spot in Sliema, Malta known for its fresh and customizable sandwiches at a good price. It's a great place to stop by for lunch before heading to the nearby Three Cities. Visitors can enjoy exploring the charming alleyways and admiring the beautiful Maltese architecture in Cospicua, Vittoriosa, and Senglea.
Great place to chill with amazing wraps and and baguettes. The chicken, bacon potato ciabatta was amazing and loaded with filling. As was the well-stuffed smoked salmon, avocado and rocket salad my wife had which she said was amazing!

Brilliant place for a vegan ftira in Malta. This wee sandwich shop in the heart of Valetta offers made to order sandwiches and you can choose your ingredients from the large selection of vegetables and sauces that are vegan friendly. I think we had kunserva (traditional Maltese tomato sauce/spread) with rocket, aubergine & sun dried tomatoes and my partner avocado and mushroom. Both on traditional ftira bread. Very generous portion and nice to try traditional dishes from Malta but veganised.

Had a long exhausting day of sight seeing and was craving for something light and refreshing for lunch. Stumbled upon this cute little sandwich shop by chance and decided to give it a try with not much expectations and it surprisingly turned out to be one of the most delicious focaccia sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread was warm still, soft and crispy and the ingredients were fresh. Simple yet such a delight. Gets better with each bite. Genuinely could tell that the sandwiches were made with lots of love 🥪💞 A “culinary serendipity”!! 🌟 Please do yourself a favour and come try out one of their sandwiches if you’re nearby and tell them I said hi if you can 💃🏻

I visited The Submarine for lunch. It is located in the center, the people running the restaurant are very friendly & nice. There is an elaborate menu from which we can pick & choose whatever we want in the sandwich. It is helpful for vegetarians and vegans. The sandwich tasted amazing & it is pretty cheap! Highly recommended for everyone. I had selected Baguette with hot sauce, potatoes, onions & avocados.

Possibly the best sandwich i have ever had and not just in Malta. Super fresh ingredients and so tasty. Lovely service and always busy. For a little space it knows how to pack out and make good tasty food!

These are the best sandwiches you will ever eat!! The traditional Maltese bread (Ftira) is the perfect size and texture, the choices for toppings are unbelievable, and Simone’s customer service is outstanding. We went four times during our stay (including one to takeaway to the airport), and each time, Simone’s sandwiches delivered on flavour, freshness and price point (approx 5 euro per sandwich). Each sandwich is made with love and care. The toppings are evenly disturbed within the sandwich, ensuring each bite is as pleasant as the last. This is hands down the best meal we ate in Malta. There is also great seating available in the shade outside, and Simone will deliver your sandwiches and ice cold Kinnie with a smile.

Amazing place with delicious freshly made sandwiches. I ordered vegetarian maltese and the cheese was wonderful. The service was very helpful and friendly, helped a lot with choosing the perfect option. You can choose from different types or make your own sandwich. The bread was fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We waited only a few minutes for our order and paid 8€ for one sandwich. Highly reccomend!

Without doubt, the best sandwich my wife and I ever had. The woman working behind the counter is awesome, no frills, all warmth and jokes. Make your own, over 300,000 (yes) combinations. All fresh and delicious. You can't come to the island of Malta and not try this place. Ftira bread is the winning ticket ;)

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Noni is a renowned restaurant located in Valletta's Republic Street, at the heart of the vibrant dining and entertainment scene. The establishment offers a blend of Maltese and Mediterranean cuisine with a modern French twist. Chef Jonathan Brincat has curated an elegant menu featuring dishes such as rabbit confit croquettes, slow-cooked octopus tagine, and te fit-tazza dessert.
Dinner at Noni was truly a dream come true to me. <3 Every detail in food and service were polished to the perfection. Noni's acoustics, music and the layout of tables keeps the atmosphere very calm, intimate and relaxing. You can almost forgot there are anyone else, because you won't hear any clanging of the cutlery or glasses around you. The service was warm, relaxed, professional and they make you feel like part of the family. I always appreciate when great professional service doesn't mean distant or cold. In Noni it was the opposite and everyone working there felt unique and very genuine. I am not sure if I have the words to describe the food. It was so beautiful, balanced, interesting, fresh... It felt more like art than food and I loved the stories behind the dishes. I always appreciate the little brain tickle that happens when I get to taste some surprising flavors or when something that looked super light was in fact very rich in flavor and other way around. We had the long menu and the amount of food was perfect, I actually really felt able to enjoy every dish and not being full half way the menu. All in all: warmly recommend and looking forward to go back soon. <3

Tonight (16 May) we dined at Noni. My mother joined us and she has significant mobility issues. The staff was incredibly accommodating of her mobility needs and food issues. They could not have been kinder and it nearly left me in tears. On top of that the food and drinks were just fantastic and I say that having been to many Michelin starred restaurants before. This was the highlight of our wonderful trip to Malta.

I was lucky enough to visit this restaurant. It was one of the best decisions I've made. You feel like you're in another dimension when you taste these dishes, the play of flavors, the impressive presentation, and the excellent service. Yes, the prices aren't cheap, but it's worth it. We'll definitely come back.

I dined here this evening and simply put, this was the best meal of my life. I'm a nobody from the states. I'm not a food critic, I'm not a blogger but I have traveled the world and have many good meals in my life. I didn't know food could taste like this. I'll recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone and my highest respects to the chef and staff. 1,000/10

We had dinner at Noni with a group of seven. The staff was reasonably friendly, and the restaurant itself is located in a beautiful historic building. We were seated upstairs — still nice, but a bit less atmospheric than the main floor and a little chilly because of the air conditioning. The food was very good. It’s a set-menu concept with several courses, where you can choose between a standard or a more extended version, plus a few optional dishes. The flavors were excellent — the fish, for example, was outstanding — but the portions were quite small. One dish, a ravioli course, literally consisted of a single raviolo. If you go for the basic menu without extras, you might leave feeling a bit hungry. The wines, on the other hand, were excellent and paired very well with the food. All in all, Noni is a very good restaurant with refined dishes and great wine, but considering the price and portion sizes, I wouldn’t call it an absolute must.
Marc E — Google review
We had dinner on September 30th. It is located in a quiet street in Valletta away from the daily tourism. Unfortunately, the place is divided into two parts, 3 tables on the entrance floor (quite anonymous in my opinion and certainly does not understand the history of the place) and other tables on the lower floor where the kitchen is located and where you can really breathe the 400 years of the place. We were given a table on the upper floor, and the only one under the air conditioning outlet (we asked if they could turn it off because it was quite annoying, they turned it off only for 10 minutes after which it was turned back on) we had dinner with the sweater. Good food, well presented and well explained by the staff (attentive and friendly staff). The sore point in my opinion is the price (price that we knew before coming), not in line with the dinner offered and the location.

Simply outstanding. Praises for the food where one course was better and more beautiful than the next We had the base wine pairing and it was a delicious selection of wines including local wine. A gem!

Restaurant
Dimitri Valletta is a charming boutique restaurant that resides in a historic 450-year-old building, just a short stroll from the iconic Auberge de Castille. This delightful eatery offers diners an exquisite culinary adventure, showcasing flavors from Malta, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The menu is thoughtfully updated with each season to highlight fresh ingredients and surprise guests with innovative dishes.
On arrival we were greeted by the chef Dimitri. It was a personal dining experience which was nice. We attended for a weekday lunch so there was only one other patron; so it was quiet and relaxing. We ordered Octopus Squid Ink pasta, local fried rabbit, and profiteroles filled with blast frozen ricotta. All delicious. The wine was light on the palate and matched well with the chosen foods.

This tiny eatery at the top of St Paul’s Street in Valletta could be so much more. Unfortunately it looks like it’s small size gas not managed to overcome the costs of doing business and it has fallen on hard times. The very limited wine list and excessive pricing (6 times the retail price for a Doppio Passo Primitivo) seems to point in that direction. Nevertheless the chef patron was engaging and spent some time with us, considering the only other server seemed to lack the finesse needed for the prices we were charged. A case in point to mention is that the cost of what we had was comparable to higher class restaurants serving better food, greater choice, with better service and a more memorable experience. All this was short or completely lacking on the night we were there.
David F — Google review
The food was plain and tasteless, especially the chicken and the veal. There were no spices or herbs used on the chicken, the veggies or the potato mash... The 25eur veal tasted like a plain schnitzel. We finished our meals only because we were hungry & tired. Our waiter kept repeating that he is very satisfied that we liked the food. This was a statement we never made ourselves and we finally had to reply that it's not exactly the case. Then the waiter returned with the chef and they made the point that we should have returned the dishes when we didn't like them instead of finishing them - not a great solution when you are hungry and tired. Also, I was not looking forward to choose another dish or to give a recipe to the chef on how to improve the taste. The service overall was poor for the quality of the restaurant they want to maintain. There were multiple issues, the most interesting one was that the waiter left the bottle of wine on the table and expected us to open it. Of course we then asked him to do that himself, which he did. They gave us a chocolate tart on the house to compensate for the experience with the main dishes. We appreciated the gesture, hence this is a 2* review instead of 1*. But anyone considering a visit should be warned.

After todays walking we wanted dinner to be close. And ideally away from the madding crowd. This restaurant did not disappint. Put aside the fact that we were the only two patrons, it was an event to savour. Never before have we had this experience. Seated on a street away, but close to the restaurant. Served by an elder gentleman called Patrick who was happy to chat and answer our questions - about anything really. Later Dimitri the chef came and had a chat too and as we paid our bill, we were able to chat to his kids - and tell them to go to bed!! Dad’ll be home soon.

We visited Dimitri on Friday 9/8 for a late lunch (around 1:30 pm) and had THE BEST experience with Chef Dimitri. I ordered the trio mushroom pasta and Chef Dimitri recommended the chicken and chorizo pasta for my son. Since my son does not eat pork, Chef said he would make it without the chorizo. Let me tell you...BEST pasta we've ever had !! The pasta is made fresh and you can tell. All the ingredients used tasted fresh and went so well with the red wine suggested by the chef. I'm so glad good this delicious redirecting and HIGHLY recommend visiting Chef Dimitri!

Wide playground with water fountain. 4 level shopping with different color coding columns like orange, sea breeze and tangerine color. No cinema. EuroSpar complete and has varieties

A convenient and modern shopping centre with four levels and over 50 shops, ranging from fashion and sportswear to household goods and books. It also has cafés, restaurants and a supermarket, all within a spacious 15,000 m² setup. With around 1,000 underground parking spaces and a beautiful waterfront location, it’s easy to access and scenic. Clean, accessible, and family-friendly. That said, it can get quite crowded, and facilities may be harder to find during peak hours. It’s a reliable shopping choice on the island, but not a standout one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The hidden gem that goes to bed before you do! 😴 The Point is that rare breed of shopping centre that's managed to crack the code: big enough to matter, quiet enough to actually enjoy. Walking through here feels like discovering a secret that everyone forgot to tell you about 🤫 The space is genuinely impressive - proper corridors, decent lighting, and thankfully none of that claustrophobic maze nonsense you get elsewhere. Staff are sound, shops are well-maintained, and there's actually room to breathe without getting trampled by pram-wielding families. The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between bustling and peaceful 🛍️ But here's the catch (there's always one, isn't there?) - they pack up shop at 19:30! That's earlier than my nan's bedtime 😂 So if you're one of those after-work shopping warriors, you'll need to adjust your battle plan accordingly. Top tip: Hit this place weekend mornings or early evenings for the full zen shopping experience. Perfect for when you want retail therapy without the actual therapy bills 💸 Honestly brilliant if you can work around their early bird schedule!

The Point is Malta’s main mall but quite small with limited shops. It lacks variety and many popular brands are gone. Prices are high for what’s offered. It used to be better, but now it feels more like a basic shopping spot than a real retail destination

Pretty good mall, full of nice clothes brands, it has a food court and a gaming space, when I went it was empty for some reason but it's a nice place to have a meal or shop for some clothes. A good few floors, compared to what they have in uk, very expensive. Had a perfume shop, was double the price of airport and duty free.

Malta's shopping centres are so disappointing ...like 10 shops in total and a poor selection of eating places on the ground floor. Come to the UK ..and then you'll realise what a real shopping centre is like (100+ shops, massive food courts, cinema, nice free to use toilets).

Located near the Lower Barrakka Gardens by Fort St Elmo in Valletta, The Malta Experience offers an educational audio-visual show that narrates the captivating 7,000-year history of Malta. The 45-minute presentation covers significant events such as prehistoric times, the arrival of Christianity with the shipwreck of St Paul, the era of the Knights of Malta, and the island's role in World War II.
It's is an incredible experience. If you want to learn deeply about the history of Malta, it's the best place. Definitely, a real historical immersion. After watching the documentary, there's a short walking tour with a guide who explains everything in a clear way. It was an amazing experience.

A very interesting and informative movie about history of Malta. Afterwards we visited the main grand hall which used to be used as hospital. Such an amazing place.
Roobik E — Google review
As the advertising states, this is really a great introduction to Malta and it's rich and very interesting history. The presentation is shown on a big cinema screen with support for all languages via the private headphones that you find in each seat. The video lasts 30+ minutes but the time doesn't drag. We were truly fascinated by the history and everything that helped shape Malta to the Island that we Knie today. The Experience itself is located on the side of the old walled fortress of the capital of Malta - Valetta. You can buy tickets in advance online or from the small tickets booth at the venue itself. The film offers hourly showings all week and you access the cinema and the small shop down some old stairs into the halls cut into the rock below. When you buy the tickets, you can also add the extra "Tour der Sacra Infermeria" for a few Euros. This gives you a very interesting view of the rooms behind and below the Malta Experience and includes a guided Tour with an unbelievable history including the huge Hospital wards operated first by the Knights of St.John and then led the way in patient treatment under Napoleon and then the Britisch until 1920. The "Tour der Sacra Infermeria" is definitely worth the extra expense as it also shows you the new conference rooms and theatre which have played host to many political events on the European and International Stage.

A must for all visitors to the Maltese Islands. Audio visual presentation that depicts the history of Malta from Prehistory to modern times. Gives you an understanding of the maltese people.and what has shaped this small but great nation. the location of the malta experience is best described as STUNNING. The building itself sets the mood for the audio visual. I'll go again when I am in Malta
Pancake P — Google review
Would have given the tour of the Sacra Infermeria, the Knights of Malta's hospital, five stars if it wasn't for the operations a poorly coordinated tour company. Having visited before - around 6 years ago - when I came back to Malta with a family member this year, I had earmarked this as a must see, given the history, significance and sheer spectacle of the building and its interior. We didn't bother with the Malta Experience video part of the tour, as this is only of interest if you have little to no knowledge of the island or its history. Last time I was on this tour, it was engaging and allowed us time within a small group to see the building in great detail and explore a large portion of it. This time around was a quite different experience. We had a tour booked with another agency at 1pm at the War HQ Tunnels (highly recommended, by the way) and was reliably informed at the booking office that the tour of the Sacra Infermeria would be half an hour, so beginning at 11:40am would certainly give us plenty of time to do the tour and make our way over to our next tour at 1pm. We are always careful to plan our itinerary to ensure we can realistically see as much as we can in one day when on holiday. We were asked to be there five minutes before the tour starts, so we arrived promptly at 11:35 and waited until 11:45, when we were ushered up to the internal gate of the Infirmary. There we stood for a further 10 minutes before finally the tour got underway at nearly 12pm. This was partly because the tour group was excessively large - easily numbering 70 to 80 people - and required far too much effort to chaperone by one tour guide alone but also because several people arrived very late. We finally started the tour but was again held up by another group of people that had arrived late - by this point, more than half an hour after the tour was scheduled to start. As far as I'm concerned, if you arrive more than 15 minutes late for a scheduled tour, you should be instructed to join a later party if space permits, not hold up an entire group. The oversized group on the tour meant that it took too long to move the group between stations as people kept wandering off. This left precious little time to cover in any detail some of the key aspects/feature of the building or its illustrious founders, as we waited for everyone to catch up. This also meant that, due to the delays, we had to actually leave the tour before the end in order to make it in time to our next tour - even though we should have had plenty of time to fully cover both. What I was also disappointed with was that, as they were preparing for a conference at the time, (as it is an active conference centre) the main halls in the Infirmary were full of rigging and equipment, which meant it resembled more of a construction site and also meant we couldn't get as much access and freedom of movement as I experienced on my previous tour. The tour guide herself was good but overall - especially if you have a schedule to stick to, which could be completely thrown off - this was a very disorganised tour and left me feeling very disappointed. It just didn't do the building or its history justice. If you have a limited amount of time in Malta, I would give this a miss, as there are other, better coordinated and more engaging museums and tours available.
Ayrshireman — Google review
Did the combined experience with the infirmary. The guide was Anna. I've done many, many tours in my time and she was the most phenomenal speaker I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Credit to you and your museum!

The Convention centre is very intelligently built in this historic hospital building with one of the biggest halls from this area. Great flair

This was a pleasant surprise. The documentary is good and explains the history of Malta in a generic way. What we liked the most was the little tour after it. You're not going to visit an incredible scenery and certainly there are more beautiful buildings in Malta, but the tour guide makes it absolutely worth it. She knows how to tell a story, how to put it in perspective, how to add her own opinion without interfering with facts. We recommend it.

Rossopomodoro in Sliema is a part of the first and only chain of Neapolitan artisan pizzerias worldwide. Since its establishment in 1998, it has been guided by three essential principles that have contributed to its growth and success. Visitors highly recommend trying the Diavola and Giro d'Italia pizzas, as well as the Tiramisu alla Nutella for a delightful experience. The soft and flavorful pizza dough adds to the overall appeal of their offerings.
If you're on the hunt for some seriously good pizza, you need to check out this Italian spot! The pizza here is amazing—crispy crust, fresh toppings, just the right amount of cheese. But the real showstopper? The foccaccias! They’re incredibly special, delicious, and so crunchy. Christian, our waitress, was a gem! Super friendly and attentive, he made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. It really added to the overall vibe of the place. If you want a laid-back evening filled with fantastic food and great service, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

The paccheri with swordfish was delicious, but unfortunately, even though the restaurant was almost empty at the time, the plate of various fried foods (fritto tiella) that was not on the menu was not very satisfying. The fried mozzarella balls were cold inside, as were the croquettes. The arancini were not bad, but the fried pizza was too salty and inedible, and the Aperol Spritz was just okay.

I read great reviews but quality is lacking, so dissapointing. Plus only two gluten free choices. No vegan cheese. Improvement feedback: -staff and the manager need to listen more attentively to customer orders. -fish should be checked for scales -there is no excuse to risk the health and safety of customers. Training is needed to ensure they learn how to clean it. -when a customer informs staff of an allergy, get the manager and don't just hand them a menu. -when a customer gives feedback, saying nothing looks very careless. Show some understanding and even compensate or reassure them you will take the comments on board. Details below. - was just handed me us by a lady on asking what is gluten free- bit ignorant and not attentive enough. -the manager took my order after confirming he could make any pasta dish gluten free. The chef came out, which was very good if only they listened to what I wanted. I clearly pointed to the vegetables and said a few times that I'd like a mixture of vegetables including carrots, courgettes and peppers which was listed under a different pasta. They said ok and added they would put tomatoes in. -most of the pasta dish was tomatoes with about 3 diced pieces of courgette. They charged me 3 euros for the 'grilled veg' which is cheeky considering there was 90% tomatoes. -hubby's fish was not scaled so he kept getting scales in his mouth. His excuse was that the fish comes ready so they can't. Not worth 24 euros if the fish is not even checked properly before serving. Unjustifiable. On giving feedback, the manager just clumped his mouth shut and took the bill. Very defensive.

We’ve been coming to Rossopomodoro regularly, and one of the main reasons we always enjoy our visits is Vishnu. He’s an exceptional manager — always welcoming, kind, and attentive. No matter how busy the place is, Vishnu makes time to greet us with a smile and ensure everything is perfect. His professionalism and friendly attitude truly elevate the whole dining experience. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares about both the guests and the atmosphere, but Vishnu does it effortlessly. Thank you, Vishnu, for always making us feel so valued and at home!

We went there more than once and everything the pizza was very good,. A wide choice with new addition to the menu every time. You can also enjoy the table outside in Piazza Tigne especially in summer. For other suggestions follow us on Instagram Hungry_travelers Armando & Caterina

The food was absolutely delicious. I can't name the dishes properly in Italian 🇮🇹 but let me try to describe. Basically my wife ordered Spaghetti 🍝 Carbonara and I ordered the pasta with seafood 🦞 🐚. We ordered an Italian white wine which paired perfectly with the food. Do yourself a favor and visit them! Cheers 🥂

Service was friendly and the venue was clean with a neat simple fitout. I ate the vego burger and my wife at the chicken burger and they both had a serving of chips. They didn't have coke zero and only had pepsi max to offer which seems a bit old fashion. The staff gave us plenty of Mayo and tomato sauce which was good. Upon our food being served the chips tasted like they weren't that fresh and needed seasoning. Both our burgers were tastless and were begging for some flavour. The second half of the chicken in the buger was rock hard and couldn't be bitten through. This place seems like a good family restaurant, but I wouldn't be going here if you are after a magical hospitality experience.

Good welcome from staff, classic menu of Italian cuisine with prevalence of pizza and pasta. Modern well-appointed venue with many tables on the outdoor terrace. I read several complaints about the wait time, we were served very quickly, maybe we were lucky I don't know. The pizza very good, mortadella and pistachio is a treat. Only one note: the lemon slice with sparkling water needs to be there.

Restaurant
Tiffany's Bistro, located along the Sliema waterfront in Malta, is a highly recommended restaurant offering international comfort food favorites such as pad Thai, burgers, and pasta dishes. The bistro is known for its generous portions of pastas, fish, meat, salads, and risotto. Visitors have praised the welcoming and attentive staff as well as the delicious food. Some highlights include Tortellacci filled with ricotta and pecorino and a classic burger.
I visited this restaurant three times during my stay, and each visit was consistently excellent. The food was full of flavor — the local rabbit was outstanding, and their pasta dish was just as impressive. Everything our group ordered was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming with a great vibe. Inside, the lighting adds a beautiful touch, while the outdoor seating has a lovely, relaxed ambiance. The staff were friendly and attentive, always checking in to make sure we were happy. A truly memorable dining experience every time. Highly recommended!

A wonderful spot by the waterfront! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. The food was delicious, full of flavor and prepared with care, and the drinks matched perfectly — refreshing and well-balanced. The service is great: the staff was friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with recommendations. There are often queues, but it’s definitely worth waiting a bit — the overall experience makes up for it. Perfect place for both a relaxed meal and a special evening out. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Just had an amazing experience at this restaurant! Other reviewers weren't kidding about the traditional rabbit dish, it was absolutely delicious and the portion was enormous. I could barely finish it all! The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, very authentic preparation. What really stood out was the exceptional service. The waiter was incredibly polite and attentive throughout the entire meal. You can tell the staff really cares about making sure guests have a great time. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic cuisine with generous portions and top notch service!

All the food we had was lovely and plenty of it. Nice place to sit and have dinner and watch the world go by. The staff were good and polite but there was not interaction with them. Overall a good place to eat

Highly recommend this place. We were so famished, we forgot to take pics of the food but everything was great! The drinks were flavorful and hit the spot. The restaurant is in a great location nearby to so much. If you want an all in one place to visit, drink, great atmosphere and great food then this is your spot.

The portions were very generous. The size of the pasta could have been to 2-3 people. So order it when you are really hungry. It wasn’t a flavorful experience and the carbonara was slightly over done - had a hint of egg taste to it. Its located at a busy street so you will hear cars and have lots of people pasaing through the restaurant. I appreciated that it also had an area where smoking was not allowed.

We were on a trip in Malta and walked past the restaurant a few times, we decided to give it a shot. Best decision ever. Had dinner there 3 times after that. We did reverve a table to avoid waiting times, the last day we arrived early and it still wasn't a problem even though the restaurant was full and long line was waiting outside. The staff is very friendly, smiling the whole time. The food was excellent 10/10, the cocktails were also the bests we had in Malta the whole week. If I go back to Malta, I'm going to visit again for sure.

Great food, attentive service from staff. I was told that mains could be prepared gluten-free. The rabbit tasted really well and was massive portion with potatoes and veggies as sides. As a coeliac, I had no issue eating there.

Restaurant
Modern European restaurant
Chophouse is a renowned steakhouse in Sliema, Malta, known for offering a wide selection of the freshest cuts of succulent steaks, meats, and fish. It is considered one of the leading meat restaurants on the island and boasts the largest charcoal grill in Malta. The restaurant prides itself on grilling mouth-watering meats to perfection and crafting dishes with expertise by butchering, marinating, and aging the meats in-house.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful organization of our wedding, which took place on April 7, 2025. The food, service, and atmosphere were all of the highest standard. The managers were cooperative, helpful, and responded promptly throughout the entire planning and organization process. We are truly grateful and can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant — whether for a lovely dinner or any special event.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was just as impressive, with the staff being friendly, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. A special shout-out to the lovely waitress who spoke Portuguese — she made us feel right at home. Her warm attitude and helpful recommendations really elevated our dining experience. It's rare to find such welcoming service, and we truly appreciated it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and outstanding hospitality!

Amazing atmosphere with one of the best night views of Valletta. The setting is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing dinner. The steak was cooked to perfection and full of flavor, and the service was attentive and friendly. A great place for a special evening in Malta!
Mia O — Google review
Quite disappointing experience considering the Michelin recommendations and the price range. Staff is super nice, knowledgeable, accommodating, polite and just how it should be in this kind of restaurant. Definitely way above Maltese service standards. But bottle of water should be brought to the table closed and opened at the table, otherwise who knows what cheap water is in the Aqua Pana bottle and how many times the bottle was refilled. And yes, that's common practice in the industry. The environment is nice and service (serving and clearing out) is prompt. We opted for 75 euro tasting menu, which was disappointing, as from 7 dishes only 3 were nice (presentation and taste-wise), remaining dishes lacked in enjoyable presentation (especially the risotto, definitely should not be served on flat plate), or in taste (lots of strong/unique flavours in menu but not on plate). The fish dish was on our request replaced with the pork dish, but pork was 50% just fat. Not enjoyable at all. I struggled to even swallow it, due to the fatty texture and taste. It should be a standard in good restaurants not to let 1 noisy table take over the entire restaurant, but to moderate noisy guests so all guests can have pleasant time. Especially in a restaurant which aims to be seen as above average. But that was definitely not the case here. Also clearing out everything from tables 2 hours before closing and turning off the table lamps results in you sitting in dark room which feels very inhospitable. Considering the price and delivered enjoyment won't return to this place.

We had the pleasure of dining at Chophouse Restaurant during a team trip to Malta, and it was one of the culinary highlights of our stay. First of all, the view is absolutely stunning – the terrace overlooks Valletta’s skyline, especially magical at sunset or when the city lights reflect on the water in the evening. A truly memorable backdrop for dinner. The menu focuses on premium cuts and grilled dishes, with high-quality ingredients and careful preparation. From starters to dessert, every plate was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Service was friendly and attentive, and the wine selection was excellent, with great pairings recommended by the staff. Chophouse combines fine dining with a relaxed atmosphere and is perfect for both professional dinners and special occasions. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Malta – and absolutely worth it for the view alone.

After a long day, we visited Chophouse seeking a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were attentive and professional, creating a comfortable dining experience. I opted for the steak tartare, which was fresh and well seasoned. The asparagus with sesame sauce was enjoyable, though the sesame flavor was overpowering. The highlight of the evening was the impressive view of fireworks, providing a memorable end to the meal. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those looking to unwind with good food and a pleasant ambiance.

At the entrance, you'll be met by a rather stiff head waiter. If you're looking for a warm welcome, you might want to skip this restaurant and head to Bonvivant in Berlin instead. They also have a Michelin star, but the atmosphere there is far more inviting. The service at the table on the other hand was very friendly. The food here is good—perhaps a bit on the salty side, but still flavorful. The view is stunning; just try to overlook the balustrade, which looks like it was last painted decades ago and now sports a kind of unintentional "trashy chic." One last tip: avoid the restroom if you can. For such an elegant restaurant, it's surprisingly messy and clearly not checked as often as it should be.

Just had my wedding reception at the chophouse in May. And it was SPECTACULAR!! Every aspect of the evening was 10/10. The food was incredible, every course of our bespoke menu was devine. The service was nothing I've experienced at any other wedding. They catered to every wish and hope I had for my big day to ensure it was met and I would recommend this venue to anyone thinking of a wedding in Malta. Furthermore we had several meals at the chophouse, each of which were amazing, it's the perfect restaurant for a special meal of fabulous views and food at any time! Thank you Natalia, Keith and Chef David!

Restaurant
Under Grain, located in the charming vaulted cellar of the Rosselli-AX Privilege boutique hotel in Valletta, Malta, has garnered a reputation as one of the finest dining establishments in the country since its launch in 2019. Boasting a Michelin star for three consecutive years, this restaurant offers a stellar fine dining experience with classic French cuisine infused with modern Mediterranean flair.
Under Grain is not just a restaurant; it’s a dining experience that transcends expectations. From the moment you step in, it’s clear that this is a place where every detail is thoughtfully curated, blending exceptional cuisine with impeccable service. The food at Under Grain is nothing short of superb. Each dish in the tasting menu is a work of art, showcasing innovative flavors and flawless presentation. The balance of textures and flavors is truly remarkable, making every bite an adventure for the palate. What sets Under Grain apart, however, is its staff. They are as integral to the experience as the food itself, providing attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm service. Their passion and professionalism elevate the dining experience, creating a connection between the guest and the story behind each dish. Be prepared for a leisurely meal, as the tasting menu took us approximately 4.5 hours to complete. This isn’t a rushed affair but rather an indulgent journey through culinary excellence, so patience is key—and well rewarded. Under Grain deserves its Michelin star reputation, offering a memorable experience that lingers long after the last bite. Highly recommended for those seeking a sophisticated and immersive dining experience.

This was a stunning experience from start to finish. The staff was incredibly attentive, but never too much- they created a friendly and cozy environment throughout the whole dinner. I loved the explanation of the dishes- very well detailed and clear. Wine was great and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. The food was incredible- such different flavours to what you expect and usually eat. I loved the combination of ingredients that I never thought could go together. Chef Victor is a genius and you can taste his passion for food in his dishes. Thank you for a wonderful evening- Lia and Jenni

This was an exquisite dining experience! Where shall I start? We were shown to our private room with a simple decor but elegant. The waiting staff was professional and courteous throughout the evening. We had the tasting menu which consists of 5 courses and many 'surprises' by Chef Victor. Each course is a unique display of artistry with an explosion of flavours. Each of the courses is not just served... The servers set up the table with props so that you can experience something truly original... Then you try the food and you're in heaven. The restaurant offers a great wine list and expert connoisseur to suggest best wine options. The experience lasts for roughly 4 hours however, the ambience is just perfect and time flies by. A wonderful experience indeed... Well done Chef Victor and all the Under Grain Team!

What can I say? Welcomed by the big man Chef Victor himself (busy in the kitchen). Atmosphere is beautiful, service super attentive and nice and food amazing. To be honest I've been to another 4 Michelin star restaurants 2 local and 2 abroad, this is definitely the best one. The service was extremely attentive, simple things, even how they present, decant and serve the wine absolutely amazing. Food all was over the top, only the petit fours were not out of this world but the rest of the food was absolutely amazing. With regards to reviews of people complaining about the time in between courses, I can truly say only between one course I thought It dragged a little long, but having said that restaurant was full and amazing food takes time to make Finally, regarding Chef Victor he was very warm to us and to finish it off they also have us a small chocolate and a signed menu as a parting gift. Well done to everyone who works there, experience was one of a kind

Best michelin star restaurant I have ever been to. The quality and taste of food, the presentation, the service, the timing - everything was just perfect and left me with awe. Even though I had only opted for the two course meal, I felt very full and satisfied by the end of my experience. The entire dinner lasted 3 hours, just like they said. If you decide to dine with Under Grain, allot for extra time, as they take care in enjoying the food and the presence of others. At the end of our dinner, we even got to say our thanks to the chef! I enjoyed just about everything that was served. The rabbit dish as well as the indoor picnic were quite delicious and memorable. We were first led to a lobby to wait before heading down. Be careful, there are two restaurants with similar names: Over Grain and Under Grain. We almost walked into the wrong restaurant! You must book ahead.

After spending €440 on a tasting menu for 2, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect first class, award winning, competition beating, blow your socks off food. IT WASN'T 😪!. After a polite welcome and being up sold some fizz, we then had to wait nearly an hour for the first "snacks" to arrive. The entire evening took 4.5hrs!! Way too long and way too slow. We were actually bored by the end and couldn't wait to get out of there. The food was ok at best. It lacked flair, flavour, and the presentation was no better than a gastro pub. The service, albeit polite and slick, was far from friendly and welcoming. It felt wooden and scripted. I would sadly not recommend this restaurant.
David P — Google review
During our recent visit to Under Grain in Malta, we found the dining experience to be mostly very enjoyable, particularly with the quality of the food. The dishes were thoughtfully prepared and flavorful. However, we felt the overall quantity of food was a bit overwhelming—especially the main course featuring fish and the dessert. A slightly smaller portion, or reducing some of the additional surprise elements, might allow for a more balanced experience. The menu itself was somewhat confusing. Some courses came with extra explanations in the same font and color, but important details—such as the cheese course and caviar being charged as extras—were not clearly highlighted. This got a bit lost on us at first, especially since the waiter spoke at a very low volume and occasionally unclear, making it harder to clarify these points during service. Service-wise, the staff was attentive, but the frequent water refills felt a bit overbearing, as our glasses were continually topped up even when we weren’t drinking. It seemed a bit intrusive rather than thoughtful. Regarding the wine, we weren't particularly impressed with the pairing offered. For those who prefer not to take the full pairing, the team seemed to have limited suggestions for choosing wines by the glass. In summary, Under Grain offers good food with creative touches, but I recommend to pay close attention to the menu details, perhaps opt for selecting wines individually, and be aware that portions may be more generous than expected. It also says on their website that you cannot wear shorts, but this was not true since a few guests did. Should just remove this from the website.

My dining experience at Under grain was beautiful! The food were incredibly delicious. The service was top notch. It truly deserves its Michelin star. I also absolutely adored the random little surprises from the chef. I could not have chosen a better place for dinner. Truly wonderful, would definitely visit again.
