Motobu-cho in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Motobu-cho, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Motobu-cho is best known for the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and the surrounding Ocean Expo Park, where you can learn about marine life and Ryukyu history in one coastal area. The town offers easy access to beaches such as Emerald Beach and Sesoko Island, popular for swimming, snorkeling, and sunset views. From Motobu’s capes and hilltops you can see nearby islands like Ie-jima, and the area serves as a convenient base for exploring the less-developed northern part of Okinawa Island.
With favorites like Ufuya, Ocean View Restaurant Inoh, and Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Ocean View Restaurant Inoh and The Orion Hotel Motobu Resort & Spa ”Sirius” so you can get the best taste of Motobu-cho while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, situated within the Okinawa Ocean Expo Park, is among the world's largest aquariums. Originally established for the 1975 world fair, this area underwent redevelopment to boost tourism. The Churaumi Aquarium, which opened in 2002, replaced an existing smaller aquarium. The park also hosts events like the Cherry Blossoms Festival and Flower Festa.
I visited Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and found it absolutely worth seeing. The highlight for me was the massive manta rays gracefully gliding through the water—truly spectacular and mesmerizing. As for the whale sharks, they didn’t impress me as much because I’ve previously swum with whale sharks in Cebu, but first-time visitors would still find them impressive. The aquarium features a wide variety of unique and unusual marine creatures, making the visit both surprising and educational. It’s a great experience for anyone interested in marine life. The only downside was the aquarium’s restaurant, where the food was mediocre and overpriced, but this didn’t significantly affect the overall experience. Overall, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a must-visit spot in Okinawa. Whether you’re with family, friends, or alone, it offers a wonderful opportunity to get up close with marine creatures. The manta ray display, in particular, is truly unforgettable.
Niel J — Google review
I am not a fan of aquarium but this was amazing. Highlights of this aquarium is the whale shark and the manta ray. It is a magnificent view! There are a lot of interesting fishes and sea mammals I have never seen before. Worth a visit. Admission tickets are available on site and I think going on weekdays is better. Not too crowded. Parking is a little distance away from the aquarium. There is no direct parking there.
Lydia K — Google review
A good visit if you have the time. I was most impressed by the variety of species they have and, of course, the whale shark. We went on a Friday and it was PACKED though we didn’t need to purchase tickets ahead of time. There was a lot of patience practised with waiting turns to see some of the exhibits. Would definitely get there first thing to avoid crowds. Lots of bathrooms throughout and in October there were many food trucks at the exit.
Christine R — Google review
Highly recommended! This aquarium is suitable for all ages, with an abundance of marine life and a well-planned visitor flow. You can see the famous whale shark here, and parking is super convenient! I recommend parking in P7; it's close to the entrance and has shade.
KE-HAO C — Google review
The wait to get into the parkade probably took 30mins, wife got tickets online while waiting so we didn't have to wait in line for tickets. If you're hungry, the lunch buffet is pretty decent, good variety. The cafe inside the aquarium is very busy and packed, when we went there was some food trucks as well but it was raining. The aquarium itself was great, very informative, very cool, and lots of variety. A lot more time to see the rest of expo park with the dolphins, the show, the sea turtles, the cultural area, observatory, beach, etc. we spent 2 hrs just inside the aquarium
Julian L — Google review
Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa was absolutely amazing. The massive Kuroshio tank with whale sharks and manta rays was breathtaking — it felt like watching the ocean come alive right in front of you. The layout is easy to explore, and the exhibits are beautifully designed to show Okinawa’s unique marine life. The dolphin show and outdoor sea area were also great for families. Definitely one of the best aquariums in the world and a must-visit spot in Okinawa.
Masaki K — Google review
I found the Okinawa Aquarium very educational. I especially liked the section where they used red LED lights on models to show which parts of certain sea creatures are dangerous, along with the real species beside them. The viewing deck was spacious, and we got to watch the dolphin show too. I went on a Saturday and the crowd was okay, still comfortable to move around and view all the exhibits.
Winky C — Google review
Far and away the best aquarium I've ever seen. So many amazing tanks including the biggest one in the world with a whale shark. Mesmerisng. Such a cheap price to see a major world class sight - it would be 5X that in Europe. With zoos, you worry if the space is sufficient for some of the animals but with fish so I don't think it's a concern. This place is clearly doing serious conservation research so you are supporting a good thing. Take your time and savour each creature and every tank.

Ocean Expo Park

National park
Ocean Expo Park is a popular tourist destination in Okinawa, Japan. It features the impressive Churaumi Aquarium, which is one of the largest aquariums in the world. The park also boasts a beautiful beach, lush botanical gardens, and an open-air museum showcasing Okinawan culture. Originally developed for the 1975 world fair, the area underwent redevelopment to attract tourism after years of limited use following the fair.
The place is very big. Have theatre for dolphins show. Have turtle SANCTUARY, Manatee Sanctuary, nice beach for chill out. And Very impressed with the whale shark swimming in the aquarium. It's been there for 30 years. The aquarium is informative. Many sea creatures as well. Worth for a visit. Remember to watch the dolphins show.
Desmond L — Google review
Generally good but too many facilities and spaces are now barred. The other side of the park has few people to visit and I would really love to see more kinds of sea creatures here! Also a bit too crowded :(
Felix Y — Google review
This is undoubtedly one of the best aquariums on the island and a must-see whether you're stationed here long-term or just visiting. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed, offering an engaging and educational look at a wide variety of marine life—including some truly rare and awe-inspiring species. Keep in mind, it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends and holidays, so I highly recommend arriving early to avoid the rush and enjoy a more relaxed experience. There’s ample parking available, but be prepared for a fair amount of walking throughout the facility—comfortable shoes are a good idea.
Abigail M — Google review
I really love this place, there is a lot of special creatures, unfortunately I missed the dolphin show, but I still have a great time to watch sea turtles and all sorts of marine creatures. If I live here, I’ll probably buy the annual pass.
Anson — Google review
The indoor aquarium is very impressive, but I found the manatee and sea turtle pools very sad to look at, no vegetation, no toys, some were lucky to have a rock.
Jonáš S — Google review
Relaxing, enjoyable, beautiful, and the sea life was great - especially if you like sharks and dolphins. Very affordable. Plenty to do for free. Plenty of parking.
Will S — Google review
Love this place! A must see in Okinawa. Expect to spend a few hours here and be immersed in all the marine and underwater life without going to the water.
Cindy G — Google review
Large park with several excellent facilities, including a huge aquarium, beach, and botanical garden. However, some areas need improvement, such as the turtle tanks, which are small, unsanitary, and overall quite sad.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Nestled within the stunning Ocean Expo Park, Okichan Theatre is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the magic of marine life. This enduring aquarium showcases impressive large tanks filled with vibrant coral and majestic whale sharks, creating an enchanting backdrop for visitors. The highlight here is undoubtedly the outdoor dolphin shows featuring Oki-chan and her playful companions. These delightful performances include high jumps and dance routines that captivate audiences of all ages against the picturesque setting of the East China Sea and Ie Island.
The show is included in the aquarium entry ticket so I recommend watching if you’re there and have the time! It was really fun and entertaining, but it wasn’t very long. But I still enjoyed it a lot!
Helena W — Google review
I have not watched a dolphin show in years mainly because I do not support in capturing wildlife just for the sake of human entertainment. But I have to admit that it is always exciting to see such beautiful creatures appearing in front of you. I was only able to see the last few seconds of the show and I still hope that one day the dolphins would be able to return their real home.
Kero C — Google review
The dolphins show was amazing. Very funny and fantastic performance. Must watch this show if u r visiting the Churaumi aquarium.
Desmond L — Google review
No admission ticket required, very good aquarium as having different stages for performance, young crew and young dolphins added dynamics, Seaview with breeze, good shading, extra ordinary performance.
Fcpsutpn S — Google review
Dolphin shows are always fun to watch! No umbrellas so choose your seat wisely, out of he sun and rain. Most of the seating is covered. Once the show starts they will not let you in if there's no room to sit/stand.
Brandon W — Google review
All wet! They should really provide more explanations when asking people to sit nearby, especially since we think there could be opportunities for feeding and interacting with dolphins. Most of us are tourists and families! I saw kids crying crazily after the show because they got wet unexpectedly.
Gladys K — Google review
Great and funny dolphin show! Was very enjoyable to watch. The dolphin instructors put on a great show! They make the dolpins do all kinds of different tricks!
Robin A — Google review
Poor animals. So sad that they have to live in these small tanks. In this way, people are misinformed about the natural behaviour and habitat of these animals. Animals were showing a lot of stereotypical behaviour, which means they are stressed.

Outdoor Activities
Kokuei Okinawakinenkoen Emerald Beach is a national park that was established in 1976 on the site of the Okinawa International Ocean Expo. It serves as a central attraction for Okinawa tourism, showcasing the region's beauty under the theme of 'Sun, Flower and Sea.' The park features various facilities including the renowned Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Tropical Dream Center, Oceanic Culture Museum, and a dolphin show facility.
It’s called emerald beach and I know why it’s named like this. The color of water is as clear ad emerald. It was a bit cloudy when I got there but I’m sure when it’s sunny bright day the beach will shine like a jewel and clear green emerald.
June L — Google review
This is the best beach I have ever been to. Crystal clear water, and swimming area with jellyfish nets. There are free cold showers and paid hot water showers with changing facilities.
Hitesh G — Google review
Nice artificial made beach, but it is nothing special. A lot of lifeguards, actually too much… water is shallow with max. 2m at the buoys…. but ok, safety first. Not crowded, empty on Sunday in July. Water is clean.
Tomas J — Google review
What a beautiful beach!! The water was clear and the beach wasn’t crowded. No snorkelling, which is actually good if you want to enjoy a nice swim without bumping into anyone (although the snorkelling in Okinawa is amazing!). We had access as we stayed in the condos just up the street, but the hotel was beautiful from what I saw.
Jill C — Google review
This is my most disappointing experience in Okinawa. I drove 2 hours from Naha to find out that the beach is closed today. Why? The reason is not announced on the loudspeaker or in the announcements, and there is no information on the website. It is October 23, 3 p.m., and the weather is beautiful and sunny, with no rain or waves. WHY???? It is frustrating, especially since they did not even provide a reason.
Анастасия Г — Google review
It's nice but honestly very disappointing given the excessive control of so many guards, the amount of concrete spoiling the feeling of being in nature and the constant sounds of communication by the megafons leaving a vibe you're in a train station in Tokyo. It must be nicer if you are with young kids though, like a water park.
Bruno C — Google review
Lovely beach. Clean and clear water. Life guards are plentiful and very attentive. Unfortunately no warm shower, only very cold water and the changing/ shower area is very basic and quite poor but working condition. Snack stall has very basic food, drinks and icecream and you can rent beach chairs, umbrella and floats. You can also use the free pump for your inflatable at the shop.
Elizabeth Q — Google review
Damn good beach for young children. Older folk looking for more adventure or snorkeling or fish might be disappointed, but for young children looking for a safe place to enjoy the sea sand and sun, this is it! Infrastructure is acceptable for public beach though. The male shower was good. I heard the female toilet and shower was a disaster though, so be mindful of that!

Scenic spot
Bisezaki is a popular destination known for its scenic views and shallow waters, making it perfect for snorkeling among tropical fish. Visitors can rent bicycles to cycle to the northern tip of the peninsula, where the water is shallow and blue. This spot is ideal for families and beginner snorkelers as the snorkeling spots are easily accessible, especially during low tide.
Dropped by for half an hour to admire the scenery of this small, quiet but beautiful beach. The water is very clear as well. Unfortunately did not have the time to do some snorkeling here, which is a popular activity and there is even a shop that rents snorkeling equipment here. Do note that parking here costs 500 yen per entry. Visited in September 2024.
Paul C — Google review
Clear water with coral & colorful fishes. Safe plc for snorkeling. Short walk fr cp entrance, 1d parking @300¥. Walk thr 2km of tree to reach the beach.
Chin N — Google review
Beautiful and so crystal clear water~ I wish I could walk down this beach every day. You can have a good chance to see the cute little tropical fish even though you don’t get into the water cause water is so clear.
June L — Google review
We srarted to enter and had look around from left hand side, good snokeling spot but pretty strong currents so we swam to the right hand side. Mich calmer. Few big fish, small tropical fish and coral. Really enjoyed it.
Kei A — Google review
The beach is rocky so bring water shoes, also bring a snorkel gear. There is a slope of stairs to reach the beach, lots of coarl and sea shells 🐚 around. This beach is hidden away so it a drive out. Amazing sunset views. There are restrooms and showers near by. Bring your own lunch and drinks. Some small restaurants around but not much options.
Nancy R — Google review
There is a 500 yen parking fee but not really much to do in the area. Better views over at the Ocean Park where you get loads of free parking and the emerald beach over there is much more beautiful
Fiona S — Google review
It was a little shallow, but you can see a lot of fish and corals. Still, bring your swimming shoes and be aware of sea urchins and stonefish.
Hojoon C — Google review
My first snorkeling 🤿 session. The water is crystal clear. Given this was my first time difficult for me to compare so let me keep things objective. Clear water, with quite a bit of colorful fishes to see. Rental gear available nearby.

Buffet restaurant
Ocean View Restaurant Inoh offers a unique dining experience with its Okinawan cuisine and stunning view of the East China Sea. Located on the fourth floor of an aquarium, it provides direct access without entering the main attraction. The buffet-style meals are reasonably priced and include a variety of dishes, making it family-friendly. While some visitors found the food options limited during their visit, others appreciated the well-cooked selections and helpful service.
There is a buffet here with many food choices. The delicious taste and the beautiful ocean view are really good.

Yeah. The worst 😂 all you can eat you can get. Ocean view is nice but anything else not worth mentioning 😉
Daniel S — Google review
I can totally understand why this restaurant only get 3.6. The food is just OK for the price, service is normal. And there are a lot of people here, most of them are very hungry and have no choice but to eat here. So maybe more kind of food will be much better.
Xie B — Google review
Beautiful view lunch buffet (22k Y for adults and 11k Y for kids under 12). Food was ok. The highlight is the dairy free ice cream for our allergic kids. There was no fresh fruit. Some veggies but limited. Meats are mostly fried. Only one fish dish that was battered and fried. Need healthier choices. Good selection of juices. Limited coffee choices. Excellent view.
David E — Google review
Just a simple buffet at the aquarium. You cannot expect the food too much. The view is gorgeous even if it’s cloudy.
Lexie L — Google review
Instead of calling it a lunch buffet (which sets a certain level of expectation) perhaps calling it self-serve cafeteria food would be more appropriate 😝 Seems like only the curry/rice, soup, DIY Okinawa soba and coffee/tea are warm/hot; the rest are cooled/cold. Very family/kid friendly food types so it gets 2.5 stars. Overall 4 stars coz the view is fantastic!! (Avoid peak periods. We came in at the tail-end of busy lunch service (around 12:30) and it was a bit noisy and chaotic. After 1,1.15pm, the crowd thinned and the mood turns nice and enjoyable.
Marggie — Google review
The food options when I went wasn't great ( might be due to corona and less customers) but the food was good, and reasonably priced for a restaurant in a aquarium. If you get a window seat the view is nice.

Great view. Convenient location during a visit to the aquarium. Staff is efficient. The range of good is limited, and the quality is just ok. Coffee is passable. Reasonable price for a "tourist trap" restaurant.

Hotel Orion Motobu Resort & Spa Sirius offers a delightful dining experience at its restaurant, SIRIUS. The elegant and well-maintained dining area provides a wide variety of dishes with excellent quality and presentation. Despite the initial impression of a limited selection for lunch, the food is highly recommended for its taste and value. Guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the superb view from the restaurant's windows. The spacious layout allows for comfortable dining, ensuring a pleasant experience under current circumstances.
Not those huge scale buffet. SIRIUS is truly elegant and neat. Each area is well prepared and maintained through out the dining time. It's a bless to enjoy the superb window view while you eat. Probably the best meal we had in Okinawa.

Food selection for lunch is much less than breakfast. We enjoyed breakfast so much so we decide to ask for one hour late checkout in order to have lunch in the hotel. Too bad! Not worth to waste our side see schedule and stayed for that lunch. By the way, forgot to take picture while having lunch in the restaurant at first floor of this hotel. Sharing a photo from our hotel room at 7 floor.

(Translated by Google) Is this price reasonable? 90-minute lunch buffet: ¥3,500 → ¥3,100 with Churatoku. It may be a little pricey for lunch. But with prices going up everywhere, it doesn't seem particularly expensive anymore. 💦 I used to come here for lunch a few times before it changed its name to Orion, and everything is still delicious. I think it's even better than other hotel buffets. And while they called it a meat fair the day I went, it seemed like there weren't any meat options other than spare ribs! Isn't the menu a little underwhelming? But the other dishes are delicious too. The savory dishes are great, but the sweets are a bit... They all look and taste the same everywhere. It almost feels like they're just selling pre-made food. The customer service is simply excellent. The view is beautiful, the service is pleasant, and the food is delicious, so it feels like good value for the price.

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Fukugiya is a cozy restaurant located near Emerald Beach and the aquarium, offering delicious local favorites such as Okinawa soba and taco rice. The tofu soup with wok hei flavor and the yaki soba with generous portions of vegetables and spam are highly recommended. The staff is accommodating, able to prepare vegetarian dishes upon request. Outside the restaurant, visitors can enjoy a scenic walk along Fukugi lined trees with views of Ie Island.
Chanced upon this place while googling what to have for lunch after the aquarium visit and it’s a really good find. We ordered the bitter melon, yakisoba, and taco rice. The bitter melon in Okinawa is not bitter and it’s tasty and crunchy. Yakisoba was amazing if you are a fan of vegetables. Taco rice is another must try too. Rating 5 stars as the portion is huge and service is good. Place can be a little crowded as it’s not very big and free parking is very limited.

Fukugiya Restaurant, conveniently located near the aquarium, offers tasty Okinawa-style soba. In my experience trying various highly-rated options, this was the best. The pork rib meat was notably tender, even more so than the pork belly. The soup was rich and flavorful without being overly salty, and the fish cake and noodles were also delicious. The stir-fried bitter gourd with egg and tofu was another highlight; the ingredients tasted fresh and were well prepared. I highly recommend this restaurant for a satisfying lunch. The restaurant has a limited number of parking spaces; surrounding parking lots require payment. Please note that Fukugiya only accepts cash and opened till 2:30pm on the day that I visited, so it's advisable to check their operating hours before your visit.

See what I'd ordered in the photo, the tofu was very good with a rich tofu taste, is a must try. For the price, this bowl of soba is definitely good value.

Great way to end your little walk in the Bise-Fukugi Tree path. The bitter gourd chanpuru and Okinawan soba are great.

We were looking for vegetarian food and this place had a Yasai Chanpuru (Okinawan vegetable stir fry) and they were happy to leave the meat out. It was very tasty, mugi cha was free, excellent after a morning of snorkeling.

Somehow the tofu soup had wok hei (lightly charred taste)! Probably the tofu was lightly stir fried with egg, before immersion into the pork-based broth. The yaki soba was also delicious. Huge portion with loads of vegetables and spam. Yum! For more details, visit 2bearbear today!

Shabu-shabu restaurant
"古民家の宿・お食事 ちゃんや~" is a charming countryside retreat nestled in a serene woodland setting. The casual restaurant offers delectable dishes such as grill pork (agu pork) and shabu shabu pork, complemented by delightful starter options. While the location may be a bit challenging to find, especially at night, the homely ambiance and warm hospitality make it worth the effort.
The grill pork (agu pork) and shabu shabu pork together wirh starter dishes are really nice. Homely ambience. We ordered both and enjoyed it. A place difficult to find if you have not walked the Bise Fukugi Tree road especially at night for a foreigner like me who don't know Japanese. Got to trust Google map to take us there.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Nago Pineapple Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Nakijin Castle Ruins. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nago Pineapple Park is a delightful theme park that immerses visitors in the fascinating world of pineapple cultivation. Here, you can embark on engaging tours and savor delicious tastings, all while enjoying the lush surroundings. The park also features a charming café and a gift shop where you can find unique souvenirs to remember your visit. Nestled in Okinawa's stunning West Coast region, known for its breathtaking beaches and luxurious resorts, this area offers an extraordinary atmosphere reminiscent of tropical getaways abroad.
I kept hearing about pineapple park from various different people so I decided to finally go and visit. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I was not disappointed by any means. I never knew there were so many different types of pineapples and what could be done with them. There were so many different baked goods and drinks with pineapple in them. The cakes are soft and moist and go well with a cup of coffee. The brewery and distillery was the most modern part of the park. The wine is amazing and I definitely recommend getting a bottle or two.

I personally loved this, obviously if you go you can’t take yourself or the park too seriously because it’s a park mixed with pineapples and dinosaurs. It is pretty small so you only need like 2hours if you are stopping and enjoying any of the pineapple treats, maybe like 1 hour if you don’t. I walked up around 4pm and didn’t have to wait in line to get in and there wasn’t many people so I’m not certain how busy this place could get. There are three places they automatically take photos in the pineapple section and yes I bought one for 1000¥, it has classic theme park photo vibes and I love it. I kind of wish I did the dinosaur photos simply for the last photo area, but f you grab a piece of paper from where they sell the pineapple photos there are three areas you scan it and it will take a photo of you. There are a few stops along the way with pineapple food. The first place I had the pineapple float and it was good but not what I would consider amazing. The second area I had a pineapple skewer and I had a perfectly ripe piece of pineapple that was so juicy and sweet that I definitely recommend having one. The next areas were the gifts shops where they give free samples of the items they sell and I would have bought the pineapple cake for my dad if only the best before date was a little longer, unfortunately it was short by a couple days, but I got the cookies I was able to try. After this is the wine room which was my favorite, I think you can have small samples of the wine but I didn’t do that. I went for the 1000¥ wine tasting of three of the wines, my favorite was the red dessert style wine. Over all very enjoyable theme park and if my family ever joins me on a visit to Okinawa I will definitely recommend this
Monica W — Google review
A cute place and definitely fun for kids, but not really exciting for adults. The pineapple theme is everywhere and the self-driving cart is a nice idea, but overall it feels more like a children’s attraction than a real sightseeing spot. Good for families, but you can skip it if you’re traveling alone or as a couple.
Ricardo S — Google review
Had an absolute ball! Brought my parents here. Got on the train, multiple photo opportunities. Walked through garden areas ABSOLUTELY LOVED The butterfly area! The dinosaurs are cool. Follow the signs that say “route” and you’ll get to see the whole place don’t get confused by the exit/ route signs. The very end will be through the area you can actually buy wine and other juices and cookies! It’s a really great little place!

This place is an absolute fever dream. If you’ve ever thought ‘I wish there was a place where I could see dinosaur animatronics while trying 5 types of pineapple ice cream’.. PINEAPPLE PARK IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! From a shockingly high quality botanical garden to an upscale pineapple bar, pineapple park will not disappoint. This was one of our most memorable spots on our Okinawa trip.
Hannah D — Google review
Was awesome to visit again (last visit 2010) and experience it with my kids this time. The wine and sweets were as good as I remember them. I liked that it had been added to and wasnt as busy as the other places we had visited.
Brittney P — Google review
We went as four adults. While I am certain this place would appeal especially to adults, we had an awesome time! So much fun. They provided English information, which was helpful. Seeing the pineapples growing everywhere was delightful. Make sure to check out the butterflies and to sample the snacks and liquor. I especially enjoyed the dry pineapple sparkling win. We bought a few kinds of wine and a beautiful cake! We ate in the restaurant and the food was great. Unfortunately I didn’t take many pictures!!

We came here with no expectations and were blown away! If you’re looking for something that is unique and charming, look no further. The production value for 1500 yen is insane considering we got a tour of the pineapple farm on a pineapple train, an automated pineapple buggy ride through a dinosaur forest, and a walking tour of animatronic PINEAPPLE THEMED DINOSAURS!! Super cute how everything kept to the pineapple theme. Not to mention the pineapple popsicles are very refreshing and delicious. Highly recommend for some jolly good fun!

Okinawa Fruits Land is a delightful family-friendly destination that invites visitors, especially children, to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of tropical fruits native to Okinawa. This unique attraction offers an engaging experience through interactive games and puzzles that educate young minds about local produce. Beyond the fruit-filled adventures, guests can also enjoy interactions with adorable animals like parrots and goats, making it a perfect spot for animal lovers.

Nice place to go with kids to learn about tropical fruits. It is a large place, your kids can do physical activities like ringing bells or walking a long. You may be able to get discount coupons for lunch buffet.
Huyen V — Google review
Didn't have kids with us but I still had a blast to go with a group of young adults. It was a fun interactive educational experience. We were learning about the many different kinds of fruits, most of which, we didn't even know existed. The attractions are in multiple languages so everyone can still read it and have fun, though the stamp machines were mainly in English. Which were really cool to find and use. I can see how it would be bad to wait in line to use them though. It's just a cutesy cheesy experience for us going without kids but I still think it's worth it for the first time. Maybe not multiple visits since the magic of the surprises would be gone. The giftshop at the end gives you a free pin for going through as well. Their snow cones are really great and are served with a scoop of ice cream too.

A fairy themed farm combining various fruit trees. It’s not a high tech theme park but instead they use simple mechanisms for hiding clues and turn it into a fun experience for kids. The main attraction is to see so many varieties of fruit trees from all over the world. There are no bathroom in the course so it’s recommended to use it at theme parks souvenir store next to the entrance. The bathroom design was interesting with a bookshelf wallpaper at the entrance and colored themes.

This was so cute! It seemed like it was more aimed at children, but even as adults we enjoyed it a lot. It was also a longer experience than expected. Yaedake Sakuranomori Park

Park
Yaedake Sakuranomori Park is a stunning park located on the slopes of Mount Yae, known for its early spring cherry blossoms. The park hosts the Yae-dake Cherry Blossom Festival and boasts over 7,000 sakura trees lining the mountain road. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant kanhi sakura blossoms from late January through February, attracting numerous flower-viewing enthusiasts.
When I went, only a few cherry blossoms had bloomed. I believe it would be very beautiful when all the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. There is a pathway called the Cherry Blossom Trail lined with cherry blossom trees, but I think it may not be suitable for the elderly due to the somewhat high steps.
NI — Google review
We missed the peak week by a week, so most of the flowers were gone. It's a lovely park with a playground for kids, a pagoda for rest, and a winding trail on the side of the hill which I'm sure was beautiful during the peak Sakura blossom.
Ray — Google review
Great place to admire the bloomed sakura trees! As of Jan 24th, they are almost in full bloom. Truly beautiful. Also, until feb 2nd there’s a free shuttle service from motobu town tourism association up to the park. It was very convenient for us!

Very worth the drive to visit the cherry blossoms (Sakura). We went on a weekday so wasn’t that crowded. I believe during weekends should be super crowded.
Bruce B — Google review
What a spectacular park! There were so many gorgeous Sakura trees in bloom and the Cherry Blossom festival was a big hit. I didn’t expect there to be so many cherry blossom trees or for there to be beautiful trails lined with them. I was in my glory walking through the woods and listening to the chatter of birds along the way. I thought the grounds were well kept with plenty of parking to accommodate such a popular festival. There were stands with food & drinks available and so many photo opportunities. It was lovely seeing all the families and couples enjoying the afternoon surrounded by beauty. There was also a very large playground for children to enjoy and areas to enjoy a picnic. I would definitely recommend taking the drive to see such a pretty park nestled in nature and to visit while the Sakura Festival is happening for an extraordinary experience!
Desiree M — Google review
We were pleasantly surprised at the abundance of cherry blossoms at the park. It was very busy but they had people directing traffic which was great, and there were stalls with food, drinks and games. Plus the park had a playground so it's great for families to visit.

A great sight seeing trip from southern Okinawa. We took the drive up and enjoyed the oceanfront views and quieter pace of life in the northern Nago area. The roads get to be quite narrow on the climb up the mountain, but it's worth it even on a busy day. Our trip was a little early to catch most of the blooms, but they have a very nice park, some hiking trails, and lots of little booths for foods.
Jerry B — Google review
We were here about 5 days after the cherry blossom festival, and the sakura were still beautiful. The slide and playground here were very nice. This is a place we would certainly visit again.

Restaurant
Kishimoto Shokudo is a must-visit for an authentic traditional Okinawa Soba experience. Despite the small size and inevitable waiting time, it's renowned as one of the essential spots on the island for genuine Okinawa Soba. The homemade noodles are firm and flavorful, complemented by sweet pork and savory, salty soup. The addition of chili-soaked awamori transforms the taste entirely. With a limited menu but fast service, this restaurant fills up quickly after opening.
I loved the soup because it had a strong bonito flavor. The taste was good and more unique than that of other shops. I felt Okinawa-style noodles are similar everywhere. However, Kishimoto stands out from other shops. Kishimoto has been open for a long time possibly before I was born. They have many autographs by celebrities on the wall. I saw the one written over 20 years ago, but I also saw the one only one week before we came.

A fun Okinawan noodle experience. We got in at 3pm before a rush so didn't have to wait, but they had already sold out of the delicious looking mixed rice (disappointed!) The vibes were fun, the staff friendly, and the noodles were tasty. Cash only, a few designated parking spots outside.

After a long day at the beach, we stopped by this little cute family-owned spot to try their famous Okinawa soba with pork. It was absolutely delicious—the soup was perfect, and the pork was soft and tender! The prices were super reasonable, but make sure to bring cash because they only accept cash. We were lucky to arrive just before closing and ended up as the only customers, which made the experience feel very private and unique! The staff members were very nice and welcoming.

Found this place thru google reviews and decided to try since it's on the way to the aquarium. Went there around 4plus and the rice is sold out 😭😭😭 Meat is soft and tender. Broth is really tasty even till the last dropped. The noodles is smooth and silky but not soggy Recommend this place

There is limited parking across the street, and it was busy and hot! Payment is in cash, and one of their iced drinks ran out so we only had water. Of course you could always buy cold drinks from one of the vending machines. Go for the medium dish for 150 yen more.

전민식 — Google review
If you are looking for the best and most authentic traditional Okinawa Soba experience on the island, then look no further. Kishimoto Shokudo is 100% the place you should put on your bucket list for Okinawa Soba. For all those people complaining about the "waiting time", get over it. The shop is quite small and has had a line outside (even before opening) for years now as they are well known by everyone as one of the handful of quintessential spots on the island for REAL Okinawa Soba. My advice is to get there about 10 minutes before opening time and queue up with the rest of the folks (as they DO sell out daily). Check the hours, but the sign says Open at 11:00am and close at 5:30pm -- Fact is, I've rarely seen them open past 2-2:30pm... The soup base (tsuyu) is amazing -- but you should know that it is light, simple, and subtle. This is one of the major contributing factors that makes their Soba outstanding. If you are seeking something overly intense, you are really missing the point of Japanese Food and Okinawa Soba in general. A fine soup base shouldn't scream of flavor, but should just perfectly meld with the rest of the components as they do here. The noodles are a huge standout, as they are made freshly and following Okinawa tradition, the include a small amount of banyan tree ash that is used to define Okinawa Soba and gives the noodles a chewier textures while contributing to the dish flavor. Finally, the "sanmainiku" pork belly is spot on, simmered and braised for countless hours in a rather elaborate process that yields an outstanding tenderness of layers infused with just the right balance of soy sauce, sugar and Awamori. The menu options are very simple: Either the large bowl (そば大) or the small bowl (そば小) and if you would like an accompaniment, you should absolutely order the Okinawa Jyushi (ジューシー) Jyushi is a local only style rice dish (known as Takikomi Gohan throughout the rest of Japan) that gets it's flavors from a pork and dashi based stock cooked with small bits of carrots, pork, mushrooms and onions... It's a staple compliment to Okinawa Soba (Just like Ramen and Gyoza) and is the only other "must try" option on the menu. Otherwise, like any specialty shop in Japan, that's pretty much all you have in the way of options -- But, seriously after you've done Oki Soba here you will have conquered this dish and the rest of the island soba is pretty much just "meh" (save for a few other well known shops near Shuri).
Tony N — Google review
There was only 2 choices, small or big noodles and a bowl of rice. There was a short queue of 30minutes outside the shop. Service was fast once seated. Noodles tasted good, but average with no wow factor. Recommended if in the area.

Nakijin Castle Ruins, located in the northern part of Okinawa's main island, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a glimpse into the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom. Dating back to the 13th century, these ruins boast impressive castle walls and are known for their historical significance. The site provides insight into castle construction techniques of the time and showcases the power and authority of its former owner, the king of Hokuzan.
Our first tour in Okinawa. Our tour guide was amazing and well worth the cost. The castle grounds are beautiful and the walls are amazing. Don’t forget to go to the museum, too. Thank you to the staff. Very knowledgeable, professional and personable. Go early and avoid the crowds. When we arrived at there at 0900 and shared the castle with approx 10 people.

Visiting the Nakijin Castle Ruins was like stepping back in time. Perched on a hill in the northern part of Okinawa, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers not only a glimpse into Ryukyu history but also some of the most breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and sea. We arrived on a sunny morning and were immediately captivated by the expansive stone walls — rugged yet majestic, winding across the hillside like a fortress from another world. Walking along the ancient pathways, we could feel the energy of a bygone era. The ruins are beautifully preserved, and though there’s not much of the original wooden structures left, the foundations and stonework speak volumes. The atmosphere here is peaceful and spiritual. It’s easy to understand why this was once a sacred and strategic site. From the higher vantage points, we were rewarded with sweeping views of the East China Sea, lush greenery, and the remnants of the castle layout. There are helpful signboards with historical information, and the walk is manageable for most, though those with mobility issues might find some parts challenging due to uneven stone paths. Overall, Nakijin Castle Ruins was a highlight of our Okinawa trip — a perfect combination of culture, nature, and quiet reflection.

One of the 9 UNESCO cultural heritage sites in Okinawa. All the Okinawan castle ruins look very much the same so you could skip this one if you have visited other castles like Katsuren or Nakagusuku. The site is beautiful and is worth visiting if in the area for its views. Judging by other’s people’s photos this place is beautiful when visited during the cherry blossom season.

My first time having Okinawa soba and it was delicious. I usually never finish a bowl of ramen but I left a clean bowl here. The more-ish noodles reminded me of fresh fettuccini, the porky clear broth was clean and delicious and the slightly sweet chunks of lean pork loin were oh so tasty. I also picked up a bottle of the chili vinegar they sell. Highly recommend!

Really good local Okinawan soba with a good amount of food and floor space. The soba was tasty, but my gripe is the way they started charging more for the soba, but only if you use the non-Japanese languages in the electronic checkout. I’d been there before the electronic checkout was there and paid the normal price. But they don’t tell you the price change when you select English or Chinese or Korean. When I asked about it, they said “差別OK” and pointed me to my seat. It was only 200 difference, but they didn’t give it back and it soured the experience for me. So, if you go there, make sure to use the Japanese menu.

The traditional Okinawan atmosphere is immediately noticeable, both indoors and in the outdoor courtyard, making it a great spot for photos or simply relaxing. The food was quite good, especially dishes made with local ingredients. The flavors were fresh and portions reasonable, allowing you to enjoy both the cuisine and the cultural ambiance. The staff were friendly, making the overall dining experience very pleasant. Overall, Ufuyā is a restaurant that combines beautiful scenery with tasty food, perfect for travelers looking to relax in a mountain setting while enjoying a scenic garden.

The area was very Japanese, everything is very traditional and culturally nice. However, the food is nothing like “wow”. We cannot try their beef cause it sold out too fast online, and cannot order on the spot. Overall experience is okay!

We had some trouble making the reservation, but eventually manage to get one before we leave Okinawa. I am more impressed by the view, traditional buildings and garden than the food. The agu pork shabu shabu is decent and the noodles are really nice. We booked in for 19:30, but didn’t get started until 20:00. We were told last order at 20:15 and then we were rushing to finish the food before 21:00.

Definitely the best restaurant I’ve been to in Okinawa. We went there for a dinner at 5:30 pm, no reservation, and actually the staff was so helpful that we waited around 20min for a table instead of 1hour. I would definitely recommend to do a booking ahead of time. It’s really amazing atmosphere, beautiful garden, surrounded by traditional Okinawa houses kominkas and you can hear traditional music. Food was excellent, we took 1st choice premium selection of shabu shabu pork, and it was really tasty. It was way too much food for 2people so better come with empty stomach ;) Really, high quality waiters, beautiful atmosphere and local premium food.

This is our 4th visit to this restaurant, and the food remains exceptionally good. We made our dinner reservation on their website, which required us to pre-order the menu. We ordered two sets of beef shabu-shabu and three sets of GOKUJYO Agu's shabu-shabu. Each set included assorted appetizers, Agu dumplings, assorted vegetables, and noodles. The set dinner offers great value for money. Additionally, an à la carte menu is available on the spot if you are not full. The restaurant is located in a remote area, requiring a drive to reach it. Since our last visit, the restaurant has been renovated, featuring a larger parking lot and clearer driving directions. The parking lot is located at the hilltop, and it took us around 10 minutes to walk down to the reception area. The nighttime view is fantastic, with water features, lighting, and installations that you can enjoy while walking to and from the parking lot. For the best experience, I recommend booking the semi-outdoor seats to enjoy the views and fresh air. We dined in the indoor dining room, where the air circulation wasn't sufficient for shabu-shabu, even with the windows open.

This is a really interesting and beautiful restaurant experience. They offer reservations, but we weren’t able to scoop one before we went, so we decided to come a bit earlier to assure that we would beat the lunch rush. We got to the restaurant around 10:45, and had a nice scenic walk to the restaurant location, which is in the middle of a garden. When we arrived, we were told to take a ticket and wait for our number to be called. We waited for about 5 minutes and were seated at one of the nicer tables by the waterfall/koi pond. Service was fast, and ordering is done through your mobile phone. We decided to have the lunch shabu shabu. It was a bit pricey, but the Agu pork was delicious, and all the veggies were crisp and fresh. The portion for 2 people is a lot, so we weren’t able to finish all of the food (mainly the carbs - rice and noodles). I liked the two dipping sauces that were given to us for the shabu shabu, but I do wish there was more variance. They also did not serve us 4 of the side dishes that usually come with the set (you can see in other pictures that people have posted of the shabu shabu, we only received the Japanese pickles) and that wasn’t explained, so I was a bit confused. I wouldn’t miss this if you’re staying in northwestern Okinawa, or are making the trip up to sightsee. It was such a lovely experience to have a relaxing lunch surrounded by nature. The restaurant was quickly filled up with tables full of tourists, so I definitely stress getting here early if you cannot get a reservation.

We were seating at the indoor area at level 2, the waiter took the gas stove and throw at our table “bomb!”.. so loud it scared my child for 1sec and he didn’t even say sorry… maybe they don’t like to attend to tourists … food was not bad after all but service attitude should be better.

Japanese restaurant
Soba noodle shop
Yaezen is a reasonably priced restaurant with a calm and homely atmosphere. It offers a wide variety of menu items including limited daily set meals, Okinawa soba, squid ink soba, and juicy dishes. The interior has a period style with several table seats and raised tatami rooms. The boss is attentive in introducing the dishes which include squid ink, tempura, Okinawa fried bitter gourd, pancakes, and mixed rice.
It's my favourite place for lunch. The restaurant offers set lunch for 550 yen on weekdays and the menu is different everyday. They are famous for squid Okinawa Siva which is really unique and tasty. The tempura don and tempura soba are really generous in term if servings. Lunch hour may be busy especially during summer season.

We just ran into this place without doing any researches but it was a great local restaurant. I had been ordering soki-soba for lunch everyday and was going to this time as well. But since i saw the humongous tempura rice bowl meal 天丼セット, I had to order one. It came with a tiny bowl of soki-soba that satisfied my appetite and other small plates.

Wowee! We were searching for a place serving Okinawan dishes and this was recommended by our host and it didn’t disappoint. Soki Soba and Goya Champaru were some of the dishes we ordered. The broth of the Soki Soba was the best - a smoky salty flavour that I could drink for days. Service was outstanding as the lady was patient with us and our broken Japanese. Atmosphere was what we were hoping, a traditional Japanese seating arrangement. Price was so good and I’d recommend any day of the week.

Yakiniku restaurant
Yakiniku Motobu Bokujo is a popular yakiniku restaurant known for its comfortable and calm atmosphere, making it suitable for families and large groups. The 8000 yen platter may seem small at first glance, but the meat is thick and satisfying. They also occasionally offer ribs not on the menu, which are served on a small plate and provide good value for money.
Amaaaaazing beef quality. I had the family set at Yakiniku Motobu along with a few other dishes, and everything was yumyum. Personally the prime boneless short ribs are my favorite. It’s meting in your mouth. Pluse the yukke Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves good yakiniku!

Not only the beef was SOOOOO good, the spicy beef soup was a highlight too! (It was actually rice in soup.) If you like beef offal, beef liver will be recommended. It was very fresh that it didn’t have to be well cooked. Too bad that they didn’t have the thick beef tongue which is a minus :( The restaurant doesn’t have wide selection but if you’re the beef lover, this OSS the place you have to go for food!

I accidentally stumbled into this gem of a steakhouse on the side of the road, headed towards the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Motobu. The marbling on the steak slices were phenomenal and flavorful. They also have a great selection of wine. The service was fantastic, but the food was superb! I would highly recommend you have lunch or dinner here on your way towards the aquarium tour

Pork and beef are of good quality. Kimchi is delicious to me — a must-try! Three sauces pair perfectly with pork and beef

I had a great dinnner. I was alone and i had a great meal. The meat was awesome and the staff was really nice!! As a foreigner i would recommend eating here!!

The food was delicious, but the atmosphere was unfortunately very noisy, almost like a busy market. We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday, expecting a special dinner, but there were many large groups with children running around, shouting, and playing in the dining area after their meal. It was so distracting that we couldn’t really enjoy our food. I believe the staff should step in and remind parents about restaurant etiquette. Some management is definitely needed to ensure all guests can enjoy their meals comfortably.

Most incredible meal I’ve had, maybe ever. You HAVE to get the family beef sampler if you’re with a group. Changed my life. Staff are incredibly kind, quick, and helpful. Believe all of the 5 star reviews of this place, it’s phenomenal.
