Cave Junction in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Cave Junction, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Cave Junction is best known as the gateway to Oregon Caves National Monument, where marble caves, forest trails, and historic lodge buildings draw nature lovers and geology enthusiasts. Set in the scenic Illinois Valley along the Redwood Highway, it offers easy access to hiking, river recreation, and drives through forested mountain landscapes. Local attractions such as Great Cats World Park and the quirky Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort add family-friendly and offbeat stops to a visit. The town’s small, rural character makes it a laid-back base for exploring southwest Oregon and nearby northern California redwood country.
With favorites like Illinois River Forks State Park, Wild Rivers Ranger District, and Sushi Asian Cuisine, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Dairy Queen Grill & Chill and Chateau at the Oregon Caves so you can get the best taste of Cave Junction while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve is a fascinating destination for those interested in geology and outdoor exploration. The caves are composed of intricate marble formations, which create huge underground caverns that can be explored through guided tours. The tour lasts about an hour and a half, during which visitors can witness unique calcite formations and learn from knowledgeable guides. It's important to bring warm clothing during the tour as the temperature inside the cave is around 44 degrees Fahrenheit.
Such an amazing experience. Specially in the heat of the summer. I went in with just a t-shirt. It felt amazing. I do recommend a long sleeve shirt. But a sweeter or jacket is not necessary. You will get warm just moving through the cave. Me and my queen went with no kids. Nice get away. We will definitely be back with all 4 of the regrets. Also made our way up above the tour and found the cave with a sign in sheet. I suggest having a flash light for that ine. Or phone light. Its about 12' in and takes a right down to the container that has the sign sheet. See the photos.

This is an awesome find and I highly recommend going. You'll probably won't see anything like it in your life and it's a very humbling experience to go through, I'm very grateful it's even a tour, and the kids liked it also! It was a mile hike underground but they did awesome and it wasn't really too cold like we expected
Levi W — Google review
We have a great time here. The cave tour is really cool and worth the money. The guide for our tour was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job. The tour group was small enough that everyone could easily see and hear the guide. The tour is 90 minutes and has a lot of walking on uneven surfaces and up quite a few stairs. This is not for small children or anyone with walking difficulties. The different formations and features are awesome to see up close. I would recommend an appointment but they also save quite a few spots for same day walk in. We will definitely go back some time.
Jeremy — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! The caves are surreal with twisting marble formations, hidden chambers, and fascinating geology. The park rangers were incredibly knowledgeable and brought the whole underground journey to life with their passion and storytelling. The drive to the monument is stunning, winding through lush forested hills. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, but 100% worth it even if you're coming from hours away. Pro tip: Arrive early! The visitor center opens at 8:30 AM, but you’ll want to be there by 7:45 AM to get in line for tour tickets. Tours are limited and often sell out fast, especially in summer. If you’re in southern Oregon, don’t skip this. It’s a true hidden gem and a perfect mix of nature, science, and awe.

Aug 2025 My 3rd time here 1st time for my wife. I told her it was a nice level walk! I guess my memory sucks (it had been 25 years since the last tour). There are plenty of stairs and steps! She still loved the tour, and still loves me though. Awesome cave. Our guide showed us a device for recording bats flying through. Therefore the Bat Phone really does exist! The cool colors in some of the photos are a trick the phone did. There is a combinations of LED and incandescent lights that plays hell with the white balance. Actual colors are cave gray as in the other images.
Dan C — Google review
We had the best time on our guided tour through the caves. Our tour guide was very pleasant and gave usany fun facts about the caves. The drive up to the caves is windy but not too long. Make sure to pack a sweater as the caves are very cold even though it was 90° outside of them.
Tiffany G — Google review
One of the best cave tours I’ve done in a long time. The park Rangers were very knowledgeable and the hike was really fun. You do walk up a lot of steps and you have to duck under some rock formations, but it’s a really great experience.
Bartellj — Google review
Highly recommend the Oregon Caves and taking a tour. We took our three kids and spent Almsot two hours underground during our tour. A beautiful spot, worth the drive.

Cave Junction Jubilee Park

Park
Cave Junction Jubilee Park, located in the heart of Cave Junction, is a multifunctional space that serves as both the Illinois Valley Visitors Center and the Oregon Caves Visitor Center. The park features a great playground, skate park, and dog walking area with ample parking. While homeless individuals may be present at times, they are generally not disruptive. The park offers a peaceful atmosphere and occasionally hosts concerts and festivals. Families can enjoy the playground while kids can have fun at the skate park.
A very nice little park. On Wednesdays they do have a food kitchen if you need food
John A — Google review
It’s a decent park where I feel safe to bring my son despite there being several homeless people who hang out there all the time. I remember a few years ago finding needles in the playground school bus structure but it seems to have been cleaned up. Also there is now a water park newly installed with some pretty neat features and a nice way to cool down in the summer that the kids seem to love. It’s nice that there are several benches, most of which are located in the shade.
Robert R — Google review
It's great that the skate park is here, but it does need improvements and it does need additional add-ons to make it more fun and functional. This winter I'll be working on a spring plan for the skate park for improvements and will bring it to the city council.
Seth S — Google review
Great community and awesome park but the restrooms need soap among other additions
Dustin S — Google review
Very nice, sitting under a cool shade tree listening to a radio with my Tank Girl my dog. Pleasant. Cool cushy green grass to sit on, on a hot summer morning. Lovely
EdreAnna B — Google review
For how small the town is, it was nice small skate park. Seems like you have plenty of flat ground before getting into your next transition. Great for beginners that need to learn how to drop I to a quarter pipe and people that like flat ground. The worst part was the park it self seemed to be where the homeless of the town slept.
Julie H — Google review
The tough trucks during the holiday weekend are fabulous, such goofy fun. Great family entertainment.♥️
June R — Google review
Except for the tweekers, it's a nice park. Just dont Go there after dark, and stay away from the restrooms after hours, and the stage area, and definitely dont let your kids play in the playground area, they find used needles there so, ...yes, be cautious. Sadly.

I had an absolute blast on the zip lines and Tarzan swing! I was terrified to go on the Tarzan swing but I am so glad I was convinced to do it!! In my opinion it’s better than the zip lines, but they are for sure fun too. Our guides were the best! Fun, knowledgeable, and interactive.
Sepherah H — Google review
We had Willy and Matt as our guides. They did a great job. We did not have reservations and they allowed us to join another group even though we showed up at the last second. We were so happy to get to go zip lining.
Salynn81 — Google review
Me and my family went ziplining for my birthday. Eli and Morgan are awesome guides. I highly recommend going. We are definitely going back to stay in the tree houses. It was very welcoming there and the vibe was positive energy.
Elaine B — Google review
This was an...interesting (yet fun!)...family experience! While visiting the Oregon coast and redwood forest, we decided to try and find a zipline course to add a layer of excitement to our forest exploration. After Googling a couple options, we elected to go to the Treehouse - mostly because my kids loved the idea of adding the Tarzan swing onto the zipline course! I have to say, we had a great time after overcoming a few misgivings when we first showed up. First, the Treehouse Ziplines is in the town of Takilma. For those who don't know the area (like we didn't), Takilma was a town founded by hippies a number of years ago. The road to the Treehouse wanders through some areas that just seemed...different. It started to feel like we were in the movie "Nothing But Trouble". The business lacked any professional sign, and instead, there were a couple hand painted road signs pointing the way through a neighborhood dirt road. Upon arrival, a sign indicated that zipline customers and staff were to park in the dirt lot by the horse corral. Again, weird. As I looked for the business, I found myself wandering through...treehouses...with people milling about like they lived there. After wandering around, I found the zipline building at the back of the campus, and somewhat nervously asked how to check in. At this point, I didn't know what I'd gotten my family into - was this place even a legitimate business, licensed, and insured? Or was it a hippie commune that I'd stumbled into?? After a few questions (and some after-the-fact research), I discovered that the Treehouse Ziplines is part of the Out n' About Treehouse Resort - a small resort of treehouses people can stay at, with ziplining being one of the activities people can participate in. Apparently, this would have been more obvious to me if I fully explored their website, but as it was, Google landed me on their ziplining page, and I didn't know it was part of a larger resort offering. I have to say that the staff were very friendly and professional. They took safety seriously, and I quickly gained confidence in their abilities and attention to detail. We did the Big Zip Adventure, which is a series of 7 increasingly challenging zips, starting with a short practice zip just a few feet off the ground, to a zip that starts 75' up a tree! (There is something a little nerve wracking being that high up, on a small platform, and feeling the tree sway - it doesn't matter if you are double attached to a secure cable - you'll find yourself feeling like hugging the tree for dear life!). Each group gets two guides, and again, safety is their primary concern, and making sure you have fun is their next. Our guides had a couple good jokes to tell at each platform (some pretty darn funny, others more like groan worthy dad jokes...!). There's also a little bit of walking/hiking to get around, not a lot by any means, but the guides were very cognizant of the group's walking ability and took a pause a couple times to make sure nobody had to overly catch their breath. The 7 ziplines felt like the right amount of zips for the activity, but you can extend and add more if you'd like. At the end, we headed to the Tarzan Swing - and for thrill seekers, it is a MUST! They use a golf cart and pully system to pull you up 55 ft on your harnessed swing - but you have to hang on to the handle on the way up (think about dangling from a pull-up bar as the bar is being pulled 55 ft into the air!). On their queue, you simply let go and plummet to your death...er, I mean...plummet through one of the most terrifying rides you'll get to experience! Both my 19 and 14 year old teenagers shrieked on the way down - and about nothing can make my teenagers shriek these days! From a dad's perspective, well worth the $20 adder! In the end, I'd highly recommend the experience - just know what to expect going into it, and you won't face the same "what the...?!" factor that I did!
Rob — Google review
Great place to have fun and enjoy your time, I highly recommend anyone looking for a treehouse experience they won’t forget.
Andrew S — Google review
My partner and I had an amazing experience! We found the place easily, checked in, got fitted & geared up, went through safety checks and went through a practice run before actually getting up in the air! Perfect for my first time going zip lining! The lines were the perfect combination of fast & long! Super happy to have went with this place compared to others. Morgan was an amazing guide and really knew the ins and outs of the entire course and area in general. The place has so much to offer, definitely worth coming back to!
Naudia S — Google review
My boyfriend and I went in the off season, so it was just the two of us. Guides Curtis and Morgan were both so friendly, and we had a blast talking and joking with them. But safety was always first, and they made sure we knew what to do and what to expect from each zip and bridge. Great guys and an amazing course with a variety of zip lines in speed, height and length, and several kinds of fun and challenging bridges. We had a ton of fun, and it was the perfect way to get out into nature, challenge ourselves, and have some good laughs. 10/10 will go again!

Amazing stayed here for five days on our end of the year school field trip with my eighth grader in his class zip lining horseback riding a beautiful swimming pool very relaxing environment. I suggest everybody stay here at least once. I will be back with my family. every morning breakfast is provided. It’s lovely evening time for dinner. We shared a community kitchen we met so many great people that were staying there from around the states

We stayed in the Peacock Perch. It was high, so be ready to put in the steps. We were also informed by Amber that it's the first livable treehouse that started it all. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and made daily by the staff. The pond for the swimming hole was clean and beautiful. We did the mosaic art with Miguel who was very helpful in making the experience a fun one for my kids and I. My kids also did the tie dye project with Brian, who was also very friendly and knowledgeable in his art. Last, we did horse back riding with Verge as our guide and she was very patient and made us all feel comfortable riding for our first time. I will definitely be coming back again. Thanks for making our time in Oregon a memorable one. ❤️

We had an amazing experience here! We were originally going to stay at Treehouse Point in Washington but they do not allow kids to stay overnight. On the other hand Out n About is very family friendly and we were able to bring our nine year old who was super excited to have her own loft in the treehouse. We stayed in the Majestree this October, it stayed a comfortable temperature, breakfast was amazing and they had coffee and snacks available all day. They made accommodations for allergies. My husband and daughter went horseback riding which was $100 a person but it took about an hour and was a good experience for them. Also a lot of free activities on the property for all ages. Was very relaxing to sit by the pool and watch the horses while drinking some fresh brewed coffee. Good signage to help find the property. The owner and all the employees were very kind and helpful. 100/10 stars.
Jane S — Google review
What a unique and wonderful experience we had! They have a lot of things to do around the property! The pool and Tarzan swing was our favorite! The breakfast was great and even accommodated to my food allergy! You feel like family from the staff! There is nothing more enjoyable than listening and watching kids play!! Try it out!! It’s a core memory for sure!!
Sarah M — Google review
What an amazing experience! The tree houses are a piece of art! There’s more than a dozen tree houses to stay in. It’s really fun to walk across the sky, bridges and explore. The property has a lot of activity for kids, including zip lining and a giant swing this is an unforgettable experience And the staff was really great!
Bartellj — Google review
This was one of the coolest places I have ever stayed, especially as a kid. Would 100% recommend this thrilling and unique stay to anyone who is adventurous and not scared to feel the trees sway in the night!
Tristan R — Google review
My wife and I came here on our honeymoon, and we will DEFINITELY be coming back for anniversary's, with our future kid, and small family reunions. More details below. But really made this place unique and worth the stay was the experience. Almost all of the staff were very friendly, and so were the other visitors! We made friends with several people, including a family with several children. It felt like we came here and joined a mini forest community for a few days. It was so fun and we felt very welcomed. Obviously don't expect luxury, you're sleeping in the trees out in nature! But it was surprisingly comfortable. It wasn't camping. The houses are basically hotel rooms suspended in the trees. You have running water, ac and heat, etc. Only complaints was the 420 treehouses were hard to find, we weren't given good directions, it took us almost an hour to find them (even though they were just 15 min away from the main location). Though we really liked them because of how secluded they were. We don't smoke, and the place didn't smell at all unless you really tried to. This place is friendly for basically everyone. You will only be disappointed if you are expecting luxury, or a camping experience. Think of it more like a forest commune. Definitely recommend.
Trevor F — Google review
Absolutely amazing stay and would recommend to anyone trying to get away. People are friendly and helpful. The facilities are spacious and well cared for. There is little to no cell service but plenty to do (hike, rope swing, zip line, swim, play Cornhole, etc). A great place to relax and unwind. The treehouses themselves are fun and surprisingly comfortable. They are well built with a whimsical touch. Comfortable on the inside with all the amenities you need (water, bathroom, power, fridge, etc). The bed was comfortable and I had some amazing sleep feeling the breeze up in the air and the quiet of the forest. The kids loved it playing around the property and the glamping of cooking outside. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life or just take the family on a different type of glamping trip I definitely recommend this.

Bridgeview Vineyards Winery offers an incredible experience with a magical vacation rental that has unparalleled ambiance and atmosphere. Their wine is delicious and reasonably priced, while the staff at the tasting room is engaging and amiable. Returning to this hidden gem in Cave Junction is eagerly anticipated. The wine tasting may be slightly expensive, but the quality justifies it; however, a discount or waiver on the fee for purchasing multiple bottles would be appreciated.
One of the most peaceful wineries in the Illinois Valley with the best pondside view! They increased their food menu which has empanadas and little bites now 😋 Bridgeview also has an art gallery inside of their tasting room with local art that rotates out every 6 weeks AND a beautiful 2 bedroom rental above! My husband and I love to visit here every chance we can get and enjoy their award winning 🍷especially the brand new Rosé👌

We are staying at Out & About Treehouse Resort and took a little drive up today to visit the vineyard. We came and we stayed, and stayed and stayed a little longer. Loved the wine tasting (good variety of 8 wines), enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie board, and then beer and dessert. We enjoyed the patio, pond, friendly vineyard dog, and Cassie who did the pouring. Very comfortable environment, welcoming people. Thank you for a beautiful afternoon 🍷.

Foris Vineyards is an excellent winery to visit for wine enthusiasts or anyone interested in a great wine experience. The staff deserves commendation for their warm and knowledgeable assistance during the wine tasting. Engaging conversations were had while enjoying the group tasting in their inviting and well-informed tasting room. Despite a limited selection, their wines are full of rich flavors that leave a lasting impression. Don't miss out on trying their highly recommended Chardonnay.
Well worth a visit if you're in the area. Just a minor detour from the Oregon Caves. We brought our dog along and were promptly greeted by 2 doggies and friendly staff. Lots of shade available and several picnic tables made it great for a leisurely lunch. The wines are solid, with the whites grown locally. Prices are very reasonable as well. Perfect place to spend some relaxing time in Illinois valley.

Fantastic winery to visit for wine enthusiast or anyone. First off, let me tip my hat off to the staff here. The lady that helped us out with the wine tasting was warm and welcoming and knowledgable about the town and surrounding things to do. We had some great conversations while my group tasted there wine and i truly enjoyed my experience in there tasting room. They have a small selection of wines, but they pack a big punch in flavor. There Chardonnay is my favorite and is a must try. They also have spacious seating outside to enjoy a nice glass of wine and take in some scenery of the vineyard and the surrounding mountains

What a beautiful retreat! And more varieties of wine than what we see in local stores - all exquisite, even according to my very critical, professional wine-tasting friend (who has loyally worked for a very well known Oregon winery). Definitely worth the drive!

The low rating on this place is perplexing. Stoped by for a quick lunch with our family of 6. They expertly took our extremely large order, and our food arrived within 5 minutes of sitting down. They handed each of us our order as if this was a sit down establishments. Everything was correct also! Add that the place was clean and everything was stocked. The only minor inconvenience was that they were out of iced tea on a hot summer day. Best fast food stop I have had in MONTHS!

We just went there to get mostly a bunch of fries, onion rings, cheese curds and when I asked for 4 fry sauce she wanted to charge me almost $3 when I just spend $60 on all fries stuff. To me that’s insane. I asked her fry sauce won’t come with it she said no but definitely not in a nice way. Come on DQ I’m sure charging people for fries sauce is a joke on your end that’s not how you do it for your customers!!! Supposed to be about the customer not trying to take as much as you can from the customer what a joke!!!!

Took 25 minutes to get a small shake and had to ask them about it before they decided to make it. They just pumped out the drive through while 4 people inside waited for shakes for over 20 minutes. On top of that, my sister mentioned the last time she was here there were tons of flies. I thought how bad could it be? Well, she was right. Flies everywhere. I had to swat them away constantly so I could eat my burger and wait for my shake. Lol soooooo many flies. The other reviews are not exaggerating. Lol The food was good though, so that's a plus.

Had to change my review after my last visit. When you order a $7 banana split you expect their to be a spoon, napkins, a whole banana split in half. Not half a banana. Of all the ways to be cheap. Prices are way too high for barely edible food. If your employees hate their jobs so much and can't be bothered to give decent customer service, maybe fire them all and hire the guy sitting outside all the time. To the owner STOP BEING GREEDY AND CHEAP.

The cozy accommodations at the charming seasonal hotel, nestled in the beautiful Oregon Caves, offer warm and inviting rooms with picturesque mountain vistas. The staff provides exceptional service, and the historic Chateau impresses with its age and preservation of original features. As new owners are set to take over after this season, it is hoped that they will maintain much of the old-world charm while making essential updates to modern facilities such as plumbing and heating systems.
On our last visit there over 10 years ago, we ended up staying at the Chateau. I got a kick out of our son asking why there was no tv in the room. Dinner was great, I chose the Buffalo, and my wife went with the salmon. Both were good, and while there really isn't any other hotel, motel, or restaurant anywhere close by, we were on vacation and splurged. On our Cave Tour the next day, because one of the guides made a joke regarding our vehicle (Search & Rescue all over it). They took my wife and son up front and asked me to take the rear to make sure nobody got lost. This was just perfect for me, as I video taped and took pictures without anyone bothering me. The guides were absolutely great fun, and everyone at the Chateau treated us to a good time while we were there. I really like the remote area and the story of President Theodore Roosevelt establishing the Oregon Caves National Monument in 1909 to protect the caves from vandalism. After living in many different States and lots of time passed, we find it comforting the we ended up living within driving range of the Caves now. We will treasure our visit and upcoming visits, as there are many hiking trails around the mountain too.

We heard a rumor that the Chateau would be shutting down for a couple of years for needed renovations and decided to visit before it closed. We booked with other friends and made reservations for dinner. What a pleasant evening. The service was over the top. Even made a fire in the fireplace for us. We entertained ourselves (and probably everyone else in the lobby) playing Pictionary. It was great to be unchained from technology for the weekend. I was told the current leaseholder for the Chateau will not run the hotel when it reopens in two years, it will be taken over by a corporation. I hope the new company will keep up the exemplary customer service. On a slightly negative note...the mattresses were horrible, and the couple in the room next door never turned their light out, so light leaked out into our room. My husband and I kept falling into the center of the mattress. The room was very cold and under the blankets I was very warm. I could not get the temperature just right. Slept horrible, but the whole experience was amazing.
S G — Google review
It is being renovated but is still a cool building.
Wyatt P — Google review
It's truly a unique place. It's kind of like an old hotel sitting in a really isolated, but beautiful place. Our room wasn't what we really needed (very few power outlets, no AC, limited space in bathroom, creaky floors, and a queen bed...needed a king). The food in the restaurant was pretty good, and the waitresses were attentive. The evening "entertainment" was a local poet...I'd probably have to give him 1 star. It's not an inexpensive place, but I could see how it's charm could win you over.
Louis D — Google review
Like taking a step back in time, walking into this beautiful historic hotel is an absolute treat. We learned many people come to visit the Chateau without ever taking the few extra steps to tour the caves next door. We can understand why, as everything is so beautiful and the people so friendly at this property. Be forewarned - this property is closing for 2 years at the end of September 2018. We can only hope and pray that the renovations don't take away any of the historic charm this property has to offer. We can't wait to go back!
Chris — Google review
The staff was amazing! The Chateau is very old and historic. We love how they've kept so much original over the years. New owners are coming in at the end of this season and we really hope they keep most of the old charm while making the necessary upgrades to things like plumbing and heat.
Kristen S — Google review
Our main purpose in visiting the Oregon caves monument was primarily to visit the caves themselves, however we did visit the chateau while we were there. The chateau is definitely a historic landmark with a lot of classic charm. The building was old, but quite well updated in general and very cozy. The in house restaurant was classy and offered a great view looking down the gorge next to the chateau. There was a coffee shop and a gift shop there as well. The main room was quite picturesque and enchanting. There was a giant wood fireplace that was surrounded by comfortable seating. It would be a perfect seeing for a winter escape sitting by the fire reading a book curled up checking out the view as the snow feel outside.
Luke C — Google review
This is a neat place to stay, and way better than driving back down that road in the dark! The restaurant was good (a bit expensive) and our only complaint was the paper thin walls in the top-floor cheap rooms. We opened the window and let the sound of the waterfall drown out the noise. Overall lovely and very fun experience!

me and my partner decided to stop here on a whim after our trip to another nearby animal sanctuary. and wow we were blown away, the staff here was knowledgeable- and answered any questions we had on the cats. and the animals all looked super healthy and well cared for. this was honestly the highlight of our trip.
Rebecca D — Google review
This was a fantastic experience! Super informative, the cats were all very active and the tour guides were very fun, knowledgeable and you knew they loved their work. Also great because you can jump in and out of the tours at any time. We stop at most attractions we see on the road and this was a 10/10 for us. Our boys are 6 and 4. They both enjoyed it ,too!
Michelle S — Google review
Remarkable and one of a kind place. Staff are friendly and respectful. Staff are knowledgeable and admission comes with a free guided tour! As you are guided, they throw treats and the animals usually become more active and you can see them feet away from you and its crazy. Some of these animals only exist in captivity now or are severely endangered. Come see them and support! Gift shop is also awesome and this place is super kid friendly for the family!
Louis V — Google review
Didn’t realize there are tours- there was a note on website about getting to park a few hours before close and the tour is the reason why. The tour was great taking you through the park providing information and taking any questions on each cat that is on exhibit. By taking the tour you should be able to view each animal up and walking because they are provided food. Without the tour most cats would be sleeping in their favorite shade spot. No added cost for tour. My only concern is the larger cats may not have the amount of room a zoo would provide. All the animals appear to be healthy. Plenty of shade and water misters provided for both animal and tourist. Plenty of parking and a large gift shop.
Paul P — Google review
Decided to visit Cat world. Staff was very friendly. Very clean. Cats looked healthy and had plenty of room. Well maintained grounds. Small gift shop. We did self guided tours. Also available is tours with no extra cost. Tour length is 1.5 hours. Definitely would recommend if you are in the area. Not a bad price. Great for kids.

We so enjoyed seeing all the beautiful cats. The chance to be so much closer to them is an amazing experience. You can tell they are loved & cared for. What a treat!!! Also the shade system & benches provided for the people, is just a blessing!!! Thank you!!!

The Tiger Preservation Center is an unexpected stop on the way to Brookings that offers well-cared-for animals, particularly tigers and lions. Despite the small cages, this zoo stands out for its entertaining animal movement. Visitors recommend a visit to this family-friendly attraction. It provides an opportunity to see numerous amazing tigers and some lions, making it a great experience for kids. The guided tour around the center adds to the overall enjoyment of the visit.
My family and I loved visiting Tiger Preservation Center. We didn't know what to expect, but we got to see so many amazing Tigers and a few Lions. My kids had a blast, would definitely visit again. We enjoyed the guided tour around the whole place!

This was an unexpected stop. We were on our way to Brookings and stopped on the way to see it. The animals look well cared for. We got there at 5:30 pm. The tigers and lions were moving about and more fun to watch than any other zoo we've been too. The cages are on the small side to be sure. I recommend visiting

Nature preserve
Rusk Ranch Nature Center is a delightful destination for families with children. The admission cost is affordable and contributes to the conservation of butterflies by disseminating native milkweed plants in the surrounding region. Additionally, they provide educational programs during the summer months. This local treasure offers an enriching experience for visitors of all ages, making it a valuable asset to the community.
I visited here with my wife and our 6 year old son, along with my brother and his wife and their 2 year old son. Lots of interesting things to do in this nature center including banging on drums, playing with water from a hand pump, exploring a butterfly garden and seeing multiple different animals. They also have a slide down a hillside of dirt. The kiddos definitely spent the most time playing with the water.
Robert R — Google review
A gem of a spot, especially for kids of all ages. We will definitely be coming back throughout the season to see what kinds of butterflies are in the pavilion (we saw painted ladies in late May) and how the tadpoles have grown in the Frog Den. The gardening throughout the center is quite lovely and focuses on native pollinator and butterfly-friendly flowers and plants. The nature playground is incredible and is more like an outdoor, hands-on children’s museum. Beautiful, thoughtful play and learn areas include a shaded sandbox, a water cycle play area, a puppet theater with its own handmade life-size wooden dragon prop and cloth puppets, upcycled materials musical instruments, fairy gardens, and a slide and tunnel play area. There was a scavenger hunt and wildlife tracking game for older kids. We could have spent hours there. Can’t wait to return and support this wonderful educational center!

Beautiful little spot. The worker there was wonderful. Unfortunately when we went they just had a recent incident with the butterfly inclosure but accepted donations instead of paying. Got to see some monarch butterflies and some carnivorous pitcher plants. Many wildflowers and plants propagating. Worth a stop if in area !!!!

Very nice. Was given a Caterpillar when i purchased a butterfly weed. This is what became of it. Shared this experience with my 7 year old grandson and we loved it. She is now set free.

Barely any butterflies. The "natural playground" and mini golf course were built in a poison oak infested area, and the mosquitos were terrible.

Quite melancholic. Previous memories sacrificed for progress. Recollecting former photography endeavor dubbed 'Seasons at the Forks', from approximately 6 or 7 years ago. Regretfully, all was forfeited when my antiquated samsung laptop fell victim to theft, along with the SD cards and external hard drive it contained. (NOT FROM PARK) Appreciate the images, though I haven't yet curated the superior ones.
Wildlife abounds and everyone you see is behaving and just having a good time. The park host keeps it in tip top shape.

I use 2 come here when i young. All through life actually its been a draw 4 me. Its nostalgic almost therapeutic 4 me now. Its changed a lot. Its fee area now & has a host they added a frisbee golf course. Good trails 4 dog walking & the golf i guess.

It is so beautiful here with a lot of places off the trail to get to the river. The water is clear, slow, and shallow enough for kids to enjoy. The trail is well maintained.

Kinda sad. Old memories lost to progress. Remembering old photo project was working on. 'Seasons at the Forks'. That was 6 or 7 years ago. Lost it all when my old samsung laptop was stolen. Had all my SD cards and portable hard drive with it. (NOT FROM PARK) Enjoy pics, not posing the better ones yet.

The Oregon Caves Illinois Valley Visitor Center is a charming and convenient stop for those planning to explore the region's natural wonders. Visitors can obtain same-day cave tour reservations from friendly and helpful rangers at the center, ensuring a smooth experience. The center also offers clean facilities, parking for large vehicles, and a small gift shop. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to purchase a Senior National Park Pass without having to do so online.
We did the candlelight tour, it was really cool and since we've been in loud of other caves tours with some guided and some not this was a new experience. The park tour guide did a great job and we have a fun time. If you are camping, I'd recommend staying at the Cave Creek campground that is about 3-4 miles from the caves on the way up.

Stopped in before opening to get in line for the first cave tour of the day. Kay was great managing the large group that also wanted tour tickets, getting us tickets for the 10am tour and then getting the folx that showed up after us tickets- first come, first served. The national park stamp and map are easily obtainable inside. There is a small selection of gifts/ items, just not a lot of what we’re usually looking for. Great interpretive panels outside. Good starting point if you’re headed out to the cave.

It is very convenient that this place is in town instead of all the way up at the caves so that visitors don’t have to travel very far to get the information they need and to make reservations. The park ranger who was operating this center was very helpful and answered all my questions. Very friendly and knowledgeable! I’m looking forward to my visit to the caves!!

Great selection of fun children's games with National Park themes. Some plush stuffed animals available, beautiful post cards, books, workbooks, keychains, some jewelry and lots of great Park themed stickers. Very clean public restrooms. When you donate a little extra, you will be supporting research into the care of bats.

FYI No tours on Tues or Wed as of July 1 2025, not the parks fault but still sucks... Support our national parks!

Although this is a smaller visitor center, it is well maintained and a good stopping point before adventuring through the area. There is an area outside with information and history, a lot of brochures for places nearby, local events posted on the wall, and a lot of interesting books. The woman working the counter was very nice.

The service at Sushi Asian Cuisine is exceptional, starting from the moment you enter the restaurant. Their menu offers a wide variety of options to choose from, making it difficult to decide. To fully experience their offerings, it's recommended to try multiple sushi rolls and the popular General Tso's chicken. Each dish is delicious and deciding on a favorite becomes a challenge. Additionally, you get great value for your money here; definitely worth the drive and stop!
I tried this place for the first time with my family and we all loved it! We live in New York City and so are well acquainted with how good sushi should taste and this place is amazing!!! Very high quality ingredients, masterfully put together, and delivered with excellent customer service. Even our six year old son loved it!! We got the Las Vegas, Caterpillar, Salmon Tempura, and Salmon Roll. So good!! We will definitely be coming back again!!

For us, it's 32 miles to either drive to Crescent City in California or drive up to Grants Pass Oregon. So stopping here and eating local turns out to be quite a surprise and good food. Prices are not bad, and it beats take out from a food truck because you can dine inside.

There have been new owners at Asian Cuisine, and I've been there four times. Once was really good, once was ok, once was pretty bad, and once was bad. I live in Cave Junction though, where the options are sparse, so I'll be back. The service is great. Each interaction with employees, whether over the phone or in person, has left me feeling satisfied. If only they would knock down the former motel next door, it would go a long way towards the atmosphere

Service was amazing from the moment we stepped in. Lots of menu selection. It was hard to choose, so we got three sushi rolls to try and general tso's chicken, of course.
