The Ohio State Reformatory, also known as the Mansfield Reformatory, is a historic prison in Mansfield, Ohio. It was built in 1886 and operated for over a century until its closure in 1990. The castle-like structure served as a reformatory for young offenders and has been featured in several major motion pictures including 'The Shawshank Redemption.'
Lots of fun. I would highly recommend taking this tour. We did the self guided tour which was really nice. In hindsight I would have probably done a guided tour of the facility. They have a couple to chose from and when we crossed paths with the tours it sounded like the guides were very knowledgeable. They also took you places the self guided tour could not go.

This is a super cool place that I highly recommend visiting. We had a great time taking the historic Shawshank Redemption tour. If I could do it again, I would choose the behind-the-scenes tour. The website mentions it’s a bit more strenuous and involves more steps, but I believe it would provide more interesting facts.
Mary J — Google review
It was such an amazing place to visit. There is so much history to learn here. We booked a tour, and lucky us we were the only two people on the tour, so our amazing tour guide customized the tour to our liking. Some areas were off limits because they were setting up for the Halloween prison, and in some areas, we were not allowed to take pictures because of that, as well as some areas still house prisoners to this day and it's a federal offense to take pictures of them. Loved all the history and picture opportunities of the Shawshank Redemption film. It is very interesting to see the cells and the chapel, the x marks the spot, and the attic. You can every sponsor a cell to be restored. Very cool place to check out. We would highly recommend you to visit here.

One of the best tours I have taken in a long time. I have been a fan of the Shawshank Redemption ever since I saw it in the theater. We ended up taking the "Hollywood Meets History" tour and were not disappointed. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of both the history of the prison and also of the movies that were filmed there. Although the tour was excellent, I recommend saving time to also do the self guided tour. If your in the area, this is a MUST SEE for any history or movie fan!
Steve B — Google review
We did a daytime tour to avoid the haunted house. The tour guide was excellent. They covered the actual history of the prison, along with some info about the movies that have been filmed there. There was a lot of props from Shawshank Redemption, also. Would absolutely recommend the guided tour.
Kitrina D — Google review
We took the Hollywood history tour and if you're a fan of the Shawshank Redemption you would love this. It was also informative any the other movies shot here and the prison in general. Not recommended for anyone that can't climb stairs as there is a lot of this. Our tour guide Abby along with Ashton did and excellent job of being entertaining and informative. Definitely worth it. They have several other subject tours available too. Recommend booking online, very easy process
Virginia B — Google review
It was awesome the prison was so creepy yet historical. The makeup and graphics were great, scenes and props were very well done. They did a great job assigning times for people to book so the long lines were avoided. There were food stands and little stores to purchase merchandise. I had an elephant ear. Parking was free. I had a great time!!
Heather D — Google review
This was an unexpected stop and I enjoyed the history. We did the self guided tour with audio and learned so much. We disappointed that we couldn't go downstairs because they were still taking down the haunted house items from Halloween.

I heard that this place has the best coffee in the city, so I decided to give this place a try for the 1st time. It was raining and I was in a hurry because I had an appointment that morning, I went in to try to get some coffee and I asked where the register to order my coffee, but the staff gave me a bathroom key for up stairs and I was scrambling all around to find the register as I thought it was up stairs. So I told the staff that I said "register" not "restroom" and we had a good laugh and I gave them back the key. So, I finally got to the register, and ordered an Iced North Main To-Go and since I'm a college student, I got a discount and the cashier didn't even ask for my Student ID and she already applied the discount into my order, even tho I showed my ID anyways to make sure, which was awesome! As a result of their kindness, I gave them a nice good tip as a thank you for their understanding despite my ignorance from earlier. 😆 They made my order pretty fast, which was a big plus and let me tell you, the coffee was worth getting thru the rain and construction and was worth getting lost. The coffee was spectacular and definitely is the best in the City. Their staff is understanding and very kind, ESPECIALLY to first-timers at the place. Very safe to say that I will be back more often during my college academic year and possibly beyond!

This is a shared space with the bakery. Both are great. Coffee lovers will enjoy the traditional and new favorites. Full bore caffeine and decaffeinated options. They will gladly mix a half and half for your slow buzz. Very friendly and helpful group and don’t even snicker when I ordered decaf! Both our coffees had a good flavor. The streets in the area are being reworked but an easy park and walk to get there. It will be really pretty next fall when the city finishes the downtown renovation. But till then, enjoy the good perks inside!
JBT — Google review
I have been going here before the google online review app was about. I thought it was strange, Google was asking me to do a review when I was in. I went here before the bakery and before it had two sections. When it first opened up, it had an edge to it because of the art and the crazy folks who worked there. Now it has the bakery in and the edge has worn off, but it still has the downtown vibe. A lot of different types used to hang out here now, mostly a vanilla crowd. Coffee is well selected, but the flavors are weak. They have survived well and have a good sense of community. There is a good selection for seating. The place has a nice old world feel with the floors and walls. It is worth going to for the atmosphere, but overall coffee and eats other coffee shops have eclipsed them in time. It is a nice edition for where it's located.

We stopped by while picking up a dining table in Mansfield, OH. The coffees we had were made to order and very good. Their baked cookies were yummy too and went well with the coffee. The inside is very eclectic and spacious. The staff were friendly and very conscious of customer service. A great place to relax and gather your thoughts.
Mike S — Google review
I don't drink coffee so I always base a coffee shop on what else they have to offer. Pastries and baked goods were great. Try the chocolate bread. However, my hot chocolate was like watery luke warm chocolate milk. A bit disappointed in that. Can't be perfect on all fronts though. My cousin liked her coffee, though. She even went back the next morning for more. Vibe was cool. Loved all the old doors on the walls, bar, and tabletops. Was a nice surprised to see the second room for hanging out. I suspect you can see them roasting beans on the right day.

Really great atmosphere. One of the best lattes I've ever had. The foam was perfect and the baked goods were delicious. Wish I had more time to just sit and read there. Definitely a place I stop again when I'm back in town.

Amazing and relaxing environment, with kind employees. Their service is quick and your drinks are usually done within 3 minutes. Plenty of space to sit and enjoy your coffee, tea, pastry's, etc.

Diner
Coney Island Diner, a beloved establishment since 1936, embodies the essence of an authentic All-American diner in the heart of Mansfield. The interior exudes a charming old-fashioned vibe that evokes nostalgia. The menu features a delectable selection of classic diner fare such as cheeseburgers, fries, shakes, and their renowned pea salad. This iconic eatery is also celebrated for serving breakfast all day long and is particularly famous for its coneys.
The food here is so yummy you must try it. It's my first time, but it won't be my last. The waitresses were so kind and always check your needs. The inside takes us back in time.

Ordered lunch here today. First time visiting, and I've been wanting to get lunch here for a while. I called in my order for pickup. The young lady was pleasant to speak with and took my order quickly. I ordered two coney dogs with slaw, fries, and a piece of Dutch apple pie. For starters, the coneys are spot on. The coney sauce has great, nice soft buns, and the slaw is just the right amount of sweet to make these some of the better coneys I've had in a long time. The fries were ok, but seemed a bit dull. They weren't crunchy, but they also weren't soggy. They aren't thin cut, nor are they thick cut. Very basic and boring. Maybe they could have been fired a little longer to get more crisp to them. The Dutch apple pie was good. Comparing it to a Dutch apple at most places, this would be a step up most assuredly. That being said, I wouldn't put it up against my favorite pies from some of my favorite Amish restaurants, such as Boyd & Wurthmann. For $15, I think the price is a little steep for the quality. But it's not the worst deal in town? Will I be back? Yes, for the coneys. But I'll get something other than the fries, and will probably just skip the pie for some homemade cookies I made myself at home.

Amazing place! So glad we stopped in. We had family who came into town and decided we were finally going to stop by.... After years of wanting to come here we finally did ... Didn't disappoint and is exactly what I thought it would be. Good food... Definitely left full and treat prices! Super cool decor as well. The owner and her daughter seems to be truly nice and genuine people. If you get a chance to stop here, especially during the construction, please make it a point to do so. These business need us! Thank you for the great experience and wonderful meal. We will be back

Coney Island Diner is a gem for the Mansfield area! The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is very nostalgic and the service is the absolute best! It is always clean and you can find something for even the pickiest eaters! We absolutely love it!
Kim R — Google review
Come for the nostalgia. Come for the friendly, quick and capable wait staff. Heck, come for the pea salad, even--just don't come for the coneys unless you want a sizeable serving of slimy disappointment. The sauce was gelatinous, as though it had been thickened with cornstarch. The rest was great, but as a Coney restaurant, that's the part you're supposed to get right!

I was here a couple of months ago and forgot to review until now. There was road construction by the front door, but was very impressed with the food and the service even if I got in just before quitting time. Give this little place to try if you haven't yet

Restaurant
Athena Greek Restaurant is a cozy and welcoming spot in downtown Mansfield, established in 1977 and now owned by George Axiopoulos. It's the perfect place to experience traditional Greek platters, salads, pita sandwiches, and pastries. Visitors rave about the delicious gyro, fries, baklava cheesecake, galakto-bouriko, spanakopita, and exceptional service from the friendly staff.
I always adore coming here! Lovely place and great food every time. I ordered their coffee and it was poured table-side and you get a complementary cookie with your coffee. I also got a Grilled Chicken Open Plate and rice pudding which is made in house. I definitely recommend both.

My Husband and I came here tonight with two of our best friends. It was the first time we had tried this restaurant, and let me tell you, IT WILL NOT BE OUR LAST! The lady that was our server was an absolute delight and was so eager to walk us through the menu and explain anything and everything we had questions on, she was funny and easy to talk to. We all absolutely adored her. She even brought us samples of their hummus (WHICH WAS DEVINE) just because my husband had never tried hummus before! The food was delicious and absolutely one of a kind! I have always been a fan of Greek food but I have never had something so flavorful and addicting! The prices were phenomenal too! We will absolutely be making this a regular go to! Worth every penny and calorie!

The food & service is amazing! I was with a group of 17 ladies. They had a table set up for us to sit together! Our server did an excellent job. We also got to meet the owner & he made baklava just for us! (We had reservations, so he knew we were coming) the Greek coffee is delicious! Strong & sweet! Definitely go try out this restaurant! I went because of the good reviews & I agree! It’s worth your time. Your taste buds will thank you.

It was delicious! Wishing the sauce on the gyro was thicker but still so good !! Great customer service as well! Very clean open kitchen

We had a large party (11) and came in quite late, close to closing time. Despite that, this cozy, casual Greek restaurant provided a warm welcome and platters and platters of delicious food to our group. The waitstaff and owner were friendly and provided great service. The cheesecake baklava (layers of both types of dessert) was honestly the best cheesecake I've ever had AND the best baklava I've ever had -- including in Greece! I'm not local but if I were I would honestly be eating here at least once a week.
Maggie T — Google review
Edit: Was in the mood for a gyro and craving some baklava cheesecake today. So I came back for a second visit today for lunch. As expected, the gyro and fries were good. Fries were a little undercooked, but the gyro was perfect. I ordered a new dessert for me, galakto-bouriko. This was fantastic. It's heavy, rich, and decadent. Might be my favorite new treat. Today I channeled my inner fat kid, as I also ordered a piece of baklava cheesecake. A little disappointed as it appears to be a bit different. It had a chocolate crust and what seemed to be a chocolate swirl in the cheesecake itself. It wasn't as good as the first time I ordered it here. Hopefully it's not a permanent change. As a whole though, very happy with the $20 I spent here today. ------------------------------- Edit 2: Ordered a falafel gyro and fries for lunch today, with an order of kataifi and baklava as well. The falafel gyro was great, no surprise there. I prefer the lamb tho. The kataifi and baklava were on another level today. Both were just lathered in honey. Which is a good thing. So much flavor. Get the kataifi and baklava everytime you visit. Every.....time.... ---------------------- Had a wonderful experience here for lunch. I phoned in a pickup order and the young lady who answered was polite and full of energy. She sounded like she was enjoying herself at work. Great first impression. When I got to the restaurant, two people greeted me by saying hello and welcoming me in. Great second impression. And I believe the young lady who I spoke with over the phone also got my order for me. She was so polite and had fantastic energy. For lunch I ordered a gyro with fries and a piece of baklava cheesecake. You read that right, baklava....cheesecake.... The fries were at first a disappointment. I was expecting them to be seasoned fries, as every Greek restaurant I've been to has seasoned fries. These aren't seasoned, but they are good. They were fried perfectly and consistent throughout the serving. So I added some salt and got over it. As regular fries go, they are delish. And maybe if you ask for seasoned fries they have them. I'll have to check next time I order. The gyro was quite tasty. It was also quite large. And it had more tzatziki sauce than any gyro I have ever had before. I really couldn't have been happier with it. The veggies were big and fresh, and the whole gyro was just bursting with flavor. The baklava cheesecake though. My goodness it stole the show. My favorite dessert is baklava. I visit Greek restaurants sometimes just to get a dozen pieces or so for the week. But to put it on cheesecake? GENIUS! Seriously, the two pair phenomenaly. It's my new favorite dessert. The cheesecake itself was solid. But the baklava layers lightened up the dessert and it looked as good as it's flavor. All in all, this place rocks. Highly recommend it. Get lunch here and don't forget the baklava cheesecake. Will be back many times.
Ryan D — Google review
You will get a generous portion of gyro meat! The red pepper hummus is tasty, served with hot pita bread & olives. The Baklava diamond was too clove forward. It overwhelmed the taste. (It was a little small as well.) The lettuce/tomato served with the hummus, could have been a bit more fresh. I would return for that delicious gyro!

We were greeted & sat right away to a cozy booth. It has a diner feel & a smaller retro feel. The waitress was very friendly & attentive. Another female, whom I think was an owner came over to our table and explained the menu, including the Greek desserts. Some desserts were homemade & some not . The restaurant has a variety of Greek dishes, along w/cheeseburgers, sushi, salads, & other choices.

DLX, a recently renovated establishment, offers outdoor seating with a charming view of downtown Mansfield's central park. This flexible and casual cafe serves lunch and dinner, featuring a diverse range of daily specials. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates on live music events on the patio. Customers have praised the attentive service and generous portion sizes despite the slightly higher prices. The menu boasts a wide variety of food options and an impressive drink selection including craft beers.
The public was welcomed at DLX for a free Thanksgiving dinner today. The service was fantastic and they did great at making us feel comfortable and at home. The Thanksgiving meal that they provided was first class. The food was high quality and absolutely delicious! This was my first time here and I would love to come back and have dinner again to try their normal menu. The environment was beautiful and I enjoyed being in that space. They kept up with a busy afternoon and kept everything feeling clean. I loved it and am thankful for the hard work that these people put into making Thanksgiving special for everyone, for free of cost.

Our group of 4 ate here before attending the Mansfield Symphony. We couldn't get reservations but chanced it and went anyway. We were seated at the bar which was fine. Our server/bar tender was attentive and the food was good. We like the Minced Chicken appetizer. I enjoyed the Gang Bang Chicken. No complaints from any in our group. It's pricey, but we knew that going in.

We had a wonderful meal and service, as usual! Our server, Amber, was so helpful recommending choices, as I have a gluten allergy. I had the pad Thai with chicken with a side of hot Chinese mustard and chili crisp. Highly recommend a side a chili crisp to heighten the taste of anything! Love when we get to meet the owner, Dan Lew! Highly recommend DLX for atmosphere, food, and outstanding service!

The place is pretty but complex and a little confusing. The menu is very diverse and I was (wrongly) sure that that many cuisine types couldn't be good. BUT I was wrong! My cocktail was "meh" but my wine and meal were excellent. The waitress was stellar. I'd recommend for a fun, unusual time!

The food was phenomenal. My fiance and I had the crab rangoons and the pork belly for appetizers and they were just delicious. The main courses were great as well. The wait staff was super nice and made sure we had everything we needed.
Andrew B — Google review
The food is very uninspired. Staples to this cuisine should be on point but here they just aren't. The fried rice is terrible and the lo mein isn't much better. If you go here stick to the sushi and appetizers, the entrees aren't worth a try. Appetizer portions are weird here too, order pot stickers and you get 4 or 5. Order the dynamite shrimp appetizer and they give you about a dozen shrimp.Last time I checked shrimp was a higher cost protein than pork. So order the shrimp? Not so fast, sure if you like them with a soggy breading covered in too much sauce. I think Dan needs to spend some time eating his own food and make the necessary revisions. If this is what he intended from his kitchen he must have low standards.

City Grille is a laid-back and spacious bar and eatery that offers a variety of classic pub food such as pizza, burgers, pierogis, kielbasa, and more. The menu has plenty of options for vegetarians as well. Visitors have praised the attentive and friendly service at this establishment. The drink menu is also highlighted as being great with many draft beers available.
I was immediately greeted and seated upon entering. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the hamburger with pepper jack cheese and fries. The burger was fantastic. Prepared wonderfully and both orders came out in a little under ten minutes. A little expensive but I'd say good value for what you get. The atmosphere was not bad but nothing amazing either.

I rated this only a 4 as the food was a little salty. The pizza was delicious but seemed to have more of a salty taste. We had extra cheese, pepperoni, sausage so they may have been the reason. However the sauce and crust were perfection. The cheese curds and French fries had more of a salty taste as well. (I'm not a person who is afraid to salt my food either. ) Katelyn was our waitress and she was AMAZING! we never had to want for anything. She was making sure our table of 5 was always taken care of. She was very personable too. She even made things right for a misunderstanding between the two of us. I commended her on her service and being so attentive. Sandwiches were delicious as well. We will be back as their are other options for meals we would like to try.

Lovely pub just a block from the carousel! Had great service and it was a pleasant atmosphere. We got the fried mushrooms, spinach dip with pita chips, Italian sub and fries. The mushrooms were good but be careful they are hot! Artichoke dip was good but the pita chips were chewy. Italian sub was very underwhelming....would not order it again. Kind of a glorified lunch meat sandwich. Fries were good with salt and vinegar. Service was kind and attentive.

Mixed bag here. Ordered lunch, and got a cheese steak and fries. Before getting into the food though, it must be mentioned about the restaurant itself. It just reaked of sewage. When I first walked in I thought someone might have gotten sick. But after waiting to get my pickup order, I realized it was actually the scent of sewage. Really gross. Granted, I'm sure it isn't a permanent issue. But considering it's my first time ordering food here, I don't know. Thankfully I took my food home and ate in the clean air of my living room. The cheese steak was pretty good. Nice melty cheese, steak was cooked well, and the bun was toasted just right. It could have used more seasoning though. Just lacked a bit of flavor. The fries were fresh cut style, and on the thinner side. I loved them. The only issue is they weren't seasoned at all. Not even some basic salt. All in all, the food was fine. But for the nearly $16 I spent, I would expect something more. Just salting the fries would have made a difference. But when you factor in the stench of the place, I can't give a very high review. I will go back in the future to give it a second chance. But as far as a first impression goes, not the best.

Overall everything about this place was 5 stars. The food, the service, and the pricing tops it off. Definitely a must go if you're going through Mansfield around lunch or dinner time!

Sitting down eating a meal here feels like a warm hug. The wait staff is attentive and accommodating. The good was superb! I ordered the 8oz Sirloin medium, corn and fries. 9/10 recommend

Really cool spot... Had a grilled chicken salad, potstickers and Mac and cheese bites... Very reasonably priced and very friendly staff.

Love the old charm ,but my pulled pork sandwich was a disappointment. My friend liked her chicken wrap

Porky's Drive In is a nostalgic eatery in Mansfield that serves tasty burgers, delicious sandwiches, and satisfying milkshakes. The cozy joint has a unique ambiance and has been consistent in delivering excellent food for over 20 years. It offers an experience that brings back fond memories and allows customers to enjoy their meals while reminiscing about the past. A local recommended this charming establishment, praising its delectable burgers, hand-cut fries, and retro vibe.
I love the decor. Reminds me of the pictures of my dad hanging out at drive-ins like this. The food was terrific and filling. I got the shrimp basket with fresh cut fries and I'm a shrimp eater but I almost didn't finish because there was so much fonod. I love rootbeer and their homemade root beer is spectacular. It's a nice little place to get some great food.

Great place frozen in time. The food was wonderful, the smash burger was incredible. The house cut fries were exceptional. What surprised me the most was having Homemade Rootbeer. It was so tasty, worth driving back for the soda alone. If I'm ever in the area again this is a must stop.

Pleasant experience getting lunch here today. I called in to place an order by phone and a lady answered promptly and was very polite to talk with. Sounds odd to point that out, but I order by phone a lot and I've had my fair share of bad experiences. Got there and my food had just been finished. I was expecting this to be a hole in the wall bar from the type of building it is on the outside. It's not though. It's a nice little diner with a handful of booths and a counter to sit at. It's a quaint, but nice, little place. I ordered the shrimp basket with fries. With tax and all the total order came to a little over $11. That's a reasonable price for the amount of food you get. The shrimp themselves are small, but you get a lot of them. They don't have a lot of flavor, but I'm in Central/Northern Ohio. Seafood is typically not a local Ohio diner's strong point. So I'm not gonna be too particular on the shrimp. The breading on the shrimp though was really good. Nice crunch and tasty. That helped to make up for the shrimp themselves being a bit bland. And the cocktail sauce was solid. It looked like it might be made in house. If anyone from Porky's reads this, I'd love to know if the cocktail sauce is made there or if they just buy it. The fries were fair style fries. Lot of flavor, limp, greasy, DELICIOUS! :-D Make sure to put salt and ketchup on the fries though. All in all, I'm happy with my lunch today. I'll go back for a burger at some point in time. I expect those to be of even better quality since it's easier to get fresh beef in Ohio.

One of my all time favorite spots for a cheeseburger. No-nonsense type of a burger. If i am in the area it tempts me every time.

Don't skip this amazing little diner!!! The best Sammie's in Mansfield and the fries taste just like you got them at the fair. Everything is cooked to perfection and the staff is absolutely wonderful! You will never leave this place unhappy. This is where you go after a really hard day to just get something to eat that will put a smile on your face! Thank you for such an amazing experience any time I stop in! You guys are the best!!! 10/10 would recommend!!!! Support local business 💜

Landmark tiny restaurant with comfort fast food that's better than you expect. Porky's has really been here a long time with classically good burgers, hot dogs, and homemade root beer! Nostalgic for locals. First time for me here. I liked the bar b que pork sandwich, and my family loved the burger (highly recommended) and hot dog with good homemade rootbeer. A bit slow service, but nice server/cook. CAR SERVICE FOR FOOD available on the side parking lot by side door near building of restaurant! It really is a drive in restaurant! (Restroom is extremely small, outdated, and basic, essential when needed.) Many old time photos, momentos, and items for sale. If you find yourself in Mansfield, I suggest you go here for the experience.

The food, good except the fries were sort of soggy. The service was fine and very pleasant. The atmosphere needs a lot of help. The bench seat that I sat in was terribly uncomfortable. The center counter looks like it's just about to fall down as the one leg is really kicked out, there is water damage to the ceiling and the bathroom doors have obviously been damaged by water and need replaced. I doubt that I'll be back.

Small Mom & Pop places like this are always special! The fries are hand cut, the burgers are smashed & crispy around the edges… I would take a Porky’s any day over a big box chain. We will eat here again!
