Ladder 1 Grill, a cozy establishment set in a converted firehouse, offers an array of classic American fare such as steaks, burgers, and more. Highly recommended by local businesses, this charming restaurant has garnered praise for its friendly staff and welcoming ambiance. Despite not capturing images of their scrumptious dishes due to overwhelming hunger, satisfied patrons have raved about the delectable roast beef sandwich and Cobb salad options.
Very cozy spot. The bottom area was really nice. Got Reuben sandwich which was delicious. Their chilli was hearty. My sister got grilled chicken burger which was good. Their honey mustard was thick and delicious with fries. The funny part was their upstairs' vibe. My sister and I both thought it had an eerie feeling to it. Almost like haunted house vibes 😂 Either way, the food was good and so was service.

Was in town and met an old friend for lunch. The ambiance is just awesome with the history of being an old firehouse. I walked around the second floor and you can spend the night here and would love to do it if the opportunity presented itself. We both ordered the burger as the server mentioned they get fresh ground beef everyday. That sold us. Both of us were not impressed with the burger. I felt it needs to be seasoned better. I had the salad instead of the fries. It’s grass what can I say. Not the star. I would go again if I’m the area.
Michael B — Google review
French onion soup was delicious. A little salty, but that's how I like it! Shepherds pie was very tasty but a somewhat small portion. (It was very good and I would have liked more.) Huge salad came with it with a chunk of toasted bread which was really good.
Ann K — Google review
This place was so cool. It had been the main firehouse un to a new ladder truck was purchased and it was too big for the firehouse. A new one was built. The 100 year old firehouse was purchased, gutted, and restored into a restaurant. This space has Inn space upstairs as well. The food here is delicious. The atmosphere is fabulous. The decor is beautiful. I ordered the turkey burger with battered fries for my main. My hubby order the fish and chips. We started with a house salad to split. Everything we had was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu. He was able to make suggestions when asked. We loved all the firehouse memorabilia hanging on the wall. The craftsmanship of the building was left intact. As part of the experience, patrons are encourage to look around. The washrooms are super clean. One is upstairs and one is downstairs.
Debbie M — Google review
The atmosphere was pretty cool. A lot of history to look at. We were here as soon as it opened so it wasn’t crowded at all. This place lies in a small town with a traffic problem! Downtown can get very congested! Anyway, the food and service were all great. But what really sets this place apart is the location. Can’t beat having a good meal in an old fire house. Loads of things to look at. If you’re coming mainly for the venue, get there early when no one else is there yet so you can wonder around and look at all the photos without bothering others.
Tom M — Google review
Wow what a great place full of Barre history and very happy to tell you all about it. The firehouse is authentic Queen Anne building with granite outside and Italian ceramic tile and wood work inside. The food was awesome but the service was absolutely wonderful.
Theresa R — Google review
The burger, decorations, and atmosphere was amazing. They also had live music while I was there. I'm looking forwarding to going back to try more of the menu.

Our waiter told us the history of this firehouse, which was very interesting. We shared a pizza, which was excellent!

The Barre Opera House, a reconstruction of the original building that was destroyed by fire, has a rich history dating back over 100 years. Initially accommodating over 1,000 patrons when it was built in 1898, the opera house eventually fell into disuse and closed its doors in 1944. Nearby attractions include Hope Cemetery with its unique granite memorials and the renowned Robert Burns Monument.
BOB MARLEY WAS AWESOME! Too bad we couldn't video or take photos during the show...But The Barre Opera was a really nice place to see this show or another I hope to revisit again.

Great venue. Large and roomy but still small enough to be an intimate setting with the performers. I can't believe that was my first time there! I will be attending more shows now that I know how great it is!

I would describe the experience only as: Ohio. (Great) The seats are more comfortable than a family heirloom velvet puffy quality recliner. The sound system is quite frankly, skibidi! (Good) All in all; I'd give it a livvy Dunn out of Kai cenat! (4/5)

The Opera House is always an amazing experience in such a historical venue. Management is a great job of keeping this place looking and feeling amazing. The upgraded seats from the recent renovations are nicer to sit in as well.

We love going to the Barre Opera House for ballets. The seating area is beautiful, the air conditioning is nice and cool, and the view is good from every spot. There are a number of wheel chair seating locations in the theater and the elevator goes to the main seating, though not to the balcony. Bathrooms are on both levels

Gusto's is a restaurant that caught the attention of my companion and me recently when we were seeking a late-night dining option. Despite initial reservations about its exterior and lively music, my partner decided to return home. However, the sight of schnitzel on their menu left an impression on us both. Today, I ventured there alone for a takeout lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the delectable flavors they offered.
Look, this is a great place. Go early, the food is good, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Don't be a jerk and taste this incorrectly. How many places can you go, have a decent meal, a couple of drinks, and leave for $50? This one!
Mark A — Google review
I’m writing this review because of a distasteful event i witnessed occur with my best friend. I had every intention on visiting this establishment as my friend showed me all the things this bar had to offer. It truly seemed like a nice place to meet people, enjoy the company of others, the food, and a decently priced drink. However, after witnessing the profiling and unjust behavior my friend received, as well as reading other reviews from people receiving similar behaviors, I no longer have no desire to ever visit this establishment. It is 2025 and I am in disbelief at how hurtful and mean people can be over a simple miscommunication especially when you provide service to patrons. My friend was instructed to leave the bar because of a private conversation that he was having with two individuals at the bar, while just being friendly. All of a sudden, unprovoked a RUDE bartender took it upon herself to insert herself into their conversation with what I’m guessing was her own personal bias. Even as my friend tried to explain to this bartender that his conversation was not of malicious intent or to be taken in offense, she proceeded to get security and tell him he had to leave. In his explanation the bartender made many assumptions which to me seemed very much fueled by racial and sexual bias, as she did not know my friend at all and prior to this day he had never been there! I truly felt so disturbed and upset by what i witnessed happen to my friend. My advice is if you’re looking to be rudely treated, profiled, and not accepted by staff then this is the place to be as this place seems to cater to locals who visit often rather than newcomers.
Ebony N — Google review
Service wasn't the best I've had, difficult to get bartenders attention unless you're sitting at the bar. Drinks were decent. Had to pay to get in the door although the band wasn't even playing, the jukebox was still going the entire time I was there. Young rowdy crowd that likes to cause commotion.
Andy M — Google review
Average dive bar. The bartenders are friendly but serve poor-quality drinks in the wrong glasses. On a Friday night there was no music (not even over speakers) until 10pm when a pretty awful laptop-DJ came on. Good place for locals if you're looking for a dive bar, and it's definitely more fun on holiday weekends.

This place was incredible, my wife and I came for dinner at the suggestion of a friend but stayed for the atmosphere until late!. The staff was friendly and prompt even though they were slammed. The food was awesome and the drinks were great! 10/10 it’s not often that you find a place that has great food, service and atmosphere! 👍🏼

So my partner and I first heard of Gusto’s a few weeks ago when we had friends visiting and we were looking for a restaurant that was open past 8 pm on a Wednesday lol. My partner was pretty intimidated by the exterior and loud music so we decided to go home. After seeing schnitzel on the menu, I’ve had schnitzel brain since then. I decided to grab a late lunch to-go by myself today and the food was super tasty! Will definitely be back

Paramount Theatre

Movie theater
Paramount Theatre in Barre is a long-standing movie theater with two screens that showcase new releases with high-quality digital picture and sound. Although it used to be a majestic art deco balcony theatre for opera, it now offers comfortable seating and a cozy atmosphere for enjoying movies. The staff is known for their friendliness and helpfulness, making the experience even more enjoyable. Additionally, the theater offers a good selection of beverages to enhance your movie-watching experience.
Been here twice in the last year and would happily go back. The woman selling tickets was SO lovely!!! So kind and helpful and just upbeat. Put a smile on our faces. We’ll try to frequent more often for sure.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. The last 3 times I've been there each time the electronic stuff is working right. Ever since the old guy has become the manager there it has been nothing but problems. One time he couldn't figure out how to get the credit card machines to work so if you didn't have cash no sale. Another he couldn't get the soda dispenser working right so only could buy water or alcohol. This last time the movie had sound and no picture.
Daniel J — Google review
What an interesting little hole-in-the-wall theater! I felt lucky to experience an original, no-frills movie spot — no fancy extras, just the charm of a classic theater. It opens just minutes before showtime for both ticket purchases and snacks, which include a nice bonus: they serve alcohol! Yvette, the young lady running the show, was super helpful and even gave us some great local recommendations for the rest of our stay. Thanks, Yvette!
Yvia P — Google review
There very expensive! Had NO popcorn and they didn’t tell you til after you purchased tickets! The theater stunk and seats are very small my 14 year old had to squeeze as well as my husband! Go to Montpelier
Tamara H — Google review
The tickets were reasonably priced, but the theater was awful. No AC, no bathrooms, everything smelled like mildew, there are no diabetic-friendly snacks at concessions, no water bottles. The cashier's point-of-sale machine for tickets was broken, so it was a good thing I bought my tickets online. I doubt I'll go to this theater again.
Seras R — Google review
Like this theater a lot. It's pretty local for us. It's not Williston so can't give a 5 star review but for our area it's great.
Katherine L — Google review
Was majestic until split up. Was a glorious art deco balcony theatre fit for opera but it and the Capitol show movies but used be Grand Movie Palaces to showcase Hollywoods finest. I did get to see Alien in the big theater so 79.
Timothy T — Google review
Small 2 screen theater with good audio and video quality, fair prices. For the small town theater you don't get stadium reclining seats, they don't have a wine or burger bar, if you want that go to Burlington. I

Coffee shop
I recently relocated to this area and Espresso Bueno quickly became my husband's and my favorite spot in town. Being from the southwest, it can be challenging to find places in the northeast that offer authentic southwestern flavors. However, this coffee shop not only satisfies our cravings but also provides excellent coffee and a trendy atmosphere. We always order their chipotle breakfast tacos, while my husband opts for one of their flavorful burritos.
My first morning office and it was very nice. I stayed here four hours, arriving at 7am when they opened and leaving at around 11am. I know it was that long because the limit on the parking meters is two hours and I moved from one in the front to one in the back. Inside, comfortable seating and a fantastic coffee. I started off with a simple cortado that was excellent. Just the right mix of coffee and steamed (not foamed!) milk. The second drip coffee was also rich and delicious. Great service, a neat little hangout here in Barre that was excellent for working on my laptop. Five stars!
Bruce K — Google review
My wife and I love stopping by this local café—our go-to for delicious lattes every time. Their croissants are amazing, especially the chocolate ones! Always a great taste and friendly service. Definitely a spot we’ll keep coming back to.
Jon L — Google review
Cute cafe with plenty of seating of different styles, chairs, stools, benches. A lot of things to order but actually many things are not stocked. Very long line for simple cappuccino on a Saturday morning 10am
Rahul J — Google review
Awesome espresso bar - friendly people, great prices, right in the center of Barre. I got the cafe con panna with maple whipped cream (fresh!) and it was great.
Blake R — Google review
Espresso Bueno has become one of my go-to spots and for good reason. I have been here quite a few times, and every visit has been consistently enjoyable. The service is always friendly and efficient, with a relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay a while. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, perfect for catching up with friends, getting a bit of work done, or just enjoying a quiet moment with a good drink. There's a genuine local charm here that sets it apart from your typical coffee shop. My usual order is the Chai Tea Latte – their house-made chai sweetened with maple syrup and steamed with oat milk. It’s rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. On warmer days, I will switch it up with the Bueno Smoothie, which is just as delicious and refreshing. I often pair my drink with one of their fresh pastries. usually a scone and it always hits the spot. The food is thoughtfully prepared, and the menu offers a great variety of light meals and snacks that cater to different dietary preferences. Espresso Bueno has a way of making you feel like part of the community, and I always look forward to my next visit. Highly recommended!
J. M — Google review
Me and my two best friends came to Vermont to visit from Texas. Out of all of the coffee shops we went to in Stowe, Burlington, and Woodstock, espresso bueno blew it out of the water. I will not stop thinking about the morning glory muffin. The breakfast croissant had the most delicious, flakey bread. The coffee was always great. Very reasonable prices too.
Santina S — Google review
I'm not sensitive to gluten, and I ordered the Morning Glory muffin not realizing it was gluten free. It was soooo good!!! Now I get it every day. I love this coffee shop!

Staff is rude. They’re not afraid to publicly humiliate their customers for simple miscommunications. They also like to delete reviews that give any negative feedback instead of owning up for their mistakes and apologizing.

I visited Morse Block Deli & Taps, a restaurant in Vermont, and enjoyed their Vermonter sandwich. It had a delicious blend of flavors with a hint of sweetness from the apples and perfectly toasted bread. The ginger sweet potato soup provided a well-balanced mix of ginger and sweet potato that was not overpowering. The food was fresh and locally sourced, including their tasty cookies. Adam, one of the staff members, was friendly and cool.
Morse Block catered both my rehearsal dinner and wedding meal. First and foremost, the food was exceptional! The team went above and beyond to make sure flavors were complementary and appetizing. Let's be honest, sometimes wedding meals can be a little dull, but that was NOT the case here! Many of our guests told us the food was amazing. And now let's talk about the fantastic service. The Morse Block team was organized with all of our logistics prior and during events. The team that prepped and served the meals were just phenomenal. Guys, it was HOT not one but both days during my wedding weekend. I know it hurt, but our caterers did not show it. They were professional, personable, and just all around pleasant to be around. Highly recommend using them for their next event!

I finally got to check this deli out. I appreciate the kind and welcoming service. Good selection of beverages and unique delicious thoughtful dish and bites options. The food was fresh and had great savory taste. I could tell my breakfast sandwich was made with love. I like the feeling here. Great spot.

Very rare in New England, Morse Block is a business that understands the art of culinary alchemy. The history of great culinary discovery and tradition is exemplified by these fantastic artisans. Vermont needs more Morse Block. And post-pandemic, the US needs to remember how food tastes, what ingredients are, and how to properly prepare fine ingredients. All of this and more is executed expertly at Morse Block Deli.
J A — Google review
This was hands down, the best sandwich I’ve ever had. They know how to do it here!
Taylor A — Google review
Morse Block! I’ve lived here for a while and never made it in. Oh my goodness, what a treat! My father took me to Little Italy in San Diego when I was younger and we ate as many Italian subs as we could get our hands on. I’ve never experienced another fantastic Italian sandwich like that until I came here. It came out on a toasted sesame grinder and it was HUGE. Id definitely call it a “12 inch sub”. It had the perfectly shredded thin lettuce, a perfect ratio of oil and vinegar, beautiful sweet and spicy peppers and the meat was cut right in front of me and tasted like magic. This Sandwhich was 10/10! We also got the kombucha on yap and it was fantastic, albeit a bit crazy priced… probably my only issue was 8$ kombucha on tap when it’s like 3.50 in the store… but it tasted great!
Brooke M — Google review
This was the first time I ordered from them and I won’t be doing it again. I understand that prices for everything have gone up, but $15 for the turkey sandwich I got was not worth it. There was not even a full serving of turkey on the sandwich (which is 3oz) and there was one piece of cheese that didn’t even cover the whole thing. I also ordered online and asked for no onions, and there was onions in my sandwich, and everyone who is anti raw onions knows that even if you pick them off the sandwich still has an onion taste. Also, ordering online says it’s supposed to be free, but they charged me a service charge. I’m not 100% sure if that was for online ordering through Square, but asking me to tip on top of that is insane. The food itself tastes good, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. But again, not worth the price for a sandwich that was mostly lettuce and bread.
Lydia V — Google review
Best sandwich in VT. Get the roast beef. You won't be disappointed. The vibe here. The culture. The food. The energy. It's Vermont. I love these people, and I love their deli. Thanks for always making my day when I bite into your sandwiches!!!
Colin W — Google review
I had a Vermonter, and it was great. Great quantity of meat and the apple gives it a great crunch. When I went to pick it up my sandwich there was only one man working. My heart goes out to him because his silent stress was loud. He was so kind and apologetic for being a few minutes late.

Si Aku Ramen is a favorite spot for my spouse and me, although we wish we could visit more frequently. My partner adores their ramen, while I am infatuated with their Pad Tai dish. The vegetables taste incredibly fresh, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. I greatly appreciated the chef's inquiry about adding eggs and peanuts to the Pad Thai since I usually can't get enough of either ingredient.
Delicious food, generous portions, will definitely be going again. I got the tonkatsu, my mum got the spicy Korean bowl. Next time I really want to try the Vietnamese beef pho.

10/10 highly recommend this spot for authentic Ramen and Pork Bao buns. Very friendly service and no waiting to be seated. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious 😋

One of our favorite restaurants in Barre. Authentic cuisine served with care and attention to detail. Every dish has exceeded our expectations and we always have leftovers to enjoy later. Hours are somewhat limited so make plans in advance.
Emily R — Google review
finally had the chance to visit Si Aku Ramen after hearing rave reviews from several friends and I have to say, it absolutely lived up to the hype! From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place was special. It’s a cozy, family-owned restaurant with a warm and welcoming vibe that makes you feel like you're stepping into someone’s home for a comforting meal. I ordered the Sensei Chicken Special, and it was incredible. The broth was rich and flavorful, the chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the veggies and egg brought everything together beautifully. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and prepared with care. The service was exceptional friendly, attentive, and you could sense the pride they take in both their food and hospitality. The staff made sure everything was just right, and even offered great recommendations for first-timers. The ambiance is chill and inviting, with a clean, minimalist aesthetic and a few personal touches that reflect the family’s story and culture. It’s the kind of place you will want to come back to often, whether you’re dining solo or with friends. If you're a ramen lover or even if you’re just ramen-curious, Si Aku Ramen is a must-visit. I am already planning my next trip!

First time going there tonight. It was delicious. The owner/one of the cooks (not sure which roll he had) came out and explained what the different dinners and specials were. All sounded good. And the one I picked was pretty darn amazing. Everyone who worked there were very pleasant!

I wouldn’t consider myself a ramen expert but I know good food when I taste it and this ramen is outstanding. From the broth to the noodles and toppings, nothing disappoints. We’ve already gone twice this week! Price range I selected is for 2 people but ramen is between $12.95-14.95 per bowl.

Pizza restaurant
Basil's Pizzeria & Restaurant in Barre, Vermont offers a taste of Philadelphia and New York with their delicious Philly cheese steaks and New York-styled pizzas. The restaurant is known for its friendly staff and tasty menu items like calzones, hot Pastrami subs, pizzas, French fries, and chicken fingers. While the plaza where the restaurant is located could use some improvement, customers have had positive dining experiences at Basil's.
Passing through town 7pm on a Sunday, not much open. Dropped in for a slice ended up with a FANTASTIC pizza! The Mediterranean has fresh basil, fresh spinach, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and BACON. Great flavor combination over a red sauce. Also offers carrot cake, lava cake and a cooler of ice cream half pints. Can’t wait to come back
Krista C — Google review
This is not a bad place to eat. The plaza that the restaurant is located in could use a massive refreshing as it does look a little rough around the edges. The lady who took our food order was polite and very friendly. I have dined here several times trying different things on the menu and one of my favorite things is the calzone. I do enjoy the hot Pastrami sub as well. They serve up a pizza which is extremely tasty. All around positive experience.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside (or inside to be fair) but this is the best pizza I’ve had in the state of Vermont. I grew up near NYC and have high standards for NY style pizza and this is 100% the place to go.

" oh I'm sorry sir, I'll try to do better next time" well how does that make up for this time? "Well I could give you a couple dollars off your next order" how about you give me my meal next time? "Well I cant do that without asking a manager" So like really, i need to tell you to talk to your manager to give me what I just asked for? So I'll just post this for all to see! I simply wanted lettuce instead of onions! Oh!!! And this is not medium cooked!!!! Looks like it's time to get people who know the menu, And people that know how to cook!!! Update: Recalled after an unsuccessful first attempt wanting to speak directly to manager or owner. Was able to do so and made the situation whole! Thank you.

If you like cheap tasting greasey pizza that is way over priced ($15 per pizza) for the quality, this is the place for you. We ordered 2 medium speciality pizzas, and they were swimming in grease (see pictures), not only were they greasey they lacked flavor, and the ham was just lunch meat and barely got warmed. The bottoms were dark and top undercooked.

They offer great eats at reasonable prices. I'm a fan of their massive size calzones! I also appreciate their door to car pickup.

Good god where do I start. We have attempted to eat at Basil's multiple times and things just go wrong each and every time; if you order online their credit card system will (and has to us) double charge. Refunds are a nightmare if you pay by card, multiple days to refund. We have ordered delivery previously and has taken an hour to and hour and a half for the food. We went in today & none of the prices match what's on the menu. (we ordered two entree, ea. Priced at $10.99 and were charged for $14.99 ea.) Staff did not tell us this until after my card was run and requested an itemized receipt. Food quality wise, it's good. No issue with quality of food just that it's way too expensive for what it is. If you want to spend a premium AND get *GREAT* food. Go elsewhere.

I waited in the parking lot for over 30 minutes after they told me the order would be ready the last time I was there. No worries, everyone deserves another chance. After placing my order this time I was told the delivery would be 90 minutes, but if I picked it up it would be ready by 7:30 pm. I asked if she was sure it would be and the reply I got was "yes, we're not that busy." After arriving at 7:30 pm, I left at 8:15 pm. While waiting, one of the girls came out with another order and I asked her if she could check and give me a e.t.a for my order, she never came back out. Three girls inside standing around doing nothing, but they couldn't come out and tell me or everyone else waiting why the orders were taking so long. When I finally received my order I told her I would never come back. She just smiled and laughed. The food is average at best, but acceptable. The help is pathetic at best and not acceptable. The worse part is that they have no idea what customer service means, nor seem to care.

I visited Simply Subs to purchase my favorite menu item, cordon Bleu bites. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they had replaced the frozen bites with freshly made chicken cordon Bleu rolls prepared in-house. These new rolls are incredibly delicious! The chicken is tender and succulent, while the ham and cheese add a lot of flavor. The outer crust is crispy and perfectly cooked, unlike the dryness often found in frozen bites.
Visiting from Florida everything I’ve tried so far is awesome freaking awesome! Been here a week already I’ve eaten here three times.. the Rueben egg rolls and fried Mac are phenomenal.. best fried cod I’ve had in years💜

I threw a surprise birthday party for my husband and had an amazing experience with Simply Subs.. They guided me on how I should order to saved me some money. My guests (almost 30 people) commented on how good the food was. I had them do appetizers, an Italian meal of lasagna, meatballs, chicken parmesan, salad and desert platters. I would highly recommend them for any event!

Ordered a BLT at 14.50 and received a bacon cheese and onion no lettuce or tomatoes. Don't waste your money. When we asked for a new sandwich or our money back they refused and offered a five dollar credit on out next order. I will never order from this place agian and recommend nobody orders from here.

I just bought a Ruben sandwich, large French onion soup, large bag of chips, and a raspberry slice of cheesecake, = 28$ the sandwich was made on regular size sliced rye. I am trying to figure out if the sandwich was 10$, the soup 10$ the chips 4$ and dessert 4$ .....if so this is not a 10$ sandwich or 10$ soup. when he brought out the sandwich i was thinking to myself "that looks small" and " why did that little thing take so long?". I was charged before it was brought out. 10$ for a sandwich that doesn't measure 6 inches, I'll gladly pay 5$ for a footlong at subway. Will not be going back here again.

Nestled in Barre, Vermont, the Largest Zipper in North America is a quirky and captivating landmark that draws visitors of all ages. This remarkable sculpture, crafted from native granite by artist Chris Miller in 2014, stretches an impressive 74 feet along a narrow alleyway. Titled "Unzipping the Earth," it features vibrant perennials that add a splash of color during the summer months.
No "frank and beans" here, World's Largest Granite Zipper Sculpture (according to the World Record Academy) includes perennials ready to be zipped up. It is built of blocks of native granite with the zipper extends along the ground for 74 feet down this narrow alley. Artist Chris Miller named it "Unzipping the Earth," and has planted the flowers. For scale, it would need to be attached to a 450-foot-long pair of pants but no trousers are here. It is next to the Studio Place Arts building here in Barre (aka Granite City). The pocket park is open 24 hours but is not lit at night. The Vermont Granite Museum is nearby.

It is ok. I only went to see it bc I was in the area and I try to do as many atlas obscura things as I can while I am travelling. Its not that interesting. What are more interesting are the other sculptures displayed on the main street

A nice detour on the way to Hope cemetery. It's not a must see but if you're already in Barre it's worth a look.

It's a nice stop but wouldn't plan a whole trip around it. It's an sculpture tucked in between building 219 and 201, covered with grass and flowers. It's a good photo opportunity.

Cool sight in the Granite State. Gotta look carefully for it cause it's tucked in between two buildings. The other granite statues there are really cool too

I mean it is a granite zipper, not exactly like the fly on your pants. It is tucked away between two buildings. It is really long with lots of flowers in the summer time. If you get tired there is a Granite seat...

Natural History Museums
The Vermont Granite Museum, established in 1994 through a collaborative effort of over 300 Vermont citizens, is housed in the former Jones Brothers Manufacturing plant and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Situated in Barre, Vermont, this museum offers an immersive experience for those intrigued by the history and artistry of the granite industry. Visitors can explore captivating exhibits, take tours, participate in workshops, and enjoy seasonal events.
So much could be said about a visit experience at a well kept secret. In comparison to other venerable sites that present and celebrate aspects of Vermont's industrial heritage, this place announces how special it is upon one's arrival. The exterior structure of the Granite Museum is not just intact. It is in exemplary condition. Inside is an endless and well documented presentation of countless photos, artifacts, sculptures, craft and the artistry, culture, history and people at the heart of the granite industry in Vermont. Accounted for in addition to the industrial barons who initiated and directed the enterprise are the skilled immigrant stone cutters, masons, sculptors and workers who pit themselves against the challenges to be surmounted in transforming the stone from its natural state to the near endless forms it takes in service to civiization. Most fortunate we were to enter the sculpting studio where we met and spoke at length to Chris Miller, the veritable dean of Vermont sculptors. Mr. Miller permitted us to witness his technique in moving a huge granite slab onto three pillars that were major features of a commission on which he was progressing. Now that's entertainment!

Nice museum with interesting information about the granite industry in Vermont. Also, it was great to see and hear how a model is turned into a sculpture. I would love to see a slightly more guided approach to the museum aka a path through it. Personally, more technical explanations for tooling and machines would be nice. Tickets are cash only or via an online donation form.

Very well curated museum that tells the history and industry of granite production in Vermont from tools used, labor conditions and immigrant groups that joined the workforce in the early 1900s. Ms. Sue is a knowledgeable and pleasant museum guide that made the visit even more special! Thank you!

We visited the Vermont Granite Museum for a guided tour. It was interesting to hear the history and process of the granite industry and how granite is processed from the quarry into headstones, statues, etc. The 2 gentlemen who did the tour were very knowledgeable and definitely passionate about what they do!

We were fortunate to have arrived in time to catch most of Scott’s tour. He is an amazing wealth of knowledge about the history, use and artistry of granite. The history along with the artists studio are perfect companions. You get to learn about the history of Barre and see what’s being created with the artists in residence. Highly recommend!!

People were so friendly! We were happily surprised the artist studio was connected to the museum and the sculptors were very engaging. The history of the people of Barre, the tools and sculpture was interesting. I wish there was more about the geology.

The Vermont Historical Society Museum, located in a converted mansion, is a captivating journey through the rich history of Vermont. The museum features interactive exhibits and informative displays that delve into various aspects of Vermont's heritage, from its Native American roots to its present-day industries. Visitors can explore the state's involvement in national events like the Civil War and the Revolutionary War. The museum aims to educate and inspire visitors about Vermont's diverse history, making it an essential stop for both locals and tourists alike.
We had a great time here. We did have some trouble understanding where to park but the lady at the desk was super helpful. She was also very kind and friendly and gave us a brief preview of the museum. If you are in the Montpelier downtown, come and visit and also support Vermont history.

This is a neat little museum in the capital city of Vermont! The displays cover virtually every topic in the state of Vermont's history. Some of the displays are setup with kids in mind. Many of the displays are well researched and have much reading material with them. Excellent artifacts and visuals in the museum. You could easily spend an hour or more in here. Price for entry is only $7. Definitely worth a visit.

Compact, engaging full history of Vermont and the events and folks that shaped our present day life. Touch and see on one level. Kid friendly, quiet and approachable, roll/walk-through exhibits. Nice way to enlighten, for $7 admission. Small gift shop has something relevant at every price point too; books, posters, toys, and more. On-street parking right out front, right next to the Capital.
Amber F — Google review
As an flatlander, out of state person, I thought the museum gave a great overview of VT over nearly a 400 year period. The displays were professional and the signage’s sufficient to understand what is to be interpreted. I would recommend for all ages.
Dan H — Google review
This museum offers many interesting facts and artifacts about Vermont but collectively needs to be reimagined for today’s visitors. Newer installations and probably rotating the permanent collections would help but would require generous financial support. History buffs, nonetheless, would be delighted.
Augusto P — Google review
We got in for free during an event day offering free admission which was really great for us. We travel full time so paying for tons of museums and outings can add up. It’s a small museum but decently done. I do wonder if there could be a little more local vermont history or more detailed history Added around. Some was more broad and general stuff that most anyone would know. Sure sheep and cows and such were used for farming. But I would have liked a little more in depth history on things and how things were done in vermont compared to other states. How roads were carved and built in and through/around the mountains. History of covered bridges, maple farms, quarries etc. but I also admit I was a bit rushed on a time crunch before closing so it is possible I rushed pass some of these things without realizing. Overall it was a nice museum and laid out in a horseshoe so it was easy to walk through. But this is a huge building. It would be nice to have more floors of history to explore. Looking at the pricing it seems fairly priced for what is here. $7 an adult, $5 kids and seniors and under 6 free, $20 for families. I also bought some nice postcards in the giftshop.
E N — Google review
Wonderful small museum with an eclectic mix of art and Vermont History exhibits, and some surprising Vermont history. I wasn't going for the gift shop, but the website touts it, so I'll include that it's tiny and you won't find much or anything very unique.

The Quarry Kitchen & Spirits is a pleasant establishment with ample seating and an extensive bar. There are numerous television screens for sports enthusiasts, and the venue is suitable for families as the bar area is separate from the dining space. The friendly staff recommended trying their delectable BBQ Burger, which was expertly prepared and visually appealing with its perfectly melted cheese. All the meals at The Quarry looked and tasted superb. This downtown restaurant is not overly crowded, providing prompt service with a smile.
Recommended by the workers at the Granite Museum. Nice downtown diner with friendly service, delicious food, and good prices. We split a Sprcial, the Granny Sammy sandwich, and chips. Definitely will visit again ☺️.

We door dash you're often and it's frustrating that what we get varies from time to time especially when we order the same stuff Three chicken fingers and fries for $10 seems a bit much especially since they cut one in half. My club is sometimes put together and sometimes slapped all together and so soggy that we can't pick it up from drowning it in mayonnaise to help moisten their dry turkey extra frustrated today because I paid $1.50 for my provolone cheese to have I don't know what on it

The Quarry is a pretty good place to have a bite to eat. Lots of seating and what looks like a full bar. Lots of TV for watching sports. Kid friendly as the bar and dinning area is not as one. This is not the first time I have been dissatisfied with the food from here. They have the most inconsistent proportions, one night I’ll have just enough and the the next time I’ll be starving, not to mention they’re already overpriced for their mediocre food. And even if they have decent portions, there is no guarantee they’ll get your order right! If there was more options in barre I truly believe that they would’ve gone out of business. Genuinely disappointing.

We recently hosted a celebration of life luncheon for a long time Barre, VT resident, at The Quarry Kitchen & Spirits. It was a pleasure working with Melissa to coordinate the timing and menu. Melissa was extremely accommodating. She was flexible with our menu choices and even agreed to switch the room set-up the day before! We chose a simple build your own sandwich and salad buffet. The Quarry's roasted chicken is excellent! If you are looking for a space to host a casual event/celebration The Quarry is an excellent option!
Patricia F — Google review
Food is greasy, oily, completely underwhelming and astoundingly overpriced considering the dreadful quality of the food. Chicken should never be tough, it's not rocket science to prepare chicken properly. The Brussel sprouts were just dreadful but I should have known not to order deep fried sprouts. Roasted or nothing, so that's on me to order fried. Dining buddy lamented their choice of the $21 dollar Caesar wrap. I guess they weren't paying attention when they added the +$8 shrimp option. You pay about $8 a pound for shrimp at the supermarket market so the mark up is outrageous. The wrap was fairly unsubstantial and lacked flavor aside from the cloying dressing but at least it wasn't greasy. I just realized that they charge $13 for a wrap sandwich which has some romaine lettuce, dressing and a sprinkle of (probably domestic) parmesan cheese. Yeah this place is a total rip off. Avoid, there are better options. Maybe people come here to booze it up. I don't know.

Roadside parking. Has a bar, table spacing is short, so you are able to hear the conversation on the next table. We went there when there are only a few diners, but i could imagine if it was full then probably it is a hectic place to go. Food is above average in taste, we ordered the fish and chips, sandwich and their quarry burger and steak. Servers were nice and attentive. Iguess they need to change their soft drink dispensing machine since there are particles that are coming out of it. Attached is the menu

Pizza restaurant
Positive Pie Inc. is a casual and modern eatery in Stowe, VT that offers more than just pizza. The restaurant promises Italian flavors with a Vermont sensibility and serves up pasta, burgers, and local microbrews. It's also known for its live music nights. The small and chic interior creates a pleasant dining atmosphere right on Main Street.
On our anniversary day drive through the state, we decided to make our lunch stop here. The restaurant has a nice and clean atmosphere with an eye catching curb appeal. Staff seemed busy, at first, and we were seated at our table rather quickly. Staff of 1 waitress, 1 hostess, 1 bartender and 2 support staff members. After watching for a good hour (throughout our meal) we noticed the bartender and hostess running ragged, with the support staff helping where they could. The 1 waitress did only her tables... as we didn't speak to her at all. The bartender and hostess did not just our table but 3 additional ones. I give them an outstanding review in this... and I hope that waitress appreciates the support she has!!! Food was great and service, (other than what I wrote above) was pretty darn good too. 4.5 stars. Keep it up ypu guys... :)

I don’t normally share bad reviews, but this was a bit much. I ordered 1 small cheese pizza and 2 of their new side dishes. the honey glazed carrots and balsamic brussels—were both raw and only slightly warm. these 3 items somehow came to 35$? there was no price on ordering sides- which were small and not on the appetizer menu. eep.

Positive Pie always had decent pizza. It wasn’t great, but it was good enough. Now it’s different; this pizza’s not the same. It’s flavorless and chewy. We tried a pie in-house and slices to-go on different days. It looks good, same as before, but the ingredients seem to have diminished in quality. The tomato sauce used to be delicious, but now tastes flat and the cheese has lost its flavor. My partner described it succinctly, “This tastes like nothing.” I’m sure this pizza may be fine for HS soccer teams or families with kids who don’t know better, but if you’re looking for the original Positive Pie pizza, that, unfortunately, has left the house.

Visiting my family from Ohio but grew up in Vermont. Good pizza can be hard to come by but wow...this was amazing food! My wife loved the sound of the bruschetta pizza so we got one of those and a large pepperoni with half spicy sausage. It did not disappoint. The staff were friendly that took my order via the phone and when I picked it up. The inside of the restaurant was clean and very inviting. One day I'll be back to have a drink at the bar and enjoy some more zah. Family loved the food and I highly recommend this pizza spot!

A little on the pricy side with one of the large specialty pizzas costing 27 dollars, but really tasty! If you want to spend a little extra money for good food, I'd definitely suggest it. Not particularly busy at 4PM on a Saturday, but that gave it a chill vibe. Ethan did a great job checking in and making the place feel dog friendly with the restaurants outdoor seating, and unseasoned grilled chicken. Harley was a fan.

Mulligan's Irish Pub offers a fantastic selection of fish tacos, burgers, and sandwiches at an unbelievably affordable price. Service is quick and efficient across all their locations, earning them consistent five-star ratings. In Vermont, Mulligan's stands out for serving the best fish tacos alongside exceptional service. I have not been since they remodeled the place. The interior good size nice outdoor seating. The emphasis is on the horseshoe shaped bar located right in the middle of the building seating along the outside. It is dimly lit, but not an issue. Lots of TVs and sports games and various things to watch. the chicken wings that I ordered was the barbecue chicken wings. They were absolutely fantastic.

No dogs allowed. We were seated on the outside patio with our small dog (a friendly King Charles Cavalier) on a nice Saturday in October. Then told we had to leave because they couldn’t allow the dog. Unfortunate as there was nobody else on the patio. It looked like a nice place but isn’t dog friendly at all.

Blackened haddock and Cobb salad were repeat orders for 2 of us so obviously those are favorites. Generous servings in the fish tacos and very tasty. They would benefit from some avocado in them. The Rachel sandwich was good but slaw would be better on the side rather than on the sandwich.

Date of visit: 01/24/2024 I want to bring to your attention a deeply concerning experience I had at Mulligan’s Irish Pub, located in Barre, and feel it is my responsibility to share this information for the safety of others. Before crafting this review, I reached out to the restaurant directly to address my concerns, but unfortunately, the response was not satisfactory. During my recent visit, I discovered metal a shard in the burger I was served, posing a serious risk to my health and safety. Acting responsibly, I immediately contacted the restaurant to express my concerns and seek an explanation. Despite my efforts, the response lacked the urgency and concern one would expect in such a situation. This prompted me to take further action, and I subsequently contacted both the local health and safety department and the federal authorities to report the incident. It is disheartening that the lack of a thorough investigation and a genuine apology from the restaurant has left me deeply disappointed and concerned about the safety of other patrons. This incident raises serious doubts about the safety standards at Mulligan’s. I strongly discourage dining at this establishment until they address and rectify these safety concerns. The presence of foreign objects in the food signals a lapse in quality control measures. Furthermore, with the local health and safety department and federal authorities informed, I hope that necessary actions will be taken to address and prevent such incidents in the future. In the interest of public safety, I find it imperative to share this experience and caution others about the potential risks associated with dining at Mulligan’s. I encourage everyone to prioritize their health and well-being by choosing establishments that prioritize customer safety. Please exercise caution and reconsider before choosing Mulligan’s for your next dining experience.

Had a great meal in here with my wife and daughter. Service was excellent, as was the food. Freshly cooked and tasty.

Amazing fish tacos, great burgers and sandwiches all for a super affordable price. Inside the building is like pitch black, not sure why that appeals to anyone... but eating outside is nice! Quick service. Been to almost all the locations and they all get 5 stars so far.

This trip, we only stopped for appetizers, but the wings were amazing, juicy and delicious. The reuben egg roll was also fantastic!

Bamboo Garden, an establishment that has been operating for over three decades, has been serving the people of Barre with delectable Chinese cuisine. The menu is conveniently categorized by the primary ingredient, allowing patrons to easily choose from a variety of options such as chicken dinners, beef and pork dishes, fried rices, lo meins, chow meins, and more. Each dish is expertly seasoned to perfection and accompanied by noodles and rice that are exceptionally flavorful.
Very nice.. small family owned restaurant. Food was fantastic and the service impeccable... doesn't look like much from the outside but well worth getting something to eat.

Very nice people. Decided to eat in. The food was hot and came out really quick. Very impressed. Don't judge the restaurant by the look of the building

I got General T with shrimp. Soggy breading and chicken was tough like it was old. Let’s not talk about the shrimp. Spring rolls were surprisingly delicious.

We always do take out so it doesn’t matter to us that they have a very small dining area. Love the food and it’s always ready for pick up.

Tried the egg rolls with duck sauce, very good and filling! Definitely going back for more

Food is awful taste like it was cooked in old Greece. Probably gonna get sick.
Matthew O — Google review
I ordered general tso's it was awsome it always is. Also the staff is super kind and break there backs to get you food. The pricing is decent but I'd rather pay a small amount more to eat from a clean restaurant vs going somewhere else locally where there food is good but it's cooked in nasty conditions (I worked there I would know) Here there is a window and you can se everything. It's clean and the people are nice!!! What more can you ask for

I grew up eating the food from the Bamboo Gardens. They have been around a long time and have grown during those years. The food is very good. Now being older and living out of state, every time I visit i make time to stop in and order their great food. If you haven't tried their food, stop in and try their version of your favorite Chinese food. I'm sure you will not be disappointed! Absolutely wonderful... ⛳️⛳️⛳️🏌‍♂️👍👊... From winding fairways, elevated tee boxes and greens, this was an absolute journey in shot making golf... Undulating greens with multi-tiers, bring your best putter - Wow!!! This is a course where you hone your game, and, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere... And the wildlife, from deer to bears, etc. - never had a worry. Beautiful scenery... I could play here forever, that good!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Stephen A — Google review
I loved it. My son and I went on Columbus Day. The course was beautiful and well maintained. I look forward to going back in the spring and throughout the summer and fall .
Paul P — Google review
Nice venue with reasonable prices but wish the road was paved and lighting after the event could have been better. Stairs going up from parking lot were a bit iffy.
Larry S — Google review
Love this course! A lot of interesting holes. Greens were receptive, true and not too fast. Really appreciate the new forward tees on 3 and 17. 4/17/22 The course is in excellent early season condition. The greens have been rolled and are fast.
Diane S — Google review
Truly one of the best golf courses in Vermont. People are friendly. The course is challenging and in great shape.
Bill M — Google review
A hidden gem of a course just east of Montpelier. Have played twice. Once in the summer and once in the fall to enjoy the Vermont foliage. Impeccable conditions, with consistent lies through the greens. Elevation changes that are challenging and breathtaking. Wonderful staff and amenities.
John L — Google review
An interesting track indeed. Overall, we’ll maintained; greens in good shape, fairways holding up even with lack of rainfall. The holes are challenging and interesting. But here’s the rub and the reason for only 3 stars. It’s terrible for signage, directing golfers to the next hole! And the cart paths would be better taken on with ATV’s! There’s no Ranger, cart service, water or sand for divot repair.
Charles B — Google review
Barre is always my favorite place to play! The greens are always in great shape, staff is friendly, carts are clean and run great. My husband loves to play frequently and has been a member for years, and that has gotten me to love to play as well! Whether you are serious about your golf game, or just starting out, Barre can accommodate anyone for a fun/productive season.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Established in 1895, Hope Cemetery spans 65 acres and is home to over 10,000 tombstones. Crafted by artisans from around the world, these memorials showcase elaborate designs and carvings made of Barre gray granite. The cemetery's history intertwines with the Spanish flu pandemic, as artists created ornate tombstones to display their skills before succumbing to the disease. Notably, the Robert Burns Monument stands as a fine piece of granite sculpture within the cemetery.
Absolutely stunning stones! Very impressive and unique cemetery! Definitely worth checking out!
Manda H — Google review
Hard to give 5 stars for a cemetery. This one is unique though. A number the monuments are art. Whether one of a kind forms and parting messages or sculptures, one over 100 years old, yet still exquisite craftsmanship. If you're interested in history, art, or one of a kind testimonials of those who have passed into eternity, you need to visit.
Kevin S — Google review
We did a slow drive through the Hope Cemetery in Barre, VT. It is really unique with all the interesting granite headstones! The guide said there are 10,090 headstones and no 2 are alike. He gave a very informative talk about the history of the cemetery and some of the most interesting headstones.
Retired L — Google review
What a hoot! I've never made a pit-stop at a cemetery before but this one is unique. Apparently in a town of stone carvers with their own granite quarry, there is some pretty neat artwork in here! I heard about this one on the Atlas Obscura podcast if you want to learn more.
Sara W — Google review
Wow wow wow. Breathtaking and peaceful, definitely worth a stop at this place! We just enjoyed walking through here, would also say it’s a good idea to Google or look up the history of the place while you walk to learn about the people and why it’s significant.
Rashae W — Google review
Wonderful experience! Beautiful gravestones with astonishing details. Also several beautiful epitaphs and tributes. Definitely worth spending the afternoon, or even just driving through for a quick look. Highly recommend it!
Sarah D — Google review
Excellent stone carving craftsmanship and Barre history. Well maintained cemetery and lovely area for a walk.
Pamela J — Google review
A really unique destination for anyone interested in local history and a little bit of world history as well. The Hope cemetery features one of the few memorials to the 1918 pandemic (an event that has gained more currency in 2020). The memorial was unveiled in 1918, a few months before the pandemic hit Barre proper, resulting in hundreds of deaths. Locally, all the headstones are made of granite--a requirement since 1945--and many were carved by Italian craftsman recruited to work at the local Barre granite quarry, who were able to create their own elaborate headstone. Look for the Thomas headstone across from the memorial. Four children in this family died in the November 3-4 1927 flood, the most deadly in Vermont's history. Over 1,200 bridges were destroyed and 84 people died. To get an idea of how severe the floods were, see the high water mark in front of the state house in Montpelier (photo attached).

Hiking area
The Cow Pasture is a natural area in Barre City that offers a short and manageable hiking opportunity suitable for all ages and skill levels. Once a grazing ground for family cows and later transformed into a golf course, it is now a recreational woodland preserve perfect for leisurely walks. The trails provide shaded paths with some elevation, making it an ideal spot for families to explore. Additionally, the area features offshoot trails that offer additional exploration options without the risk of getting lost.
Very nice walk through the woods! Not much parking, but I think you could park on the street if need be

Perfect walk to squeeze in a busy day! Small loop that all felt uphill, absolutely gorgeous! Clean and maintained trails. Always hesitant when walking in Barre, but this is a gem!
Angela G — Google review
A great little trail right in the city! I love this place all year round. In the summer with lots of berries and the winter for snowshoeing and all the time in between, this is a lovely place.
Amanda F — Google review
Finally explored the Cow Pasture. Obscure trails are real obscure. No markings and not maintained. Birds, sounds of stream, mountain views, and nature made it a nice hike. But no cows.
Bob H — Google review
Fun little walk thru the woods. It has some elevations to it but very manageable and very suitable for kids. Lots of shade which keeps it cool to walk through as well. There are a few "off shoot" trails that can be taken, if you wish. You can't get lost, so go have fun! It is good for a quick MTB ride with some elevation thrown in for a fun workout!
Lawrence P — Google review
Awesome trails for being right in Barre City! Walking distance from Main Street. There's a nice loop through the woods with a cutoff section that goes to an overlook. It's on both town-owned and private land, so please be respectful of the trails!
Tim R — Google review
Fun place for a hike, just watch for snowmobiles in the winter. Keep an eye open for loose dogs as well. Posted sign asks to remain in control of dogs at all time but some people THINK they are better at that than they actually are...

Pizza restaurant
Mister Z's is a cozy and well-established eatery that offers a variety of classic pizzas, calzones, grinders, and more. The Italian Grinder stands out with its perfectly toasted bread and just the right amount of oil. The establishment has a similar ambiance and taste to traditional pizza houses. Although limited seating is available due to its small size, the service is good and the place remains clean. Parking can be challenging at times.
Great Calzones and Mac n Cheese. Their pizza is delicious too. Weird dining layout but good space to dine in.
MaSoN J — Google review
Mister Z's has something for just about everyone. I went for the Italian Grinder. It was well toasted and had just the right amount of oil on it. If you have ever been to a house of pizza it has the same vide and taste to it. The inside is small so seating is limited. Also parking can be an issue at this place. The service was good and the place was nice and clean. You can see my full review on YouTube at Review Time With Tim
Review T — Google review
Sure, there's beer and subs, but, It is all about the antipasto! Generous portions a great deal!! Forget the very long wait at the two popular restaurants a block or so away, Mister Z's loads on the feta, olives and more. Ravioli was a fine, but the salad stole the show!
S-N-J L — Google review
The sauce on our pizza was great, but really greasy The service was minimal almost none existing.
Dillon S — Google review
$12 for about a cup of macaroni and cheese. Seriously? It's dry and tasteless. Never again. This was my first time getting takeout there. And my last.
Tracy B — Google review
Food is great. Decent sizing and portions are well. The amount of veggies that you get on your pizza is fair. Their sandwiches are good, not fantastic, but fair. The main issue is pricing. They have become pretty expensive over the last couple years. So much so that it now overtakes the pricing in all local pizza places! Still some of the best non-NY style pizza in the area but so darn expensive.....
Russ T — Google review
We love ordering our pizza for the last 3 years from here

Day 4

For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Trow Hill Playground. Playground
Trow Hill Playground in Barre is a beloved destination for visitors of all ages, offering a range of activities in a picturesque natural setting. The playground features diverse amenities including older style toys, a basketball court, and shaded picnic areas. It is well-maintained and rarely crowded, making it an ideal spot for families to enjoy a fun-filled day out. Additionally, the playground serves as a great photography spot and hosts event nights with ice cream from local volunteers.
A nice well kept playground close to where we live. Our kids love going because of it's cleanliness and how well kept it is. Also it is usually open and rarely packed. Has a pavilion, basketball court and playground with a convenience store close by.
Ryen K — Google review
Lovely little playground, limited parking. The fence alongside the houses to the left has black raspberries, crab apples, and other lovely little trees and bushes growing. I may have grabbed a few black raspberries to bring home and try to seed. There are some older style toys available, like a spinning toy, as well as a tire swing that seems spaced far enough to be reasonably safe, and a really cool swing thing for two that gets pushed along a pair of ropes. In terms of facilities, there's no water available. There is a port a john, but it's very much a last resort. A water fountain and cleaner potty would go a long way. I'm pregnant and can't go long without a restroom, so we couldn't stay more than an hour or so.

There is a small fee for non-members visiting the section of the site which supports genealogical research. Other areas are free. Parking is on street at no cost. The building is handicap accessible.

Small museum with limited exhibitions, affiliated with the Vermont Historical Museum in downtown Montpelier. If you visit that other museum first, they'll give you tickets for admission to this museum. Not sure if the same is true if you visit this one first. The only exhibition during our visit was on the history of auto racing in Vermont, with cool vintage photos, memorabilia and artifacts on display. There is also a game that lets you virtually drive a race car in use during the early years. Our visit lasted half an hour.

Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen is a popular gastropub known for its contemporary space and lively atmosphere. It's more than just a restaurant; it's a community gathering spot. The wooden bar offers an array of craft beers and creative cocktails, while the menu features dishes like pan blackened salmon, pork tenderloin, beet carpaccio salad, and potato gnocchi.
Everything was delicious, but these were the best wings I've had in a long, LONG time! Crispy outside, juicy, tender inside... Thai Chili was my favorite but Maple Bourbon certainly didn't disappoint! Highly recommend!!

CPK has the best Miller Lites in town. Mike the bartender knows how to sling and keep the beers flowing. Great spot for after work beers. If you are on the strict only cheese burger diet. I highly recommend the smash burgers and all the variations. The smash sauce is great on the burger and for dipping fries. Fries are the best I've had anywhere. Staff is great too. 5 stars all around.
Liam H — Google review
Loved this little spot on the corner! Good vibes, good food! Mexican corn dip is pretty damn good as well as the cracklins (good cold, too! almost like meat candy). The smash burger was very yummy and made me think of a much nicer, healthier Big Mac with the house sauce it comes with. New England clam chowder was a bit thin at the top and tasted more like a loaded potato soup than anything, but it was still nice and smoky with the bacon. Definitely will do this again when back in the area!

I went a little over a week ago, and I was so impressed. I’ve never eaten here or had a drink, yet the staff was so welcoming and answered all of my questions. I ordered a few different things, a favorite being a margarita. I was very impressed with the food as well, possibly the best Mac and cheese in Vermont. Perfect experience!!

The best fish and chips I ever had was years ago at a place known for the dish in Trafalgar Square. Until now, that is. Dish came piping hot with a crispy beer batter and meat in your mouth fish. Wow! Fries and slaw were good as well. Hubby liked his swordfish tacos and raved about the onion rings. Service from Lauren was excellent. Saturday night was not crowded but busy. Wish we didn't live so far away.
Ellen M — Google review
Excellent service and delicious, well-prepared food. The swordfish tacos were perfect and I substituted onion rings for the fries. I could tell by watching the wait staff and management that they really care about their customers. Locals from Barre need to support this topnotch restaurant. The Meltdown Restaurant is by far one of the best restaurants in Barre, VT. Consistently amazing food, great service and amazing owners! It doesn’t get any better! Every time I have been here it’s perfect. The owner, Diane goes out of her way to make sure you are happy and your food is to your liking and if it isn’t, she makes it right, however I have never had that experience!!! Large diverse menu of different grilled cheese sandwiches with sides to boot, good drink menu and great desserts. If you want a unique, yummy place to get an amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, look no further. Reservations are recommended but not required. You will be back!!

We had an amazing experience at The Meltdown in Barre, VT! I ordered the mac and cheese, and hands down, it was the best I’ve had since moving to Vermont—rich, creamy, and full of flavor. We sat outside on the patio, and the atmosphere was just perfect—relaxed, welcoming, and a great spot to enjoy good food. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. My family each ordered a different variation of their grilled cheese sandwiches, and everyone raved about how delicious they were. One standout recommendation: try dipping the grilled cheese in maple syrup—trust me, it’s a game changer! Prices were absolutely fair for the quality and portions. We’re lucky to live nearby and will definitely be back. If you’re in the area and craving comfort food done right, this is a must-visit!

Great spot for comfort food! Drove by a couple of times and it just looks like a familiar spot, as in somewhere where you could hang out with friends on the patio. Wanted soup so we stopped by. Service was good, food was good. Ordered the soup flight and although they were all delicious (the corn chowder, tomato soup, and cheddar ale soup), all of them were surprisingly thin... not what you would expect especially from the cheddar ale and chowder. I'm a sucker for French onion and that soup was good. Brie fig and apple sandwich was excellent and I'm glad we ordered one to share because it was VERY rich. Love how the owners are also very active with social media and leveraging it well!

Eating at the Meltdown was easily one of the best experiences I've ever had going out to eat. They did everything right. The food was outstanding, great flavor and presentation, and I left stuffed! On top of the amazing food, the staff went so far above and beyond, it restored my faith in humanity. I could feel their passion and dedication in every interaction. We had multiple allergies at the table and they went so far out of their way to accommodate, I almost can't believe it. As soon as you walk in you feel like part of their family. I couldn't recommend the Meltdown enough to anyone and everyone. Absolutely will go again, 10/10.
Bret B — Google review
This is a niche' restaurant dialed in! The crisp on my grilled cheese was perfect. The "pull" on my cheese was amazingly gooey. I had the Montreal smoked meat grilled cheese; the menu said rye bread pretty sure I got country white - but still delicious! The French fries were good too. I also selected a beer from an wide selection of draft tap. I search places to eat by "dog friendly" and the interaction with me and Delta makes the experience. 3 out 4 staffers interacted with were kind to my dog. The odd one out wasn't mean - but clearly not a dog person. If traveling Interstate 89 this place is 100% worth the short trip off the ramp.

We just got in our car and drove 3 hours to Barre. We decided to try the Meltdown and was worth the drive. Our waitress Bella was a sweetheart. Food was very good. She even recommended the LegenDairy for the maple ice-cream.

What a great find! I stopped in at The Meltdown and had the Classic Grilled Cheese with French fries, coleslaw, and a cup of their creamy tomato soup—and everything was absolutely delicious. You can really tell the food is made fresh to order; the grilled cheese was perfectly crispy and melty, and the soup was rich and flavorful—comfort food done right! The staff and manager were fantastic—super friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick without feeling rushed. The restaurant was spotless, including the outdoor patio where we sat. It’s always a good sign when a place feels genuinely cared for. I’ll definitely be going back. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving a cozy, satisfying meal! 🧀🍅🍟

My family absolutely loves The Meltdown! Such a pleasant atmosphere, wonderful service, and one of the cleanliness restaurants around! Diane and her husband treat us with nothing but respect every time we come in to have dinner and might I add the food is fantastic! 100/100 would recommend this place to all of my family and friends

Great place to bring your kids to play it's one of the biggest town parks in vermont that I'm aware of as far as acres go it's not that big compared to some other towns but the play structure is definitely one of the biggest in vermont plus there's a pool for those really hot days and a picnic area for an entire family. It's definitely a 5-star place

Took my grandchildren to the Playground 2000, just at the entrance of the municipal pool. Brought and enjoyed creamies, swings for ALL ages and abilities, slides, climbing structures, basketball courts and a small skate area. Had a great time as other acquaintances came and went. It's a great bit of old Barre history that is pretty well kept up however it needs a new parking lot the baby is dangerous to walk on for the elderly if they want to visit and see something out of their own history that they might have grown up knowing.

Pizza restaurant
Pearl Street Pizza is a must-visit spot for satisfying your hunger pangs. The wood-fired oven promises amazing food, and the simple pepperoni pizza with hot honey sauce is a standout choice. The wings make for a great starter, and the friendly staff adds to the enjoyable experience. With good beer on tap and an impressive cocktail list, this place has something for everyone. And if you're into local products, there's a cute little store attached to it.
Totally loved the place. We were in town for a day and picked up dinner from here Loved both the pizzas. Margarita and pepperoni! On top of it, vibe is pretty awesome. While waiting for pizza had their house made negroni, definitely a good one
Ankit C — Google review
Had the plain cheese "Grandma style" slice, which I found to be dry and even a bit burnt. The Caesar salad was pretty good, they dress it well, but the additional charge for just three anchovies on top seems unfair. The panacotta was nice. Staff seemed a bit disinterested, but they were efficient and brought things quickly. Overall, it was a nice find while hanging out in Barre for a night. Check it out!

Barre is very fortunate to have such a place. It has become my go to. It has become hard to try other places. Service is stellar, specially the guy w the cool sideburns 😅. I hope he trains everyone and shows them his tricks. food is delicious. They also have deals that make it even more desirable/affordable to come often. I am glad to have a place to bring my family to show them a great place when they visit.

I had the Grammas spicy pepperoni wood fired pizza. I will dream about this slice until I can return again😭. This slice was HUGE, about the size of a book. Great service and amazing atmosphere.

Incredible pizza made by some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. The flavors are creative, well-balanced, and always changing, which keeps me coming back. You can tell they’re serious about their dough, their oven, and sourcing high-quality local ingredients. The result is consistently beautiful, delicious food with generous portions. Everything on the menu is worth trying—salads, appetizers, every style of pizza. Always get the special, and if they ever have the pork belly, don’t miss it. The polenta with the meatball - I scrape up every bit with my pizza crust. Delish. Even when it’s busy, the wait isn’t bad, and it’s absolutely worth it. One of the owners even shared cooking tips and gave me local restaurant recommendations. Their passion and hospitality make this place truly special. Can’t recommend it enough.
Mari Y — Google review
I was blown away by this place. The spicy pepperoni grandma pie I had was incredible, and the wood-fired pepperoni pizza I ordered alongside it was equally outstanding. Pickup was quick and easy, the staff was friendly, and even the margaritas to go were excellent. Easily one of the best pizza spots I’ve been to.
Paul P — Google review
If you like wood fired pizza, worth the stop. Pizza sauce was good, recommend the napoletana. The meatball dish was a hit and it is a meal. I liked their beer selections.

Sushi restaurant
When you dine at Asian Gourmet, you can embark on a culinary journey to the Far East. This local eatery offers a wide range of Chinese and Japanese dishes, including sushi rolls, sashimi, teriyaki, katsu, rice and noodles. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming. If you're looking for a budget-friendly dining experience, Asian Gourmet won't disappoint as it offers affordable prices without compromising on portion sizes.
Placed my order at 8:00 on the dot, had it in hand at 8:10 I've had Chinese food all over the country, and The rangoons that I got here were among the best. The Hunan beef could have been a little spicier, but the flavor was good. Overall, highly recommend

This was absolutely disgusting and over priced. Paid over $50 for leathery chicken which was mostly hard breadcrumbs because there was like no actual chicken. Would not recommend this place at all. So much for gourmet I wouldn’t feed it to my dogs !
Tyler W — Google review
Honestly, I would give a ZERO star if I could. I have been here in the past and it was good, but not today. Restaurant was somewhat clean and was given drinks almost immediately. Unfortunately, I was served my Pepsi with a side of spider. Although I did not get to experience the food, I’m glad I didn’t. 0 out of 5

I ordered a Bento Box with chicken katsu, gyoza, California rol, spring rolls, with miso soup and d I chose pork fried rice. I also ordered a Crazy California roll and a cucumber roll with cream cheese rice on the outside. The bento box is so worth the price and the extra for the pork fried rice. The chicken katsu was soft nice flavorful chicken breast the pork fried rice had a nice flavor to it the gyoza was nice and crunchy but soft as well the egg rolls had a nice flavor there's definitely enough there for two people especially with the Miso soup and the salad. The Crazy California roll was really nice and flavorful with the eel sauce on it was really good It had a good flavor it wasn't too "fishy". It had the perfect flavor to it. The California roll was amazing that came with the bento box. My special order cucumber and cream cheese roll was really nice as well they didn't skimp on the cream cheese. Everything is definitely worth the price you pay when you go there. The food is fresh food and flavorful. It was quite amazing. Best I've had in a long long time. The only complaint I had is, for three packages of sushi, I only got one packet of soy sauce (guessing an oversight)

We walked in and were seated immediately. It was empty, though they had a lot of takeout orders so I was hopeful it was good food and after reading some reviews I was hoping the good ones were true and the bad ones not. Unfortunately, the food was horrible. We ordered calamari and pork ribs to start. The calamari, had the consistency of chewing a rubber tire. It tasted like off brand frozen store bought that they put in the microwave, I mean bad. The pork ribs sauce was good but the pork was dry and came out luke warm, it kind of grossed me out. Then for my main I got a sesame chicken which was.. to me inedible. I took one bite and was done. First of all it comes as a slab of “chicken” the sauce was revolting and the coating on it I’m not even really sure about but it was chewy and just gross. My mocktail was good and our server was nice enough. We spent $100 on a meal I could barely get through. It was highly disappointing to say the least.

WOW, beautiful jazz music, great attentive service, and excellent food! I ordered the sesame chicken and WOW 3 huge breasts fried with a delicious sauce! This want some little pieces of chicken breast but FULL scallopini breasts! I had spring rolls, that were so crunchy and delicious! ALL WAS EXCELLENT!!!!

Restaurant
China Town is a modest counter-service Chinese eatery that offers an array of delectable dishes from the Cantonese, Sichuan, and Hunan cuisines. This establishment has gained a reputation as the finest Chinese restaurant in Central Vermont. The dedicated family who owns and operates it are renowned for their unwavering work ethic and genuine kindness. The food served here is widely regarded as exceptional, surpassing all expectations. China Town is synonymous with comforting, satisfying meals that never fail to impress.
The food is really good. I go there all the time. Out of all the chinese restaurants that I have visited in Vermont , this is the only one that makes the dish that I like the most.

People working there are very rude. They have a bathroom in a public area, but have a sign on it. It will not share with paying customers. The food taste horrible, nothing Authentic No variety of drinks. Old tasting food. Could not believe how they treat their guests. Would not recommend at all. HORRIBLE
AllEyes21 — Google review
I ordered take out in the afternoon, got my food fairly quickly. The food could have used a little bit more flavor, but I got 10 rangoons for 7 bucks so I'm not really complaining too much. The beef dish that I ordered was labeled spicy, but absolutely was not. Still not bad, but I would have liked a little kick
Anthony R — Google review
I had a long day of work and picked up food to bring home 40min drive. The food was $63 and I gave a generous tip. When I got home my dinner was not in the bag, even though it was on the receipt, and the white rice that was supposed to accomopny it was in the bag. I called and told them, and that I live too far away to drive back so asked for a refund on that portion of the bill. The young woman acted clueless and then got the owner who screamed at me in Chinese. I repeated myself slowly multiple times but she continued to scream at me unintelligibly and then hung up. We tried calling back multiple times and they wouldn't answer. We called from my boyfriends phone and they picked up, but realizing it was us, hung up again. If you order food from here CHECK YOUR BAG BEFORE LEAVING. They will treat you horribly if there is an issue like you are lying. So disrespectful. Also, you should not be in business if you are unwilling to have customer service to correct a mistake you make. That's stealing.
Heidi B — Google review
The food was not good, I got vegetable egg foo young and I think I found 2 mushrooms. Crabs ragoons , 2 orders all were just wonton wrappers! Not even a 1/2 tsp filling.chicken fingers dry .poo poo platter over cooked! We spent $92.00 and I can’t say anything good about it, except the veg less egg foo young! Sad! , I never rate restaurants but I’m sure they need a better chef!!

One of my absolute favorite local Chinese restaurants. Often is is standing room only but the food fits the ticket. Some of the hardest working people in the business and a great value for the money!
Timothy B — Google review
The food is an upper good Asian restaurant. Definitely would return. They were not busy at all during my order. Eggrolls were very good, not greasy. The sauces were not over Americanized and saucy/sweet. I have to recommend this restaurant. As always, please smash the "Like" button if you enjoyed this review. Thank you.

Well thought I'd try it again after years of not going. Figured all the bad reports would have triggered a visit from the CDC! I'm going to guess NO! Ordered Beef and broccoli and only ate a few bites of the meat and ended up throwing it away! The meat was definitely tainted! Hope I don't end up getting sick! And if there's any trolls out there....yes I know what a bad piece of meat tastes like! They should not be serving that food! Truly hope the health dept. takes a look, but I will not be going there again.

Dunkin' is a beloved chain known for its signature breakfast offerings and an extensive selection of coffee drinks that keep customers coming back for more. While some visitors have experienced slower service during busy times, many appreciate the friendly demeanor of the staff. On weekends, especially before holidays like Labor Day, Dunkin' locations can get quite bustling, but the team often manages to handle orders efficiently.

Service worker was prompt, professional, and efficient. Avocado toast & donuts looked fine & tasted good. Atmosphere was a bit lacking, but it is a very small space inside. My only recommendations would be to stock more donut varieties and sweep up a bit better. Food is being prepared back there! Yikes!!

I have never been to a slower, ruder, more incompetently staffed D&D location than this, and that is saying something. Took me 30 minutes plus to get a medium iced coffee. The staff was rude. They got my order wrong at the speaker, I corrected them and she said "I KNOW!" rudely, and then they got it wrong at the window as well, and they were rude again upon discovering this, as if it was my fault. I had to shut off my car and wait for 10 minutes while they discussed a medium ice coffee like they were building a nuclear reactor. Never wasting my time here ever again.

Seriously slow service. I don't know how many people are working but todays visit is waited in the drive thru for 9 minutes after placing my order. The staff are nice and they're friendly. Just slow.

The first time I went, I ordered chai oat milk and said I cant have regular milk i have an allergy. when they brought it up to me I said “oat milk right” and they took my drink and said “no sorry” and redid it. Need to take allergies more seriously. Second time, I Ordered a hot drink, i took a sip after I left and it was luke-warm but mostly cold. Eww! Didnt even have much flavor and was a yucky temp. I waited 20 minutes in the drive thru for that :(
