I love walmart. I always get I need at Walmart. I got a very nice quality boots for my husband with a affordable price. Very convenient store and it's close to home. Employee are approachable and nice to all their customers.

Possibly the busiest store in Fort Payne. There was a time when I would have said you could find whatever you needed at Walmart, including an associate, to cheerfully show you where it is. But today you cannot. Walmart is much more selective regarding what they sell. Although you may be able to occasionally spot a cheerful employee, it is probably because they just finished their shift. The most common expression I see on an associate anymore is one of apprehension. It has been longer than many associates, not all, but most have been alive since I have been greeted with "Welcome to Walmart, what can I help you find today?" Most customers probably don't miss Walmart greeters. But they were one of Walmart's best innovations. I do not miss the days and locations where every customer leaving the store after shopping and purchasing merchandise was stopped to produce a receipt for an associate who was charged with determining whether the customer's goods matched those on the receipt. Apparently, it was a loss prevention practice. Just one final insult that every customer that purchased something was subjected to. I felt it was an effective sales prevention practice. If I didn't shop and buy at Walmart, I wasn't harassed for spending my money there. Charging customers for bags was another "worst practice" implemented by Walmart. Leave the cost of bags in "cost of operations" or "overhead" rather than sticking the customer at checkout. It was nearly as reprehensible as the grocery chain that makes customers insert coins to rent and pay a deposit for a shopping cart if they patronize that company.
J. B — Google review
I had been shopping at this walmart bc their app used to be pretty accurate as to whether or not something was in stock but that's not the case any more. I tried to buy a garden hoe 3 weeks or a month ago that was out in the garden center. When I got to the checkout it wouldn't ring up. They told me I couldn't buy it because it wasn't in their system but that they would tell the appropriate people and that it would be fixed. Well, I just tried to buy the same hoe and it wouldn't ring up AGAIN! It's been weeks, and that product is ON A SHELF. Every time I'm there i see the garden center employees doing the exact same thing.... messing with the bulbs and seeds but very evidently there's plenty that needs done. How do you have merchandise out and then tell me I can't buy it? In addition to this, the last time I went... they had so much produce that they were stacking crates on the floor in front of the coolers. First of all, you can't stack food on the floor like that, and it's not being cooled appropriately. This store is wild.

A beautiful Walmart in fort Payne it says supercenter that means you will find everything you are looking for inside this building.

Tonight I saw the most HATEFUL, SMARTELIC, DISRESPECTFUL Walmart employee I've EVER encountered. She stood in the way of a handicapped ♿️ lady and refused to move! She was a young looking Hispanic girl in a Walmart smock at the front on the grocery side, walking behind another young employee, to the front of the store. The lady moved to the side, obviously waiting for them to get by and they both just stopped and stood there blocking her! The handicapped lady told them she was trying to get over there and she quickly snapped back that they were trying to get OVER THERE, in such a sarcastic tone! 😲 Shocked! I just can't believe what I saw and heard! If you're shopping in this store with a handicapped ♿️ person, DON'T LET THEM OUT OF YOUR SITE because this store is not handicapped friendly. Please educate your employees on respect and how to conduct themselves while in uniform.

March 10, 2025 4pm I was shopping here, and in my I cart I had also cold/flu medication and a bottle of wine. I was asked for ID (I'm 61), and I presented my canadian driver license. I was told , I can't buy those things because I need US issued ID, my canadian license is no good.
Slawomir J — Google review
I love this Walmart, but every time I want to buy something from the jewelry department, I have to wait 30+ minutes to be attended almost every time. I've asked customer service up front to page them twice already today and have pressed the button for assistance multiple times in the past 40 minutes and still haven't been attended. Very discouraging.
Brianna G — Google review
I probably am expecting too much from the electronics department but it is difficult to catch the Straight Talk contract employees and no one else can help me with my phone and service, so straight talk is inconvenient for me. Also, I can't use my phone when paying at Walmart, this too is highly inconvenient for me as I don't take my purse in with me in order to be hands free I usually just take my phone in but I can't pay via Google or Apple only Walmart pay.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Fort Payne, AL, look no further than Santa Fe Cattle Company. This charming eatery is part of an American chain renowned for its Southwestern-inspired menu that features mouthwatering hand-cut steaks, sizzling fajitas, and tender ribs. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by the playful sight of peanut shells scattered across the floor—a fun touch that kids adore while they wait for their meals.
Our server, Hannah Justice, was amazing! She recommended the BEST cocktail! My husband and I had steak and my daughter had chicken fingers. Everything was so good! Even the side salads were awesome. Thanks!

As a tourist, this restaurant went beyond my expectations. Got asked if we wanted rolls, and of course, we said yes. The rolls came no less than 1-2 minutes later. Lightning fast! I ordered a 6oz steak with a side of seasoned fries and a ranch salad. The salad was amazing, but I couldn't finish all of it since I wanted to save for my meal. The steak was a little dry and could've been better. When I laid eyes on the fries, my mouth watered!! The atmosphere was so lively. And a Yeehaw happy birthday to Noah, who caught the attention of many in the restaurant. The ride from the mountainside was truly beautiful, and I highly recommend other tourists to check out the sunset from a mountainside or a balcony during the evening. Thank you to our beautiful waitress, who recommended The Hatter Cafe to us. If she hadn't told us about it, we'd have to miss out on something amazing. Thank you, Santa Fe Cattle Company.

We just had an impeccable meal at Santa Fe cattle company, in Fort Payne each item on its own was fantastic!!. but even better than the food was our service by Miss Nikki Kane, who was an excellent server and this is coming from two veteran Las Vegas bartender and servers. when we are back in Fort Payne, we will definitely be back!

While staying in Ft Payne for a four day business trip, I ate at the Santa Fe Cattle Company twice for dinner. The first night I enjoyed the mozzarella sticks that were absolutely melt in your mouth perfect along with the Blackened Steak Salad. Such a great meal. On the second occasion I had surf and turf combo pick two with steak and shrimp. Both meals were excellent. As I was solo dining I sat at the bar and enjoyed great service on both occasions. This will definitely make it into my new rotation once I am in the area full time.

We’ve eaten here many many times. But our most recent visit was hands down one of the best experiences! Our waitress Mandy Jones was exceptionally fantastic. She never let our drinks run dry, was very attentive when we needed something & just all around pleasant. She never once treated us as if we were just another table. She wasn’t rushed with her service & made pleasant conversation with us. She was one of the best servers we’ve had in a long time. Food was perfection & came out in a timely manner. Love our local Santa Fe!!

Magaly was amazing! We had such a great experience thanks to Magaly. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. She checked in often without being overbearing and made great recommendations from the menu. Our drinks were never empty, and the food came out exactly how we ordered it. You can tell she really cares about her guests having a good experience. Definitely ask for Maggie if you’re dining here you’ll be in great hands!

I had the pleasure of being served by Mandy Jones at Santa Fe this week, and she was absolutely outstanding! From the moment we sat down, Mandy was warm, attentive, and welcoming. She made sure every detail of our meal was perfect, checking in often without ever being intrusive. Her friendly personality and genuine care made the experience even more enjoyable. Mandy went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of, and it truly made our visit memorable. I highly recommend asking for Mandy if you want top-notch service—you won’t be disappointed!

Chicken wings restaurant

Nestled conveniently in downtown Fort Payne, Jeffersons is a delightful eatery that captures the essence of American comfort food. This vibrant restaurant, located just off the interstate and next to Taco Bell, specializes in mouthwatering chicken wings, juicy burgers, and fresh oysters. With an extensive menu that caters to diverse palates, there's truly something for everyone at Jeffersons. The atmosphere here is perfect for sports enthusiasts; large TVs adorn the walls showcasing live games while you enjoy a cozy pub vibe.
Oh my goodness, I discovered this little gem on a trip to Louisiana from Ohio. I saw the sign and stopped. I was tired from driving and very hungry. I saw the fried pickles sign on the door as I walked in and knew I was gonna order some. Being from southern Ohio, we have fried pickles, but the ones in the south I have found to be so much better. As we walked up to the counter to be seated, we were greeted with a warm, friendly smile and asked, "Seating for two?". I had explained that we were not from there and was traveling through and wanted to know what was the best thing on the menu to order. The girl replied with fried pickles and wings, and anything could be double dipped. I was already sold on the pickles, so we took our seats and ordered our drinks. The waitress came back with a basket of the pickles and told us it was free Friday fried pickles. I was over the moon excited. They were absolutely delicious 😋. We ordered burgers and small boneless wings with the sauce on the side (we had gotten to different sauces to try). Everything was absolutely amazing, but it was so much food that we had to get go boxes. Y'all check this place out. You won't be disappointed! Service was very friendly, very fast, and the food is over the moon exceptional!

Stop at this wonderful place on a bus tour trip because the Burger King down the road didn’t have enough employees to cook our food!!! The service was awesome. We Bombarded them and they took very good care of us and the food was absolutely delicious especially the cinnamon butter with the sweet potato fries. Gotta try it, should be put on top of the cake. Thank you young ladies for your great service, especially Madison!!!

Edit: heard from the "owner" and he was as rude as the staff. So go at your own risk. We love this location in Fort Payne and go multiple times and week. We enjoy bingo on Tuesdays and always have at least a group of 6. But last night the bartender (who said she was the manager) was rude and combative. She angrily told the restaurant that "if you didn't hear the bingo numbers called then it is your fault". She is correct, of course, but we are normally having a good time, laughing and egging each other, congratulating each other when someone wins. And the bingo caller was not repeating the numbers continuously. She did it some times but she started calling the numbers very fast and not repeating them. The bartender stating the obvious as if a riot was about to start was unnecessary. She seems to be on a power trip. I asked for her managers number and she gave me a GM's number, which I presume is likely a coworkers number. I don't believe Jeffersons has a GM, just an owner. I will call the number and talk to the person but I don't have any hope that the bartender will be talked to. I and all the other bingo patrons deserve an apology from her rude self next Tuesday. If a riot starts I will be right there with her holding it down but we are a croud of middle aged, overweight, balding Fort Payne residents and we are not likely to start a riot of any sort. We are just having a good time with our friends. We stopped going to Limons for bingo because we enjoyed Jeffersons so much. Please do not let your one terrible employee ruin that for us all. The server last night, Faith, was also terrible. She took our order and hid in the kitchen the rest of the night. I cleared our table and another woman got our to go containers. Not the best experience last night. Do better Jeffersons!
Tundra G — Google review
We came here last night. We arrived right at 10:30 and they didn't close until 11pm. We were told they had turned off the grill so we could only order fried food. The manager made our waitress bring our food to us in to go containers in bags. The chicken wings had zero seasoning on them. Management walked past our table several times and never spoke. The only bright spot was our waitress. She was very kind. The manager definitely didn't do her any favors making her bring out our food that way.

Heather was our server and did a fantastic job! Food was great and service was fast! 100% one of our regular spots. If your looking for good food and drinks 10/10 recommend.

I love this store! My husband and I recently moved to this area and this is by far one of the best places here to shop. They're always getting new products, and they offer a customer rewards program that regularly saves me money and I often get coupons for $10 & $5 off to spend in-house. They have an excellent collection of furniture at very reasonable prices, and they get new stuff in pretty often. They also have high end makeup, health & beauty items, household items, electronics and much more! I can't say enough good things about it!!! 🖤

Do better !!! There was actually POOP on the restroom floor - like piles of it …. They didn’t even have the restroom closed off - disgusting !

I used to love Big lots ,but they aren't as much of a Discount Store as they used to be. I noticed that all Big lots changed when they began selling furniture! They need to go back to how they once were &keep their prices lower. They are now higher on a lot of items than competing stores! After all, they are just like Ollie's and not a store for the wealthy!

Eddy and a young lady that helped me went above and beyond. I had what I thought a complicated return. They we the best customer service and helpful to get me in and out quickly with resolving the matter. Definitely will shop their furniture dept again.

Just went in to look at furniture to further furnish our home and had a great experience. We were greeted promptly and asked if we needed assistance. Loria was quick to show us around at all of the dressers and chest of drawers and night stands they had available. She explained the progressive leasing in a way that we understood and even gave us a tip on how to save a little money when we finally were ready to purchase our bedroom furniture. We came in unsure of the style or even what color scheme we wanted and we left with furniture picked out and even the total price of everything. We will definitely be using big lots for all of our furniture needs

They was pretty busy today and only 1 person working furniture however when we was checking out up front the girl was super friendly and said someone had went to furniture to help my mom. I liked how they was helping each other out, that says alot about that store. And the 2 workers that we spoke with was super nice and helpful.

This was a great trip. Awesome to see the town and canyon loved and written about by Randy Owen. I know it sounds silly but I asked God if I could run into Randy in town. That didn't happen but we did run by his home.

Whether you're craving fair trade organic coffee, frozen blended drinks, or scrumptious Panini sandwiches, The Spot has something for everyone.
Nice old world atmosphere and can seat plenty people. Medium roast brew and mocha, plain avacado toast and loaded avacado with egg substituted instead of bacon. Brew with milk and ocha are pretty good and little open faced breakfast is good as well.

Friendly folks serving great coffee in an environment that is steeped in history and harkens back to a time when such shops where cornerstones of culture. The coffee was freshly ground and prepared on an excellent espresso machine with a fresh shot and perfectly steamed milk for a cappacino. The strawberry rhubarb muffin was fresh and tasty as well. Excellent.

Taco Bell is an American fast-food chain that was established in 1962 and is a division of Yum! Brands, Inc. It offers Mexican-inspired dishes such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and specialty items. Despite some mixed reviews about service at specific locations, many customers have had positive experiences with the food and service. Some have praised the delicious potato tacos and appreciated the friendly and helpful staff who go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction.
I'm here about ever two weeks when I do my shopping in town. They've been really good most of the time in the last year. They hired much better employees than they had 4-5 years ago. I use to travel the country from CA to NJ to FL, been to TacoBells everywhere, and was so disappointed with my hometowns own. I'm pleased they have improved so much, and I'll be there again in a few days.

Came in today and paid over $35 for next to no food. I ordered triple chicken on a power bowl, and I got about 2oz. of chicken. My wife's nachos were less than half the bowl, and we paid $5 for their new fries that equalled about 50 cents worth of food. Absolutely ridiculous, even for a fast food place!

As a random stop along the highway, probably one of the best Taco Bell‘s I’ve ever been to. All the food was served generously and as Best as Taco Bell should be . I was told to wait at the drive through speaker to hear them call back my mobile (app) order. However, it eas raining pretty bad so after the otder flashed on the screen, I wait a minute or so and pulled forward. This is because I was getting drench from the rain and if I rolled up my window I would not be able to hear them anyway. At the window, the young lady told me I could not get order bc I was supposed to wait at the speaker for them to call it back. After I reminded her of the rain and explained she repeated herself. I think told her to forget my order and left. I didn't need it repeated back. I ordered on the app. Will NOT eat at this location again! They need to use common sense!

This Taco Bell (Fort Payne AL location) is always good. I have been through multiple times in the last week and they have gotten my order right every single time (most get something wrong due to me asking for sauces to be removed etc), but they got it right every time and it was so GOOD! They also don't skimp on the nacho fry dust/flavor which is huge to me because if I wanted regular fries I could get them almost anywhere. I love the nacho fries and it makes me so happy when I can actually taste that they are nacho fries!

Order for online pickup. Came in, checked in, and waited 20 mins before inquiring about our order. Said they haven’t started because of drive through(9pm and wasn’t busy). Waited another 5 mins and my wife and kids are getting tired of waiting, asked to cancel order, said they can’t and I can’t on the app. Waited another 5 minutes and just left without any food and negative 33$. We did get our drinks, so there’s that. My last online pickup went same way, but I just waited it out. Almost 30 minutes before I got my food. TLDR: go through drive through if you want any service.

New China is the ultimate destination for takeout, boasting exceptional cuisine and a cozy ambiance. With an extensive menu that has garnered praise over the years, this hidden gem offers unparalleled comfort in every dish. When feeling under the weather, their egg drop or wonton soup, along with shrimp mee fun, are highly recommended. For a delightful treat, indulge in their delectable orange chicken. The aim is to experience the entire menu at least once as it showcases an array of flavorful options.
Wow, this place is amazing. Fast and friendly service and the restaurant has a very clean interior and you can see inside the kitchen from the counter. Very sanitary place with awesome affordable food. I got the lunch special sesame chicken with fried rice and after tax it was $8. The portions are very good, I had a good bit left over to take for dinner. The fried rice is nice and has a tasty five spice flavor. Sesame chicken is sweet, crunchy, and saucy.

I love my bean curd "tofu" and mixed vegetables in a white spicy sauce. I'm totally addicted and sometimes I mix it up but I love that dish. They go out of there way to make a custom order. This place is simply the best!

Came in tonight with my sister to get some food. Noone at the front desk to greet us, stood there for a few minutes until a guy came from the back and tapped the shoulder of the guy sitting at a table who finally got up and took our order. Then when we finally received our food and got home to eat we realized the chicken pieces were all overcooked to the point of being tiny rocks. Inedible. 0/5 all around from food quality to service. Avoid it all costs. Not worth your time or money.

We were craving Chinese on Mother’s Day and New China did not disappoint. I had chicken with mixed vegetables and egg drop soup. My hubby had chicken lo mien and two egg rolls. All was very good and fed us two nights. Also, so affordable at $21 and some change. Definitely more affordable than fast food. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures.

2nd time getting food here. The fried rice tastes like bagged yellow rice. Except no flavor. The sesame chicken barely had any sauce. And they didn't have any sweet & sour sauce packs. I don't really like giving not so great reviews but it's was the same both times I got food here. Time to try a different Chinese restaurant here

I just tried the Kung po chicken. Wife got the sesame chicken. Got it take out. Food was still very hot when we got home. Lots of flavor. Kung po chicken had some kick. Fried rice was very good. Very good Chinese food overall. Highly recommended.

This is a small restaurant that could easily be overlooked, but don't sleep on this establishment. Easily one of the best Asian restaurants in the county. Food is prepared fresh and always hot, flavorful, and delicious. It was voted best of Dekald County 2023 for a reason.

Osaka Sushi & Steakhouse is a top choice for a memorable dining experience. The hibachi section offers entertaining chefs and excellent food, making it perfect for bringing friends and family together. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is lively. Guests rave about the incredible sushi, including the spicy tuna and California rolls, as well as the delectable chicken dishes. While some have noted occasional service lapses on slower nights, overall feedback emphasizes the attentive staff and high-quality cuisine.
Fantastic service, delicious sushi, and I'm an expert having traveled in Asia for 20 years.

The best eel roll I have ever had! A whole eel/unagi fillet on top of a large delicious roll stuffed with shrimp tempura, avocado, crab meat, and I am sure other stuff! I always feel I can never get enough unagi, but this time I had plenty! It was rich and delicious!! The calamari really seemed to be heavily breaded tempura imitation crab meat, it was very crunchy and delicious, even although I'm pretty sure it was not calamari, the grilled onions and jalapenos were quite good with it

This was our first time visiting Osaka in Fort Payne, and we had a wonderful experience! My husband and I ordered the hibachi steak, and I had sushi. The hibachi was absolutely delicious—the meat was cooked perfectly, and we both loved the flavors. The sushi menu has so many varieties to choose from that it actually made it hard to decide, which is a good problem to have! The atmosphere is very family-friendly, and the hibachi experience was not only tasty but also entertaining. It’s a great place to enjoy dinner with family, relax, and have fun at the same time. We’ll definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

We have eaten here many times, The food is always great. This time we were celebrating some high school graduations so we had a large group and decided to do a hibachi dinner and show. As usual the food was great, The service was good but the show was lacking. We really ended up just watching someone cook, He really had no flare. Dinner was a good experience but could have been much better.

Let's talk about how GREAT it was!! Colton was our server, he was on point and top notch! He had great input and didn't skip a beat!!!! The food was fast and PERFECT!! Oh lord was it yummy!! I got hibachi chicken, the hubby got the Ninja meal. I'm way too full now. Can't wait to go back and haven't even left the parking lot 😉

I loved my Sushimi & Nigiri. The sea weed salad and the miso soup are unbelievably good. For the main course I had the Zen Special, the Sunshine Roll and the Koi Roll because they had the most fish in them... Red Snapper, Yellow Tail, Albacore Tuna & Salmon. I also had the Octopus & Eel Nigiri. It was delicious! I drank unsweetened tea and it was good quality tea. I studied the menus that are on google and also the menu online at their website beforehand. We had good service and were seated in a booth in the room behind the bar. There is a corporate charm to the atmosphere. My dining partner ordered from the Hibatchi even though we were in a booth. We were here at 1:30pm. Study the menu’s online before you go to the restaurant. There is so much more I would like to try.

No wait on a Friday night. Stopped in for dinner after a photoshoot. The server was funny friendly and a pleasure. The food came out hot fast and very tasty. The king crab roll was fantastic with just enough spice. I had the hibachi chicken, great amount with perfect flavor. Definitely glad we stopped in.

My husband and I love Sushi but find it really hard to find sushi as good as we get at Osaka. Went outside our norm today and try another place and hated everything I got. I could literally go to Osaka and order the crab Rangoon and just eat that it's so good! The tuna Tataki is delicious too! My favorite roll is the submarine doll and they have som of the yummiest hibachi noodles as well!

Little River Burgers & Brews is a small but impressive spot that packs a big punch with its quality food and friendly staff. The Fried Pickles, Hot Lemon Pepper Wings, and Mushroom Burger are all amazing choices. Despite the packed crowd, the food comes out hot and fresh, making the wait worth it. The old-school charm blended with new school vibes in Fort Payne, AL makes for an encouraging experience. The chicken fingers with homemade sauce are perfect for a light yet satisfying meal.
My husband and I tried Little River Burgers and Brew this afternoon. It’s a nice, quaint place in Fort Payne. I had the nachos and my husband had a pizza burger and fries. The nachos were very good and had queso, pico, large chunks of chicken, guacamole, salsa and ranch that they make in house. The burger and fries portions were decent and everything was tasty. They have inside and outside seating. Their menu has a lot of different burgers to choose from and we will be back. I recommend trying if you are in the area.

We are visiting the area and decided to stop in. It's a cute burger place with inside and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside because it was a nice day. We started off with the fried pickles. They were delicious! We also ordered a burger and club sandwiches. All the food was good especially the garlic parmesan fries. The only area that I feel could use some love is the outdoor seating area. Our server was great and we are glad we stopped by!

After reading reviews of places to eat in the area of Fort Payne, this was one of three choices we made. Baylee was our server at the bar & she was helpful with info about the area. A live band was playing on our Saturday evening, which was an added bonus. They played a variety of music that wasn't too loud at all considering it was being played inside & we were still able to have a normal conversation. We ordered the Club Sandwich and the Pepper Jelly Burger with a side of Pimento Cheese, both orders with Garlic Parmesan fries & we were pleasantly surprised on how good it all tasted. I recommend eating your portions fresh, as the fries were not good as leftovers the next day. The environment was welcoming & the establishment seemed like the perfect find for a local spot!

This is a small place packing a big punch! And if there's a wait, it's definitely worth it! We stopped by for lunch as we were passing through town, and we were incredibly impressed with the quality of food this place put out! We tried the Fried Pickles, the Hot Lemon Pepper Wings and the Mushroom Burger. Literally, they were all AMAZING! We did have a bit of a wait after ordering, but the place was packed, and with all things considered, the food came out hot and fresh and was definitely worth the wait. We're gonna return next time we pass through the area. We recommend you check them out if you haven't already!

Had a great pub burger. Got the bacon and fried egg burger. Fries were also good. Would eat here again the next time I am in the area.
B L — Google review
Customer service was nice and being able to sit on the patio with our dogs was great but the food was not great. The smash burger was not a “smash” burger, it was a double cheeseburger. The Cowpoke burger, awful. It was the driest most cooked piece of meat I’ve ever seen. You could tell it was a frozen patty cooked to oblivion. The fries were good. It was sad how bad the food was since it’s called “burgers” and brews. The beers were good but the burgers aren’t worth the visit to this place. McDonald’s makes better burger for cheaper.

Nature & Parks
Nestled atop Lookout Mountain in Northeast Alabama, DeSoto State Park spans 3,502 acres and offers a picturesque natural retreat. Known for its waterfalls, fragrant wildflowers, and serene environment, the park provides various accommodation options including luxury mountain chalets, log cabins, and rustic campsites. Visitors can indulge in a range of outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking along 25 miles of trails or biking.
We had a wonderful time. There's so much to do here. The campground is clean and well-maintained. The campground itself has plenty to do, but there there's a lot of sightseeing around the area. Caves, mountains, canyons, waterfalls plenty of God's beautiful creation to take in. We spent a full week packed with activities. The number one
Anthony P — Google review
We have held the Johnson family reunion here for 40 something years now where most of our family from all over the southeast US converges to enjoy a long weekend together. We always enjoy our time here whether we're in an A-frame chalet or a rustic cabin. They have two dog friendly cabins which we always take advantage of, as well as a fire pit (bring camp chairs), a front porch that used to be screened (but is no longer screened and that is something I do miss). There is a fully equipped kitchen, although I always prefer to pack my favorite easy-clean pans, skillets and utensils. The cabins have a wood-burning fireplace indoors as well so the cabins typically do smell a bit like campfire indoors-something to note if you were sensitive to that. Their front desk is always helpful with information regarding the local hikes available. There is a park, a volleyball court, and a swimming pool, on site as well as a store with basic food and camping supplies and gifts. You can buy firewood there as well as fire starters, lighters etc. at the country store they have also subtracted the screaming eagle zip line and that's something you can also pay to do. It's about $70 per person which is a little bit steep considering the zip line but our two teenagers had fun doing this. There's also a kayaking tour available nearby and that something a big group of our family did together that was fun. There are trails right from the state park as well as numerous local trails and things to do. De Soto Falls in Indian River, Falls and Little River Canyon scenic Drive, and Little River Canyon Center are also something I'd recommend along the way. The country music group Alabama has a museum about 20 minutes away since they are from Fort Payne as well. Because there is bear activity, you have to take your trash to the front desk to dispose of it and dumpsters. We have over the years, found a dead scorpion between our sheets, and this particular year ticks are extremely active and have had multiple people with ticks on them, even not being in the woods just walking through the grass so just a heads up to remember to check for ticks! This is a state park that we really enjoy.

Beautiful place, waterfalls, hiking trails, pool and campground. Restaurant open on the weekends. Different picnic areas, dog friendly. Some easy hikes and some strenuous if you want to get to the bottom of DeSoto falls.
Kaja S — Google review
This is officially one of my favorite state parks now! Everyone was so friendly! The staff and campers. I felt very welcome here. Lots and lots of stuff to do with just the campground! Including the DeSoto falls. The only negative thing was the roads in and out we're so dangerously steep. But if you can make the climb, then it's definitely worth this stay!
Laura M — Google review
First, I’ll start with the campground ⛺️. Hands down the best campground I’ve camped at to date. The ladies at the Country Store where you check in are super friendly and very helpful. Warning cell service in the campground is very limited and the only service that works is Starlink. Also, deer frequently run through the campground so take care about leaving food out unless you don’t mind sharing with the wildlife. Second, De Soto Falls is about 7 miles up the road. Very beautiful man made falls surrounded by the beauty of nature, some very cool artistic stairs, and a very cold mountain water lake. No shore fishing permitted and its swim at your own risk. And again, warning no cell service available here. You have to get five miles towards town before you pick up cell service. Third, this is the home town of the band Alabama so if you’re a fan you can drive in to the historic downtown area and take selfies with their statues.
Susan H — Google review
We’ve camped here two years in a row and drive the 13 hours because we LOVE it here. It’s so nice and calm in primitive camping. Theres the options to showers and flush toilets in the main campground included if you’d like them. Some good little hikes in the area & our dog just loves the fall foliage
Adrianna L — Google review
Let me begin with a couple of things 1) I came just for the DeSoto waterfall; 2) There are other activities and lodging throughout the premises; 3) For non-Alabama residents, this DeSoto Falls is located in Alabama. Getting there can be a little adventurous due to spotty cellphone reception thoroughout the mountains. Save/download/print out the directions before you go. Also once you've crossed into the park, follow the posted signage to reach your final destination. If you are planning to hike down to DeSoto Waterfall basin/pool, its entrance is the unmarked parking lot about 5 mins from the picnic/observation area. Following the directions provided by the park will lead you to an observation point. Double back and look for the vacant parking strip, that's the trail entrance. There's limited space availability and parking on the grass is prohibited. I did the trail along the river edge to the basin. It's a moderate level hike as the trail has a steep incline section, large boulders and exposed tree roots along the naturally wooded and humidity retaining narrow path. It definitely isn't paved so proper attire and hydration is recommended for you to bring. The path is clearly marked along the trees. Pics I'm posting are from the trail. Yes I would do this trail again but as I mentioned there are some other activities and sights to see in the state park. The visitor center has supplies and well stocked. Bathrooms were clean and orderly. Staff members were friendly and helpful.
Ashley M — Google review
I would to say I would give this place 5 stars but the gps took us to the wrong place and then when did arrive to the park, it was definitely a lot to do. A few different trails but we came for the big waterfall. The lady at the front desk made me feel like an idiot. We drove an hour away. Also to get to the big fall you have to pay $4. So we parked further away and did the trail. It was a real nice hike. I thought I was gonna die on the way back going up hill. And the water was freezing but was nice after sweating.

DeSoto Falls is a stunning waterfall located on the West Fork of the Little River in Alabama. It's named after the Spanish explorer, Fernando de Soto. The falls are part of DeSoto State Park, which offers various outdoor activities and is conveniently located near Fort Payne. While it may be difficult to see the waterfalls from the viewing area, many visitors recommend going down below for a better view.
These Falls are gorgeous. There is a machine to use your credit card to pay at the start of the trail to the overlook. Parking at trailheads fill up fast even first thing of a morning. The water looks so pretty. Beautiful spot to have a picnic.

We stopped by for a quick look at the falls. It was a weekday and there was only a couple of people there at the time. We felt like we had the place all to ourselves. The falls are gorgeous and it is so peaceful out there.
Nikki A — Google review
The first time we went here it was the middle of Covid season and everyone in the whole world was trying to do outdoors stuff, because it was supposedly the only safe thing to do. So the parking lot was hopelessly jam-packed with people and even on-street parking with people parking in the ditch for a half mile back past the trail head parking!! So we could not see anything at all that first time which was a real shame because the falls were thundering so loud it was shaking the parking lot!! This time we went and it was barely a trickle by comparison inspite of raining for a solid week. Anyway this time was still a real treat. I only wish we had taken the time to grab a kayak and paddle out on the water for a little while. Their beach uses fake sand, but what can you expect I guess. Do be careful, there are rock cliffs you can fall off, and would likely die!! There is not much trail to see from the top of the falls, but you can wander around and get a few good shots and panoramics. However I highly recommend you spend the majority of your time on the trails that go from the trail head parking lot down the street. There are multiple trails, the bluff trail is good if you are not very athletic. But if you want a challenge then take the lower valley trail. The rocks on this trail are amazing!! On your way back, look for the cave trail detour and take that. You are gonna love the small cave you find. It actually has a BIG entrance, but does not go very far back. It does make for a nicely framed photo opportunity! Make sure you bring proper hiking boots if you are going to take these trails! The extra ankle support is a life saver!! There is some really interesting geology around here! Pay special attention to the content of the rocks!! This kind of rock can only form from mud flows, the kind that would be formed from a mega tsunami! Aka global flood!!

We wanted to explore the “Grand Canyon of the South” it did not disappoint. We drove around and had a blast stopping at so many beautiful places along the way. Finally stopping at Desoto Falls. It was just so beautiful! Loved the path that you could walk down beside it to get different pictures and see it from different levels. Could have stayed but we were headed to dinner! Great pictures!

Amazing place, short hike down but great wide area to swim. There’s not a lot of room on the bank for people so I’d pack light. Highly recommend bringing an inflatable float.
Jessica F — Google review
It's a nice, calm river. Not much parking is available, and the water is kind of muddy. It's more of a bring-your-dog type of river. I rented a Kayak for an hour, and it was peaceful, but there is not much more to this river.

Japanese restaurant
If you're on the hunt for an exceptional dining experience in Fort Payne, Toke Sushi and Thai Grill should be at the top of your list. This charming restaurant captures a serene Japanese atmosphere that instantly transports you to another world. The menu is a delightful fusion of flavors, featuring mouthwatering options like Spring Rolls, Fried Gyoza, Calamari Tempura, Yakitori Chicken, and Tuna Tataki.
Very incredibly tasty rolls. This is not the first time we come with my family and we really like everything.

If you are a vegan and/or like tofu, this is some of the best I have ever eaten. They have a dedicated vegan preparation policy just ask your server. I had the tofu vegetable medley with rice. The prices are so affordable it was shocking and probably won’t last much longer. The staff was friendly and attentive.

The food here is delicious. They have the best hibachi I've ever had. It's a good place to try new things. The hostess seemed very distant, but the server was really good. They had a good selection of music playing. I would definitely go back.

I don’t like to leave a negative review but things are worth mentioning. I ordered the Pad Thai and I’ve had Pad Thai in so many places but this one was extra fishy and also kinda flavorless at the same time. I kinda stated the fact that the noodles were also under cooked. The waitress took my plate and asked what I wanted instead. She then returned and said they would not swap it out. So unfortunately because I hate letting food go to waste and because I didn’t want to pay twice, I asked for some curry paste to try and help the flavor. I didn’t help much and then I had the runs for the next 24 hours.

If you enjoy a tempura or fried roll then you would love the Shrimp Tempura roll. If you like your tempura or fried roll loaded on top with extras and a sweet sauce, then the Toke roll will make your day. I thought the Cowboy roll was just ok, and the Spicy Tuna was good; however, both were overshadowed by the Toke roll!

Our family visited this place for quite a few meals when we first moved to the area 8 years ago and we really enjoyed the food. Then we ate here for the last time after experiencing the chicken they were serving was different and very nasty. So rewind 8 years later we decided to give it another try. My husband and son and daughter ordered the hibachi filet and chicken. I ordered the Thai curry chicken. We all agreed the meat was weird looking especially my curry chicken, and texturally off. The filet tasted like the way canned dog food smells. I picked out my chicken and only ate the vnot cooked broccoli and rice. Thank God the rice was edible because that's all anyone really ate. The spring rolls I also ordered were cold and mushy in the middle and hot on the outside, that tells me they have a Chef Mike (aka microwave) working for them in the back. I truly do not understand how anyone with any taste buds can rate this place at anymore than 1 star for their hibachi with chicken and filet. We did not try the sushi maybe it's better but I highly doubt it. WILL NOT BE BACK EVER AGAIN!!!!!!! The quality of their food is bottom of the trash can!!!! What a shame ☹️😱🥺

I come here often but I think I will start going to the other Japanese restaurant in town because this place has started charging for a sauce with a dinner or lunch entree! It should include 1 sauce per entree! I can't stand being nickled and dimed, especially when I have been coming here for years and given you plenty of business!

I've only been at this location a few times so far, but it has always been a positive experience. Both the inside and outside are clean. And I love the way the inside looks. The food is slightly more expensive than comparable restaurants in town, but the food does taste great. And the staff is friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going here again in the future.

Little River Canyon National Preserve is a stunning nature preserve located in northeast Alabama, spanning 15,288 acres across Cherokee and DeKalb Counties. Often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East, it encompasses the breathtaking Little River Canyon and the longest mountaintop river in the United States. The preserve is home to diverse wildlife and rare plants, making it a unique environment for nature enthusiasts.
Loved it. What a wonder place. It rivals many of the more popular parks and preserves in beauty and views, but is significantly less traveled making it an excellent experience.

Warning visitors center is closed on Monday’s and has very short hours on other days. The visitors center is located on a University campus, not adjacent to the scenic drive. Nice little scenic drive. However, my one big complaint is the scenic pull offs are very poorly maintained. Highly suggest a four wheel drive SUV or truck for this trip.

Bob and I recently went on a 3-day camping trip to Desoto State Park in Alabama and visited the Little River Canyon National Preserve atop Lookout Mountain in Alabama. Nearly the entire length of the Little River flows along the middle of Lookout Mountain from Georgia to Alabama. The National Canyon Preserve protects a 25-mile stretch of the river that runs through a deep canyon carved by the river over millions of years. A must do is The Little River Canyon Rim Parkway a scenic drive that runs the length of the canyon, beginning at the falls and ending at the Canyon Mouth Park, is a scenic drive with several overlooks. There are also some hiking trails that go to the bottom of the canyon. We begin our trip to the National Preserve at the Little River Falls. An ADA-accessible boardwalk overlooks the 45-foot-high falls and a hiking trail to the water. Visitors can swim in the Blue Hole, a beautiful pool of water above the falls, or, when the water is calm, in the deeper pool below the falls. The size of the parking lot near the falls suggests that this place gets very crowded on hot summer weekends. The overlook offers a beautiful view of the falls and the pool of water below, while the view from the Highway 35 bridge between DeKalb and Cherokee counties showcases the top of the falls and the beginning of the canyon. Before embarking on your drive along the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway you can use the restrooms here, as the next facilities will be at the other end of the parkway. I recommend this part to everyone. From the office to the scenic drives, to the waterfalls, to the hiking on the side of the mountain, to the incredible steps that take you down into the bottom of the gorge. There is something for everyone.

Absolutely beautiful waterfalls. Our girls trip was wonderful. Easy walk to the falls.

Absolutely stunning park. We went fishing, didn't catch anything but had a lovely time. There are plenty of paths to the river & picnic tables to sit at. There are air-conditioned flushable bathrooms and a playground for little kids.

Fazoli's

Restaurant
Fazoli's is a fast-food chain that offers a variety of Italian dishes like baked pastas, subs, pizza, and other casual options. It provides custom combos and has both dine-in and to-go menus. The restaurant recently opened on 4/26 and seems to be gaining popularity quickly. The service is efficient, with quick delivery of food after ordering. While not traditional in terms of service style, it still offers a pleasant experience for customers.
I had forgotten how good this place was. This lunch portion was $8+ .. it was delicious. The breadsticks were so fresh. It was all soo good. The restaurant was clean & the employees were friendly. I will definitely be back.
Angel J — Google review
The workers were very nice, and the place was clean. The only problem I had was that I ordered the loaded fettuccine alfredo and it didn't have any chicken in it and was lacking sauce. The food was delicious but that's my only complaint was the lack of chicken and sauce. It was my first time eating here.
Nathan J — Google review
Driest lasagna I've ever had, bread sticks are tiny and shriveled up. Definitely not worth the money. Service was dismissive and not friendly.
Nicole — Google review
First time my wife and I ever heard about fazolis or drive thru Italian food. The experience here was amazing. It was very odd but my wife and I both loved it. The to go menu is definitely better than the actual menu but boy was service fast. By the time we chose a table and filled our cups the food was already brought out. Although not traditional service there still was some and it was very pleasant. It only opened 4/26 and seems to be pretty popular. I 10/10 recommend going here. And I almost don't want one near home because I will eat way too much Alfredo.

Was blown away by this place! 10x better than Olive Garden for half the price. Atmosphere gave a fast food vibe. Bathrooms were clean. Can't wait to go back and take my husband.
Cesily B — Google review
I was surprised to see Fazoli's has finally stepped up to the plate for gluten allergy customers. The dish was delicious and filling but you could tell it was a fast food chain quality. It didn't matter because I was hungry and ate every last bite of it. The staff were friendly taking great care of me. Would I recommend this place? Yes
Jonathan D — Google review
Absolutely loved this restaurant! First time ever eating a a Fazolis, but definitely won't be the last, and certainly not the last at this one! They were quite busy when we arrived, however it did not take long for our food to be on the table. The staff were amazing, from ordering all the way to the end! prices weren't bad, food was excellent, great staff what more could you ask for?!? The bread sticks were e amazing, even more so when they are hot and fresh. Speghitti is one of my favorite foods, and I loved theirs with the meatballs, my wife had the wings and said they were amazing. Also had a peice of pizza, which was awesome as well! I definitely recommend giving them a try! I also met one of the owners, Dallas, and chatted with him a few minutes, very garcious, very friendly and down to earth guy, who by the way was out on the floor giving out bread sticks and helping deliver food! It won't let me give above 5 stars, but I'd easily give them if it were an option!
Michael L — Google review
Too expensive for what it is. The place stays clean. But the young man that I met behind the counter was very disparaging towards a Hispanic patron. Also you can get better flavor from the hamburger helper style chicken alfredo.

Nestled near the stunning Little River Canyon, Rim of the Canyon Cafe & Grocery is a delightful gem that perfectly combines local charm with delicious dining. This cozy spot may be compact, but it offers a warm atmosphere and friendly service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast or lunch after exploring the park, you'll find an array of tasty options to satisfy your cravings.
Stopped in for a country ham biscuit with egg and a slice of onion. AMAZING! Soft and fluffy biscuits and hot coffee. Everyone was extremely friendly. Connected to a gas station for a one stop shop. Lots of odd and end things in case you may need. They also sell local meats from a farm nearby.

After a nice drive through the state park, we stopped at the Rim of the Canyon Cafe & Grocery for a bite to eat. They were busy and hustling. Our lunch arrived in about 15 minutes and was good. Hubby had a burger and tots and I had a blt and potato wedges. Both meals were very good!! We will stop again on our next ride.

Quaint, Southern hospitality. Delicious home style food. We had Country fried steak, green beans, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and corn nuggets. All of which were excellent.
Christopher M — Google review
So glad we decided to stop in and grab some breakfast after seeing the falls. When it’s 3 grannies in the kitchen you know the food is going to be amazing. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and the food was great. The baloney is thick and perfect on a breakfast sandwich.
M A — Google review
We stopped by here for breakfast on our way back home after finding it in Google and seeing all the reviews, and it didn't disappoint! The establishment was clean and very compact. Even though there wasn't a lot of seating available, it's not a 5 star restaurant, it's a nice diner in a gas station, so seats will be limited. The convenience store side offered a little bit of everything that you may need. Now on to the food side! There are very few people working, so it's a slight wait but nothing too bad. My wife ordered French toast, eggs, grits and bacon and I ordered the breakfast platter with 2 eggs, grits, biscuit, sausage and a side of gravy. My wife's French toast and other food items were delicious as was mine! But really set off our breakfast was the bacon and sausage, it was from a grocery store. I could taste the salt and smoke in the bacon and the sausage was amazing! Come to find out the meat supplied to the restaurant comes from the owner's farm and it was some of the finest sausage and bacon I've ever had! We will definitely stop here the next time we're in the area and get one of their burgers! Definitely worth a stop to eat some of this food!
Clay E — Google review
We ordered here and sat down and waited 30 min. They announced our exact order was ready for pickup. We had ordered to eat in and it was in bags to go, but we thought it was just a mistake. Then when we bit into the breakfast burrito it had bacon instead of sausage. They had also given us a chicken sandwich that we didn't order. We told them that we had ordered to eat in and that the burrito was supposed to have sausage and they said we had picked up the wrong order at the counter. The only options they gave us were to eat and pay for the order we picked up, or take BOTH orders and pay for both. Unbelievable. This is definitely not the kind of service we are accustomed to and we will never come back. The food was bland.

Day 3

East side of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the east side side of town. Start the day off with Little River Canyon Falls Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Alabama Walking Trail Park. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Little River Canyon Falls Park

4.9
(1963)
Park
Little River Canyon Falls Park is a breathtaking gem nestled in Alabama, perfect for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. This park boasts stunning waterfalls that cascade beautifully, especially after rainfall, creating an impressive sight. Visitors can enjoy scenic drives through the canyon, which offer numerous pull-offs to soak in the magnificent views and explore various activities like hiking and walking trails. The accessibility of the boardwalk makes it easy for everyone to appreciate the beauty of the falls up close.
This is one of the underrated National Park Sites due to a somewhat remote location. Be alert on the National Park sign if you want to take pictures as we missed it on the way to the visitor center. You visit the Little River Falls first either by driving or hiking. We drove to a big parking lot. The views to the falls were spectacular. Then you do a scenic drive to overlooks that snakes along the canyon. Be careful follow your instincts and stay on highway 176 it’s very easy to get lost on one of the county roads as we did. There’s small parking on the overlooks. The Mushroom rock is interesting. The so called Grace’s Falls suppose to be the highest in Alabama is seasonal and depends on the rain. It was a trickle when we visited. This one is also very easy to miss be on alert and look for the posted sign.” There’s no fee except if you visit the mouth of the river it’s $15.00 but it’s free if you have the annual pass.

Beautiful place rocks are a little slippery, but I’ve never had a bad experience yet. Will definitely be going back many times and many years to come.. also great for people that like hikes and learning about history as it is a historical marker
Quanisha D — Google review
Visited this along with DeSoto today, both are great places to visit! Canyon lets you walk to the falls, those going to the top flat rocks must bypass the boardwalk railings. I checked out the rocky trail nearby that leads to a swimming and fishing area at the bottom of several stone steps, my kind of trail with roots, rocks, and flat boulders, slightly moderate at most. There are several awesome overlooks along the paved scenic road, plus mushroom rock in between the car lanes is an interesting surprise. Great day trip that would make a weekend trip as well!
Shara M — Google review
We wanted to explore the “Grand Canyon of the South” it did not disappoint. We drove around and had a blast stopping at so many beautiful places along the way. Finally stopping at Desoto Falls. But this one was a gem, put our feet in the water and it was just gorgeous. Could have stayed longer but we wanted to see so much more! Great pictures!
Cindie D — Google review
It is about an hour and half to two hours from Chattanooga depending on if you take the interstate or back roads. Me and my dog went on Saturday, there is a trail you can take it will lead to a swimming area at the bottom. Be careful the last bit to get to the water is very steep and on the way back up it is strenuous. Wear good shoes there are many rocks on the trail. There is also a overlook to see the waterfall, super beautiful. Also it's very busy during the summer time.
Kirstin J — Google review
The most fun you can have for free. Big parking lot and two seater no flush toilets. The waterfall is totally serene and it's said you can see a rainbow 🌈 around noon when it's misting. There are a few harrowing trails that can be hiked and an awesome overlook aside from the main lookout. RV and dog friendly 🐕
Kenneth ( — Google review
Beautiful area to view falls. There is a paved path that a wheelchair could go down, or you can use the stairs to the main viewing area. There is a paved walkway to view the falls and a short path over to a better view. The area is relatively shady, and there is plenty of parking. You can also take a short trail down to the river and folks played in the water above the falls (Note-there is some distance to the falls from this area, but the are dangerous falls and you should use caution-the rangers do not recommend playing here bit lots of people seem to enjoy this area). You can get another view from the bridge of the Falls by walking on the sidewalk along the main road from the bridge.

Scenic spot
Little River Falls Overlook offers a stunning view of the river rapids and lush forests from an elevated boardwalk, providing a bird's eye perspective. The area features picnic tables for visitors to enjoy a leisurely meal amidst the natural beauty. Located in northeast Alabama near Ft. Payne on Lookout Mountain, the scenic drive along Little River Canyon Parkway (Rt.
I visited in April 2024. It was a good time to see the river with a very active flow and early spring colors. This overlook is definitely worth stopping for a look. Very accessible from the parking area.

Start at the Little River Canyon Center, and you'll save yourself some time. 4322 Little River Trail #100 is the address of the center. We started our tour south of the park and saw a bunch of stuff we could've skipped. I thought the road next to the river would give us great views, but the river was hidden by bushes and young trees.

We absolutely loved the views and so close to the road for everyone to enjoy!

This fall is so beautiful! Although my daughter and I were unable to figure out how others were able to walk on the top of the waterfall, we adored it from afar. Science Tip: When taking pictures from afar, if you have a view finder that you are able to look through and have a phone with a camera on it, try this! Place your camera on one (hole on either side) of the view finder. If you hold it just right, you are able to capture a picture of the object up closer! This also works with telescopes, microscopes, etc. See my pictures for the difference! (Only the first few starting from the Scenic Waterfall are with the view finder.) From the beginning of this road is a 12 mile drive of stopping areas for scenic views. There are hiking areas as well. I would highly recommend an SUV or truck. A vehicle that sits higher off the ground in order to park along the 12 mile road. Otherwise, your vehicle will bottom out! (You are in the mountains ⛰️ !)

It's such a very beautiful place. The waterfall is incredible as well at the rock formations and nature itself. It can get a little crowded, especially in the summer, when a lot of people go here to swim. Make sure you bring plenty of water and stay hydrated!

We happened to pick a great sunshiny/very clear day to take a little trip over to northeast Alabama and view this incredible river canyon and waterfalls. A lot of my posts photos depend on good weather conditions and sometimes its hit or miss depending on what time of day I leave to drive to these destinations alone with cloud/sunny wind speeds. This time it was perfect! Enjoy!

Restaurant
If you're a fan of Italian cuisine, Fontana's Restaurant is an absolute must-visit when in Fort Payne. This charming eatery specializes in crafting mouthwatering Italian dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients that truly elevate the dining experience. The ambiance transports you straight to Italy, making every meal feel special. Even if you're just passing through town after a long day of hiking, stopping by Fontana's for dinner is a decision you won't regret.
What a great little find!!! My hubby and I were visiting Fort Payne and looking for a local place to eat. I had the pecan crusted salmon with green beans and a slice of their house toasted bread. My hubby had the grilled chicken Alfredo with toasted bread. My salmon was crispy on the outside and tender and flavorful. Salmon is often dry, if not cooked correctly, and this was far from it. The garlicky green beans were delicious as well. The hubby’s meal was generously covered in Alfredo with lots of grilled chicken. If we visit Fort Payne again, we will definitely return to Fontana’s.
Victoria R — Google review
We found this place through the Maps app, fairly high rating, as we were driving in the Little River Canyon area. It's a tiny little bistro on a corner of the "downtown" area offering a small selection of Italian and Greek dishes and a handful of sandwiches along with several dessets. Doesn't look like much from the outside and only offers about a dozen tables inside, but don't be fooled, the food is pretty delicious. We had the cheese planks appetizer, excellent, lightly fried, perfectly melted and panko breaded mozzarella sticks. We also each chose an Italian dinner entree that came with Caesar side salad - delicious dressing and lightly crisp croutons; and a piece of grilled Italian bread that managed to be both perfectly crispy outside and hot, soft center on a positive slab of buttery goodness . Very tasty. I finished it off with the molten lava cake which was a bit too much for me, definitely enough to share. Chocolate lava cake with a magic-shell-chocolate-covered scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate-syrup-drizzled whip cream and a cherry. (I would suggest to the management that they heat the cake a little longer though, while still good, the lava center was not fully melted and was more the consistency of very thick pudding or custard and did not run at all, I actually had to kind of dig for the "lava center" which meant the cake was kind of dry since the ice cream was also enrobed so didn't melt into the cake either.) The bathroom is a little bit of a creepy walk. Through a dark door under a red exit sign, down a dim hallway that turns a blind corner to more, but better lit, hallway where the desperately-in-need-of-a-remodel bathroom lurks at the very end left, that while it did boast a horribly peeling toilet seat and the floor was a hot chipped mess, was at least pretty clean and very well stocked. Overall, would definitely visit again. The food was worth it, it was pretty clean though a bit age-worn around the edges, the prices are in line with a quaint Italian restaurant, which it definitely nails with the hand painted walls of winter trees against a mountain backdrop (very lovely), softly lit with string LED's and tables separated by folding slatted doors to offer the illusion of partial seclusion from other diners. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

The service was incredible. The food is such a delight. Their menu is loaded with tons of Greco-Italian food. They have Italian meatballs with a Greco spin to them which is incredible. My wife and I always go here on date nights because it's all so good. I got the Cowboy calzone. And Italian meatballs with honey barbecue appetizer. The wife got spinach artichoke dip appetizer and the spanakopita dinner. We shared the molten lava cake at the end. So so good.

This was the cutest restaurant with exceptional food. We loved everything!! Only thing that bothered me was the price on the spinach dip and chips ... they were awesome but definitely not enough for the price. We will definitely go back again!!

We are not local but decided to give Fontana’s a try since we were in town and ready for dinner after a strenuous hike. Great decision! Although the wait time can be long, you are advised on the menu and our waitress made sure we were aware. It was worth the wait! I also appreciated how they brought us both our hot and fresh food at the same time even though mine was probably done sooner. They are incredibly under-staffed due to the pandemic but provided excellent service in a timely manner. We were seated in an area out of sight of our waitress but she did not forget us. The cheese in my dish was amazing and probably some of the best I’ve had. I would highly suggest the fried Oreos as dessert! I ordered mine to-go and I was very pleasantly surprised. I’ve never had it, but now it’s a favorite and I’ll definitely get more next time we are in town. Do keep in mind this is a very old building and does smell like one. Everything was very clean and each table was thoroughly cleaned. Overall a very nice experience! We definitely recommend it and look forward to visiting again.

Little River RV Park & Campground offers a genuine camping experience in a great location. While it may not have all the amenities of a KOA, it provides friendly service and spacious spots for big rigs. The park is centrally located near downtown and various dining, shopping, and adventure options. The cleanliness of the park is exceptional, complementing the beautiful surroundings. Guests appreciate the availability of firewood and ice on-site as well as the proximity to Little River Falls and DeSoto Falls.
Great camp ground with showers and bathrooms. Love the camp ground vibe. Shout out to Mark for answering the phone and getting us the RV spot, very nice guy. And Mike for being a helpful local.

Beautiful place in Alabama. The campground is very well kept. Clean bath house/restrooms. Staff is extremely friendly. Nice small req center for kids. Small little pond to get a hook wet. Nothing to brag about on the amount of fish or size of pond. All in all I definitely recommend.

It looks like the campground is under new ownership. They are doing a great job of making improvements. As with most older campgrounds, there are many permanent campers. Some very run down, cluttered sites. The first group of sites closest to the office appear to be new. The landscaping is beautiful. This is the first campground I've been at with extremely good wifi. I plan to return and support the new owners. Their biggest challenge will be to clean up or remove some rvs.

I chose Little River Campground for a quick 2 night stay near DeSoto and Little River Canyon. Booking with them was much easier last-minute than trying to book with DeSoto State Park. The campground manager was very prompt and helpful with my reservation and kindly suggested a site near the entrance. It was a great size for my camper, partially shaded (which was perfect), and had plenty of space. I was very pleased with the actual campsite. The facilities were also nice, and the distance to Little River Canyon was very close. That said, as a solo female camper, I did not always feel comfortable. This campground has recently been purchased by a new owner, and while improvements are being made, there are still concerns. It appears that some individuals live here full-time, and there aren’t many regulations regarding appearances. Most long-term residents kept to themselves, but one was overly persistent in conversation, asking questions that made me feel uneasy even after I gave hints that I wanted to be left alone. While there were no direct threats, the atmosphere left my safety feeling questionable. I would not have felt comfortable there with my children. If you’re looking for a long-term spot, this may be a fine choice. But if you’re traveling through, vacationing, or especially if you’re a solo female camper, you may feel more at ease at DeSoto or another state park. From a business perspective, it feels as though the new owner is trying to weave together two different models—long-term residency and short-term vacation camping. Perhaps he is transitioning, or perhaps trying to merge both. I'm sure this will only improve over time as it appears the new owner and management are attempting to turn this campground into a positive experience.

This was a very chill campground. We stayed 4 nights in a tent, and it was amazing. The view was beautiful. The rest of the guests were calm and chill. We'll be using it again.

The current management began ownership in November 2024. They have be adding and renovating their amenities since. We are an RV group that traveled there with 9 rigs. Mark and Samir were very helpful and worked with us to make our stay enjoyable. When we were about to leave they asked for suggestions to make the park a better destination. Note: this is an RV campground, not a hotel. Little River Canyon national Preserve is 2 miles away. It is close to eclectic Mentone and Fort Payne.

The park features fitness stations, landscaped walking trails, a Splash Pad with water jets, and a paved walking trail. It is well-maintained and gated to ensure safety. Additionally, the park boasts beautiful views of the mountains and provides free exercise stations along its walking trail.
Nice clean park with a medium sized modern playground. Also a splash pad.

I just stopped in to eat my food. Sat in my car. Walking trail park is a good place though. Great for gatherings, picnics, kids to play, etc...

Cute, mostly clean, and convenient. There are plenty of walking trails that are very easy and well maintained. There is a splash pad that is pretty small In comparison but, it's great for toddlers and a pretty sweet little playground. Restrooms are why I say mostly clean. Seems like it would be pretty dog friendly, there is a small picnic area with three tables along with a pretty fair amount of benches.

AL Walking Trail park was a fun stop along my trip west over to Scottsboro on a Saturday afternoon. The park is kept up nicely, the feel is safe, nothing sketchy going on that I could detect and plenty of open space with paved walkways. The kids had a large play area and the adults seemed content to socialize and enjoy a BBQ picnic beneath a large sheltered area. Everyone was having a good time. There was a birthday party going on with tons of families and kids having a great time. Being a road warrior and observer, I really just needed to get out of the car (it was probably a 150 mile trip I was on) to get my blood flowing again after being behind the wheel so long. This park is conveniently located right along the highway and provides ample, free parking and clean bathrooms. Think, "Rest Area - with enhanced amenities." There are multiple food options nearby.

Roadside Que is a popular eatery located on Gault Ave N Suite A, Fort Payne, AL. Renowned for its delectable American cuisine, the restaurant offers a delightful array of dishes that are filled with an exquisite blend of sweet flavors and exceptional taste. Customers rave about the quality of food here, considering it among the finest in Fort Payne. With an extensive menu boasting numerous options, Roadside Que is highly recommended to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience regardless of their location.
Roadside Que is a must-stop when in Fort Payne. The young man up front, Alex was super knowledgeable about the menu and specials, and answered all of our questions before we could ask them. My husband ordered the rib lunch, and they were fall-off-the-bone tender and perfectly seasoned. He got a side of coleslaw that was excellent as well. It had a little kick to it that he loved. I had the dinner plate with pork, Brussel sprouts, and German potato salad. The pork was fantastic, and didn't even need sauce (although it was awesome too). The Brussels and potato salad were perfect. The owner greeted us, then came back around to chat a minute. He was super nice and welcoming, then gave us some tips on how to spend the rest of our day. We took his advice and drove down the Canyon Rim Parkway. It was breathtaking. We had a great day to follow our excellent lunch. 10/10 highly recommend!!

8.5/10 for the barbeque, sauces, and sides. Totally worth checking out. Roadside prides itself on delivering BBQ that's full of flavor, not greasy, and ethically sourced. The brisket, pulled pork, and sides were definitely the cream of the crop. All were tender, full of flavor, and well seasoned. The Ribs were very good with a rich and crisp seasoned bark, however the meat was not falling off the bone. This is a compromise made in order to deliver something that's not dripping in grease, so this comes down to preference. Either way everything here is sure to satisfy, and you can't go wrong with the food, people or atmosphere. Roadside can easily establish themselves as a staple of Fort Payne.

Delicious! Mac and Cheese was so good. The chicken sandwich, brisket, and shrimp poboy were all awesome! And this momma REALLY appreciated the wine on tap! The kids and my husband also enjoyed the board games!!

Was in the area for a weekend getaway and had a craving for BBQ and foind this llace through Google and was excited to see German Potato Salad on the menu. We took a chance and it was absolutely delicious. The pork was excellently smoked and I loved the choice of sauces (I opted for tangy vinegar and Alabama white sauce). The mac n cheese was so creamy and delicious. But, the star of the show was the German potato salad with it's perfectly tangy dressing and warm potatoes and onions. I also enjoyed the craft beer recommended by the owner that perfectly complimented the meal. If I am ever back in the area, this will definitely be my first stop!

Don’t judge the place when you first walk in. Not to criticize the surroundings, they are clean and well kept, but the food is simply much higher class and quality than what you expect from a place with a roll of paper towels on the table. The chicken sandwich was absolutely the best chicken sandwich I had ever tasted. So good in fact that we asked for, and bought, a pint of a white sauce that was on it. The BBQ nachos, that we tried on a whim, will now be the benchmark that all other nachos are measured against.

THE BEST BRISKET IN ALABAMA! There aren't many places that have better brisket than pulled pork, but this is one of them. Incredible flavor and tenderness. Be prepared for non-traditional sides, like Warm German Potato Salad and Brussel Sprout Hash. Did I mention how good the brisket is?

We were on our way home from the mountains and decided to stop for dinner but wanted something local. Trust me when I say this is so worth the stop off the interstate for really good food. The ski theme I like, just not a lot of table options, very small dining area. There is a bar which was nice. We were greeted by one of the owners, and he did a great job informing us about the menu and options available (meat wise). My husband ordered the brisket, mac n cheese, and the beans. I ordered the chicken, the warm potato salad, and I was intrigued with the Brussels sprout hash so I wanted to try that too. The brisket was excellent! It had a great smoky flavor, and not too fatty, our preference is lean brisket. The red sauce with the brisket had a slight bit of heat to it, just enough, and was very tasty. Definitely not a bottled sauce. The beans were really good also, unlike a traditional baked bean at a bbq joint. We were informed when we ordered that the Mac n cheese had a homemade sauce and you could definitely tell it was! So flavorful and the type noodle used holds all that flavor in. The warm potato salad may not “look” visually appealing, but again, trust me when I say it was soooo good. The chicken also had a great smoked flavor, and the white sauce that accompanied it was a bit different than any I’ve had, but very tasty. The Brussel hash was good, but probably the thing I enjoyed the least, if I had to say. All in all, well worth the stop and would love to stop here again whenever we may be passing through. The outside does not give justice to the amazing food being served inside!

We stopped by for lunch while on vacation.his uncle greeted us and was very friendly... he told us, in detail, all about the menu. My hubby had the ribs. They were so good they did not even need sauce. I had the brisquet salad, very delicious, & healthy salad.. High quality. The Brussels sprouts hash.. delicious. The green Chile also very good. ( spicy) The baked beans had 3 kinds of beans., onion, not too sweet. He has made his own creations...so tasty & unique. Everything we had was delicious, highly recommend.!!

Very nice and helpful staff. My boyfriend can't eat onions, so they made us some amazing guacamole to order. It was wonderful with tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro. I had the fajita salad. It was full of chicken. He had the chicken tacos. Everything was good. Also loved the salsa, especially what they brought him for his tacos, it was hot! An extra plus was that they served food after 9:00. Disappointed to find not many places in Fort Payne did.

Great food, clean restaurant, friendly service. Have been a couple times now and it's always good.

Don’t know how this place has 4.4 stars. Do not recommend the carne asada street tacos. The steak was burnt tid bits with too much onion and cilantro. The rice with it was way over cooked. Then they charge a surcharge of 3.75 % of your tab to use a credit card. The water I ordered had a soap aftertaste and the margarita I had was way too sweet. Not a good experience at all.

We love the happy hour special. The food is always good. Staff always willing to go the extra mile: friendly, welcoming, adaptable. Food always comes out fast. Community strong in here we've met other customers and had lively conversations many times!

Good food. We needed a off night out and this worked very well. Give it try if you need a break from the normal family night out. Still a decent family place to eat as well. The service here has went downhill bad. It was no fun watching my wife finish her food before mine arrived.
