Utica in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Utica, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Utica, often called North Utica, is best known as the main gateway to Starved Rock State Park, one of Illinois’ most popular parks with sandstone canyons, waterfalls, and miles of hiking trails along the Illinois River. Nearby Matthiessen State Park and Buffalo Rock State Park offer additional opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. In town, you’ll find a compact main street with local wineries, pubs, and shops that cater to park visitors. The historic Illinois & Michigan Canal corridor and surrounding rural landscape add to the area’s small-town, outdoors-focused appeal.
With favorites like Jack's Place Restaurant & Bar, Stonehead Leather, and August Hill Winery Tasting Room, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Lodi Tap House - Utica and Starved Rock Lodge Restaurant so you can get the best taste of Utica while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

State park
Nature & Parks
Large forest park & canyon with prairie land, springs, wildlife, camping & horse trails.
Matthiessen State Park is an outstanding destination for anyone seeking a rewarding outdoor experience. Located just minutes from Starved Rock, it offers a slightly less crowded yet equally scenic alternative. The park features impressive canyons, waterfalls, and rock formations that create a truly unique hiking atmosphere. The trails range from easy to moderate, making them accessible for families, casual hikers, and even those bringing along pets—dogs are welcome, which adds to the park’s appeal. The blend of shaded paths, water features, and open canyon areas provides variety throughout the hike, and the views are remarkable. What stood out most was the balance between accessibility and adventure. It’s approachable enough for beginners but still engaging for more seasoned hikers looking for beautiful terrain to explore. Overall, Matthiessen State Park is well worth the visit. Whether you’re planning a day trip, seeking a family outing, or simply looking for a peaceful escape into nature, this park delivers. Highly recommended.

WARNING BE PREPARED TO WALK....A LOT lol. We had so much fun here definitely a great experience, a lot of stairs and walking so bring your energy and some snacks and water also make sure you have good shoes or waterproof shoes/boots some parts are every wet and with all the walking you'll definitely need shoes. When you start your walk there is a really cool cabin you can walk in the other is locked unfortunately and there was no information about it that we could find that was a bummer, after exploring the cabin you start your walk down when you get down there's a few directions you can go we went to the lower area where we walked through the canal or valley im not sure what that would be called but it was pretty cool you walk over a "castle" like bridge down an "ancient stairwell" into the valley area and just adventure around there are a few benches for breaks. We didn't get to see the other side and there wasn't enough rain so we didn't get to see the waterfall unfortunately. but overall still a very good experience/adventure

We recently visited Madison Park and really enjoyed its unique natural spots. The scenery was beautiful and perfect for a walk. However, the trail markings were confusing. It was easy to get lost, and my friends and I ended up taking the wrong paths twice, wasting time and energy. It would be great if the trails were more clearly marked for different activities — walking, horseback riding, skiing, etc. That would make the park much easier and more enjoyable to explore.

A short distance outside of Utica, IL past Starved Rock SP entrance is Matthiessen SP. Free admission and porta-potties. There are two separate areas for hiking, biking and picnicing. The Dell area and the River area. We hiked both. The Dell Canyon- Upper Dell was nice. It can walked as a loop and accessed by stairs down to the stream. The water level was very low and the falls were just a trickle. But here in mid-Sept, some color change is happening and an occasional light shower of falling leaves made for a really pleasant hike along the creek beneath the towering canyon walls. There is an Lower Canyon Trail too. An out and back. The River Trail in the River Area heads into the woods and works itself downward to the Vermillion River. If you're an equestrian, horses can use the trails too. We connected several trails to make a loop. 2 miles. Some areas were heavily overgrown. Markings/blaze signs were non-existent making everything a guesswork. All-Trails was our salvation.
Gordon S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! Relatively easy hike except for all the stairs. But the hike in the dells, along the river bed, and through the woods is well worth it. And the Fall colors were amazing!
T'Keyah W — Google review
This was the most fun I have had in recent memory! The drive was about 80 minutes from the West Suburbs, not a bad ride either. I had been here briefly in 2000, but my memory didn't do it justice! First off, BE READY FOR STAIRS!! The elevation changes are wild. You enter the park and go down maybe 5 or 6 flights of stairs (they're harder on the way up lol) and then you have to decide which way to go. There are about 3 levels to the park- top middle and bottom. There are a couple routes that are just simple walking, but the bottom level has a lot of standing water and navigating your way through without slipping from a stepping stone or fallen branch and getting wet is a challenge. The signs say not to go off the trail- they aren't kidding. If you fall from parts of the top level you are going to get seriously hurt. There are many stairs cases, some are slanted from age which was nerve wracking. Still, the park is gorgeous, especially in mid October when the leaves are starting to really fire up. I'm going back next weekend, I want one more visit before it gets too chilly! Everything is free (parking, admission) and there were a couple vending machines with water or soda, but it would be wise to bring your own water and snacks. It seemed there was phone reception whenever I checked, so take a Pic of the emergency numbers posted at the entrance just to be safe. Not the best choice for young kids as there are not railings or other safety features to guard against falls. I was there for about 5 hours, got 18,000 steps, and 35 flights of stairs registered on my watch. Do check out the Devil's Paintbox because the iron soaked mud/water is incredibly cool and if you follow the bottom level towards the entrance there are some neat cave type areas that are fun to explore. I would give this park a million stars if we could rate higher than ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

My favorite place to hike. It's an hour plus drive from central IL. Worth it. Beautiful in every season. Stairs galore. You will for sure see some Beautiful waterfalls. Many of the places are wet and squishy. It's a great place for an adventure. Parking a plenty and bathrooms.
Autumn P — Google review
I went there in aug 2025 and instantly liked it. It is thickly covered with trees and the canyons are beautiful. There wasn’t much water but I dis manage to see a thin waterfall. I’m definitely going back as i was able to cover half of the state park.

Water & Amusement Parks
Grand Bear Falls Indoor Waterpark is a fantastic destination for families with young children. This water park offers a delightful experience, with the staff being friendly and accommodating. The rooms are well-maintained, fully stocked, and provide utmost comfort. The kids absolutely love the water park, spending most of their time in the water without wanting to leave. It's a family-friendly and relaxed environment that allows for quality bonding time.
Cabin was very spacious - plenty of room The swimming facility was clean, plenty of towels provided The children absolutely loved it! The lazy river was awesome! Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Spa with plenty of room for kids and adults A yellow slide for little ones and kids And a kid pool with a slide specifically for little ones. This place is great! Highly recommend
Justin V — Google review
This place has so much potential, but is sorely missing the mark. A view of the waterpark room is available through dirty windows in the main lobby. All windows in the waterpark room were filthy.. Access is in the basement of the lodge. Upon exiting the elevator, a small arcade is available without an entry fee. You enter the waterpark room through a locker room with showers and toilets. The waterpark has plenty of chairs and tables around the edge. However, the waterpark itself is DISGUSTING. I've never seen a Waterpark this filthy. From the windows to the walls to the pools, the whole thing needs to be drained, power washed, scubbed down and disinfected. Black scum coats the pool floor and side while mold grows openly on the parks' walls. The heart-shaped hot tub has piles of sand on the floor and brown scuzzy grout, which is probably coated with 30 years worth of thousands of peoples dead sluffed skin. My legs started burning and itching within minutes of being in it and a dead beetle floated by, (I wouldn't have gone in except I was the guest of a friend and didn't want to be an ahole). This place closes at 9 and was packed at 8:00 pm on a Friday night. The volume was overwhelming; between the echos of screaming children, water dumping, waterfalls pouring and the beeping alarm of the wave pools, chatting in the crowded hot tub was difficult. There's a kiddy pool with a kiddy slide for babys, and a yellow slide into the wave pool that was packed with young kids. The wave pool connects to the lazy river through a double waterfall and a wooden staircase leads up to the two big slides. One is a body slide, and one uses an innertube. The body slide was painful to me, and forced a bunch of that nasty water up my nose, the innertube one was more enjoyable, but I still racked my ankle going down. These tube's go outside of the building but the ride down is mostly in the dark. It would be cool if you could see outside. These slides shoot you into a pool that feeds into the lazy river. The wristbands came with the purchase of our room and were good for Friday and Saturday. When we returned to the waterpark on Saturday at 11, nothing was on. The lazy river wasn't moving, the slides were closed, the water was cold and the wave pool wasn't in action. (There were still plenty of kids playing, running either way up and down around the lazy river but it wasn't as loud) The waterfalls were off and The hot tub had part of a bandaid in it. We learned that nothing gets turned on until 4 pm. On a Saturday! We live 3 hours away and weren't sticking around till then .. If we hadn't rushed down on friday night we wouldn't have gotten to experience anything other than the cruddy hot tub. The Waterpark is staffed with young teenagers on their phones, chatting with each other and drinking slushies. At least I hope that was slushy on the floor. I'm sure kids would love this place, but I wouldn't let a child in that water. Update: Two days later and I now have a sinus infection. Don't go in this cesspool.

Shadow of what I assume was once a decent resort. Fair priced arcade. Resort Staff wasn’t friendly but were helpful when needed. The pool was another story. No working water slides on a Saturday afternoon/evening nor all day Sunday is plain unacceptable. I asked the sole lifeguard on duty who said “no one wants to work and I can’t cover everything” as the reason the slides were down. They have a “cubbie” snack/drink shack adjacent to the pool which would’ve been nice but it was also closed the entire weekend. Non-working Ranger station dump bucket and rusty remnants of what would’ve been nice looking waterfalls adorn the area. The enchanted forest playground across the way has apparently been in closed for years. Breakfast Food at the on site restaurant was ok at best. I imagine 10-15 years ago this was a great spot but I doubt we’ll be returning. Too bad because the hiking was great.
Mike R — Google review
We stayed for the first time this past weekend its not bad for the price you pay. The water park could use a little updating and deep cleaning. Water wasn't too bad. Friday the chlorine smell has strong but Saturday and Sunday it was better. Rooms were nice. Dont go expecting great wolf lodge. The restaurant and Cafe food was good.
Jessica G — Google review
This is an indoor water park by the technical definition of "indoor water park". The three little kids LOVE this place. They are going to be so disappointed when they grow up and go back to visit and go "that's what we were so excited about"? Yes. It's perfect for little kids, but any kid over 11 will be greatly disappointed.
Gregory M — Google review
Everything is so dated that it gives off unclean. The water park definitely makes you feel like you are in a petri-dish and at risk for respiratory or bacterial infection from undertreated water. The lobby and rooms were so old that dirt had built up to create a layer on the carpet. The furniture in the rooms is so old and filthy you are hesitant to sit on the furniture.
Christina G — Google review
I don't know how this is considered a water park. Not much of nothing there I would not suggest this for a trip for a family if u have More than just toddlers. The only good thing was the cabins.
April — Google review
My girls and me drove an hour and a half, after I had called to ensure they were open to the public today, and after looking at their website— and “schedule”. The wave pool was never turned on at any point, as stated it would be on said schedule, the two main slides were closed down and looked as though they had been for a while which was also left out on the website or phone call. The pool itself, the bottom was breaking apart and cutting up our feet—overall not worth the $120 spent. An hour and a half drive in the opposite direction would’ve warranted a better experience I think.

This place is NOT to be missed! It's an absolute children's wonderland! The staff was amazingly friendly, the place has a multi-level construction that is perfect for all age children! The prices are super affordable, it's clean and the toys are in perfect working order. If you're visiting the area and need the kids to burn off some energy or boredom, this is THE place to go!

Awesome place to visit for a day of fun or even planning a party!!!! We do both and the birthday party Megan helped me plan this past weekend was amazing!!!! She really gave momma some relief and pretty much took over and it turned out more amazing than I ever thought it would!!!! Really this is the spot for parties your child will never forget....

These escape rooms are really fun!! It was my first time, I was just there to support my kids but the room was pretty challenging so I jumped in when needed, which was a decent amount, lol. The escape room was well thought out, really interesting riddles, gentle pushes in the right direction, had an engaging story line. All around a good time. Staff is friendly, they know what they’re doing, super helpful. Will definitely be checking out the new school based escape room that comes out in a few weeks!
Q K — Google review
The room was a bit worn but liked the details like the backpacks and books in the bookshelf. Was more of a linear pathway. We played Feeny’s (Boy Meets World) room with our 8 and 6 year old, their first time. Escaped with 15 minutes to spare!
Justin K — Google review
We had so much fun on The Asylum escape room. I won't reveal any details but if you love escape rooms, check this one out. Our family of 5 didn't escape in time but we were close and we had a blast.

Good idea for an indoor option. Very poors hours if you have school aged kids. Multiple weekends now we’ve tried to plan a day to come and they’ve been closed due to private events which is confusing because isn’t that why you’re closed on sundays.

Lodi Tap House in Utica is a great spot to unwind after outdoor activities like hiking or biking. The place offers an extensive drink menu with a wide selection of beers on tap and a decent food selection. Visitors highly recommend the massive pretzel with beer cheese as an appetizer, along with delicious burgers. The atmosphere is fun, and the service is excellent, but parking might be a bit challenging.
Loved the atmosphere! The staff were friendly and helpful, even to each other. My son had the turkey burger special, I had the hand battered chicken strips, we shared the fried potatoe salad and deviled eggs. All of it was delicious 😋. A band was playing there tonight, young couple still in high school. They harmonized well together and did a fantastic job. What a great place!

Terrific food and beers in a clean, hip setting. My wife and I enjoyed our time. Friendly staff and delicious meals. I ordered the buffalo chicken green salad as a wrap with twice fried fries. My wife chose the Lodi Cobb Salad filled w fresh greens, sliced egg, avocado, bacon pieces and blue cheese dressing on the side.
Gordon S — Google review
Awesome beer menu featuring a ton of local beers and ciders. Great cheese curds, and the smash burger is really good. Service was very friendly and the atmosphere was fun.
Jeremy D — Google review
Been here a handful of times but today was particularly good. Pretzel was great, of course. But the seasonal burger and the fries with the battered coating is the kind of stuff you talk about the rest of the day. Also, shoutout to our server. I didn’t get her name but she made us feel so special. Thanks, Lodi Tap!
Mary B — Google review
The wings are incredible. Cheese curds were so light and crispy. Great flavor, just a little salty, which I didn’t hate! Burger wasn’t quite smash with the crispy edges but still good!
Lauren B — Google review
We happened to visit this place because there was nowhere else available. You have so much space outside, but it remains empty. You need to replace those ugly, pink, rusty, cold chairs and paint the board that looks a hundred years old — maybe then you will attract more people. The service was slow. The food wasn’t bad.
Kri S — Google review
The worst curds we have gotten from there! Most times we go, we have hour plus wait, one server, or not open, but the curds sucked this evening! They were not cooked and soggy! Not worth $13
Ashleigh D — Google review
Loaded fries were a joke, hardly any toppings and frozen seasoned fries. The beer selection was decent. I actually appreciate that it wasn’t loaded with IPAs but it’s October and not a single stout on the tap list. That’s a tough pill to swallow. I seen some burgers being delivered to others that looked tasty. However, it’s a basic bar with ok service, wish I could give a better review but it was nothing special. I liked it better when it was an Irish pub. Struggling to find something above average in the area.

Restaurant
Starved Rock Lodge Restaurant, located in a charming historic lodge, offers traditional American meals in a rustic wood-lined dining room. During my recent week-long stay, I had the pleasure of dining there four times, including breakfast, lunch, and two dinners. The wait staff at this establishment were exceptional when it came to dealing with my three-year-old's food allergies. They went above and beyond to check ingredients and accommodate her dietary needs. Every waiter and waitress was friendly and helpful throughout my visits.
It was a treat to have gluten-free bread, buns and pasta to choose from. Fryers were not dedicated, but they made that clear. The gluten-free peanut butter pie was a wonderful treat!
Pam J — Google review
Server was kind, attentive and helpful. However, the food was… not. Pancakes were very raw with runny batter in the middle, fruit tasted like soap and was VERY sour and not ripe, and the pepper tasted like it had been sitting there for a year and legitimately tasted moldy. Spent $45 for two people to eat very poor quality food. Bathroom was also very gross with 2/3 stalls being completely clogged and the one working one had no toilet paper.
Benjamin P — Google review
The Thanksgiving buffet was excellent. We enjoyed the food. They had brunch items as well as traditional thanksgiving food. The chef at the ham carving station was great. They also had a custom omelette station and an incredible dessert table. The host station was efficient and I appreciated that everything was included in the prepaid amount. Basically everything was amazing, except for our server. She came to our table once and then apparently left for the day. No one came back to our table after that, even after we asked the bussers for a server to refill drinks, etc.. We actually had to find someone at the end of our meal so that we could leave.

5-4 star ratings? McDonald’s would have been better. Spent almost $100 for burgers that were warm & ice cold buns. Let’s not mention the service was pretty mediocre for the ticket. I’m usually a very generous tipper but I gave exactly what I received…less than desired! I should have tried the buffet! 0 would have been my rating!

Been visiting this shop for several years, from back when they were in their tiny building next door. If you are looking for motorcycle riding gear and leather shop here first. They have always kept their prices good and are friendly folks. Great selection! Update: visited again while traveling through May, 2024. Still an awesome place to shop. I purchased flags for my bike and some sunglasses that were priced better than Amazon! Love this place.

Stopped in over the weekend and must have caught the owner (man) on a bad day. We asked about any sales and he told us that he works for peanuts and no discounts or sales available. He then proceeded to become a doctor by giving negative input about my fiancées injury and input about income law. Hmmmm……sadly we left. Nice store but we won’t be returning due to the man’s attitude towards us. Sad but true.

I went in today and bought chaps and a vest. Meet Keith who helped size the chaps and trim the length. Price was less than I thought I would pay. Highly recommend Stonehead Leathers.

Great place. Great owners. Great service. Great selection. I’d rather ride 2+ hours to this shop than deal with anyone else. Great selection of leather items, patches, jewelry and more. They are super friendly and it’s been a great experience every time I’ve been there. The new building/location (located right next door to the old location) is really nice as well. I could not recommend them more.

The La Salle County Historical Museum is a delightful 19th-century collection, showcasing various attractions like a one-room schoolhouse and blacksmith shop. It offers an impressive array of local history, spanning from indigenous peoples to French explorers and modern times. The museum highlights captivating stories such as the radium girls, Wild Bill Hickock, World War II shipbuilding, moonshine production, and other local industries along with canal history.
What an incredible museum! The Victorian mourning wreath was such a pleasure to see in person. Staff was lovely and welcoming to us out-of-towners. I wished there were more native artifacts.

The La Salle County Historical Museum is a great museum to learn about local history. I came there to check out their Radium Girls exhibit after learning about their exhibit on Tik Tok. The exhibit was wonderful as well as all their other collections on local history. Their collection is so big there is two buildings full of exhibits. there is even a library section to research any historical files they have. Entrance is free but donations are appreciated.

We always wanted to stop by here!! so many times! & so glad we finally did!! Such a wonderful staff and we enjoyed learning all about the town and location that we love and cherish!! Can't wait to bring the kids back here for some local education!! (FYI and pro tip) there are MANY great wine bars right across the street for afterwards!!

A very well done museum with local history from native peoples thru French explorers thru recent days. High points included the story of the radium girls, Wild Bill Hickock, WW2 ship building, moonshine production, other local manufacturing , and canal history. The local staff were very helpful and gave us an excellent guided tour of one of the two buildings. Admission is free with donations welcomed. We spent 2 1/2 hours here and there was much more to read if time permitted. Signage was good and displays well identified.

Very cool museum covering Lincoln and other history concerning the area. A Gatling gun is here, antique children's toys, ladies vintage dresses, military memorabilia, canal history and in the basement a very detailed house interior that is amazingly captured with antiques that let you see into the 1800s home life in the area. Well worth a stop.

August Hill Winery Tasting Room is a sophisticated and award-winning wine tasting room located in downtown Utica. The winery offers a selection of locally produced wines, including sparkling wines made from grapes grown in the nearby Starved Rock Country vineyard. Visitors can enjoy a glass of their renowned Berlyn Red or opt for a wine flight on the beautiful patio. Additionally, guests have the option to purchase a case of wine to share with friends and family.
If you like to spend time on vacations checking out the local winery, this place is for you! All kinds of variants of sweet, dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sparkling, etc. Some of them even had glitter in them! We enjoyed ourselves and were very pleased with the tasting. I really liked the Trapolino, Norton, and Almond Infusion wines. The pictures I posted are for Illnatic, Emerald Apple, and Indigo, which were also very tasty.

Nice little place tucked away in a quiet rural downtown area. Great place to spend a weekend afternoon. Wine… excellent. Just finished my last take-home bottle, excellent quality, prices fair. Menu is very limited but they do make a delicious hot chicken dip. It paired well with the Chambourcin Reserve I ordered. Mini charcuterie board is very small and overpriced, not worth ordering. Might want to rethink this item. Atmosphere is comfortable. Lounge is decent. Bar in the front, clean and inviting. Best thing about August Hill is one of their employees, Jody… she is a superstar. Very friendly and made me feel welcome. Note to owners: give this person a raise! Looking forward to visiting again in the Spring!
Tom F — Google review
My group and I enjoyed the experience. We all did a 6 por asting. Many of the wines were delicious, ranging from dry to sweet. Following the tasting purchased 2 bottles (Berlyn and Apple Fusion). Each uniquely delicious. Berlyn is a semi-dry, light bodied wine with notes of cherry and cocoa. Apple fusion is a sweet, sparkling wine with apple noted and flavors. I will be back as I learned much about the August Hill brand. I was made aware of both Wine on the Hill and Cave tastings.

Great experience did a wine tasting with pairing. So many different selections to choose from, my favorite winery. The person working the counter was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the selections. Well worth a trip there.

$10 for a 6 pour tasting. Sounds good, right? Unlike any other wine tasting I’ve had, this was .5 oz pours! And I’m not even sure we got that! Barely splashed the bottom of the glass. Never had that here before, (or anywhere for that matter) but apparently that is their thing??? Maybe 3 oz for $10??? For reference, almost any other wine tasting anywhere is a 2oz pour and the bartenders are almost always generous with their pours. Then we were asked to “squeeze” in with half the bar empty, and then when we ordered a glass we were asked to leave the bar so he could accommodate a tasting (group of 5) that just walked in. 1/3rd of the bar was still open. If you like sweet wines, this is your place. They don’t do real wines well. Run over to Gilded Edge for better reds. Half oz pours…. Good grief
Dave P — Google review
There are 2 places - the wine tasting room on 106 Mill Street, Utica IL and the August Hill Winery at 21 N 2551st Road, Peru, IL. The wine tasting room has live music every weekend but you can’t be under 21 so not kid friendly. It was really disappointing bc of the inability to bring kids. It would be nice to bring family w young kids bc it’s nice to sit and relax. You can do tastings at both places but this tasting room is close to all the other restaurants and bars in Utica. At the winery, where it’s more remote and they also have live music at times and you can do tours of the winery. Lorrie was great giving us a very detailed and friendly wine tasting. Favorite wines: We loved the Berlyn, Strawberry Peach Sangria, American Catawba, Caramel-Apple, Almond Infusion (sparkling), Augies Blackberry, and a fruity sweet dry red wine that was so smooth and delicious that everyone would love! Each of these are really sweet and flavorful great quality wines. We had live music here outdoors at the winery. The tour was great and the atmosphere very open and warm. But given my love of sweet wines this winery has very amazing wines. Tasting is $30 per person w 6 wines.
Karina K — Google review
Wonderful experience. We were greeted right away. The different wine tasting, flight or full glass options were explained. Friendly, professional, prompt service. Had a red wine flight and a brut flight. Also ordered the cheese plate which had two types of crackers and three soft cheeses. You can taste at the bar, relax in the large, beautiful lounge, or sit in the back patio. Highly recommend!
Margaret W — Google review
From the moment we walked in, things went downhill fast. We approached the bar for a tasting — only six people total were there — and were immediately told to scoot closer to the couple next to us. Apparently having six feet of empty bar space to my husband’s side was just too much freedom. (Don’t worry, we would’ve happily moved if anyone else had actually needed the space.) The tasting pours? Let’s just say if they were any smaller, the wine would’ve evaporated before it hit the glass. We were told it’s 1/2 oz pours… which is interesting, because we’ve visited before and shockingly remember receiving more than a thimbleful. We finished and ordered glasses, hoping to salvage the experience. But as soon as my husband signed the check, the bartender swooped in and not-so-subtly suggested we go sit outside or find somewhere in the lounge area so he could serve the group of women who had just arrived. Funny — the women on the other side of me were taking up twice the space we were, yet somehow they were exempt from the relocation request… probably because they were in their tasting phase of the experience. So after driving over an hour to visit a place we used to enjoy, we left feeling like we were in the way the entire time. Pretty disappointing, and honestly? We probably won’t bother coming back to find out if it was just a bad day.

Clarks Run Antiques, Gifts & Wine is Utica's largest antique store with a diverse selection of vintage and recycled items. The shop also offers a wide variety of gifts including home decor, jewelry, and glassware. Visitors have praised the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service at this hidden gem. In addition to antiques and gifts, the shop features a bar with an assortment of high-quality wines. Customers have enjoyed the cozy setup and clean, beautiful displays while exploring both floors of the shop.
We were told to swing by after receiving a free wine tasting card from their sister location down the street! After being extremely pleased we followed pursuit to continued happiness and bliss and enjoyed more than a few glasses and samples! The staff is uncanny and we had better luck with our guy the second day (first day was a little rough but she may have been having a tough day!) But the moral is we came back the next day! We loved the antique vibe mixed with the town vibe mixed with the wines and apple pie shots!! What wonderful blend Utica all together as one!! See you back for a third time this winter!!

They have an amazing selection of a variety of items. A fabulous old dollhouse caught my eye-- if only I had room for it. My favorite find was an original 1936 edition of L. M. Really needs a good cleaning, would have loved to look a little longer and purchase something but the smell was over whelming. At least 10 dogs we counted while there.

Walked in and walked out! The was a Doberman growling at us! There were puppies on the floor in their own pee and poo! It was disgusting! Couldn't take the stench! They lost 2 big sales on Wednesday the 9th of July!
Shirlene J — Google review
Honestly what is this place? Walk in and there’s 3 puppies tied to shelves. 2 Dobermans in small kennels, one was muzzled. Walk towards the boot section and there’s another Doberman loose who’s growling. The smell of dog shit was overwhelming. you could see where the dogs had shit on the floor where it wasn’t cleaned properly. Instantly walked out of there. Super suspicious with the dogs and I personally refuse to support that.

Very bizarre place. Instant hit of dog smell and dust when you enter. Puppies in gates, dobermans in crates? Is this a dog breeder? Very dirty. Very creepy.

Amazing service and food! Fried mushrooms 10/10!! Absolutely the best Chicken Strips I have ever eaten: giant, tender, tasty. Busy atmosphere and never needed to wait for a refill. Our server killed it. Give her a raise (:

Located in the Mill Street Patio area of North Utica,Canal Port is housed in an old school pub with original tin ceilings and a wood crafted bar. Serving lunch and dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. We stopped in for a late lunch midweek and it was not crowded at all. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside and enjoyed the relaxed feel. They offer a nice selection of craft beers along with sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. For dinner they serve steaks, seafood and pork chops. Expect to wait for your food to be served as everything is made to order. I had Monterrey Chicken sandwich which I ordered fried topped with bacon, Monterrey Jack cheese and Parmesan ranch dressing. You can also get the chicken grilled. Comes with fries, slaw or bar chips. The sandwich was a good portion and reasonably priced. My wife had the burger on a gluten free bun which they only charged her 1.00 extra for. We were both satisfied with our selections and would definitely suggest going here for lunch instead of eating within Starved Rock State Park.

Quick stop here for a late-lunch after hiking at Starved Rock State Park. Found it on Google Maps after a search for local soups. We were greeted happily when we arrived and seated immediately in their restaurant section away from the bar. Our server recommended the Chicken and Dumpling soup and it was fantastic! Great dining and service experience here. You won’t be disappointed. Enjoy! Tip: A walk thru downtown Utica is pleasant after your meal. It’s a nice little downtown area. Very quaint.

Atmosphere is great, service is fantastic. My wife and I both got the fried cod and fries with some drinks. We started off eating inside and they allowed us to finish outside with our drinks. My cod was slightly overcooked to being a little chewy on one side. I tried my wifes and hers was perfect. I knocked off one star for that but I would definitely come back. Solid 4.5 overall

Waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order, then an extra 25 minutes for our food. All we ordered were two hotdogs with cheese on one and onions on the other. Cheese wasnt even melted, and the hotdogs were almost cold, tasted like they had been sitting under a fan for 10 mins. Then we had to wait 10 for the check, and waited a whole other 10 minutes for someone to take payment for the meal. Never going back. Would not recommend for someone looking for food in Utica IL.

Jack's Place Restaurant & Bar offers delicious homemade pizza that is full of vibrant colors and freshness. Whether you prefer carry out or dining in, this establishment is a great choice for both hotel guests and visitors to the Starved Rock area. In addition to their excellent pizza, they also have a variety of other tasty entrees and unique menu options.
Jack's Place Restaurant and Bar at Grand Bear Resort was an excellent experience. Especially our server Jade. She was very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. The food was phenomenal and the pricing was very reasonable for the portions we received. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Food definitely could use some improvements. Breakfast was good. Great variety. Fresh fruit was huge plus with the youngest. The lunch and dinner was ok at best. Pizza was not very good either. But for staff they were wonderful! Clara was a super awesome waitress!
Cassandra D — Google review
Jade was a great waitress! She was very attentive and kind. We felt bad for her because the food was not good at all. We ordered the brisket pizza and the brisket was all fat and hard. The dough was like a frozen pizza. I would not recommend it at all! The menu has the oddest choices and we thought the pizza was the best option.... We were definitely WRONG! The water taste nasty and we went and brought drinks from the lobby fridge instead.

Cajun restaurant
Cajun Connection is a New Orleans-inspired establishment in the Midwest, known for its delectable jambalaya, gumbo, battered alligator, and occasional crawfish boils. The cuisine offered at this restaurant is truly remarkable; it's hard to believe such authentic Cajun food can be found outside of Louisiana. One visitor enjoyed a diverse appetizer consisting of four different items and opted for both mild and hot boudin balls.
Loved this restaurant and atmosphere! Cajun Ron comes out to speak with his customers. You can tell her love what he does and having folks come to enjoy what he makes.. Our waitress was wonderful and very helpful and could tell it was our first time there. Food is fantastic. Best Gator I've ever had. Fantastic warm pecan pie. Prices are great for all you get. Really loved our experience, and look forward to being back

Everything was great, I got the hush puppies and fries alligator po boy sandwich. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend coming here if you are in the starved rock area, it's worth going too. Food was priced good too. The owner or the cook not sure asked how everything was even held the door for us and talked to us for a while. We will be coming back and sharing with anyone looking for this style of food. 5 stars.
John ( — Google review
The food was amazing. I can't believe you can get Cajun food this good in the Midwest. We did the 4 different item appetizer and choose the mild and hot boudin balls. They good but the hot is better and more flavourful. The fried corn was really good and the alligator was so good I had to get it as part of my main dish. I got the Jamba-2-fay with the crawfish etouffee over the jambalaya with the fried alligator. They have this dipping sauce pictured below that goes great with the alligator. The desserts looked good but I was stuffed and didn't get a chance to try them
Antwan S — Google review
Our first time here food was great! we had the combo for 2 with alligator jambalaya baba shrimp. Great service very friendly staff and uncle Ron is a hoot!! came out to great patrons and he told our 7 yr old his gumbo recipe story overall great experience a must to when in the area.
Rigoberto A — Google review
The food was delicious, but the service, pricing and social distancing were pretty bad. We ordered combo with gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish creole, shrimp etouffee and shrimp scampi, and all of them were delicious except that they didn’t remove the sand vein of the shrimp. Be careful that they charged extra $4 when you share the combo - we didn’t notice it when reading the menu, and the staff also didn’t tell us while we ordered the food, making us a bit surprised when seeing the bill. Also, be careful that they didn’t provide water, and if you asked for water, they charged additional for that. Lastly, there’s no social distancing in the restaurant during COVID, which was not acceptable at all. The staff was pretty rude when we asked to change seats to have a bit more social distancing. Overall, good food but very bad experiences.
Y.C. W — Google review
Food is outstanding. Not many places serve Gator so was looking forward to getting my fix. I was not disappointed. Perfectly cooked. Also always enjoy getting a story from "Cajun Ron", the owner. He makes a point to talk to all his guests.

The waitress was somewhat rude. She throw the plates of food onto our table. The shrimp etouffee taste like dessert, super sweet. The catfish was undercooked. Rice was so dried. We were hungry but couldn’t eat another bite. Cajun Disconnected

The owners are looking to retire due to lack of staffing. It is a shame. Absolutely the best Cajun food period. We just returned from New Orleans and could not find an equal to the ted beans and rice nor jambalaya!
