Sainte Anne de Beaupre in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Sainte Anne de Beaupre, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is best known for its impressive basilica, one of Canada’s major Catholic pilgrimage sites, renowned for its architecture, stained glass, and reported healings. Set along the St. Lawrence River about 30 minutes from Québec City, it offers a quieter, small-town atmosphere with scenic views. Nearby, you’ll find outdoor activities in all seasons, including hiking and cycling routes, as well as access to Mont-Sainte-Anne for skiing and mountain biking. The area also fits easily into a wider Côte-de-Beaupré drive, with waterfalls, viewpoints, and historic churches along the way.
With favorites like Les Trois Becs, Atelier Pare, and Musée Edison du Phonographe, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like McDonald's and Des Beaux Prés - Microbrasserie so you can get the best taste of Sainte Anne de Beaupre while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Sanctuaire Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a stunning neo-Romanesque building adorned with intricate stone sculptures and wood carvings. Visitors can enjoy guided tours and explore a religious shop on the premises. The church, located in the charming neighborhoods of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, boasts a diverse range of architectural styles, making it a delightful sightseeing experience.
Take a couple of hours to visit this beautiful church, whether you're a believer or not. The architecture, coloured glass windows and some captivating statues worth taking the time for. The one statue that impressed me the most was the Jesus on the cross, with one hand not yet crucified. Haunting... A must visit.

This is a beautiful church that seemed like a tourist trap. You are welcome to light a candle, and you can pay the suggested "offering" of $5 by credit card. Not a good look. There are signs posted requesting silence, but the tourists chatter away. While the inside is grand and beautiful to look at, we found the atmosphere inside to be less worshipful than we had hoped.
Scott H — Google review
A stunning and peaceful pilgrimage site. The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is absolutely breathtaking — both inside and out. The intricate mosaics, stained glass windows, and towering ceilings make it one of the most beautiful churches in Québec. It’s about 30 minutes from Québec City and well worth the drive. The atmosphere inside is calm and spiritual, even for non-religious visitors. The detailed artwork and craftsmanship throughout the basilica are incredible — make sure to look up at the ceiling and explore the crypt below. Free entry and plenty of parking available nearby. Whether you’re visiting for faith, architecture, or photography, this place is a must-see.

Always a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Well kept grounds, wonderful to sit in peace in the church and just bask in the beauty of the architecture. No matter what religion seems to be a popular spot to visit. Also some great local restaurants to try around if you’re looking for something to eat. Such a cute town to visit. People so friendly. We don’t speak fluent French and some locals didn’t speak much English but we were able to get by.

Reminds me a bit of the cathedral in Palermo. Monreale? The interiors are almost all from Europe (except amazing copper doors and carved wooden pews). The assemblage of abandoned dutchess, walkers etc was impressive. Wish we could have gone into the small chapel with the replica of the Pieta.
Jennifer J — Google review
It is better to visit the Basilica during weekdays as it is not busy. We did not buy any tickets (we don’t know that time if we need one). The church interior design is fascinating, it feels ethereal with the glittering of golden colour. Also, the outside architecture is gorgeous. Any pictures don’t do justice to the Basilica. There are also other beautiful churches nearby and up the hill that is worth a visit.
Frelyn R — Google review
Always love visiting the church. The church is beautiful inside. The chapel in the basement of the church is filled with smaller chapels. There was also a beautiful rosary path on the left hand side of the church. Along with Holy Stairs in a white building next to that. The gift shop had a lot of different goodies.
Susanna P — Google review
The Basilica was absolutely stunning. It offered a peaceful place for quiet reflection, allowing us to appreciate the many generations and historical families who have worshiped here over the centuries. The intricate details and sense of history were truly moving. You could feel the immense wealth and devotion of the community from that era, and the soft glow of candlelight created a beautiful atmosphere for prayer and contemplation.

(Translated by Google) In my life I have seen the Gallery a lot; However, I had not been received as I think I would have liked in the sense of ridicule, because someone had made a comment to me because the artist in question (I had asked him what this represented, abstract arts! And that I had to be intelligent) I would not go back there again). The big difference at NI VU NI CORNU! THE OWNER AND EVERYONE I MET, they educated me in their works and I became interested in their love of art! Abstract or recognizable visual creations! Given that my intelligence in the community was not seen as such, I would have been an idiot! Thank you Annie Lévesque for the love of the arts that you passed on to me. What an incredible space and moment in time to get to experience visually the historic significance of the artists! The DEEP Roots of his generational line in the land..... The significant VALUE of Family, biological and CHOSEN!!! The relational WEALTH is woven richly into the foundation, structure, artistic humour and expression. And extends into ,as well as from, the geographical region. Such a weighty History lesson that resonated deep within my heart and soul.... Absolutely Unforgettable!

Quai de Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a picturesque destination that beautifully combines natural beauty with cultural significance. Nestled near the renowned church, this area is particularly enchanting in autumn when golden leaves create a stunning backdrop. It's an ideal spot for families to gather and enjoy quality time together, thanks to its convenient amenities. A leisurely stroll along the well-paved pathways offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including glimpses of Quebec City and the majestic hills nearby.
A hidden gem in Baie Saint Paul area. Just 20 minutes walk from the downtown area. The beach is not regular beach but it’s long and nice walk. Prefect place to go there with friends and you don’t know how quickly the time will pass. Truly a majestic sight. Must visit on a sunny day to experience the beauty. Moreover it gets windy so if you are someone have issues better to carry a wind breaker.

We walked to the pier after visiting the church as they are directly across the street from one another. It is a deceivingly long walk but worth it. It’s very nicely paved, landscaped and lit. You can get a view of the island, Quebec City and even the Church of Sainte Anne with the hills as a backdrop.

Good track, very challenging greens in spite of the excellent briefing from Paulo the starter. If you stray off the fairways there’s a good chance your ball is gone, that being said the fairways are very wide.

McDonald's, an iconic and well-established fast-food franchise recognized for its delectable burgers and crispy fries, has gained a reputation for its longevity in the industry. It is worth noting that during a recent visit to this establishment, there were a number of young employees between the ages of 14 and 16 diligently working. These individuals proved to be exceptionally affable and delivered excellent customer service.
As always Mcdonald’s were great but i saw couple of 14 or 16 yr old working in there. They were very friendly and providing good service.

This Sunday evening by chance I am here. So bad experience, if there is possibility, I put 0. Noone stand on cashier, try to make order on stand,it is has mistake ,no one from staff ready to help. Food average quality, coffe- hot water with brown colour, mocca- hot water with milk. Toilet for woman, only one cabin can use, water in one think, no paper, no cleaning, when see all of this can't believe you are in Canada 2025. Where is management? Why all this bads reviews and no improvement provided. So sad.
Марина П — Google review
Horrible experience! No welcoming approach from staff! The staff in the drive should be coach on how to say a minimum hi and have a good day. They did not provide invoice. I had to go change my trio, sandwich was dry. The responsible simply replied I’m sorry we don’t check every meal that is delivered?? And seemed complicated to have my invoice ! Clearly she has a lack of knowledge on customer service! Last thing kitchen does not seem clean at all. Next to the oil pan it was disgusting! Will not stop at this McDonald’s anymore.

The mcnuggets took 20 minutes. The place was a shirt-show zoo, and the staff was overwhelmed. All the Catholics from church next door ended up eating there after church.

WORST MCDONALDS EVER!!!!! If you have time to waste and a lot of patience, feel free to go, but you need to expect to wait 30-60 mins for your order. Keep in mind that your order might have incorrect items though. I worked at McDonald’s for 5 years at one of the busiest McDonald’s in Canada and never saw this. Everyone is so clueless. The bin was full of food and one of the employees was just staring at the screen not knowing what to do.
Jessica — Google review
I've come here 2 mornings straight and the toilets are the most disgusting I've seen. There is paper everywhere on the floor, vomit, and the tampon bins are more than full. Sinks look like they've never been cleaned. I can't imagine the kitchen.

Honestly, very slow. Waited for 10 minutes to order and another 7 minutes for two drink. In the end the vanilla chaï was just the neutral base for the slushy. When I asked about it, the employee answered with attitude that it was one. The cashier was good and patient.

Great selection of beers, also glad they do have a few vegan options along. I had a IPA flight, very delicious, various of hoppiness and strength. 3 mushroom sandwich was good, it could be better if it uses a rustic sourdough slice. My wife had soup of the day and a brisket sandwich, she likes it.

Awesome beer selection and the planche to share was fantastic! My son had the wings which were actually smoked - I was impressed. We had our meal on the patio with a great view. I would make a detour to go back.

Very disappointed in the service and overall experience we had a couple weeks ago. When we were seated at our table the waitress said it was a 30 minute wait for food. After 45 minutes of waiting and no one coming to check in on us (as any good waitress/waiter should) we had to go find her and ask for more drinks. Then after an hour and a half, we went to find her again and was told 5 tables were still ahead of us! So we ended up paying for our drinks and leaving. We had a baby with us and the wait was unacceptable. The restaurant still had plenty of open tables and a full patio and still a 1 1/2 hour wait. The staff made no apology and still expected a tip! We will not be coming to this restaurant again and will advise our friends and family to stay away as well.
Sarah S — Google review
Unfortunately we had a very bad experience here, we have an 18 month old, we ordered drinks and food and the waitress said it would be a 30 minute wait for food. Keep in mind not all the table were full and no one was sitting outside. We waited the 30 mins, then 45, no one came to our table to ask us if we would like more drinks so we went and found our waitress to order more. When we had been waiting an hour and a half I asked the waiter where our food was and he said there were 5 tables waiting for food ahead of us. I was appalled. I don’t mind waiting a bit but when you have a baby and no one checked on us once to see if they could get us anything it was too much. So we left at 8:30 and went home to cook our crying baby food at home. Beer was good though

If you find yourself near the canyon, make sure to stop by Pizza Salvatoré for a delightful lunch experience. This charming spot may have limited seating, but it offers deliciously fresh pizza that can be enjoyed on-site or taken away. The staff at the Baie Saint Paul location are not only friendly and professional but also fluent in English, making your visit even more enjoyable. They recommend using their app for special deals, adding to the overall value of your meal.
Great pizza. Could tell the toppings were very fresh. Would definitely try them again.

I had to place my order online because of the language difference, and it was quite easy to do so. The customer service was excellent and the staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. However, the pizza crust felt a bit undercooked and fluffy, and the overall taste was not as good as I expected. Even though the food could have been better, the great customer service and positive attitude of the staff made the experience pleasant overall.

Les Trois Becs is a convenient catering service located just a 5-minute drive from Mont-Sainte-Anne. They offer a variety of homemade options for takeout, including high-quality sandwiches, baked goods, and local products. The service is perfect for those staying at the mountain who want to enjoy delicious food in the comfort of their chalet. While they currently only offer takeout and catering due to COVID-19, customers can still expect excellent service and tasty offerings from this establishment.
Amazing high quality pastries, sandwiches, and croissants for a reasonable price. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will return next time I'm in Quebec

Fantastic sandwiches. Worth the drive/stop. Bread was fresh, generous cheese and good quality meat and mustard. Had the cappuccino and hot choco, not bad at all. Very good pastries also. Lovely patio. Server/cashier was very friendly. Will be back again.

Good variety of delicious, high quality sandwiches, baked goods, and more. We had the ham & brie and smoked salmon sandwiches, plain croissant, a cannele bordelaise, and cafe au lait. All excellent. Service great from the owner herself (her husband is the chef). So good we came back the next day and bought the same thing, but with carrot cake and hot chocolate. Owner clarified since COVID they only do take-out and catering, no dine-in. But they have a constant stream of customers, deservedly.

Great sandwiches and dessert. Love the carrot cake. Attracted by the pictures of the hot food and the apparent great chefs. Quite disappointed to find out that the restaurant has been closed since Covid after we got there. This fact should have been posted as an update by the store on the website.

Excellent coffee and service. Barista helped us find the right kind of coffee for our fench press in the morning and ground it for us. Lemon tart was to die for. Tried the local red beer it was great too. Thank you for a nice experience

I ordered a grilled chicken panini which was too hard and dry. Still taste pretty good. My wife ordered the smoked salmon tartine which totally worth 4 stars.

Warm wonderful service, perfect English to help my pathetic French. Large, hot cappuccino. Totally yum poutine avec canard confit. Our first time with that dish (in love) but not w duck and let me tell ya, that duck was tender and flavorful. Sat outside in sun, added bonus!

The chef here is from France and it shows. I had veal cutlets with risotto and some spring vegetables. The veal was sautéed perfect with a sauce that was refreshingly not over-powering, as is common with lesser confident chefs. Risotto is often cooked by the kitchen help with disastrous results, but I must say I was totally surprised, perfect el dente with silky, creamy texture. Vegetables were a perfect texture and just the right seasoning. My companion had a duck entre which advertised as roasted but was likely seared, could be a French translation thing because it was perfect. My desert was Crème Brule, prepared by the assistant, the custard was too sweet but it was prepared well. The decor is "hippy sheek," the service excellent, the coffee OK. Needs a better alcohol selection (only had a mediocre Scotch while I wanted a Crowne Royal whiskey.) We did not order wine, no choice of sparkling waters. For the food this place should be on your list.
