Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is a renowned local pizzeria chain that has been serving coal-fired pies, beer, and wine since 1925. Despite its expansion to over a dozen locations along the eastern seaboard, the original New Haven spot continues to draw crowds eager to taste where it all began. The pizzeria's claim to fame lies in introducing the white clam pizza, showcasing immigrant ingenuity.
It was a little loud but definitely had the feeling of little Italy. It didn't disjointed at all. The tomatoes from Italy were a magical touch to the pizza we had and the crispy crust was exactly what I'd been missing all my life. The open kitchen with the brick pizza oven sealed the deal for me. Thank you for a wonderful lunch from your wayward Florida friend.

One of the top pizza spots in New Haven. They have been around for over 100 years and are known for their quality pizzas. Due to its popularity there can be quite a wait with a line outside. However, it is well worth it. We did not have to wait long and were seated in a booth. They have a decent variety of pizzas but my favorite was their Margherita. They have a good selection of alcoholic drinks including desserts. The pizza was well worth it and Pepes definitely lives up to its reputation.

This was my first stop on my little pizza tour I did this past weekend. I went to the main restaurant to get a table and the nice hostess instructed me to go to the location a little past the parking lot. I didn't have a long wait time to be seated which was great. Jeanne was my server and she was friendly and attentive. Now the pizza... Being from New York and a follower of Dave Portnoy I have high expectations. I had a bit of a wait time to get my small meatball and ricotta pie and when it came out it was piping hot. Word to the wise to first time patrons....let the pizza cool down a bit before digging in otherwise you will burn the roof of you mouth like I did. I like my pizza cooked, but the crust was a bit too well done for my taste. Some spots were hard and very crunchy. Otherwise the rest of the pie was rather good and I would rate them an 8.5 out of 10. They have a good menu with decent prices, plus they serve alcohol. The establishment is clean and they have a good size parking lot which is a plus for those that struggle to find street parking. In closing, I am glad I tried this place for my first New Haven pizza experience and I would come here again in the future.

We had a clam and a fresh tomato pie. The crust is perfect: thin and crunchy and holds. It’s not about cheese… it’s the tomato sauce - heaven. We allowed bacon on clams, and it was fine, but don’t recommend. We ate our minds out and needed boxes. But the logistics - when you show up the line looks 1.5 hours long. It moves in less than 30 min. Service is fantastic.
Tania S — Google review
The og apizza, this place gets very very busy. There is almost always a line and your whole group will need to be there to be seated. This is the gold standard for new haven style pizza. It is worth check out if you are in the area. We ordered the vegetable pizza and pepperoni pizza. Both were delicious.
Paul Y — Google review
Everyone recommends Pepe and for very good reason - it’s a standout with the crispy crust and fresh tasting tomatoe sauce with fresh pecorino cheese. Man, oh man, this pizza 🍕 sings and dances in this 100+ old New Haven pizzeria. This spot is beyond worthy of all the accolades. Highly, highly recommend and others may copy this place but wow just wow is it fantastic and exceeds the hype. Deborah, our server, so friendly and helpful, made our experience even better with her suggestion of extra pecorino and her big smile with check ins to see how we were liking it or needed anything. Can’t say enough nice things so swing by or better yet, make a special trip and try it out for yourself. The giant pizza oven and the super long pizza paddles were fun to watch them cooking. Good luck with the next 100 years in business.

Rating: 8.1/10 I tried Frank Pepe on the same day as Modern and Sally’s to compare them fairly. The pizza has a thin crust with a good amount of sauce, which I enjoyed. It’s a solid pizza, but it wasn’t the best of the day for me. I am a bit surprised it ranks so high worldwide, but it’s definitely good quality and worth trying if you like thin, saucy pizza.
Dielenetxy M — Google review
First time visiting Frank Pepe’s, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The wait time was only about 10 minutes, which was quick considering how popular the place is. Our host, Genie, was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. She also walked me through their rewards app and explained that first-time users get a $10 discount—definitely a nice bonus. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a margherita pizza. Both were thin-crust and perfectly crispy, with amazing flavor that really showcased the quality of their ingredients. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service was smooth and efficient. Another big plus is the ample parking, which makes visiting hassle-free. Overall, Frank Pepe’s is a must-visit if you love classic, flavorful pizza. I’ll definitely be returning to try more of their menu!

Pizza restaurant
Sally's Apizza is an iconic pizzeria in New Haven, serving coal-fired, thin-crust pies that have attracted long lines of customers since 1938. The name "Apizza" reflects the Naples dialect of early Italian immigrants in New Haven. This family-owned restaurant has a strong emotional appeal and is known for its balanced sauce and less-charred crust.
Like many a tourist, I had Sally's Apizza on my list because of Dave Portnoy. I was blown away when I turned the corner to a line at the end of the block. The anticipation could not be higher! We ordered two large Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce Pies, a small Bacon, Apple, Sage pie, a Caesar Salad, and a Gassosa to drink. The mozzarella and tomato pie is king for a reason. A sweet and fresh tomato sauce on a light, coal-fired crust does all the heavy lifting. The bacon and apple was unique, but I don't love white cheese pizzas and the apple is too nuanced for me. The Caesar salad was incredible, and I pinched myself to ensure it wasn't my taste buds boosting flavors because of the wait. The dressing isn't too strong, and coats each leaf of fresh lettuce perfectly while dashed with just the right amount of croutons. And the gassosa complemented the pizza as I hoped it would, so I'm a big fan of the "Italian Sprite." The amount of food was perfect for a party of five. Angel was a great server. He under-promised and over-delivered. When we were seated, he let us know pies would take an hour. He brought our salad and drinks out quickly, and we were pleasantly surprised when food was out in about 30-40 minutes. He was quick on refills, and checked on us regularly. I enjoyed how even though there's a lot of anticipation from patrons to get into the restaurant, and then once in receive food quickly, the staff keep the anxiety down and manage the time. They set the tone, and it makes for a great dining experience. Great service all around. The atmosphere is everything I could hope for. A seasoned pizzeria part of the soul of a city, with fans old and new who wait for hours to get a table and share a pie. In total, I waited in line for 90 minutes, then 40 to get the pizza. It was absolutely worth the wait. Would I do it again? I'd honestly probably plan ahead and do takeout, but for my first time, I'd wait again. It was a legendary experience and well worth the memories. One Bite: 8.7/10

I expected the line outside. What I didn’t expect was an hour wait once we ordered one pizza. Was it delicious? Yes. I wish the crust wasn’t so burnt though. The waitress never came and checked on us to let us know there was an hour before we’d eat. Never filled our water until we flagged her down. Still glad I ate here, but prepare to wait. EDIT-Thank you for letting me know about the New Haven char. I had no idea. If that’s how it’s done than the pizza was perfect!

Delicious Pizza! We arrived 30 minutes before opening and we were 5th in line. There is normally a line as it’s very popular. The pizza was a true classic in amazing flavor. Portions were large and the price wasn’t bad especially considering how delicious the pizza tasted. Next time definitely getting it to go so a side by side can happen with their biggest competitor. Overall if you love pizza this is a must visit location as they are definitely in the top pizza places in the world.

Great pizzas and quick friendly service. Definitely recommend adding fresh garlic and basil to any pizza you get. We ordered many different ones but liked the stinger the most. I’ve tried other apizzas so felt like the crust could be thinner, but still good!
Humpreet S — Google review
Five stars, period. Best pizza of my life, period. I had a large pizza with half pepperoni. Had to keep it classic for my first visit. I did not go inside as I just getting some takeaway. The atmosphere was awesome, even on the street with everyone in line and music playing. Absolutely worth the wait. I live in Detroit and I would fly back just to go to Sally's.
Paul S — Google review
I got the burrata pizza. It looks divine and i cannot believe im saying this but it could’ve used a little more flavor. I added every single seasoning in my cabinet to every slice i ate. I did eat a good amount of it on my own and it was delicious even then. Much to my surprise the thin crush did hold everything up pretty well. Didn’t get too flimsy. I would get this again.

Visited 30 pizzerias in 9 days in New Haven, Philly and New York. All the way from the UK. Sally’s was my first stop in New Haven. Arrived around 11:30. Service was fine. He let us try some of the sodas before settling on the cream soda so a slight plus there. Although the guy had a script he was doing with every table and it did not feel personable in any way at all to us. “Are you guys ready for the best pizza of your life?!” Was what he said to every table. Which you could hear every few minutes. I was really was ready for the best pizza of my life but what we got was genuinely the worst pizza of the 30 I visited on my 9 day trip. Very disappointed in this experience as I’ve been excited for years to visit Sally’s. The photo’s will show you the pizzas we were served. I spoke to others in new haven that day that feel the same and met another person who went at 19:30 the same day was served a similarly under baked pie. If the owners are happy with this output then that’s a real shame.
Michael S — Google review
Drove 3 hours from NH to try their pizza. Ordered from the takeout window at 10:30am. Was told it would be ready at 11:30. 11:30 came and both my pies were ready. Barely Luke warm! I expected these to be piping hot. So disappointing. Would recommend texting your customers when their pies are ready instead of letting them sit. For the amount of money I paid was not impressed. Maybe it would have been better in the dine in.

New Haven Green, a 16-acre park at the heart of downtown New Haven, was originally part of the Puritan settlement and continues to be a vibrant hub for events and festivals. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls, picnics, or simply relax amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. **I often take my dogs for long walks in our Central Park, and every time I’m reminded of how special this place is. The park is surrounded by stunning architecture — elegant historic buildings, charming facades, and unique details that make the whole area feel both timeless and full of character. It’s a favorite spot not only for locals but also for tourists from all over the world, and you can always feel the lively atmosphere of people exploring, photographing, and enjoying the beauty around them. The park itself is peaceful and spacious, with plenty of paths, benches, and scenic corners to relax, unwind, or simply watch the day go by. I highly recommend stopping by — it’s one of those places that truly captures the heart of the city.**

New Haven Green is a 16 acre green space located in downtown New Haven. Surrounding it is the hustle and bustle of the city. There are beautiful historic architecture everywhere you look when you're standing in the Green. It was built in 1638 and is the location for many events and festivals, in the past and present. There are three historic churches located there. Also, it is one of the oldest town green in the U.S. It was even used as a cemetery back in the day and the bodies are still buried there, but the headstones were removed. My family and I enjoyed walking through. There were many benches and there were plenty of walkways throughout. Also, they now have wifi if anyone wants to work remotely from here or have a picnic. I'm a fan of historic places and this place definitely has a rich history.

Downtown New Haven Green is absolutely gorgeous—a beautiful spot for a Sunday stroll, a peaceful sit, or simply soaking in that charming New England vibe. Just a note: you may encounter some houseless individuals, some of whom may be dealing with mental health challenges. They’re generally harmless, but it’s always good to stay aware and be respectful of the shared space.
Jamil M — Google review
The New Haven Green at DWNTWN New Haven is really cool. Lots of green and friendly to all New Havenites. Take a seat on one of the benches or just plop down in the middle of the Green and enjoy the sounds of the water fountain. Sometimes there are concerts and such. If this doesn't work for you then take BUS 261 to the Milford Mall or the BUS 212U to Target / Best Buy / Dick's & BJs (always a lot of fun if you have a couple dollars to spare)
Fred S — Google review
The grounds are well kept and dog friendly. But, new haven ignores the homeless and this is a refuge for some of them. It's a pretty scary place after dark because of the bus traffic and homeless just trying to find a place to sleep. They don't have any public restrooms besides the library so be warned it smells like a toilet.

BAR is a popular and lively establishment in a town known for its traditional pizza joints. The bar and dance club feature indie rock shows in an industrial-chic setting with cozy nooks. Known for its famous mashed potato and thick-cut bacon pizza, BAR offers a unique twist on traditional pizzas, including the red pie with mozzarella and meatballs. Additionally, the venue brews its own beers, adding to its appeal as a local favorite.
Today, the Slice Mob rolled into New Haven in the Slice Mob Mobile, hungry and ready to tackle some legendary New Haven–style pizza. This month’s meetup brought us to BAR Pizza on Crown Street. Cool spot. Long communal tables flanked by towering fermentation tanks, not for their dough, but for their beer. But I digress. Inside, it’s got an easygoing, open vibe. No wait, plenty of space, and enough table real estate to handle the sprawl of pizzas this crew is famous for ordering. Some of today’s hits (that I didn’t personally try) included the Margherita, Elote, Lobster Roll, and Smoked Brisket pies , all earning rave reviews from the table. Me? I stayed true to form with a Red Pie and the Portrait of New Haven. Both came on BAR’s signature cracker-thin crust, flavorful, sturdy, and perfectly charred, holding the toppings like it was born to do so. The sauce was balanced and fresh, lightly seasoned, and topped with a light snowfall of grated Parmigiano. The Portrait of New Haven used the same crust-and-sauce base, then leveled up with locally sourced Lamberti sausage (the kind that makes you remember what sausage should taste like), roasted red peppers, house-made sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella. The result? A perfect symphony of sweet, creamy, and umami-rich flavors, with smoky undertones from that charred crust. This was my showstopper, had my name written all over it. BAR is an excellent downtown hangout, feels like a weekend staple waiting to happen. Cool atmosphere, top-notch pies, and absolutely Slice Mob Approved.

It's a bar with a small pizza menu. The pizza is thin crust and there's four options from what I saw on the menu, and it's all delicious. A friend and I split a large which was a bit too much but somehow we finished it all. The service was good, they didn't come and check on us which was in the end of the world. But we sort of expect that sometimes for drink refills and such. It looks like a pretty happen place with a good bar and lots of space to eat and hang out including outside seating. Which probably wouldn't be for me with the busy road outside. But if you heard the pizza is good here, I would have to agree and I would encourage you to check it out. Probably not a good spot for kids, but for everybody else it's great.

BAR was incredible. Not as old as the other New Haven pizza spots, but definitely worth trying a pie. Some of the thinnest pizza I have ever had. Their Lobster Roll and Mashed Potato and Bacon are great non-traditional offerings at this bar that also serves as a nightclub at night. Definitely recommend to anyone on New Haven Pizza tour.

Visited New Haven and was told that BAR had really great pizza -- specifically the mashed potato pizza. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but it turns out that I LOVED it. So good! This place is great to grab some pizza with a group. There were lots of great options on the menu.

This was our 1st time at Bar. They had a 30 minute wait but the hostess suggested we sit at the bar and order pizza if we wanted. Great idea! We started with the tomato pie which was perfect. Their sauce is delicious 😋. Hubby had a key lime sour beer and really enjoyed it. We finished the tomato pie and ordered "a taste of New Haven" pie. OMG, in house made sausage, roasted red peppers, dough, sauce, ricotta....so yummy. We boxed up what was left to go , got 2 crawlers of the key lime beer to go and said our good bye 😀

first time trying new haven style pizza as a jersey native. pizza was good. waitress with curly hair was nice and even helped when they sent out the wrong pie. young girl as the hostess tonight 10/23 5pm not so much. when i asked if we could do a table for 2 she immediately asked if my partner and i could be out of there by 7pm. weird question but sure no problem we just wanted a quick bite to eat anyways. i thought maybe they’re doing an event or something. she didn’t ask the group behind us that same question which was weird too but i realized my partner and i were the only non white people in there. we left at 6pm sharp so we didn’t go over the time limit set by the front hostess. as we left she said goodnight to a group walking a few feet in front of us but looked at my partner and i and didn’t say anything. i love trying new places to eat all over nyc/nj/boston and unfortunately this place is the first time i’ve ever had a bad taste left in my mouth. the pizza was good and our waitress with curly hair was super sweet but i probably wont be back because of the hostess.

Super thin crust pizzas. We tried the famous/notorious mashed potato + bacon pizza. It was really yummy and scrumptious. (Should have ordered a small pie for two people; the medium is huge.) We also recommend the beers they make! The space itself is really cool. It’s divided into several rooms.

Hamburger restaurant
American restaurant
Family restaurant
Louis' Lunch is a small, historic lunch spot in New Haven that proudly claims to have invented the hamburger. Established in 1895, it still serves the iconic sandwich on toast with only cheese, tomato, and onion as garnish. The current owner, Jeff Lassen, is the great-grandson of the founder and continues to follow the original recipe. The restaurant's interior has a traditional feel and features original cast-iron grills from 1898.
Louis’ lunch some of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life. I feel like the employee should be annoyed at all the videos and pictures people take but they are super friendly. They make great quality food. The atmosphere is awesome because it feels like you just walked into 1922. There is a bathroom and if the place is packed seating could be a little tight. There is public parking on the street out front or side streets nearby and the prices are pretty decent. Everyone who visits New England must visit this place remember not to ask them for ketchup.
Abner B — Google review
Stopped by Louis’ Lunch to finally try what’s often called “the birthplace of the hamburger.” Atmosphere was definitely cool — it’s got those old-school, nostalgic vibes that make you feel like you’re stepping back in time. You can tell there’s history here, and that part was fun to take in. That said… the burger itself? Just okay. It’s cooked in the original cast iron grills, served on white toast with onion and tomato — no ketchup or condiments allowed. I get the tradition, but taste-wise, it didn’t really blow me away. Pretty mid, to be honest. The potato salad was actually the standout — super creamy, well-seasoned, and felt like it was made fresh. Service wasn’t fast, and the space is tiny, so there’s not a ton of room to hang if it gets busy. Price was decent — not overpriced, especially given the legacy — but this is more of a check-it-off-the-list kind of spot than somewhere I’d rush back to. Glad I tried it, but overall, it’s more about the nostalgia than the food.

Honestly I would give a million stars for this place! It's the best burger spot in the country hands down! There's no comparison. I live in NJ and drive up to Connecticut just for the burgers.. it's that good! Great atmosphere everyone is nice and welcoming. Highly recommend trying it out! The burgers are delicious and made to perfection. Cheese Burger with tomato and onion is a must! You won't be disappointed, enjoy!

Pretty good burger reminiscent of my burgers I had growing up. Very basic flavor profile. I'd say didn't live up to the hype, but you gotta have one anyone! Your mileage may vary. Tight seating inside and tons of beverages to choose from. The stand out was the delicious potato salad!

A true piece of American history! Louis’ Lunch is unlike any burger place I’ve been to. The atmosphere is charming and nostalgic, and you can really feel the legacy behind every detail. The burgers are simple, cooked on antique vertical broilers, and packed with old-school flavor. No ketchup, no frills—just quality beef, toast, and tradition. If you’re a fan of food history or just want a unique experience, this is a must-visit in New Haven. The staff is friendly and the vibe is authentic. Highly recommend!

I will preface this review by saying that this establishment is a local legacy and a historical monument. It was established in 1895 and has been family run since then with its claim to fame being that it is the birthplace of the Hamburger. Local people love it. Now these burgers are no frills, just meat. None of that fancy shit your gunna get in some of the new gastropubs or chain burger joints. They pride themselves in serving a classic hamburger that is made with a proprietary blend of five cuts of meat, ground fresh daily. It is served on white toast with cheese and only offer onion and tomato as garnishes. I had a chance to watch the cook make our burgers and he put it in the grill/meat cooker and the only seasoning that he used was salt and pepper. Now if you like the taste of ground beef then you'll love these burgers. They were well made and tasted like a nice juicy piece of ground beef but that was it. So would I waste an hour for these burgers, no I wouldn't. Now if your around Yale and have other things to do then you may wanna stop in and place an order to go and walk around for a while then come back for your order. It's worth a taste but in my opinion over hyped for the amount of time you have to wait.
Verenisse C — Google review
You come here, you let them do it their way. They’ve been doing it for over 100 years so there is nothing to do but trust that the burger is going to blow your mind with its simplicity but also how delicious it is. The staff loves to make quick and witty jokes. Just go in with respect to an establishment who does it their own way and ONLY their way. If you can do that you’ll have an unforgettable memory and you’ll be able to join a club of many people before you.

This place is small and cozy. The menu is simple with a hamburger using sandwich bread and your add on options. Potato salad is a must to try. Don't ask for ketchup, trust me you won't need condiments. The hamburger is flavorful and made to perfection.

Aladdin’s crown pizza is One of my favorites places to go to for a Mediterranean food or pizza! Love this place best Mediterranean food in New Haven CT! I always customize my pizza which is grilled chicken & fries. Overall experience 10/10.

This is amazing pizza! And all Halal! The pepperoni pizza is quite possibly the best slice of pepperoni that I’ve ever had. The stuffed pizzas are out of this world. I particularly enjoyed the meat pizza. I’ll be back in New Haven in a few weeks and I’m looking forward to trying the chicken swarma.

Shawarma tastes like bitter with old pickles and no flavor no taste just burnt meat with lot of cilantro and some sticky sugary tamarind sauce Not good nothing like shawarma really disappointed. Ordered one pizza they said it come with real beef sausage and meat it ended like no meat only with mushrooms, onion and cheese. It’s a total waste of money. Never recommend this place.

Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Consiglio's Restaurant is a historic Italian eatery in New Haven that has been serving authentic and exquisitely prepared Italian food for 75 years. The restaurant, founded by Italian immigrants, boasts an old-world setting and vibe, making it a popular choice for special celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries. With an elegant dining room that exudes coziness, Consiglio's is the perfect spot for a romantic date night.
Our family of four had a fantastic meal start to finish. We enjoyed the eggplant rollatini as an appetizer along with the freshly baked bread and balsamic olive oil dipping sauce. The side salads were refreshing. Each of us ordered a different pasta dish, and all of them were delicious! Our server was fine, but not exceptional. My only critique would be that the restaurant charges for every drink refill. We had sodas and iced tea, which ran us around $40.00. We are looking forward to dining outside when the weather turns a bit warmer.

This cozy, family-owned Italian restaurant instantly makes you feel at home. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the smell of garlic, fresh bread, and homemade sauce—it’s like stepping into someone’s kitchen in Italy. The staff treats you like family, checking in just enough without hovering. You can tell every dish is made with love—my pasta came out perfectly cooked, and the sauce tasted so fresh and rich. The garlic knots were warm and buttery, and the tiramisu was the perfect sweet ending. The atmosphere is calm and inviting—soft music, candlelight, and that classic Italian charm with checkered tablecloths and family photos on the wall. It’s the kind of place where you can come for date night, dinner with family, or even solo and still feel comfortable.

Came here with family and dog. Got seating outdoors in the patio area. Day before my race, a half marathon, so I wanted to carb-load before. So pasta was on the menu for us. We ordered Fried Calamari to start. Which was so-so. Then I ordered a seafood pasta (will update w name) with Caesar Salad on side. Food was very good and filling, not too heavy at all. Taste was very good. Authentic Italian. Plus I was feeling good afterwards, and had enough energy to complete the race. Overall, recommend this place as it has pretty solid Italian food.

⸻ I really liked Consiglio’s! it’s such a cozy and welcoming place. It was actually the first Italian restaurant I went to with my husband when we celebrated our 2-year wedding anniversary, so it holds a special memory for me. The atmosphere is lovely, and I’d definitely go back!

I was visiting from FL and I am so thankful that I ate dinner here while I was on my trip. We made a reservation before hand, so there was no wait. We also ate in the outside eating area that they had in the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. The waiter that we had was so accommodating and sweet. The food was so fresh and cooked to perfection everything is made in house, I ordered the penne a vodka and chicken and it was without a doubt the best I've ever had in my life and I ordered this a lot!! Love this place. Highly recommend. Hopefully I get to go back one day!! :)

When visiting New Haven and you’re craving Italian food, I recommend making your way to Consiglio’s. The food is delicious and the cocktails are top notch too. The eggplant rollatini and fried calamari are my favorite options for antipasti. The last time I went I had the Chicken Piccata for my entree (photo attached). I’ve always had a great experience here.
Jane C — Google review
Very nice Italian restaurant. I wouldn’t consider it “fine dining”. A traditional classic fettuccine Alfredo with a couple pieces of chicken is priced at $33. The same exact tasting pasta at Bellini’s is $18 without chicken. Both traditionally made. The prices are outrageous and unrealistic. The Lasagna was pretty good. For $27 I would expect it to be bigger in size and have more meat in it. I wouldn’t eat at this restaurant regularly that’s for sure.

Mamma mia!! What can I say?! We just learned that there’s a Little Italy in New Haven. We decided to try Consiglio’s based on the reviews. The food is absolutely delicious from the olive oil, the freshly baked bread and salads to the yummy lobster, shrimp, calamari and pastas, sauces all so fresh. The food reminded me of a cooking class we did in Rome, and cuisine from the Amalfi coast where the Consiglio family is originally from. The staff and ambience were also wonderful. If you are craving authentic Italian food, you must try this gem in New Haven. You’ll thank me later! :)

Spanish restaurant
Olea is a downtown Spanish/Mediterranean restaurant with a modern and elegant atmosphere. The cuisine, crafted by Chef Manuel Romero, offers a contemporary twist on Spanish favorites using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is known for its impeccable staff and clean, chic ambiance. Diners can enjoy Mediterranean fare including Spanish tapas and flavorful cocktails in this lovely establishment in downtown New Haven. While the portion sizes may not be large, the dishes are described as tasty and full of flavor.
Fabulous restaurant for dinner. The food is amazing (specially the octopus and cochinillo) and the service is great. The restaurant was a bit noisy at the beginning because there were some office groups but once they left, the space was very comfortable. Nice interior design as well. Olea is great for special occasions.

Solid place for an evening out or to have something tasty that’s a bit more refined in New Haven. I’ve been before for their tasting menu and a la carte menu and enjoy their dishes. We tried the tasting menu since I haven’t had this one. Generally very good. I have minor complaints but overall I recommend it. $270 for two with tip not including alcohol.

Very attentive service and hospitality (thNk you, Dan 🙏🏾), we sat at the bar for an early dinner after seeing a matinee play at the Yale Repertoire Theater (Spunk was excellent). We truly enjoyed our evening here and would recommend to friends. Pics of our sophisticated meals included. ☺️

This was an upscale experience for us. We went here with another couple for a nice meal. We ended up staying for a few hours multiple courses and dessert bottle of wine and cocktails. The service was consistently excellent. Cocktails were made by an experienced bar staff. They were clearly not messing around with your run if the mill bartenders. They had pros working behind the bar. The food was sooooo good. The dessert was a tasting of chocolates. Loved it all.

Olea exceeded all the expectations I had. We came to celebrate my graduation and enjoyed our time here. The food was great, flavorful, service good! I have no complaints.
Ulyana — Google review
Celebrating my friend's first wedding anniversary, we chose Olea for its promise of a delightful dining experience. Our visit on a Thursday evening at 7 PM was off to a fortuitous start with a parking spot directly in front of the establishment. Olea welcomed us with an ambiance that was both elegant and comfortable. Our party of four embarked on a culinary adventure, sharing an array of dishes including ceviche mixto, tartar de atun, the chef's daily fish selection, and cochinillo. The ceviche mixto was particularly to my liking, while my wife and her friend were impressed with both the fish selection and the cochinillo. Each dish affirmed Olea's commitment to excellent cuisine, with no single choice falling short of our expectations. The service paralleled the quality of our meal, characterized by attentive and insightful recommendations from our waiter, enhancing our experience. For those new to Olea, soliciting the staff's favorites is a practice I'd endorse. My rating for Olea stands at a well-deserved 5 out of 5. The restaurant has earned a return visit from me whenever I'm seeking a welcoming atmosphere and a meal that satisfies the senses.

Got a reservation for 2. I took some from Spain. We both really enjoyed the meal and it reminded him of home. We ordered the gazpacho, shishito peppers, the jamón ibérico, croquetas, cochinillo, and torrija. It was all good. Worth it for a one time experience.

Loved this upscale downtown New Haven restaurant. I booked a early dinner for my husband's birthday, and 5:30pm on a Friday was the earliest and only non-bar seat availability. So, I'd recommend definitely getting a reservation ahead of time. Additionally, the food and experience was phenomenal. We also had a daily menu mushroom soup (it was out of this world) and there was a complimentary birthday small desert they brought out for my husband. Overall, this was a thoughtful and amazing dinner experience I'd recommend to anyone.

Mexican restaurant
Chipotle Mexican Grill is a popular fast-food chain known for its customizable Mexican dishes like burritos, tacos, and bowls. Customers can personalize their orders with a variety of ingredients. While some patrons have noted occasional shortages of certain items and wait times for food preparation, the flavors of the grilled chicken and the combination of rice, lettuce, and sour cream are highlighted as enjoyable components.
Who doesn’t like a chipotle burrito bowl? Pretty normal chipotle, there was a lack of ingredients and I had to wait for the staff to make the chicken. The flavors of the chicken gave the bowl a nice meaty and grill like flavor. Rice is always nice for carbs and blends well with other flavors. Add lettuce for some crunch and sour cream for a refreshing taste/feeling. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was not amazing. Overall, it’s a chipotle.

Ordered my usual, asked for fajita veggies. The server said they don’t have them on Sundays. Chicken was low and I didn’t receive a full portion. Also there was strange connective tissue in my chicken. Chicken on the grill wasn’t even half way cooked yet. Garbage piled up overflowing the cans. Wasn’t told my total and didn’t get a receipt, did they stop providing those?
Jen N — Google review
Yesterday, I went to Chipotle to pick up some food for me and my friend. Here's my experience, in summary: 1. I stood for 76 minutes between when I placed our order and when I received our food. Some other customers waited for even longer than I did. 2. After I went home, I realized that the bag I was handed after 76 minutes did not contain our order; it was someone else's. 3. The other customer's order, as given to me, was seemingly incomplete. It consisted of two half-filled rice bowls with beans and sour cream (no meats, salsas, etc.) and some chips without any dip. 4. The restaurant was anarchic and astonishingly filthy. 5. I saw some practices and circumstances that, in my opinion, violated the FDA Food Code (see 4-903.11[A and C], 4-904.11[A and B], and 5-501.19[A, B, and C] in the 2022 version, for example).
Andrew B — Google review
It was a terrible experience. We went more than two hours before closing and the server was throwing the utensils around with anger while preparing our bowls. The rice and chicken were almost empty and they did not refill, so we got whatever was left at the bottom which is probably half the usual amount compared to other locations. We asked for fajita veggies and he just said ‘no’. Upon asking for an explanation, he said the batch being cooked was only for online orders. The cashier said ‘you should have looked before you ordered’. Would give zero stars if we could.

Walked in the lady serving the food ignored us at first then served us with an attitude. Ordered a salad bowl, they didn't have the regular salad that they use, gave me romaine lettuce and it had more butts then it did lettuce!! The rice was hard undercooked!! Completely unsatisfied! Definitely not going there again!

This is a good place to go when you are very hungry and want a quick, reliably filling meal. There are good vegetarian options; the black beans and pinto beans are both vegetarian, as are the "sofritos," which are made out of tofu. The quality of Chipotle seems to have gone down a bit over the years, and the food doesn't seem as fresh as it used to. Nonetheless, there are so many options for toppings here that you can usually make a bowl or burrito filled with things that seem appetizing to you. They recently instituted their queso dip, which I was very excited about. However, the queso dip is uremarkable and does not compare to real Austin style queso dip. They charge extra for pretty much everything you would want to put on your bowl (queso, guacamole, chips), which jacks up the final price when it is time to check out. They do give out free cups for water that you can fill with water or seltzer. Overall, this place gives large portions of filling food with lots of options. They have good vegetarian options and lots of flexibility if you desire a healthy meal or a fattening feast. Go here if you are super hungry and can't wait for anything else. Highlights: Corn salsa Beans Sofritos Guacamole when it is green Avoid: Guacamole when it is brown or when you are broke

STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!! Today I thought, I want some fresh Chipotle for lunch, so I walked the 5 blocks from my office at Yale, went up to the counter to order around 1:30 pm, was looking at the food to decide, and almost all the containers were empty. What steak was left, a few sparse pieces here and there, were all dried out and the sides of the container were all crusty. There was chicken, but it also looked really dried out with dry crusty chicken residue on the container sides. I wanted chicken and vegetables, but there were no cooked vegetables either. The guy behind the counter was stirring up a batch of guacamole, and just stared at me without expression or interest, even though he was wearing a mask, I could see it in his eyes, and he also didn't say hello or may I help you. So I asked him, "why are you out of veggies", he said, "because we didn't make any". In disbelief, I asked again, which I got the same reply, almost in defiance. The whole vibe changed for me, not only the overdried, crusty and mostly empty food containers, but the young man who couldn't care less, almost proud about it. Right then I decided to leave and walked away, as I exited the door I heard him talking about me to another coworker, and laughing. Never going back to this Chipotle's ever again. The only pro I can share is that it was a nice walk on a beautiful day. One star is too much.
Rona — Google review
I love chipotle but this store is notoriously the absolute worst store. The food is always cooked incorrectly, the orders are NEVER correct and the food is never fresh. Honestly my job orders from chipotle all the time but we just can’t/won’t with this one anymore. We go out of our way to two towns over to get it just to avoid the horrible management here.

Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Modern Apizza, established in 1934, is a renowned pizza joint in New Haven that offers a variety of thin-crust pizzas and Italian classics. Unlike its counterparts, Modern Apizza uses oil instead of coal to fuel its ovens, resulting in a signature charred crust. The restaurant is less crowded than other popular spots but still delivers delicious pies with generous toppings. The ambiance exudes an old-school Italian charm with wood walls and leather booths.
From the moment the pie emerged from the oil‑fueled brick oven, it was clear: Modern is a master of New Haven‑style apizza. Founded in 1934 (originally as State Street Apizza), it’s considered one of the iconic “Holy Trinity” of New Haven pizza alongside Pepe’s and Sally’s . I ordered their famed White Clam Pie (with fresh littleneck clams, garlic, olive oil, pecorino romano, and bacon). The clams were sweet and abundant, and the crust… wow. Thin, blistered, slightly charred on the bottom, crispy yet chewy—the kind of crust only a New Haven apizza can pull off . The little semolina bits stuck to the underside added that smoky crunch local aficionados talk about . I also tried the Italian Bomb—sausage, pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, onions, garlic. Delicious, but definitely loaded—worth sharing or choosing one or two toppings if you’d prefer a lighter slice . Service was efficient and friendly, though there’s always a long line to dine in—30+ minutes. Takeout was much faster (around 20 minutes), and makes the experience more casual but every bit as satisfying . What makes Modern stand out: • A loyal dedication to high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Their Margherita uses fresh mozzarella from Liuzzi Cheese in nearby North Haven . • Their oven doesn’t rely on coal but still achieves the intense high-heat bake that defines New Haven pizza . • Recognized nationally, including Pizza Today’s 2023 Pizzeria of the Year award . In summary: Modern Apizza delivers a reliably excellent representation of New Haven‑style apizza—whether you’re a local or a pizza pilgrim. Thin, charred crust; bold, balanced toppings; and a fast-paced but friendly atmosphere. If you want to experience one of America’s most celebrated pizzerias, this is a spot you must try.

This was the second place I visited during my little pizza tour this past weekend. It took a bit longer to get a table as I waited for about 1/2 hour after putting my name down on the waiting list. The staff here is nice. My server Christine was friendly, attentive and helpful. Since I couldn't decide on what kind of pie to get she suggested I get half of two different toppings. So I ordered half broccoli and half chicken. Since the place was packed, I didn't have too much of a wait time to get my order. The pizza itself is really good. I actually rated this a bit higher than the previous place I visited. I give Modern Apizza a 8.8 out of 10, just because I liked that the pizza was cooked perfectly where the crust wasn't too hard and it had a nice taste of garlic, where some people might get turned off. The restaurant itself is clean, they have a decent menu with reasonable pricing, serves alcohol (beer and wine) and has a good sized parking lot. Now that the college kids are back in school I expect this place to get busier as this really is a good spot to grab a bite to eat.
Lisa S — Google review
I stopped into Modern Apizza on a Saturday afternoon with my daughter and had a really good experience overall. We arrived around 12:40 PM and only waited about 15 minutes for a table, which was great considering how popular New Haven pizza spots can get. We ordered two small pies — the Mozzarella and a Meatball. The Mozzarella pizza had nice flavor but leaned a little undercooked for that classic New Haven char, with the crust on the softer side and a touch soupy in the middle. The Meatball pizza, on the other hand, was excellent: crispy crust, perfectly baked, and topped with sliced meatballs (not crumbled), which gave it great texture and flavor. The atmosphere feels like a step back in time — a bit of a late ’90s vibe with lots of memorabilia on the walls. It’s not the most modern look, but it adds character and charm. By the time we left, the place had filled up quite a bit, so arriving slightly earlier worked in our favor. Overall, Modern Apizza is a solid stop for anyone wanting the New Haven pizza experience. The pies are tasty, the service is friendly, and while the style can vary from pie to pie (sometimes softer, sometimes crispier), that’s part of the brick-oven character. Worth checking out if you’re in town

When we took a trip in the area we had to stop in to this famous pizza spot. There was a line at opening but it went fast. The interior is an old style booth setting. The staff was very friendly and pizza was of course fantastic. Stop if you can, if you are a pizza lover like myself you won't be disappointed. Then you can walk to Yale to burn some of the calories off.

Tried Modern Pizza for the first time and ordered the garlic bread, bruschetta, Margherita pie, and Veggie Bomb pie — everything tasted really good! The flavors were fresh and balanced, and the crust was perfectly baked. We did have to wait about 45 minutes for our order, but the food was worth it in the end. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for good quality pizza and appetizers. 🍕👏
Vivek P — Google review
Great place for pies! Service was great, pies came out piping hot. We ordered a large pepperoni and the Italian bomb. We had pizza left over for days. The Italian Bomb is the one to try when you want to dip into a different pie instead of a traditional. So many flavors in one pie. You can't go wrong. I highly recommend take a trip to Modern on the weekdays on early noon time and make sure to grab a picture of the giant metallic pizza sculpture located in the parking lot.
Joshua R — Google review
Rich flavor, rich cheese🧀, and a slightly thicker crust than Frank Pepe — some people may prefer the thinner style, but this was great in its own way. The staff were very nice, and there are tons of topping options. You can even do half-and-half or quarter combinations, which is awesome. We were a party of two and only waited about 5 minutes at 1 PM on Friday. We ordered the Clams Casino, eggplant, anchovies, and pepperoni. If you want more of a pure clam flavor, I’d recommend ordering the regular clam pizza instead of Clams Casino — but the bacon on the Casino was very crispy, savory, and well-cooked. The anchovies had a really interesting and new flavor for us, but they were a bit salty for our taste. My favorite was eggplant pizza! 🍆Highly recommend.
Juhyun K — Google review
Loved!! I'm actually surprised how much I loved! We tried the clam, meat lovers, and our server suggested the eggplant, so we had that too. Oh, me of little faith in the eggplant pizza. It was phenomenal! Something about the crust is extra great, I haven't stopped thinking about it in weeks. The others were equally good but a lot of toppings. I read that CT pizza is best enjoyed with fewer toppings and I've found that to be true. Get the eggplant pizza!

What fun! As a Gen X Mom I enjoyed the nostalgic games and music (and beverages) at Barcade. My kiddos loved the big variety of games and kid friendly food options. Most games are one token. One token is 25¢. Took me a minute to find my cents key on this phone keyboard. I don't think I've ever used it. I haven't been to an arcade in 3 decades. Used to ride my bike across town with friends in the early nineties with $10, get lunch at McDonald's, play games for hours at the mall arcade, and go home when the street lights came on. Not a responsible adult involved, interrupting, or bothered by us all day. It's 10pm. Do you know where your children are?

I couldn't wait to check this spot out. It was a lot of fun, Hello old school gamers. This place has arcade games, pac-man, pin ball, Mortal kombat, shooting games, and driving games. I didn't try the food since I just went to a restaurant up the street, but the drinks were good, different types of beers, really cool.

Randomly came upon this place while walking around New Haven and it is such a gem! So many cool games and unlimited pinball machines. Games were pretty cheap so we ended up staying there for over an hour just playing around. Drinks were good too, though we did end up losing a beer and could not find it. We kept bringing out drinks with us so I don’t know if someone ended up snatching it or if any of the staff thought it was unattended because we were too focused on the games lol. Really good atmosphere everyone was having lots of fun and there was plenty of seating to sit down and talk when taking a break from the games !

Finally visited this Barcade location! What a great place. The ambiance is great - there's plenty of games but also adequate room to hang out without feeling squished into the place. Their beer list was also awesome - a good variety! They also had a non-alcoholic beer (or was it a cider?). Love that! Of course the games were amazing - we had a great time. An unexpected surprise for me was how good their food was! And I think quite a good deal for the price. I have some tokens left over so DEFINITELY will be visiting again!

Museums
The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is a treasure trove for anyone fascinated by the wonders of our planet and its history. Established in 1866, this remarkable museum showcases an extensive array of exhibits that delve into biology, paleontology, geology, and anthropology. Visitors can marvel at the Great Hall of Dinosaurs, explore the Hall of Native American Cultures, and discover the intricacies of Earth and Space.
You can’t beat free! Really lovely museum that’s much larger than you’d think. I recommend setting aside 3-5 hours to be able to see all of the exhibits. Lots of fun topics for children and adults alike! My personal favourite highlights are the living lab and dioramas on Floor 3. They do close fairly early at 5pm on Friday, so be aware of the time when you go!

We had such a great experience visiting the Yale Peabody Museum! The museum has three floors, and the first floor made the biggest impression on us-especially since we were there with our 3-year-old daughter who absolutely loves dinosaurs. She was amazed, and honestly, so were we! The other two floors we went through more quickly, which makes sense when you’re traveling with a little one, but the overall visit was wonderful. To our surprise, admission was free-and it turns out it’s now permanently free for everyone, which is amazing. After the museum, we took a stroll around the Yale University campus, which was the perfect way to end the day. Highly recommend this experience!

We went there on a hot summer day. The staff is very kind and nice. And also helpful. This was my first time seeing a dinosaur fossil skeleton. And it’s so impressive. And they got like three or four skeletons and ample of information to read. There is also a section for other mammals and fish birds etc. also with skeletons. It was an amazing experience. The gift shop can be a bit pricey but worth it.

Come check this museum out if you're into dinosaurs mammals and animals and crystals Egyptians and really cool old stuff. So much to learn here you'll be busy the entire visit there's three floors of educational fun facts. Super crowd on weekends weekdays are better and parking can be difficult.

My fiancé took me to the Peabody because he knew I loved dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt. I loved this little museum! Our first encounter, however was with parking. Visitor parking is ONLY in LOT 22V and it's very tiny at the moment due to construction. Do take your parking ticket with you - parking is free when you validate your ticket at the front desk. It was also a bit confusing for us to find the museum - we ended up going in two different directions before finding the dino footprints on the sidewalk at the far front corner of the lot (we arrived from a direction where we couldn't see the sculpture out front until we were walking toward it.) It is a three minute walk from the visitor's parking lot to the museum. There are three floors in the museum. My first bit of advice is to give yourself plenty of time to see it. The museum closes at five p.m. We arrived around two in the afternoon and only got to see the first floor and the Egyptian exhibit - there are a LOT of informational signs, some videos and an app to see, especially in the dino and early mammal exhibits. The dino exhibit is incredible! Several of the exhibits feature real dino bones, not casts. When you first walk in, you're met by a HUGE brontosaurus towering over the entire room. There are several other dinos and bones to be seen as well. (Part if me wants to start gushing over the dinos and another doesn't want to spoil it for anyone!) There is one bit of the exhibit that was the inspiration for the triceratops sculpture that stands out front. There are two actual triceratops skulls in an exhibit of other skulls - TRex, Lambeosaur, Hadrosaur...the triceratops skull on the left was the one that inspired the sculpture. Upstairs is the Ancient Egypt and Sumerian exhibits. It is a relatively small one, but an interesting one! While it does have some other things, the main stars of the exhibit are the funerary items. They are mostly in the center of the floor and can be seen from most sides. The Sumerian part of the exhibit includes a copy of the world's first known cookbook. I intend to go back one of these days to see the exhibits on the third floor and to revisit the dinos. It was a great experience!

This is a world-class museum, plain and simple. Collections include fossil dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, taxidermy collections , incredible minerals and geodes, and ethnographic collections from the America's, the Pacific abd the Middle East. Admission is totally free, the facilities are modern and immaculately maintained. The gift shop is also a highlight. They stock good quality merch for both kids, and grownups and don't upcharge - although they easily could! If you're in New Haven, invest an hour or two in this museum.
John B — Google review
Great place to visit, especially if you want to see some dinosaur bones. There is much more than just dinosaurs here, but definitely the highlight. There is 3 floors of exhibits. Elevator access at all floors and plenty of restrooms. There is a small gift shop. Best of all its free to visit and parking is free with validation.
Cassy M — Google review
An average museum has many cast items strewn about with signs that give a brief overview. At Yale Peabody everything is numbered and has detailed descriptions. My favorite was the dinosaur exhibit. The signs showed what displays were original and what was cast. Also, the authenticity is incredible. They have more authentic fossils and historical pieces than any museum in its class. Parking was easy and free, staff were incredible. Whoever organized this place went above and beyond and I am grateful for the opportunity to visit

Yale University, a prestigious Ivy League institution established in 1701, is renowned for its strong emphasis on liberal arts, drama, and music programs. Situated in New Haven, the university's campus offers free museums and embodies quintessential New England charm. The surrounding historic neighborhoods such as Wooster Square and the Hill neighborhood provide a rich cultural experience with cherry tree-lined streets and authentic Italian eateries.
Such a GRAND school. Just to step foot onto this campus, I felt immediately smarter, haha! The architecture of the buildings really is magnificent. Like stepping back in time, seeing the huge columns, inscription into the buildings, grand doorways, and old-fashioned windows definitely play the part. Overall, it was such a nice visit just walking around the campus on a Saturday rainy afternoon. A lot of students were walking around as well. If you're ever visiting this area, I definitely recommend visiting this school.
Jennifer E — Google review
Our family has been here many times for various middle school and high school classes (highly recommend). But for the trip we took the admissions tour for our rising senior daughter and did the info session and really enjoyed it! The campus is so beautiful, and it was great learning more about applying and life on campus.

I was unaware of the scale that Yale University has. It’s quite literally an entire city. We walked for miles and block after block, building after building was just another Yale owned building. The architecture is truly incredible to see on these buildings. Hillhouse Avenue is full of beautiful houses turned into Yale buildings.
Christine A — Google review
A very nice school with nice brown bricks buildings. There are a lot of police cars along side the school and its boundaries, and the light always keep lighting. There are also many security guards walking in the school area. The bad things are 1) the streets is not very clean, there are many trash on the streets; 2) there are some people walking with hammers, or other tools ; 3)the free parking varies, some 5pm, some 7pm. Be safe when visiting.
Hills L — Google review
Let me preface this, I was only visiting the outside area as a tourist. I am not reviewing this as a student there. I am huge fan of history, architecture, and Gilmore Girls. While in the area, I had to make a visit. It was founded in 1701 and is one of the top 3 Ivy Leagues. It is known for their law, political science, medicine, drama, and history programs. I love the Gothic architecture. They made walking around accessible. They even offer tours. Overall, I think it is a lovely school and highly notable.

My wife and I recently visited Yale University for the first time, and we were absolutely amazed. The campus is stunning — a perfect blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Walking through the courtyards and along the old stone buildings felt like stepping into another world. The atmosphere was welcoming and full of energy. From the iconic Sterling Memorial Library to the peaceful Yale University Art Gallery, everything was thoughtfully designed and full of character. We especially appreciated how friendly and helpful everyone was.

On our way to Boston from NY, we decided to detour to New Haven, Connecticut, to visit Yale University, and we were amazed. It was truly worthwhile to visit this place and its beautiful buildings, which preserve the architecture of the 1700s. I recommend visiting Yale, the place where five US presidents and 60 Nobel laureates were educated. Walking through its tree-lined streets, steeped in history, was enriching for my family and me.

Italian restaurant

Skappo is a charming, family-run Italian restaurant in New Haven that offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant features sidewalk cafe-style seating with overhead covering and outdoor heaters, making it suitable for both lunch and dinner. The establishment prides itself on being full-service and recommends making reservations. It is also handicapped accessible. Visitors have praised the warm and welcoming ambiance of Skappo, noting the genuine passion for cooking and love for customers displayed by the family owners.
I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this restaurant. It is very small with a few 2 and 4 tops and two large family style tables that seat about 16 people each. We were a party of 4 seated at one of the larger tables. The service was lovely. One of the owners was our server and she was extremely knowledgeable about her food and the Italian region it was from and very proud of her restaurant. Portions are not overly sized and service is not rushed. We started with the figs and the toasted ciabatta bread appetizer. Both were great. The figs were tender, the stuffing creamy and the balance of the two ate very savory, the appetizer was perfectly balanced and not sweet. The ciabatta appetizer also good but not memorable. The lasagna was probably the best I have ever had. It is vegetarian and changes daily. Ours was a broccoli lasagna but I didn’t really taste any broccoli, it was simply creamy flavorful and melted in your mouth . I will go back again just to try another version of this. We also had the pasta special. The pasta had a great chew to it. They serve wine and have several choices of white and red and the prices are very reasonable. They do not make their own pasta but we were told it is fresh and made locally. This restaurant is not in the little Italy section of the city but for me has much more authentic Italian food and was a lovely dining experience with traditional Italian food in a quaint atmosphere and definitely worth a trip to NH to try.

We appreciate the effort that went into our meal. We wanted to share some thoughts from our dinner in the spirit of constructive feedback. Bread and Olive Oil: The bread served at the beginning was pleasant. We felt a higher quality olive oil would better complement it. Spinach Croquettes: We were excited to try these, but found the portion size a bit small for the price. In terms of taste and texture, they were denser than expected, and the spinach flavor was difficult to discern. Pasta alla Norma: The quality of the pasta was excellent and clearly fresh. However, we had trouble tasting the key ingredients of eggplant and basil mentioned in the description, as the tomato sauce was the dominant flavor. Meatballs: The meatballs were seasoned nicely. From a textural standpoint, we personally prefer a softer meatball. The green beans served alongside were a bit chewier than we would have liked.

Skappo was such a great experience. My partner and I were here for date night and the place was busy but the staff was attentive and got us seated promptly (without a reservation). Now I will say to definitely call for a reservation beforehand. It can get really busy at dinner time here and there is limited seating. My partner and I felt the atmosphere was very traditional. Like we were sitting and eating at someone’s dinner table. The food was so good! The pasta is dense with so much flavor, I couldn’t stop eating. My partner got the Ricotta to start. Then she got the Rigatoni Con Coniglio and I had the Fettucini Carbonara as our meals. Ended it with the Cheesecake with Raspberry drizzle and Salted Caramel Gelato for dessert. All of it was absolutely amazing and could not have asked for a better dinner spot. I highly recommend this place when you’re in the area. Support this wonderful family owned business! We need more places like it! Thank you!

Had the most amazing dinner and night here. Feels like you walked off the streets in New Haven and stepped into a little part of Italy. The family that owns it is so sweet and really want you to enjoy your meal. The food was authentic Italian with Italian sized portions and totally worth your money. Highly recommend.

Skappo is such a special place!! Our entire meal was so yummy, you can truly taste the love in every bite. The family who runs it was so attentive and welcoming, even on a busy night. Yvette was incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu, especially with all of my husband's dietary restrictions, she really made the whole process easy and stress-free. We also loved the surprise entertainment when her brother (the chef) came out to sing with their mom. That truly made it an unforgettable evening. If you're looking for a cozy spot with great food, great people, and a lot of heart, Skappo is it. Highly recommend!!!

Really amazing experience! The family is so friendly and welcoming. We loved the service and the food was incredible!! Lots of vegetarian options. Would highly recommend! The restaurant is small so there are two family style tables and a few smaller tables. We ended up chatting with a group who was at the same table as us but there was no pressure to socialize.

I wish I could give 1000 stars. This place is a gem and I could not recommend it more. We spent my husband’s birthday here and it felt like stepping in to our Italian grandmothers home. The love and care in this place is unmatched and the FOOD! The food is to die for. Truthfully the best restaurant I have ever been to. I hesitate to call it a restaurant because it is really a whole experience. It’s wonderful and you should consider yourself lucky to dine here. We will be talking about this for years to come.

The experience here is very homey! The owner is so cute and there's great entertainment. The apps were delicious, and the cheeseboard was with fig jam was excellent. The bread also comes out warm. The pastas are great and focused on high quality ingredients. The truffle special was so delicious and well balanced. Highly recommend coming here for great Italian food if you're comfortable with family style!

Hot dog restaurant
Jordan's Hot Dogs & Mac is a cozy counter-serve spot located on State St. It offers a variety of inventive fast food options, including a hot dog topped with mac 'n' cheese. Customers rave about the delicious and unique hot dog creations such as the Kansas City dog with BBQ glaze, cheddar cheese, and bacon, as well as the New York Dog with sweet relish, sauerkraut, and grilled onions.
This is the first hot dog restaurant I have reviewed and it’s a good one. Very gourmet with all beef and turkey options and an extensive menu with sides. Really nice place to eat, highly recommend.
Chris M — Google review
(Last visited in September of 2023.) Hanging out in New Haven, CT after doing some day-drinkin' and it's time to soak up the alcohol before we head back home so we stopped into Jordan's Hot Dogs & Mac who have been around for over a decade to see what it's hittin' for! Atmosphere/Appearance: No frills. Straightforward comfort food spot. TVs on the wall, black wooden paneling, some beat-up booths, bright-lighting and loud music. Lol. You're here for the food, nothing else. Service: You go up to the counter to order your food then it's brought out to you so nothing crazy, but very simple. Food: I got to sample quite a few things here, so let's go through them, but first I just want to let y'all know that this is a B.Y.O.B. spot! Woo! The O.G. Mac Dog: It's macaroni & cheese, bacon, jalapenos on an all-beef hot dog. There were so many different hot dogs to choose from, but I had to go with the original. This was SO FLAVORFUL. It tasted like a Nathan's dog, (but is actually a Hormel's dog), but altogether it was fantastic. The mac & cheese was creamy, the bacon was crispy and the jalapenos added just a hint of spice and a little acid. This would be the perfect thing to sober you up after a day/night of partying. Sweet Potato Fries: These were cool. They were crispy and very simple. They could use a bit more salt, but it was all good. Onion Rings: These didn't look like they were made here and that's fine. It's like I've seen these before at other restaurants and that's okay. Restaurants get stuff from the same suppliers so it saves them time. Moving on... Lemon Pepper Wings: These were a dry rub and the wings were crispy. These were very lemon-y and I liked that compared to them being too salty. The flavors were balanced very well. Garlic Parmesan Wings: These were delicious. The ingredients were caked on and that's always a good sign. It was creamy and the parmesan was a bit stronger than the garlic. It tasted like there was some extra hidden ingredients like a ranch or something that was in there, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I wish there was a bit more balance there, but it's all good. I liked them. Sweet Chili: These were not your traditional "sweet chili" wings. They had a Buffalo flavor aspect that I really enjoyed and I was literally licking my fingers after eating these! Jordan's Glaze: Another delicious flavor. The wings were excellent. There was a good hoisin flavor here that presented itself up front which gave a sweet, salty, umami flavor and was well-balanced. Philly Cheesesteak: On their cheesesteak is sliced sirloin, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos and cheese wiz. The bun was nice and soft. It was executed so well. The Maillard reaction on the little bits of steak added an extra touch that I really enjoyed. Though.. the sandwich as an entirety was a bit salty. Banana Pudding: This was really good, but comparing it to the best I've ever had (Magnolia Bakery), but this was EXCELLENT. The wafers were soft, but I was just hoping for a little more banana. Strawberry Banana Pudding: Everything mentioned above, but a little more exotic with the bold strawberry flavors. Really, really good. Value: The food is cheap, but doesn't necessarily taste like it. You won't blow your budget here and that's kinda the point. Without all the frills and overhead, Jordan's is allowed to bring you comfort foods and they can solely focus on the flavors. In conclusion, I loved it here. The food will stick to your ribs. Lol. But visit here in moderation. There's a reason they've been here for so long and I'm so happy I got the chance to check them out.

Good food and nice people! We got the hot dog with Mac and cheese on it and the burger special going on that comes with a quart of lemonade. The food was very tasty! The burger was flavorful and the hot dog had a nice taste to it. I liked the jalapeños in it. The fries were also really good, nice and crispy. And the lemonade was so good too. The man at the front was super nice and friendly, overall vibes were great.
Alexis B — Google review
I know this is a hot dog place… but let me tell you about the WINGS. Anything that was fried from here was delectable and addicting. How do they get the wings so crispy?! And the sauces were delicious as well. The fries have to be fried twice because I been looking for a place that serves fries this crispy. The hot dog to be honest was okay. When i go back i will try another just to see if my mind changes. But i absolutely will be back for the wings and fries. The girl who rang it in was friendly too and very accommodating.

The hot dog was delicious! However for a place with Mac and Cheese in the name the Mac was...mid at best. The lemonade was very good and the cashier was kind!

I'm very Disappointed. I spent almost $40 with delivery and tip and the only thing I could eat and enjoy was the Chicken Wings and they forgot my ranch. For all the other reviews tha state It taste old or Burnt.... I would have to WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE. The fries were brunt, chili lacked flavor and was too sweet with no salt. CHANGE THE COOKING OIL OR DON'T FRY THINGS ON HIGH HEAT.you can't taste anything on the food but brunt grease.

Italian restaurant
Encore by Goodfellas is an Italian restaurant with a classic mobster theme, located in a cozy storefront with brick walls and white tablecloths. The upscale and elegant ambiance makes every guest feel like a VIP, reminiscent of scenes from The Sopranos or The Godfather playing on flat screens around the room. Guests can enjoy live music while savoring well-crafted drinks and fresh dishes such as New York style calamari, pork chops, and chef specials.
Amazing! Everyone was lovely. Carlos served us and he was kind, caring and attentive. The food was superb. The live Jazz music set the perfect ambience. My girlfriends and I had a great Friday night out thanks to the amazing staff and Encore. We will definitely be back.

SPEECHLESS! 10/10 recommend. This restaurant and its service is ALWAYS top notch. I actually left The Cast Iron chop house after a cold appetizer to come here and finish my dining experience for the evening. Frank is absolutely amazing, and his Lemon Drop Martinis match! Thank you for once again making my visit exceptional. Their pre-fixe menu is an every day option that I highly recommend, you truly won’t regret it. Perfect establishment for celebrations, birthdays or even just a date night or some girl time. They also offer live entertainment as well which is usually the perfect touch.

Absolutely loved our experience at Encore by Goodfellas! The live piano music created such a refined and relaxing atmosphere, truly a highlight of the night. The ambiance overall was elegant and inviting, perfect for a special evening. We started with the octopus appetizer, which was beautifully cooked and flavorful. For mains, we had the salmon and the steak, both were excellent. We finished with the crème brûlée for dessert, and it was simply incredible, the perfect end to a perfect meal. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great food, elegant ambiance, and a touch of live music to make the evening memorable.

Second visit to Encore. The first was for a private party with a special menu. The food was amazing so I was interested to see how the normal menu compared. It did not disappoint. Fresh bread. Bruschetta that was delicious and I rarely eat raw tomatoes. The crab cake appetizer was ALL crabmeat and extremely flavorful. The anti-pasto board was mind blowing. For the entree I had the Porterhouse veal chop. Melted in my mouth. And the cannolis, well I had been waiting for those since the private party. Well done! We will be back.

Had an early dinner with some Family on 8/30/25. Honestly the most variety you'll ever see today of any fine dining menu. The "specials" were the size of a standard restaurant menu. We tried all different dishes, None disappointed. The best Italian food I've ever had. Even got a picture with Owner/Chef Jerry. If you haven't tried Encore by Goodfellas, do yourself a favor and experience great ambiance, service, and food as soon as possible. You'll be glad you did.

Dining at Encore was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Each dish was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The highlight of the meal was the baked stuffed shrimp, which was nothing short of spectacular. The shrimp was incredibly fresh, perfectly tender, and cooked to perfection. The stuffing, moist and flavorful, complemented the shrimp beautifully, adding a rich, savory depth that had me savoring every bite. From the appetizer to the main course to the dessert, every part of the meal exceeded expectations, making Encore a must-visit for anyone who truly appreciates fine dining. 10 out of 10!

Thai restaurant
September in Bangkok is a charming restaurant located in New Haven, offering a warm ambiance and traditional Thai cuisine. The menu features modern Thai dishes such as string beans tempura, Thai tacos, tom kha steamed mussel, and coconut shrimp. The restaurant has received positive feedback for its exceptional cuisine, beautiful presentation, and quick service. Guests have particularly enjoyed the outdoor seating area but noted that the room temperature water tasted unusual.
Food was amazing with more unique menu items compared to other typical Thai restaurants, I would return if I lived here so that I could try different dishes. We ate outdoors but walked through inside, the atmosphere indoors and outdoors are both great. The entrance was a bit confusing to find but you have to go through the patio. Street parking with decent amount of spots but may be more difficult to find on busier days.

Was a good thai fusion. Their cocktails were delicious. Really enjoyed the Full Moon and the Muay Thai. The pad see ew. It had a great char to the meat. My wife really enjoyed the chicken wings and the papaya salad.

In overall we had a great time. The ambience inside was really nice and the outdoor was really pretty. The only downside is there are flies and wasps on the food if you choose to sit outdoor. Starters: Tilapia Tom Yam 3/5 Coconut Shrimp 3/5 A little too sweet for me Seafood Ceviche 3/5 Mains: Beef fried rice 4/5 quite tasty but can’t really find much beef Pineapple Duck Curry 5/5 surprisingly good roasted duck was crispy and had no duck smell at all Grilled Salmon Pineapple fried rice 3/5 fried rice was kinda plain (would not order again) Shrimp Pad Thai 3.5/5 Not bad but no wok hei Dessert: Lychee crème brûlée 4/5 A little too sweet but if you share it with many people (4) it’s acceptable. Otherwise it gets too much halfway through.

The food was excellent, and the menu has a lot of amazing options. We loved everything but the pineapple fried rice and the crab rangoon were insanely good. Btw, you need to get the Guava lemonade, it was a 10 for sure. We’ll be back asap.

Spiciness to your liking, lots of seafood variety and great flavors. Attentive waitress, consistent follow ups, inviting atmosphere with a creative twist based on season/holiday, and garden-like outside seating with beautiful lights and water fountain. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. First time here after an appointment in New Haven. I sat outside of the patio which is beautiful, well decorated and lush with plants and flowers. Food was so tasty! I ordered a Thai iced tea, the basil chicken lunch special with a side of string beans. Will totally be back soon.

This was a surprisingly disappointing restaurant. I had been told that they had excellent vegan/vegetarian options. They do mark those on the menu. And those options do exist. The vegan Ramen that I had, however, was perhaps the most tasteless Ramen I’ve had in my life. I resorted to pouring soy sauce and leftover sweet-and-sour sauce from my spring rolls into it just to add some sort of flavor. It was well prepared, it just felt extremely underseasoned. The atmosphere, with the little train tracks and the conveyor belt of sushi, is a fun gimmick. The food is fairly priced. The staff was also extremely polite and helpful. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, but I was very letdown.

This was my third visit to September in Bangkok. I really enjoyed the first two times, but this time the tom yum soup had a brown broth, and the mussels were covered in green, hair-like substances, clearly unwashed and disgusting. I’ve eaten at many restaurants and have never seen mussels served without being cleaned. The soup had just a few squid rings and one shrimp, and the broth had a strong, unpleasant fishy smell. I felt nauseous after a few sips. On top of that, my husband’s Pad Thai was even more disappointing — just look at the pictures, I have nothing else to say, what is this?? Curry? Very disappointed — I won’t be coming back.
