Burano

Island
Burano is a vibrant fishing island known for its colorful houses, seafood restaurants, and lace museum. Unlike the popular Murano with its glass-making and tourist crowds, Burano offers a more tranquil experience with its charming multi-colored houses that exude dollhouse-like cuteness. The island's seclusion allows visitors to appreciate stunning views of the lagoon and beyond, including the Veneto coast, Dolomite mountains, and the silhouette of Venice.
Beautiful colourful little island. Was so amazing to see and fairytale like. Only thing is the queue for the boat off the island takes at least an hour wait. Must see if in Venice

A nice little island about 60 minutes by public ferry from Venice. Great place to explore, eat delicious food and drink wine.
Jason K — Google review
Very lovely island, very bright and colourful. Affordable. Lots of beautiful cats walking around and nice places to eat however it is slightly more dull and ran down than i had expected given photos on social media
Carmel S — Google review
Out visit to Burano was part of our boat tour. I was looking forward to the coloured houses and it did not disappoint. It was just breath taking, I loved how each home is painted in the colour chosen by the family living in it and no other house has the same colour but can have different shades. We also saw a lace demonstration which was interesting, the length of time it takes the woman to make these, so much patience and skill. We got to try some biscuits too at the bakery and ate pizza in one of the eateries. It was an amazing trip, would definitely recommend coming here if you're in Venice, you won't regret it.
Rachel S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful little island. I loved exploring the streets and seeing the colourful houses. If you are planning on going you need to remember a few things: 1: be respectful these colourful house are peoples homes 2: stick to your right when walking! You’re in Europe now. 3: line up for the ferry 30 minutes early at least to get a comfortable seat.
Natalie — Google review
Loved that lovely island with colorful houses and cozy streets. Absolutely most visit if you're in Venice.
H M — Google review
Nice colourful buildings, however most of them are quite old and shabby (not painted for a ling time). The picture is of the nice ones Underwear hanging outside is also quite weird 🤷‍♀️ Be careful when you get back to Venice - the line to a boat is incredibly long. You need to wait no less than 30 minutes + it’s not completely clear which boat you need to take - check the schedule board - it may differ from google. The ticket is 25 euro! (it’s a day ticket, but you can’t buy any other less)
Александра Л — Google review
We caught the ferry which was an hour from San Marco. We were there before 10am so none of the shops were open. It felt like a ghost town. It is very pretty and when everything opened quite vibrant.

Specialty Museums
The Lace Museum, located in an 1870s artisan school, provides a comprehensive journey through the history of lacemaking from the 1500s. The first-floor exhibition showcases over two hundred rare and valuable examples of Venetian lace from the 16th to the 20th centuries. Visitors have the unique opportunity to witness skilled lacemakers practicing their craft each morning. Additionally, the museum houses an archive containing drawings, photographs, and other historical materials available for scholarly research.
It was an interesting experience, the lace has so many details and models, we liked the items that we saw. It's interesting to see a short movie about how the process works, how they start to create de models and how the final result looks.
Madalina O — Google review
This small museum illustrates the history of lace-making in Burano and features exhibitions of beautiful, intricate lacework. It’s included in the Venice Museum Pass and is a recommended stop if you're visiting the island. Visiting Burano itself is also highly recommended — it's like a smaller, more picturesque version of Venice, with far fewer crowds but all the charm.
Hila — Google review
Located in the Palazzo del Podestà of Torcello, the museum opened in 1981 and houses around 200 pieces of lacework dating from the 16th to the 20th century. It highlights the craftsmanship and artistic tradition of lace-making in Venice and its surrounding lagoon islands, particularly Burano, which is famed for its delicate lace. The museum is situated in the same building where the Burano Lace School operated from 1872 to 1970, training generations of artisans in this intricate craft. After extensive renovations, the museum was reopened in 2011 with updated exhibition spaces and a renewed focus on preserving and showcasing this unique element of Venetian cultural heritage. ※ Included in the Venice Museum Pass.
Seokjin H — Google review
It's a very small museum but you'll find some incredible lace works. The video on the ground floor before you go up to see the works is quite long but worth watching. Spacious locker room is available for you to store your belongings for comfortable time in the museum
Pandaz — Google review
I was on a tour, and felt very fortunate to see this part of Venetian culture. Lace work is a dying art. My tour allowed me to see perhaps the final chapter in this exquisite art form.
Kenneth J — Google review
The laces in this small museum are true masterpieces , except the newer exhibits.... It is a pity that these techniques are dying. It is even more sad that all stores in this island are selling Chinese machine made laces. Certainly not Venetian. In the museum shop you cannot find anything unique to buy. You cannot even find a book with good photos of the laces shown in the museum.
K. V — Google review
Not expensive, but not much to see. Beautiful work. If you are not a lace lover you may spend 10 to 15 minutes inside.

Ponte del diavolo

Bridge
Ponte del Diavolo, also known as the Devils bridge, is a unique and picturesque bridge located in Torcello, Venice. Dating back to the 15th century and rebuilt after WWI, it is one of only two bridges in Venice with no parapets. The bridge's photogenic charm is enhanced by its vibrant surroundings of colorful buildings and gondolas along the canal. It is recommended to visit at sunrise for a peaceful experience without crowds.
It's impressive how much weight this bridge can support! These people were lucky in the end and didn't feel the wrath of any devil.
CityScrolls — Google review
One of the bridges without railings. Of course there is a story but this may be the reason why it is called devil's bridge. It is a nice spot for photography
Berke A — Google review
Small bridge with a small shrine on one end. Nothing to do with the devil really so no dark magic here. Most likely reason it is called Devil's bridge is because the method of constructing these types of bridges was lost back in the middle ages and so people thought it was impossible to build without the devil's help. An amusing tale and fun little bridge if you go to Torcello.
Chris W — Google review
Its name is somewhat eerie, as locals call it the "Devil's Bridge" (Ponte del Diavolo). The origin of this name remains unexplained to this day. Some say "Diavolo" was a nickname for a local family, although this is unverifiable. Others suggest its origin lies in a legend: a story of a Venetian girl making a pact with the devil through a witch to save her deceased lover. However, a more credible explanation exists: the technique for constructing stone arch bridges was lost during the Middle Ages, leading people to believe that building such a bridge was so difficult that it must have required the devil's help. Furthermore, archaeological findings indicate that its foundations date back to the 13th century, while the brickwork likely dates to the 15th century. This not only supports the hypothesis but also explains why it is the oldest small bridge in the Venice area and lacks any railings. Travelers taking selfies on it should be careful not to slip and fall into the river.
林紙鶴 — Google review
The only two bridges among all the small bridges in Venice still have the old style without railings. If you have extra spare time, you can come and see. There are not many crowds and too many attractions on the whole island, which is suitable for relaxing walks.

Locanda Cipriani is a charming inn with a rich history dating back to the 1930s, located on the historic Torcello island just 30 minutes from Venice. It boasts an upscale restaurant, terrace, and garden, offering solace from the bustling city streets. The restaurant has attracted an elite clientele including Ernest Hemingway and Queen Elizabeth II and is still owned by the Cipriani family.
Our hotel recommended this restaurant and it was absolutely incredible! We arrived at almost closing time for lunch and they were gracious enough to seat us in the outdoor gardens. The entire meal was perfect! The staff was wonderful and extremely attentive. The gardens were beautiful with amazing scenery. The food was delicious! One could sit here for hours enjoying the view. The entire experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend this restaurant. I cannot say enough good things about it!
Cindy R — Google review
The grounds are beautiful. The service was really nice. The food was okay. It’s a bit of a long ride from Venice to Torcello, so we were looking forward to a nice and relaxing meal. If not for the food, it would be been a very nice experience. The surroundings were a sight to see and the staff was fairly attentive. However, the food didn’t quite level up to what this place was known for — elegance and wonderful experience.

We came here for a dinner and were a bit late, the restaurant was about to get closed. The waiter was very polite and nice and asked us to choose the main meal fast and dessert + drinks could have been ordered later. Both service and the meal were exceptional. Surroundings, ambience, everything was just right, although we just came to dine without any special occasion. Loved every second of our stay and will recommend everyone to visit this fabulous place. Many thanks, will love to come back again! ❤️

This restaurant feels a world away from the business of Venice. A tranquil location with views of the cathedral and orchards through large glass windows. It is impossible to give justice to the bucolic scenery. The food was superb. Of course the carpaccio was a standout as was my fish soup. In fact everything was so exceptional that we could not stop ordering. Plan to spend at least 2 hours savoring life here.
Dan C — Google review
Mediocre aperitivo experience. We went for the classic Bellini, but received cocktails served in your boring grandma glass (not in a good way) paired with basic supermarket chips and peanuts and served by grumpy waiters. The bill was overpriced as expected. A status symbol, little more.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The attention to detail, the quality of the ingredients and the service were faultless. The hotel has a fascinating history with many greats from Hemingway to Queen Elizabeth II to Chagall having dined or stayed here. Well worth a visit

Church of Santa Fosca

Catholic church
The Church of Santa Fosca is a modest Byzantine church located on the island of Torcello, known for its Greek cross floor plan and historical significance. It is part of a collection of culturally valuable buildings in the area, including the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and the Palazzo del Consiglio. The church is surrounded by a 5-sided portico and offers free admission to visitors.
A beautiful Byzantine style church with brick interiors. Was greeted warmly by a friendly cat! They ask you not to take photos inside here though. I suggest visiting the island as early as possible, as it gets busy after 11am.
Michael O — Google review
A Byzantine church in the island Torcello. A nice place to visit if you visit the island
Berke A — Google review
I visited the two churches for the second time. Unfortunately I ran into a very sour museum supervisor. Although the internet is full of photos from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, we were not allowed to take pictures. This restriction is stupid, because photos can be taken without flash in all the great museums of the world, and the enormous spaces in the church protect the mosaics. But I understood the rules of the game and accepted. The same caretaker, however, closed the church of St. Fosca kicked us out ten minutes earlier. He was in a hurry to get home and he was bored. For him this job is obvious boredom, but for us, who came from thousands of kilometers to enjoy these cultural things and paid entrance tickets, this was an abuse. It's a pity when there is no passion. But beyond that, the two churches and the related museum were worth all the effort. Thank you.
Sarr M — Google review
I would recommend to the provider to remove Torcello from their islands to visit. I would not recommend visiting this island or church. The man who seemed to be running the church or grounds keeper of Santa Fosca, started shouting at my group for no reason, he literally came at us, attacked us for no reason. Clearly stated he does not like tourists. This is no reason to treat us like he did. Despite relying on tourism, some gratitude and manners is in order. I see in the Santa Fosca reviews the same person has upset other visitors. Why include this island on your tour if the locals don't respect your tourism. This local has now left me giving you a poor review which effects your business. I would recommend looking for a tour of Murano and Burano only. Do not waste your time with Torcello.
Andrew M — Google review
Peaceful.. It’s nice to visit Great views of the church from the top of the bell tower
Zee ( — Google review
Amazing old Byzantine church hidden in the marshes of the old town of Torcello. Very much worth the visit to see what Venice might have looked like when it was just a small Byzantine outpost.
Lennard D — Google review
Quite a place. Very old. Pretty area to wander around and get different views of the church as well as wander inside (this one is free entry) to see the beautiful architecture. It is the main reason these days to visit Torchello for the history! And there are some good restaurants on the island also. You can taxi over or do the tour boat fairy we used through (Serenissima Motoscafi S.r.l.) it was good enough and go there and back okay. You can buy entrance onsite at the time. If you really want to spend significant time on the island then you need private transport 😉

Historical landmark
Campanile chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is a popular destination for tourists, especially during the warmer months. It is known for its Byzantine mosaics and is considered the oldest cathedral in the lagoon. Visitors can access the bell tower with a special ticket, which also includes entry to the basilica. The climb to the top of the bell tower is not very demanding but involves navigating a single narrow staircase.

The climb is not very demanding but there is a single narrow staircase, both for those going up and for those coming down. Once up you can see Torcello from above, the colorful Burano and a good part of the beautiful lagoon. AVOID THIS PLACE! only go go the museum. the view from the top is completely ruined by the net. i cannot comprehend why anyone would place such an awful, tightly packed net in such a beautiful place. the tower has potential, after people responsible for it change the net.
Jerzy K — Google review
We did not go up to top, as it was closed when we were there, but it is quite an impressive campanile/tower! It is right behind the basilica which one of the oldest in northern Italy!!
Don D — Google review
If you're used to rooftop views from various vantage points in Venice, this bell tower offers something entirely different. It's a sweeping panorama of wild, beautiful nature, with familiar landmarks visible in the distance: Venice itself, Murano, Burano, Marco Polo Airport and, on a clear day, even the Alps! Many visitors say photographing can be tricky because of the safety net. Just use the rounded openings in the mesh. And when it comes to enjoying the view, once your eyes are close to the net, your brain naturally tunes it out, letting you focus on the peaceful, beautiful, and wild scenery all around. The climb is reasonable: an inclined ramp that follows the inner perimeter of the tower, with a few stairs scattered along the way. Admission is €5 - or €9 if combined with a visit to the Basilica (which costs €5 separately).
CityScrolls — Google review
I am 80 years old, and I have seen many places in my life, but climbing the Campanile of Santa Maria Assunta will stay in my heart forever. The steps were not easy for me, but with each one I felt as though I was walking not only upward, but backward in time. When I finally reached the top, I stood still, holding the wall for support, and then I looked out. Oh, what a reward it was! The rooftops spread before me like a patchwork quilt, and the horizon seemed endless, glowing in the sunlight. For a moment I forgot my age, my tired legs, even the years behind me. I felt young again — filled with wonder, with gratitude, with life. The bells around me seemed to sing, and the breeze touched my face as gently as a blessing. I whispered a prayer, thanking God for giving me the strength to be there, to see something so beautiful. It was not just a view, it was a gift. If you ever have the chance, do not miss it. No matter how old you are, when you stand at the top of that tower, your heart will feel light as a girl’s again.

Venetian restaurant
Ristorante Villa ‘600 is a charming family-owned restaurant located in Torcello, Venice. Despite minimal marketing, the restaurant has gained popularity for its seasonal and locally sourced menu. The establishment prides itself on crafting everything in-house, from pasta to desserts. With an elegant garden featuring a playground, it's an ideal venue for weddings. Visitors have praised the traditional Venetian risotto with Go fish broth and the delightful tiramisu dessert paired with an Aperol spritz.
If you find yourself on this island with some time, stop here for a moment of peace and the freshest pasta. Sit outside in the sun and enjoy. Would recommend: pasta with simple tomato and cheese.

Lovely lunch! We had the house antipasto followed by a risotto, mixed fried fish (frittura mista) and venitian style liver (fegato alla Veneziana), all fresh and delicious. The terrace is beautiful and cool with a double aspect between the canal and the lagoon. Impeccable service. Recommended.

A full five stars. What a restaurant! An ambiance to remember- specially if you are sitting outside with a view of the sprawling greens. Superbly amicable and friendly service. Our wait staff explained patiently the details of the menu. We got seafood fritters (calamari and shrimp) and baccalà mantecato (cream of cod in a black cannoli). For the main course we went for a whole fish of the day (sea bass) which was spectacular. Had some pasta on the side. Superb - highly recommended!

This was a truly delightful experience. Walking from the ferry feels like you are somewhere in the English countryside. The setting is a bit surreal and surprising how close you are to Venice. The incredible dishes were artfully presented but the real joy is in the taste. Our favorites were the baccala cannoli and the fresh fish of the day with beautiful scalloped potatoes. The wine list includes the local wine Orto di Venezia with Chablis like crisp minerality that complements the menu so incredibly well. On top of the incredible food was the lovely hospitality of the wait staff who were very accommodating and welcoming.

A great place in the heart of Burano. The trattoria is big but busy, we had to wait on arrival to get a table but it was worth it. Anyone can find a place here, there is a terrace, a stylish and a family-friendly section. The seafood and the artichoke was amazing. Prices are high, but so is the quality. Great restaurant in Burano. Shrimp risotto and calamari were both great. Really enjoyed the calamari as it was a perfect amount of breading and had great flavor w lots of meaty pieces. Came for Lunch on a Sunday and no wait to sit outside (inside was pretty empty). Outside service could use another waiter as I could tell the two working there were very busy.

Da Romano is more than a restaurant: it’s a Burano institution. Four generations of the Barbaro family have run it since Romano turned his bottega into a trattoria around 1920. The walls are crowded with paintings, a legacy of the artists who dined here from the 1930s onwards. The food lives up to the history: a wood-grilled plate of sea bass, bream, monkfish and prawn (8.5/10); a briny-fresh frittura mista of Adriatic fish and vegetables (8/10); and the signature risotto al nero di seppie - deep, poised, umami-rich (8.5/10). Tiramisu was lighter, coffee-shy (7/10). Bussolai biscuits, meringue cake and a rare santonego grappa closed the meal - rooted in Burano, straight from the lagoon.

A charming, classic restaurant with a refined, old-world atmosphere — walls adorned with vintage photographs and paintings, waiters serving with true gentlemanly grace. We took a water bus over to the island of Burano to eat at a local restaurant that has been in the family for 4 generations, since 1920. We heard about it from Anothony Bourdain, where he went nuts over their seafood risotto, which has been made the exact same way since they opened, passing the recipe down the family line. When they first opened they just served fishermen and lace makers, but now the island is popular with tourists. On the walls of the restaurant were many famous people who had eaten there, including Robert De Niro, Keith Richards, Charlie Chaplin, Sylvester Stallone, Jane Fonda, and a very long list of other famous people. The risotto was pretty good but my favorite part was the lemon cake with meringue, it was without a doubt one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It might inspire me to make more meringues. The sea bass was good but expensive. If you’re staying in Venice a few days then you should get the multi day boat pass, it’s a lot easier and more economical.

Unexpectedly, I need to find a restaurant for lunch in Burano. Da Romano is notable on Google Map, so I decided to go. A gentle old man welcome my family. Most of servers are gentle old men, and it seems they have been here for a long time. Looks great and I can feel their history and philosophy. All foods are good. Especially, Risotto Romano is awesome 👍 (the gentle man explained one of fish cannot be caught at this season, so it is replaced. Risotto is minimum order 2 portion). Squid ink spaghetti and seafood linguine are so nice. Pomodoro spaghetti help to meet a balance of vegetable. House wines are also better than average. White wine is more impressive. If you visit Burano, Da Romano can be a good choice.

Restaurant
In the charming area of Torcello, near two sacred buildings and a provincial museum, lies the ancient Devil's Bridge with a tragic love story behind its name. Just a few meters away stands Osteria Al Ponte del Diavolo, housed in a former private villa. This restaurant offers delightful cuisine and features a stunning garden and pagoda. The friendly managers, Alberto, Roberto, and Stefano, ensure guests have an exceptional dining experience.
An oasis of beautiful tranquility with excellent food. This place felt so lovely and calm after the frenetic crowds of Venice. After a romantic stroll along the towpath and a visit to the stunning Veneto-Byzantine basilica, we settled down in an oversize marquee with a view of green green grass and pheasants roaming. The stand-out dish was the moeche fritte, a Venetian delicacy just in season, but everything was very fresh and yummy. We returned to the vaporetto feeling utterly replenished. A treat!

We had a very lovely and welcoming experience. Service at the Osteria was really good and careful, the ambient is very beautiful and elegant, even in the summer heat they have chrome fans that are very efficient. This meal made the visit to Torcello even more pleasant. Food was good and extremely fresh, we had insalata frutti (salad with seafood) and as main, the fish of the day. Amazing. The only downside is the price, which could have been a little lower. But the service, quality and atmosphere make it worth it.

This was our second visit to this wonderful restaurant. Our first visit a couple of years ago was so enjoyable, and unplanned. This time we knew we wanted to return, to enjoy the quiet of the island along with outstanding food offering. The gardens to view as you eat are tranquil. First class! We hope to visit again when we next come to Torcello.

Exceptional long lunch here facing a beautiful tranquil garden on a hot and sunny day. Professional, quiet but friendly service. Superb menu of local fresh ingredients and an excellent wine list. Expensive but very well merited. Outstanding.

We came here for lunch on the recommendation of a Venetian friend, and it was an incredible experience! The food was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was just as impressive: the waiters were attentive, kind, and made us feel truly welcome. I can highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Venice/Torcello. A real gem!

Had a wonderful lunch here. Pasta was just natural. More importantly it’s hot, fresh from the pan. I wish all pasta kitchens in the world know that pasta doesn’t taste good lukewarm. Bread is hot too, soft inside. I like the oregano/cumin one best. Beef tartar is what I expected, fresh. The staff was very friendly. The environment is beautiful.

Absolutely a must visit restaurant when in Venice. A complete hidden gem on Torcello. Wonderful food, a tranquil environment overlooking a manicured garden and such professional caring and friendly service. We arrived as a party of 12 and left so very happy. Thank you Stefano, Andrea and team. See you next time

What a beautiful experience! We returned here after around ten years and it is even better than we remembered. The setting is stunning, the staff are welcoming and the food is really sensational. We had a Bellini in the garden before we went in and were given a delicious amuse bouche, with grilled octopus and pumpkin. I had the Venetian fish appetiser, which was baby octopus, baccala and sarde in soar. Beautifully presented and very tasty. We both had pasta for our main course and it was a treat for both the eyes and the tastebuds! I had spaghetti di gragnano and my dad had the cavatelli. A really special and memorable meal! Would recommend to anyone and it’s worth the trip to Torcello!

Venissa is an upscale restaurant located in Mazzorbo, offering elegant Venetian dishes made with locally sourced ingredients from reclaimed vineyards. The restaurant provides contemporary takes on Lagoon ingredients, adding little twists to classic dishes. Vegetarian options are also available, such as ricotta gnudi with spinach and eggplant cotoletta.
Brilliant Michelin-starred restaurant on Mazzorbo, just a short walk across a bridge away from the crowds and so-so eateries of Burano. Great service and wonderful food, enjoying wine from the vineyard that we were overlooking from the terrace of their "Osteria". A most excellent lunch was had.

We booked the ristorante and a ten course menu with pairing. Was nothing short of amazing! Very nice setting, super friendly staff, who explained us everything in detail and were super keen to answer any questions. Really appreciated that, especially because the restaurant was busy. Food was like poetry and the concept is great too. Makes you wonder how we can reduce food waste and live more sustainable. Highly recommend this experience!

I proposed to my girlfriend in the vineyard here and the staff were so amazing and gracious. We did the private boat with 10 course lunch. Absolutely stunning, beautiful wines and then a drink at the outdoor bistro afterwards. This is a special place and we’ll be back. Thank you

We came back after 6 years to celebrate, and we were amazed by what cheffe Pavan and chef Brutto have done to the menù. Their approach to cuisine is remarkable and they crafted amazing dishes leveraging invasive species and avoiding waste. Amazing. Highlight for us were the cappelletti, which tasted like Xiao lon bao and the blue crab, star of the show.

Wonderfully unique wines and amazing staff, this place is an absolute gem. From the amazing story to the sustainable and community driven aspects of the winery, I couldn't have more respect for for this amazing place and all the people who contribute. I feel absolutely privileged to even try their wines much less step foot on these grounds.

I truly enjoyed this experience. I booked to include the boat ride to the restaurant. The boat was late and no one could reach the restaurant so I thought communication could have been improved on that. I booked the chef's table as I thought I would get more interaction with the chefs, but there was almost no interaction. I was the only person sitting up there, as no one else booked that experience. I felt a little awkward but that is of no fault to the restaurant. I just wanted someone to talk to, as I went alone. I did get to see some of the behind scenes of plating the dishes, but that was the only perk of booking that particular experience. I honestly would've preferred to sit alone at my own table. This is a sustainable Michelin restaurant, so some of the dishes were... unique. Most of them were delicious but there were a few that were not my taste whatsoever. I thought the beverage pairing was pretty good. They mixed different drinks in there - not just wine - and also had a mocktail. I did have another tasting menu experience in Venice that was cheaper and better, but less courses. Overall it was an interesting experience and one I would recommend for a one-time try. I thought the price was reasonable enough for the number of courses and beverage pairings.

Incredible gastronomic experience on the island of Mazzorbo, just outside Venice. Not our first Michelin-starred restaurant, but definitely one of the most memorable. We went all in with the 10-course tasting menu and wine pairing and honestly, if I could give 6 out of 5, I would. From the moment we arrived through the garden, the tone was set. They grow their own vegetables, fish their own seafood, everything is local, seasonal, and treated with real creativity. The theme was fish, and it was beautifully carried throughout the entire menu. We started with refreshing cocktails, then dove into a series of plates that surprised and delighted us. It was technically 10 courses, but we were served more than that, without ever feeling overwhelmed. Each plate was small, perfectly portioned, and full of nuance. The first entrée was stunning, both in presentation and taste. It featured raw shellfish served in beautiful open shells, with vibrant touches of yellow, blue, and green that reminded us of Murano glass. It was like being served a piece of art. One of my personal favourites was a dish built around sweet peas so fresh, delicate, and beautifully executed. And a cucumber-based dessert that totally blew my mind: light, surprising, and incredibly flavourful. One of the most original desserts I’ve ever had. The sourdough bread and kefir butter deserve their own paragraph. That butter had the texture of frosting (minus the sugar), and it was so good I almost cried when they took it away. If I’d been braver, I would’ve asked for a doggy bag to bring the leftovers home. The wine pairings were just as thoughtful, ten drinks, but with great balance. At least three were non-alcoholic (kombuchas or other creative options), which added variety without overwhelming us. And yes, our 15-year-old was with us and tasted everything. He loved it all. We were seated right in front of the kitchen, which gave us a view of the calm precision of the team plating each dish. The timing of the whole evening was flawless, despite the fact that everyone arrived around the same time and not everyone had the same menu. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but it was seamless. Yes, it’s a pricey meal. But for us, this was the kind of evening you remember for years… absolutely worth it.
Marie-Soleil C — Google review
We found out about the restaurant after seeing Chef Pavan several times on Masterchef Italia. We went to the Osteria. We got the tasting menu and a wine pairing (we also added a Spaghettone al Granchio Blu). All of the dishes were delicious, with a wide range of flavours that were all perfectly balanced. The use of km0 ingredients, and ingredients that are often discarded, or are invasive species, makes for a special meal. The wines were all very good, two of them were their own production, and all exalted the dish they were accompanying. Looking forward to returning and trying the restaurant as well.

Torcello Cathedral, originally established in the 7th century, has been restored and now showcases a collection of stunning mosaics. Situated on the remote island of Torcello, it offers a glimpse into the early history of Venice before it became prominent. The cathedral's mosaics depict thought-provoking scenes of afterlife choices and are considered to be some of the oldest Byzantine-Romanesque structures in the Venetian lagoon.
Just a short boat ride from Burano lies the island of Torcello, home to the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, a treasure trove of history and art that is well worth a visit. Founded in 639 AD, this basilica stands as the oldest cathedral in the Venetian Lagoon, offering a glimpse into the region’s early history. The basilica is renowned for its stunning mosaics, which are among the most ancient and impressive in Italy. The 12th-century mosaic of the Last Judgement is particularly noteworthy, covering an entire wall with intricate and vivid depictions that have captivated visitors for centuries. These mosaics are believed to be the work of craftsmen from Constantinople, reflecting the Byzantine influence on Venetian art. In addition to the Last Judgement, the basilica houses other significant mosaics, including the Virgin Hodegetria, the Crucifixion, and the Anastasis, each showcasing the artistic mastery of the period. Visiting the basilica offers not only a visual feast but also a serene escape from the bustling areas of Venice. The tranquil surroundings of Torcello, combined with the basilica’s historical ambiance, make for a contemplative experience. Opening Hours: • March to October: 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM (last entrance at 5:30 PM) • November to February: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (last entrance at 4:30 PM) Please note that the ticket office closes 30 minutes before the basilica’s closing time. A visit to the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta is a journey through time, offering insights into the rich tapestry of Venetian history and art. It’s an experience that should not be missed.

Quite disappointed in this place. Was told it is worth the visit but seems more like most parts are closed for work and there is a whole list of things you can't do including taking photos. The most interesting part is the mosaics which was closed... and if you need to use the WC then you have to pay an additional 1.5 Euros (June 2025 so may be more by the time you read this). To really add injury to insult, despite being catholics we were refused entry into the church to pray. Not the worst thing the Catholic church has done, but their decision was financial based so very clearly corruption runs deep and at grass roots in the church, which is truly a crying shame In short we just didn't see the point in spending 10 euros for not being able to see much, be insulted for our religion and not even be able use basic facilities. Can't comment on the inside and don't really want to. The island if Torcello itself is very nice and definitely worth a visit. To get there go to Burano and get the number 6 boat from platform A ( which is just along from the main platform B/C - as you come out of B/C turn right and platform A is about 50/100metre away.

This is a masterpiece of Byzantine art and mosaics. Often when you visit such places, one is disappointed because they never quite your expectations on size, hover the primary wall is absolutely gigantic. It is a rare survivor in the modern era of the style of art. Used to be something of a well kept secret but now has many visitors. Again, and somewhat disappointingly, it is forbidden to take photos inside, even though one pays to enter. Also recommended is climbing the campanile, which of course provides excellent views across the lagoon, especially of Murano.

Do not waste your time or money on Torcello Basillica Church. Not worth seeing. Not worth the 5 euro ticket. Very rude staff (all 3 - ticket office, entrance and in the basillica). Clearly do not welcome tourists. Cannot take photos. Need to be a bit more respectful to the tourists, as you rely on tourism. Do not waste your time on this island Torcello.

It's a stunning cathedral. It's the oldest cathedral of Venice. The exterior shows the decline the island itself has shown. But the inside is stunning. They don't allow you to click photographs but the interior has amazing mosaic work on the floor and the walls. I'd definitely recommend

Not as one fifth big as the archaeological museum of Venice but far more interesting. Many small pieces from the island with detailed introduction. Combined ticket for the church, the bell tower and the two small museums at a very reasonable price.

I have to mark it down mainly due to rude staff. Normally when you pay an entrance fee they have a toilet, Torcello only has 1 public bathroom which you have to pay €1.50. This would have been okay, if it was open. It was closed for maintenance, and the staff didn’t know so when I kept asking they kept telling us to go there, other people were having the same issue. Then they basically said not our problem, and one person recommended the bar. Too bad bars aren’t open in the morning. The actual exhibit I found okay, some interesting pieces

At 5 pm it was closed and deserted. Sadly, the cathedral closes even earlier and there's nothing else to do at Torcello. I recommend spending the time wandering the calles of Burano, they look amazing.

The small but interesting collection is divided between two buildings, the Palazzo dell’Archivio (archaeological finds from the mainland) and, in my opinion, the more interesting Palazzo del Consiglio (medieval artefacts, many of which come from the handful of churches and convents that once flourished on Torcello). Ristorante Villa ‘600 is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience, especially when you choose to sit outdoors and soak in the breathtaking views of lush greenery. The atmosphere feels almost like a serene escape from the bustling streets of Venice, reminiscent of the English countryside. The staff here are incredibly welcoming and take their time to guide you through the menu with genuine enthusiasm.

Good food, good prices, and fun location. We loved the goats and Guinea pigs. Super cool handmade chairs that are surprisingly comfortable. Ordering can be a little chaotic if it’s busy and your Italian is sorely lacking (like mine). But it works out and you get food. We ended up ordering plain spaghetti with just butter for my son, who only ate half (he liked it, just not a great eater) and then we put some of the shrimp and courgette on it and that was DELICIOUS!! If we could eat that everyday we’d be happy! They used edible (thick cracker) bowls and we thought that was cool. Fun to sit in the garden and drink. I did get stung by a bee between my toes, but I was wearing sandals and walking through flowering clover. Uggh! My bad.

Was recommended by our airbnb host, but not sure why. Food was Ok, too salty mostly. Plates made of bread was not really appealing to eat, like a hard tasteless cracker. Lots of birds, lots of insects, tables not too clean due to being outside (and birds, remember?). Wouldn’t go again.

We loved eating outside and the seafood pasta was delicious! The servers were attentive. Location great!

This is where Venetians hang on the weekend with their families. Simple menu, deliciously cooked, house wine on tap and lots of space for kids on a playground, too. Loved the seafood risotto, and fritto misto!
