Takeout Restaurant
Wausau Mine Company is a family-friendly restaurant designed to resemble a gold mine shaft, offering a diverse menu of Italian and American cuisine. The restaurant prides itself on its scratch-made dishes, including pizzas, prime rib, heart-healthy options, and a dedicated kids' menu. The ambiance creates an immersive experience akin to being deep within a gold mine. In addition to the food offerings, the establishment features a full bar with large-screen TVs, live entertainment, and beverage specials.
Very cool place to eat. The outside is made to appear like an entrance to an old mine. Once you step inside it does not disappoint! Even the bathrooms were kept in the mining esthetic. The food was even more amazing! We got the golden nuggets YUM! And a special BBQ honey mustard wrap. It was so good! And the kettle chips have a unique seasoning that's all their own. Service was great as well. Would definitely go back!!

We looked online for pizza that wasn't a franchise and found this place. Someone really went over the top designing the place to look like the inside of a mine. Kinda cool and not very busy on a Wednesday night. We each had a different 10" pizza, and neither of us was very impressed. The cheese & toppings were good, but the crust was more like cardboard... tough and impossible to keep the toppings from sliding off. Definitely not worth $19 each. I'd like to give them another chance with something else on the menu.

Everyone's food was excellent and piping hot. They were quick to bring it out, too! Service was fantastic. The area we sat in had tight walkways between tables but definitely unique decor.

Great food. Friendly staff. Fun atmosphere. Cute kids game room upstairs. Lots of neat history info on the walls.

This was my second time here. I don't remember much of the first time as it was 10 years ago. I can't imagine it would have been any different. The staff was very friendly and personable. The selection of food was just right. Not overcomplicated. The food arrived quickly and was very delicious. Awesome experience all around!

Danielle was on top of it! Food was great and fast. Tables, chairs, bathroom sinks! Bird cages! Decor was awesome.

Unique old mine atmosphere; excellent pizza, excellent French Onion Soup, excellent homemade Ravioli, excellent Fri Fish Fry, excellent burgers and the fries are best ever!! A busy place, great hosts and table staff, food wait time was as expected or better. GREAT PLACE TO EAT IN WAUSAU!

Excellent food in a highly distinctive setting. The mining theme is quite authentic and you'll actually feel like you are eating underground. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the facility and interior decor are truly remarkable. The whole place is unique!

Went to see the band NIGHT RANGER. They put on an INCREDIBLE SHOW!!! The setup, stage, and all around hospitality of the fair staff was VERY GOOD. Thank you to the fair staff for bringing GREAT MUSIC ACTS to central Wis. 😀

Numerous little mini playgrounds, all ages can play on some, kiddos love it! There are pavilions for adults and areas to set up for parties, and it's a pretty park. Stadium is very nice, the Monster truck show was a blast!!

This park is a wonderful park. It’s probably one of the best there is in Wausau. There’s other parks that’s it’s just as pretty and I have kid rides, but this is awesome. Everything looks so nice and clean. This park has a lot of activities from rodeo to singers just all around Good park and they really really keep it clean.

Nice size-able park with plenty of large shade trees, seating, numerous playgrounds, and has more than enough to do in the area. Brand new playground was apparently built this year and has a ton of features others in the area do not. My kid had a blast here today. Will definitely be coming back.

I had a wonderful day at the 89q HOPE in the park in Marathon Park. 89q hold this FREE event 1x a year, with amazing Christian music vocalists. This event is definitely a great place for the entire family!

It is unacceptable that the roads and parking areas inside the park are not maintained at all!!! The area around the ice rink has had the same huge potholes for 3 years now!!! There is no reason they haven't been filled and leveled after this long. Most are 4-5" deep!! I've watched Park Dept trucks drive through the area on numerous occasions, so it's not a secret they need to be addressed. Do better!!!!!

I have been to this place many times in the past and have had a good experience but this last visit I wasn’t too impressed. I had the Citrus Seltzer which was good but the shrimp tacos were just ok. The atmosphere is fine although feels a bit cold to me. I’ll go back but it’s gonna be awhile, there’s a lot better places to go in the area.

Beautifully appointed establishment that offers a wide variety of beers. They have pool tables and shuffleboard as well. I love poutine and we stopped here because we saw it on the menu. It wasn't the best poutine l've ever had. We also had deep-fried pickles which were a thicker cut, but still tasty. Our server was very friendly.

First time customers. I ordered the NY Strip which came with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. My husband ordered Nashville Hot Chichen sandwich with steak fries. Also ordered cheese curbs as an appetizer and Brownies for dessert. I ordered a medium rare steak. It was over cooked. I wanted to love it..but the only seasoning if it had any was the garlic that was mixed in the butter. The green beans were soft, but no seasoning at all. The garlic mashed potatoes were slimy then some chunks. Not sure what happened to them. They also did not have any seasoning. I salted everything and still couldn't bring myself to eat my meal. My husband liked the chicken sandwich. However, he felt the breading was a bit salty. Guess the kitchen can't make up their mind about the salt. The French fries were good, but hubby is not a fan of seasoning salt. Cheese curds were good. Not overly breaded. The dessert. It was some kind of cheesecake brownie, topped with a scoop of ice cream, hot fudge, caramel and whip topping. It was ok, but the brownie was more cake then brownie. We did have a friendly and attentive waitress. To be honest, I don't know if there will be a second time. If I do, there will be things I won't order again.

Good food, friendly service, but just a little slow. We stopped for dinner on a Sunday evening. I was impressed by the building and design of the inside. It seemed kinda swanky, but not overbearing and stuffy. Our server was kind, but seemed a little forgetful. I had the steakhouse salad even though it was a little overpriced for a salad. The kids loved the waffle fries! My daughter really liked her Mac and cheese. We would try it again if we were in the area.

Rad spot to snag a drink and food! Nice tap list, the menu had an impressive variety of options and the atmosphere was top-notch. Everyone in the group enjoyed their food and our server was a real gem. I had the Sherman Street Chicken Salad and it was great. Will definitely be back to try the French onion soup.
Jordyn S — Google review
The food was really great. No issues with the quality of anything shown here. The Brussels sprouts were great, with a nice complimentary sauce. The beer batter was nice, crispy and light. The fried chicken, smothered with a Cajun sauce, shrimp, artichoke and sausage was great! It was slightly too salty for me, but eaten with the beans and mashed potatoes - it was great. Nice heat. The restaurant is big, with a variety of places to sit. It would benefit from some renovation, cleaning and lighting improvements.
Bernard L — Google review
We’re there about an hour from closing. The service was great. The waitress friendly and attentive. Food arrived fast. Rueben was good. Sauerkraut seemed authentic. The bread wasn’t toasted as much as I would have liked. The meatloaf had an odd flavoring - seemed like thyme or rosemary. Not the best. It was ok but we wouldn’t order it again. Seemed dry. Potatoes seemed tasteless. The French onion soup was amazing. Very flavorful. Salad was good too. I asked for blue cheese dressing but they didn’t have any. They did have the Gouda dressing. Again, an interesting flavor. Wouldn’t order again. The menu was a good selection. We will definitely stop by again. It’s a nice Irish pub-type atmosphere.

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Nestled in the heart of Wausau, Wisconsin, Granite Peak Ski Area is a winter wonderland for snow sports enthusiasts. With over 200 acres of terrain and more than 70 runs, this ski resort caters to skiers and snowboarders of all levels. From beginners to seasoned pros, everyone can carve their way down the slopes and experience the thrill of navigating powdery terrain.
As a recent transplant to St. Louis from California, I was skeptical about finding a ski area within a day's drive that could offer real vertical and fun runs. After doing some research, I decided Granite Peak, Wisconsin— a seven-hour drive — was my best option, and it didn’t disappoint. This was my first time skiing at a Midwest resort, and I spent three days there during Christmas week. It was absolutely worth the trip. The snowmaking and grooming were excellent, with about three feet of snow on the slopes, and there were plenty of great cruisers to choose from. I’m an advanced-intermediate skier, and while none of the runs were overly difficult, they were still a lot of fun. I was able to lap runs easily and rack up a lot of vertical throughout the day. The terrain is steeper at the top and mellows out nicely toward the bottom, offering a good variety. Night skiing is included with the day pass, which makes it an even better value. The staff was friendly, parking was easy, and the resort sits right next to Wausau with all the accommodations and dining options I could want. The whole area felt like a winter wonderland, and the views from the top — looking out over the flat Wisconsin River Valley and the lights of Wausau — made the experience even more memorable. While I was a little disappointed that the entire mountain wasn’t open (it opened fully the week after Christmas), everything that was open was fantastic. I did notice a lot of beginners near the base area, so it’s important to use some caution where all the runs converge. However, once the full mountain is open — including the two chairs on the west and east side of the mountain that serve primarily intermediate and advanced runs — the skier traffic will spread out significantly. This will help minimize congestion at the bottom and provides more options to avoid beginner areas altogether. Overall, I had an incredible time and plan to make Granite Peak a bi-annual trip, fitting it in before my yearly two-week ski trip out west.

WOW I love this Ski Area!! There are so many hill to go down hill from beginner to expert ski. I love the one hill with long and very steep hill because I go down REALLY FAST!!! AWESOME!! I did see one hill have for Snow Skier to do jump trick. There is one lift chair (next to building to left) go pretty steady and slow. While the other lift chair (next to building to right) was going pretty fast. I like that speed so I can get going. I do like their Ski store they have with variety ski outfits and magnet. The tickets line was good but I wish I didn't have to go to window to get my ticket. It would be nice to have a machine outside to scan QR code then it will print ticket out. When I get to ski lift gate to scan my ticket I sometime have problems to scan my ticket thru my Ski coat. I like their Bar restaurant and Cafe place to eat. It seems pretty expensive. I thought it was interesting Cafe offer DISCOUNT for season pass when order foods or drinks. While Bar restaurant doesn't offer one. lastly, one strange fee cost is that at Cafe I don't get E&A FEE at all. While Bar Restaurant does charge me E&A FEE.

We had a spectacular day weather wise for the fall lift ride. The crew running the lift were friendly and very courteous. Very helpful to anyone who needed assistance seating on the lift or exiting the lift. The young lady that was at the ticket booth was very friendly and helpful as well. We will definitely be back again next year!

Always come here in March or April when closer resorts are done for the season. Usually after a snowstorm. Always great conditions. Newer amenities. Fast lifts. General atmosphere reminds me of DH which I also love but bigger, with faster lifts and newer everything. These pictures taken on March 20th

Had to switch plans at the last minute because Cascade was sold out and I now say we are lucky that was the case. Granite Peak was a lot of fun. Great variety of runs, low wait times, friendly staff and a beautiful area. Indoor facilities including dining and bar were decent quality and good service. Will definitely go back.

Mexican restaurant
La Taqueria in Wausau offers a modern twist on traditional Mexican street food. The open and airy space provides a welcoming atmosphere for enjoying authentic dishes. The menu features a variety of options, including chicken and chorizo burritos, queso chorizo dip, and shrimp tacos. Guests can also indulge in horchata and flan for dessert. The restaurant aims to continue the legacy of its family's taqueria business by serving flavorful cuisine that captures the essence of Mexican flavors.
Came with a large group and was greeted by friendly staff and great service. First time here from out of town, had good expectations based on a recommendation we received. Menu was a wide spread of options and great variety. Everything our group ordered came out quickly and looked spectacular. My burrito was amazing, huge portions and very filling. Amazing experience overall, would recommend to all and loved my time here. Thanks

Ceviche was Amazing!!! Great Flavor with a spicy kick! I gave them a 4 star rating because there is no bar, and not your typical dine in restaurant. You have to order at the counter and pay in advance before getting your food. If you want to drink there it's kind of dumb because you either have to buy all your drinks at once and they get warm , or you have to keep returning to the counter to purchase them. Doesn't work very well when your using the company credit card....

This was a great place! I went there with my boyfriend, and we ordered tacos and a burrito. While I’ve definitely had better tacos elsewhere, the burrito was absolutely amazing! So flavorful and satisfying! I’d go back just for that. The vibe of the place was really nice too! Clean, and welcoming. It had a fun, casual atmosphere that made it a great spot to hang out and enjoy a meal. Overall, a solid experience and definitely worth a visit if you’re craving good Mexican food!

I'm a foodie at heart and Mexican Cuisine is at the top of that list! Wisconsin food has left me less than impressed especially when it comes to Mexican cuisine, however La Taqueria has definitely earned the top spot on my must stop locations when in the area. We ordered the following: Barbacoa Bowl, 4 street tacos Mexican style (2 Pastor, Chorizo and Barbacoa) Elote, chips with salsa and queso with chorizo along with 2 large sodas, our total was $50.30 which too us is a lot of food for the money. Everything was really good; my only complaints were the tortilla used for my tacos almost appeared to be wheat based instead of the flower or corn tortillas I'm used to and the chorizo queso was way more chorizo than queso (weird problem to have as usually it's the opposite) but the employee at the counter was more than happy to add more queso to the cup. As far as the ambiance, the place was clean and staff was welcoming and ordering and receiving your food at the counter kept things moving. All in all, the food was amazing from the Elote (which was perfectly balanced as far as corn to mayo/cheese/Chile powder ratio as opposed to the usual of more corn than anything) to the Tacos. We will definitely be back. (Took one star off due to the Barbacoa didn't have allot of flavor and the tortillas used for the street tacos.)
Gary H — Google review
Food wasn't bad. The chips weren't as tasty as I had hoped. The burrito was on the smaller size. Despite all the atmosphere is great. We were passing through from a weekend getaway and stopped in. I had a craving for authentic Mexican cuisine. The prices were decent. The sit-down area was complimented with an outdoor covered patio for cool days. Temperature was nice inside with a television and various sitting areas with high bar tables, booths, and tables with chairs. Music was a little loud and needs to be turned down for quiet conversations instead of having to shout. Would return again. People seemed to love the place. It was packed with almost people standing in the doorway for ordering.

I ordered street tacos on taco Tuesday from them online for pick up and we got the cheese dip with our tacos. however, once I was leaving, I realized that there was no chips in the bag and I did not realize that the chips are separate from the cheese dip. But the server at the restaurant gave me chips, free of charge even though the mistake was on us. They provide excellent customer service and their food is excellent. Thank you!

Carmelo's Italian Restaurant is a family-owned establishment that takes pride in its three generations of serving authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant boasts of preserving recipes passed down from the owner's great great Italian grandparents. Guests can savor traditional Italian dishes such as pizzas, pastas, and antipasti while enjoying the cozy family atmosphere. In addition to their renowned Italian fare, Carmelo's also offers a popular pan fried haddock dish as an alternative to typical beer battered options found elsewhere.
We reserved one of the igloos for a birthday party. The experience was wonderful! The view of Granite Peak is breathtaking at night. The food was great. We had lasagna, steaks, and fish, so a good mixture of the menu. We were not disappointed. Deserts afterward were fantastic, especially the pistachio cake. Service was good and the igloo was kept warm and was already when we arrived. Carmelo's offers a great Bar menu as well as a lot of non-alcoholic options.

First time here! Have wanted to go for years, and finally made it last Friday evening. Called Thursday and found out they don't take reservations. So we took our chances. Close to a 2 hour wait (which we were made aware of, and were ok with!) We enjoyed some yummy drinks at the bar while waiting. When we were summined for our table, I was surprised to see that 3/4 of the dining room was empty and all the empty tables had already been cleared. So I assume either we were forgotten about....or EVERYONE got done eating at the same time. Atmosphere was.....ok. Nothing about it spoke to me as "Italian" or "Supper Club" or anything of the sort. Powder blue wallpaper and light oak everywhere. Although extremely dated, everything was clean and the staff was SUPER nice and attentive. The most disappointing part was unfortunately the food. Watery, bland clam chowder, laughable "Italian Charcuterie", and although the Manicotti tasted good, each one was tiny, and the red sauce was overly sweet. I had I known they were so small (almost rigatoni sized!), I would have ordered 5 instead of 3. I may visit again, but would definitely recommend going on a night where they take reservations- as I wouldn't wait 2 hours again for the disappointing food we received. Summary: Dated decor and OK food. Service and drinks were amazing as well as the staff!

If you're looking for a place to study, meet with friends for a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or a delicious meal Vino Latte is your spot. They have comfortable lounge seating for a casual conversation, tables for 4-6 people, or quiet corners for solo time. They also have a great selection of wines and some fun gift ideas.

Needed a nice coffee shop for a short meeting in Wausau. Vino Latte was a well-maintained coffee shop/wine bar with a great ambience and delicious coffee. It was located near the main highways so it was easy to access.

The food and coffee are both so amazing, however their workers at the registers were very short and rude to both my friend and I. To me customer service makes or breaks a customers experience. I do get that they could behaving a bad day but you should not bring that into the work place.

Well, worth the stop in both coffee, food, and if you’re interested, good wine. Pizza and wine on Tuesdays, I will always recommend too!

Coffee, Whiskey, and Wine in one spot? Say less. Even the kiddo got a decaf latte and loved it. Good selection of local and out of state whiskey.

Restaurant
Back When Cafe is a charming restaurant located in an urban-rustic space with a historic tin ceiling dating back to 1800. The menu features upscale home-style American cuisine made with sustainable and regional ingredients, often infused with Italian and French influences. The diverse menu includes classic dishes like beef tenderloin, walleye, salmon, and meatball pasta, as well as seasonal options such as wild pheasant and Chilean sea bass.
Absolutely loved this place. It was our first time there and we were pleasantly surprised! The food was wonderful and our waiter was very attentive. They had a piano bar that was an unexpected bonus as I love to sing and I blew them away with my "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" rendition which had the group of gals there begging for more and even asked if they could take a photo with me! We will definitely be going back the next time we are in Wausau ‼️

We stopped here during the Wausau Night Markey event. After a short wait, we were seated outside, which was perfect to listen to the music and people watch. I ordered the Chilean Seabass. Wow, it was absolutely amazing. It was cooked in a paper enclosure that kept the seabass very tender and moist. Christi ordered the Ragu Bolognese which was also very good. We had a wonderful experience for an impromptu visit. Our server, Payton, was amazing and offered honest reviews of various dishes. He was attentive and very pleasant. We highly recommend this restaurant for amazing food and service.

The evening was well spent with my daughter at Back When Cafe . We started with chz curds as appetizer followed by cheese ravioli , Arancini risotto balls , Cesar salad and lava cake with ice cream. The restaurant was cozy with fireplace going . A Gentlemen at the piano this evening . will definitely return!! delicious food ! prices aren’t that bad either .

Delicious dinner, wonderful service, great ambiance, and entertainment. To say we enjoyed ourselves is an understatement! We will most definitely be returning!

Back when cafe is a treat! I got the lumberjack salad that had fresh vegetables, which was delicious. For dessert, I had a chocolate cake that was so rich but so good. The atmosphere is very pretty, with live music, posters, and a patio with flowers. My only complaint was the service, which was a little slow and our waitress got mixed up a few times. Overall a great experience.

food is always high quality. service/timing tonight was unacceptable. On a Friday evening where the dining room was less than 25% full, we waited more than 40 minutes between soup and entree while tables next to us got their food, ate, paid their bill and left. Our waiter came by several times asking if we'd like another cocktail, uncomfortably asked what our summer plans were, asked what we did for a living, but never addressed the wait. When we finally inquired about timing he said he just discovered an error in the kitchen (not sure he would've said anything if we hadn't asked directly) and offered no concession (one of the 4 times he asked if we wanted another cocktail he could've explained the wait and offered a complimentary beverage, but he didn't). Also it was our anniversary that we had noted on the reservation. On previous special occasions we had always been acknowledged. It will be a long time before we return for any special occasion, regardless of how good the food is.

Excellent food, and even BETTER customer service! I left my umbrella and they delivered it to me after I had already left! ❤️ We reserve a private room for our group of people and had the best experience! Highly recommend! 👍🏻👍🏻
