National park
Nature & Parks
Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a vast park known for its stunning mountain and ocean views, particularly along the famous Cabot Trail. The park offers various activities and sightseeing opportunities, including the chance to enjoy a lobster feast at La Bloc beach while taking in picturesque vistas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Driving through the park on the Cabot Trail is considered one of the world's top road trips, offering panoramic views between Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay.
This national park will remain in my memory for a long time. The ocean views, mountains, and forest landscapes here are simply unforgettable. I visited in the summer and booked a cabin—staying and camping here was definitely a wise choice. The scenery is captivating enough to enjoy for two to three days without feeling bored. The most efficient way to explore is by driving along the NS-30, which is also called Cabot Trail, stopping at spots you find interesting to take in the views. If your campsite is on the west side of the park, the town of Cheticamp has all the facilities you might need, including car washes, gas stations, and laundry services.

So much to do in this park. It's just beautiful. Definitely give yourself a few days to travel around if you have the time, if not go back a few times if you are able to actually enjoy everything the park has to offer. There are many many hiking and walking trails, at all different levels of difficulty. So there is something for everyone. The Skyline trail was one of the most beautiful views that takes a little time to walk to. There are many different fresh water and salt water beaches. Lots of wildlife, so be mindful on the road. I've seen far too many cars just speeding through. One of my favorite national parks in Nova Scotia. Enjoy and leave nothing but foot prints and take nothing but pictures 😊
KA B — Google review
We did the Cabot trail through this park and it was the most AMAZING experience! I'd do it again and again if it wasn't so long! Definitely give yourself a couple days ( or more) to REALLY enjoy the trail (if that's what you're doing). The road through the park is hilly and the mountain views as well as ocean views are stunning. Hopefully you don't visit on a foggy day like we did! Enjoy
Megan B — Google review
Very beautiful park, it is a must when you visit Nova Scotia. The roads are well maintained and the scenery is gorgeous. Don’t just drive through the park though, explore the trails like the skyline trail and don’t hesitate to also go to meat cove, which is very underrated as a destination I believe!
Jean-Francois — Google review
Such an amazing park! The hiking trails are gorgeous and you can find hikes for all levels of experience. The Coastal Trail is stunning with its views of the cliffs and ocean. There is wildlife to consider so it's best to hike in the daytime which also helps with the mosquitos. Much of the park and Cape Breton Island is a dark sky paradise for anyone who would like to see the stars and Milky Way.
David N — Google review
I visited here last summer, based on my friend’s advice, and I have to say I will advise all of you guys to come. This is an extremely beautiful place, especially in summer time. Nova Scotia is famous for its special seaside view, and here is the best place to feel. Imagine the rocky coast along the ocean, high mountains stand in water, curve highway run in between valleys, all of them can be found right here.
Hanhua G — Google review
Gorgeous national park with some of the best coastal views I've ever seen. Wildlife such as moose, seals, and gulls are plentiful and the famous Skyline Trail is one of the most breathtaking hikes I've ever completed.
Noah D — Google review
It’s a good scene route. I did clockwise drive & enjoyed it. Definitely worth the drive. Lots of hiking options and trails. Good for someone who like hiking and trails, definitely need few days to explore & bring mosquitoes repellent and find accommodation near by park. Make sure your Gas tank is full, sometime cape Breton is out of gas. Don’t forget your sun glasses, stay hydrated & enjoy the ride

Franey Trailhead

4.8
(172)
Hiking area
Franey Trailhead is a popular hiking spot located on the east side of the Cabot Trail near Ingonish Beach. The trail offers a challenging loop with spectacular views and the opportunity to meet other hikers along the way. While not an easy hike, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Middle Head trail, the Atlantic Ocean, and stunning mountains.
Franey Trailhead on the Cabot Trail is a rewarding hike for those up for a challenge! I went in the fall, and the colorful leaves were absolutely beautiful, adding so much to the experience. The trail is steep and can be tough at times, but every step is worthwhile, especially with the autumn scenery. I got caught in a light drizzle on the way up, but it added to the adventure—plus, I was greeted by a rainbow when I reached the top! The panoramic view of the Atlantic coastline, forests, and rolling hills is breathtaking. Highly recommend this trail, especially in the fall, for a memorable adventure on the Cabot Trail!
Kansas D — Google review
Warning: due to construction work, the trail is currently 12.8 km long, not 7.4 km as indicated on Parks Canada's website. The trail is wide and mostly in the woods. The view at the top is magnificient.
Vincent J — Google review
Ran the Franey Trail loop on Labor Day. Took the trail to the left of the parking area. The distance to the top this way was shorter, but the climb steeper and the trail surface more challenging. The long side mostly followed a gravel road back to the parking area. Other than two people at the top by the overlook, didn’t see a single soul the entire time. Enjoyed the solitude and amazing views!!
Christopher B — Google review
Beautiful trail that leads to a phenomenal look out. The trail itself is not technically difficult but the climb is challenging- 468 metres elevation. Warning - because of closed parts of the trail the out and back is actually almost 13 kms. Well worth the view at the end.
Leslie I — Google review
The Franey Trail in Ingonish offers a challenging yet rewarding hike, though I encountered a bit of a setback on my visit. Unfortunately, the trail loop was closed from one side, so I had to take a longer route than planned. Despite this, the hike was absolutely worth the extra time and effort. The highlight of the trail is undoubtedly the stunning view from the top, especially overlooking MacDougall’s Lake. The sight of the calm, blue waters nestled amidst the vast forest is breathtaking. If you’re up for a bit of an adventure and don’t mind a longer route, this trail still delivers an incredible experience. Just be prepared for the extra trek if closures are in place!
Amritpal S — Google review
Beautiful hike! Moderate difficulty, some steep uphill climbs but the trail is well marked and easy to follow. Beautiful views at the top (make sure to check out both lookout spots!)
Gabby H — Google review
There may be alot more challenging trails in cape breton, but I have not been to those yet and among the trails that I have done, without a doubt this was the toughest. I am not in best physical shape but it was tough. It is quite inclined on the way up (you can take a bit longer and a bit easier route, which we took on the way down). Trail is not prepared and you would need good shoes and having a hiking stick would certainly help. It is pretty much through the wood and there are not much views along the way till you reach top. The view from the top is worth the effort as shown by the pictures, however if you are not much into hiking, you can see almost similar view from the gondola in Ingonish. Franey will take you much higher though. Make sure to have water and something to eat. I met a family of 6 who did the trail in 2 hours 10 minutes, but took me 5 hours including an hour on top to enjoy the views. I have attached some pictures but these do not do justice to the trail or the views from the top. These will give you some idea though. Just remember the pictures are not in particular order. Regardless, the joy of sitting on the red chair and marvel the views is priceless. Do not forget to check the second viewing point on top to view the valley at the back. I believe the hike be even more beautiful when the leave will change soon. Happy hiking and good luck
Shahzada N — Google review
What a trail! To get to the top, you’ll be climbing upwards a lot. Some sections even have well maintained stairs that help a bit but those sections tend to get pretty steep. We had to stop pretty frequently to catch our breaths, but luckily we only saw one group on the way there who just quit at the first viewpoint area. Once you’re at the top, you’ll get a gorgeous view of the area below with the signature red chair of the Canada national parks. Don’t miss the second viewpoint at the top where you’ll feel like you’re higher than the clouds. Dress comfortably and wear shoes with a good grip. If your fitness can handle it, I highly recommend checking out this trail. You can also go counter clockwise where it is a bit longer to get to the top but it’s not as steep as going clockwise. There is plenty of parking.

Ski resort
Ski Cape Smokey is a popular destination in Ingonish Beach, offering the highest ski mountain in Nova Scotia with an elevation of around 1050 feet. The site boasts 16 alpine runs, the longest being approximately 2.4 km, and receives an average annual snowfall of 381 cm. Additionally, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the Cape Smokey Lookout along the Cabot Trail.
We took the Gondola up to the top which had spectacular views! Then we were able to play the disc golf they had at the top. After that we went to the view point for more amazing sites to see from the top of the mountain. Finally we took the 2km hike to go kayaking. It wasn’t busy at all, everyone was super friendly. Overalll would recommend this to everyone driving by. We spent about 4 hours up there but you could easily spend double up there.

It was an amazing ride, offering a breathtaking view of Cape Breton’s beauty. On one side, the vibrant colors of fall painted the landscape, and on the other, the vast ocean stretched endlessly—oh my God, what a splendid sight! It was truly an unforgettable experience. The gondolas move slowly, so even those who are afraid of heights have nothing to worry about—just hop in, relax, and enjoy the ride.
AISWARYA S — Google review
The Trails were closed (for fire prevention) at 4pm on Tuesday Aug 5 while we were at the Top of Cape Smokey. So our hike was cut way short. Im sorry I can't speak to the trails on top of the mountain. However the view from the top of the Gondola was worth the price of admission.
The F — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking experience! The gondola ride over the hill offered stunning panoramic views of the fall colours — vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows everywhere. It was peaceful, relaxing, and the perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the season. Highly recommend taking the ride during peak foliage — it’s magical! 🍁🍂.
Jude A — Google review
Was hesitant at first with price for 4 kids. Kids 5 and under are free. You can ride multiple times until 6pm with wristband. Went from meh, maybe we shouldn't do this to the kids not wanting to leave. Great little stop on the Calbot Trail. Bar at top with mini putt and photo ops. Man up top at the bar was pleasant to chat with. Last but not least, the free cookies at the bottom. Great experience all around.
Robyn G — Google review
Very beautiful view! Nice little hike out to the lake at the top. The Cafe there is very quaint (lodge-style), Unfortunately, it was closed on Monday when we got there but restrooms were still open. Would love to go back there for a meal! Very friendly staff! Lots of little things to do at the top- hike, mini golf, Frisbee golf in the woods, kayak at the lake. Very nice!
Mama T — Google review
It was truly one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve ever had. The gondola ride cost approximately $47 per person, and what makes it even better is that you can ride it as many times as you like without paying extra—just one ticket gives you unlimited access! I had an amazing time with my hubby; we soaked in the breathtaking views from the top and created unforgettable memories together. For those concerned about washroom access, there’s a convenient restaurant at the top of the stairs that you can use. I’m giving this experience 4 stars only because the ticket price felt a bit steep—but overall, it was absolutely worth it.
Simranjit K — Google review
The food is decent, but understaffed. Have to wait 45 minutes for my food, end up putting in take out box to eat on the bus. The view from surrounding area for the Fall foliage is good. Right next to the gondola lift for Winter skiing.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park - Ingonish Beach Campground

Campground
Located just outside Ingonish Beach village, Ingonish Beach Campground in Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a family-friendly spot offering easy access to supervised ocean and freshwater beaches. The campground features oTENTiks, serviced sites, a tennis court, soccer field, and playground. Visitors can explore the Jack Pine Trail which leads through the forest and along the stunning coastline towards Black Brook Cove Beach.
Nice beach, 1km walk distance. CAMPING: The camping is "ok", nothing special or out of the ordinary. The camping sites are in an opened area. Some sites don't have much trees or intimacy. Other sites offer more intimacy and have trees. Bathroom were clean, and there are shared areas/shelter to eat when it's raining. BEACH : I enjoyed because of the beach. The beach is awesome and the view is great. The installations at the beach (bathroom, showers, sinks, etc.) are really clean.
Charles-Olivier B — Google review
Campground sucked. Basically an open field you pay money to camp at with a load of people. Lucky enough to have one side facing the woods. Nobody was at the gate even though I was told they would be till evening. Very hard to find your site during dusk. Noisy and noise was not enforced at all. People chopping wood late at night and just an overly crappy experience. Would highly recommend something else.
EAGLE E — Google review
This was quite honestly the worst campground I’ve ever been to. It’s literally an open field with hundreds of tents and vans packed in like sardines. theres 1 shower for everyone and the bathrooms have no soap. They boast having a « park » for kids but its 2 swings and a seesaw. Its pathetic. Only reason I didn’t give zero stars is because the beach (8 mins hike) is absolutely breathtaking. Go for beach, but camp elsewhere.
Gabrielle L — Google review
National Parks Canada campsites in Cheticamp and Ingonish in the oTentiks, a bit of fancy camping. Clean tidy and well maintained campsites in stunning locations with friendly helpful staff.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Warren Lake Trailhead offers a variety of activities for the whole family, including a beach area perfect for splashing in the shallows during the warm summer months. While there are no lifeguards on duty, visitors can enjoy picnicking and access to pit privies. Hiking trails are also available, but it's important to be prepared for wildlife encounters by bringing bear spray or noise-making devices.
I recently walked the Warren Lake Trailhead alone, and it was an incredible experience that brought me right back to the scenic trails of Kyoto, Japan. The trail is serene, peaceful, and offers an escape into nature that feels both grounding and rejuvenating. The walk itself took around 1.2 hours, and the path was easy to follow, with gentle inclines and clear markers. The lush forest lining the trail, combined with the stillness of the lake, created a calming atmosphere, reminiscent of Japan’s quiet trails around lakes and shrines. It’s ideal for a solo hike if you’re looking for introspection or simply to enjoy nature without too many distractions. Overall, Warren Lake is a beautiful trail for those who appreciate the simplicity and serenity of a forest walk, and it holds a charm that stays with you long after the hike is over. Highly recommend it to anyone traveling through Cabot Trail!
Sheika F — Google review
It is a beautiful lake. And a really nice spot to swim. The beach area is nice aswell. The trail is good just be careful there is lots of poison ivy. The water was very warm, it is a nice spot to spend a day. It was beautiful when we were there. Beautiful day, there's sand in some parts but mostly it is a rocky lake. It was not hard to get from off the main road. The dirt road there was not bad at all either. The was quite a few people there when we were there too. Just a good way to spend a nice summer day. We will definitely be back. I recommend this lake.
KA B — Google review
My favourite spot on earth. I try to make it each fall. It’s so calm, peaceful and quiet. You can hike around the lake about 5km. Easy and doable for all fitness levels. The beach is small but so clean and clear with sand. Bathrooms on site that are cleaned daily.
Vicky F — Google review
about 5km around the lake, easy walk. only did a short hike because it is raining, still quite beautiful and calming. There is a nice beach and rest rooms nearby.
Cheryl C — Google review
We loved it. We did a short hike along the lakeshore. The lake itself was beautiful in a natural untouched sort of way.
David C — Google review
For things that might matter to other: Bathrooms are at the parking area of the loop. Loop has a lot of roots, wet areas, and wood bridges. Not stroller friendly. The Loop goes around the entire lake and through some wooded areas. There is a swinging bridge crossing. My opinion: fun Loop, about 5km. I ran part and walked part. The beach looked like a great spot to relax. It was beautiful 😍
Olszko F — Google review
Make sure to bring bear spray, a horn or device making loud noises when hiking. This area is wild and there’s lots of wildlife (even though you may not see or hear them). This park has a beautiful area to eat near the lake, a good size bathroom, and lots of parking. It is very quiet. As of May 2022 part of the trail has been closed off after heavy rain as it is too wet to traverse. I imagine they will reopen it by end of May and June.

Steep, but moderate and short hike. I went with my parents (both in their 60s) and it took us just slightly over an hour. A few parking spots at the trailhead, but we only saw two other hikers when we were there in mid-June. Great views at the top!

This is a short (1.5-mile RT), quick hike, but it gives you a good workout and has stunning panoramic views at the top. The trail has lots of rocks and roots, so wear appropriate footwear. We appreciated the stairs added on the steepest sections.
Lydia M — Google review
Wonderfully steep, 1km directly up to top of the mountain. Be careful of wildlife. Make noises. Wear good hiking shoes as this can be tough without it! Couple of puddles here and there, and some stony paths. At the top there is a red Muskoka throne to sit upon and view the landscape. Very beautiful and makes for a great photo opportunity!

It is a very beautiful short hiking, it worth it ! It took us 35 min, 2.3 kms, 149m of D+
Marjorie C — Google review
Absolutely worth it!! The hike is not as steep as I feared from the reviews - I'd describe it as a steady climb, rather than a super steep incline. Took me about 1 hour roundtrip. The views at the top are incredible. Note that the first viewpoint with a bench is not the summit - keep going!
Deborah S — Google review
This is an invigorating hike. While it isn't very long (1.2km each way) it is uphill the entire way up to the lookout. The lookout is definitely worth it though! There are a lot of roots to contend with and different types of stairs.

If you find yourself traveling along the stunning Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, make sure to stop by Andrew's Pizzeria for a delightful dining experience. This charming eatery offers an array of freshly prepared pizzas, wraps, subs, and salads that are perfect for satisfying any appetite. Their 18-inch pizzas are ideal for families and come loaded with generous toppings and delicious vegan cheese options.
I visited Cape Breton National Park first time with family. Being vegetarian (no meat, no fish, no egg), I was told that Cabot Trail does not have any food options for vegetarians. I looked up Andrew’s Pizzeria on Google and decided to try out their vegetarian pizza. We went in to order in person. Staff was very friendly and they understood our dietary preferences. We brought pizza to our resort and loved it. We were hungry and this was out best meal of the day. I highly recommend Andrews Pizzeria to others. There is small place for dine-in as well.

Our pizza was awesome. We devoured it on the picnic table in front of the restaurant :) Service was great too! Lots of outdoor seating but none inside the restaurant.

Delicious pizza! You have a variety to choose from. My favourite is Deluxe. You have a vegetarian pizza as well, also sandwiches, fries and some other things. Space to eat. I took of a star because the lady who works there (owner maybe?) with grey hairs is ridiculously not friendly lol Every year we come there and she is true to herself and never changes 😂 Severe look, no smile, zero customer service. But it’s ok though, we forgive her because the pizza is good.

After a drive along the first leg of the Cabot Trail, before settling into bed at a nearby Inn, I was in search of some comfort food - and the pizza I was served here was incredible. They have picnic tables just outside the front door, which provides a beautiful space for you to eat your pizza as fresh as possible. It may not be all that affordable, but it was worth the price!

Really happy with this pizza. Phoned up to order and it was ready in 15 minutes. Marinara sauce was tasty, cheese too. Great option as not many places to eat in Ingonish - and if they are, may not be open. Note Andrews closes at 7.30pm so get your order in early! For those not familiar with sizes the 14 inch was good for two people, no leftovers.

Main Street Restaurant & Bakery in Ingonish Beach, NS offers a farm-to-table dining experience with a seasonal menu and warm hospitality. The family-run restaurant serves locally sourced seafood and provides a casual atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. Guests can also unwind with live music at a local pub after their meal. The restaurant is located along the iconic Cabot Trail, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
My husband and I went to Main Street Restaurant (Ingonish Beach), and we can highly recommend this restaurant! We had two fabulous dinners, and the drinks were also top-notch! We loved our meals so much that we went again the next day for dinner and drinks, and it was just as fantastic! I had the lobster roll and the Isle Margarita it was absolutely incredible! My husband had the Halibut with mashed potatoes and an Espresso Martini, which he said were really good! Our dinners the next day were the lobster tacos with a Mojito, and my husband had the haddock with an Ingonish Sunrise, and it was just as fantastic with good portions for all meals, too! Please enjoy some of the pics attached to my review. If you are in Ingonish Beach (Ingonish) and are exploring the Cabot Trail, this restaurant should be a must stop! TIP: This restaurant does get packed quickly for dinner, so get their early to avoid any disappointment. ANOTHER TIP: Restaurants in the Ingonish area close early, like 7:30pm-8pm so please plan accordingly to enjoy this restaurant!

I ordered the lobster roll, and wow—it was simply divine! Each bite was bursting with freshness, the kind of flavor that instantly transports you to the seaside. The ingredients tasted so pure and perfectly balanced, making it one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a long time. What made our visit even more special was our wonderful server, Vuk. His warmth, friendliness, and genuine attentiveness turned an already great meal into an unforgettable experience. He made everything feel so smooth and welcoming, like dining with a friend who truly cares. Everything from the food to the service was top-notch. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving something deliciously fresh and served with heart!

Loved the service, atmosphere, and food! We came an hour before closing, and despite the long queue, the staff seated us quickly. The service was warm and attentive. After days of eating nothing but sandwiches and burgers, my tongue was seriously craving some flavorful Indian masala and this place delivered exactly what I needed! We ordered the curry chicken, which was packed with flavor and served in a generous portion. We also tried the stir fry. The spice level was good, but it had a bit of a sweetish flavor that wasn’t really to my taste. Still, overall a great experience and would definitely recommend!

The beer on tap was pretty good, ordered an IPA and a lager. We tried the lobster roll and a vegetarian burger, the lobster roll was tasty, but the veggie burger was just okay and tasted like a store bought patty. Overall, it was a decent experience, and worth a visit. But I'd recommend the regular fries over the sweet potato ones, and skip the veggie burger.

Absolutely amazing experience! The food was so fresh and delicious, especially the lobster, but the real highlight was our server Vuk, seriously one of the best! He was super friendly, upbeat, and made the whole dinner so much fun. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does and answered all our questions and requests. His energy just made the whole meal even better. Will definitely be back the next time we come around! 🙌👏

For a place simply named main street restaurant, the food was surprisingly very good. Was one of our best meals along the Cabot Trail. Only caveat is that service can be a bit lacking as they are stretched thin and also run the bakery counter.

Everything was absolutely perfect. We stopped here on our way to the Cabot Trail and the service and food was impeccable. Highly recommend! Pictures: seafood chowder, lobster role and halibut

I’ve been to Main Street in the summer and again in the fall and both visits were great! The food is always fresh and delicious, especially the seafood. Our server Duke was extremely friendly and makes you feel right at home. It’s got a nice, relaxed vibe and good portions for the price. Such a perfect spot to stop after exploring the Cabot Trail. Can’t wait to go back next time!

Market
Doucette's Market & Eatery is a convenient stop for travelers, offering snacks, ice, and Canadian crafted dry soup mixes from the Mitchell Soup Company. The eatery provides grab-and-go fresh-made sandwiches and iconic Cape Breton pizza burgers. The store also features merchandise from Clays Confectionary Shop downstairs. Customers appreciate the clean and spacious environment with a small dining area available. Visitors praise the friendly staff who provide excellent service, including fulfilling special orders like birthday cakes.
I've been coming here often since I moved to the area. It's a great place especially if you just need a few things they got lots of selection in convince store. Food has been great not one complaint. The highland burger loaded was delicious and not one of those round patties either it was juicy and deeped fried pickles 😋. The chicken box is great to crispy coating outside chick still tender and juicy not greasy like most places. Still got lots to try lol. Staff is very friendly.

A convenience store and a fast food service in one place. Clean, spacious, and has a small seating area for dining in. They have a bit of merchandise from Clay’s Confectionary Shop downstairs, so it was great to pick up a box of candy from there even though the actual shop was closed. I got the iconic Cape Breton pizza burger from here and there was a microwave available to heat it up.

I would highly recommend this place they have everything you need they serve food and they have a little convenience store which is a little pricey but that comes with convenience you definitely have to try their homemade drumstick we got the cotton candy one there was also a peanut butter one and chocolate I believe it was phenomenal and I would definitely buy another one the food was also good we only have to wait about 15 minutes for it to arrive but gives us lots of time to browse the shop

They have almost all the products needed in this remote place. I tried the chicken wings here. They are very good and worth the money. Staff is very friendly

Great food. Was quick. Great menu for picky kids. Mozza bites, fries and tenders. Also a great little stop to grab snack and souvenirs.

This was our second visit to Ingonish this month, and our third time stopping at this place. The staff is very friendly and they store is well-stocked with everything a tourist or visitor might need, which is always convenient. The food here is tasty, and the portions are generous for the price. We ordered a pound of chicken wings and a chicken burger, which comes with a choice of fries or onion rings. The wings were flavorful, and the portion was satisfying. One thing that disappointed is the chicken burger doesn’t come with a traditional chicken patty; instead, they use chicken tenders. It’s not what we expected, but aside from that, everything else was good.
Yashika N — Google review
Great place to stop by for food and groceries. Didn't see much fruit and vegetables though. Fishburger and chicken tenders hit the spot

We forgot to pack a small canister of propane and were very happy to find this store open until 8pm on a Friday in October when most other stores are closed. They had quite a few basic camping necessities (toilet paper, bug spray, dish soap, lighters, etc.) as well as locally made crafts, sauces, and gifts.

The Arduaine Restaurant and Lodge offers a delightful dining experience with picturesque views of the water. The menu features delectable dishes such as lobster tortellini, chowder brimming with lobster, and superb mussels. The use of fresh and flavorful ingredients enhances the overall dining experience at this charming establishment.
We saw the mostly negative reviews for the Arduaine, and decided to check it out anyway for dinner. I’m so glad we did! The views and atmosphere are obviously breathtaking, the service was friendly and efficient, and our food was excellent! Fish and chips was a highlight - massive portion, excellent chips and delicious fish. It was perfectly seasoned and moist with a good crispy batter. Steak was slightly underdone (ordered medium-rare, got rare) and not the greatest cut of meat, but it was perfectly seared and well seasoned with a good mushroom and onion sauce. The Nashville chicken sandwich was perfectly decent. Nothing to write home about, but well cooked, moist and flavourful. Apparently ownership and management has changed at some point in the last few years, and it seems like their lunch service may be run differently. Dinner at the Arduaine, however, was excellent! We’ll definitely be going back next time we’re in Ingonish.

We were told there is live music here, so we stopped in for dinner. We found out that the live music is only in the separate lounge. There was elevator music playing in the restaurant that competed with the live music in the lounge. That was disappointing. Oddly, when we were greeted at the hostess station, we were asked if we had a reservation. We stated that we didn't, and the hostess said she would try to squeeze us in. There are about 25 tables in the dining room, and there were only people sitting at two of them. We got a table for 2 right by the window with a fabulous ocean view. Only a few more people came in while we were eating. The next disappointment came with the fish & chips. I would not recommend ordering it. The batter was too thick in spots and uncooked and slimy in the middle. See attached photo. After we ate, we went into the lounge and enjoyed the live music by Chad. That was worth the visit. Bravo, Chad 👏

We were skeptical about this restaurant due to many bad reviews, but it was not that bad. Outdoor seating area is so beautiful with stunning view! Salad was good, simple with good dressing (small). I liked Lobster pasta a lot: very good pasta sauce, a lot of big pieces of lobsters, pasta a bit overcooked. Shrimps and scallop scampi is fine, pasta cooked perfectly. 3 shrimps and 3 scallops are small. The dish was good but not as elevated as Lobster pasta.

We enjoyed the haddock, lobster ravioli (app) and two desserts. The food was good for the price point. We were happy with our meals. Some of the wines noted were not available but they had some additional options. Our server, Morgan, was great. She hustled! She was friendly, approachable and attentive. Looking around you could tell the staff was on it. The atmosphere is okay - we weren't by the window but had a nice view of the water nonetheless. After dinner we moved into the lounge to listen to the live music (was great!). We ordered a few more drinks. Again, the bartender was excellent.

Our final night in Cape Breton was met with a very odd experience at this restaurant. We were sat without much issue, but immediately had to contact the wait staff as their air conditioner was dripping water on us. They dealt with this fine. Our food was...difficult. I had chicken parmesan with puttanesca sauce, no complaints. My wife had their lobster dinner, which is served with vegetables and potato salad. Due to a dill allergy we requested the potato salad replaced with smashed potatoes (truffled smashed potatoes are an item on their menu)... She received a very overcooked lobster complete with innards, a bowl of boiled potatoes, and no vegetables. Some slightly steamed carrots were delivered (only after requesting a vegetable). The server was fantastic and I couldn't help but feel badly for the front staff. I would be looking for training for the culinary group in the back. The potential due to fantastic view and beautiful building is there, just not fully utilized.

We were staying in the area for a couple nights and made reservations for an early dinner here. The weather was near perfect so we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the fresh air. Our waitress was friendly and took care of us. We got their Parmesan crusted salmon and their lobster baked ziti and enjoyed them both. For dessert we split a warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla and lots of caramel. We left as things were starting to get busy though could have stayed to listen to live music in the lounge. Amazingly they have six hours of music every night between two acts. Enjoy.

Delightful dinner at sunset after golf at Highland Links! The view was spectacular and a convenient location with plenty of parking. The Linguine Primaveras was fabulous! Emma was such a wonderful server with a great smile and conversation!

Do not bother. Horribly mismanaged. Slow service as some waiters doing everything while others stand around. My meal was so disappointing and I felt bad complaining as our waiter did his best. I ordered the halibut and it came with no sauce, overcooked veggies and was tasteless. Worse yet, the plate was watery so it all sat in water. The waiter said the kitchen insisted it was a butter sauce! So infuriating as it was clearly just water from the vegetables that hadn’t been drained and then they charged us with no apology, nothing. Lovely views but never again.

Cape Breton Highlands Links is a renowned 18-hole golf course offering stunning views of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is known for its challenging fairways and bunkers, making it a top choice for golf enthusiasts. The course, designed by Stanley Thompson in 1941, has been consistently ranked among the top 100 courses globally. After undergoing restoration to its original design, it continues to attract visitors seeking an unforgettable golfing experience.
Great course, challenging but forgiving at the same time. Surrounded by beautiful back drop of the ocean, cliffs and beautiful scenery. Also needed to add that we brought our sons with us to play 7 and 9 and the pro shop and Marshall were so friendly and welcoming of the future players of the game.

I wish I could give this a 4 but I can’t. If you are going to pay 150 dollars green fees plus cart etc. you expect a certain level of service and this course does not provide that. The good - the design is impressive and the views truly magnificent. The fairways and rough are effectively managed - a lot of moguls in the fairways. But (and I want to emphasize this) this is NOT enough if you are going charge these prices. Fairways (early spring) in good conditions. Some of the greens need work - they are NOT too 100 condition at all. The not so good (for a course of this level). my municipal course had nicer carts than these. The cart path is a disgrace - heavy rock dirt trail - it’s a mess. The service is sparse at best. No drink cart. Service is minimal at best, dismissive at worst. You are not greated, assisted or welcomed in almost any way. This is tourism folks - you need to do better. I drive longer than 6 hours to add this to my play list - wish I had not. Black flies are bad in the valley section - not unmanageable, not much to be done. Bring Deep Wood off for sure. Traps are in medium condition. Then there are some baffling decisions. They have a beautiful long par 3 in the valley section and they built a gross looking cement brick power station 200 feet above it. It’s like choosing to paint a zit on the face of Mona Lisa. If this wasn’t a Stanley Thompson design with views - this would be a 2 star course. Here’s hoping They can put some effort into this course cause it could and should be a destination. As it stands - I would not recommend making the trip.

One of the best courses I ever played! If you are looking for a country club with artificial waterfalls, go so.ewhere else. If you love natural beauty and a diffifult course as nature built it, it is just great! Ocean, river, mountains and as the icing on the cake the Indian summer colors. I think the course is well maintained, and we enjoyed our round very much!

I know there are other courses on the island that everyone likes too talk about, but I kid you not, this is the best of them all. Hands down. Even with such a dry summer conditions were great. A challenge for any level of Golfer. Friendly and helpful staff,
Iggi R — Google review
Came here expecting a top ten course feel (currently ranked top ten by ScoreGolf in Canada) and it did not meet expectations . Granted the dry season this year did not do any favours to the grass conditions but there were too many things that make this course more of a 80th or lower ranked course. Most of all, the course is very tired. Cart paths are worn down, landscaping neglected, buildings and structures very old. The scenery was not as it was hyped up either, It felt like a municipal course in a lot of ways. The first four and last two holes were the best in terms of layout and scenery. The second par three is incredibly difficult and made for an entertaining front nine. Overall kudos to the groundskeeping team for trying to keep course in better shape, I hope they find success for next season. Service was very good, proshop very nice and had a great convo with the course marshall.

Wow. What an excellent course. Very, very challenging, definitely recommend a cart as it is very long. Cannot wait to play again.

We were a foursome, 2 women, 2 men. We just came from a few days playing Cabot Links & Cliffs. Highland Links was a wonderful addition to our golf holiday. Beautiful ocean view holes, challenging blind second shots, it was a very fun round. The staff were all pleasant and accommodating. The greens were in great shape, a bit slow because it had just rained. The course was well maintained and the pin placements were generous. We took carts, which was good…it’s hilly and would have been a tough course to walk. We had fun splurging on swag with the cool bald eagle logo in the pro shop. The final treat was delicious lunch on the patio at the Keltic Lodge cafe with an amazing view and great service.
Nina E — Google review
We played Cape Breton Highlands September 10. The course was in good shape with everything being lush and green. If you happen to get a flat lie then you should consider yourself lucky as a lot of the holes have many hummocks in them. Some fairways are very slanted. There could be a little more love given to carts and cart paths. Let’s just say it is a challenge which is good. No driving range is a shame cause it would be nice to warm up before facing first few holes. The one standout feature for the day was pro shop attendant Kirk. What a treasure they have in him. He is an absolute hoot! Friendly, extremely informative about the course and area along w the local sense of humour. He is a keeper for sure.

Designed by the renowned Stanley Thompson, this course features rolling fairways that wind through lush forests and alongside serene riverbanks. The thoughtful layout challenges golfers while immersing them in Nova Scotia's breathtaking wilderness. This historic course located within the park is a great track. Tough course when wind is blowing. Friendly staff and starter. You can tell the place is loved and it is full many times so suggest you get the Keltic Lodge Golf package to stay and play. It's actually a pretty good deal.

Very friendly guys in the pro shop and a friendly starter who gave some good tips. It was a fun twilight round. Wish there was a sand bottle in my cart. Could be slow since there are a lot of resort golfers and I didn’t see a Marshall. The GPS on the cart does indicate if you are behind pace but not everyone pays attention to this.

Love this course ~ very scenic ~ Luke, the pro shop manager is a real gem!!! Thank you for such great service!! Geese are causing a mess on one hole on the front.
Kathy J — Google review
Not worth the effort to play here. Course condition is not even close to the money. At max it is just a low quality community golf course. It is just riding the name of cape Breton or Cabot links. Hard and uneven fairway ( not by design type uneven) and dusty cart path( you will eat a lot dust after a round). And so so green - not watered for weeks probably. Very unmaintaimed.

Freshwater Lake is a unique natural wonder located in a picturesque setting. Over time, the beach's large cobblestones have been smoothed by the waves, creating a stunning shoreline. The lake itself is separated from the salty Atlantic Ocean by a barachois made of beach cobbles. Visitors can cross this barrier to take a refreshing dip in the warm freshwater lake, an unusual sight so close to the ocean.
The calm lake next to the bay with clear water is perfect for SUP and Kayak, and many people swim here. It is safer than the bay for beginner paddlers.
K K — Google review
The trail is short and yes a good incline, compared to other views offered by mother nature elsewhere In Cabot Trail, the view is OK. What intrigued us was the fact that there is lake that is meters away from the ocean. I could not believe that the lake was fresh water - I actually had to taste it. The phenomenon I believe is rare. There is a coffee shop/ snack shop right near the beach and fairly good washroom facilities. The beach is amazing and so is the lake.

We started over at the ocean side of the park. A short two minute walk brought us to the freshwater lake and improved our playtime immeasurably. The lake is shallow for a long way which makes the water so warm. There are hundreds of minnows to delight youngsters and playground if water is not for your little ones. Enjoy!

Middle Head Hiking Trail is a fantastic hiking trail located in Cape Breton National Park. The trail offers moderately challenging terrain with uneven ups and downs, making it suitable for those who are relatively fit. The path is covered by a tree canopy, providing some shade along the way. Hikers can enjoy benches throughout the trail and breathtaking views of the ocean at various points.
Don’t believe the signs — this trail is NOT 2.4 miles, it is 3.5+ miles. They have made many many adjustments to the trail to make it more interesting and flatter — but ultimately made it longer. Also because of all the changes — there’s a bit more direct hiking in the sun than ideal, but that will change in time. It’s a great trail though — the views are so beautiful. The many overlooks are stunning. Do this trail! :-) (but BRING WATER)

We came to the Keltic Lodge for a spa treatment, then out of the blue I saw this hiking trail. Middle head hiking trail as soon as I start reading up on it I got excited and couldn’t wait to go so I dragged my wife out to the end of it. We are both super happy we did this. It is a great little hike and see the scenery and the nature is unbelievable. To have the ocean on both sides of you as you’re walking to the end, you can only be that.

Great hike, has some steep elevation changes though. About 2.5km (one way). Thin is about 1.5 hrs round trip.
Christian P — Google review
Easy, well maintained 3.2 miles, 2 hours if you go to the end and much shorter if you just do the short loop
HW W — Google review
One of the best trails in the Cape Breton National park. The trail is moderately challenging, roots, up hill and down hill. There was not much too see along the way. At the end of the trail, the view was fascinating. Because the short side of the loop was closed, had to return from the long side. That added total distance to about 7km. It was definitely worth the effort.
Patrick X — Google review
Fairly easy trail (some uphill portions) but great views. Well worth the 2 hours.
Mike B — Google review
Was probably harder than usual as it was 30 C. Strong breeze only felt in some spots and at point. Fairly easy dirt trail with rocks so not great for strollers. Worth the hike for the fabulous view at the end. Skyline trail was closed yesterday 'at capacity" so glad we could do this one. Took us over an hour with stops to cool off (there are stretches with shade.) Dogs allowed on leash.
Katia J — Google review
Our very first trail at the park. We were perhaps the one of the few first ones to enter the trail. The hike is a. It difficult as the terrain is quite uneven and has few ups and downs that could tire not so fit people easily. There are benches throughout just in case. Most of the trail is covered in tree canopy and some of it is out. Some of the views are amazing from the benches. Do take a good camera or a mobile with good quality camera. At the end you are faced one of the better views of the ocean. The views are good and if you go a bit further there you get a good view of the wild waves below. The rocks give you a nice resting spot and a cool summer breeze when we were there. On our way back we took the the circle ( a slightly longer way back) - not necessary as it does not give you additional views or challenges.

Great place to stay for exploring the eastern portion of Cape Breton National Park. Kim (part owner) is a great host and made us feel very welcomed. We stayed in room #6 which is upstairs (no elevator on premise) and faces the back (not ocean view). The room is pretty standard. Decor is outdated but very clean. The included buffet breakfast has a variety of breads, yogurts, cold cuts, and hot dishes like sausages and scrambled eggs, and the view of the ocean from the dining area is absolutely fabulous. Overall, we had a great experience at Castle Rock Country Inn.

Beautiful, cozy hotel. We stayed in room 6. The gentleman at the check-in desk was so wonderfully helpful. What an awesome person to have to greet new guests. He was so genuinely concerned about helping us with our later arrival. He even made sure we had gotten dinner! Breakfast was delicious. We didn't even mind that there wasn't an elevator. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!!

Very comfortable clean room. Staff very gracious. Common area with many windows includes tables for sumptuous breakfast and also for wine and beer. We brought crackers and cheese to go with our wine and enjoyed them on the deck. Views are of hotel grounds and distant ocean. Good starting point for hikes in Cape Breton Highlands, but all trails were closed when we were there (fire risk). We did have some good long beach walks though.

Update: Changed to 3 star. Received a call from the hotel. They acknowledged the error and are providing a refund for the difference ****** We carefully planned a 15 day trip to the maritimes. We booked this place on Hotels.com and received a confirmation booking for a total price of 276.76. The hotel charged us 319.44. We did not ask for anything extra. Afterwards we reached out to Hotels.com and they said they attempted to reach the hotel for a refund but were unsuccessful so it is unlikely we will receive a refund of the 42.68 over charge. This location was beautiful but the place is in need of some care and not a $320.00 a night stay. This overcharge not being corrected just feels gross, like it is purposely done- read other reviews, this is not the first time this has happened at this establishment. We have used Hotels.com on this trip and this is the ONLY place that charged different than the booking. I wanted to give it a higher rating …maybe 3 star but not correcting an overcharge? This is just so poor. I’d give more stars for the view but this whole area is beautiful. I’d recommend staying elsewhere.
Heidi B — Google review
Stayed a night here recently. They used to have dinner service but apparently staff is hard to find, so there is a nice dining room with a great view. It was enjoyable to sit there or on the deck for the decent included breakfast. The place has a lot of deferred maintenance and needs an infusion of money. Most upsetting was to find out that their tap water was perhaps unsafe, and they were waiting for certification from the government. Most of the rooms had signs indicating not to drink the water. We were not warned at checkin and our room had no sign, yet there were drinking glasses in the bathroom. So I had a glass of water not knowing there was risk to my health. We will see if I get sick. In any case, fairly upsetting.

Nestled in a serene coastal setting, Glenghorm Beach Resort offers a laid-back retreat with informal rooms and a range of amenities. The resort boasts a private white sand beach where guests can bask in the sun and enjoy nightly bonfires by the sea. The well-equipped rooms are tastefully decorated, featuring spacious beds, free Wi-Fi, and scenic views of the ocean.
I spent 4 nights there when visiting Cabot trail last week. Excellent experience! Great location, right on the entrance of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Many beautiful trails nearby. Private beach, my child’s favorite spot! Relax in the beach after day hiking, perfect! Breakfast available, nice restaurant for dinner, we tried seafood pasta and burgers, delicious. Also plenty of restaurants not far from the resort, very convenient! Staffs are nice and helpful! Great place to stay !

Stayed here for 1 night this September 2025 after travelling the Cabot Trail. The reception was good. The 1 storey motel building is showing it's age and after reading negative reviews, we were were happily surprised that our room exceeded our expectations. The check-in/restaurant /accommodation building and different sized cottage buildings closer to the ocean, makeup the remainder of this large property between the main road and ocean. The room was clean with no odours. It appears to have been newly painted and laminate flooring. We had a good sleep on the queen size bed that had a comfortable mattress with good linens and pillows. There was no problem getting hot water in the shower. Five minute walk to the ocean with long sandy/rocky shore to explore or just sit and watch the waves. We would not stay in this room during a hot summer as the small, old window a/c is loud and you would not get a good sleep with it on. Likely the soundproofing is minimal between rooms but we were lucky the couple next door were quiet. $200 for the night in this area is expected and you can easily spend more.

Location great for exploring the Cabot trail. We stayed in the last cabin (506) and had a water view which was amazing. The cabin itself has everything you need (including a BBQ and full kitchen - unfortunately the fridge smelt badly of fish and wasn't very cold), the cabin was a little dated and unlevel but overall pleasant for a night. There is easy access to a sandy beach a play area and community fire pit (unfortunately people had used this as a garbage can filling it with poop bags). Staff at check-in were friendly however we had to hunt to find someone to checkout. Not much information in terms of amenities was provided making it hard to know what was available or what expectations were (i.e no information on garbage, recycling, compost or the fire pits and activities). Would recommend.

Let's start with the positive... Nice beach at the bottom of the property. Rooms are clean and towels are bright white and stain free. And that is as good as it gets. Our room (#110) looked like it last saw an upgrade at some point during the 1980s. The walls are paper thin, you can hear people in the rooms below and beside you, the doors are a mess and many guests could be heard slamming their doors to get them closed, which we were not enjoying, right up to shy of midnight. The amount of outdoor noises from guests talking as well as passing vehicles on the Cabot Trail was frustrating, to say the least, even with our windows closed. The windows were a fight to open and close, there was clear day light around 3 of the 4 sides of the front door to the room. The door locks inspired ZERO confidence, the water pressure in the shower was a joke and the beds were small and horribly uncomfortable. The mattresses were crazy hard but not in a designed, therapeutic way. None of this speaks to the water staining on the ceiling from a sizeable past leak. Even now the peak of the roof is covered is plastic sheeting on the outside. As illustrated in an attached photo. I have never felt the need to write a "negative" review but one is justified here. We knew when we booked that this was not a 5* motel, nor were we expecting it to be but $309 a night, it is very nearly a crime. We have done a great deal of traveling and even considering the location (Cabot Trail) this is a $160-$180 room - TOPS! Even that could be argued. Furthermore, we had a dog with us and we called to be sure of all the conditions and pricing for having the dog, when we booked. We were told that "there could be an additional $30 charge should the room need extra cleaning as a result of your dogs being with you". (Yes, that is an exact quote). When we arrived there, that $30 became an automatic and immediate charge. We were told "we charge that to everyone with a dog". That is not what we were were told when we booked. Bottom line, we felt "ripped off" for what we got vs what we paid and we expressed that to a member of the hospitality team upon out check out. We would not recommend this motel to anyone, ESPECIALLY priced as it is.

We welcomed the chance to relax in the cottage 501 with views to the beach from the deck . We used the bbq as stove didn’t work . Shower recess needs some attention and extra window screens to keep insects out would be good . We shopped at the Fresh Mart ( not so fresh ) about 3km away . Shout out to the guy in the outdoors shop who had heaps of local information . It would have been good to find out the history of the accommodation but receptionist didn’t know .

Visited with my father and two friends for a golf trip. Rented the "Ocean Suite" at Glenghorm. I have stayed here before so I wasn't too worried about it. It was Far From an Ocean Suite. Payed $725 for two nights. First off, the air conditioner was not working, and the Refrigerator was broken. Told the main desk, nothing was done about it. All the food we brought had gone bad after two days. Nothing provided for cooking other than a bbq which you had to rent separately. The "Continental Breakfast" was pitchers of juice and water with plastic wrap over the top, eggs and sausages that were disgusting, bagels and fruit, that were clearly old and not fresh. Then they go on to tell us its an extra $15 for this breakfast. We were there during the week but the bar and restaurant were never once opened, other than for the breakfast. I believe there were bed bugs in my bed as well, as I returned home with red bumps all over my legs. When spending over $700 for a two day stay, we were expecting a lot better service and a lot better of a room when it is considered a "Suite". All in all, a very, very disappointing stay and will be thinking long and hard about staying with them again until the service and rooms are better.

Comfy cottage right above a beach. Pet friendly and a quiet location. The beach is beautiful especially at sunrise. Good location to many trails restaurants and activities. This is our second stay and have many great memories to bring home.

We stayed in Glenghorm Beach Resort for 4 unforgettable nights around the end of this July, room is clean and staff are warm. For now I seems still can see the beautiful beach view in front of my eyes, and hear the pub singer's nice song in that Friday night......

Whale watching tour agency
Ingonish Whale Watching Tours offers an exhilarating experience for nature enthusiasts. Located in Nova Scotia, it provides the opportunity to witness 12 different whale species during summer and fall. The tours take place in Cape Breton and the Bay of Fundy, known for their abundant marine life, making them ideal breeding and feeding grounds for these majestic creatures. The knowledgeable crew works hard to ensure a memorable experience, often spotting juvenile eagles, grey seals, and even Fin Whales out in the Atlantic.
The trip was amazing! The captains were very knowledgeable, they took us around and showed us some bald eagles that had recently left the nest, as well as some seals. Being out in the open water was awesome, we looked for some whales but sadly didn't find any. It was still a great trip and would recommend!
Dayna N — Google review
What a great experience! We booked the whale watching tour knowing that there is always a risk of not seeing a whale. The boat Captain and his father (family business) took 10 of us out in the afternoon of July 23. Sunny day. Started by seeing an Eagle perched on a tree, we had not seen one all week. As the trip went on we saw Grey Seals on the rocks! Nice find. We then went out 20-25 minutes from shore and found a pod of Pilot Whales. They were all around us 12+, one cow with her baby next to her. They came close to the boat, like a show. It was great! The Captain then told us another boat had sighted a Blue Whale and were we willing to travel another 20-25 minutes to potentially see the biggest whale of all, to which we agreed to leave the Pilot Whales and travel. We watched another boat near the Blue Whale as the Captain slowed down and brought the boat close. We saw the Blue Whale and were able to take pictures and videos, including the tail! Great and unexpected day!

We had an absolutely amazing time! Jake was very well-informed and worked hard to make our experience fantastic. We saw a Fin Whale about five miles off shore and then ran into a pod of Pilot Whales on the way back. It was an incredible experience and we had so much fun! We are traveling to Nova Scotia from Michigan and took this whale watching tour with our three kids - ages 10, 9, and 5. It’s great for families and adults. We highly recommend it!
Erin P — Google review
Jake and family were great and very prompt with responses as we had a last minute booking. The boat trip was fun eventhough we couldn't see any whales. They refunded the full amount.
Anthony T — Google review
We had a fantastic time on our whale watching trip! We were lucky enough to see eagles, seals, and three playful whales. The captain was awesome — he really did his best to make sure we saw whales, even circling back several times so we could watch them again. For anyone hesitant about going on a zodiac, it felt very safe and comfortable — nothing to worry about. Highly recommend!
Nasim S — Google review
What a great experience! We saw puffins, seals and had the awesome experience of following a blue whale! Absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend!
Clayton J — Google review
We saw a large pod of pilot whales, jumping tuna, and a few shy seals. Jake was fantastic! He made sure we had an amazing experience, even going far away from Ingonish to where the pilot whales were spotted that day. His keen eyes spotted some tuna in a feeding frenzy that led to us spotting an incredible amount of albacore tuna and herring gulls feasting. During an incredibly dry season that prevented us from hiking any trails, we still had a once in a lifetime opportunity. Can’t recommend them enough!
Michael R — Google review
We had the best experience! From Jake who took us out, to the affordable pricing. We seen Atlantic white sided dolphins on our trip and they put on a great show for us! They showed up and were all around us , some jumping out of the water and following the boat it was an amazing experience for my two boys :) I highly recommend this company and we will be back next time we visit!

Marina
Ingonish Landing Marina offers a picturesque setting at the foot of a mountain range, where visitors can enjoy an ocean breeze and stunning views. Situated near a ski hill, the marina provides opportunities for fishing, water sports, and more. While there is a small beach for relaxation, it may not be ideal for swimming or sunbathing due to its pebbly shore.

Nature & Parks
The picturesque Mary Ann Falls is a 20-foot cascade located in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia. It offers a stunning view and features a viewing platform next to the falls. The falls are easily accessible through a short hike, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. It is said that locals enjoy swimming in the pool at the base of the falls during summers, although caution is advised due to strong currents at times.
It is a great spot - easy hike, not too far from parking and most importantly - it's a nice view. You can get really close to the waterfall, unbelievable quality and color of water, few spots to explore. It should be easy enough for younger kids, place for picnic and plenty of shade.
Leonid C — Google review
Probably pretty but we didn't manage because instead of it being a short hike after a drive, it is now a long hike (14,6km) on a road that is closed to all motorised traffic. So be aware before you go and plan accordingly.
Tom S — Google review
It's a beautiful place. The hike is boring and long, but in the end, the falls are a beauty of nature. You have to park and walk for an hour and a half. The road doesn't take you there as Google Maps say.
Juan M — Google review
Super easy to get to, short drive in maybe 20 mins doing 30kmh on a dirt road through the woods. Woth a decent size parking lot. Short 5 min walk down the rest of the road gets you to a little bathroom and shelter area, where you can cook and sleep if needed. This is right beside the river and the old bridge that goes over the top of the falls. paths all through the area to explore. Cute little spot to go swim in the summer for sure.

A must to visit when in the Cape Breton Highlands. Try to time your visit when there is good water flow like after a rain event.

Salty Rose's & the Periwinkle Café is a charming spot located along the Cabot Trail in Ingonish, offering a delightful experience for visitors. The café serves up a delectable all-day breakfast sandwich and a must-try lavender London fog. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic, with an Airbnb called Salty Roses located above the café for those looking to extend their stay. Additionally, guests can enjoy impeccable service from the friendly team.
This was our favourite cafe in all of Nova Scotia. The lavender fog and snow crab breakfast sandwich were spectacular. There is also a really lovely gift shop with local, high quality goods. Super friendly staff and beautiful views. Absolutely worth a stop if you’re driving the Cabot Trail.
Jeff K — Google review
We visited the cafe in August and it was so good we went back a second day! They have the BEST iced chai latte I have ever tried, and the snow crab breakfast sandwich is AMAZING. The regular snow crab sandwich is also worth trying. We can't wait to go back next summer! There is also a small petting farm beside the cafe that is fun to visit.
Victoria H — Google review
Stopped for breakfast at the Periwinkle Cafe and had a scone, cinnamon bun and 2 breakfast sandwiches. I had a flat white and my partner had a drip coffee. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing, particularly for the price. The pastries were dry and lacked flavour or texture. The breakfast sandwiches were tasty, but felt overpriced for what you got. The coffee was very good and the staff were lovely, perhaps the saving grace.
Kendra J — Google review
We stopped by the Periwinkle Cafe and got a breakfast sandwich with snow crab. It was delicious! The cafe was very cute and had a gift shop attached to it. Definitely recommend stopping by for a coffee and bite to eat. :)

I've been touring Nova Scotia and PEI for almost two weeks and this was the best cappuccino I have had since arriving. I admit I am a coffee snob, but the standard generally has been low, even in places which claim to be good at coffee, so this was a treat! As I am also craving vegetables, I had the veggie sandwich which was ok. I found the bread a bit dry for my taste, but I was glad of the veggies. I haven't commented on rooms because we just used the cafe and I was pleased by the ambience, the seating and proper cups!
Rachel L — Google review
The place is beautiful, clean, and very friendly. We are vegan RV travelers and we loved it here. The latte with plant milk and the matcha were amazing! They also have a small section with art and merchandise that makes the place even more special.

Stopped here for a coffee on our way through the Cabot trail and was blown awaayyy by the coffee and sweet treats! Coming from the UK, I’ve only experienced gargantuan flat whites (often with poorly made coffee) on this side of the Atlantic and was so excited to see one properly sized. Not only that but it was delicious and well made, what a treat to find in the middle of the trail! Highly recommend the cinnamon swirls and their perfectly caramelised bottom too… yum! Thanks!!!!

Salty Roses and The Periwinkle Cafe is an absolute gem—cozy, charming, and so inviting. The staff are lovely and welcoming, it almost feels like visiting old friends. Their cheese and chive scones are unbelievable, and their iced oat latte is hands down the best I’ve ever had. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or a sweet afternoon tea, this place is a must-stop!

Nestled in a charming corner of the island, Bean Barn Cafe is a delightful spot that captures the essence of country-style dining. This cozy eatery serves up hearty Canadian breakfast and lunch options, making it an ideal stop for those craving comfort food. With a menu boasting everything from crispy chicken sandwiches to rich seafood chowder, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Fantastic home made breakfast and lunch! Breakfast sandwich comes with a real fried egg(not some processed egg) smoked ham that they cure for about 18hrs!! Try their chowder for lunch - chocked full of seafood a d just the right amount of cream . Oh the scones are right up there on the perfect scale with a crunchy crust and velvety interior.

We had a very good lunch at the Bean Barn Cafe. We had a cheese and ham sandwich and a bowl of chilly. The quality was very good. The staff was friendly and very fast. Also the interior of the cafe was nice. I can advice anyone to go and have breakfast or lunch at the Bean Barn Cafe.

Everything was amazing and fresh! We ordered breakfast and seafood Chowder. The most memorable for me was the homemade toast. Also ordered ice mocha and even the drink was amazing. I am coming back here tomorrow!
Monica Y — Google review
Had a veggie wrap which was delicious - definitely would recommend the sandwiches. I had a French vanilla latte and my boyfriend had a basic latte and unfortunately they tasted like hot water. I was disappointed they have machine coffee at a ‘cafe’. The key lime pie also wasn’t the best, didn’t taste very home made and not much lime flavour. If you’re looking for a good coffee/cafe this is not your best bet, but for a quick sandwich/deli it was great.
Puggie — Google review
Amazing homemade food! This place is amazing! They make delicious, homemade comfort food. Large portions. Great place for breakfast. I recommend the baked beans and fish cake for breakfast. It may sound strange to have fish cakes for breakfast but it was delicious! The baked beans were also good. Make sure you get a slice of their homemade pies to go before you get back on the Cabot Trail! The people who work there are so friendly, a good break from the smug, hipster-barista attitude that is all too common in Vancouver.

Great place for breakfast! Friendly staff and good quality food. Nice atmosphere and very clean. Great coffee that we enjoyed on the road!
