The Cape Breton Miners Museum in Glace Bay offers an immersive experience for the whole family, with underground tours of a real coal mine and a visit to The Miners Village, featuring a company store and a home from the 1850-1900 period. Visitors can also enjoy a meal at the Miners Village Restaurant.
What a great little museum. This was part of our cruise excursion and thought it was something different so we pick this. So glad we did. The former miners that work at the museum have/give quite the insight to what it was like to work in the mines and the conditions they had to endure. There is a regular museum portion that has items used in and related to mines and miners. Then there is an underground mine portion (wasn't really ever a mine) to stimulate the conditions inside the mines. You have to wear a hard hat as it gets pretty short and narrow in some areas. Learned a lot in our short time there, definitely worth a stop

This is a gem of a tourist location. Our tour guide, I believe his name was Leo, was wonderful. He is a retired miner and his tour of the mine was just so captivating. Don’t just visit this site, be sure to take advantage of the mine tour to try and even get an inkling of what mineworkers went through for their country. These people who risked their lives to mine coal are to be revered and honored for their sacrifice. The tour included stories from an actual miner, a short but interesting video about mining, then an actual tour of a mine. I would suggest it for all ages. Helmets provided.

As a daughter of an Albertan Coal Miner, I wanted to see & experience what is was to be below ground. Impressive. Highly recommend to anyone. I’m more grateful now, than ever before, after an experiencing the conditions that my dad persevered to put food on our 1970’s dining table. The guides tell personal sorties that truly put you in their shoes. Our guide had 28 years below the earth. Wow! Highly recommend.
Tara B — Google review
Fascinating place and well worth the time. Terry was our host and he was a wealth of knowledge about mining operations, the mining lifestyle, the struggle to unionize, the struggles to survive. It's easy to see why the bonds between miners are so strong, since they literally have each other's back multiple times a day. A full museum visit includes exhibits, a virtual tour into a mine, actually descending into a mine shaft with your guide, and memorials, some outdoors, to miners who have lost their lives on the job. There is also an adjacent restaurant that gets good reviews for its homestyle cooking. We enjoyed our visit very much. And learned a lot doing it!
Scott H — Google review
We did a sunday morning tour with Leo, he did a fantastic job of explaining the history sharing stories and making uou feel comfortable while in the mine. I highly recommend this tour it was an amazing experience. Thanks so much Leo and the awesome crew at the museum, I will definitely be coming back with the kiddos. 👍 I would recommend calling in advance to find out approximate tour times, although the staff is very accommodating. The tours take about an hr an a half. They also have a cute gift shop and coal that you can buy as souvenirs.
Sonya S — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Tour underground was awesome. To see the coal on the wall was really neat as your walking in the actual mine. Not recommended if you have a sore neck as you have to slow walk/crouch. Our your guide, Terry had the most amazing stories made us all laugh and really enjoy the walk.
Maureen O — Google review
Great visit. Very friendly staff. I recommend doing the underground tour! Our guide Sheldon was fantastic!!! I give him 5 stars! He was super entertaining, very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. Sheldon made the whole experience feel very personal and real. It was a great experience! Our overnight stay was great. Very easy, quiet and hassle free! Thank you!

If you are in the area the Cape Breton Miners Museum is a must see. The museum itself is absolutely incredible, but if you want the full experience a 100% recommend the virtual tour. I'm short so the low ceilings weren't really a problem ( but taller people watch your head) helmets are also provided for everyone. The guides are knowledgeable and the stories they share touched my heart.

A group of seven individuals, including four children and their grandmother, visited the Old Town Hall & Glace Bay Heritage Museum Society after a conversation with a local near the wharf. The museum boasts fascinating exhibits showcasing the local area and is accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. The hospitality shown was exceptional, with lemonade and oak cakes being served in the old Court room while entertaining stories were shared about historically significant locals. The museum itself is impressive, featuring numerous beautiful displays within a stunning house.
They opened just for us because we came on a cruise excursion on a Sunday in winter (early April). It was interesting to go through the rooms and see all the thousands of displayed objects, and hear about how life was for the miners so many years ago. We could ask questions of the local guides in the room too. Very well done!

A big thank you to Wayne, Elke, Ray and Lois for today. We were visiting Sydney on a cruise stop and considering my late grandfather was born in Glace Bay I got in touch with this wonderful organisation who opened up on their normal day off (and holiday) to share with us the museum, some history and an amazing dose of Canadian hospitality. Thank you ever so much for today, you have no idea how much it meant to us to have been able to visit. If you are ever in Scotland please do not hesitate to email me and my dad and I will be sure to show you the same hospitality you showed us today. Emma and Alan

Formerly the Town Hall, this is now a heritage museum about the town of Glacé Bay. The docent are very friendly and knowledgeable. They served tea and biscuits (crackers and oat cakes - I think that's what they were called). There is an exhibit upstairs about Guglielmo Marconi (the person we can thank for all our wireless devices).
Shula R — Google review
I'm not a museum person so I can't really speak to the museum. I was here with a tour group and they provided us with hot tea, fresh lemonade, and oat cakes. The employees/volunteers were enthusiastic about their project and their town and the oat cakes and tea were delicious. When I travel I really enjoy conversing with locals who have a real love for where they live.

Does not open every day except summer. Make sure you checked the hour before going. It was not open when we arrived. The building looks nice from the outside, but didn't get the chance to see what's in the museum.

During the funeral at St. Anne's Catholic Church, construction work unexpectedly began on the roof, causing disruptions throughout the ceremony. The noise from the construction often overshadowed the speaker's voice, which was quite unfortunate. It would have been better if they had halted the construction during this solemn event. The staff at St. Anne's were helpful in providing information about the original Church, which held sentimental value to someone whose great grandparents were married there.
Loved it,staff was very helpful with imfo about the original Church.Church was very special to my wife,as great grandparents was married in the original Church.

Was attending my grandfather's funeral and midway through the funeral construction begin on the roof which continued through the remainder of the ceremony. It was quite disruptive and often was louder than the person speaking. It's a shame that they could not have stopped the construction for the funeral.

The Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay is a magnificent hidden gem, perfect for various artistic events. The building itself is impressive, with remarkable acoustics and no bad seats. The beautifully adorned walls and ceilings create a breathtaking ambiance. Friendly volunteers guide the audience to their seats, and the balcony offers an excellent view of the stage and lower sections. The Legends of Grand ole Opry performance was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing Cape Breton's immense talent.
Attending Jersey Boys at Savoy Theatre was an absolute delight from start to finish. The energy, talent, and passion displayed by the cast were simply outstanding. The storyline was engaging, taking the audience on a journey through the captivating history of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. The Savoy theatre itself provided a comfortable and intimate setting, allowing for an immersive experience. I highly recommend catching this phenomenal show while it's playing at Savoy Theatre.

Great time performing at the Savoy! Wonderful staff and crew. Treated us very well. Audience was a fun singing bunch. Great place to go!

Absolutely GORGEOUS theater. I have visited many theaters and this one was breathtaking. We went for opening night of Come From Away. Both me and my husband had never even heard much about the show and we were thoroughly entertained. It was spectacular. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they had a bar to purchase alcohol and other beverages, however when we tried to enter the actual theater we were told no drinks allowed. Seems very odd to sell drinks without mentioning to anyone that you cannot enjoy them during the actual show.
Corry C — Google review
There are beautiful theatres and then there are beautiful theatres that are run by people who know the business of entertainment. This is one of the best run theatres I have visited. Every detail to give people a tremendous experience has been considered. The Classic Seger band thanks everyone for a memorable night.

Thank you Barry MacKinnon for creating this event here at the Savoy.

Nestled in the heart of downtown, Renwick Brook Park is a delightful oasis for nature lovers and families alike. TALO Cafebar is a trendy and spacious spot with up-to-date and funky decor. The staff is incredibly friendly, making the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The food is described as amazing, with creative culinary talents showcased in dishes like lobster mac and cheese and mussels. While the bar selection could be improved, the cafe offers good entertainment. It's a great place to enjoy a buffet brunch or simply stop by for coffee, chat with cheery staff, and sample their eclectic menu offerings.
If there was a 6 star they would get that too!! The staff was incredible, kind and friendly. Decor, very up to date and funky, yet welcoming and spacious! The food.. Was omg-amazing!! Last week, we celebrated a birthday with a group of girls. Five of us became sick after eating there! We all ate different things. When we called to tell the owner, his response, after he chuckled, was to say" Well, you all seemed like you were having a good time". Not good business! So disappointing as I've eaten there several times before.

Colette's Family Restaurant Ltd is a charming gem that offers amazing food with delightful flavors and beautiful presentation. Their all-day breakfast is cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. The staff, including Bertha, Darlene, and Jayden, are friendly and always wear smiles that add joy to the dining experience. The restaurant has a cute vibe and the people there are absolutely amazing. Customers highly recommend trying out their potato skins, deluxe burgers, and deep-fried ice cream with caramel sauce.
Mom wanted to go here for Mother's Day. We were seated relatively fast. Food did take a while but they warned us of that. We've been here before and service is usually much faster. The food is always delicious. Great portion sizes and even better prices. $100 (including tip) is rare to find nowadays for a family of 4 adults. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area. NOTE: they're known for their breakfast.

Love Collettes. It's famous in town for a reason. Probably the friendliest staff you will ever see in a restaurant. We had a large group and they were amazing at getting everything ready for us. Amazing people there and the food was incredible. French fries were perfect and their lobster roll is the best I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Best breakfast food we've had in a long time! I ordered the everything omlette and my husband ordered the super breakfast. The food came out fresh and straight off the grill. I love my food hot and this was HOT. There were 2 servers that worked seamlessly together. My cup of tea never ran dry. The place looks somewhat recently renovated and still has a small town charm. I highly recommend if youre visiting Cape breton! (Or of you live here)

Jay's Chicken and Ribs is a beloved dining spot in Glace Bay, known for its delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has recently undergone interior enhancements, but the quality of their mouthwatering chicken and French fries remains unchanged. Visitors praise the traditional Cape Breton hospitality of the staff and the exceptionally clean environment. Many patrons have taken to social media to express their admiration for Jay's, with some even suggesting that it deserves its own reality TV show.

I drove over to Jay's from lingan..ordered 2 snacks and chicken Caesar salad. While waiting, they came out to say they had no cheese for it..then came out had no croutons...I drove home opened dish to discover no chicken with the Caesar salad. I called..clerk apologized ..said they would send my order over right away. 5 minutes later clerk called said her supervisor won't let her send my order over because cost is 25 dollars, but would put order on file there for me for future. I explained not my fault, I paid for my meal and would like it for my supper tonight. Told her this is not how you treat customers and how to do business. Very disappointing and I refused the order!

I ordered a club house. There was no tomato and was missing the bacon. My fries were not properly cooked. I took my order back where I was staying which was 25 minutes away. No way I was going to drive back to return my food and complain. I sucked it up and ate it. I work very hard for my money and when I put trust in ordering at any restaurant I expect to get what I order. My friend said call and at least complain. I complained and the lady I talked to was rude and said bring the order back and they will replace it. I explained I was in Reserve and it wasn’t that easy to jump in the car run back to Glacé bay. Then she said then what are you calling here for and complaining to me over the phone if your not willing to bring the order back? I then got defensive and said listen here lady drop the attitude and do what your paid to do. She then said excuse me I am the owner. I then said … with a attitude like that you won’t be in business very long. Then she hung up on me. Go figure.

The Marconi National Historic Site in Canada is situated on the former Marconi Wireless Telegraph Station, where the first transatlantic wireless signal was sent in 1902. The site offers exhibits detailing the history of wireless communication and the station's role in advancing modern communication technology. Visitors can join guided tours to view original equipment used by Guglielmo Marconi and his team. Additionally, there are models of the original station and remnants of its foundation for exploration.
If you in to or have any interest in any type of transmission, this is a place you must visit. Birth place of modern radio transmission.

This is a really neat historical location. The displays were overall well done and easy to read. The location itself is a bit small and some displays need maintenance but it was j retesting non the less. The staff were helpful with regards to questions about the local area. The outside of the building has some good scenary and is worth a quick walk! Parking is sufficient for the traffic flow to the area.
Christopher C — Google review
Better than I expected, from previous parks Canada controlled sites experiences. The site itself geographically is like something out of a novel. You want to build a large stone home right there, staring at the ocean. Inside is a fairly informative and robust display of Snr Marconi and his accomplishments. As well, there is plenty of coinciding information about related figures and there relation to Marconi if any. The staff here were very young here once again. Although, seemingly aware of where they worked, Marconi and telegraphic messaging. They were helpful and engaging. The older gentleman volunteering?? was very informative and kind as well. I am noticing a theme where it seems Parks Canada HR dept is employing an AGEIST approach to hiring.
Adam V — Google review
AMAZING! I was skeptical with the mixed reviews but I went in August 2025 and the small museum is well planned out and so informative and there were 2 staff there and I was immediately greeted. After learning everything in the museum I went outside and even though it’s just concrete remnants it was still cool to know that this is where this very historical event took place. Please don’t listen to the bad reviews and go here and learn all about Marconi and his invention that changed the world and besides it’s free.

Loved the place for it's historical value, well presented with lots of information on Marconi's work. There's an an amateur radio station on site operated on schedule. There's a small coloring table to keep smaller kids busy ;-) Owned by "Parks$Canada" could use a bit of work on the outside where the ruins of the original building are. The place could appeal mostly to one who has an interest in radio communication. 73

Coffee shop
Tim Hortons is a renowned Canadian franchise known for its exclusive high-quality coffee, alongside a variety of light meals, baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches. However, during one particular incident, the establishment lacked eggs and sausage when a customer desired an 8pm sausage breakfast. As an alternative choice, they opted for roast beef and chicken dishes accompanied by chili on the side. Interestingly enough, their companion also ordered chili and expressed satisfaction with this selection.
Friendly staff, good and prompt service. But they need to fix their Air conditioning, its too hot to sit in there to enjoy our drink.

I recently visited here and placed an order for a pizza. Upon arriving, I had to wait a long time before anyone even acknowledged me, despite being the only customer in the shop at the time. After finally placing my order, I ended up waiting even longer, and when I asked about my pizza, I was told it had already been ready and set aside. I wasn’t informed that it was ready, which led to unnecessary waiting. I was disappointed with both the lack of initial attention and the communication around my order. I believe that better service and clearer communication would greatly improve the experience for your customers.

Please do make sure to ask for a spoon if you are ordering any wraps because the way they make it, its impossible to eat without it and some of them do have serious hearing issues, i dont know why they dont make the thing thats ordered

No air conditioning!! Shame on you Tim Hortons for all the money you’re making that your workers have to work in those conditions!

No sausage for sandwiches that were ordered online. Cappuccino is dirty water?
