Shopping mall
Shopping
Coral Ridge Mall is a popular shopping destination located near the Iowa River Landing. It features an NHL regulation-sized ice rink, a food court, carousel, and movie theater. The mall houses a wide range of retailers including Target, Barnes & Noble, HomeGoods, H&M, Sephora, and many more. With its diverse selection of stores and entertainment options such as the movie theater and kids museum, Coral Ridge Mall offers a pleasant experience for visitors.
Easily one of the top 5 malls in the state of Iowa. CoralRidge Mall is located right along I-80 which naturally brings a lot of visitors to the mall. While many malls in Iowa have died off in the last decade and become littered with vacant lots, this one remains very lively and energetic and will continue to do so for years to come. I haven’t come across a single empty or neglected area of this mall. Very clean too. Plenty of parking. There’s an ice rink, arcade, food court, play areas for smaller children, and a diversity of both big and small retailers. Lots of other cool shops. It’s not the most grandiose mall by any means, but it’s about as good as you’ll get anywhere outside of the malls in Des Moines. Great place to take your kids for the day.
Minespidur — Google review
Big mall in the harvest state. There were plenty parking lots so you wouldn't need to wait. There were plenty stores inside the mall, and the food court was quite huge. Plenty fast food chain in the food court, so you wouldn't face difficulty to eat. I decided to eat charleys philly steaks, and the menu was delicious. Relly love the spicy boneless wings. There was an ice skating arena. The mall was clean, and so the restrooms.
Michael S — Google review
This mall is the largest one in the area and being around a college town stays pretty busy unlike most malls around. It has the typical mall stores but also has a Best Buy and Target hooked on to it and my favorite two stores a Barnes and Noble and a Sheels. It has a decent food court as well with about 6 different places where pretty much anyone can find something satisfying. It has a lot of parking but it typically is pretty full during peak hours or especially weekends.
BOTA 9 — Google review
Well, the food court has a lot of options with the movie Theater and a hockey rink.
The R — Google review
Okay. Not too busy. Cleanliness could be improved. Carousel staff felt annoyed and didn’t help people who didn’t know what to do to purchase a ride. Ice skating staff was also not willingly helpful. I had to ask them to help us and to get us skates, etc. just obviously that no one wanted to work there.
_ M — Google review
I live in rural Iowa, but I have to go to Davenport monthly. I make it a point to stop at Coral Ridge Mall each month. They have such an array of different stores and I appreciate that the mall is still staying busy. It’s a fun way to break up my trip each month
Sanctuary R — Google review
Great Shopping Mall with several stores to shop at. Conveniently located right off the highway. Plenty of parking in the parking lot.
Marilyn A — Google review
I have been coming here my entire life. This mall is well kept and has so much to do. They are constantly getting new stores and attractions. Food court is excellent with plenty of options. Movie theater and kids museum is great also.

Children's amusement center
The Iowa Children's Museum in Iowa City is a vibrant and educational destination for families. The museum offers two floors of entertainment with activities suitable for all ages, including interactive exhibits like a farm, trains, grocery store, hospital, rocket ship, airplanes, and skateboards. The space is well-designed with safety in mind and features a quiet room for breaks. Visitors can expect thorough cleaning protocols and the option to purchase an annual pass for additional benefits.
I have 7 year old twins and a 2 year old, they played for 3 hours straight. I like the flow of the museum, suitable for wide range of ages. Also very clean inside and all employees were friendly. Highly recommend visiting here, also helpful being in a mall right by the food court.
Courtney R — Google review
Be prepared for sadness when it’s time to leave! Wonderful place to spend a few hours or an entire day, many activities and fun stations for children. Staff very friendly, helpful and professional!
Rhonda R — Google review
There truly is something for every kid here. A lot of the play areas are wheelchair/stroller accessible, they have sensory bags at the desk and warnings at each area for children with different sensory needs. The staff are super involved with visitors and are so kind to everyone. The ICM is also a part of Museums For All! We're not from the area, but we make this trip once a year because it's amazing!
Draven M — Google review
What a wonderful place for the lil ones to play! Hours of entertainment! We were there all day and had a blast playing in all the different activity rooms! Interactive and educational play rooms. Fun for all ages! Will be back soon!
Electric G — Google review
I was worried out older kids wouldn’t like the place but we had to drag them out after almost 3hrs 😂 it’s affordable and a great time.
Kristi H — Google review
My 4&5 year old boys loved it! The big slide and lights out room were a favorite!
Cody P — Google review
Accessible. So much to do and see. My kids tend to run from exhibit to exhibit and don’t stay long in one place. My 7 year old likes the “airplane”/“aviation” room best. My 4 year old likes the hospital/ambulance room best. I thought the ambulance was educational for me! So many cool sets and builds! I like the big coral cove room! Staff is attentive and is helpful. Children are encouraged to explore and discover. It is noisy, so if you’re sensitive, headphones are available to borrow. You can get a stamp and leave and come back latter same day. We like being able to break for lunch or snack, which the mall food court is right outside the museum, and go back in. Entrance is right next to outside doors, and is quick to get to. Parking is plenty, but you might have to walk a ways. One of our favorite spots to visit when in town.

I took my 3 grandsons aged 5 and 7yr old twins. They had a blast and are already asking g to go back before we leave for Illinois.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena is a spacious and renowned indoor stadium that hosts a variety of sporting events such as wrestling duals, college basketball games and more. Despite seating limitations closer to the floor, visibility generally isn't an issue for spectators. Additionally, a jumbo screen helps prevent blocked views when the crowd gets excited and people stand up. Convenient parking options are available but expect to walk some distance from your car to the arena.
Great place to watch a game. I actually played on this court 30+ years ago (yeah I’m old lol) and always liked this place. Great fans and atmosphere, much like Kinnick. Last visit was the Nebraska women’s game in January where Caitlin dropped 28 in the 2nd half, 38 total and 8 3’s. Completely took over the game and it was awesome, she was as advertised if not better. Always liked Iowa, could happily live up here except for the icy winters. Clean state, nice people, great fans at both Iowa and Iowa State.

It was an amazing night of worship and revival in the Heartland, the area will forever be blessed and annointed as more than just an athletics arena

It’s been several years since we have attended sports events at this facility since we now live out of state. We love the addition of the wrestling facility to the south and the way they handle shuttle buses to and from events.
Les K — Google review
Wont be back to a basketball game. Gone twice and it’s always like 80 degrees in that arena. cool it off. No one wants to be hot and drinking during a bball game.

Heartland of USA wrestling! Great town, great wrestling team. You can definitely feel the intensity on the wrestling mat and throughout the entire stadium. Go Hawks!

Band fabulous! Cheerleaders terrific! Atmosphere super! Golden Girl... Wowie! B'Ball team Entertaining!

Nice arena. Plenty of seating. We were there for commencement and it was run smoothly without any hitches
Gwanny T — Google review
We LOVE catching Hawkeye Sports, Concerts, etc here. They seem to pack the house for pretty much everything so be prepared for lines. We caught the Women's Basketball Game vs UNI this time. The Band was awesome as usual. The pyrotechnics were pretty cool...& the glitter bombs. I do wish they offered some healthier options for food and had more close parking available. Traffic before and after events can get a little crazy too. All as to be expected for events and venues like this however.

Kinnick Stadium is a massive football arena with over 70,000 seats and serves as the home turf for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. It is renowned for its legendary status and is a popular destination for sports enthusiasts. The stadium offers an unforgettable experience with incredible fans who create a magical atmosphere during games. Additionally, Kinnick Stadium has recently started serving beer inside the premises, making it an even more enjoyable place to watch games.
We had a great experience performing for a non-profit event that was being hosted by Kinnick Stadium. It was a very beautiful and accessible space! The event was great and kiddos loved playing on the field!

Kinnick is an awesome place to take in a game. Make sure you reserve you parking online as all the lots are prepay only.
Sean G — Google review
Iowa's Kinnick Stadium is one of the most underrated stadium environments to watch a Big 10 or College football game. The Iowa Alumni, Student section, and general fans bring the heat to opponents with their loud, boisterous nature that has been building for a full day. As a Penn State fan who has attended games between the Nittany Lions and Hawkeyes (2008, 2010, 2012, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2025) it's a budding rivalry full of palace intrique in Kinnick Stadium!
Josh B — Google review
I'm a Penn State fan and I was there for my first Iowa away game. We were welcomed by the Iowa fans. It's a very nice stadium. I love the brickwork and arches. The stripe out was very cool as well as the first quarter wave to the patients in the hospital. The view from our seats in row 27, sec 101 felt very close to the endzone action. Cool atmosphere on the walk to the stadium! The tailgates were along the route in the neighborhoods around the stadium.

1st time there. Seats in North Endzone. Had great view of field. Fans around us were good. Easy in/ easy out. The Wave!

This was my first time at this stadium. they killed the Gophers 41-3. Beautiful campus and its so touching how the whole stadium waves to the children in the hospital after the first quarter. what a great tradition!

Breakfast restaurant
Hamburg Inn No. 2 is a decades-old American diner in Iowa City, known for its hearty classics and nostalgic memorabilia. This award-winning small diner has hosted presidential candidates like Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, with a booth named after the latter. Established since the 1930s, it offers an all-day breakfast menu and famous pie shakes that guarantee a satisfying dining experience.
Always delicious! Got a No. 2 Club sandwich - yummy, fresh. The fries are crinkle cut but crisp and yummy. Burger was good - smashed pattie excellent style and taste. Food brought in baskets. I liked the coleslaw. Waitress was very kind and attentive. Saw her serve someone at the outside seating area. There is street seating for the businesses nearby, can take your food to go out there. Street seating is available April/May to Aug/Oct sounds like. I was told in the summer there is live music on Fridays. We LOVE Hamburg Inn - special place for us. Pie shakes of course! Blueberry and French Silk. A slice of pie in a milkshake. The ice cream is very tasty!
PK H — Google review
Was visiting Iowa City and told that Hamburg Inn was a must-stop. So glad I did. I had the French toast with eggs and bacon on the side. I am very picky when it comes to my French toast and this was absolutely delicious. The eggs tasted farm fresh and well seasoned. Also, our server Amelia was phenomenal! So kind and attentive. She made the experience that much better.
Brielle S — Google review
The place looks great, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Although, I think if you stay away from the burgers you might be okay. The burgers are only about 1/4 of an inch thick and come very well done, to the point of be burnt crispy around the edges. The friend I went with had a burger so salty she couldn't finish it. This used to be my go to place years ago, but sadly, no more.
Dean C — Google review
A classic diner style restaurant that has been semi updated but still keeps its classic charm. Delicious shakes that they put an entire slice of pie into, so if you're full from your meal I would recommend sharing. A fun stop!
Tara D — Google review
Fav breakfast place in Iowa City. This place has been consistently good for so many years - and it just keeps getting better. Presidential Breakfast is a classic - the sausage is unbelievably good. Chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy is to die for.
Michael K — Google review
If you want a good smash burger, you can’t go wrong here. Great “Diner” atmosphere and service. Fries were shook out of a bag, but you can’t have it all. The chocolate shake was perfect along with the rest of it served in the metal mixer cup. Next time through, we will try the all the day breakfast. Side note, saw a review criticizing the burgers. The reviewer obviously isn’t familiar with the smash burger style.
Jamie K — Google review
I loved the vibe of this place. The french fries were sooo good! I ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich and it was flavorless. If you like the pork tenderloin sandwiches at the Iowa State Fair, this one looks similar but is not nearly as good. That said, I could tell I just chose poorly. This place is busy and well-known and if I am ever in town again, I'll definitely go here and order something else. One thing I would like to note is that I was with an elderly person who needs a walker. Instead of seating us at an empty table that had a clear path to the door, we were sat in the back and it was a bit of a gauntlet maneuvering through the crowded, tight space.
Jill B — Google review
The service was amazing. Super friendly staff, they took special precautions for my daughter (gluten allergy) so she could enjoy the dinner. Lots of historical political pictures from past primary candidates and presidents. The milkshakes are delicious, and of course the burgers. Trust me, add bacon, it's probably the best restaurant ordered bacon I've ever had. Oh and if you want breakfast, it's served all day. Beware the pancakes are HUGE!

George's Buffet is a beloved establishment that has become a staple in Iowa City, especially for those connected to the University of Iowa. This charming bar offers a relaxed atmosphere where patrons can unwind with an impressive selection of draft beers and mouthwatering cheeseburgers. After a long day or game, it's the perfect spot to indulge in late-night snacks like cheese sandwiches and hot nuts. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming vibe, making you feel right at home even as the night winds down.
Great atmosphere. Super friendly crowd. Best burger in Iowa City.

My dad started bringing me here for cheeseburgers back in high school. It’s still one of my favorite spots — great burgers, awesome atmosphere, and super friendly service. Love grabbing a cold beverage here. An Iowa City must-stop!

Very low key *Buffet* that makes you a burger late at night! Pretty awesome Richard burger was made for me and my partner by the awesome bartender who had jokes and stories. This man almost persuaded me to buy some hot nuts, which is on the menu also… pretty cool in there with the lights.
Shenae G — Google review
The burgers are very good. Nice beer selection. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff.
DiLy F — Google review
Simple beer and burger Don’t expect much. It a good beer and fabulous basic burger. The wall paper is from my grandmothers bathroom. I was blown away. Next time I am getting the Richard burger.
Wendy M — Google review
Legendary tavern. Nicest and friendliest dive bar in Iowa IMHO. Menu is cheeseburger or hamburger or cheese sandwich and chips. You really can't go wrong with that
Randy W — Google review
We went on a fairly busy night around 10pm; liked that they had a lot of seating, including outside. When we walked in the place smelled amazing, so much so I decided to order a burger. Which the bartender sighed and looked at the clock and rolled her eyes. The guy before me at the bar had ordered 8 burgers and he said they serve food until midnight. There were at least four people working behind the bar, so not sure why the attitude? WORST thing about the place: THE BURGER! A frozen patty was placed in some weird looking oven thing and not sure if the meat was so fatty or they use a water bath, but the texture was offputting and the flavor was worse! Even after not eating supper and drinking that evening, I couldn't finish my burger...that's how bad it was! I am still baffled where the good aroma was coming from, cause it surely was not the burgers! At least it was cheap though. I wanted to like this place...maybe I just came on the wrong night??

Carryout only but very cool they got slices you can pickup right at the shop for a quick reasonably priced bite to eat. Loved their Veggie Alfredo. I got a 12" for myself and it was great that day and the next

Good slice. Better than most. Some are better. But pretty good. Probably 4 stars but ppl think 4 stars means bad. So they get 5 stars. Plus I like the guy who gives me slices on Tuesday. I don't know his name. But he's cool.

We love the wedge especially their cheese bread and vegetarian pizza. Always the freshest ingredients. I’d compare them to Marcos in NL!

I always appreciate the vegan cheese option and variety of veg specialty pizzas!! Parking is tricky at the new spot downtown but that's not a surprise - I'm just so glad they're still around so it's worth the little bit of hassle.
Mary S — Google review
Pizza is so delicious - cheese, sauce, and crust. Garlic cheese bread was good, but it's made on pizza crust, not bread.
Bridgit M — Google review
Had two different slices pepperoni and sausage the odd thing is they both tasted exactly the same service was fast
Kenneth J — Google review
I travel to Iowa City about once a month, and always look for local food. I ordered a whole pizza, along with cheese bread. The cheesebread is served with 2 ranch and 2 marinara . It is huge, and some of the best cheese bread I have had. The pizza is always loaded with toppings, and never soggy. This is my go to place for pizza now every time I'm in town. Also super close to my hotel which doesn't hurt.
Kerri G — Google review
Soooo disappointed. I ordered canadian bacon but received chopped ham. They are NOT the same. Pizzeria menus need to clearly say "chopped ham" if they don't have true canadian bacon because they taste so much different and I would have never ordered that topping had I known. .

Restaurant
Noodles and Company is a popular counter-serve chain known for its diverse selection of international noodle and pasta dishes, ranging from classic mac 'n' cheese to flavorful Pad Thai. The menu features items like Zucchetti Garlic & Wine Sauce with Balsamic Chicken, offering a variety of options to suit different tastes. Customers have praised the attentive and friendly service at Noodles and Company, with staff members going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
We called ahead of time on the highway as we were in the middle of 13 hour roadtrip and were searching for places to have dinner yet realized the restaurant was going to be closed by the time we arrived, so we wanted to check in if they would wait for us for a couple minutes and they thankfully did. We ordered Spaghetti & Meatballs, Pad Thai, and Buttery Parmesan Noodles which was pretty much almost completely ready once we arrived. We arrived at 10:02pm and the staff were yet again kind enough to let us quickly rush to the bathroom and freshen up. The food for me was alright. Honestly a little dry but the seasoning was nice.
Xoom T — Google review
First time trying….my daughter wanted Mac n cheese for lunch, so tried this place. The max n cheese is good. I got a Korean bowl….some people may like it, I wasn’t a fan personally. Also ordered dumplings, they seemed barely cooked and hardly were warm at all. The food came out in like 2 minutes, which is great they are quick, but everything was barely warmed. We were one of the first customers I’m guessing and the place was really dirty. Napkins and straws and that whole area wasn’t really stocked, didn’t even look wiped down from the day before. I would recommend the Mac n cheese to people, but not really the restaurant in general.
Krystal P — Google review
I paid for full/ regular size pasta and got less than small size. And they are saying they know what they gave me. Really!!! Staff and specially Manager should learn the size of the order. Never ever going this location .
Bhavita B — Google review
I’m so upset with the way my order was made and prepared, normally I don’t complain about food, but when you pay so much money for food nowadays it’s pricey and you want it made correctly!! So I ordered the chicken Alfredo with extra sauce IN THE FOOD! For starters they put the extra sauce on the side!!! And then to top it off, they gave me a pinch of sauce that amount was so small, that I had to put chicken broth in it to help moisten my noodles more! Hence the reason I paid for extra sauce!! Then I also bought the three cheese garlic bread! Another disaster! The bread was burnt, and one of them didn’t even have cheese on it! And then they also gave me literally enough sauce for ONE piece of bread but clearly it should be enough for THREE!!! I’m so upset because that’s almost $50 worth of food and it’s being served like it’s scarce or about to go out of business!!!! I really wanted a refund but by the time I got home it was closed!!
Diandra T — Google review
The food was great, flavorful, and came out quickly. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy—perfect for a quick bite or a relaxed lunch. A big thank you to Chasiti for her amazing service! She was kind, attentive, and made sure everything was just right. We’ll definitely be back

Always a good experience here. The staff is always friendly and upbeat. Food usually only takes a few minutes to get to our table and it’s always delicious. My husband and I both ordered the Wisconsin Mac and cheese bowl with chicken and that’s our go to meal. Plus the cookies are amazing too.

service was very slow even though there was maybe 5 other people in the restaurant. it took 10 minutes for the register person to even start taking orders, and all i could hear was her complaining about how busy it was inside the store. overall the environment was hostile and slow, would’ve rather drove to a different noodles store if i knew it was going to be that bad. food was good though, its kinda hard to mess up regular mac and cheese

American restaurant
Culver's is a popular American eatery that specializes in frozen custard and unique hamburgers made with Midwest beef and dairy. While it falls under the category of semi-fast food, the quality of their food is exceptional, offering some healthier options as well. Unlike typical fast food joints, Culver's provides a distinctive atmosphere for its customers. The manager John was not only friendly and courteous but also ensured that the restaurant maintained high cleanliness standards.
We stopped in for a quick bite during our road trip and the older gentlemen running the cash register and front end really was amazing. Our orders were correct, brought to our table in a quick manner. He really exceeded his customer service skills. I would of given him a 10 on the 5 stars chart! All three orders were fresh and delicious. The lobby was well stocked and clean, as were the restrooms. If we ever find ourselves back that way, we'll definitely stop back in. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!

This is a semi-fast food establishment. Food is actually very good. They have some healthy options. I opted for the fish. My daughter had the chicken sandwich. Not your standard fast food joint. It's definitely a fast food restaurant atmosphere. I would recommend if you're looking for something different.

The folks that work there are nice and helpful. Place looks nice, neat and tidy. However, the burger was disappointing. Two pieces of meat, but each one was cooked well done, almost burned; but they were each only about 3/8 of an inch thick, nothing to brag about! The custard was just okay. Ordered vanilla to get the real taste of the frozen custard; but frankly, I can see why they have so many toppings!! The custard has no real flavor of it's own. All in all, just a so-so visit. May or may not be back!!

They have the best burger here in Iowa city. Their patties, vegetables, bread, and fries are really fresh and it's prepared with precise perfection.👌 My husband and I keep coming back here!

Definitely never eating here again. 30+ minutes for a $10 ice cold burger that had to go through Drive through twice for and it's still wrong. No receipt. I don't think I saw a single person over the age of 18. It seemed like a high school show and tell with everybody running around with their heads chopped off, no direction. Its neither fast food, good food nor cheap food. Epic fail.

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Pullman Bar & Diner, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Thornberry Dog Park. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Breakfast restaurant
Pullman Bar & Diner, located in Iowa City, offers a unique twist on traditional comfort food along with craft cocktails and beers. The diner has been refurbished and its head chef takes great pride in crafting a menu that combines flavors in unexpected ways. Customers rave about the house-made kitchen fries, which are described as delicious. The diner is situated downtown and its offerings can also be found on the University of Iowa campus and at various grocers.
Wonderful experience at Pullman’s. Everyone was very kind and friendly, and the service was outstanding. We had the potstickers, the Mo burger, the risotto, and their banana foster bread pudding. We got a bit excited and didn’t manage to catch photos of the main courses before diving into them; compliments to the chef! Also highly recommend the bread pudding which was delightfully indulgent. Will definitely be back again and 10/10 would recommend!

My all time guilty pleasure is authentic “Biscuits & Gravy” that is cooked to perfection. Pullman did that! The biscuits were fluffy, the gravy met the butter and flour to emulsify a delicious taste of southern comfort. The easy over egg and the well portioned chicken breast added additional flavor that was top notch delicious. The menu offers creative options in this casual trendy environment. My only concern is spacing for those who are wheel chair bound and as I sit along the front window making sure the window sill is clear of dead flies — maybe a casual quality control check before seating guests — other than the menu selection being above average, and a surprise convenience fee added to my bill — the meal was one that I would order again and again simply delicious.
MaryAnn S — Google review
I've had Pullman several times, both in person and via delivery. The food has been inconsistent - I order the breakfast tacos every time, because when they are good they are SO good, but sometimes they are...not so good. Today I got the breakfast tacos by way of delivery, and I added avocado for an additional $1.85. The avocado was overripe; black, extra mushy, and unappealing. I am sad for that poor avocado. I couldn't help but also notice the "scrambled eggs" were not actually scrambled, which was an interesting choice but certainly not a huge deal. Now, flip side, the bananas foster never disappoints and I highly recommend! Giving service and atmosphere 5 stars as a courtesy as I did not go in person.
SfM — Google review
It was a very laid back atmosphere, everyone showing up is either getting off work or class, but you didn't feel rushed even though you can tell there was a rush coming in. The food was amazing we ordered the bone marrow which was spectacular probably one our favorite dishes that we ordered we also had the mushroom risotto it was cooked perfectly har plenty of flavor I add some fried chicken and that had a nice crunch, but what I would definitely come back for without skipping a beat would be the bananas foster bread pudding I wish I could have that every day I thought it was going to be overwhelming sweet but it was well balanced. The server was amazing as well I wish I could remember her name. Overall would definitely come back.

Had a delicious meal here! We started with Roasted Marrow Bones and Kitchen Fries for apps. So delicious. You could get full just on those. Then we ordered the Croque Madame and I got the Mo Burger. I also ordered the French Onion Soup because I couldn't resist trying that😆 Everything was so good! We took a lot of leftovers home because we wanted to save room for dessert. And we're so glad we did! Don't skip dessert! We got the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding and the Flourless Chocolate Torte. So very delicious! Service was fantastic and we would definitely return!
Christy L — Google review
The Mo Burger was honestly one of the BEST burgers if not THE best burger I've ever had. My husband had the Thai Curry Fish and while he loved it... He had a taste of my burger and nothing compared 🤣 the pot sticker app was SO GOOD too. We love different tastes and foods so this was a win food-wise. It was a bit cramped as it's a busy place and very popular. The music inside was really loud as well...we ended up sitting outside becasue it was a really nice night, and I'm so glad we did. It was very hard to have a good conversation inside and the tables are super close. (I'm sure they're trying to get as many people as possible in there because the food is so so good). Definitely a bit pricey ($33 for fish and rice dish... 17.50 for burger no sides) but if you're willing to spend a bit more, go for it!! We will definitely be going back.

This is a nice live theater. Located downtown. It is on the small size. Seats definitely are. Very small bar. Saw a performance of the touring group of Second City. Like all live comedy acts it really helps if you are a bit drunk. The act was definitely geared to college students but that was fine as Iowa City is a college town.

Cafe
Prairie Lights Books and Cafe is a charming spot located in Iowa City, known for hosting best-selling authors who engage with the local community. The cafe exudes a writer's vibe with its cozy wooden seating and walls adorned with artwork. The bookstore itself is an iconic destination, offering a well-worn charm and an extensive poetry section. It's not just a place to buy books; it's an opportunity to truly experience literature.
I love visiting independent bookstores when we travel. There's no better way to get a feel for the community. I loved how the store was laid out. All staff was very helpful, even some staff members that weren't on the clock. I saw a lot of books I had not seen on shelves before. There was a great selection even though this isn't a giant store. Seek this place out if you're in downtown Iowa City. (Cafe area looked cool... just didn't have time to explore everything...but did buy books!)

Prairie Lights is truly a gem , one of the best bookstores in the Midwest. Their collection is beautifully curated, from new releases to a thoughtful selection of used books that always hold surprises. It’s a cultural landmark of Iowa City. They regularly host author readings and literary events : definitely worth checking their website to see who’s in town. I stop by at least once a week; it’s my go-to spot for browsing, reading, or simply soaking up that cozy, creative atmosphere. Whether you’re a writer, reader, or just love the smell of books. Prairie Lights never disappoints.

The cafe upstairs has some of the best coffee in town and showcases local artists! Fantastic tea options and great matcha as well. I would not recommend their chai, but everything else is very good with pastries fresh from Deluxe bakery. The book store also has a lot of great options!

Owner told us she was going to call the cops on us for standing in front of the window display. We were standing outside on the sidewalk for a few minutes talking to a friend. The owner, Jan, came out and told us we needed to move because we were “blocking their business” and that they could call the cops on us…. For standing on a public downtown Iowa city sidewalk for less than 5 minutes that happened to be in front of the store. Will not be shopping here anymore.

Middle Eastern restaurant
Oasis Falafel in Iowa City is a laid-back, counter-serve eatery that's a favorite stop for lunch, especially during holiday shopping. This fast-casual restaurant is renowned for its Middle Eastern street foods, with the falafel being a standout dish. The menu offers a variety of fresh and flavorful options, including kebabs and gyros. The location is convenient and the service is quick. There are plenty of vegetarian choices available as well.
This is a small restaurant in downtown Iowa city. Parking might be a bit hard to find. Coming to the food: 1. The falafel was excellent- crunchy, soft and perfect taste. The hummus complimented it very well. The Baba Ganoush (5/5) was smoky and creamy. I would definitely order it. The fires were amazing too. I’m not a big fan of Baklava but it was very very good here. The size and taste of Turkish coffee was a tad bit of a disappointment. But overall a great place. The staff were very friendly and polite. The seating indoor was limited but there was lot of seating outdoor.
Krishna K — Google review
For years, I loved and admired their food since they opened. I can't enjoy any other hummus after tasting their creamy one, and also love their sauces like mango curry sauce. But during the recent years, the quality of food steadily went down. When I ordered a falafel pita sandwich for the last 3 times, everything was stale, cold or room temp including falafel. A little warm pita and at least fresh enough falafel to retain some warms would be so nice. Miss the quality they seem to have lost.
S S — Google review
On a Midwest scale I would say slightly below average but on a local scale within Iowa City itself probably considered pretty good by most. The food portions we're slightly smaller then I would have hoped. Overall I would say the price does reflect the quality of the food. Menu items pictured in the post that we tried include the gyro, and the sample platter which consisted of hummus, falafel, pita, and roasted chicken with veggies. See attached pictures and video. The staff was super friendly and super helpful. Our weight was much longer than I would have hoped. Almost 30 minutes. Come to find out our order was given to a different table so the server brought out a punch card for a free meal next time we stop in. It's a very small establishment but overall good environment. The restrooms were as clean as you would expect and parking is a little bit difficult to come by but there's a lot of side roads to park on.

After moving to Des Moines I noticed their hummus for sale in tubs at a local grocery store. It was some of the best hummus I ever had. I looked up online and saw they had a restaurant in Iowa city and I knew I had to visit. I ordered their half falafel sandwich and it was some of the best falafel I've had and I've had them all over America. the sandwich was incredible. I'm sorry I can't add a picture but the sandwich didn't really last very long. Funky college town atmosphere. Exceptional staff. highly recommended!

My favorite restaurant in Iowa City. Not the cheapest food around, but it’s truly quality. The falafel and the hummus are some of the best I’ve had. I usually get the half gyro (which is plenty) along with chips and hummus. But the chicken shawarma is also very good. It’s pretty small inside, but there’s lots of Outdoor seating around if it’s nice out. You won’t be disappointed!

Nestled within the picturesque University of Iowa campus, Hancher Auditorium stands as a stunning testament to modern architecture and cultural vibrancy. This state-of-the-art performance hall, which emerged after the original venue was lost to flooding in 2008, is a hub for an array of artistic expressions—from Broadway musicals and contemporary dance to classical music performances. Visitors are treated to an exceptional experience with comfortable seating that ensures every guest has a great view and remarkable acoustics that enhance each show.
It's an excellent venue with great sightlines. There are plenty of exits after the performance or event, and it seems they have adequate parking to accommodate a full house.

Hancher Auditorium is a beautiful facility. A big improvement over the old building. More importantly, the stage technology is amazing and will hopefully allow more top shows.

As a native of NYC have attended many on and off Broadway productions. Only recently discovered the Hancher has performances on a television commercial for To Kill a Mockingbird. So happy to have had this opportunity. From purchase to leaving the parking lot, everything about this auditorium is top notch based on this experience. What I especially like is they offer print tickets at will and able to pick it up. As someone who saves stubs this was particularly meaningful. Being able to see one of my all time favorite actors, Richard Thomas, here is a memory that hooked me to the location and desire for further event attendance. The theater itself is very well run. Plenty of helpers for guidance when needed. The souvenir shop is easy to locate. Compared to other Iowa theaters like the Hoyt in Des Moines way better in this area and overall experience. The seating is comfortable and plenty of leg room. View is wonderful. Appears so from any seat. Ticket pricing is comparable to Des Moines large auditorium Broadway options I’ve attended in the past. Definitely on my to return list. Thank you for bringing such a brilliant production to the Iowa City area. Very much appreciated ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🏆

One of the best days of my whole life! Saturday May 20, 2023 ⋅ 10am – 12pm Attended my son’s Spring 2023 MBA traditional, in-person ceremony which was held at Hancher Auditorium, located on the University of Iowa campus. This place was totally Awesome! The auditorium is huge! Very upbeat place! I would definitely recommend anyone to go there, if you get the chance! It's a very beautiful place! I would gladly give them more than 5 stars! The acousticians made an absolutely fabulous space to hear perfectly from any of the 1600 seat in the auditorium. Even the everyday lighting was a marvel to behold! Once again, I would like to repeat the acoustics are outstanding, and the three levels of seating appear to put you closer to the stage and amazing sound and lighting systems, there is not one bad seat in the house. This gorgeous, state-of-the-art space will not disappoint. Acoustically and visually par excellence.

Dog park
Thornberry Dog Park is a spacious and well-maintained park located in Iowa City. It features fenced areas for both small and large dogs, as well as a dedicated training area and an agility course park. The park also includes a pond with a dog jump-off pier, making it an ideal spot for dogs to cool off and have fun. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the walking path or relax in the shelters provided.
Really nice dog park overall. 3 enclosed sections for puppies, general, and training. All the sections are very spacious and the main fenced area has lots of sandy areas and small pools. Membership is $60 a year and they provide poop bags inside the park. Open 24/7. Never had an issue myself and everyone seems to be nice and respectful.

This is the best dog park we have been to hands down! Literally everything a dog could want in one amazing place. I wish there were more places like this across the country. We stopped on our way through, and my dog was so happy!
Sara L — Google review
This is the largest dog park I have ever seen. From the west side of Iowa City, you have to cross a pedestrian bridge over a river to get to it. You can drive to it from the east side of Iowa City. It has three HUGE dog parks inside it: one for small dog, one for large dogs (and the biggest of the three), and an agility course park. Plus all the way to the back, a dog pond with a dog jump-off pier. People commonly come and do their daily walks within the parks with their dogs. At the main entrance, there is a shelter area with a dog wash in it. It is very quiet as it is on its own little peninsula within the city. To the southwest of it is a disc golf course and a regular golf course.

First time at this park and we’ll for sure be back! My pup had the best time splashing around in the little pools, and I loved the walking path. The shaded spots and benches were such a nice bonus!
Maria R — Google review
Our boy loves this park. They are open in late spring and summer and there are many frequent park goers who are very familiar with each other’s dogs which makes going to the park feel very family oriented. We’ve made lots of puppy friends for our pup by coming here. The drive to the park is quite peaceful and the entrance runs through one of the newer neighborhoods in the City, the Peninsula neighborhood, which is one of the most unique places in town. This dog park is also surrounded by a lovely trail near the Iowa River. Some of the amenities include a shallow pond and dock for dogs to jump and swim (Lily’s Pond), separate fenced in areas for individual/dog training, and smaller dog area. There are also ton’s of poop bag stations and 3 water pumps with hoses. When it gets really hot, people will bring plastic pools for the pups to hang out in. There hasn’t been any problems from city personnel. I will say that the yearly fee for the tag which allows dogs to go inside is a bit pricey. We paid around $65 for ours. Otherwise, there is always the option to buy the 2 day pass for $5.00. 10/10, totally worth the experience for you and your pup! Side Note: The city also requires that all dogs be registered with the City, and this can be done at the animal shelter. Our boy isn’t neutered yet and for him it cost around $45, but is only $10 for neutered dogs.
Kuann R — Google review
Love this place, especially weekdays and Sunday mornings (less crowded). So much room to run! So many happy dogs to meet! Plenty of benches for people, also small shelters. Zuri loves wading around the edge of the pond; she leaves the swimming and dock diving to other dogs. She is SO much nicer meeting other dogs off leash. Lots of places to get a poop bag. Three separate areas, one especially for small dogs. And yard with pond now also has some agility equipment (pics taken soon after installation in winter) Note: water turned off in late October, turned on again sometime in April. Occasionally the pond is closed due to bad test results
Kristin H — Google review
This place is great! If you have small dogs, the small dog park is safe and usually poppin' with other pups! $5 for a day pass. MUCH cheaper to get the $50 pass for the whole year but either way, you can get in. Worth the price, they keep it clean, there are great spaces for big dogs too, they always have water, and a place to watch your pups. You can pay with your phone like a parking app as well if that is how you roll. The pic is of our puppies passed out after a lot of fun at the dogpark!

Ordered the pesto, bubly mango and a scotcharoo and, the pasta came fairly quick! The girl at the register was very sweet and patient while I made my choice. I got a small portion and the cheese they sprinkled on top was great. Definitely get the scotcharoo! They're so worth the $2.79! Super yummy and not melty or messy in the slightest. Food wasn't really good, the noodles were overly soft and didn't have any texture. Veggies were small and overly soft too. It seems like it was all old food. The portions are weird too, the small and regular seems to be the same size just put into a different bowl.
Rebecca D — Google review
Service, atmosphere, and especially the food are excellent. Exactly what I needed. Earned its five stars.

Restaurant
Micky's Irish Pub is a long-standing establishment known for its wide selection of craft brews, cocktails, and whiskey. The vintage bar and outdoor patio seating provide a charming atmosphere for patrons. One of the highlights at Micky's is Donnelly's famous drunken wings, available in a generous one-pound serving with a choice of ten different sauces to satisfy any wing craving. Additionally, the Monday special offers a $5.00 burger basket featuring exceptionally juicy and well-seasoned beef burgers.
We had fast service even with a packed dining room. The food was tasty and hot. Definitely will go there again.

Door dashed to the hotel. I’m a big Reuben fan and this one didn’t disappoint. Obviously a lot of work went in and it shows. I got the blackened salmon wrap to try also excellent. Packaging was great everything was hot.
David L — Google review
Food was middling. I think it could have been great if it had still been hot. I was especially impressed with how many Scotch Eggs came in an order, but again they were just lukewarm. (Not pictured but there were 6 pieces/3 full eggs.) Pretzel bites made an attempt to be salted, but missed the mark. Clam Chowder Soup and Irish Stew were pretty good. I’d try both again. Honestly the biggest things working against this place, and yes I’ll sound like a whiny old person here, was it was too loud and too cold. I had to shout to talk to my husband and the fans were running so hard in there that it was blowing napkins and papers off our table. If the volume and ceiling fans could have been knocked back like 20% and food temperature upped accordingly, I could have reviewed it higher.

Loud but fun. Waitress funny, quick witted, can easily dish it out, Abbie B was our waitress I reccomend her. Don't play Christmas Music in October, (my daughter did) lol.

Food is just eh. But the nice part is 68 cent wings on Wednesday. Wings are fried, prefer grilled but still decent. Sauces are meh. Drinks are good. Burger was ok. Overall, relatively affordable prices which is pretty good.

I spent 2 weeks in Iowa City and 5 of those nights at Micky's. It was the first couple weeks back to school so it was packed the first night, but the others were pretty mellow. The bartenders were all awesome. I hope they see this. I made a new friend from Brazil and almost won at bingo. Such a fun bar and very welcoming. The food was delicious and the beers were cold!

Fun atmosphere, good food (fries are great !) and friendly people.

The food here was excellent, and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. I’ve tried several items from the menu, and everything has been great easily a 10/10 across the board. Make sure to save room for dessert; the donuts are definitely worth trying. I’d highly recommend stopping by.

Restaurant
Iowa Chop House is a country-chic eatery located in downtown Iowa City, offering farm-to-table steak mains and burgers. The restaurant features a taproom with over 20 beer taps, showcasing some of Iowa's best craft beers. It's a great spot for meat lovers and large groups, with the option to make reservations in advance. The interior is surprisingly spacious and adorned with Hawkeye decorations. While it may be considered slightly dark by some, the overall experience is highly praised.
This was our Valentine's dinner this year and it was a great choice! Staff were attentive and kind, service was prompt and our drinks were never empty. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Looked and tasted amazing. The place was packed for a good reason. We will be back!

Love the elevated country vibe. Started off the meal with maple bacon and cheese curds which were amazing 👏 loved the steak salad too. Perfect blend of fresh ingredients and tender steak. Can't wait to go back.
Erinn — Google review
We had a delicious experience! The steaks were cooked and seasoned to perfection! We had the cheese curd appetizer which was very good. We had the mushroom and asparagus sides with our cuts of beef. I would without hesitation recommend Iowa Chop House and return myself if I'm ever back on Iowa City. This was the highlight of our trip to Iowa City.

We had an early dinner here and it was perfect timing. Not crowded at all. We had made a reservation just in case, though. The Duck Breast and steak were both cooked perfectly and delicious. Very nice dinner and service was fantastic!

While back in Iowa I try to get as much steak as possible. This place was a real let down. Felt more like a fast food joint than a steak place. My wife's food came out stone cold. My steak was bitter and stringy as well as over cooked. The service however was commendable, turning around orders quickly, which makes it all the more strange food came out cold. It's a solid pass if you are looking for a decent steak.

In town for University of Iowa orientation and found this establishment on Google maps. Making reservations were easy and when we arrived staff was very friendly. Place was very clean, not too crowded on a Sunday night and food was very good. We tried the cheese curds. They were great, just wish portion was a bit larger. I ordered the burger and it was one of the best I have ever had. I loved their beer choices. We also ordered their sliders and they were fantastic.

We arrived in Iowa city in the late afternoon and were hungry. The Iowa Chop House caught our eye and we had an early dinner, ~5pm. I had an okd fashioned, a house salad, ribeye. She had a 6 Oz filet. We also got creamed corn and Mac & cheese. Food was good. Steaks were cooked appropriately and the ribeye was tasty. The mac & cheese was really good. I woukd visit again. I woukd prob skip the old fashioned. Service was excellent.

We showed up for our reservation to find out I mistakenly made the reservation for the wrong day. We were a party of 9 so I thought we wouldn’t be able to eat at Chophouse but the AMAZING host staff and manager found us a table within 10 minutes on an extremely busy Saturday night. Maddie, our server, took great care of us and the food was delicious as always. We love Iowa Chophouse and will definitely be back. Thank you for the hospitality.

Bar
Nestled on Washington Street in Iowa City, Quinton's Bar & Deli is a delightful fusion of a bar and deli that promises an enjoyable dining experience. Known for its fantastic food and drink specials available every day, this spot shines with its mouthwatering burgers and sandwiches. However, the real star of the menu is their signature spuds—impressive baked potatoes topped with an array of condiments that can satisfy even the most adventurous palate.
Loved it! Great food, big portions. Would go back again!

It’s an ok college type bar with a full menu of drinks and bar food. The simple bar food is adequate, but nothing special. The staff tries to do their best to keep you happy, though. There are many other better places downtown. All our food came out cold. Cheese curds were below average, and we aren’t even picky.
Vince C — Google review
i ordered a side of fries and found so many that were inedible and made from bad potatoes. genuinely so devastating because i love the nashville hot so much. unfortunately this isnt the first time i've been disappointed in the quality of food at this location. coralville quintons ride or die ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm wrapping up now. Got the buffalo and Mac. First... The buffalo chicken can't hold it's batter. So it falls off into the sauce and mixes with everything. So basically clumpy Buffalo flower.Yuk. The bad part is that the Mac taste good but they don't give you much. It's mostly chicken and junk batter and hot sauce😒. The fries were exactly that.. Fries. But the"kids" in the kitchen don't shake the fry basket. So u end up with a clump of over salted fries. Paid with drinks (full price) missed happy hour by about 6 minutes. Oh well. It is what it is. Learning experience. Go to a college runned city your gonna get kids running the show. I believe the business earns their keep because of college kids and especially drunk ones will eat anything. 🤘🏼

We came back to Iowa City to celebrate our 10 year anniversary in March and we're looking for a nice small business to support. We stopped here for lunch and we got amazing food, great service and our expectations were beyond met! The food servings were large, especially for the price. The waitresses were super nice and answered a few questions we had about the parking meters (LOL) without judgement. We look forward to coming back!!!
Kim E — Google review
The burgers here are really good. Unique combos. Fries are pretty delicious too. The drinks aren't the cheapest and neither is the food but the atmosphere and crowd are nice and it's just a cool place. Worth checking out for sure.
Buck G — Google review
Very good! Service and food was wonderful. Wings were moist and tossed in the garlic parmesan sauce. Jalapeno poppers were some of the best that I had ever had. Update: I've been there the last 2 Sunday's and they are out of wings.....so disappointed.

The best bar food in Iowa City! My bartender remembered my favorite drink and was a pleasure to talk to. Always great sours and ciders on tap as well.
