Museum
Castelul Corvinilor, also known as Corvins' Castle, is a Renaissance fortress that was reconstructed in the 19th century. This well-preserved Gothic masterpiece has been featured in several movies and is one of the largest castles in Europe. It holds historical significance as it was rumored to be the place where Vlad the Impaler, also known as Dracula, was imprisoned for several years.
Loved it. It is everything you'd hope a castle would be. Along with its rich history, the castle still has many of its Gothic architectural features, some remaining frescoes, endless staircases, passages, rooms and towers to explore. A whole lot of fun. We managed to get there just as it was opening, and being the first ones to enter had the castle to ourselves, at least for a short while. Definitely one of my favourite castles in Romania.
Chris B — Google review
Incredible experience. Also great on Halloween, as it's very spooky and theme decorated. The torture chambers were also spooky, and I do not recommend entering with a child that's not above 12+. It's very spaceful and wasn't that busy! One of the best castles I've been too and definitely recommend visiting it!
Sara S — Google review
The castle is impressive from the outside but inside there are predominantly empty rooms. However, it's fun too walk through corridors, stairs and passages. There is an amazing view from one of the towers. The nearest parking is 20 lei per day.
Tanya K — Google review
We did a daytrip to Hunedoara from Sibiu. Initially I planned to visit it on our way to Timisoara, but it would fall on a Monday, and on Mondays the castle opens at noon which would affect our plans for the day. Street parking around the castle is tight as they closed the parking lot for some reason. Admission is heavy by Romanian standards at 50 lei (25 lei for seniors) but it's worth it. The castle is very well kept and the interior looks pretty modern in spots but the castle is large and impressive. I'm no fan of medieval castles but this one is a must.
Ron S — Google review
The castle was very impressive and beautiful. There was plenty to see and do there as a castle/medieval period enthusiast. The price of entry was reasonable 50lei/adult. Only few downsides were that the castle was under renovation (it's understandable) and that guidance in the castle was confusing. The rooms had numbers but they were all mixed up.
Lassi N — Google review
I had the great pleasure of visiting Hunedoara Castle, also known as Corvin Castle. This magnificent fortress, located in Transylvania, was originally built in the 15th century by John Hunyadi, one of Hungary’s most powerful noblemen and military leaders. The castle served both as a stronghold and a noble residence, and over the centuries it has witnessed many historical events, legends, and even dark tales that add to its mysterious charm. It is an amazing place that truly allows you to feel the atmosphere of real medieval times, with its massive towers, stone courtyards, and slightly dark interiors that whisper stories from the past. There aren’t many tourists, the parking area is close to the castle, and overall it’s not an expensive trip. The panoramic view from the castle walls is breathtaking! Definitely, this place is worth visiting — go there and step back in time! It's worth to arrive at place to see the castle during day and night - two different stories & effect! WOW....gothic style is really DARK at night! Some tailes connected: There is a rumor that Dracula - Vlad III (Vlad the Impaler), the ruler of Wallachia, was imprisoned here for seven years. See added pictures - as you can see the tradition of impaing still "lives". Corvin Castle could have been the model (or at least one of the models) for the fictional “Castle Dracula” because of its dramatic Gothic-look and its connection to Vlad. The Legend of Hunedoara Castle Just after building the castle, its lord-builder, John Hunyadi, ordered a great well to be dug in the courtyard. He promised freedom to the Turkish prisoners who could find water in the rocky ground. For years, they worked day and night, carving through stone with hope and desperation. After fifteen long years, water finally sprang from the earth. But instead of granting them freedom, Hunyadi broke his promise. Before the prisoners were executed, one of them carved an inscription on the well’s wall: “You have water, but no soul.” - see one of the pic. (in arab). To this day, the well still stands in the castle yard — and some say that at night, if you listen closely, you can hear the echo of the prisoners’ voices rising from its depths.
Slawomir P — Google review
Among the few castles in Romania, it is in the process of renovation. Over the years, different parts of the castle have been opened for visits and you can climb in all the towers. The steps of the stairs are high and not easy to climb if you are not trained. Unfortunately, the landscape around the castle is not special, the castle being in an old communist industrial area. You can also visit recreated torture chambers.
Monica A — Google review
We didn’t get inside the castle, it was too expensive (50 Lei per person). The castle is beautiful. They started to refurbish the castle so some of it covered at this time. There are few souvenirs stores on the way to castle and we loved them - lots of beautiful souvenirs, very nice. A parking near by (can’t remember the price, around 20 Lei). Toilets at the parking for 3 Lei.

Museum
Muzeul Casa Breslelor is an intriguing addition to the Corvin Castle, housed in a structure known as the "Administrator's House." This museum showcases six themed halls, including the Shoemaker's Workshop, Smokers' Workshop, Weaver's Workshop, Hall for Roma Craftsmen, and Numismatics Exhibition Hall. Visitors can explore cultural artifacts of historical significance such as workshop items and medieval and modern coins.
A short and sweet trip a few centuries back! We would've walked right past it if our castle tickets didn't mention it. It's just a few rooms but quite insightful.

Small museum that comes along as a bonus on the ticket for the Hunyadi Castle Informative and hosting a few old exhibits it does a wonderful job explaining the guilds system that was the backbone of society half a millennium ago It's located opposite the castle in a house that was not marked as a museum at the time of my visit, be sure to ask around for it so you don't miss it

In the days when the production of goods was done by craftsmen, they enjoyed the respect of the whole community. Very interesting exhibition. Middle ages was definitely not a good time to be alive.
Anca A — Google review
Very well-organised. But very graphic display. I saw children that were afraid in there .This exhibition is for 14 years old and older. It's totally ok for adults but not children. I would never bring my child there. There should be at least a sign saying it's not recommended for children under 14. That's why I took one star out.

I liked it, I wish it was bigger 🥹

The exhibition looks realistic due to all the life-sized mannequins and the torture devices. Adding to the realism are the sound effects as well but they get a bit repetitive after some time.

The best and the bigest Miniature Trains Musseum in Romania. Great place to bring your kids...
Sebastian M — Google review
The Valentin Banciu Miniature Train Museum is a hidden gem that brings joy to both children and adults. Located in a cozy and welcoming space, this museum showcases an impressive collection of model trains, carefully built and maintained by passionate creator Valentin Banciu. Each miniature train runs on beautifully designed tracks, passing through tiny towns, mountains, tunnels, and stations, all built with incredible attention to detail. Visitors are amazed by the moving trains, flashing signals, and realistic sounds that create a magical, lifelike atmosphere. It’s a fascinating journey into the world of railway modeling and a tribute to the history of trains and transportation. What makes this museum truly special is the personal touch. Mr. Banciu himself often guides visitors, sharing stories and technical details with warmth and enthusiasm. His dedication and love for this art form shine through every corner of the exhibit. Whether you’re a train enthusiast or just looking for a charming, educational outing, this museum is absolutely worth the visit. It inspires curiosity, creativity, and nostalgia. A wonderful place for families and anyone who wants to experience something unique and heartwarming.

Once in a lifetime experience ! Lots of fully functional modeltrain dioramas to see, also with interactive buttons for the public to push and activate various scenarios. You have model trains running on H0, H0e scale and also a dedicated diorama with tramway ! Lots of modeltrains and modelcars on display. Also, there is a small shop where you can buy yourself an modeltrain or modelcar. You have to come to Hunedoara and see it for yourself !

Nestled in Hunedoara, the Muzeul Comunismului Hunedoara offers a captivating glimpse into Romania's past during the Communist era. This small yet immersive museum showcases an array of authentic artifacts, from toys and military uniforms to household items like sewing machines and vintage televisions adorned with glass fish. Visitors can explore old photographs, furniture, and even a recreated classroom that vividly illustrates life during this challenging period known as the "Golden Age.
It's a must see place! We've been here today and it was an outstanding experience for us, due to the very nice kenyan guide. We are very grateful to have the pleasure to meet you and for your personal guide for us (we were only there). It was another pleasure to meet the founder of the museum, who was a very kind and intelligent man. God bless you all! For those who don't speak English, maybe the guide won't speak another language then english, italian, german or france, but if you can't speak at least one of these languages you are surely from outside of Europe.

I visited the Communist Museum in Hunedoara and it was honestly really interesting. Even though it's small, everything felt so real—old photos, clothes, furniture, even a classroom from back then. It made me realize how hard life was during communism. What I really liked was how friendly and chill the people there were. They explained everything in a way that made it easy to understand, not boring at all. Super nice experience overall. I recommend you come! It's worth it!🤍🤗 ~Lori.

We had an amazing visit to the Communist Museum, and a big thank you goes to Mr. Romica, our tour guide. The food experience at Placinta Huniadului, a fast food restaurant, was exceptional. The langos and crispy chicken fingers with fries and garlic sauce were truly delicious. It is unfortunate that those living in Arad cannot order any of this mouthwatering fare. The burgers at this establishment are the best ever, so much so that after having one, customers find themselves wanting another. Not only are the burgers absolutely amazing, but the lady who works there is also incredible.
Amazing pizza! ⚡️ I like the fact that the ingredients are fresh and perfectly balanced. They have an interesting variety of pizzas, which I love. My favorite is the vegetarian pizza, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Lots of love, La Rotta!🫶❤️🍕 They ate, now we eat 🤪

La Cramă in Hunedoara, Romania offers a variety of traditional Romanian dishes such as pork cutlet and mici. The restaurant is known for its good food at decent prices, although the service can be slow and the tables are close together. The menu features a large selection of Romanian dishes and a dessert menu consisting mainly of pancakes. Visitors recommend trying the soups, mains, and orange-lemonade. Food is very good but the service is very slow! Waiters are sitting at the bar, drinking and talking and food is ready at the kitchen window. I almost think to go there to get my dish myself... they also did not bring soup ahead main food. Hotel Restaurant Corviniana is a charming guesthouse with cozy rooms and a quaint restaurant. The restaurant exudes a 1900s vibe and offers delicious homemade dishes, including Ciorba de vacuta and Papanasi for dessert. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and some offer stunning views of the Cerna River. Guests praise the warm ambiance, attentive service, and freshly squeezed raspberry juice.
We only used the restaurant and were very very impressed with the quality of the food, the freshness, made to order and the choice for vegetarians. I would highly recommend it even if you're not a vegetarian, but especially if you're a vegetarian, because not many places cater for us. Don't be put off by the old fashioned look in the restaurant, the food is fab! I would highly recommend the traditional papanasi, the best we've ever had!

Stayed here one night with my family in a quadruple room. The room is really wonderful, with a medieval feeling, still modern, and cozy. Clean, spacious, cozy beds, excellent. The single thing I didn't like was the noise of the traffic. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, with a rich menu, and reasonable price. I liked staying here.

Wow, I cannot say enough wonderful things about my recent stay at Hotel Corviniana in Hunedoara Romania! From the moment I walked through the door, I was welcomed with such warm and friendly atmosphere that truly made me feel right at home. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable, making it easy for me to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring. And speaking of exploring, the historic ambiance of the entire building was just stunning, coupled with the breathtaking views of the water which were incredibly serene and tranquil. The proximity to the castle was incredibly convenient, making it easy for me to immerse myself in the local culture and heritage that Hunedoara had to offer. And to top it all off, the food and service were so above par, catering to my every need with such grace and care. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience at Hotel Corviniana. If you're planning a trip to Hunedoara, this hotel is an absolute must! Thank you to the wonderful hosts for such a splendid experience and I truly hope to be back again soon. Highly recommend! 🌟🏨👌

Guest house
The accommodation at Hanul Huniazilor received positive feedback from guests who stayed there with their friends. They mentioned that the rooms were clean and the location was pleasant. The garden offered a great view of the castle and had a lovely fountain, as well as several charming cats. While the service was deemed acceptable, it was noted that only the terrace and restaurant were wheelchair accessible, not the rooms due to tight bathrooms. However, one major advantage of this guest house was its parking lot.
We stayed one night in April 2025. The room was great: very clean, spacious, comfortable bed. We also had dinner: food was delicious and great service. It also has a great view of the castle and the courtyard is very nice.
Aniri R — Google review
My review is for the restaurant only. It was a very, very dissappointing experience. After 15 min waiting at the table I had to call the waitres who came after another 5 min with the menus just to advise us that there is at least one hour waiting time for the food. ( nothing special) A bit surprising as there were only 3 tables occupied so I was told that they are very busy with deliveries that day. I was asked to return on a less busier day ( than Thursday).

Hanul Huniazilor is a charming place with delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. The dishes are well prepared, flavorful, and nicely presented, and the portions are generous. The service is friendly and welcoming, making the meal even more enjoyable. The location adds to the experience, with a warm, traditional vibe that makes you feel at home. A solid choice for a great meal just a step away from perfect.

One night stay, very quiet, clean and food was great. Recommend the soups. Front desk lady was lovely and even with language barrier was able to answer to every doubt. Perfect place for visiting the 2-min away corvinus castle

A great place to have a good meal after a vizit to the corvin castle. Lovely garden with play space for kids. Great food and good portions. We have not used the accommodation of the place so I can't give an opinion regarding that but as a restaurant terase is a great place.

At the conclusion of the program, a staff member from the ticket kiosk provided a guided tour and shared insights into the site's historical significance. The customer service was exceptional, and the overall experience was captivating. This location serves as a memorial to Romanian citizens who bravely rebelled against the oppressive Austro-Hungarian empire, offering a concentrated glimpse into Transylvanian history. While one significant tree has perished but been preserved, numerous younger trees remain in its place, ensuring continuity.
Even though was the end of the program the lady from the ticket kiosk came and showed around and explained the history of the place. Absolutely beautiful and fabulous customer service. If you ever are in the area stop and enjoy the views and history. 💖🙏👌

Museum
One of the most emblematic museums of the Apuseni. Here you can see exhibits of millions of years of rock and part of the gold extraction from the Zarand area. It is special, fascinating, the work and seriousness of the Toda family made this stone museum unique, I say, in the whole world.
Serban R — Google review
Very very nice private museum. It is a great example of how to do it for a lot of paid public museums and this one's entrance is FREE. The owners are very polite and explains everything in there and even though it looks small, it has an impressive collection of pieces. There is also a shop for buying a souvenir. There's no entrance for disabled people unfortunately. There is enough space for parking your car, also don't let you be intimidated by the deplorable state of the surrounding buildings, the place seemed safe :). It is worth visiting even if you have to detour just for it.
Catalin P — Google review
Very nice and interesting visit! It is pretty clear that the owner and also the founder of the museum is very passionate about his work and put a lot of effort into gathering the impressive mineral collection.I highly recommend visiting the museum!

An absolutely magnificent place. You can feel in your bones that you’re in the presence of special energies! And the people who run it are local heroes, have been personally creating the collection for decades. An absolute must-see!

This is an exceptional experience in the Apuseni Mountains, in the heart of Tara Moților. You will have the unique opportunity to meet not only the tour organizers but also the very collectors of these exquisite stones. Engaging directly with the explorers provides an invaluable layer to the experience, allowing for detailed insights into their passion and work. Furthermore, you will receive in-depth explanations on any topic of interest and have the option to purchase these unique products at very fair prices.

Amazing family work in the heart of the Apuseni Mountains. Either for professionals or just amateurs, this museum has something for everyone. You’ll learn a lot about geology and minerals from two very passionate people. There is no entrance fee but it’s highly recommended to stop by at the souvenir shop. Will always come back with pleasure :)

The Castrum of Micia

Historical landmark
The Castrum of Micia is a historical site located in the heart of Italy. This ancient fortress offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich past, with its well-preserved ruins and artifacts. The site provides an immersive experience, allowing guests to explore the remains of old buildings and imagine life in ancient times. The Castrum of Micia is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone interested in experiencing Italy's cultural heritage firsthand.
(Translated by Google) The Mintia fort (in ancient times it was called Micia - read Michia) is located south of Mureş, in front of the gorge, thus having the role of defending this access road to the center of Transylvania, as well as the role of supervising the adjacent mining area and trade on Mureş. It had a quadrangular shape (360 meters long and 180 meters wide), placed somewhat strangely: traditionally a Roman fort had the narrow side facing the enemy, but here the curmezis is positioned over the road and the railway, with the long side to the west. It is possible that in front of the castle, in Mures, there was a port whose traces are no longer visible today, and a system of rapid water passage for interventions. The ruins marked in Google Maps as the Micia fort are actually the canabae, that is, the civil settlement that formed around a fort (initially the market place, warehouses, places to eat and drink, houses with more liberal female presences, then houses and temples). The castle itself is hardly visible, one can only guess the waves of earth along the path of the walls. There was an initial earth phase executed immediately after the conquest, then one with stone walls (mainly augite and andesite) 2.10 meters wide, with a river stone foundation bound with mortar.

Hunedoara Zoo

Zoo
Hunedoara Zoo, established in 1972 and located on Padurii Street at the edge of the protected area of Chizid Forest, is home to a diverse collection of animals. Visitors can admire a total of 21 species, including mountain goats, llamas, bears, lions, tigers, baboons, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, pigeons, foxes and turtles.
Hard to reach ( on hilltop) but a nice place to visit. Available animals as of may 2024: a mountain goat, 2 lamas, a bear, a lioness, 2 tigers, a family of baboons, plenty of guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and pigeons, turtles and a huge crow all alone in a cage, visibly distressed, trying to escape (very unfair to keep her caged as she represents the city). Nice staff except for the four legged buddy that tried to bite us while exiting the zoo on our bikes.
Roxana G — Google review
Nice place for a quick visit to the Zoo! Saw the tigers which was very nice. Not a high quality zoo, but for the price it is more than Great! And the people working there are fantastic!
David T — Google review
The zoo is surrounded by luscious greenery and it's slightly up hill so it's a beautiful walk from the city centre with views of the valley and mountains. The zoo itself is compact with clear paths. All animals look healthy but I think the zoo operates on a small budget. We had a great time especially watching the monkeys. Ticket only 10 lei.
Monica M — Google review
This is the most inhuman and disgusting way to keep animals. The poor bear and no water in his cage that’s was just made up of rusty bars and concrete, the bear also appears to have a broken nose or something wrong with is nose and looks malnourished. The lioness have no male and looks lonely and the tiger was kept in a small concrete room and they also have barley Andy space outside. The wolve looks weak and also had no water and the cage was again rusty bars and concrete. The monkeys were so hungry that they start digging for worms. This zoo need to start changing or be closed down utter disgrace!!
David R — Google review
Unfortunately, this is one of the worst Zoo ever visited. Half of the cages were empty. Very few animals present, only some turtles, guinea pigs, rabbits, monkeys and donkeys. It takes like 10 minutes to visit the whole zoo.
Raul P — Google review
We visited the zoo because it was 600m away from our guesthouse, it looks like a large garden with some cages where you can find pigeons, guinea pigs, rabbits, a fox, a bear, a tiger, a lion and some other birds. It looks weed-grown, we saw only one caretaker + the man from the tickets; By the way a ticket for an adult costs 5 lei. You can visit it if you’re curios but it’s not a big attraction to see.
Stefania S — Google review
I've liked the baboon family with one baby baboon, they have other animals as well but there could be even more animal exhibits.

Great place, stood here for one night, the room was clean, the personnel was very nice and helpful.
