Newborough, on the southwest coast of Anglesey, is known for its sweeping sandy beach backed by dunes and fragrant pine forest. Maes Parcio Ynys Llanddwyn, also known as Newborough Beach or Traeth Llanddwyn, is a stunning 3.5-mile stretch of golden sand in North Wales. It's a popular destination with plenty of amenities and a convenient car park nearby. Visitors can explore the beach, sand dunes, and even walk to the island during low tide. The surrounding woods offer various walking routes for all levels of hikers.
Amazing location. We did the blue route through the woods then round to the light house and back via the beach. Route was easy to follow (well signed) and offered a bit of everything. Not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs but ok for children - 7+ or those who enjoy walking. The dog beach was perfect. Go early as it started to get very busy from 2pm.

Didn’t expect quite so much but this was a country park that really delivered. Great walk, stunning beach and scenery and some interesting history/geology stuff for the intellects in the group! Parking wise you go through an ANPR barrier on entrance and pay on exit (£5 for first 2 hours then 70p per 20 mins) and no other entrance fee - so pretty good value overall.

Newborough beach is one of Wales best. It also happens to be my favourite. It takes a half hour walk across the beach to reach the beautiful Ynys Llanddwyn. The island is worth walking to with it's church ruins and lighthouse. The little hidden coves are a gem. The beach is dog friendly from 1st September until 1st April. The summer holidays are a nightmare for traffic for visitors and especially the locals. We usually go off season. The beach is amazing with clear water whatever time of year you visit. The car park costs £5 for 2 hours and then you pay for every 20 minutes after that. We were there for 3 hours today and it cost us £7.80.
Faith O — Google review
Amazing place for a walk or relax on the beach. We walked from the car park where there is toilet facilities to the lighthouse. It's about 45 minute walk but amazing views on a clear sunny day. Only bad thing was getting out the car park takes far to long need a better system.
Tony H — Google review
Honestly one of my favourite places in the world. Stunning. If you aren't fond of unpredictable weather and hate the wind and rain, plan carefully and check on the day. Water is just gorgeous for a dip all year round if you're so inclined. :-)
Sorcha B — Google review
It is a place where you can stay for a few days and find it equally enjoyable every single day. There is a huge forest with walking and cycling routes and also next to it, there is a sandy beach. The beach is clean, with beautiful views and a lighthouse to which you can walk up to. The car park is huge with toilet facilities.
Magdalena — Google review
Beautiful beaches, you wouldn’t believe this is the UK. Blue crystal waters, great for swimming. Many peaceful and more remote beaches off the main beach. Surrounded by all the hills/mountains of Wales in the distance. My favourite place to swim, sunbathe and take on the views in the UK
Ayanna’s A — Google review
Really interesting place. Looking at this place on a map there may not seem much here to see but that is deceptive. The approach by car is well signposted through some very picturesque woodland. There is a surprisingly modern automated ANPR entrance to the car park. No ticket required just pay on exit either cash or card. The car park is quite large and laid out on two levels. There are toilets and at the time of our visit a hot food and drinks van. As it was a cold blustery day a bacon and egg bap was most welcome before we set off to explore. We didn't go into the forest particularly as we wanted to get to the beach. This was very well signposted and the path was quite easy to walk. The beach itself is very large and clean. Sadly we did manage to get across to the island as the tide was coming in. The crossing over the sand really is covered quickly so watch out for that. We did have a nice visit and intend to return for a second attempt to explore the island with its buildings. Parking cost for our 3 hour stay was £6.40 not the cheapest but ok. I belive the current maximum charge for the day is around £7. If you dont intend to visit the beach there are other parking areas in amongst the trees before you get to the main carpark. I would recommend a visit.

Llys Rhosyr, located on the outskirts of a present village, offers a glimpse into Welsh medieval history. The ruined court buildings add a historical layer to the area and are complemented by interpretive materials. For those interested in Welsh history, it's worth a visit while on the way to the nearby beach with golden sands and dunes. The site also holds spiritual significance for some visitors who feel a connection with something when visiting this historical location.
Really nice beach, golden sand and dunes galore. One side of the divide faces the North Sea, the other is more sheltered and practically deserted. Car park is £5 but very nice and large with wide bays - loads of camper and day vans there. There is seating and there are barbecue stands, waste recycling etc. Toilets pretty good, though one pedestal was out of action in my visit.
Andrew G — Google review
Nice bit of history 2 mins walk from my campsite. It was difficult to see the ruins in some places as the grass was quite high but I guess that deters people from walking all over them. Clear path all the way around though
Sarah B — Google review
If you're into the medieval history of Wales, this is a great little site to visit. There's not a ton to see, but the interpretive materials are good.

Nestled in the heart of Anglesey, the Anglesey Transport Museum & Café - Tacla Taid invites visitors to embark on a nostalgic journey through time. Set against a charming backdrop of a 1940s cobbled street, this delightful museum boasts an extensive collection of over 100 classic vehicles that span from the 1920s onward.
We were riding our motorcycles in mixed weather and decided to stop at the transport museum. Wow what a fantastic place. You could spent days in there and not see everything. Its great value i think the admission price is to cheap. The cafe is good with really friendly staff.

Fantastic collection of classic vehicles from years gone by. Loads to look including military vehicles. Well laid out and maintained pieces. There’s also a cafe. Great little activity for the family or anyone with an interest in this sort of thing. I’m not a big motor head at all but I enjoyed the retro cars and bikes. 🚗 🏍️
G T — Google review
If I’m honest, I didn’t have very high expectations for this place and imagined that it would just be a load of old vehicles in a shed. However, I was pleasantly surprised. As a late baby boomer, I could relate to most of the vehicles as those that were owned by parents or in my own early driving years. Each vehicle had an interesting description/history and all were in very good condition. I didn’t think I’d find the agricultural or military vehicles that interesting but actually I did! There’s an on site cafe and even a caravan site and children’s playground so it’s definitely worth a stop.
Nick D — Google review
Interesting museum. Lots of old vehicles with information about them. It was good to see some of the motor bikes I knew in my youth and the grand old cars of yesteryear. There were a couple my dad had and a viva which was my first car. It's not very big but enough to look at and spend a couple of hours at at. Worth the visit before returning home after a holiday.
Veronica M — Google review
Only visited because the weather wasn't, but glad we did its bigger than it initially appears, three barns of vintage cars, bikes, farm vehicles and military vehicles. All in great condition and laid out so you can get close to them. There's a great cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, large play field and swing etc. Both the museum and the cafe were dog friendly. The staff were friendly and helpful
Richard W — Google review
While touring the island we stopped for a coffee and despite its remote location it was very busy, especially families with kids enjoying the play area. Coffee shop is ok and busy - tough and ready but a very good vibe, with old car magazines (1980’s) and eclectic souvenirs on sale
David F — Google review
An awesome place for any petrol head! There's a fantastic selection of classic cars, motorbikes, military vehicles and engines! There's a lovely café (that offer some gluten free options), there's a kids play area and large field. Staff extremely friendly, dogs are very welcome. Throughly enjoyed the visit. We will definitely be back again

We drove to the museum because we love cars and it was on the Isle of Anglesey which we decided to visit today. The museum is small but it has a few cars that lovers will be into. They have a cafe that you have a coffee/tea and cakes before visiting the museum. The staff of the museum was very friendly and helpful.

Tapas bar
Nestled near the enchanting Newborough forest, the Red Squirrel Tapas Bar first opened its doors in 2014 and has since become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. With its namesake inspired by the charming red squirrels that inhabit the area, this cozy establishment has evolved from a quaint café into a vibrant tapas bar. By acquiring an alcohol license, they now offer delightful evening dining alongside their renowned loose leaf teas and freshly ground coffees during the day.
Service was incredible, very friendly owners who treated us very well. We arrived as they were putting chairs away and they said they would squeeze us in and i am so glad they did. The food was sensational and the hosting was superb. Would highly recommend to anyone. Even sold us their last snowdonia smoked cheese out of the kindness of their hearts.

A really lovely tapas bar and one of the highlights of our holiday. The food was amazing. My partner and I shared 6 plates and it was all delicious, served fast and was freshly made. The host, Di, and all the staff were very friendly and made time to chat to us. Would highly recommend

Excellent little Tapas bar/cafe, not the biggest menu but plenty for everyone. The food was fantastic loads of flavours and well presented. The owners were great and couldn't be more welcoming. The drink selection was good with a large selection of local beers etc. The house red wine was really good as well. It's now big so you really do need to booked. I will definitely go again when we're in the area, sorry no photo food was too good to be taking photos

I went there last year and tried my first ever tapas. It was delightful, tasty and enough food. The atmosphere here is great. Local beers and produce gives a low carbon footprint on food travel.

We were staying in our campervan and called a couple hours before to ask for a table on Friday evening, very lucky the owner answered and said she could fit us in. Our first wedding anniversary so we wanted to eat out. Lovely people, tasty food and beautiful artwork. Working in hospitality myself for a long while, these ladies have the best attitude and it was especially nice to see how they treated a late diner with his daughter. Really nice people plus good food- why wouldn't you go? Thank you to the team at the Red Squirrel
Georgia W — Google review
What an amazing tapas bar! Super friendly and cosy - hosts Di and Sue were the best at looking after us all evening! The food was delicious and the place had such a wholesome vibe. We’ll definitely be returning on our next trip to Newborough ☺️ can’t recommend enough!
Chloe J — Google review
What a special place! We were staying in our caravan up the road and, whilst waiting outside the chip shop next door, were thoughtfully offered water for our hot dogs (no, not hot-dogs!!) We got chatting and booked ourselves in for a meal the following evening, our last night. We were not disappointed. Di and Sue happily accommodated the two of us and our three dogs and served not just the best tapas, but the best vegetarian food we’ve eaten out in ages. Excellent food, wide drinks choice, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Thanks to Di and Sue - and the young feller, working hard in a hot kitchen - for making our last holiday night very special. We’ll definitely return!

Fish and chips takeaway
Nestled in the charming village of Newborough, Wales, The Codmother is a delightful fish and chip shop that has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors alike. This quaint eatery prides itself on serving fresh fish sourced from sustainable fishing areas, ensuring that every bite is not only delicious but also environmentally responsible. With ingredients exclusively from North Welsh suppliers, you can taste the local flavor in every dish.
Superb Fish and Chips. One of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. Staff were lovely too. Fish was cooked fresh to order so a short wait for it to be prepared, but no problem. Recommended!
Iain M — Google review
I thought chippies were meant to be fast food. Over a 20 minute wait for just one portion of chips and curry sauce. Price expensive for the area, plus they charge 10p for a wooden fork! Chips were the worst chips I've ever had in my life. Not proper thick cut chippy chips, cut from fresh potatoes, but frozen thinner oven style chips. Oil not hot enough so the chips were undercooked and seriously soggy/oily. Curry sauce was rank too and so watered down it was impossible to dunk the chips in. I ate about 5 chips then they went straight in the bin. That's what you get when you hire teenagers to man the fryer. Despite what the owner claims, I haven't got all confused and reviewed the wrong chippy. Chips were definitely frozen as I saw a large bag of frozen chips being taken out of the chest freezer behind the till. The only older woman working there was in the till. The others were all teenage girls. Added a photo as proof I haven't reviewed the wrong chippy and just so show how soggy rank they were
Katie M — Google review
Fish and Chips were very nice. Ordered and ready within 10 minutes. Just the perfect portion size too. Reasonably priced which is a bonus. Very friendly staff Thanks!
Alex T — Google review
Lovely fish n chips. Quick service and reasonable prices. Only 0.7 miles away from our campsite so close enough for food still to be hot. Definitely worth a visit for a chippy tea plus a curry sauce
James R — Google review
Friendly local chip shop. Nice, slightly thinner cut chips, but still satisfyingly chunky. Tasty curry sauce, does pea fritters too, although sadly were out of stock of banana fritters and battered mars bars when we visited. Nice little seating area too. Main downside: cash only. Come on guys, make it easy for us to spend more money!
Chris L — Google review
This place is great for coeliacs on a diet as this chippy is unable to provide gluten free food if they are busy. Potential customers are encouraged to exercise by being told that they cater for gluten free when contacted prior to attending meaning that people can get their steps in on a wasted journey. They promote a strong wellbeing culture for their staff by ensuring that they are not contactable by phone approaching meal times and if the phone does ring, they ensure that it isn't answered. Be wary of attending this place at peak times as if it gets busier, they may not be able to serve any food at all. -10/10 would avoid again.

Amazing brunch spot, coffee and food were to die for, a must visit! Staff were very friendly and accommodating and knew the menu inside out. They didn't have any croissants when we ordered but advised they were baking some and let us know when they were ready, and they were 100% worth the wait!

Went for brunch and WOW, best I've had in a LONG time. The coffee was amazing and the breakfasts were SO tasty. My usual brekky is an eggs Benedict if eating out and although I was tempted by a big breakfast I went with the pork belly Benedict and it was gorgeous!! Also happy I had some room because we had caramel cruffins and they were to die for. Highly recommend if you're round the Newborough forest area, or anywhere else in Anglesey actually! The service and atmosphere was just as impeccable as the food. A real gem of a place 💎

A truly great find. Fresh local produce from their farm, local seafood, oysters from an oyster farm nearby, really lovely service. You’ll pay a bit more for this meal but it’s worth it for the amazing flavours you won’t get anywhere else. I’d say one of the best meals I’ve had out in years.

This is one of the best full breakfasts I've had in ages. You could just tell that the produce used was of really high quality. Good coffee and juice, and my mate's rhubarb juice that he ordered was a taste sensation. Friendly staff, nice decor, and we were even admiring the knives and forks. Not the cheapest you'll find, but I'd say it's worth it. It's also nestled a short drive away from one of the most stunning beaches you'll likely see anywhere.
