Dominical is a laid-back Pacific coast town known for its consistent surf, wide dark-sand beach, and dramatic sunsets. It’s a convenient base for exploring nearby natural attractions like Marino Ballena National Park, Nauyaca Waterfalls, and the rainforests and mangroves that shelter toucans, monkeys, and other wildlife. Travelers will find a small but varied mix of beachfront bars, casual restaurants, and yoga or wellness retreats, all within a compact, walkable area.
With favorites like Dominical Surf Adventures, Dominical Beach, and Pineapple Tours Kayak & SUP, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Little India Dominical and El Pescado Loco so you can get the best taste of Dominical while you’re here. Waterfalls
The Nauyaca Waterfalls, located in a picturesque and rocky area, can be accessed by a steep trail or by taking a truck ride. The waterfall is a beautiful spot to swim and admire the natural scenery. Although it attracts many tourists, even during COVID-19, the hike is not difficult and can be completed with sneakers as it is only 4 km one way.
This was a really fun stop on our vacation. It is recommended to get your tickets ahead of time at the building before parking at the base area. There are bathrooms and adequate parking at the base camp area, and you have the option of taking a 4x4 up to the embarkation point to the waterfalls, both the upper and the lower. Alternately, you can hike your way up which I am told takes around 45 minutes. When we were there, they had just had an amazing thunderstorm the day and evening before, so the waterfall was very powerful and impressive. We then went down to the lower portion and got in the water for an hour and just enjoyed the sound of the water, the sights and sounds of the jungle, and had an amazing time with our group and others. Speaking of others, it was not overly crowded, everybody was super polite, people gave you adequate space as the rocks were somewhat slippery, and everyone found their own little branch, rock, or nook to place their backpack and clothes before they got into the water. There are also a variety of viewing platforms where you can take your photos. This is a highly recommended stop should you be in the area and is a wonderful part of Costa Rica you shouldn't miss.

Nice waterfall hike. I initially was going to park at the visitor center but I am so happy I paid the $5 to drive down and park at the bottom of the steep hill. It was still a great 4 mile hike in and out from the parking lot. Be careful swimming in the falls, the current is strong but it’s so refreshing. Bugs were pretty annoying but bug spray helped. Go right when they open as it gets busy with tours. Was able to shower off at parking lot which was nice. There are also bathrooms right at the waterfall. Got a little muddy at times so bring a change of shoes for when you’re done. I also changed into teva’s at the waterfall to wear into the water as the rocks are slippery.
Nicole P — Google review
Worth the visit and staying for a little while. There are few options to get to the waterfall. Get a ride (around $35 per person, at the time of writing); horseback (not sure about the price); or walking (option one is to walk from the very entrance, or the second option is to drive to the parking lot at the base and walk from there - parking is paid). Plan on 45 to 60 min for a leisurely walk from the base parking lot. The nature is spectacular and the waterfalls are beautiful. Swimming can be done at the lower waterfall. Also, there is plenty of wildlife to be seen.
Dejan B — Google review
Gorgeous waterfall hike! Admission is cash only (colones or US dollars accepted); we paid $10 USD each plus $5 for parking. We parked at the guarded main lot and hiked in on foot, which ended up being around 4.5 miles round trip. For an extra fee, you can take a trolley or go by horseback, but we did not use these options since we wanted to get there right as it opened at 7:00am. We are visiting in August during the “green season” so expect muddy trail conditions on your way in with a few steeper parts on the dirt road. I’d recommend sticking to the sides of the road while hiking in since they are more compacted and easier to navigate. Bathrooms and potable water are available right before you get to the falls. Be aware that the stairs down to the falls are slippery so tread with caution! The water was beautiful and refreshing after a humid hike in, definitely dip your feet in or go swimming while you’re there. We read elsewhere that jumping into the pool is only allowed with a guide present which is available between 9:30-11:30am which we did not get to try since we arrived earlier than that.
Lauren T — Google review
Well worth the travel. The trail was wide and very easy for even moderately experienced hikers. The water fall was absolutely amazing and we had a really enjoyable swim. Highly recommend using a swimsuit and water shoes for both the hike and swim.
Sergil R — Google review
First of all: There are TWO possible ways to get to the Waterfall, both owned by private Companies. When you drive there, you will see different company advertisements, so make sure *not* to follow the signs, you might end up at the wrong company. So think about it first, which Company you wanna pick and use waze or maps to get to the right company. They differ largely in price. This is the cheaper company with a longer hike (right side). The upper pool is a beautiful view, but was closed from the right side because the waterfall is stronger on this side. See my pictures. I recommend bathing at the bottom anyway, even if its more crowded. The bottom is shared by both companies, the top is split by each company (right and left side).
Chr I — Google review
Beautiful waterfalls but omg what a hike! It was a hot day and the 2 miles felt like 20. It was well worth the hike but just be aware that the shuttle service might be a better option for those who have health issues. Also the “hike” is literally a mud road so it’s not particularly pretty/stunning. The way back down was much easier though.
A — Google review
Nice hike with a great reward at the end. We park at the main entrance because we wanted to do the 11km hike but I would recommend parking at the real parking and not at the main entrance like we did. The added 2km of hike weren’t worth it as it was an amazingly steep road (not trail) to reach the entrance of the trail.

We absolutely loved this place. All of the animals are rescues. Amazing snakes, lizards and turtles. Really sad to see that some of them are critically endangered. The guy that owned the place is really lovely and really passionate about the animals in his care and also about educating people. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours!
Emma C — Google review
Great place in Costa Rica to see a wide range of native reptiles and some non-native cool species. Owner seems to love what be does and was incredibly gracious during the low season of August. Gave us a personal tour while park was nearly empty. The park also seems to clearly prioritize the well-being of its reptiles and takes great care to make sure they thrive. The owner is passionate about his work and a deep expert and has been a part of Costa Rican wildlife work for many years. Also, very reasonably priced! Definitely recommend.
Michael S — Google review
The owner, Loyal was super friendly and informative. I enjoyed hearing about “the virgin alligator” Cochita. The reptiles seem well taken care of and their habitats are clean. Come on a Saturday if you want to see feeding time. Prices are very reasonable compared to most other activities around. Most enclosures have a roof in case the rain comes so it’s still walkable. We will be back.
Heather P — Google review
Parque Reptilandia in Costa Rica offers a unique and fascinating experience for reptile enthusiasts. We were fortunate to meet Loyal, an American who has made Costa Rica his home and recently revitalized the park. Loyal’s passion and deep knowledge about each reptile were evident as he gave us a brief but insightful guided introduction before we explored the grounds on our own. The facility is thoughtfully designed with the reptiles’ enrichment in mind, creating a healthy and engaging environment for the animals. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly Coquita, the famous Virgin Mary crocodile, a truly remarkable and rare attraction. Parque Reptilandia is a must-visit for anyone interested in reptiles and conservation.

The grounds are amazingly kept the animals in prestine condition you can tell they are well fed and happy 🥰 the pictures dont do justice! In person is 100 x better!! The owner has his heart in his place and especialy the animals <3

Friendly introduction to the space and direction for a self guided tour. Clean and appeared to be well cared for. An extensive variety of snakes, lizards and turtles. Easy to navigate paths and lots of informative signage.
Lisa C — Google review
My boyfriend and I had such an amazing experience here! Loyal took the time to share his story, talk about Reptilandia, and tell us about all the incredible species in the park. It was such a breath of fresh air away from the usual tourist traps. The atmosphere felt so quaint, genuine, and intimate. I’d definitely recommend this place, especially if you’re a reptile lover. Thank you for the lovely day, Loyal! We’d love to come back.

All animals were out and happy to see us. Well taken care of in beautiful enclosures. Vipers!! Great to see native and non-native reptiles, gorgeous facility and passionate staff. Great for photography and education.

Spa
If you're looking to pamper yourself during your travels, Alegria Soul Spa is a must-visit destination. Nestled conveniently near local eateries, this spa offers an array of treatments that cater to relaxation and rejuvenation. With massages starting at just $40 and body wraps from $50, it’s an affordable indulgence for anyone seeking some self-care. Many visitors rave about the skilled therapists who provide exceptional services tailored to individual needs.
My experience at Alegría Soul Spa was fantastic! The bamboo massage was incredibly effective in relieving my back pain, and I left feeling deeply relaxed. The receptionist was so welcoming and friendly, her smile and positivity immediately put me at ease and made me feel relaxed even before the massage started. Highly recommend! I will definitely visit alegría soul spa again 🤩

My mother and I got the 90min full body experience and it was beyond worth every cent. The products are sensitive skin friendly and feel so good on the skin. If you are near here, I highly recommend going for the full body experience, as it is very relaxing and the massage therapists are fantastic.

July 17, 2025 I have been getting massages since my early 20s due to a deformed spine. I have had massages all over the world and have to say that Priscilla was the best I have ever had. Not only was she able to locate the specific problem areas but did so using a firmness yet relaxing pressure until the discomfort subsided. I left feeling relaxed and renewed. She truly has a gift. Our entire family got massages and not one person was disappointed. If you have been on an airplane and traveling, I highly recommend you make a stop at the Spa.
Barbara A — Google review
We have been here a few times and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED their services! The massage therapists are very professional and always listen to your specific needs. It’s easy to schedule online, or through WhatsApp. Communication during business hours is fast and usually very accommodating! Thank you for taking such good care of my husband and I!
Barbi J — Google review
I have such mixed feelings about our experience at this spa. My partner and I went here for massages on our second to last day in Costa Rica. I had the Bamboo massage which was amazing. My therapist really got in there and when I asked for firm pressure, she gave it to me! It was literally 85 minutes of heaven and just what I needed after several days of hiking. My partner, his experience was not as stellar. After we walked out, he mentioned that his therapist was TEXTING during the foot part of his massage. She would utilize one hand to give him a lackluster massage and he could hear her clicking with one hand on her phone. I was absolutely aghast and told him that we should have gone back to speak to the front desk but he did not want to address it or make a scene. He literally talked me out of going back. If I was the owner I would want to know that this took place. Phones should not be allowed in a place where people are undressed, period.
Rebecca R — Google review
FYI: I gave 4 stars because of their price has 13% tax for extra charge which is not listed or been told. It’s a hidden fee. And I paid cash,,, shouldn’t be charged tax,, other businesses in uvita or Dominical are only charge you local tax when you pay by credit card. Be careful about this trick. I love the massage, she seems skilled and knew what she’s doing. Tried bliss facial as well. Not recommended, very old school style. No equipments involved. I booked bamboo massage on the coming Sunday , I’m going to try again. The front desk is helpful and friendly, the spa is smell good.

Amazing experience with Estrella. I had very tight thighs from walking up and down mountains and she worked out all the links, her touch was perfect, she was very professional and excellent at her job. This is our third year coming back to this spa. It is incredibly reasonable, we can always get an appointment and the location is convenient. I’m here for a month and I usually get 2-3 massages per week. Love this place and cannot endorse it enough.
Bimba G — Google review
Stumbled upon this spa after grabbing lunch at Cafe Mono Congo. They didn't have availability for me to walk in that day but encouraged me to book online. I booked for the upcoming Saturday & booking online was super easy. I booked a 1.5 hour therapeutic massage. The massage was very relaxing inside a very calming space. Alegria had the best prices I've seen compared to massage services in Manuel Antonio. Highly recommend!

Asian fusion restaurant
Thai restaurant
Located in Dominical, Costa Rica, Phat Noodle has been serving affordable and high-quality Thai food since 2016. The cozy open rancho seating area provides a relaxed atmosphere where guests can watch their meals being prepared in the trendy food truck kitchen. The menu offers a variety of healthy dishes with many vegan options available. This restaurant is an ideal spot for dinner after a day of adventure, offering Thai-inspired dishes that can be customized to suit different spice preferences.
TASTY! It was a rainy evening and we stopped by for a comfy dinner despite the rain. Our server was attentive, friendly, and helpful, food was flavorful and good portions! Free WiFi available. Food came by fast, max 5-10 minutes wait time, but we were the only ones there too so it might be different once it is busy. It is an outdoor establishment with a food truck style, but they had fans and good lighting. Prices were not too expensive but not too cheap either. Free street parking available (out of sight), no established parking lot, so don’t leave valuables in your car!
Daney — Google review
Tired of rice and beans and looking to switch it up? Look no further, this place also has all kinds of noodle dishes. We went for Chili Garlic and Pad Thai. You can pick the spice level too so no worries about breathing fire 🔥. If you're vegetarian, you're in luck because almost everything is available with chickpeas or tofu. Also a quite extensive drinks menu. Good spot, can totally recommend!

This place is FANTASTIC! Coming from Toronto where we have Michelin star restaurants, and endless amounts of Asian Fusion restaurants. This food might be the best we have ever had. This place is unique, friendly and most of all FOOD IS 10/10. I would give them more stars if I could. This place is a MUST eat at when Visiting Dominical.
Laura B — Google review
Awesome place with amazing food that is a break from the norm. Lots of Asian fusion dishes on offer and all are delicious in their own way. We loved the green beans tempura as much as the green curry and raw papaya salad. Great selection of drinks to go with the food. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Sins W — Google review
Healthy food with a great atmosphere. Staff were friendly and interacted with our children. There is a children’s play area to pass the time while food cooks.
Fletcher J — Google review
The entire dining experience was superb. From our greeter at the entrance, to the energy of the establishment, to the quality of the food and beverages. I would highly recommend everything I had (the spicy pineapple margarita, the house margarita, the massaman curry with chicken, as well as the chicken pad Thai — which I got to go to eat in bed in my Airbnb with my girlfriend while watching Ozark in bed 😌). But what was most memorable was the incredible staff! The servers and bartenders were extraordinary. Very attentive, professional, and they checked in with us with great cadence. 5/5. 10/10. Would highly recommend!
Emmanuel H — Google review
Very nice Asian resto! Curries were just awesome. Pad Thai is a must. Try some handcrafted beers. Music and ambiance is top! Service couldn’t be better. Will definitely come back.
Federico R — Google review
Happened to walk past this place after a yoga session in town. The vibes were awesome, and they were playing great music. This truck on the side where the cooks are is a super cool idea. The green curry was really watery and just like a soup, so we scooped each bite from the bowl. Great flavor, but I needed more rice to scoop up all the liquid. Pad Thai was awesome and also full of flavor. 3-star spiciness was not bad at all, and I think we could have handled 4 pretty easily. Overall, it was a wonderful thai food spot, but you do pay a pretty penny for it. Dishes were an average of 7000 colones and not the largest portions.

Rocas de Amancio, fishing tours

4.7

Rocas de Amancio is a small rock formation located between Dominicalito and Dominical Beach. It offers stunning sunset views and a unique setting with a hill that visitors can climb, although caution is advised. The beach itself is not suitable for swimming due to rocks and currents. This picturesque spot is popular for watching sunsets, but it's recommended to bring insect repellent.
Nice sunsets, if you are not surrounded by plenty of locals with booze and loud music. Great for watching storms as well, but make sure you have a repellent. And, only go down here from the highway with a 4x4. Getting back from the steep road is otherwise close to impossible. Two serious warnings: 1/ if you are tempted to go onto the island made of rocks to watch the sunset from there, make ABSOLUTELY sure that you are there only during the low tide and that the water is not rising, otherwise you might be locked out to come back, or a huge wave might splash you down. 2/ If you are tempted to walk onto the rock formation on the right, DO NOT do it unless you want to be smashed by waves against the rocks. Both happenes to a lot of insane tourists here!

Little India Dominical is a remarkable Indian restaurant with an exceptional chef, Jitendra, who hails from India and has worked in Dubai. The cuisine served here is authentic and prepared to perfection. The server provided excellent customer service and created a pleasant dining atmosphere with soft music adding to the ambiance. The experience of dining at Little India Dominical is truly worth it, as the food is delicious and accompanied by three delectable sauces including mint and chutney.
I would give this restaurant 6 stars if I could. The food was absolutely amazing and the overall hospitality was simply superb! This place isn't to be missed while visiting Domi. The food can also be ordered throught Rapido (the local version of Uber Eats ;-)). The staff is incredibly friendly and nice as well!

The food was absolutely divine! There is one cook and he whipped up the dishes in no time. If you’re craving Indian food in Dominical you must go here! I would say that they need more vegan options specifically options without paneer, maybe use some lentils or chick peas.

BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER. Don’t hesitate. Just go. You’re welcome. We got the Aloo Tikki Chaat (insane), butter chicken and malai kofta and a rice dish and it was all so good that we had to leave a review (which we neverrrr do). Enjoy :)

I've tired many indian restaurants in Costa Rica and this was by far the best flavors and very reasonable prices I've come across here. The owners are a super friendly couple and they have a great place for a date or family dinner. We are definitely coming back here next time we are in Dominical.

Food is extremely delicious. I just about licked the plate and bowl it was served in. My 6th night here and I’ve been there 3 times. Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Vindaloo. And owned by such a sweet young couple. Please support their business

My family and I had the most delicious food of our entire trip at Little India. Indeed, it was so good we returned for a second meal! We loved watching our chicken tikka, paneer curries, rice and bread being prepared - seeing the skill involved and the pride with which it was all undertaken. The chef explained that he had been a chef in Dubai before coming to Costa Rica. We are now back in London and often think about how lucky the Dominicalitos are having such incredible food on their doorstep. Thank you for making us feel so welcome, we hope to see you again soon.

Nestled south of Dominical, Porque No is a must-visit dining spot located within the Costa Paraiso hotel. This charming restaurant offers breathtaking views of waves crashing against rugged rocks, making it an ideal setting for a romantic meal or a relaxing evening. Guests can indulge in an array of delectable dishes, including coal-oven pizza, fresh salads, and the renowned pulled pork sandwich that has become a local favorite.
First of all the location is just amazing and so peaceful! I had the red snapper sandwich and it was very yummy and my husband enjoyed his burger! Highly recommend stopping in and having at least lunch here.

Wonderfully romantic restaurant with free water's equivalent of fireworks! The meal and views are absolutely stunning! Other reviews mention about high prices but that is only if you have a family of 12. This property has a very steep driveway. The only complaint is the significantly limited seating and parking. Tis also very difficult to maneuver your vehicle; a little-tiny car or motorcycle is suggested. Also, be careful leaving especially if you need to turn left otherwise Por Que No will be the last meal you will ever have. Credit cards Are accepted.

Fabulous food, great service and very relaxing atmosphere. It is safer to make a reservation as they have limited space. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. The best time is late afternoon starting with a nice cocktail and enjoying a perfect sunset. Attached a few options from the menu.

Superb! It's hard to impress the little lady since she has a gift for cooking! But she loved the fish tacos and I gobbled down a fried chicken sandwich with a moat of french fries. To top it off... The view was breath taking! It's hard to beat 40 foot waves. PS. The green pineapple smoothie, and Limonata.... Both a solid choice! Provecho

The best food we had in Costa Rica... Wow is all we can say. This is a must especially for couples. The views, staff, hospitality, food, all amazing! Ask for Andres as your server if he was there, he is so welcoming, kind, and witty. We loved hanging out with him here and at other local spots. Got the avacado shirmp salad and short ribs, you wont be disappointed!

I highly recommend going here if you’re in the area. I came here after hiking Nauyaca Falls and I almost missed it because the driveway is a bit steep but it is there. The food was amazing! I think it’s the best meal I’ve had in my 8 days in Costa Rica. I had the coconut ceviche and the pumpkin salad. I had the Sauvignon Blanc to go with it. Also - the view was spectacular and the place was pristine.

The place was closed and seemed to have been closed for a few weeks, which was a bit disappointing. It was highly recommended for lunch by our Airbnb hosts. Also, the rocky beach a short walk from the restaurant had some amazing picture opportunities.

The Crocodile Grill & Bar offers a delightful breakfast buffet each morning, featuring a variety of breakfast options and fresh fruits that vary daily. The restaurant boasts an exceptional team of employees, including attentive bartenders and servers who strive to fulfill any request. One can explore a diverse selection of local meats, fish, and vegetables on the menu. With its lovely and spacious outdoor dining area, this onsite establishment at Hotel Villas Rio Mar provides an excellent culinary experience for those visiting Dominical, Costa Rica.
We arrived just as the kitchen was about to close, but they were very kind in serving us. We ordered hamburgers, and they were delicious. The atmosphere is very nice, especially with a pool displaying vibrant colors. Highly recommended. The street to get there is a bit rough, but that’s a separate issue unrelated to the restaurant.

Update: no action besides meaningless lip service was provided by management which is the worst. I would have left them the original 3 star if management hadn't said anything but after over 2 weeks it's obvious lip service. They did not honour the coupon for 15% off but that's life. They did have good food and the kids pizza seemed legit and we saw lots of tucans in the trees above the pool. When we arrived at 11am there weren't many people but when we left around 4pm it was pretty packed.

This was truly the best meal of our entire vacation across Costa Rica. The staff were unbelievably kind and the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the tuna tartar, ceviche, the shrimp skewers, and calamari to start. It was all perfect & mouth watering! For entrees we got their amazing burgers; they were huge, flavorful, and left us stuffed (even though we weren’t gonna leave without trying their desserts). This is one of those restaurants that’s worth going out to your way for. We will be back. Thank you for a great meal. PS. They have a great cocktail happy hour

The cafe's breakfast options include hearty Tico plates and coconut French toast. Guests can enjoy the casual vibe while sipping on coffee, tea, smoothies, or fresh cold-pressed juices.
Love this place! I ordered the mushroom omelette with goat cheese and it was delicious! It was cooked perfectly! That ambiance of the vegetation, the breeze of the ocean, and the artwork was a plus! If you’re visiting Dominical, Costa Rica, stop by!

This is my absolute favorite spot in Dominical!! I love the breakfast panini and wish I had the recipe. I am going to try and recreate this at home and dream of my days on the patio overlooking the river. The staff is super friendly and I enjoy going to the deli next door too!

Cute restaurant in Dominical with a nice outdoor sitting area facing a river. Great service and friendly staff. We ordered veggie burritos with rice, beans, veggies and avocado that came with sweet potato soup. They were delicious. Love this place!

Mono congo Great place to grab breakfast in Dominical. There was a huge line up and wait time was approximately 20 minutes. We grabbed a traditional tico breakfast, breakfast quesadilla, pineapple banana smoothie, and a chocolate berry muffin. The traditional breakfast was good , especially with the fresh pico de gallo and avocado mixed with the chipotle sauce. I could have done without the chicken sausage. It was tough and overcooked. Not worth the extra cost. The breakfast quesadilla was delicious. There’s nothing more I could have asked for. The smoothie wasn’t as thick as I like. Too much liquid was added which made it watery. The muffin was great. Not too sweet.

A great spot to grab breakfast as it's one of few places to open as early as 8 am. The meals were delicious and had a diverse selection of food. The prices are fair and reflect the quality of food. The portions are big enough to be satisfied. There are many options for gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian. The atmosphere of the cafe gave surfer vibes and a beautiful view of the river. Great place to eat in Dominical.

GREAT BREAKFAST option! Went right as they opened and there was already a line. Wait time around 15 minutes. Staff were nice and friendly, spoke English. Food was great and filling! Noticed that the menu in-person does have some differences from the online ones, but overall good variety. We saw some iguanas while we were enjoying our breakfast and it was quite entertaining! Free water available. Good family-friendly environment. Highly recommend the burritos!!

Mama Toucan's Natural Market is a vegetarian restaurant that offers a variety of organic and healthy dishes, including salads, smoothies, and sandwiches. The food is known for being fresh and flavorful at reasonable prices. Customers have praised the banana peanut protein smoothie and the availability of tofu, which is not commonly found in the area. However, some visitors have expressed disappointment with certain menu items such as the Boston Garden sandwich and banana pineapple cake.
Fantastic selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, all kinds of nuts and grains too! Lots of fresh baked goods, tofu and vegan pizzas as well. They even have frozen fish, shrimp and turkey meat. Plus a great selection of home-made heat and eat lasagna, pot pies and soups!

Fell in love with this store on our family visit. The coffee was excellent and the kids lived the all natural slushies. We tried a bunch of food from the deli and it was all so delicious. We stocked up the fridge at our airbnb with amazing produce, wine and more. A must see spot when in Costa Rica.
Christine R — Google review
I really love their banana peanut protein smoothie and as a vegan it’s great to be able to buy tofu (the canned one is best) and other things not commonly found in CR. It is very expensive, one chocolate bar was 5500 colones (nearly $10) which is insane. I did not like their banana pineapple cake, it was uncooked and awful. The Boston Garden sandwich was really nice. Very pleasant staff. I’d say the downfall is the stuff you can also find at the local supermarket- they elevate the prices at Mama Toucans- only shop there for what’s not available elsewhere.
Charlotte M — Google review
No doubt, they offer everything western tourists and expats wish for, but at insane prices, making it totally impossible for locals to run their errands there. I get that import taxes apply to lots of their goods, but they seem to add a 30% surplus on top of the import taxes. Eg the oat milk is 30% pricier than at BM which is 500 meters away. And we as expats who really care for the local culture and humans don't recommend to buy anything at Mama Toucan's. We have to support the locally made goods, even if it means that we won't get everything that we desire.
Shogunski — Google review
Best place in the south pacific to find natural stuff. We tried the food at the Deli and it was very tasty, especially the pizza and burritos. Next time we go to Costa Rica we will definitely go again.

So many great vegan options if you want to cook at home or to take some snacks on the road. Also a great coffee and chocolate selection for souvenirs and gifts. The vegan baked goods were decent but not the best. The biggest downfall here is the prices as it is very expensive
Katelynn S — Google review
Pricy, but worth the money! Variety of organic, also vegan etc food and fresh made dishes at the bar too. Fell in love with the fresh chocolate chip cookies and pies, addictive! (Vegan) coconut milk ice cream is good too! If you have a thing for nice supermarkets, that’s your spot ;)
Adima Z — Google review
Sometimes I buy baked goods here. A few days ago I had the Empanada Caprese. It was all dried up and hard. Obviously it had been lying there for too long and shouldn't have been sold any longer. Disappointing given the price. The banana bread and muffin on the other hand were soft and tasty.

Laura and Rockstar Yoga are both an absolute gem in Dominical. She’s an amazing yoga instructor and what she has built in the local area is so needed. She’s developed a community that feels like home. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. No matter what level yoga you are at, you’ll feel right at home. The shop is amazing too!! Shopping there is addictive. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through - a class at Rockstar is exactly what you needed, that you didn’t know you needed. I always walk away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

My first but definitely not my last yoga experience! Rory was amazing! Very warm and inviting. I live in Uvita now by way Dallas Texas. This will be a nice addition to life in Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Monya D — Google review
I was lucky enough to find this gem of a place on my first visit to Dominical in 2022. Nestled in amongst the trees in the heart of this quaint town is a yoga studio like no other that I've ever been to - a place where ALL are welcome! A place where you are free to be yourself - laugh, cry, dance, sing, and sweat it out on the mat with like minded, kind souls. So when Laura said that there was another yoga teacher training happening in November 2023, I jumped at the opportunity, and boy am I glad that I did! There are no words to describe quite how transformative the experience was - it far exceeded any of my expectations and I cannot recommend it enough! The teachers are all so kind, knowledgeable and diverse. The content of the program was so comprehensive and beautifully laid out and delivered - Laura and her team poured their heart's and soul's into every minute that we spent together on and off the mat and I felt incredibly supported and held throughout the 4 week intensive program. We were given plenty of practice teaching opportunities and got to experience things like sound healing, cacao ceremonies, meditative beach and river walks, waterfalls, breakout dance parties, and so much more!!!! It was truly an experience of a lifetime and if you've ever been curious about teaching yoga, or just deepening your practice - I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!!!! It really did change my life - my only complaint is that it eventually came to an end... I will always look back on my YTT with Rockstar as one of the most special, life changing experiences of my life 💫🫶

Rory’s restorative class was absolutely amazing. It was healing on so many levels—both physically and spiritually. The experience felt like a combination of a massage and a counseling session, leaving me deeply relaxed and centered. Rory’s guidance created a safe and nurturing space that allowed me to release tension, quiet my mind, and truly restore my body. I left feeling lighter, calmer, and profoundly renewed. I can’t recommend this class highly enough for Seeking true restoration.
Megan S — Google review
I went to different yoga classes at different locations in Dominical and this was by far my favourite one. Laura was just so nice. I felt very welcome from the first minute on. Also the students were so nice, so that within in minutes I felt like I was part of a community. Laura asked for our names and recalled them throughout the class which really gave me a feeling of belonging to the rockstar yoga tribe, even though it was my first and only class there. The flow was fantastic and we’ll sequenced. Felt very relaxed and strengthened afterwards, which is exactly what I love. Loved the music, the way Laura teaches and that the class included everything I expect from a great yoga class: pranayama, meditation, chanting, hands-on, attention to detail in alignment and transitions. If I ever come back to dominical, this will be my go to yoga studio for sure. And even if not I will definitely join their online classes at some point. They also do teacher trainings..

*5/5 Stars* Just had an incredible dining experience! The tuna ceviche was TO DIE FOR - fresh, zesty, and expertly prepared. The healthy burgers were also a highlight, packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. But what truly made our meal stand out was the incredible service. Our server was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The team's enthusiasm and warmth made us feel right at home. If you're looking for fresh, delicious food and top-notch service, look no further! We'll definitely be back.

Amazing! Local pasture raised beef, pork and chicken. Locally sourced vegetables. Creative and delicious dishes being prepared in the kitchen by people who clearly have talent, and served by a fun and energetic staff that are passionate about, and proud of the food they present. Everything from the bread to the sauces was homemade from high quality, organic ingredients. No seed oils, no fillers, no nonsense. I upgraded my side to one of the salads- the kimchi vinaigrette was delicious. I stole a lot of fries from my friends to dip into the homemade ketchup. I was steered here by some friends in Oregon when they heard I was heading this way. I’m so glad they heard I was going to visit Costa Rica!

Fuego Brewing Company is a brewery with beautiful views and great ambience. The food and beer are both great, but service can be slow. There's also a coffee/gift shop attached to the restaurant which is a nice touch. Dogs are allowed here which is another plus!
Fuego is not cheap or a “budget” restaurant, however, it was delicious! We got fish tacos, the catch of the day, and a few beers. The beers were fine, just note that “craft beer” is CR is not the same as craft beer in America. Both the fish and tacos were delicious and a welcome change of pace from eating at mostly sodas prior. The ambiance was really cool, we sat upstairs, which was giving treehouse. The restaurant was very busy for dinner service but we still got our food and drinks in a reasonable amount of time. Recommend for a nice night out or you’re looking for something more unique than a soda or cafe.

The guacamole was super fresh and delicious, the Papas Bravas had tasty chipotle and Dijon alioli dipping sauces and our beer flight was (from lighter to stronger) Wina Guanabana Ale, Dragon fruit Lager, Kuka Mango Pale Ale and West Coast IPA

Went here for a delicious breakfast!! absolutely loved my steak and eggs, the chimichurri made it even more perfect. My wife also LOVED her Breakfast Burrito. I tried the Mango IPA and the Guanabana and loved both, they were tasty, slightly fruity and very refreshing. Very cool spot/atmosphere.

I took my girlfriend and her parents out to Fuego brewery and had a great time. Moses the bartender (in the picture) was very friendly, had great service and the beers were delicious. The restaurant is kind of like a huge tree house, which gives you a perfect look into the trees. We saw parrots, iguanas and at least five other species of birds flying around. We had a great time. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our experience here. Ordered the fish and chips, pizzas, calamari, sliders, tacos, guacamole, and beers. Service was great. Restaurant and bathroom were clean and we even saw a sloth on one of the trees. Loved the guacamole and the fish and chips. Went really well with the Kuka Mango. Didn’t love the pizzas and the chicken tacos.

While visiting the area, our friend brought us here for dinner. They have an elevated bar / restaurant area with the design and feel of a treehouse. It's very open with lots of different seating. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but we were able to grab three seats at the bar. The drinks were strong and delicious, and my spicy margarita was perfect. My friends enjoyed their beers too. The chicken tacos were fantastic and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken they gave me in each. The service was equally amazing, with the staff being very friendly, attentive and professional throughout. Definitely will come back here on future visits to the area.

This is some of the best food I’ve had in my entire life. Everything is so fresh! You have to try the hummus supreme ! I ate here several times. I only wish I was staying longer so I could have more. The portion sizes are huge and prices are amazing. I love that the restaurant is run by a family and felt welcomed every time we dined here. I’ve been dreaming I could have more of their pita and hummus since I’ve returned home

This was our best meal in Puntarenas. We stopped after a morning spent at Nauyaca water fall. This is a family run Vegan restaurant. None of us are vegetarian or vegan and we absolutely loved all of our items. Labaneh with zaatar, hummus plate, schnitzel sandwich, and the Lori burger. The pita is baked daily on site and is so soft and delicious. The smashed french fries were a great side to our sandwiches. And the owner included a complimentary falafel side. The atmosphere is chill and all of the family that run the cafe were friendly.

Adorable family-owned Israeli restaurant. Probably the best food I had on my entire trip. The Lebanese cheese is a must. The owner makes everything by hand, including the tofu. Shachar was a great host.

Wow! Convinced my dad to come try (he usually prefers meat) and he was surprised! Chai smoothie is best smoothie ever. Must try. Great food, great service.

This was our first meal in CR. We initially were hesitant because we wanted to eat ‘traditional’ CR food. But the food was really delicious, especially after a full day in the rain in Manuel Antonio!

My spouse and I spent ten delightful days at Rio Lindo. We were enchanted by its tropical beauty, a true paradise indeed! Returning from the beach, we relished the afternoon pool sessions. The hotel's immaculate grounds showcased an array of stunning flora including vibrant orchids. We made it a daily ritual to take a dip in the pool followed by leisurely drinks on our private terrace, truly rejuvenating!
I've stayed in the hotel before, it's well located and gas a nice pool, but more often I've visited the bar & restaurant for live music! They have a weekend Funk Night on Fridays which we enjoy. Great vibes & perhaps the only place nearby I've had a truly thin & crispy crust pizza.

Fantastic Stay at Rio Lindo – Amazing Food, Staff, and Atmosphere! I had an incredible stay at Rio Lindo in Costa Rica! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is absolutely fantastic—the food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, every meal was a delight. The staff here are exceptional, always attentive and making sure everything is perfect. The bar is a great place to unwind, thanks to the amazing bartenders and staff who know how to make a great drink and keep the good vibes going. The housekeeping team does an outstanding job—my room was always spotless, and the entire hotel felt well-maintained. One of my favorite parts of the stay was the pool area—so clean and inviting, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the tropical surroundings. And the music they play every day? Absolutely on point! It adds such a fun and lively energy to the place, making it a fantastic spot to chill, eat, and have a great time. I highly recommend Rio Lindo for anyone looking for a great stay in Costa Rica. Whether you're here for the food, the drinks, or just the laid-back atmosphere, this place has it all! Would definitely return! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great hotel. The staff were really friendly and the rooms were nice. Wonderful atmosphere with the bar attached to the hotel and live music most nights (although the music stops at 10pm latest so doesn't affect sleep). Location is also fantastic. Would highly recommend.

The owner is a good person, the pool is really good, the location is nice, theres a billiard table, almost every day there’s a little show of local artists. There’s a lot of people that come to eat, drink and watch the shows. Theres a piano and a drum set. but unfortunately the stuff was not so nice. The rooms is ok. No safe in the room, the a.c really loud, and the bed is noisy when you move. The owner said he work to get better so give it a chance but know the issues.

In one sentence: Home away from home. But we need more words to describe the place😁. Tony, Maggie, Ronald, Good times Charly (aka Santa Claus) and José are all exceptional people that make you feel welcome. If you have the chance, book the Mango room, although the other rooms are really nice too ( we stayed in three of them🤭). Don't want to forget to mention - not only the people are fantastic, also the food is great (Casado pollo, Pizza Supreme...)

AC did not work. Several staff members entered our room but we're unable to fix the problem. Even Ian tried but the drainage was frozen so water backed up and flooded the room. No apologies the next day. In fact there wasn't even reception staff until the afternoon. We were given several excuses and promised a 30 USD refund. I have not received said refund and even found a dead crab in the pool, which the kids loved, lol

Came down for a quick getaway from Guanacaste. This hotel is the perfect spot. Atmosphere is A+. Pool is great. 100% stay here. Steps from downtown with great foood option across the street. 5 min walk to beach. We stayed a beachfront hotel also on this trip and you can’t compare. This place saved the trip!

Plus: - very nice pool, kids loved it - cosy rooms - close to the beach, forrest and surrounded by restaurants Minus: - families to avoid weekends (Fridays/Saturdays can be super loud thanks to Rum bar next to Rio Lindo) - some of the staff were unpleasant - included breakfast is poor (paid breakfast is much better)

Sushi restaurant
Located in Dominical, with a view of the Baru estuary, Dominical Sushi offers a unique dining experience. The open-air Japanese restaurant features a modern and minimalist setting with dark bamboo furniture and Japanese lanterns. Guests can enjoy local seafood served in traditional rolls and sashimi with tropical twists, along with imported Sapporo beer, sake, or green tea.
The restaurant had an amazing atmosphere with the surrounding jungle and decorations of the little hut. It was a little hard to find but make sure not to miss this little find. The prices were very reasonable for sushi, and the quality was spot on. Overall, a great place.

Great sushi place! I was so glad to find a sushi place after eating too much rice and beans. The atmosphere and music is nice and so is the service. The miso soup was authentic with an interesting add of avocado, the green tea was nice as-well. I also liked the salted edamame with a hint of spice. We ordered the summer roll and tuna tower and the summer roll was FANTASTIC by far the best sushi I’ve ever had, the creaminess of the mayonnaise fit perfectly with the crunchiness of the tempura. The tuna tower was nice but not as incredible.

Had a great lunch while in Dominical at Dominical Sushi. We were seated immediately and service was very prompt. The piña coladas were great and the sushi came out quick and tasted great. We tried the California roll, spicy tuna roll, and rainbow roll, as well as some tuna sashimi and all was fresh and good! Definitely worth a stop for some good sushi!

Nestled on a hillside with stunning views of the Pacific, Bar Jolly Roger is a must-visit spot in the Dominical/Uvita area. This laid-back eatery specializes in mouthwatering buffalo wings that have garnered rave reviews from locals and travelers alike. With an array of flavors to choose from, including hot honey garlic and basil parmesan, each bite promises to be packed with flavor and perfectly crispy.
Photo is from after we already ate two HUGE wings. Portion sizes are awesome. The wings are some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. Come on Wednesday for a plate of wings that’s only about $10! You won’t regret it. One plate filled my boyfriend and I both up!
Mary W — Google review
The wings were great, flavorful and good quantity. Very crispy and lots of different options. The location and photos shown on Google were not reprentative from what we've seen. Maybe it's older reviews from another location. They do accept the card and it's not high up with the view you can see on some photos but a tiny restaurant on the side of the street. Staff was nice. They have different discounts on Mondays, tuedsays and Wednesdays.

Tried the hot honey garlic wings, they were really good, not too spicy just great. The place is really nice! If you drive slowly you can get all the way up there in any car. The view is amazing but take into account there’s no signal nor wifi.

Great Service. The wings are a must and the staff is friendly. Only thing is there is no signal there and they only accept either local SINPE transfers or cash. No credit/debit card accepted. Other than that, the views are stunning and you can get there by car. It does not have to be a 4x4 vehicle.

Wow, those are some chicken wings! Was recommended the hot honey garlic and they were amazing 😍. We also had the Basil Parmesan which were great. Good prices, good staff, good food. Highly recommend, though you'll need 4×4 to get there! Oh, and it's Cash Only or via PayPal.

Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 1.5km uphill to the east of Dominical and serves as a refuge for injured, orphaned or illegal pet animals. The sanctuary's aim is to rehabilitate and reintroduce animals that can be released back into the wild while caring for those that cannot.
Amazing place! The work they do with the animals is such a fantastic feel good story! Giving back to the area and caring for abandoned, abused or injured animals. Yan was a fantastic tour guide, sharing his wealth of knowledge, while keeping it entertaining and engaging for all guests!

This is a wonderful place to learn about the conservation efforts happening in Costa Rica. It’s a little bit of walking and you have to drive up a steep hill, but the views are gorgeous at the top. The animals are interesting. They have lots of rescues that are in the process of rehabilitation. And then they let you get closer (no touching) to the animals who were not able to go back into the wild because they’re not healthy or just like being around humans. The tour is about an hour. And you’ll see lots of species. I highly recommend supporting this positive organization that supports the local wildlife. This is great for kids and adults.

Super amazing animal sanctuary. Our tour guide was lovely and did a great tour. The enclosures are very clean and big for their permanent residents.

Visit and support the amazing efforts in conservation. Rigo is a hero continuously doing his best to save animals and improve this incredible rehab and sanctuary. Thankful to have met him and get insight on the life changing work the Alturas team does. Great tour for photography and education. Beautiful look out point and wildlife sightings nearby as well. Large planted enclosures with plenty of enrichment all animals are very happy and loved. Respect the wildlife and the mission. ♥️
Suse — Google review
This is an amazing place and important place to visit. They teach so much about the illegal pet trade (that is where some of their animals came from) and other manmade risks to wildlife. It is not for profit and has knowledgeable, friendly staff and volunteers who seem to love what they do. Highly recommend
Lisa C — Google review
Very nice place where you learn how Costa Rica are taking care of their nature. You also see all the "must see" costarican animals in the sanctuary and understand the dilemma between protect the nature and business challenge. Very interesting. Don't miss the lookout at the hotel where you will buy your ticket, it's better to book the tour one day before.
Benoit F — Google review
Surprising great time here. We were met by our guide at infusion restaurant and he walked us to the sanctuary several minutes away. He explained the general goals of the sanctuary and how they rescued and cared for the various residents. The tour consisted of visiting the different animals that were not able to be released to the wild. There were something like 15 different stops on the tour. The tour lasted about an hour and a half. Very informal and educational and fun.

Wow! This place was incredible!! We brought our two kids (3 and 5) here! Our tour guide Yahn was wonderful!! There isn’t a ton of walking so it was great for the kiddos and they absolutely loved seeing all of the animals!! We loved learning about them and everything they are doing to help!! Such a cool experience!!!

Great for the views but you can get more than bruised in these waters! Lots of rocks! Highly suggest for strolls and experienced surfers and ocean swimmers. As much as I love the vibe and natural beauty of this beach, the choppy water and rocks have left me scabbed up a few times. Still…it’s stunning and well worth the visit. Pick up a pipa frío and enjoy this breathtaking spot!

CAUTION: we got robbed. A local watched where we hid our car key. We have hid keys to surf for years and never had this issue. Here, they will follow you and wait till you think no one is looking. They used the key to steal money and credit cards while we surfed. Do better than us! Don’t get robbed! FUN FACT: it’s hard to get new cards overnighted to your hotel when the address reads “the place next to the town square by the beach”. THE GOOD: it’s a forgiving surf break that is fun for multiple levels. We loved it and surfed it multiple days.

Cool Vibes Beach Hostel is a trendy accommodation option located near the beach. It features simplistic dormitories and a basic hostel with an outdoor swimming pool and a common area with televisions. The hostel, which is highly regarded by all travelers, offers both shared rooms and private accommodations. In addition to the pool, there is also a communal kitchen and numerous areas where guests can relax or socialize. For those interested in surfing, the hostel provides surfboard rentals at reasonable rates.
We loved our stay here! Super close to the beach, very calm hostel, great shared kitchen, free coffee and tea! They were helpful with planning activities, trying to find the cheapest and easiest way for us! Would absolutely recommend to stay at Cool Vibes Beach Hostel! Their playlist was also really good :)

Best backpackers / surfers place in Dominical. > Friendly staff keeping the kitchen clean and tidy at all times (thanks for your efforts !) > Great location and chill atmosphere, there is a TV if you wanna watch movies in between 2 surf sessions and a huge supermarket 5 minutes walk away. > Boards for rent at a good price !! I highly recommend the place ; D PS : an extra brushing / cleaning in the dorms' toilets would be great 😃

We had a good time at Cool Vibes, staying a couple of night — good beds, pretty quiet at night. Shout out to Sri, one of the owners, who helped us figure out how to catch a bus to the Osa peninsula — not as easy as you might think. They also steered towards a mangrove tour with Pineapple Tours, which turned out well. All in all, highly recommended.

We stayed here for Valentines Day and overall things were pretty good. Kitchen was good, small pool was good, board rental was good. However, at 3 in the morning there was a lot of noise outside. I went to investigate and there was a creepy man upstairs. I asked him if he was a guest, but he just said "don't worry" and abruptly left. There was no security or front desk staff, so stay at your own risk I guess.
Kevin H — Google review
My rating is relative. If you are expecting the Hilton, this is not the place for you. But for what it purports to be (a cheap near-the-beach hostel) this is a 5-star place. I've only once stayed in a better hostel for less money Our room, while basic, is clean, freshly painted, has reasonably comfortable beds with decent linens, private bathroom and (for a few dollars extra) AC. There are cheaper dorm room beds but i am beyond dorms, at least when travelling as a couple. But they also have the management nailed down. Clear rules help things run smoothly There is a clean well equipped communal kitchen if you choose to cook . There are big fridges for your food and drink. There is a small (but really quite nice, and refreshingly cool) pool and a very pleasant indoor garden and sitting area. Clients are travellers and vagabonds of all ages, styles and nationalities. Extroverts are in their element here.
Peter S — Google review
It’s a surf hostel on the edge of a small town in Costa Rica, two minutes’ walk from a gorgeous beach. What’s not to like? The vibe is mellow and the location is outstanding. Guests were diverse and respectful. The owners made us feel very welcome. I found it worth paying a little extra for AC but then I’m an old guy, your preferences may vary.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our white water rafting experience on the Savagre River with our guide, Alan. He gave us great instructions as we traveled the river, and all the guides take safety seriously, while keeping it fun! The scenery was beautiful! The rapids were exciting with some time for swimming and admiring the surrounding jungle in between. We stopped at a beautiful waterfall and enjoyed fresh fruit and guacamole there, while squirrel monkeys played in the trees above us! Rony was also a lot of fun on the drive to and from the river, stopping to show us different native plants. Highly recommend!
Paul P — Google review
We did a rafting tour with Rony and Diego, an Marcos (El Captain) gave us a safe travel to and from! Rony is so knowledgeable about local horticulture and life it’s amazing. We made multiple stops along the way so he could point out unique plants and their attributes. As far as rafting, Diego and Rony were very good at explaining what we were going to experience and were professional while we were out in the water. They cooked us lunch halfway through and showed us to a waterfall and always took pictures for us to remember. On the way back, Rony even kept an eye out so we could see a sloth, and pulled the van over so we could get a closer look. Absolutely would recommend this group of guys to anyone!

Amazing experience. It wasn’t just rafting. Ronnie is an awesome guide with a wealth of Costa Rican plant knowledge, we stopped all along the way and he showed us awesome varieties. Bryan is a great chef who prepared us a terrific snack at the waterfall and Captain got us there and back safely. Would highly recommend especially in comparison to other companies. We saw many on river, that seemed rushed and hurried. But not this one, they helped us live the Pura Vida
Timothy P — Google review
We had an amazing time white water rafting, Henry was a terrific guide who took his time explaining water safety instructions - his knowledge of the local wildlife and vegetation took our experience to the next level. Luis, the guide who took us down the river was also experienced and knowledgeable - safety first is his motto! Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.
Beatriz M — Google review
This was our first time ever white water rafting and these guys did a GREAT job. They took us down the Chorro River (in early February) which has class 4 and 5 rapids which was very challenging and a little nerve raking for a beginner but also very fun. Our guide spoke English very well and provide very clear instructions. They gave us a break to swim, cliff jump into the river and have a snack on the river. Pictures and lunch were also provided at no additional cost. Plan on getting very wet and having a blast. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone.

Canoe & kayak tour agency
Pineapple Tours Kayak & SUP offers guided excursions from December to June, taking advantage of the dry season and adjusting schedules based on tides. The tours provide a leisurely and educational experience, with knowledgeable guides like Nego who are passionate about the mangrove ecosystem. Families can expect a slow-paced and informative adventure suitable for kids, where they can observe various bird species and wildlife while learning about the environment.
We had the mangrove kayak tour. We really enjoyed it. We were driving from Manuel Antonio so we met directly close to the launching point. There was 2 people : the guide and an assistant who stayed behind to watch the cars and prepared fresh fruits for us to have a snack at the end of the tour. The guide also took pictures during the tour that he sent us by email the next day. The mangrove is peaceful and beautiful, we saw several species of birds and we also paddled to the estuary to have a break on the beach. The paddling itself is very easy and relaxing. 100% recommended.

I cannot recommend this tour enough! Everyone was knowledgeable, professional, and obviously very much cared about our experience. Leading up to the tour, everything was very organized and clear, and Rachel told you everything you needed to know up front without any prompting. We felt very prepared! Our guide, Nego, was so impressive with his knowledge of the mangroves and managed the environment in a way to keep us all safe (keeping in mind tides, currents, etc). We have lived in the area for a little over a year and have been wanting to take this tour. Our son turned 8 this year and chose this activity in lieu of a birthday party and said it was the “best birthday ever!” We were fortunate to have my mom in town and also have some friends join us as well. Really great for our whole age range (7-75). Last, but not least, each kid got to plant a mangrove too! Overall, a wonderful experience!

GET YOUR TOURS HERE. Family run business and they still have the same tours guides as they did 3 years ago when i was here last. Prices are reasonable and they know their stuff. The guides are super friendly dudes who have the most amazing eye sight ever as they are able to pick out sloths hanging in trees 40’ up and stop for everyone to get out and see. They know all of the local animals and plant life and make sure they tell you about all of them. The guide takes pictures because in most cases you don’t want to bring your stuff with you. A+

Incredible, grounding, and special experience for everyone! Our group was of all ages, from 7-70, and we all had such a peaceful and grounding experience in the beautiful mangroves. Our guide (Nego) was gentle, knowledgeable, and personable, making it the perfect blend of adventure and learning. It was the second time touring for my 12 year old, and my 7 year old said it was, "the most beautiful place." Pretty big compliment coming from a little kid! If you love to learn about ecosystems and the incredible creatures that live in it, look no further. You'll see sloths, monkeys, all kinds of birds, racoons, and frogs. You will leave this experience at peace, and with a new view of the world. 5 stars isn't enough...highly recommend!!

My family did the Mangrove Tour on Kayak recently and had a great time. Our guides were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. They have single and double kayaks available so even small children can participate. I had never kayaked before and found it to be very safe and comfortable. I strongly recommend the Mangrove Tour just to get the experience of kayaking in this beautiful area. Seeing the wildlife was a huge bonus, but I would do it again even without it. Above all, they helped us find something that would work with our schedule. Call them or stop by to see what is possible.

Gonzalo Surf Lessons playa Dominical CR

Surf school
Gonzalo Surf Lessons in Playa Dominical, Costa Rica, is highly recommended for beginner surfers. Gonzalo's teaching style makes students feel comfortable and confident, and he takes the time to listen and explain effectively. With years of expertise, he is professional and punctual while ensuring that his students have a great time learning to surf. Many have praised him for helping them progress from whitewater beginners to riding green waves after just a few days of lessons.
Had quite a few surf teachers in my not too talented surf-career and I have to say that Gonza was for sure the best. He does not just teach, he makes you feel absolutely comfortable and confident. He does not just explain but actually listens. Me and my girl started as whitewater-beginners and succeeded green waves/line up after a few days. Stayed half a year in Costa Rica and kept in with him in Dominical after a short time of orientation. A cachete in flado, the Ticos would say. Highly recommended. Thank you so much, Gonza!

Gonzalo did a great job teaching me some intermediate surf tips. We surfed at Domicalito which had consistent waves that matched my skills. Highly recommend for anyone from beginner to more skilled surfers!
Ashley M — Google review
If you have beginner/intermediate level but are in good shape and ready to give it all to try to go out to catch waves, you won’t regret choosing Gonzalo for a surf lesson. He is very knowledgeable about surfing and takes the time necessary to make a complete and technical briefing + answer all questions. He is also very nice and attentive to each surf pupil and once out in the sea makes all possible effort to make everyone catch a wave. Thank you again Gonzalo for the great session, we had an amazing time! Keep it up you are awesome 🤙😎

Ive been surfing with Gonzalo for 6 years; every trip to Costa Rica. He is professional, punctual, and brings years of expertise that he enjoys sharing with you. Whether you are looking for vacation fun, or to improve your skills, Gonzalo is your man. What I thought was going to be a vacation fun moment, turned into something that I have fallen in love, all because of him. But most of all, he will make sure you have the time of your life doing it. ¡Pura Vida! 🤙🏽🏄🏽‍♂️

I had never surfed before and took 2 lessons with Gonzalo while I was in Dominical. He is very knowledgeable and a very good teacher!! Do not hesitate to book with him
Mel B — Google review
Gonza is one of the best surf instructors....and I've tried many around the world. He taught me in my very first lesson six years ago and ever since then, I've been coming back almost every year. After every trip I feel more confident and can see myself becoming stronger. He is very thoughtful in his lessons and really does a great job explaining everything which helps me build a very solid foundation for when I am surfing in a new location or at home. I am forever grateful to him for helping me really fall in love with surfing. Thank you for everything, Gonza -- and I can't wait to be back in Dominical again soon. Pura Vida!

This man is amazing. I have taken lessons from him for two winters and he has been a great mentor. His teaching style is amazing for me, he takes it very seriously and wants you too get better. I am looking forward too coming back and learning more from him in the future, he is a friend.

Dominical Beach

4.4

Beach
Dominical Beach is a laid-back coastal destination with a mix of sand and stones, offering opportunities for surfing, leisurely strolls, and breathtaking views. The beach is known for its consistent beauty, which can vary daily due to tides and rock formations. It's an ideal spot to catch mesmerizing sunsets and explore tide pools during low tide. Visitors can also find local vendors renting out chairs and surfboards nearby.
Came here twice. Incredible sunsets each time. One of the places on Earth that will stay in my memories
Val L — Google review
Easily accessible place for fly fishing where Rio Barú dumps into Pacific. Good wading, brackish water to east, surf to west. Also craft and kitsch for sale along beach, plenty of parking. Pretty clean for all the extensive public usage, but definitely lock your vehicle.
SouTex T — Google review
This beach is consistently stunning but I walk it every day and I love how much it can change on a daily basis. Between the tides in the rocks it’s always beautiful. The best place to watch the sunset!! If you wait for low tide, you can walk further down onto the beach and enjoy some tide pools . There are sometimes vendors on the beach to rent chairs from. I’m not a big surfer, but this is definitely a big surf beach. With lots of places to rent boards nearby.
Stephanie S — Google review
The beach was incredibly dirty. There was a lot of fire pits everywhere, so there were ashes. I would say it’s one of the worst beaches I’ve been to. The surrounding area is very cute. Very much of the hippie town. There is a cute market along the beach front.
Jennifer W — Google review
Dominical Beach is a beautiful spot especially during sunset. The trees around the beach make a wonderful contrast of colors while the sun is setting. The parking around the beach seemed to be free. The town is very cute but be careful with prices, they get pretty high for the quality of services.
Ariane L — Google review
Great place to catch some waves or walk one the beach or watch some surfers. The beach is very rocky
Tim B — Google review
What a gem! Free parking, restaurants across the street, and the beach is gorgeous! There were vendors, surfers, families, markets and everything we needed nearby. Many people who work in the shops also speak English which is a plus for travelers.
Carletta B — Google review
Such a beautiful beach, river running into the ocean large driftwood everywhere, one of my new favorite spots

Del Mar Taco Shop is a popular spot located on the main street in Dominical, offering a convenient dining option after a day at the beach. The food truck counter-style setup allows for easy ordering, and there are picnic-style tables for enjoying your meal. The menu features a variety of Mexican dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including tacos and burritos.
We have been coming here ever year and the food has been consistently delicious. Never disappointed after a beach day to stop here and have some freshly made tacos. Today I had the taquitos and flautas. The flavor in the beef and chicken goes above and beyond. Tuesday is taco Tuesday specials. I see they have a new menu and I wanted to share and update.
Drea M — Google review
Stop here for lunch right at 11am. Had carne asada tacos, very tasty. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos were delicious! The staff was welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend this place. Note: will be a lot cheaper on taco Tuesdays.
Jessica O — Google review
Great food and location! Short walk to the beach. We had a great time here and enjoyed the outside seating and talking with the staff. They gave us recommendations and were so kind! Tacos were tasty, fresh and beautifully plated!
Kristina — Google review
We had a very nice dinner at ‚Del Mar Taco Shop‘! The restaurant offers a wide variety of different freshly made foods - also many vegetarian and even vegan options are available! We have chosen the Chips and Guacamole as a starter and the super veggie Burrito and the veggie/vegan tacos as a main dish and were definitely not disappointed. Everything from the nacho chips, the hot sauce over to the tortillas are made by themselves - and you can taste it! The restaurant itself is an easy going location close to the beach. The service was super friendly, accommodating and we were warmly welcomed. Make sure to visit it when you are in the area for a tasty meal! In my opinion, one of the best burrito and taco I’ve ever had.

Perfect spot for an easy & delicious beach lunch! Their homemade tortillas & tortilla chips are delicious. Loved the shrimp tacos, carne asada tacos, and guacamole. Highly recommend
Rebecca R — Google review
Best taco shop. We arrived on Taco Tuesday so all tacos were half-price, as well as all Imperial beer. The staff is extremely friendly, loading us up with homemade corn chips and salsa while we waited. I ordered the shrimp tacos and was told that there was going to be an extra wait, because someone was just heading to the market to get them. They were extra fresh and they packed them in to each taco. They also ran out of Imperial beer so they offered premium beer for the same price. Everything was tasty. I highly recommend this excellent spot.

Our first taco experience in Dominical and it did not disappoint! Super fresh, full of flavor, and the perfect spot for dinner! We came on Taco Tuesday and got to try a few different flavours - all hitting the spot! We even went back for seconds in our 4 day stay. Food was on point and service was great too!

Good coffee. In-house roasted. American and Tico style food. Friendly staff. Scrambled eggs were made perfectly (not browned or overcooked). Bacon was very crispy and delicious! Stewart my waiter was professional and had a positive vibe. I’ll be back.

Everything I had here was incredible! Rosa, the owner, roasts the coffee herself and it is so delicious. Highly recommend the pineapple juice, chicken burger and tropical breakfast. My group ate here every day on our 7 day trip. Great food, amazing service and the kindest people.

If you're on the hunt for a slice of heaven, look no further than La Casita Pizza. Nestled in a charming house behind Tortilla Flats, this gem is run by an Argentine duo who truly know their pizza. With daily lunch specials that include a slice or two paired with a drink, it's perfect for those looking to grab a quick bite. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, complete with free WiFi for diners and speedy takeout options.
Not sure how this place has got any less than 5 star reviews! We absolutely loved it. fantastic pizza and empanada, with really friendly owner and beautiful resident dog. It was the best pizza we have had in a long time and certainly in Costa Rica. Thank you, we really enjoyed it!

YUMMY PIZZA at Pizza La Casita. We were able to get the pizza delivered due to the rain and pizza came quickly and was warm and crunchy. Delicious pizza and lots of flavors - family was very happy! Big thank you to Manual for being so kind and friendly and for helping us with our order. Great pizza, service and people! Highly recommend- A++

I can’t say enough about the quality and taste of this pizza. The ingredients were cut fresh for our pizza, you could hear it being prepared in the kitchen. For the taste, I would have to say most likely the best pizza I’ve eaten anywhere. My whole family gave it 5 stars plus. We wish our best to the Chef and hope to return on our next trip to Costa Rica. You owe it to yourself and family to stop and order a fresh pizza!!!

I am a pizza fan!! And I can tell this is a good pizza, fresh ingredients, good portions, also recommend the " empanadas argentinas". We had a very good time with the Che ( chefs 🧑‍🍳 ).
Carlos R — Google review
This place should be your go to in Dominical for some high quality pizza. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are and the owner is great vibes! Don’t miss out on the Hawaiian, I was never a pineapple on my pizza kind of person but this spot changed me!
Alexia G — Google review
ordered pizza take away because of power cut in the area. Pizzas was barely eatable, it was more of a pie than a pizza with thick base with a bad taste.
Andreas B — Google review
Overall, this place is almost excellent. The place: There are a few details I'd address if I owned the place though. Little things like more comfortable seating, level dining tables, and more easily readable menus. But those things are somewhat insignificant in comparison to the pizza. Somewhat. The food: The pizza is almost excellent. The toppings were great and flavorful, evenly distributed, almost all the way out to the crust, and seemed fresh. And there were a lot of options! But the crust was, again, almost excellent. It could have been a little more crisp and a lot more flavorful. Even just a little garlic powder and some salt would bring the crust alive. Overall: Eat here. You'll enjoy it. But be prepared to be left wanting just a little bit... better.

Service was a bit slow and too much healthy food on the menu for my liking. Portions were a good size and well presented but the overwhelming taste on my food pictured was vinegar which I didn't want and the menu didn't mention it. The other meals were good.

Unbelievable! We stopped here for lunch 3 times during our stay in Costa Rica because the food was just absolutely delicious! The Ceviche and Kunjani Chicken salad were our absolute favourites though, so fresh and full of flavour. 100% recommend to anyone looking for lunch near by or passing through. We also had a slice of their lemon pie and a bar of their chocolate for a sweet treat and again both were fantastic.

Great food and service. Super nice folks. They can get backed up when they are busy, so don’t come in a rush, but you shouldn’t be in a rush in Costa Rica anyway. The banana bowl here is a family favorite.

Without a doubt, the go to spot in Dominical for incredibly flavorful food and delicious drinks such as coffee, smoothies, and juices. This quickly became our group’s favorite place to stop in the morning before starting our day or for a midday lunch, they also have a great kids menu & cocktails for the adults. The staff was so friendly and attentive, and the square the shop sits in is such a treat to wander through. Will miss it dearly!!
