Garrison in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Garrison, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Garrison is a small Hudson River hamlet known for its sweeping river and mountain views, especially from Boscobel House and Gardens, a restored 19th-century estate. Outdoor enthusiasts come for easy access to Hudson Highlands State Park and nearby trails, including some of the region’s most popular Hudson Valley hikes. The area also has cultural draws such as the Philipstown Depot Theatre and Manitoga, the modernist home and landscape of designer Russel Wright. With a scenic Metro-North ride from New York City, it works well as a relaxed day trip or quiet weekend escape.
With favorites like Valley Restaurant Open For Private Events, Dolly's Restaurant, and The Highlands Country Club, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Garrison Pizza Cafe -Rd 9D and Garrison Pizza y Más so you can get the best taste of Garrison while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

I photographed a wedding at Boscobel at the end of May, and it was pure perfection. Although it rained on this particular wedding day, the grounds were still gorgeous for photos, and the team executed everything wonderfully. We took photos throughout the entire property, with the help of the team driving us around on a golf cart; they were so accommodating and so caring. The tent (which featured an installed floor; no mud!) was a gorgeous place to host the reception. I can't say enough good things about being able to photograph a wedding here, and I hope that I am able to be back for another wedding soon!
Sweet P — Google review
It is a perfect place to visit to experience life during the Golden Era. The grounds are magnificent. There are sculptures on the front lawn, making a good photo opportunity. There is an herb garden. Plus, there are many apple trees and pear trees. The home is grand with a view of the Hudson to die for. While I was there, a wedding was taking place. They had a beautiful venue for taking wedding photos with the fall foliage. Unfortunately, the historical home was closed. Finally, there is a wonderful store that even sold apples.
Lisa K — Google review
Wow best view of the Hudson River for sure. Just the view alone is worth it. There was a wedding going on when I came. Nice place to visit if there was an event going on. Stayed maybe about 40 to 45 min. It was a Jewish wedding.
Justin D — Google review
Beautiful view of the Hudson River. Unfortunately the house was closed but the grounds are nice and I enjoyed the sculptures of artists.
Jennifer C — Google review
Beautiful grounds but house is not open and won't be opened any time soon.
Susan M — Google review
Beautiful grounds, historic home and incredible views. We visited at Christmas for the candlelight evening tour. It was so lovely. There was a live pianist. The staff was helpful and friendly. They also had festive refreshments & Christmas activities in the visitor center & gift shop. There was plenty of parking and spotless restrooms. We live in NJ and found it by chance
Christa D — Google review
So pretty. Even though we couldn’t tour the house, I loved walking the grounds. The folks who tend to the herb garden clearly put a lot of love into it!
Laurel D — Google review
Went to the farmers market. Its a prettier setting than the Beacon main street parking lot. It has many of the same vendors but fewer of them overall. Less crafts and jewelery. Lots of great produce. The Boscobel farm and grounds are pretty and it's a nice place to take a little walk.

Rare book store
Antipodean Books Maps & Prints is a charming antiquarian shop located near the Garrison riverfront. It offers a delightful collection of old and rare books, historic maps, prints, and photography. The store's inventory covers diverse subjects such as Hudson Valley geography and Australian topography. Visitors can expect to find hidden treasures and engage in interesting conversations with the knowledgeable and friendly owners.
Amazing place! I went in there just to peruse, expecting the prices to be way far from affordable for me, but there were a lot of really nice lower priced books. They have a selection that ranges from more modern books to quite literally fallen apart but still readable books, and a range of prices, from $20 to thousands for the very rare books. They have a lot on Antarctic exploration, too. I didn't even realize they had a second room at first, but they do! There's a big mishmosh of all sorts of books on the shelves in one room, and the other is neat and mostly collections and prints. I mostly spent time in the former, and brought home three books, two 70s special editions of novels and one book from 1572 written in Latin. The old Latin book didn't have a price tag, and the woman there ended up pricing it at $20, which was amazing. The woman there was also very friendly. Great selection, great people, great prices.
Ollie G — Google review
This bookstore was really fun to explore. They have an incredible collection, and the owner is really talkative and helpful. He gave us a generous discount and we got several beautiful books to take home. Definitely a great place to stop into if you're traveling nearby. There's also a beautiful grassy area behind the store where you can relax.
Leah S — Google review
We went there because we basically missed our train. We wanted to explore the area and stumbled upon this store. The owner David is such a nice person. He single handedly made our day. We chatted, got a book and he even gave both of us hand painted human body illustration of a book he was reassembling for free! Just so we will remember him! The next time I will go there only to meet him, he is such an amazing human being.
Fatema Z — Google review
What a gem of a place. You could spend hours in here and still barely scratch the surface: books, maps, photographs, and tons of assorted ephemera concerning all sorts of subjects.
Lyndsey C — Google review
Absolutely wonderful bookstore. And even more wonderful are the owners. Friendly, knowledgeable, kind and sharp. There are very few places that will compare to this in terms of the books and products offered in addition to its ambiance and community-building events. I can't wait to share it with any and all visiting family and friends in the area. This is a gem of the Hudson Valley.
Dian B — Google review
Best book store I’ve ever been to. The store owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Changing selection, which is always built out for any type of book & print collector. He also has a plethora of international prints. Great deals as well if you are nice!

What a classic space, fascinating collection, and incredibly hospitable staff! Friday at 5pm is the best time to go as it becomes a community gathering. Thanks, Mr. David!!

Art gallery
Located in Garrison, New York, the Garrison Art Center is a small and free-to-visit art space conveniently close to the train station. It was established in 1964 to promote local artwork and has since expanded its reach to serve the entire Hudson Valley. The center features various exhibitions, including works by artists like Patricia Miranda, whose textile creations were showcased during a visit. Visitors can expect a warm welcome from the staff and may even come across pottery sales aimed at supporting the center's activities.
What a wonderful art hub! The staff was welcoming and very patient with my twin girls. Beautiful POTTERY as well! I am a yoga teacher/performing artist /mommy and we arrived at Garrison station to escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Unfortunately the weather was too rainy for the hike we planned and took refuge at the Garrison art center. What a wonderful experience. They had a pottery sale to raise funds for the Art Center. Wow my eyes had never seen such beautiful pieces. Of course my daughters tried touching some of the pieces and again the staff was so patient, they even provided paper markers and scissors while we waited an hour for the restaurant next-door to open. Will definitely come back when the weather is better and I’ve heard only great things about the pottery class.
Urban N — Google review
The Garrison Art Center is a combination gallery and studio space where classes are taught. The classroom is spacious and I really enjoyed the class I took. I also appreciated the clean bathroom which is open to the public with a request for donations.
Ana G — Google review
extremely rude service. the woman working there was so rude when we walked in. we were looking at art and asked for water and she made the comment “don’t use this as a 7/11”. never come back. she should be fired.

Very tiny gallery featuring one artist. Only two small rooms. I am not a connoisseur of art. However, I did connect with this artist.

Vito P — Google review
There is an unparalleled tranquility interrupted only by the train passing which is oddly soothing. I love this place!
Liliane B — Google review
Very small art center. When I went there the only thing they were displaying was photos, no paintings or drawings, which was a bit of a disappointment. The installation looked interesting, but it was so strange to have a little art gallery in such a seemingly deserted town. When me and my friend went through the town we literally saw three people, and they were all the store owners. If you're in the area it might be interesting to look in, but it's certainly not worth a drive.
Katrina G — Google review
Garrison Art Center is an absolutely amazing organization that focuses on learning, community, creativity and growth. Over the last year they have generously welcomed Masha, a Ukrainian refugee staying with our family, into their teen classes. It gives her an outlet to express herself and a chance to meet local peers. I cannot say enough about GAC's commitment to their values, and the beauty they offer to Garrison and beyond.

Nestled in the charming hamlet of Philipstown, New York, the Philipstown Depot Theatre is a non-profit organization that has been entertaining audiences since 1996. Situated across from West Point on the Hudson River, this professionally run theater offers a diverse range of shows throughout the year. From plays and musicals to readings and cabaret nights, there's something for everyone. The theater also hosts kids' theater camps during the summer.
Quaint and historic location that hosted the wonderful Glass Ceiling Breakers film festival

What a charming venue and friendly staff! I had a wonderful concert experience last night. If I ever find myself in the area again, I will be sure to check out another show.

What fun it was to have a say in the winning show(s)! A very cute little train station theatre with minimal sets and a snack bar. We loved it!
Michelle J — Google review
I went for the theater for The Dark House. Definitely a different experience. It will take you out of your comfort zone. its more Sensory deprivation then screaming scary. For sure an interesting experience hands down but I feel this would be an amazing add on to a scary haunted house after it.
Chelsey — Google review
Every performance at this place is a joy. You know why? They always look like they're having a great time together and that there's no place they'd rather be. On top of that, it's always first-rate in every way.

It's like an afternoon at an Off-Broadway theater, but in your own backyard on the Hudson River across from West Point. The productions are top-notch, and the brownies can't be beat! Plays, readings, musicals, cabaret nights, kids Theater camp in the summer, this place does it all and does it with class.

Constitution Marsh is a hidden gem for nature lovers. The boardwalk trail through the marsh is peaceful and offers amazing views of the Hudson River and surrounding mountains. You can often spot wildlife, like herons, eagles, and turtles—it’s a photographer’s dream. I love how quiet and tranquil the area feels, making it perfect for a relaxing stroll or birdwatching. The visitor center is great for learning about the marsh’s ecosystem, and the staff is always welcoming. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Constitution Marsh is a beautiful spot to connect with nature. 🌿🦅
Anthony B — Google review
Took an uber from town to the beginning of Warren Landing Rd where we walked down the paved driveway to reach the start of the trail by the Audubon Center (which was closed). It’s another short hike from there to reach the marsh. It’s a fairly easy trail, you hike up and down a small rocky hill with a beautiful moss-covered terrain. The vistas are gorgeous. The boardwalk is an easy walk through the marsh; we saw several kinds of birds and frogs. Some parts of the boardwalk were a bit submerged, so be extra careful here.
Carolina F — Google review
Make sure to check their website before your visit. You are supposed to register if you want to park on location. Otherwise you park at Boscobel and walk over. The hike to the marsh is short but the views are amazing. Bring your good camera! It is very serene and quiet. You won't be disappointed.
Kevin J — Google review
Beautiful walk down on a rocky mossy path ( just watch your footing ). Its so relaxing to just stay on the broadwalk in the middle of march with the wind blowing thru cat’s tail. Problem is we dont know where to park our car. So we drive all the way down to the Audubon educational center.
Jean N — Google review
Just went here for kayaking, and glad to see there is also hiking possibilities. Fantastic place just a bit more than an hour from a city to come to and be in nature. Plus a very cute town with some cool cafes, shops and food.
Orderkaos — Google review
Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary is very beautiful. From the parking lot, you are going down the hill to the entrance of a 20-minute hike. The entrance to this hike is very beautiful. I met a few volunteers who greeted us with a smile on their face. When you hike down the hill to marsh, you have to follow blue color trail. Once you reach the bottom of the hill, you will find the constitution marsh and breath taking view of the west point. This place might get very warm in summertime.
Ashish S — Google review
Note: There are only eight parking spots for cars and no alternative parking nearby. You may have to come back at another time if all spots are full. You walk down a private road, open to hikers, to the trail head at the education center. From there the little hike starts over some steep and rocky ground, already offering some beautiful views over the marshes before you go down again to enter them over a wooden bridge. With crossing the bridge you’re entering the marshes, having the possibility to walk a small circle on wooden walkways. It’s beautiful and relaxing as with only so little parking spots you don’t have to expect many people to be there. If you remain for a little while you may see muskrats and different birds. The total distance from the parking area and back is 1.2 miles.
Daniel R — Google review
Kind of a hidden gem for a nice easy hike with gorgeous views! Honestly the walk back up the road to the parking lot is more tiresome than the hike from the Audubon Center to the marsh. Just be wary that police in the area are VERY vigilante, so if you are not in a legal parking spot, your car will be towed and possibly fined, as well. There are only 8 spots so get there early or go on a weekday.

Pizza restaurant
Garrison Pizza Cafe - Rd 9D is a hidden gem that pizza lovers simply cannot overlook! Nestled in the heart of the area, this charming spot has become a beloved favorite for locals and visitors alike. With its wood-fired pizzas crafted from top-quality ingredients, each bite transports you to pizza paradise. Whether you're indulging in a classic Margherita or exploring unique veggie options, every pie is made with care and precision.
Your mouth and stomach will thank you!! I live in the area, and have ordered from here at least once a month over the last 4 years. Kids love it and so do the adults! It’s become our go too, because the pizza is wood fired heaven. The ingredients are top notch and cooked just the way I like it. This is not a suburban “Pizza Shop”; this pizza would have no problem being the anchor on a fine Italian restaurant menu. There are other pizza places in the area and they are all very good, but this one is special. Check it out.
RORY S — Google review
My gf and I stopped here after a hike in Cold Spring and we shared a pizza half Margherita half veggie and it was pretty good! The young girl who served us was very nice. The prices for the pizzas was very well indicated on their menu and unlike some other reviews, they didn't try to overcharge us. So do stop here for a good little post hike meal. Overall, this is not your fancy oven brick pizza restaurant, but it is good enough of a meal to deserve my 4 stars :)
Willy G — Google review
I stopped in when taking a trip in the area, good selection of different types of food the pizza was thin and real good, I would go back
Tom D — Google review
Pizza is good … but not bad for a slice of a pie or maybe two out here great place to stop
Chris S — Google review
Decent pizza by the slice (not sensational, but good). Black and white cookie was pretty tasty too. Crabby old-world Italian guy working behind the counter added to the authenticity and charm of this place. :)
TM — Google review
Don’t be fooled, this is the best pizza in the area by a landslide. Most comparable to Joe’s in the city, truly wood fired, old school style. Reviews about staff etc are missing the point: this place makes great pizza. Not on Doordash etc but well worth the short drive.
Joel R — Google review
Fresh, delicious food. Nice staff. We like this Cafe.
IRINA K — Google review
My wife and child liked the pizza. My wife was a little hesitant of the wood fired idea but the whole pie was gone at the end of dinner. Nice crust and flavor. Good amount of cheese and pepperoni. All in all, this is a good pizza place and I recommend you stop in and try it.

Garrison Pizza y Más is a delightful take-out and delivery spot that has become a beloved staple for many. With its roots tracing back to when it was known as Papa John's, this eatery has evolved under new ownership, now offering an enticing mix of authentic Mexican cuisine alongside classic Italian dishes. The menu features not only pizzas but also wings, breadsticks, and even delicious burgers. One standout feature is the complimentary side of peppers with every pizza order.
Good selection of Latino food. There’s also a selection of Italian favorites. Pizza is middle of the road. They do have great wedges - meatball, chicken and shrimp parmigiana. The staff is very friendly. There’s a big selection of bottled drinks, wine and beer included.

Search pizza and pick the place with the best rating right? Due to the good reviews we looked forward to visiting. We 100% want to support a family owned business. Frozen fries served with a cold shredded chicken parm. The pizza below lacked a crust, flavor, and sauce. We did not finish the food. Stomach hurt later. I hope it was a bad night for the restaurant, but I can’t risk a second chance.
AMF — Google review
Great burgers! Delivery is fast and friendly! They actually have pints of ice cream that are scooped to order! I love the coconut! The pictures are a cheese burger no bun, slice of BBQ chicken pizza, and taco appetizer. If getting the tacos on delivery get meat on side so shells are still good when you get them!

I've been going to this pizza place since I was a kid, when it was called Papa John's (no relation) and had mini golf in the back. This place holds a special place in my heart. Harrison Pizza y Màs had improved since being under new ownership. Great authentic Mexican Food, and really good Italian fare as well. One thing to note - prices are different for cash vs. card.

Valley Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with a focus on New American cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant's country-elegant space and patio provide a lovely atmosphere for special occasions or casual meals. Guests can enjoy picturesque views from the deck while indulging in delicious dishes such as oysters, pork belly tacos, wagyu flat iron, and strawberry shortcake. The attentive staff ensures impeccable service, making it an ideal spot for fine dining or pre-show dinners before nearby events.
Worth every penny. We wanted a lovely fine dining experience with outdoor seating to watch the sunset and this did not disappoint. The staff was welcoming and friendly and the service impeccable. The food was absolutely delicious as was the sangria and French press coffee. We had the pork belly tacos, ploughman's board, wagyu flat iron, and the strawberry shortcake. Each course was delicious and not heavy. Watching the sunset behind the distant hill line was beautiful. We will definitely be back.

We held a large dinner at the Valley restaurant the night before our wedding. Adam was extremely great to work with to help set up everything and answer any questions we had beforehand. The night of the dinner they had the entire table ready for us, and had printed menus for the family style meal they were offering, it was all very beautiful and professional. The staff was great, and the food was fantastic. We were very pleased with the professionalism and overall everyone had an amazing experience. Also, beautiful views of course. We will definitely be back for a meal!

Awesome place. Picturesque and dainty. You will fall in love with the place and the food. Came here for Shakespeare's play and had dinner at the Valley restaurant before the show. The play was as usual - brilliant! The restaurant has a prix fix menu for the pre show dinner. Food was great. Everything we tried was fantastic. Highly recommend. The staff was very friendly and cordial - would love going back.

Lovely atmosphere & food! I went here to celebrate my grandmother's birthday and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was elegant and cozy! Driving up the beautiful scenic entrance gives you a taste of what is to come. Lovely views from the restaurant deck, comfy seating arrangements(we sat outdoors, but they also have indoor seating), attentive staff, blankets for when you get cold(loved this!), clean bathrooms, nice decor, and great food. For the table we ordered oysters and the Ploughman's board. I specifically ordered the Porcini Trumpet Pasta and it was so tasty!! I highly recommend you give this place a try, especially for a special occasion.

Attended multiple events at The Garrison and, as others have mentioned, the views are amazing when the weather permits it. The events I've been to on days rainy days have been just as beautiful as the venue is just as beautiful inside. Great food, beautiful grounds and accommodating staff.

Attended a pre-wedding reception there, just drinks on the patio/veranda with some light hors d'ouvres. Had access to the patio/veranda, bar area, and a room just adjacent to the veranda. Very friendly staff and bar staff, and I was there at night so couldn't really appreciate the views but was a great spot for a reception. The hors d'ouvres were a bit limited but could have just been the bride and groom's selection.

The professionalism and attentiveness from the staff on the day of our wedding was unmatched, they were extremely accommodating and treated us like royalty! The staff was exceptional in setting everything up and preparing everything for us, and made sure everything went completely smoothly. The food was spectacular! The view was spectacular! Your guests will remember it. It was so incredibly easy working with everyone here and we would recommend them over any Hudson Valley venue! Thanks again to the Garrison for making our wedding so special and memorable

Getting married at The Garrison on July 11, 2025, was truly a dream come true. From the start, our coordinator Annie was communicative and clear every step of the way. On the day itself, she was calm, prepared, and kind - at one point she even placed the shoes on my feet mid-reception so I could get back to the dance floor without anything! The setting is breathtaking, and knowing there was a thoughtful rain plan in place allowed us to enjoy the day without stress. The food was another standout - every dish was delicious, beautifully presented, and far beyond what anyone expects from “wedding food.” Our guests are still raving about it!! What impressed us most was the way everything flowed. Cocktail hour was so full of food and drinks, that we went straight into dancing. The energy never dipped, and the dance floor stayed full all night. The entire staff was professional and attentive throughout. We are endlessly grateful to Annie and the whole Garrison team for creating a wedding day that was seamless, joyful, and unforgettable. We cannot recommend them highly enough!

The Garrison was the most incredible place to have our wedding - absolutely stunning views, amazing food, and truly the best staff we could’ve asked for! Annie helped plan every detail and made sure the day ran perfectly - she was completely on top of her game. Richard, our captain, helped with setup and kept everything running smoothly, and Fatima, our bridal assistant, was by our side the entire day making sure we were taken care of - she thought of everything and truly made me feel like a princess. We even brought s’mores supplies and had McDonald’s delivered late-night, and both Richard and Fatima went above and beyond plating and organizing everything! We also stayed at the inn with our families, and Marie at the front desk was so sweet and helpful when we checked in and brought all our things in. The rooms were so spacious, clean and the beds were super comfortable! The day before, we had our rehearsal and dinner at their bar and restaurant, and Adam was amazing - super communicative, personable, and made it such a fun experience. Everyone is still talking about how delicious the food was and how it was some of the best food they’ve had at a wedding! We loved every moment of our wedding weekend here and are already planning to come back for our one-year anniversary! We can’t thank the team at The Garrison enough! ♥️ Lauren & Chris

Getting married at the Garrison was the absolute best decision we could have made. The venue is absolutely stunning. You can't do better than the view and the floor to ceiling windows are so beautiful. I loved how gorgeous and unique the space was, as well as elegant and classy. I was also obsessed with the wooden farm tables they use for cocktail hour stations and the sweetheart table. And the sunset view!!! Just stunning. It's worth booking at the Garrison just for that alone. (Make sure you take sunset photos with your photographer). Aside from that, the service is amazing. We worked with Annie and she was incredible. From the moment we booked with the Garrison she was so helpful and super responsive to all of my emails. She answered all of our questions and was great at advising us. On the day of, she was on top of everything and always there if we needed anything. Fatima, my bridal assistant was amazing too. We felt so taken care of all day. The servers and bartenders and all of the staff were great too. All of our guests had a great time and said they never had to wait long for a drink and dinner service was perfect as well. Everyone said the food was delicious too. The pass arounds at cocktail hour were amazing, as well as the stations and the dinner entrees. I can't recommend the Garrison enough! An amazing place to get married!

The Garrison was the perfect place for our wedding. Everything from the initial planning with Bridget all the way through the wedding itself was done extremely well, and the recommended vendors were excellent also. It was clear that the group worked great together and it felt like a totally seamless experience from start to finish. A special shout out to our bridal attendant, Fatima, who was with us throughout the night and took care of so many little details. The view from the ceremony, cocktail hour, and into the reception was perfect and all of our guests had an incredible time. Food and drinks all excellent as well.

We could not have asked for a more perfect wedding at The Garrison! The location is absolutely stunning, and the layout of the outdoor ceremony garden, cocktail hour room, reception room, and additional outdoor space worked incredibly well! We also got so many compliments on the food! While the venue itself is amazing, the team at The Garrison is what really sets it apart and what made our day so incredible. Annie, our wedding coordinator, was such a pleasure to work with and made the entire planning process leading up to the wedding as well as the wedding day itself as seamless as possible. Her professionalism, expertise, and care really made it a perfect day. The Garrison also has an incredible list of preferred vendors. We ended up choosing nearly all of our vendors from their list and could not be more happy with how everything turned out! Overall, we can't recommend The Garrison highly enough!

We feel so incredibly lucky to have been married at The Garrison. The venue is so beyond stunning, combined with our fantastic photographer, our wedding pictures are truly the most beautiful photos we’ve ever seen. The scenery is so stunning and romantic. The venue works tirelessly to upkeep the property and they do a phenomenal job. We were catered to from the start of the day to the end. Anything we needed we knew Annie and Fatima had our backs. I got to meet Annie a while back, she very quickly eased any questions and concerns we had. We got to meet Fatima the day before the wedding and she was immediately ready to help and get us ready for our big day. We live out of state so getting everything organized was a bit messy on arrival, but between Annie and Fatima, they were ready to rip into the mess. So grateful for them to organizing the absolute perfect day for us. It could not happen without them. On top of the staff being so ready and receptive to us, the FOOD! The food was so beyond, every single one of our guests raved about how incredible the hors d'oeuvres at cocktail hour, their meals were, and dessert! We are so lucky to have celebrated our love at this venue and we truly look forward to many anniversary visits in the future.

Getting married at The Garrison was, without question, the best decision we made for our wedding—and the best day of our lives. The property itself is stunning, with sweeping views of the Hudson Valley that took our breath away. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was the incredible team that brought it all to life. Working with Annie, Adam, and Bridget felt like working with people who shared our brain—they anticipated everything, communicated clearly, and made the entire planning process feel effortless. Even when unexpected rain stopped and required a last-minute switch from an anticipated indoor to a magnificent outdoor ceremony, the team handled it so gracefully that our guests didn’t even notice. Everyone was too busy enjoying cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and good company—all smoothly managed by The Garrison's expert staff, who knew exactly how to keep the energy flowing and spirits high. David, our day-of attendant, was an absolute gem—checking in with us throughout the evening, bringing us drinks and food, gently reminding us to take breaks (yes, even to use the restroom!). His attentiveness and kindness meant so much to us. While the property is currently undergoing renovations, it in no way disrupted the beauty or flow of the day. Once guests enter the event space, all they see is the magic—the views, the light, the architecture, and the love in the air. From our intimate inn stay to our next-day brunch, from our wedding shoot to our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception—every moment at The Garrison exceeded our wildest dreams. The food, the service, the energy—exceptional across the board. We cannot recommend The Garrison enough. It is a truly special place made extraordinary by the people who run it. With so much love & gratitude, L & L

The service at Dolly's Restaurant is attentive, genuine, and diverse, just like their menu of food and drinks. They offer an array of wines, beers, ales, ciders, as well as creatively crafted traditional cocktails and unique originals. Every aspect of this place has been carefully chosen to create an upscale yet authentic Hudson Valley atmosphere. The experience is enjoyable and there are very few things that could be improved upon; the thoughtfulness that went into planning this restaurant is truly impressive.
What a lovely gem, and Hello Dolly! The cauliflower app is delish as are the sauteed greens, french fries, and margaritas. Whatever you do, be sure to order the chocolate pudding whipped cream dessert. The location on the banks of the Hudson River is picturesque and peaceful. Highly recommend!

Service was really good. Nice vibe, nice views. Oysters were good, hummus too. Soft serve ice cream was so good!! However I was disappointed with the other dessert Halva, it was too few, a very tiny piece. Not so used to it, maybe they can try offering fresh halva instead, might do better. Burger was good, but the cheese was “too” salty for my taste..good if it’s mentioned. I must say it’s a must try spot

With only a couple weeks left open, I urge you to experience this culinary and mixological masterpiece. Every cocktail is a perfect balance of top shelf spirits, requiring only one or two to feel nice and satiated. My favorite dishes include the cold spicy sesame noodles paired with the spicy Szechwan shrimp, the fried mushrooms, the cauliflower nuggets, the broiled gulf shrimp, and the hummus. A satisfying meal can be achieved with 2 starters. I've heard amazing things about the Moroccan stew but I haven't tried it yet. I will try it within the next couple weeks! Run, do not walk, to Dolly's before you can't anymore.

Just do yourself a favor and go! I went here for date night and had such a loving evening. It's a quaint little restaurant located right on the Hudson River/Garrison train station. The ambiance was cozy with light soothing music playing in the background. You could see the sunset which is a plus. Our waitress, Felicia, was amazing -very attentive and friendly. We started with the cauliflower nuggets and Falafel -delicious. For our main course, we had the spicy, curried red lentils with haiga rice (get this!!! you will not be disappointed) and crispy fish on potato bun. The basque cheesecake for dessert was the perfect touch. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.

Arden Point and Glenclyffe offer a 6.1-kilometer trail through abundant deciduous trees and white pines, starting at the Arden Point entrance. The trail includes a blue-blazed woods road crossing a small bridge over a stream. It's an uncontested forested hiking trail in Garrison, with a total of 4 miles along the Hudson River at an altitude of around 400 feet.
A significant, uncontested, forested hiking trail in Garrison. You will walk a total of 4 miles on a special path along the Hudson River. The altitude is around 400 and you can walk without difficulty. Garrion Station parking at the starting point location is available on weekends and at any holidays for free. It is useful to easily place many dogs and even open streams that are occasionally polluted. Recommended for those looking for a cute route with easy access to rough mountain paths.

A kid friendly trek near New York city. A 90 min train ride via Metro North and you land right at the start of the trek. We were looking for a non-tiring trek where a 6 year old won’t ask to be carried and can walk by himself. Perfect match for that scenario. Scenic walk through the monastery and shrubbery. A good trek to relax and just stroll around the wood. It’s not a mountain hike.

Beautiful hike! Definitely easy - beautiful views of the Hudson River, Westpoint, Charming wooded areas and the picturesque Garrison Institute. Plenty of moments to stop and take photos. Pay attention to the secret moments just off the main trail - they were always beautiful and perfect for a photo op! Would highly recommend for a short, chill hike. Great for a family with younger kids. Will go back!

An easy and very picturesque hike that starts right by the Garrison Metro-North train station and goes in a loop around Hudson Highlands State Park. Highly recommended to all fitness levels. Garrisson Institute which you'll come upon along the way, provides picture perfect views of the river, and lots of benches to sit and have a picnic on. There's lots of flowers and a bamboo forest nearby, and you follow the property's road to the highway, 9D, you'll see Castle Rock on top of a mountain a short distance away. That castle served as the prototype for the castle in the Wizard of Oz.

Beautiful and easy hike, trail is marked well and terrain is mostly flat. There are a few spots with great views. It’s right off the garrison train stop so transport from NYC is extremely convenient. Use the All Trails app as there are a few different twists and turns. The app was a huge help! Also, check the weather and don’t get caught up in a rain storm like we did!
Isabelle J — Google review
Easy and scenic walking trail. Not sure it classifies as a ‘hike’ and that’s quite alright by me because it’s still very enjoyable. Tennis-shoes and a bottle of water is all you need to conquer this one. Great area to bring a lunch and the dog to escape the city for a few hours if you’re not really feeling or able to go climb rocks on neighboring Bear Mountain, etc. There are no maps or info on trails at trailhead and the signage, including color trail markers is not the best. You basically have red, white, and blue trails but I’d highly recommend consulting one of the numerous NY trail guides/blogs you can find online before going here. Regardless, the area in general is not that big and if you get lost it won’t take more than a few minutes walking to figure things out. From NYC take the Metro North to Harrison station (Green line). Trailhead is across the parking lot and couldn’t be more than 15 yards from train station, which is awesome. Tons of parking too if you drive (which takes just a bit over an hour from midtown Manhattan) and I think the signs said free parking on Sat/Sun.

This is an easy and very calm hike. Hike/trail takes about 1.5 -2hr to complete. Make sure bring off spray for insect repellent for protection. There’s no bathroom, make sure u stop by service area.

Nestled in the picturesque Hudson Valley, Highlands Country Club has been a cherished family recreation destination since its inception in 1898. Originally a private estate, this club has blossomed into a vibrant social hub for the community. Visitors can enjoy an inviting nine-hole golf course that not only presents an enjoyable challenge but also boasts stunning views of West Point and the Hudson River.
Very good place to go with someone who is just learning how to play golf. Interesting short course of nine holes. In good condition with nice but slow greens. The relatively flat terrain makes it easy for a beginner to get around. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Not crowded so we could play at our own pace without holding anyone up.

Was here for a wedding and reception, recently. Beautiful structure with working fireplace. They make excellent use of the space, holding a few hundred people. Staff moves people around quickly so they can "re set" areas to be used for different things. Employees were all very friendly and the food was quite delicious! Bathrooms were very clean and there is ample parking right next to the structure.

Great find in Garrison! Trails are clearly marked and the views are phenomenal. The majority of the trail is flat and the incline is gradual. The last leg of the trail is a steep incline but once you get to the top, you get a great view looking both north and south! The parking lot fits about 6 cars. You also get a great view of Castle Rock which is awesome!

If you find yourself near the Appalachian Market, you're in for a treat! This bustling deli is a haven for hikers and locals alike, offering an impressive array of delicious food options at great prices. On my recent visit, I indulged in a turkey and cheddar sandwich loaded with fresh veggies and condiments on a roll—absolutely mouthwatering! The portions are generous, making it perfect for refueling after a long hike.

The Bird & Bottle Inn is a charming destination that effortlessly combines fine dining with cozy accommodations. Nestled in beautiful surroundings, this historic property boasts an ever-evolving menu crafted from high-quality ingredients, ensuring each visit offers something new and delightful. Guests rave about the attentive and friendly staff who enhance the overall experience with their warm hospitality.
We live close to Bird & Bottle and find any and every excuse to come here for dinner. The menu changes over time and it's clear that they take care to choose high quality ingredients. Everyone on the wait staff is so kind and attentive. This is easily the best restaurant in the area. My husband and I recently took the opportunity to have a staycation in one of the rooms and the experience only made me love this establishment more. We stayed in the Samuel Warren and both slept very well. The room was perfectly spacious and beautifully decorated. I look forward to the opportunity to stay again, and hopefully for a longer time.

After a brutal work day, I attended dinner here with my boss and my peer. As soon as I pulled into the property I knew we had found the right place. The grounds are beautiful, and the restaurant offers an elite vintage feel. The decor is beautiful and the staff warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. Every plate was a work of culinary art without compromising in taste. We were indecisive of what to order as the menu offered many attractive fares. Our server brought out the head chef, Rob who eloquently explained the menu and offered us a tasting menu instead of the entrees on the menu. He was professional, knowledgeable and his passion for preparing our meal was profound. We agreed to the tasting menu he offered and he did not disappoint! Every plate that came to the table offered individual clean flavors and we thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of his culinary tour. I wish I would’ve taken more pictures to share. The only one I have is of the tuna - perfectly prepared! This place and Chef Rob’s culinary gift is not to be missed!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated in a corner of the main dining room, which was a cozy spot for two. Our server, Nicholas, was friendly and attentive. Our food was excellent. We stayed overnight at the inn in the John Warren room. The room was charming, comfortable, and clean. We appreciated the complimentary champagne and the continental breakfast on the landing outside our room. While we didn't experience the grounds firsthand (only through the window), the location is lovely. Great atmosphere to enjoy a special day.

I’ve had good experiences at Bird and Bottle before, which is why I chose it again for a birthday brunch on July 13. This time, though, it fell short. I reserved a 2:15 PM table in the Library but was moved without notice to a louder dining room next to a large party with children who were often up from their seats. It was hard to have a conversation or enjoy the setting. The service also felt rushed. Although we arrived on time, we were asked to place our entire order, including starters and mains, within minutes. When we asked for a little more time, our server said the kitchen was closing soon. For a 2:15 reservation, that seemed unnecessary since brunch runs until 3 PM. The food and drinks were excellent. I emailed the restaurant afterward to share this feedback privately but did not receive a response.

I just suggested the Bird & Bottle Inn to a photo client of mine who was going to propose because my wife and I love coming here for special occasions and brunch. The food is always excellent, the drinks great, and the setting just beautiful. Likewise, the couple had an amazing experience staying overnight, and loved using the unique rooms for their engagement photos (she said yes!). The event staff were very responsive and helpful. I highly recommend The Bird & Bottle Inn for anything, from dinner to a weekend stay, to a proposal or a wedding!

Been here 5+ times always great! It’s not inexpensive, so you expect top notch all the way around. On 7/16 we had a disappointing meal. Service was great as always, but pork chop was tough, pal flavorless. There was no browning, which brings the flavor on a pork chop.
