Park offers desertlike dune ridges & mature growth forest to explore, plus off-road vehicle area.
Silver Lake State Park is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination in Michigan! The combination of massive sand dunes 🏜️ and the stunning shoreline of Lake Michigan 🌊 makes this park truly unique. The off-roading area is a total free-for-all playground—if you’re into adventure, this is the spot for you 🏁. Just be sure to have your dune flag mounted 🚩 and keep your eyes open out there—it gets wild in the best way. I had my blue Jeep Sport 💙 with me and it conquered the big hill like a champ! The views from the top are nothing short of breathtaking 🏞️. Even if you don’t have an off-road vehicle, you can rent Jeeps 🚙 or hop on a Mac Wood’s Dune Ride for an epic experience 🎢. Pack a lunch 🥪 and relax on the far side of the dunes overlooking Lake Michigan—it’s peaceful, beautiful, and feels like your own little slice of paradise 🌅. Whether you're riding motorcycles 🏍️, Jeeps, or tricked-out trucks, you'll have an unforgettable time. 10/10 recommend!

Great ORV park. Must have current ORV and Trail stickers plus either State park tab on Michigan License Plate or current Out of State resident pass. Lots of sand hills to climb and some water holes. Nice beach area also. Picnic tables, Barbecue grill, and Dogs allowed on six foot leash. Sunset on the lake is stunning.

Silver lake and the dunes is a great place to vacation. Great places to eat, shop, and rent equipment. The state park is a bit less desirable. Bathrooms and showers were consistently dirty. Perhaps the staff cannot keep up with the campers. The people camping this week had no respect for the campground. Constantly leaving the showers and bathrooms a mess. The campgrounds consist mainly of sandy lots. The beach was excellent. My kiddos swam everyday. If I had to do the trip over, I would have chosen a private owned campground. Walked through the campground next door and surprised by the cleanliness of it.

I have not been here since I was a kid, and my parents took the Mac Dune Rides. My husband had never been, so we took our Jeep and went with a group of great friends. We had so much fun, and my husband is hooked. The park is so amazing! The first day it had rained so we started with wet and a little compacted sand and the winds were very strong. As the sand dried and softened, the srive/ride changed. And the sand, it is constantly shifting and changing throughout the day. It was so much different from when we arrived, to when we left. We went back the next day, and it was completely dry and like powder, very little wind, and so totally changed. So not only did we have fun, but we were amazed at nature's work and beauty.

Very much beach. It does get a bit crowded where all the "stuff" is but it extends pretty far so just walk further and find some room. There is a playground, splash pad, bathrooms, and a café. They have all different rentals as well. There are 3 lifeguards on their chair towers, but they are only located near the little restaurant. So if you feel you need someone to watch you, stay near there. The beach is man-made with a really big shelf. So you can walk pretty far in before the water even gets to your waist. The water is pretty warm, not terribly warm, but you can get accustomed to it pretty quickly. The sand is really soft white sand. Very few sticks or anything pokey. The seaguls are quite annoying, but they are doing their job. There is a really nice pier you can walk along and a lighthouse. The beach area is really nice. You can pay for parking or find street parking in the neighborhood. Either way is fine. Not a far walk. There is a nice amphitheater where they soemtimes have live must and events. The carousel is really nice plus there are 2 kids museums one down by thr carousel and another one up on the main street.

What an amazing place. WE have been to sleeping bears dunes days before. But this one is also very nice. So many dunes. U can See this far. Awesome. And u r totally free in the dunes. WE Loved that. No entrance fee. Toilettes at the parking Lot. Many parking spots. I went there with my Family and WE all Loved it. WE will come back.
Rico S — Google review
Stayed 3 nights (Sun-Weds) the weekend after Labor Day, when we knew things would be quiet in the late season. Check-in was easy, staff is friendly. The campground is very empty this time of year, especially during the week. Most tourist attractions and shops are either closed or have limited hours. Lighthouse & Lake Michigan Beach is about a 5 minute drive. The campground is divided by the main road. One side is more woods, and the other side is Silver Lake lakefront. Both have their own entrance and bathroom/shower facilities. The dump station and potable water was easy to find. Sites do not have water hookup, so we filled up our fresh tank before heading to the site. I would imagine larger units might have a more difficult time navigating through the trees and making tight turns. SITE 12 ON THE LAKE SIDE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SITE! Double-sized end/corner lot with a perfect view of Silver Lake and the dunes. Nice beachy area right across from the site where you can put your kayak in, or watch the sunset from the bench there. Showers are unisex single stall with a bench, and each have their own locking door. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. We will always love this park and plan to return many times!
Tracey R — Google review
Don’t attempt going to this beach unless you are in great shape. From the parking lot to the beach is about a three-quarter of a mile hike up and down the sand dunes. The dunes are amazing, but be ready for a workout.

Took my nephews after Macs dune rides. Fun place, good way to have fun and relax with the family and kids. Go karts, putt putt, bumper boats, arcade and a few amusement rides. Pretty clean and well kept.

The kids had a great time! We bought the 5-activity pass for $30 per person, which included go-karts, mini golf, bumper boats, a zip line, and a ride. This was our second visit, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We would definitely come back.

Took a day trip to Lake Michigan, drove North. Ran across this place. My Son and Granddaughter had a Great time. Road the Go Carts, played put put golf, she had never done it. Played in the Arcade. Was a Fantastic End to our Day.
Lori M — Google review
Great Family Fun, especially if you have younger children(5-12). Our older children enjoyed themselves to (19-20). Rates could be better if they created a family pass would be better in my opinion. We had a group of 20. No long lines we went on a Friday around 2:00 pm.
James G — Google review
Go-karts are awesome! Big Ten is great deal! 10 activities for $50. $350 for family of 7. Passengers in double seater ride for free. #10 is the fastest Double seater. #14 red was the fastest single seater. Several other attractions available. Fun day for the kids. Rough aggressive drivers come out in the evening hours.

Fun time at Craig’s Cruisers!! They have a variety of small rides for kids and adults. Most of them have a minimum of 48”, but some allow shorter riders as long as they are with an adult. Just be sure to check the height requirements before purchasing tickets. We went on Saturday and Sunday evenings, and there was no wait time for anything. The arcade was fun, but lots of games were out of order. The staff were nice and helpful, making sure we got a refund on any games that malfunctioned. The tickets are pricey, but the we thoroughly enjoyed all the rides. The zip line was super fun, especially riding it at night right as the sun was going down. The go carts were a hit for both the kids and the adults in our group. The Pearly Whirly and Hammered were also a lot of fun! We didn’t get a chance to do mini golf, since the last entry is 9pm. Maybe next time!

We have been coming to Craig’s for 15+ years since my kids were toddlers! it’s a family tradition every time we come to the dunes

1874 lighthouse on Lake Michigan offering views of the surrounding forests & dunes.
This has never been open to climb during any of my visits, but caught it open this day. Worth the 8 dollar fee to climb. Standard spiral stair climb, 3 landings to rest if you get winded. Plenty of room at the top and on the catwalk outside. Not much room under the lens to get a photo of that though. Info on walls inside about history. Very nice.

Beautiful lighthouse with a small town feel. We loved our experience even though it was very foggy. The little trailer to buy tickets and souvenirs is adorable. We loved the information the guide at the top told us. A must see!
Kate B — Google review
Wow! This is a cool piece of history and an amazing place to visit. My wife and I were fortunate to visit the lighthouse the day when we could tour it. I climbed the 130 steps and enjoyed a beautiful view of the lake and shoreline. The view was worth the $8 admission fee.
Steve B — Google review
Absolutely love visiting this lighthouse and the beach here. I hope to come back many, many times. The lighthouse tour was really cool. The volunteers were knowledgeable and kind. The water and beach here is pristine. I’ve never seen water this clean at a lake. My family and I visited in mid September, there was no fee to park. We paid to do inside the lighthouse.
Vana P — Google review
This is a really cool lighthouse and well maintained. The beach and dunes are really clean and taken care of plus it's just a beautiful view. Plenty of parking, restrooms, and benches to just relax and enjoy the view.
Eclipse M — Google review
Great location with lighthouse set on a wonderful beach, I didn’t go into the lighthouse on this visit but I do intend to at some point in the near future. It wasn’t too busy when I was there middle of July although there was still a little queue to get into the actual lighthouse, I guess they only allow so many in at the one time.
Brian M — Google review
Beautiful old lighthouse, yet very different from most around the area in it's brick construction. Easy to walk to from a nearby parking lot. There is a tiny camper set up in the lot where you can buy a few souvenirs and also tickets to enter the lighthouse and walk to the top. It's 130 steps up to the viewing deck, but it's free to just walk out onto the beach and check it out from the outside. The beach here is clean and gorgeous. One of Lake Michigan's numerous pristine beaches.

Beautiful lighthouse, and beautiful surroundings. Good access to see Fresnel lens, lamp, and equipment at the top level. Friendly volunteers who know their stuff about the lighthouse. Surrounding dunes are lovely.

Sands Restaurant is a casual and relaxed dining spot offering a variety of American comfort dishes, salads, and daily breakfast options. Despite initial concerns about negative reviews, visitors were pleasantly surprised by the freshly prepared food and friendly staff. A group of eight diners enjoyed a satisfying breakfast at Sands Restaurant while visiting the dunes, particularly praising the delicious bowls.
The food was freshly made. Staff was friendly. Food was ready in 15 mins. We didn’t want to go here due to the bad reviews but there was nothing else available at the time. I’m glad we did though… we didn’t receive the same experience as some of the most recent reviews. I would recommend.

Kind of a bad showing. Although I understand staff is currently hard to find. We were seated quickly and drinks were served but not once refilled. Waited an hour and a half for our food and some items never served. My 1/4 lb hamburger was smaller and more dry than a McD's patty 😬 The owner was kind and apologetic... offered to take items off the tab.

Had a great breakfast at the Sands Restaurant while visiting the dunes. Our group of 8 was very satisfied with the food and service. The bowls are great!!
Mike M — Google review
Pretty good food, not like it used to be but glad they're open and another option for the area! Service was decent, they were pretty quick with the food. I did however ask for a napkin 2 times but never got one. Ordered the chicken club sandwich, the fries were incredible but the chicken on the sandwich were similar to salad strips that may have been microwaved. Not super impressed with the chicken, but it was tasty enough.
Alicia S — Google review
Five of us had lunch there today. We all throughly enjoyed our food. The coffee was great. Especially delicious was the fried asparagus bits. The owner was our waitress who was very friendly and accommodating to 5 women ordering a meal. Even though, she had closed, she didn't rush us at all to finish. I would highly recommend it. Don't forget the asparagus, it's not on the menu.
Lois L — Google review
Couple burgers to go and enjoyed on the picnic table. Simple and quick. To quick perhaps as they forgot my cheese. No worries as they brought me a slice out and a sausage treat for my pup. Always go here to get lunch, and always get great friendly service. Locally-owned as well. Much support. 😁

Advise anyone to not come here. Bathrooms were gross!!!!! Looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in forever.. the floor was dirty in the main dining area. All I kept thinking was truly how clean is the kitchen area.. I walked past the kitchen very quick for fear I would see something I didn’t want to see when going to bathroom. I wanted to walk out but my husband didn’t want to get up and walk out. Food is very pricey for what you get. It was run by kids but we didn’t have any issues with them. They were friendly to us. They don’t have a waitress so you have to go to the register to order your food.
Pam R — Google review
What a joke. This place is ran by kids. Ordered our food and waited 1 1/2 hours. Finally get my food but no napkins or silverware. Had to ask, then waited another 10 minutes. Didn't get tartar sauce for my fish. Asked a waitress, then waited, asked another person, and more waiting, 10 mins later had to ask a 3rd person. Never got my tartar sauce. Ended up walking across the street to buy my own.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful ice cream experience, look no further than Silver Scoops! This charming little shop not only boasts an impressive selection of ice cream flavors but also offers a variety of food options, making it a rare find in this small town. The atmosphere is lively, especially on weekends, but visiting during quieter times allows you to savor their delicious chicken sandwiches and onion rings without the rush.
After doing the dunes, me and my family wanted ice cream. This place was the only one open so we gave it a shot, and OH MY. This is some of the best ice cream I have had. 10/10, would recommend.
Joshua L — Google review
Nice little ice cream shop with some food. Biggest selection I have seen in this small town when it comes to ice cream as well as food. Not many places around for food options. It was super packed all weekend and we went Monday when it was more calmed down. Chicken sandwich and onion rings were good. they had a few other options as well. Really wish places around would offer a good burger! Ice cream was good and large portions. Also offer kiddie cone size. Plenty of outdoor covered seating.
Heather — Google review
Great place to stop after a day at the dunes! Was also dog friendly and had the best pup cups!!!
Danielle R — Google review
Loved that they have food options!! There are not a lot of places in silver lake to eat. The vegan ice cream is the best I’ve ever had! They are so generous with portion size and the employees were so kind!
Cassandra — Google review
What a gem! Looking for an ice cream spot, we came across an aweso.e little restaurant! They smoke their own meat on site for what I can only imagine is GREAT BBQ! They also serve sandwiches and wraps. We, however, didn't know that and came after eating dinner. My girls got Jr size cones. The flavor offering is extensive! My husband got a shake (the awake shake) in butter toffee and loved it. Even our doggie got a sundae! I ordered a strawberry chocolate Sunday and it was to die for. BONUS: plenty of outdoor seating, great landscaping, and a great view of the lake!
Shawna B — Google review
Wanted to like this place! The soft serve was melting weirdly fast, we were standing there watching it literally melt all over and when I went in to grab a bowl to contain it I mentioned how melty it was and the girl said “it’s because it’s hot and windy out”.. it was cool out so I don’t believe that was the problem.. our other two ice creams were vanilla with the cherry dip and the dip had a horrible taste. For $30 it wasn’t worth the hassle or the quality. The atmosphere is good.
Hilary G — Google review
We have gone twice this season and they have been closing at 9:36pm even though the hours posted say 10pm. Both times the workers have closed in our face ignoring us at the window when their open sign is lit up. Love that they offer vegan ice cream but disappointed with their service. -update: you changed your google hours after my review :) Even your Facebook hours say 10pm on Thursdays. Thanks anyways…
Gaby B — Google review
It’s very very hard to find an ice cream place that has good dairy-free ice cream. It’s especially hard to find one that offers a dairy-free twist. Silver Scoops has amazing dairy-free ice cream!! Service was quick and an enjoyable place.
