If you only have 1 day to spend in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier is best known for Village Vacances Valcartier, a major resort with a large outdoor water park in summer and extensive snow-sliding runs and tubing in winter. In colder months, it’s also home to the seasonal Hôtel de Glace, an ice hotel built anew each year with sculpted rooms and an ice bar. The surrounding forests, rivers and trails offer hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, making it a convenient nature escape not far from Québec City.
With favorites like Hôtel de Glace, O'Grill, and Centre Castor, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurant Safari and Le Chalet Sportif so you can get the best taste of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier while you’re here. Valcartier Vacation Village, located about 20 miles northeast of Old Quebec near the Jacques-Cartier River, is a popular all-season resort offering a wide range of activities. Originally known for its toboggan run and snow tubing, the resort now features water slides and pools in the summer, as well as winter activities such as snow tubing and ice skating.
Waterpark was awesome. We enjoyed this park thoroughly when visited Quebec. Park had many water rides which were enjoyed by kids. It had warm water too so didn’t feel cold. If we are visiting as tourists I suggest you to go early(around 09:45) so that once park opens then you can get one of the shades. Also have some food snacks with you. Overall you will definitely enjoy the park.

Good family fun. Nice water parks indoor and out. Restaurants not so good. 4.50 for a fountain pop, 9 dollars for a slice of works mainly mushrooms not even fresh .Bring your own drinks. Bring snacks. Burgers free like fully processed not much real meat. Fries were over cooked and tasted old like cardboard. Eat away from hotel . Nice hotel, seems to be ran mainly by student. Like a gigantic McDonald's mentality.

My family enjoyed a three night stay over the weekend of October 3 - 6, 2025 and we were not disappointed. We stayed in a family suite that was spacious, clean and well adorned. The room was top notch. Our “Tropical” package included passes to the water park on two days. We had full use of Bora Parc without lines or waits. We all had a great time. The hotel staff were excellent and indulged my efforts to speak en francais. The staff were bilingual and happy to switch to English when required. La receptionist, Louise, est tres gentile est professionelle.Merci! The hotel restaurant The Captain, has a nice selection of food and the poutine (very large portion) was excellent. This is a great resort to visit, with excellent amenities, close to Quebec City and a very professional staff. Merci beaucoup. On reviendra bientôt!

Pretty dang cool facility! We chose to do the indoor park (Bora Park) on a Sunday at the end of July. We got there right at open and stayed for about 3.5 hours. That was enough to tire out both of my kids who were 13 and 10. No lines for any of the slides! We got a cabana but honestly it is not worth the price. If it were busier, yeah maybe it would have been nice to hide out there for a bit, but really they are not worth it. There was one teenager in the kitchen and one working the till at the restaurant so it took a while to get food, but all things considered it wasn’t too bad. We don’t have anything like this where we’re from and the kids had a blast! It was an extremely expensive day factoring in the cab rides to and from Quebec City too.

Our stay at Village Vacances Valcartier was nothing short of amazing — the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and top-notch hospitality. The resort has everything you could possibly want for a memorable getaway: a luxurious hotel, a world-class indoor waterpark, an incredible spa, and a variety of dining options all within the same property. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and beautifully designed, with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a premium resort. The staff went above and beyond to make our experience comfortable — friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. The indoor Bora Park was the highlight for us — tropical vibes in the heart of Quebec! The slides, lazy river, and wave pool were so much fun, and everything was well maintained and safe. Dining at the on-site restaurants was another treat — great food variety, generous portions, and a cozy ambiance that made every meal enjoyable. Plus, having access to the spa and all the inclusives really made it feel like a complete luxury experience.
Aastha S — Google review
While it was quite busy for a late July week day, it enjoyed our time at this water park. We were happy with our decision to rent a cabana. We arrived after 11 (an hour after the park opens) and there wasn’t a chair left to put one’s stuff. The cabana comes with a fridge, safe, electrical and USB outlets, fan and waters. It was worth every penny. We were impressed with the design of the park, more specially the lazy river. The theme and ambiance were really nice (I won’t spoil it). While you do need to get off at the end (about 12-15 minutes), we managed to do it many times despite long lines, but they move fast. Generally, the park is smaller than, say a Six Flags water park, but it’s big enough for every age group to have fun. Finally, the wave pool almost never stops. After 15-20 minutes, the waves stop, but start again within 2-3 minutes tops! As expected, the concessions were a big meh. Not only were they not cheap but I waited nearly 30 minutes for 3 bowls and a wrap at one of the restaurants. I think they were training kids…. As we walked around we noticed all the locals bring large coolers with all their food…. Despite this little hiccup, I would definitely return to this park.

Wonderful outdoor waterpark for families, beautiful lobby, my 5 yo had a blast! We went Saturday and Sunday and even though it was packed there were space for everyone and we didn't wait much to do the rides. We will definitely be back! Thanks! I only wish the food areas had a better manager, and a nice breakfast included option with the hotel stay, In the waterpark the servers (teenagers) didn't wear gloves to serve the hotdogs, prepare the burgers etc. We also tried to have breakfast in "Le Capitaine " and we paid 60$ for 2 adults and we didnt even eat it because the food buffet was covered in flies! The servers didnt bother to clean, it was very dirty 🤢, food was terrible we could not eat it and that kind of ruined our nice experience in the hotel. (Only for this reason I'll remove 1 star). Everything else was awesome

This place is amazing for families. I usually buy a Calypso water park pass for the season, you can enter here for free if you have the Calypso pass, so my family and I visited for 2 days. Lots of options for family and friends. Hotel and camping on site.

Nestled in the enchanting Village Vacances Valcartier, Hôtel de Glace is a seasonal marvel that transforms into a breathtaking winter wonderland each year from early January to late March. This unique hotel, the first of its kind in North America, is crafted entirely from ice and snow, showcasing stunning art galleries filled with intricate ice sculptures. Guests can indulge in luxurious amenities such as hot tubs and an ice bar where drinks are served in glasses made of ice.
Honestly such a unique experience! We did the day pass visit and were blown away by the sculpting technique and the skill. This felt like pure magic. The detail that went into every part of this ice hotel, chapel, bar, restaurant, slide, and exhibit was phenomenal. I cannot recommend stopping here any more highly! It wasn’t too crowded and had so many activities. There’s a winter playground tubing park, indoor water park, and then this ice hotel exhibit. Outdoor fire pits, etc. Staff were friendly, helpful, and very proud to assist in the upkeep of this facility. Wild that you can stay here overnight if you wanted! 10/10 this was so much fun for my entire group. It’s certainly family friendly and accessible for wheelchairs (even though there is snow everywhere, they have a wheelchair on skis!). Take the time to visit this exhibit if here from January-March!

I was looking at booking a stay here or at the least, visiting. After looking at the responses by management to those who've complained, I won't bother. It seems people with concerns are dismissed and invalidated and yet asked to "give us another try" - without an offer of a discount or any form of meaningful apology. Whoever responds to these reviews need to put a little more heart and thought into their responses. A potential customer lost.
Nicole — Google review
The Ice Hotel and ice sculptures are impressive —but I found it quite overpriced. My husband and I were also disappointed to learn that guests can only access their rooms late in the evening (around 8 or 9 PM) and must check out by 9 AM the next morning. For the cost, that felt like very little time to truly enjoy the experience. What really put us off, though, was discovering that the sleeping bags are reused. Mine had a strong scent of men’s cologne, which was unpleasant since neither of us wears any fragrance. Considering that nothing else is included in the price—just about 12 hours in what seem to be unwashed sleeping bags—it didn’t feel worth the money.
Megan C — Google review
We went with the kids and they enjoyed the visit. It took about 1:30 hours. Better to plan with 1-2 other activities available in the area/park, which we did not do unfortunately. Bit expensive. Have full winter clothes if you visit. As expected it was so cold. We enjoyed having some juice in an ice glass and hot chocolate. Also alcoholic cocktails are available.
Prasanna H — Google review
We did the hotel tour. Fantastic ice sculptures. Great concept. Really fun ice bar with drinks. We explored the rooms but didn’t find it as spectacular as rest of the ice hotel. Definitely should visit, the sculptors and builders have added so much detail on every side of the building, it’s mesmerizing!
Chareet S — Google review
Our family spent the day viewing the hotel and the sculptures. This was a bucket list stop for me. My children enjoyed the slide and the various sculptures, each room was unique and we all voted on our favorite. This is def worth the drive to see the amazing art that the sculptures have created.
Mathieu P — Google review
Visiting the Hôtel de Glace in Québec City was an unforgettable experience! The craftsmanship and artistry behind each ice sculpture were breathtaking, creating a magical atmosphere throughout the hotel, chapel, bar, and slide. Every detail, from the carved walls to the illuminated ice decor, was stunning. It wasn’t overcrowded, so we could fully enjoy exploring. The nearby winter playground, tubing park, and indoor water park made it perfect for families. Outdoor fire pits added a cozy touch, and the staff were warm, helpful, and clearly dedicated to maintaining this unique space. Staying overnight is an option too—definitely a must-see from January to March!
Pradip G — Google review
Another one off our bucket list! The iced hotel was a lot bigger than we thought, hard to imagine that they recreated this (rooms, chapel, restaurant, ice sculptures, etc) every year and the amount of details in each room is incredible. We stayed a night at suite 21, it was pricey but you get a hotel room (check in at 4pm, but we were able to check in by 2:30pm), an iced room (available at 9pm), a drink in a glass that is made out of ice, tour of the ice hotel during the day, 3 hot tubes and a sauna for the iced hotel guests to shared from 9pm onward, skating rink was closed when we arrived, so we didn't get to check that out. We arrived early n did snow tubing too, it was a lot of fun! The sleeping bag provided were very warm, I was cold during the tour so I'm very surprised that I slept through the entire night with base layer, a hat n thermal socks. This was unlike anything that we have ever experienced before, definitely recommend!

I had a really good experience staying here with my family. Yurts 🛖 we’re very cozy and relaxing. Special kudos goes to Silvie, who went out of her way to make my experience amazing!

Centre Castor is a wonderful place to visit. The trails are beautiful, and the yurts are spacious, clean, and comfortable. While you do need to walk a bit to reach the bathrooms and showers, it’s really not a big inconvenience. One thing to keep in mind is that the site is close to a military base, so you might occasionally hear training exercises. Overall, it’s a great place for a relaxing getaway in nature.

I tried the mountain biking yesterday. Simply put, what an outstanding network. To whoever initiated the development of such an awesome trail network and made it free to use for military members, thank you. I can see this as a massive boost to morale. I’m sure most wont appreciate that this is world-class biking that many people would drive hours to get to, and on a military base of all places. I obviously will be back.

Had the most exhilarating time rafting with NWE! Went with a group of 5, from which 3 couldn’t swim. Our instructor Oliver made sure to adapt to my friends needs, all along making them feel comfortable with the water. Although they were afraid of the water; they sure as hell love being in the water now, thanks to Oliver! The views were breathing taking, very scenic, fresh water falls. One of the best rafting experiences I’ve ever had! The rain made the experience even more wilder, with adrenaline rushing towards us! Hands down the best rafting place in Quebec! Thanks Oliver for everything!

My Wife and I were vacationing in Quebec and made the short drive up to go white water rafting. This place is awesome! English is our only language, the guides and staff were fantastic. The Guides are very knowledgeable about each section of the river and we had a great time getting to know ours between river sections. JB was our guide and he was great, A+. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a thrill. Ask for JB to be your guide, he is awesome!

It's not just about eating; it's about discovering new favorites and connecting with fellow food lovers along the way.
We ate there 3 times, 2 time at breakfast and one dinner. The first breakfast was a buffet, decent food, nothing spectacular, but no bacon left. The second one was so-so, almost no meat, the toast was gone. The breakfast a la carte was a disaster, the toast was burnt so hard that it was black, not even brown, but black, and they had no shame no bring it to the table. The french fries were over cooked and you can tell the oil hasn't been changed lately. I bought a full rib that was supposed to be 4.5 pound but it was slightly over 2 pounds. But since is almost no option around, they simply don't care.
Victor K — Google review
Tried to find vegan food in Village Vacartier after spending time on the slopes. Found only one place with a single dish. Even that was not up to the mark and the rice was full of vinegar and sour. Sent the dish twice and finally just ate it as no option for my 5 year old grand daughter. The fries and onion rings were also fried in the same oil which they used for frying chicken and fish. They had spaghetti but that was also with meatballs. It’s not Difficult to Cater to people dietary preferences and wished they could make food which is allergy free. Looks nice and kids friendly with the jungle theme but not for Vegan Vegetarian people. Would not go back.
Gunjan A — Google review
Very bad service, overcooked seafood and the poke bowl was soaking in water. The rice was not cooked properly and the cake was frozen. Needless to say it was horrible and very expensive. Would not recommend.
Ann-Sophie L — Google review
The staff is super nice. The restaurant needs to be gutted and rebuilt. The food made me wonder if anyone knows how to cook. Ordered nachos which to me was made by someone who never seen them before. So wet with sauce it looked like a stew, barely any chips. The mixture was tasty but hardly any resemblance of veggies or cilantro. I really felt like offering to teach them how to make them.
Ricardo M — Google review
5 flies flying around our dinner table and fish and chips came from the freezer. General Tao dish was decent. Max & cheese for kids - very questionable. Smelt damp and old in the restaurant. Service was good and staff friendly.
Iain B — Google review
The food here was awful and it's expensive. The atmosphere is horrible and there were so many flies that we didn't even want to stay but unfortunately your options here are limited. I recommend driving back to Quebec for a meal. Took a nice picture of our friendly flies. Stay away!

Waitress was rude when my wife said English menus please. After we got our food she never came around to see how we were enjoying the food or even refill the cup of water. This was literally the worst service I have ever gotten at a restaurant.
James G — Google review
Visited last week and decided to have breakfast there to not lose time before sliding all day but the food was really terrible. like I´m taking the time to review because it was so bad and expensive. More than $20 for a buffet that had hard pancakes, overly ripe fruit, and cold eggs without salt, it was truly un-edible! It´s not that it would cost more to make things taste good, just put a cook with experience in the kitchen! If I could put zero stars I would. There are great places just off the valcartier property. Don´t eat there even to save time. They obviously don´t care about the quality of the food, as I see the past reviews and they haven´t changed. The only good thing was the lady that serves coffee was nice.
Laila B — Google review
For what’s good this restaurant has a really good environment. Very clean even when serving food. The waitress was really kind and friendly but what I didn’t enjoy was the food from the kitchen. I usually check the reviews before going to any restaurant but I had so much fun doing the slides I thought the restaurant would be as good but it was terrible. They gave us our appetizer burnt. I also ordered the Alfredo pasta which is one of their more expensive items in the menu and it was a really small quantity with absolutely no taste. For the price I paid I didn’t receive the food that i expected! One thing I learned from this experience is to never come back !
Thushanth S — Google review
I would recommend to never, ever eat here. The chicken Alfredo gave both me and my boyfriend the worst food poisoning we have ever experienced. It was cold and tasted wet and frozen.

This place was the only bad experience I had my entire trip in Canada. I popped in to have a drink and a quick bite to eat and grabbed a seat at the bar. The girl bartender didn't acknowledge us at all. She passed out menus to the group sitting right next to me and never said hello or offered us menus and came off as rude. The guy bartender comes out and notices we are sitting there and haven't received menus yet, he grabs two and starts to head towards us and the girl bartender made a comment to him and he walked away with the menus. I had to say excuse me out loud and mention we were there to eat and have a drink. It took about 15mins to get a beer at 1pm in the afternoon and it wasn't busy. Customer service was absolutely awful. We asked the the dark haired girl for our bill 3x and she wouldn't give it to us and told us we had to wait for the guy to come over as we were seated right in front and all she had to do was push a button. Disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm and a poor time spent.
Greecian K — Google review
Whoever owns this restaurant, shame on you! There were multiple families there and you had only one girl working bar, restaurant AND kitchen. The waitress tonight was pleasant and kind however this restaurant doesn't deserve more stars. Either have more staff or close the restaurant due to no staff. I fear this poor girl is going to burn out. :(

Honest review: menus brought without a welcome. The waiter didn't care what the menu was, he didn't even know what pappardelle was and said it was farfalle. When it was time to pay the bill he barely even acknowledged us. Said "thanks. Bye." After crunching up the receipt. Oh and the food is very bland.
