Brugelette in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Brugelette, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Brugelette is best known as the home of Pairi Daiza, one of Belgium’s most famous animal parks, where landscaped gardens and themed worlds showcase wildlife from around the globe. The village itself offers a quiet, rural setting in Hainaut Province, surrounded by farmland and small woodlands. Visitors can also see remnants of the historic Cambron Abbey on the Pairi Daiza grounds, adding a cultural and architectural dimension to a primarily nature-focused visit.
With favorites like Izba, Le Temple Des Délices, and Pairi Daiza, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Le Temple Des Délices and Izba so you can get the best taste of Brugelette while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Pairi Daiza is a zoo and botanical garden situated in Brugelette, Belgium, on the grounds of a former Cistercian Abbey. Spanning 65 hectares, it is home to over 7,000 animals from around the world, including rare and endangered species like lions, pandas, koalas, gorillas, and lemurs.
I love that this isn't just a bunch of animal exhibits, but a full story of the various parts of our world. You definitely enjoy seeing the decor as much as you do the animals. In terms of decor, Middle Kingdom and Kingdom of Ganesha were my favourites, with Last Frontier following closely. Animal highlights were the snow leopard, the giant pandas (that I doubled back to see later in the day), the lemurs jumping around above the visitors, the lion and lioness bumping heads in affection. I like being able to be close to animals, like the deer in Last Frontier, the birds in the aviary, and the peacock (peahen?) with the chicks. My least favourite part was definitely Land of the Cold. It was very crowded, and since it was already very hot when I got to it, not too many animals were interested in being seen. Can't blame them, though. I also wasn't a fan of the aquarium. I appreciate the vibe (first the cave, and later the submarine-feel), but it was a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the zoo. A wonderfully done part of the zoo and an unexpected favourite were Lands of the Past. I have never been as scared in my life as I was when I saw those mammoths moving! (While writing this, I realized I missed the entire ship-load of snakes, spiders, and lizards! Oh no!)

Pairi Daiza is, without a doubt, my absolute favourite animal park. I visit several times a year, and every visit is pure joy. This park is truly exceptional and never stops improving and expanding. The settings and landscapes are simply breathtaking, making it a real pleasure to spend an entire day here. The park evolves with the seasons and transforms beautifully for special events such as Easter, Christmas, Carnival, Halloween, and during summer weekends, when unique evening openings until 11 PM create a magical atmosphere. Pairi Daiza is the perfect place for a family day out or a relaxing walk surrounded by nature and incredible animals. I highly recommend visiting, you won’t regret it. Moreover, the work carried out by the Pairi Daiza Foundation is meaningful and impactful, contributing greatly to animal welfare and conservation worldwide. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to support their efforts. Pairi Daiza truly deserves its title as the most beautiful park in Europe. It is always a pleasure to spend time there, no matter the season or occasion.
Matt S — Google review
The best, most beautiful and well organised zoo (despite the thousends of visitors and parking cars) I have ever visited in Europe (and I say that after Vienna, Zürich, Paris). It is not just a zoo, it is also a garden heaven, with many tematics and attractions, shows (especially at Halloween, they are open until 10 p.m.). It is very enjoyable for adults and of course for children, as well. If you have a lot of money you can also sleep here in different kinds of apartments, they are all awesome, too. The app is very helpful, you can use it like a GPS, you can also see which restaurants, kiosks are open or closed. It would be more useful, if you can see where were you already, not to skip a place. Every toilets and restaurants are also a great and different experience. I would like to come back at winter, Christmas time, as well. All the view and photos you see on the website is in real life exactly the same. Just perfect. Thank you, Piari Daiza. ❤️
Andrea N — Google review
Amazing wildlife parc with huge setups. Many big zones that are divided in different continents. You can cover this in a full day. We arrived at 11 am and left 7 pm. But you take your time you need more than a day to fully enjoy. Fantastic day and can’t wait to visit again
Dennis H — Google review
A nice, big zoo that gives off a bit of a Tomorrowland and fairytale vibe. My recommendation: come earlier, because it’s super big! Try to visit in summer, spring, or early autumn. We didn’t even see half of the animals because many were hiding or sleeping due to the weather. But overall, it’s a really good place — definitely recommend!
Ivanna D — Google review
We really enjoyed it here. The park was huge and we didn't get time to see everything in one day; but we picked the animals we wanted to see the most. My kids loved the Monkey Bridge (5 & 8).
Marc C — Google review
Absolutely magical – more than just a zoo! Pairi Daiza is hands down one of the most beautiful and unique places I’ve ever visited. It’s not just a zoo — it’s a journey around the world. Every part of the park is beautifully themed and designed, from the Asian temples to the African plains and the peaceful gardens. You feel like you're travelling the world in one day. The animals are clearly well cared for, and their enclosures are spacious and thoughtfully made to resemble their natural habitats. Seeing the pandas, elephants, tigers, and so many other species up close was just incredible. The attention to detail in every corner is impressive — you can tell the people who built this place truly love what they do. The park is very clean, well-maintained, and easy to walk through, with plenty of spots to rest, take pictures, and grab something to eat. It’s perfect for families, couples, or even a solo trip. I left Pairi Daiza with a full heart and a phone full of amazing memories. Truly one of Belgium’s hidden gems — I’ll definitely be coming back! ❤️🐼✨
Ruben Q — Google review
An absolute must-visit! A beautiful zoo with genuine care for animal welfare. I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this park. The animals live in beautiful, spacious, and well maintained enclosures and all look healthy and well cared for. What really stood out to me is the transparency and the attention to detail. Whenever an animal has a minor issue or a visible condition, there are clear signs explaining the reason. For example, one animal was limping slightly, and the sign explained that this was due to arthritis as the animal had reached an advanced age. This is such a thoughtful initiative and shows that the animals are truly cared for. I know that some people are against zoos, but without places like Pairi Daiza, which work incredibly hard with breeding programs, care, donations, and conservation efforts. The situation for many endangered species would be far worse. This zoo makes a valuable contribution to the protection and preservation of animals, and that deserves recognition. I truly enjoyed this visit, both because of the animals and the way everything is organized. Without a doubt, this is a place I will happily return to. Highly recommended!

Ate lunch here 2 times while at the parks. The pizzas are delicious. The price is a little high but the pizza amount is enough for 2 adults and a child
Lauren G — Google review
Standard brasserie in the middle of the park. Burgers, own brewed beers, typical belgian dishes.
Philippe L — Google review
The jamboneau was not well cooked, we had to switch dishes and eventually we picked something else. But overall it was ok.
Inês P — Google review
Disaster. One star just because of service, otherwise 0. Food was very bad.
Romeo J — Google review
26€ for a burger of very poor quality (inferior to any fast food company).
Thomas — Google review
Waited 25 minutes for two hot drinks. Bad organisation.
David P — Google review
I was used to better quality here. This time, that was under average. The ribs were not enough cooked, the BBQ sauce watery. I hope for them they will do better on the future whatever the number of the tables they serve. That being said, the service is fast and friendly.

Asian restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Brugelette, "Le Temple des Délices" is a culinary gem that beckons food lovers with its delightful offerings. This restaurant specializes in Chinese and Asian cuisine, catering to a variety of palates, including vegetarian options. Located near the picturesque Domaine de Cambron and Pairi Daiza, it provides an inviting atmosphere for diners looking to indulge in flavorful dishes.
Really enjoyed the buffet here. It costed 38 euros per adult (drinks not included), but in return, I enjoyed a great variety of delicious dishes which were constantly refilled by the friendly staff. Would definitely consider eating here again next time I come to Pairi Daiza.
Steven — Google review
Nice ambience and many variety of dishes ( soup, salad, momos, main dish, dessert, fruits). If you are not foodie, this buffet is heavy and pricey. Staff's were friendly.
Mani K — Google review
Food quality not as we expected...So sad for this expensive choice!!!
Virgos_view — Google review
Typical zoo restaurant serving overpriced food. The food is better than average though as we have had some horrible zoo food over the years. Self service for the most part. Great location and room design with a beautiful Japanese garden at the entrance.
Heart — Google review
Mediocre food at a slightly elevated price but the staff was friendly and attentive. Pretty much what to would expect within a theme park/zoo. During covid 19 there is no buffet and one has to order off the menu.
Oliver — Google review
I loved the food from the Chinese buffet, very tasty. However we paid above 100€ for 3 people and I think it's way too expensive.
David V — Google review
Calm atmosphere, waiters are mostly friendly, loads of choice in food, all you can eat and fully equipped for children of all ages. Even possibility to change diapers in women's restrooms. Not in the men's though.

Nestled in the charming town of Brugelette, The Izba stands out as a delightful spot for those seeking a quick bite. This eatery offers a unique blend of French and Belgian cuisine, making it an ideal choice for food enthusiasts exploring the area. With its cozy atmosphere and diverse menu options, The Izba is perfect for anyone looking to indulge their taste buds while enjoying the local culture.
Food is good, and it's the only place worth having dinner in if you are super hungry. The price (42€ per person) is too much for what it is. It's probably the best option to bring your own food or eat at the fast food canteen at the start of the park near children area. Still if you decide you're willing to pay for the food, this is the best spot in the entire park, so highly recommend it.
Darija _ — Google review
All-you-can-eat restaurant with unlimited drinks. Great meat dishes, good deserts and salad. Wine and beer don't have high quality, as expected in a buffet restaurant.
Aras — Google review
The food is okay but definitely not worth the price. It's one of the only restaurants in Pairi Daiza where the atlosphere is more calm and quiet (which is a good point). The service was excellent.
Maude R — Google review
The restaurant is amazing! Amazingly well decorated. However, as a buffet is a nightmare. Too short in options, low quality on the food and the refilling almost doesn’t exist. So you have to wait 10/15 minutes which is unbearable for the price you pay - i.e 42 EUR per person. Also too short in desserts options/quality. It’s a clear tourist trap. I will not return. Once is more than enough. Cheers
Victor G — Google review
Good selection of food for the dinner buffet! Besides water, drinks are ordered and paid separately though
B Y — Google review
Really nice buffet that caters for a wide range of people. Children will find well cooked and tasty favourites. Adults will find a solid selection of dishes. Vegetarian are limited but won't go home hungry but expect to have a fairly carb heavy plate. For Vegan guest the labeling of the foods could be greatly improved.
John W — Google review
We came here a couple of times for the buffet. The kids as well as the adults enjoyed the food. Several dishes to choose from and catered to everyone’s palettes. We have to say that the desserts are probably our favorite part! So many to choose from and those macarons are so so good! The minus star would be the unclean plates. I don’t know how many times I had to choose other plates from the clean plate stack because there was food pieces stuck on them.
Lori A — Google review
It was very nice food is 3-star michelin quality and my partner had no problems with her allergies because they were very accomodating! Experience around New year's Eve is amazing with live music and complementary cava ❤️

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Attre Castle, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Chievres PX (Post Exchange). All together, your day would be filled with about 2 hours of non-stop fun.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
The magnificent Attre Castle is surrounded by a picturesque garden, creating a stunning backdrop. However, visitors may be disappointed as photography inside the castle is prohibited without prior notification. It would be preferable if this rule was clearly stated on their website, brochure, or through signage within the castle. Despite this inconvenience, the limited number of rooms available for exploration are truly beautiful and rich in history. A guided tour is recommended to fully appreciate the significance of the manor's age and its fascinating story.
Nice place to have a walk in nature. You can visit the chateau and the gardens. There is also some ruins and a grota on the property.
Sanda A — Google review
It was hard to find an English-speaking guide, and the central office also doesn't speak English. We got the tickets for €17 adults, but they tried to charge full price for an 11-year-old kid. So we just took the tour. There are six rooms you can visit, and they are on the same floor. You can't go upstairs, you can't take pictures, and you can't discover the rest of the castle. They will hurry you to get out as soon as possible. Not worth it.
Adam S — Google review
Small chateau, only only see the first floor, but it is very interesting. The chateau has some very neat details inside and on the grounds. The tour guide speaks many different languages.
Rachel P — Google review
Private property. Open to the public on Sundays between 14h-18h during months April until October
Ward D — Google review
Beautiful castle and garden around. However, when I wanted to take some photos in the castle, the guide told me that it is not allowed. They need to mention it or in their website, or in the brochure of map that they give or some signs in the castle. Otherwise it feels not so pleasant to hear it. There are only few rooms to visit, however it is very beautiful and has a wonderful story and history. We had a tour with guide, and it is nice because without all explanation it can be too short visit.
Farida G — Google review
READ THIS: Don't listen to anyone who says this place is not worth visiting! I went to this place several times because it was so fantastic. It is NOT the chateau that is necessarily to be visited: I never went inside except to buy the tickets and get the map! I went all through the GROUNDS of the castle. AMAZING land! There are the ruins of an 1100 year old Norman fort with a story of the "mad monk" who used to murder travelers passing through. There is the "Pillory" where serfs used to be beaten. There is a small port there that shows the water levels used to be HIGH in that area (think about that...) and BEST of all: there is a hunting lodge built atop a huge pile of boulders that is man-made(!) that is amazing to see. You have to understand the place's history and its abundance to fully realize what you're looking at! Amazing place, especially to explore the woods/grounds and even bring a picnic basket...just a beautiful day out!
Jeff P — Google review
Very nice gardens with nice history, but could use some more maintenance (e.g. better paths) and informational signs, especially because of the entry is not free. All information, including the free audio guide, is unfortunately only in French. Parking is free. Entry fee is €4.50 for adults, and can only be paid cash. Only open on weekends in the summer.
Stijn — Google review
Bad option trying to visit this castle. Very poorly maintained. No gardens at all. The photos here in Google are misleading. The lady tried to sell us tickets to see nothing else you can see from the street (a falling down building) , because the place is actually closed. There's no signs at all explaining how visiting works.

A little piece of America in Belgium. Get all the American food products and other stuff here, you do have to come with an employee of the us government, otherwise you can't get in.
FV — Google review
Very very small PX with minimal stock. Lots of the walls and shelves are extremely bare. The toy section was especially lacking. There were ample alcohol choices and plenty of laundry basics though. The unit patches needed for SHAPE have been out of stock for months. Limited sizes on all clothing and shoes. 3 places to choose from at the food court. Hunts Bro Pizza takes American Dollars and the 2 others (Bun Burger & Bun-D) take Euros.
Stephanie G — Google review
The smallest PX I've personally seen. Lots of the less popular merchandise is literally dusty and many of the watches have dead batteries. The staff is normally pretty helpful, though. And it is within walking distance of the barracks.
James L — Google review
Largest Exchange in the area but still fairly small. You have to watch prices verse those on the economy. Small selections for camping, automotive, toys, tools...mostly what you'd expect. Not all appliances are 220V so be careful. They do have large 5 gallon water coolers and refills if you are trying not to buy lots of bottles.
Mike — Google review
Everything you could need, for the American armed forces community. We went every 6 or 8 weeks to stock up on our favorite products not available on the Belgian market. Pretty fair liquor selection as well. Order an air conditioner ahead of time as they go fast. When checking out, DO NOT get in the line with the old guy... Super slow and always some problem that he has to check on
Keith G — Google review
Small store, they do have a lot to offer considering location etc... The best AAFES staff that I've met in my 30 years of service and now as a Civilian
Timothy O — Google review
It's a really nice PX, it's not the biggest which is okay. The PX I have is super small and doesn't have lot of things to offer so coming to this PX is always a great thing because I can pick things up that I can't get at my PX

Le Vieux Chaudron is a charming spot that evokes nostalgia for many who have visited over the years. Although it has undergone some changes in ownership and menu, the essence of traditional, high-quality food remains intact. The cozy atmosphere is complemented by friendly and efficient staff who ensure quick service. While enjoying your meal on the outdoor terrace, you might find the music a bit loud at times, which can disrupt the serene vibe of the surroundings.
A must try! This was highly recommended by our neighbor. She and her husband come here for most of their special occasions. My husband and I went for our birthday. My my! We were so impressed. Our server Mathias was amazing. He recommended their seasonal cocktail and it was delicious! We also met Pierre, one of the owners. He too was very personable. My husband had the filet and it melted in our mouths. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly! Long story short, JUST GO!

Had a tremendous time here tonight with my friend as the waiter was very attentive and friendly. Asked questions about us being foreign but also about how we’re enjoying our time here and what kind of beer/food interests we had to figure out what we’d like to eat. Really helped a lot and the food and beers were great.
K. W — Google review
Loved the outside area, it was rlly nice. Also the fact that they refill the fries is great! Not giving more than 4 stars food tho because there was just one vegetarian option (which was scrumptious), would’ve liked at least 2 options.

We went back to a place we so often went to as kids... Nearly 15years later it appeared: owners changed, and so did the menu and the vibe. Different atmosphere there now yet still a place i would recommend for traditional good/qualitative food and a cosy setting. Staff is friendly and efficient : fast ordering and fast receiving. The only minor is that the music on the outside terras was too loud, disturbing the calm atmosphere of the surroundings. (Not sure about the vegetarian options but the 'Americain nature' was good, and so were the home-cut fries...)
